as far as wang goes, i think the realistic thing for cashman to do with wang is forget about this year and pencil him in as the yankees fifth starter for next year, and over the winter cashman should hire neil allen to be a roving special pitching instructor who's main job is bringing wang back to the form that allen originally taught.

he should pay whatever it takes to pry allen form the devil rays. it's going to take a three year contract so allen doesn't have to worry about leaving a secure job where he's been coaching david price among others.

this would also reverse some of the coaching drain that's been taking place at the minor league level.

the alternative is to continue the downward spiral of wang with eiland coaching a pitcher he doesn't understand.

"I will say, I’ve come around to CB’s and Patrick’s thinking about Hughes. They need to stretch him out and put him in the rotation."

if the yankees put hughes in the rotation, how do they avoid rushing him the way you agree joba was rushed which likely led to his sore shoulder later on last summer ?

Doreen, if that's the case, that's dumb reasoning - they had to try and win today's game (dumb reasoning from Joe, not from you)

SJ, that's fine - I agree as well. However, do you agree that Phil remains in the rotation even when Wang returns?

Cash, laughing is a good thing. I just have to try and keep things in perspective.

I don't know what can be done with Andy - if a pitcher is done, he's done.

CC is all they have, but he gets tagged for runs too. He's not really an ACE,He just plays one.But that's better than what we've seen these 2 games!!

Cash,

Age and an elbow that, if X-Ray'ed, would look like ramen noodles have taken over for ligaments. That's why Andy never submits to MRI's or X-Ray's. He doesn't want to know what's in there.

He's a got a big heart, cares, is accountable but, the skills are eroding fast. Kind of like what Bernie was at the end.

Randy,

Scary thing is, there is no one "right" way of doing it. Stuff just happens and when it does, its like a jailbreak. Its crazy.

Betsy,

There are no "saviors". They don't exist. You grind everyday, everyone pulling on the same rope and see what happens.

I will say, I've come around to CB's and Patrick's thinking about Hughes. They need to stretch him out and put him in the rotation.

If it was just about covering one slot in the rotation, the #5 starter, that's a different story.

However, slots 3-5 are a disaster. Andy and Joba both can't pitch at home. Andy has blown a 7 run lead in Atlanta to an awful Braves team, and now another 4 run lead to a depleted Angels team.

Save a couple of outings, Joba has been the biggest disappointment on the team. JMO but, I think its folly to expect him to turn it around in the second half.

At some point, 4 innings just can't continue.

I think its time to stretch our Phil, and get him back here by the end of the month. At that point, you have 2 months to make up the deficit you will have to get in the playoffs.

Make no mistake, unless slots 3-5 in the rotation suddenly find it, its folly to believe they are going to continue to win 13 out of 15.

Unfortunately, leaks have sprung all over and the options to fix all of them are limited.
