There is NO WAY Toronto trades Halladay to a division rival under ANY circumstances.

Any GM who likes his job to be smooth in the future (all GMs) refuses to do this because when the prospects don’t pan out, she and Ownership are reminded of the bad deal multiple times a season. Just not going to happen. Period.

Washburn will not be traded. Seattle thinks they have a shot at winning the West outright. They’ll listen to offers but nothing will prompt them to deal.

I think the Sox will definitely try and make a big move.

The question is, what do they need more…a starter or a big hitter? I’m assuming they’re not willing to give up the prospects to land both.

Meanwhile, if the Yankees can get a good #3 starter w/o giving up Hughes, Joba, Ajax, or Montero, they’ve got to make that deal.

Boston losing tonight isn’t going to change trade thoughts anymore than NYY’s loss or Tampa’s win will change things for them. If they weren’t willing to trade the farm before, tonight changed nothing.

A part of me is afraid the Yankees will get Washburn and he’ll have a terrible August and September to bring his ERA back up to normal heights.

But on the other hand, sometimes veteran pitchers just have those great, magical years. I know Washburn isn’t as old, but think of Mussina last year or even Jamie Moyer, pitching to a 3.70 ERA at CBP of all places.
