Hes going on and on about how Erin Andrews put this video out on here own. He doesn’t buy that she was a crime victim.

    ———-

That dude doesn’t even live on this planet. He’s also such a grand conspiracy theorist that makes Oliver Stone look sane.

The last time I heard a segment of that show was the day after Joba was hit by that liner against the Orioles and taken out of the game early.

Carton and his brilliance suggested that it wasn’t precautionary measure because of the line drive off his knee – but a “mental break” because Girardi thought Joba was “mentally shot” due to the stupid media ramblings about his so-called anticipated no holds barred rematch with Aubrey Huff because of his mocked fist pumps.

Asinine doesn’t even begin to describe that theory.

Yeah, I’m sure Girardi wanted to take Joba out of the game in the 1st inning of a scoreless game (and subsequently burning out his bullpen to boot) so that Joba could have a mental break as a result of the media’s manufactured nonsense.

I had never really heard Carton before that morning but that notion was so unbelievably ridiculous and absurd that I haven’t bothered listening to that show again.

    GF:

    It’s inexcusable.

  3. Dr. Cox

I bet it was David Wright who filmed that video without Andrew’s consent.

Underneath that “aw shucks” exterior probably lies a perverted scum bag.

craig carton may be the worst morning show host in new york city. that includes don imus.

  5. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Montero Fanaticus Primus

“craig carton may be the worst morning show host in new york city. that includes don imus.”

When my father drove me to school back when I was in high school, he’d listen to Imus and I wasn’t allowed to change the station.

I suppose this was a step up–when I was younger he’d play Howard Stern.

He thought I was too young to understand.

    He thought wrong.

  6. Wow.

The sports media blogs need to step up. Best and Raissman need to call Carton on character assassination. I’m not letting this one go. Please call WFAN and tell them this is not cool. 718-706-7690

    oh Rebecca-

I have the same horrific Howard Stern in the morning in the car with daddy memory you do. I remember awkwardly covering my ears while my dad laughed hysterically. Traumatic

Why the hell anybody would listen to sports talk radio is beyond my understanding. Even if there is a big news item, it only takes a minute to talk about it, and another five minutes of listener calls to field some opinions. But they are on the air for four to seven hours at a time, so they have to make up a bunch of b.s. to take up air time. It’s ridiculous. Plus, oh as an added bonus, the radio host has to be as obnoxious as possible. I’d rather stab myself in the ear with an ice pick than listen to this crap.

  10. Anthony Murillo

The Yankees understand they’d have to surrender one of two top young pitchers, Joba Chamberlain or new eighth-inning star Phil Hughes, plus some names from a high-end prospect list that would likely include outfielder Austin Jackson and one of two catchers, Jesus Montero or Francisco Cervelli. There is a belief that, while the Yankees have to pay a premium — one person familiar with their thinking said they badly don’t want to “gut their system” — they still have requested of Toronto a right to match (or in this case beat) the best offer when the deal’s about to go down.

So Cashman is saying their isn’t a need to trade for Halladay, but he still wants the right to match or beat the deal.

  11. Mark in Tampa

“So Cashman is saying their isn’t a need to trade for Halladay, but he still wants the right to match or beat the deal.”

Or, more likely, block Boston. IMO, if an NL has the best offer, Cashman lets it happen. Unless it is a giveaway and Cash can steal him for just a bit more, but I don’t think that is going to happen.

I listen to sports talk radio all the time…you just need to have a filter and the ability to take things with a grain of salt. the steve czaban show on fox sports radio is fantastic! I’m not subjected to WFAN down here in VA, but based on the comments today and what I’ve seen (and read here) on Fatcesca I can get the hatred for sports talk radio

on erin andrews…Had a chance to meet here at a Virginia Tech football season kick off dinner last year and she was awesome. Really down to earth girl that loves to talk sports = winning combination bigtime! I was pumped to get a picture with her because my wife had hers taken with Herbstriet at the same event the year before and gloats over it half the time I go to the fridge, but alas we only had a camera-phone and my friend was bumped while taking the picture so it came up blury! it’s a shame she’s going through all this because she really is a very likeable person and always a favorite with the Hokie crowd

I know that everyone here wants the Yankees to get Roy Halladay, but I have a feeling that if the Yankees do make a trade before the deadline it will be for a relief pitcher. Huston Street and Heath Bell are the first choices but they unavailable. Jose Valverde, on the other hand, is available and he would come cheap.

