A-Rod is really cooking now

I crack myself up.

But this was for a good cause. Alex, Cody Ransom and Brian Cashman were chefs for a day at the El Nuevo Caridad Restaurant in Washington Heights this afternoon and gave some neighborhood kids a free lunch.

Maybe it’s me, but the Yankees seem to be doing a lot more community service-type projects than in previous seasons. Whoever is behind that idea deserves congratulations.

Nice photo by Cash.

  2. Noreaster

Pete, Thanks for the posts today…g’night…

  3. GMAN

I’m a traditionalist when it comes to the “Three Stooges”…Moe, Larry & Curly (no Shemp please)!

  4. andrew

i agree pete, with the players greeting people in the great hall, honoring high school and college teams on the field, and all these community projects. I know its all good PR and makes the yankees look good but its a good thing in general to know that the players arent just money grubbing guys who just play ball and then go home.

  5. Rich James

    look at Cash!! LOL

and did A-Rod try to get tan by getting in one of the ovens???

  6. Vader

Is it me or is Cash is a dead ringer for Gene Wilder?

  7. S.A.--The sun will come out tomorrow; I'm down with the OPPC

Great cause. Good job by the yankees.

I did giggle at the picture

  8. Yewnork

A-Rod is so big it looks like he could just put Cashman in his pocket.

Okay I am home- who missed me???? Some thoughts on the game tonight and my first new stadium experience

    1) I was sitting in 420B. I was freezing. It was a giant wind tunnel up there

    2) It was amazing that Johnny Damon (my pretend boyfriend) hit a homerun to acknowledge my presence there tonight

    3) Never get the carvel icecream in the Yankee helmet. It melted before I even got back to my seat and I was wearing a lot of it.

    4) Donnie, I told you to meet Griffey under the O’Neill banner. However, thank you. The phrase “Erica was right”, does not get used nearly enough in my world

    5) It did not rain. I take full responsibility for this because I brought my butterfly rain jacket with me just in case- thus, controlling the weather

    6) I looked at the O’Neill banner and smiled as I thought of all of you

    7) This was the shortest game I have ever attended. I am pretty sure it was because I do not have to be up early for work tomorrow. I am sure if I wasn’t on vacation it would be a 5 hour epic like I usually attend.

I know there is more, but I can’t think offhand

  10. Richie

    Ransom?

  11. timo

Horrible baserunning by Figgins getting thrown out trying to stretch a triple down 7-4 leading off the ninth.

  12. m

    YewNork,

Haha. A-rod has enough cash in his pocket.

  13. Condo

FYI…. Hughes warmed up in that Saturday Mets game too (people were killing Joe because they thought he was coming into a 5-0 game, but Robertson ended up coming in) and then Hughes pitched the next night.

So, that is another myth that is dispelled.

  14. G. Love

    Caridad is a great restaurant.

  15. Erica - newly OPPC

    Doreen,

I did have a great time. I was really impressed with the new stadium.

And the melted ice cream was still really good. I am a little horrified by how quickly I ate it while it was metling. But I had no choice, it was inhale the ice cream or wear more. Thankfully, I was able to clean myself off pretty well. And of course, I am a dork and I saved the little plastic helmit

  16. Gayle

That made me laugh so hard I cried. What the Yankees are doing is great and has always been one if my big complaints about the Yankees. In past seasons they seemed totally nit involved in the community and getting into the community. Whether they are doing more of it this year or just doing a better job of letting everyone else know doesn’t matter. The community is all the better for it.

  17. Betsy

    LOL Cash looks………dorky?

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/ne.....;type=lgns

Yanks won’t be getting their hands on El Duque anytime soon….

  18. trisha - OPPC lifetime member

Christina, if you are still here. The picture of Da Melk tipping his cap to us at the game!!!

    :)

    Donnie-

I actually laughed when Griffey hit that shot. It was like he just wanted to reinforce my hatred. LOL. I was also a little surprised by how many Yankee fans stood and applauded when he hit that shot. I still dislike him

And thank you again for the acknowledgement. :-)

  20. Fran (the original)

Erica, glad that you enjoyed the game. And the best part was that it actually did not rain!

  21. pat

How tall (short) is Cash? Everyone looks smaller next to Alex but Cash looks tiny next to Ransom.

Kay said over 1000 people showed up in the streets outside the restaurant. Yanks have always been good neighbors with their checkbook but it’s nice to them doing it with their time too.

  22. David (In Seattle) Official Unofficial NPC of the Yankees

A-rod’s a terrible cook, he choked on all his dough. Trade him now for some fresh canoli.

    :-)

  23. Erica - newly OPPC

    Thanks Fran!!!

I have no doubt that if I left my silly butterfly rain jacket home there would have been torrential downpours.

I actually got soaked at 11:30 while shopping. It was not good.

  24. Brandon...Joba = Rick "The Vild Thing" Vaughn according to some here LOL

He was in my old neighborhood and I missed it !! SONOFA !! :x

  25. RS

I can’t decide who looks funnier…Cashman or Arod. Ransom I could have mistaken for a real chef.

  26. timo

Angels tie it anyway. Walk walk 3 run dinger by Rivera.

    Channeling the Orioles.

  27. jennifer

Cash looks like a midget next to them.

  28. NYY626

Cash looks way funnier. Arod, I must admit, is looking good in this picture ( minus the hat). How tall is Cashman? 5′3?

  29. Stultus Magnus

That place is three blocks from my apartment. The mofongo is delicious!

  30. Zero

Hopefully ARod and Cashman were just going with Cody Ransom for support on a job interview. Keep Pena up, DFA Ransom, and bring Shelly Duncan up. It would accomplish the same and make the Hinske deal unnecessary.

  31. JD

    thats hilarious

  32. JD

“Hopefully ARod and Cashman were just going with Cody Ransom for support on a job interview. Keep Pena up, DFA Ransom, and bring Shelly Duncan up. It would accomplish the same and make the Hinske deal unnecessary.”

Thats funny about Ransom, & Pena needs more playing time. Going to AAA is whats best for him right now. He needs to play.

  33. Angel (OPPC) - A tale told by idiots - full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

LOL Erica! Nice recap. I think you covered all the important bases there. :D

  34. alejandro sierra

Wow which caridad was this at?

  35. jv

    Cash is a wee GM…

  36. YankeesLuv

    Cute picture! :)

  37. NYY4LIFE

I agree that the Yanks seem to be doing much more in the community. But it doesn’t stop there I also love the meet and greet before one game per home stand. Someone must have thought that with the new stadium it is time to shed the evil empire tag that some other teams (jealous) fans have placed on the Yankees.

  38. RIKERS

Lets not forget Ray Negron now

  39. Ruthie J

by all means, bronny cash looks ridiculous!!! lol.. but its for a good cause, so he gets a pass… he looks like a polygamist!!!… / I think charity events and giveing back is something positve for the yanks and should be continued…esspecialy in this economy!
