you guys must be taking some really strong drugs if you think the Blue Jays are giving up Alex Rios, who is close to a 5 tool player and a proven major leaguer, for a low level prospect and a high priced utility player. Maybe Vernon Wells because of his contract and diminishing skills, but not Alex Rios. And how can you possibly value Austin Jackson, who hasn't played a game above AAA and has shown little to no power, over Rios? Every time I've seen Rios play I've been impressed and would love to see him patrolling right field at the Stadium for many years. Put him in the Yankees lineup and he'll hit .290 with 25+ HRs and really shore up the outfield defense since he can actually throw to home plate without it bouncing 8 times.

Bret,

Taking Swisher back might help but look at the massive difference in their two contracts. About $40 million in guaranteed money.

I'd trade a lesser prospect and Swisher for Rios, I would not give up Jackson.

"I just don’t appreciate ignorant opinions based mainly on some metrical measure."

Well I still don't think the Angels are as good as the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays. Lately they have been a LOOOOOT better. Ever since facing the Yankees they've basically been unstoppable.

We'll see how it all ends up but I'm still not convinced the Angels are a great team.

According to mlbtrade rumors,Seattle wants Melky and Gardner for Washburn.Have they lost their mind?
--------------------------

Washburn has a low ERA this year - 2.71 On the other hand he's 35. He's no spring chicken. He's more like a roasted chicken.

Patrick,

I agree that the contract makes Rios a less than ideal return for AJAX but maybe the Blue Jays take back Nick Swisher?

While I agree that Rios has regressed, I still think that you have to take in the big picture and look at his bottom-line career wise. He averages .286 with a .336 OBP and .788 OPS with 20+ steals, the ability to play all outfield positions above average and gold glove defense in RF.

With a change of scenery I think Rios is more likely to revert closer to career norms than to regress further from them. He might do better on a winning team where all the players in the clubhouse are excited to play everyday because the will to win is so high with everyone. He might also benefit by being placed further down in the lineup in a better lineup overall than the Jays.

Another thing about him that is a draw IMHO is that he bats righty and as of now the Yankees starting batting order 1-9 only features 2 pure righties - Arod and Jeter.

Rios would be the third.