But as brief as I can…a Hokie really isn’t anything…the word Hokie comes from the school’s fight song…”Hokie Hokie Hokie Hi, Tech Tech VPI….” They used to be the “fighting gobblers” because VT was a military school (fighting)and the military students ate their food incredibly fast (gobblers)….a turkey is a gobbler so long ago the mascot became a turkey. after the Hokie Hi fight song was written the took the name Hokies and the mascot morphed into what it is now, a Hokie Bird.

Lets not go overboard here. One thing brought Tex here and it had nothing to do with Cashman. $$$$$$$$$$$$.

  43. Patrick the Prospect Hugger

Yes jpb1973, I realized that after re-reading your post. Hence my subsequent post apologizing for the misunderstanding.

Regardless, I doubt the Yankees trade for a veteran reliever. The bullpen is fine as is. There is also some untapped potential in my opinion. If Bruney rights himself he is dependable. Melancon and Robertson have tons of potential. Albaladejo is sitting in the minors but he could be serviceable. Marte is just starting a throwing program but if he’s healthy he can help.

I’m not counting on any of the guys I just listed, they are just for some depth. Right now I’m satisfied with Rivera, Hughes, Aceves, Coke as our main set-up guys.

  44. Every year is a world series year year

Lets hope Andy has some Joba in him tonight… Im getting too spoiled with wins to expect anything else.

So I spent the weekend in Cape Cod and really had no time to post or scroll through any comments.

What a great weekend of yankees baseball. Sweep the Tigers, gain 2 games on Boston. But KC couldn’t even win one game vs. Tampa. It looked like TB came back late in every game.

Those Mass-holes are unbelievable up there. I was able to keep track of the Sox score just by opening my ears, it seems like everyone on the beach was following the game somehow. What a joy it was listening to those idiots. On Saturday it was all about “We lost but Lowrie hit a HR”.
Yesterday was even better, hearing about them getting shut down by Halladay as the Yankees battled Detroit.

When the Yankee score went final on Sunday I hit some of the beach bars, donned in a Yankees shirt and a big smile. At one bar they wouldn’t even serve me, I was ragging the entire place as I walked out.

Boston hats and jerseys everywhere up there. What a sickening sight.

We are a rabid bunch that love our school…I always jump at a chance to educate anyone who (I think) doesn’t know much about VT. I’m glad you enjoyed the football complex and hope you enjoyed the rest of the campus and Blacksburg. There is definitely something very unique about that place that is very tough to explain to someone who hasn’t been

  47. roger(live from amsterdam)

What will it take to get someone like valverde?

  48. DB

Tomorrow will be interesting, if Mitre wets the bed then the Yanks are in deep doo-doo with their fifth starter spot. At this point, an innings eater who can fill the spot would be fine by me. Maybe a Bannister? Is Kelsey Grammer, er I mean Paul Byrd a possibility?

  49. Coach6423

Indeed, was a beautiful campus. I also love the Football teams entrance on gameday/night…

  50. JohnC

As much as I would love to have Halladay I would love to see Austin Jackson and Jesus Montero in a Yankee lineup with Tex and Arod and Cervelli catching with Austin Romine knocking on the door at AAA. Cashman has worked hard to rebuild the farm system and I would hate to see it gutted again for a quick fix.

  51. miggs

“Tomorrow will be interesting, if Mitre wets the bed then the Yanks are in deep doo-doo with their fifth starter spot”

Not really. Its the 5th starter spot. If the rest of the rotation pitches even close to their capabilities (like the last 3 days) then its really not a concern. Mitre is going to get at least 3-4 starts IMO unless he’s totally horrendous. Seeing his progress in Scranton and knowing his abilities before he got hurt, its hardly something to lose sleep over.

  52. Hokiehill

“Indeed, was a beautiful campus. I also love the Football teams entrance on gameday/night…”

entering to Enter Sandman does have a great affect, especially with everyone in the stands (including grandmas and grandpas) jumping up in down in their maroon and orange….if you’ve never seen it, it’s worth a look on youtube, but it is unbeatable live…

“How can listening to sports radio really be that different than reading most of the opinions on this blog”

most of the posters on this blog have some intelligence
    ______________________________________________________________

Most of the posters on this blog??? Good one. Most of the posters on this blog think Joba is an above average starter today – enough said.

Also, Sports talk radio is great – it might become tedious because they do have many hours to kill but it’s not as easy as you think. Not to mention these guys have amazing ratings.

Francesa earns over $1 million a year for a reason. Love him or hate him – he’s entertaining.

