Re: Hughes warming up.

I actually think Hughes was going to close the game out, Mo had been used a little bit the last week and I think Joe was going to give him the day off, but Mo wanted to close it out imo so he sat hughes down.

I haven't been to the new stadium yet and should be going to the game on Friday. We always used to meet at The Bat. Has anything taken its place at the new stadium? I've seen a lot of people here referring to the "O'Neill banner" but is that already inside the stadium? What's the new place outside the stadium to meet a friend?

Vinny,

I'd come out of retirement to represent Chapman and Gourreal. That's 100 million bucks in major league ready talent from Cuba. A 21 year old lefty who throws 98 with a sick changeup and a 24 year old kid who can play anywhere on the field and hit like crazy.

That's a daily double worth doing! lol

Too bad Gourreal, for reasons known only to him, is such a true believer in the Castro regime and has rejected every person who has come forward (and there have been many) and offered to assist him with any defection plan.

No way to be certain of age and it would be pure insanity to give him a Daisuke type contract. Of course it would be pure insanity to give him an Igawa type deal too

For what it’s worth, Brackman’s catcher was ejected during the fourth inning when he issued six walks. Shame they pulled a guy in the fourth inning of a no hitter.. that has to be a first!

------------------------------------------------------------

Abeita getting thrown out of the game and Brackman's control issues had nothing to do with each other. Abeita hit a long fly down the line that cleared the fence and was called foul and Abeita thought it was a home run. He got tossed for arguing and bumping the umpire. That was in the bottom of the fiurth inning. Brackman walked 4 in the top of the fourth and was pulled.

86,

Yes, I would offer him "Igawa Money", and its going to take more than that, IMO, to sign him if the rumors are true that he has defected.

He is that good.

How do we know Hughes was fully heated up? Even if he was, that's life in the bullpen. Sometimes, you aren't used. Its all part of the process. These guys aren't fine china. I sometimes think fans and media people over analyize these moves.

One thing Girardi does well is spread the work in the pen. No one guy is really "Proctored" and he's not going to "Proctor" Phil Hughes.

Vader,

Yes, the bidding war won't heat up until the off-season.

He has to go somewhere, like Costa Rica for example, that falls outside any draft eligible guidelines, making him a full free agent.

We have to find out who he chooses as an agent.

Most teams, including the Yankees, have extensive files on the better Cuban players. They know their friends, advisors, likes/dislikes, etc.

Once MLB clears his point of origin as an area allowing him to be a FA (probably by late Fall, early winter), it will be open bidding for his services.

Again, all of this is assuming he actually did defect. So far, I'm not seeing any legitimate news organization confirming his defection.
