Greetings from Gate 4

Here we are at the Delta Terminal at LaGuardia waiting for a 7:35 a.m. flight to Tampa. One cardinal rule of being a beat writer is you always leave too early rather than risk being late. Hence, the 7:30 a.m. flight.

The security line was actually tolerable today thanks to the two models in line in front of me. Seriously, models. They were Eastern European, pulling Louis Vuitton bags and chatting about whatever models chat about. Shockingly, neither turned around and asked me how long Brett Gardner would be out.

Speaking of hot girls, the new season of Entourage is already twice as good as last season. The show is more fun when things are going well for Vince and Co. Big fan of Alexis Dziena, too. Meanwhile, I’m, disturbed that I enjoy True Blood because the show makes no sense.

If you haven’t seen this YouTube clip of the wedding party dancing up the aisle, you’re one of 10 people left in the free world. So get on it.

OK, that’s it. I’m going to read some baseball stories from other papers and then get some sleep on the plane. Back later from Tampa.

    That video clip screams divorce.

  2. lowshun July 27th, 2009 at 6:55 am

I hope they have a divorce dance too, maybe doing it in court would work.

Simone is wayyy hotter than that bug eyed girl, btw…

Pete I could not disagree with you more about Entourage. It’s getting worse by the second. The characters are vapid and the arcs are pointless and repetitious. I think they peaked with the Furries episode and that they should end it this season. True Blood is ok. But really all I care about is the upcoming series of Peep Show and The IT Crowd.

  5. haiku-man July 27th, 2009 at 7:00 am

Saw them on the TOday show LAST WEEK,they only had an hour rehearsal, the brides father encouraged them to upload to Youtube,So the family and friends could view.

Agreed about Entourage Pete, great show but not because of Alexis Dziena.

    Emmanuelle Chriqui uhhh yeah

True Blood is awesome and of course it makes sense, you just don’t understand it yet ;)

  7. Doreen July 27th, 2009 at 7:33 am

    Safe travels, Pete.

  8. Dr. Cox July 27th, 2009 at 7:35 am

Entourage certainly does suck. However, I kind of enjoy the role Ari is playing to them this year of the rough father figure. I guess he was always like that to them, but its being shown a lot more this season.

  9. Al in Bk July 27th, 2009 at 7:36 am

    Ah Pete

You should of asked to models to pose for a picture. After all, they’re models.

    :(

  10. Al in Bk July 27th, 2009 at 7:40 am

speaking of Models and Entourage, does anyone find Kate Hudson attractive?

Looking at the photos in yesterday’s Daily News, and I just don’t get Alex’s taste in women. They’re either muscular or as plain as wonder bread.

  11. Brian, NH July 27th, 2009 at 7:46 am

the characters in Entourage have always been Vapid. Always. That was pretty much the point of the show. True Blood is very entertaining (if confusing to say the lease). I’m starting to get into Hung, its kinda funny.

a divorce and the new-found ability of dating name-brand women is a-rod’s new way of competing with jeter’s trademark hobby.

even so, i still have a lot of compassion for alex and wish him the best.

  14. carl July 27th, 2009 at 7:52 am

When I hear about a MLB players love life I tend to channel my inner Alex Rios.

  15. Ryan July 27th, 2009 at 7:57 am

Entourage has been amazing this season. Drama has been epic, “Grown men shouldn’t give other men birthday gifts…unless their ……hahahaha. How can anyone say they didnt like the last two episodes. I want to know what Turtles business idea is.

Sometimes I think when a rich, attractive athlete isn’t dating the hottest women available some guys take it personally.

So Alex is dating a woman who isn’t the hottest thing walking. Welcome to the club Alex. Women do it all the time, and some men should be happy about that.

Well, at least he isn’t dating that fossil Madonna.

Sheez, watching her flex her wrinkled, steroid muscles gave me the chills.

“I say that Cashman brings in someone totally unexpected (pitcher) and that the move turns out to be effective. He does his best work under the radar.”

you must have better doppler than i do :)

  20. Ryan July 27th, 2009 at 8:18 am

About john Smoltz though. Honestly its not the least bit shocking he is what he is. A 40+ pitcher coming to the american league for the first time after shoulder surgery. The AL East is a tough as it gets and smoltz might have had trouble in his prime. If the yankees had signed him there would have been laughter about them signing another old pitcher past his prime but instead the espn nation promoted it as if they had signed Roy Halladay.

    What does this even mean?

  23. dtv July 27th, 2009 at 8:29 am

I know ESPN is over the top in terms of promoting the Red Sox. But I was offended when the promoted the Smoltz signing as a another “brilliant” “steal” by Theo. They were trying to equate the signing of Penny and Smoltz to the CC and AJ signings.

That’s when they crossed the line from being fans to being propagandist.

Or about the time many on this blog went from reality to Sterling-like. Never happened that way on ESPN or anywhere else. Paranoia is very unbecoming.

  29. 86w183 July 27th, 2009 at 8:47 am

Smoltz and Penny combined will cost the Sawx at least $ 11 Million and possible more. For that so far they’ve gotten 135 innings, an 8-8 record and 5.24 ERA. Right now it looks like Penny was a solid sign and Smoltz could be a disaster.

Lotsa pressure on Tampa these three days. They are already 6.5 games back and there will be less than 60 games to go after Wednesday’s game.

