we need at least 2 out of 3…but a sweep would be sweet

  2. Patrick June 26th, 2009 at 10:33 am

Crap, Sunday night’s game is on ESPN. Jon Miller and Joe Morgan are awful announcers :(

  3. tonyb June 26th, 2009 at 10:36 am

Looking at those matchups, we have no excuse to not win the first two. We should pound pelfry and livan into a pulp which will take the pressure off of the Wanger for Sunday.

I have a feeling this is going to be Wang’s breakout start. 7 innings, 3 runs. I still believe in him.

  4. Hokiehill June 26th, 2009 at 10:38 am

lets hope CC’s arm issues are behind him, we get the good AJ and Wang continues on the road of improvement (with a little run support)

I’d also like to start another errorless streak…

  5. Russell NY June 26th, 2009 at 10:44 am

Lets just hope no one gets injured. As usual. Also, weird seeing that 0-6 next to Wang’s name.

  6. Guy Incognito June 26th, 2009 at 10:45 am

Time to pay Tim Redding back a little for his ill-fated emergency start for us in 2005. July 15th at Fenway Park, he went 1 inning, gave up 6 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks.

  7. Oh man June 26th, 2009 at 10:46 am

    Sweeeeeeepp

    Anything else would be uncivilized

  8. Boogie Down Bob June 26th, 2009 at 10:46 am

I wish there was a way to push Wang’s start back one more day so he could face an AL team.

It was frustrating to see him pitch pretty efficiently and have to come out against ATL because its the NL and they needed to pitch hit from him. I wanted to see him go 6-7 and throw 100 pitches to keep building strength.

I’m assuming though he probably made up for it with a side/bullpen session

Hope for the sweep, but as long as the Yankees take the series I’ll be happy.

  10. ArodMVP217 June 26th, 2009 at 10:47 am

    Total domination. Fohget abaaht it

  11. sab June 26th, 2009 at 10:48 am

any concerns with david robertson turning into the new veras/albaladejo/ramirez/tomko..well not tomko maybe since tomko is still the new tomko but the other 3?

  12. Boogie Down Bob June 26th, 2009 at 10:48 am

    Tony B,

I like the positivity re:Wang. I’m still a believer as well, and I think hes shown some pretty encouraging signs of life lately.

Now the next step is to go deeper into games and start winning a few ballgames.

  13. chris June 26th, 2009 at 10:50 am

There is no reason why the Yankees should not take the first two games. With our best two starters going up against guys that the newly rejuvenated Yankees offense should kill we should be looking at Wang to bring us the sweep. I think that Sunday will be our toughest game since Livan has been fairly consistent for the Mets. Two out of three at worst.

  14. sab June 26th, 2009 at 10:51 am

if cleveland was so relief pitching desperate that they actually paid $20,000+ for veras – you don’t think a robertson/2nd tier scrap arm from AAA will be enough for derosa?

  15. @HSILVERM11375 June 26th, 2009 at 10:54 am

Patrick- Couldn’t agree more. And Wang is on the mound so you know they are going to talk about his season for about 5 innings straight until I throw up in my mouth.

  16. Mo June 26th, 2009 at 10:55 am

Yup-Robertson’s sub 3 ERA is awful, as is the fact that he is striking out 1.5 batters an inning. He is a rookie, he is going to have some rough outings and make some mistakes, but he looks like he has the stuff to be a really good reliever.

  17. Frank from Chatham, NJ June 26th, 2009 at 10:55 am

Would anyone trade for the Braves’ Francoeur since Nady looks like a former Yank at this point?

  18. YankeeFan4Eva June 26th, 2009 at 10:56 am

I think we should go out and pickup DeRosa since Nady has another setback.

  19. Erica - newly OPPC June 26th, 2009 at 10:57 am

Its pathetic, but I am glad we are not facing Francisco Neive again. The guy has been on a serious roll.

ESPN gives us MUCH worst. So much so, that I don’t even complain about Miller and Morgan at all.

