Maddon had Papelbon in the 7th and Nathan in the 8th.

See that Sox fans? saving the better relievers for last...

Papelbon sounded like a fool in his post-game interview on MLB network.

Anyone ever been to Mo's restaurant in New Rochelle? My brother-in-law met him when he was building it and he had no idea who he was. He said he was the mos down to earth guy and never realized how great he is until I told him. Mariano gave him an autographed bat that he still has. It's very rare for Mo to sign a bat.

Poopelbon should bow to Carl Crawford every time he sees him again for saving his a$$.
Only in his feeble mind will he ever match up with the Great Mariano.

I hope people realize that even if the Yankees signed Aroldis Chapman, he's still a LONG way away from being an effective pitcher.

He can throw hard, but not with any consistency. It's far too early to get excited about a pitcher who has the raw talent, but has yet to harness it consistently and who knows if he ever will?

Vintage Mariano Rivera:

"It's another save," Rivera said. "We won, and that's the most important thing for me -- we won. Without the opportunity for my teammates, I could not accomplish it. It's all right, but we won."

And the beauty of it all is that he means it.

Rebecca said something last night (I think it was last night) about Mo and it really struck me as being so right on. We are in the middle of watching a phenomenon beyond what any of us can comprehend and we won't really be able to understand just how much we have in Mo until we no longer have him. His impact is and has been bigger than life.

For me, part of what makes Mariano so special is the grace abd humility that he brings to the game. He may be one of the most understated superstars the game has ever seen.

I really get choked up when I think of what he has brought into the life of this Yankee fan, into all of our lives.

When do words fail the most? When trying to do justice to anything that describes or captures the essence of Mariano Rivera.

Giuseppe Franco -

I know - the Yankees could stand the one more day to refresh. But I also think it would be soooo much better if they could move this day to the middle of the month, because even with the one extra day here it's going to be a grind where a day off would surely be appreciated. And rain days wouldn't be the same, because you'd still have to make up those games.

It's a loooooong season. And the dog days are on their way.

I like th fact that the Yanks get that extra day of rest.

They've got essentially no more off days for about a month because they have to make up a couple of those rainouts from early in the season.

A-Rod, Teixeira, Damon, Matsui, and Posada need that extra day.

I'm surprised anyone cares who got the MVP. Jeter would have been a good choice... or Mo as sort of a lifetime achievement award but having it go to a future Yankee is okay too! lol

Hopefully Pete has a few decent topics in mind for the time between now and Friday's game... I don't know why anyone would waste precious days off by taking Thursday off having already had three days. I know it's not up to the teams, but it should be automatic to schedule four game series beginning Thursday after the All-Star break.