I heard somewhere that the Sox countered with a deal centered around Masterson and Bowden for a guy like V Martinez or A Gonz. What a joke.

  35. Mickey B July 27th, 2009 at 8:55 am

That wedding video…aren’t they dancing to a song sung by someone who beats women?

  36. Al in BK July 27th, 2009 at 8:57 am

Penny had made 19 starts. Number of times he’s pitched more the 6 innings = zero.

The guy is 30 years old, without injury, and he can’t pitch more than 6 innings per game.

The only solid I see is a bowel movement.

  37. Bronx Born July 27th, 2009 at 8:58 am

Welcome to the heat – Pete!

  38. Jonathan B July 27th, 2009 at 8:59 am

Entourage is an amazing show, but people complaining about Season Five I really didn’t get — it was also excellent. It can’t all be great for Vince, otherwise there’s no drama (even though there is always Drama, lol). True Blood is just such a lame show, I’m sorry, it came highly recommended and I gave it a chance with Season One, which I bought on Blu-ray, and it’s just a bunch of hicks basically having sex with each other. Mix that in with another young girl who thinks vampires are so dreamy and mysterious, blah blah, it’s just as bad as crap like Twilight. It’s seriously just awful TV.

  39. Count of Montefusco July 27th, 2009 at 9:01 am

    Entourage?!

    Seriously? Ouch.

Pete, when it comes to tv, you sure know your baseball

  40. UNCYankee July 27th, 2009 at 9:05 am

This may be a little off topic but it is a response to Pete’s “pony league home run” description of Jeter’s home run on Saturday. Sure the new stadium is playing smaller than the old one, but I don’t think it is smaller than the original pre-renovation stadium. There is a picture of the 1951 World Series looking out toward right field and at the pole it says “296 ft.” and in straight away RF it says “344″ ft. I am pretty sure that RF in the original stadium was smaller than the current one. People have been getting “cheapie” homers in the Stadium for years….why continue to beat that drum. I think I speak for many when I say to Pete, and all the media, to let this story go.

  41. Irish Johnny July 27th, 2009 at 9:07 am

I wonder what has received more clicks, the Wedding dance video Pete links to or the Erin Andrews tape?

  42. CountryClub July 27th, 2009 at 9:08 am

While I think that wedding video was funny, I agree with others who say that their marriage isnt long for this world.

Entourage is a fun show. Nothing more, nothing less. And, so far it’s been good this year.

  43. NYYanksFan July 27th, 2009 at 9:09 am

Eastern European models at Laguardia? Guessing they weren’t going to Tampa unless Jeter’s new house is finished and accepting reservations.

  44. NYYanksFan July 27th, 2009 at 9:13 am

“I agree with others who say that their marriage isnt long for this world.”

Disagree. A sense of humor when planning a wedding and entering into a marriage is a good thing.

  45. JohnC July 27th, 2009 at 9:21 am

Entourage has been really good so far. Watched the premier of Hung and enjoyed it very much. I just started watching True Blood, so I am lost so far on that one. Waiting for September when my favorite, Curb Your Enthusiasm comes back, with guest appearances by the entire Seinfeld cast.

  46. Bronx Jeers July 27th, 2009 at 9:23 am

“alexis Dzenzia or whatever her name is looks like shes 11….”

    Actually she’s ancient at 25.

“Fans” of hers should check out Jarmusch’s Broken Flowers.

  47. Joe July 27th, 2009 at 9:26 am

Entourage is my favorite show. Season 6 is twice as COMICAL as Season 5 and is already starting out to be my favorite season out of them all. Season 5 needed to happen. It was a great season as well.

For whoever asked about Turtles business idea, at the end of Season 5 he brought up to Jamie-Lynn “Lim-Ho’s”. He mentioned it last night when he was on the phone with his cousin Ronny, so I’m pretty sure that is it.

    The 50-Cent cameo was great.

  48. Rich July 27th, 2009 at 10:22 am

True Blood is the best show on TV hands down even though it doesn’t make sense at times yet you can always figure things out…

  49. SMK July 27th, 2009 at 10:38 am

If that was their wedding entrance, I wish I could have gone to the reception (I’m guessing clothes were probably optional).

  50. mrsderekjeter July 27th, 2009 at 10:42 am

true blood is amazing. last nites episode was insaneeeee. i love it.

    That is a good wedding.

  52. reacher July 27th, 2009 at 11:18 am

    Peter actually said…

“The plane best not be late as I want to be on time for Derek’s bash. By the way “Charming ladies”, would you like to accompany me?

  53. posamund July 27th, 2009 at 11:19 am

Lost a little respect for you today, Pete. Entourage is, easily, one of the most ridiculous shows on television. It makes True Blood look like ER.

  54. Nate July 27th, 2009 at 11:47 am

My closest girlfriend used to date the groom in the video, it didn’t work out with them (obviously) but my friend says that he and his wife are unbelievable together…so I wouldn’t say a divorce is imminent based solely on the video. But then again, who ever believes they’re going to get a divorce?

  55. Stanny46 July 27th, 2009 at 11:52 am

Thanks Pete! I was one of the few left in the world who had not seen that! I am the maid of honor in best friend’s wedding in December, she should consider this ;) .

Pete, I’m concerned. We don’t get an airport nickname?

  57. Marc July 27th, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Yankee baseball, Entourage, True Blood, and Californication are the only things worth watching on TV.