Not to mention that Brian McCann is a very good player.

When he gets you, there is nothing to be ashamed of.

Does anyone out there realize there is no basis of any truth to this Francoeur thing? Someone made a joke they traded Melky for him and all of a sudden Jeff Francoeur mania gripped the LoHud blog

    new post

If the Yankees take the series, one of my Mets fan friends has to buy me dinner.

    LETS GO YANKEES!

  25. Russell NY June 26th, 2009 at 11:03 am

All of the Mets’ “resiliance” is just flat out luck and the leagues unfamiliarity with the players. Nick Evans, Brian Schneider, Fernando Tatis, Daniel Murphy, Alex Cora, that Pudgy Guy behind the plate… are not good. No excuses, we should beat them.

  26. Russell NY June 26th, 2009 at 11:04 am

Erica – do you watch Seinfeld? Ever seen that episode where Jerry says Elaine’s friend found a dating loophole. He makes a bet that he knows he is going to lose and the stipulation is he gets to take her out for dinner. The catch is he doesn’t get rejected because it was part of a bet.

I think there is more to that bet than you realize.

Hahaha. It’s actually a female Met fan friend. She’s one of my old friends from high school. I know she loves me, but definitely not in that way :-)

  28. Bronx Jeers June 26th, 2009 at 11:09 am

On paper the Mets look like they’ll be hoping to take one but in reality the Mets have done an awesome job surviving their worst string of injuries in years.

The Phils have been terrible over the last 2 weeks so they’re lucky in that respect but the Mets have definitely held their own.

The Wang-Livan match-up looks interesting. Livan’s done himself good. You can’t hold those Hernandez boys down for long in this town.

On the other side Wang seems to be improving but has yet to put it all together. He is sort of pitching for his Yankee career at this point. He really needs to prove that he can be a part of this rotation.

I think next year is his last before free agency so it is hard to see the yanks parting ways with him but at this point he is pitching for a contract.

  29. Russell NY June 26th, 2009 at 11:10 am

Oh allright – just looking out for a fellow Yankee fan :)

Not that there is anything wrong with that!!!(continuing with the seinfeld quotes)…

Although for the record- if there is anyone else out there who would like to take me to dinner. I could be open to that.. LOL

“Someone made a joke they traded Melky for him and all of a sudden Jeff Francoeur mania gripped the LoHud blog”

Are people actually saying that would be a good trade for us? We should not give up anything more than a roll of quarters for a guy with a .641 OPS.

  33. Erica - newly OPPC June 26th, 2009 at 11:30 am

‘Are people actually saying that would be a good trade for us? We should not give up anything more than a roll of quarters for a guy with a .641 OPS.”

There are people on both sides of the fence. It just cracks me up cause its based on absolutely no truth

  34. Kid Yanks June 26th, 2009 at 11:50 am

Let’s all take off our Yankee Blue colored glasses and take a good look at these matchups:

C.C. will be out by the second inning with another biceps strain

Burnett has been no picnic all year long in the clutch

and Wang goes for his 7th straight loss

Mets sweep Yankees in my book!

    Sorry Yanker fans!

  35. David June 26th, 2009 at 12:36 pm

Why not give Aceves a chance to start? Although he has limited innings, his major league record is 6-1, with a 2.27 ERA.

  36. 86w183 June 26th, 2009 at 12:46 pm

Who needs an extra starter? I don’t get that.

The Francouer thing was fun the last two days. The guy is a very talented underachiever. Whoever gets him out of Atlanta is going to get a very nice player at low cost… he showed some of his ability at the plate the last two days.

That said is Robertson and Kontos can get DeRose I’m okay with it, but I would rather keep Robertson and see if there’s some other way to make it happen.

Pete — Can you find out just what the price tag on DeRosa might be?

  37. torrey June 26th, 2009 at 3:32 pm

I thought AJ’s suspension was reduced to 5 games. If so, when does it start?
