I wish we could have had Kennedy to throw out there as a fifth starter now to see what he could have done, too bad his season is lost. I understand that his stuff is no where near top of the rotation, but if he got back to challenging guys and mixing it up I think he would have proved the doubters wrong this year too and ended up being a viable #4 or #5 pitcher on this team. He started out well in the minors too this year.

GB , gotcha, but just saying especially from a patience standpoint over his career he was a .326 hitter with RISP, I would assume the year to year average was fairly close. That is the glaring difference in the comparison. Cano has been in a very good offensive lineup for years and his aggressiveness wouldn’t seem as aggressive if it produced better results in the RISP situations than he does. Not complaining about having him, he’s one of the top 2B talents in the game and a rare talent, but it’s the difference between him and Utley. It’s not talent as I will say RObbie has as much talent, but Utley is able to hit third and is hitting .333 with RISP. Every time they try to move Robbie up in the lineup to run producing spots he struggles. To become an elite top 30 offensive player in all of baseball and a sure fire shot to end as a HOF he needs to take that additional step forward. That’s all. I just say that initial step forward to start the year and then for some reason just stopped doing it.

It took Clemente 6 years to "learn to hit in the clutch".

"His near no hitter v. Texas in 2007 rebuts your point."

That was awesome. He pulled a muscle or something, right?

Ghost. he's still a baby - and don't forget the Texas and Detroit games this year. Before being put in the pen, he was striking out a LOT of hitters - and walking almost no one. He's not as good now as a starter as he's going to be....remember that. He was aggressive in his starts leading into his temporary conversion - patience is what is required with Phil, as with all youngsters.

The Ghost

Betsy, he’s had some great games as a starting pitcher but it’s never been with the same confidence and swagger that he shows in relief. I just think it shows a higher level of comfort.

If anyone can recap the YES post-game, I'd appreciate it -thanks!

MLB guys were pretty complimentary to the Yanks- actually said they were fun to watch, lol. They also loved how Phil was attacking the hitters with a 3 run lead - no futzing around (here's my best, try and hit it)

Pat M, no question Phil is going to be special........too bad we've got to continue to hear about keeping him in the pen....unbelievable.