  54. Andrew

Andy gets through the 5th inning and it’s got to be considered progress, considering how he’s looked in his previous 2 starts.

  55. RS

I would still rather get a fifth starter and keep Mitre in AAA for insurance. We can live with him if the rest of the rotation stays healthy all year, Joba pitches like he did yesterday, and Pettitte continues to get run support.

But if Burnett and/or Sabathia get hurt, we’re screwed. Then Joba becomes the #2, Pettitte becomes the #3 and Mitre becomes the #4 starter. Not good at all.

  56. Erica - always OPPC

Wang seems to have vanished into thin air. Does anyone know when/if he is coming back?

  57. vb03

Was in attendance for the Joba/Old Timer’s Game.

Walks and nibbling are still an issue for Joba. He was aggressive when he had to be, but those walks/nibbling with 2 strikes still need work. He was lucky not to give it up in the first 2 innings, but credit to him for gutting it out.

  58. Erik

What’s become of Brian Bruney or the lack thereof ? He can be a key 7th or 8th inning guy.
Coke and Hughes can’t pitch every day.

  59. Tom in N.J.

Eria, “Yankees pitcher Chien-Ming Wang said Friday that his right shoulder is pain free. But Wang, sidelined since July 5 with a strained right shoulder, declined to put a date on his potential return from the disabled list. On Monday, Wang said he is scheduled to play catch for the first time since suffering his injury.

“Now, it’s getting better and better each day,” said Wang, who has spent the last several weeks rehabbing and spending time with this newborn son. “A lot better.”

    http://www.nj.com/sports/index.....r_chi.html

  60. Andrew

Erica I believe it was reported over the weekend that Wang would play catch this week, but they seem to be alluding to the fact that he’s still a ways away. Sounds like September would be the earliest he gets back into ML action, if at all.

  61. RayVT

    HokieHill

Keep up the good Hokie work! LOL! I was the mascot for 1 basketball game. It cost me a six pack. LOL! The game was a blowout in the 1st half against the Hokies, but in the 2nd Half the Hokies came back & won. Charlie Moyer era.

Also, the old wives tale about the word Hokie, was it was a castrated turkey, thus the words “Fighting Gobblers”. I wonder if Michael thought of using that to help his cause. LOL! It has since been disproven.

He’s one year (almost to the day) removed from TJ surgery and is a career minor leaguer with 310 mlb innings (not pitched since 07 in big leagues). What abilities does he have? I think he is closer to being totally horrendous than giving us a quality start.

I’m not down on the guy, just that if he is our best option for a starting rotation spot…we are thin in the rotation to say the least.

  63. Wait till they come to OUR house AGAIN

Mitre is a big start. If he stinks it up we’ve got some issues.

This sounds more like maternity leave than the DL

  65. no.27

It’s great that Hughes has been doing well in the bullpen, but I think the Yankees are setting themselves up to fail with the back end of this rotation.

Mitre has never been a good pitcher and hasn’t been in the major leagues since 2007. He’s supposed to be the stop gap until Wang, who hasn’t been effective all season, comes back.

This wouldn’t worry me if Joba wasn’t pitching on an innings limit. He’s already at 96 innings for the season. If his limit was 160 innings, that would leave about 10 more starts to his season, not including the playoffs.

The Yankees need to get Hughes ready to go back in the rotation and trade for a reliever if the ones they have can’t cut it.

    Hokiehill —

Wirh all due respect Maroon and Orange is a hideous color combo. Still I know your Athletic Director (Jim Weaver) well and the program has much to be proud of, as does the entire Virginia Tech campus the way they rallied after that horrific day.

Certainly it looks like the Yanks are keeping Joba, Hughes and Montero but that doesn’t mean Halladay is out of reach. There’s no way the Jays are getting fair value and with their financial problems moving payroll might be an absolute must — we just don’t know.

I will strongly disagree on the first point but appreciate your comments on the others…having had the chance to meet with Weaver on several occasions I am a big fan. That was certainly a tough time but the support from the extended family of VT was tremendous as was the support from those well outside the community…on the top of that support group list would of course be the Steinbrenners and the entire Yankees organization. They did some great things for the school after the tragedy.

    Hilarious story.

I’ll be up in Newport for a few days of r n’ r in mid August. Love Newport and its angry beaches with jagged rocks everywhere. Cliff Walk is a favorite, but guaranteed to be littered with your “Mass-holes” (great coinage, BTW) in B hats. I will wear the colors up there, as I always do. I fully expect us Boston to be in 3rd place by then (Us in first, followed by the ever scary TB).
