CC took the loss and it was a bad one as the Mariners beat the Yankees.

The Yankees signed three Dominican prospects including catcher Gary Sanchez. This notebook also has updates on Jorge Posada, Jose Molina and Nick Swisher.

If you’re fired up about getting here early for batting practice, take your time. The players don’t have to report until 11:30 a.m. and the Yankees are not hitting. The Blue Jays are, however.

    Pete,
Again, if you have time, can you ask Cashman if the Yankees will be signing anymore IFA prospects besides the three announced yesterday and I’m not talking about Chapman. Thanks.

Trying to imagine how good Seattle would have been the last 10 years if they’d been able to keep Griffey, A-Rod & Mr Unit (through all of their prime years) and still been able to pay Ichiro too. Just fantasy … I know they couldn’t pay them all in this day & age.

We’ll find out about Chapman soon enough. If the Yanks are in on that one, there’s no way in hell Cashman would (or should) talk openly about it until after he’s signed.

They won’t be signing any more Latin American free agents. They budgeted around 4 million to sign player for the signing period and they targeted and signed the 3 they wanted.

I find that hard to believe that only three players will be signed which is why I want Pete to ask Cashman because Newman has stated they’re not done.

Can the wanganator ever catch a break this season. The only way they can win tomorrow is if he shuts them out. And even then its not a sure thing.

You may find it hard to believe but, its the truth.

Teams like the Yankees used their money early in the process to secure the guys they want.

Unless somebody comes along and wants to play for nothing, they won’t be signing anybody else in this period.

Its especially true now that Chapman defected. They will need all the spare change they can muster to put toward him.

No way, Wang will get the win tomorrow. 4-3 final score.

    You heard it here first.

    SJ44,

I thought you knew how the Yankees operated, but I was wrong. Mark my words, the Yankees will sign some other IFA later this summer and it has nothing to do with Chapman.

How about signing this Cuban pitcher that just defected? Looks very promising, especially given his age (even considering that it may not be accurate!).

Your words have no meaning though. It isn’t a deep year in the LA free agent market and the Yankees have spent their budget to sign these three players.

There are probably 10 really good kids on the market this year and the Yankees signed 3 of them.

They aren’t going to sign Sano or Mateo, probably the 2 other top kids, along with Gary Sanchez.

The Red Sox will sign 2-3 guys.

They aren’t going to just sign guys for the sake of signing them.

If you knew how they operated in the LA market, you would realize this is it.

If you want to believe otherwise, fine by me.

    SJ44,

You’re not listening to me and I’m not some kid that you usually argue with, as I’m older than you and went to my first ball game at Yankee Stadium back when the M&M boys were creating havoc. I never stated anything about signing another seven figure IFA. I already know that a Sano type isn’t in the cards with that price tag. I specifically asked about other IFA prospects in general. You know, the guys you discover through all that great scouting the Yankees do and pay for during a course of a year. The prospects that might cost 100-500K or even less.

Anyhow, I’m asking Pete, not you to ask Cashman about those type of possibilities because I read an interview conducted with Mark Newman last night that the Yankees will continue to scout and sign other prospects this year and I just wanted some confirmation from Cashman too. That’s it, nothing else.

    Sanchez is Venezuelan, not Dominican

Wouldn’t it be great if the Yankees could add a player to the outfield that is batting .300, is on pace for >100 RBIs, nearly 90 runs and 30 stolen bases.

Well, that’s Bobby Abreau this season, and yet another reason why the Yanks need a new GM.
