CC vs Buerhle…
a chance for CC to step it up and show who the real ace is
I am very glad it’s not a Buerhle-Mitre matchup…
Ooh does CC-Buerhle look good…
“This debate about Joba is why an innings limit is stupid. It should just be a season long pitch count”
it’s not that simple, bro.
Joba needs to learn how to go deep into games (past the 4th inning). He is learning this now, and you can’t inerfere with this.
seems like it would be better skipping him in the rotation, every chance they have. But there is no perfect way to deal with this
Anything think the Yanks will skip Joba’s next start, to enable them to line up AJ/CC/Andy/Joba va Boston?
Hard to sit a hot Joba now…but it just may be the best move.
Thoughts everyone?
Game times are NY time. My schedule has Sunday’s game as 2:05.
Any chance they skip Joba on Monday? They could go Pettitte and Mitre on regular rest in Toronto. Then have Burnett/CC/Joba/Pettitte against Boston.

Sunday: LHP CC Sabathia (10-7, 3.83) vs. LHP Mark Buehrle (11-4, 3.45), 1:05, YES

Looking forward to this
Yankees bringing up Action Jackson.

Wow. Guess we’re on the same page.
sorry thinking about
http://www.nypost.com/seven/07.....181974.htm
how is that not the Sunday ESPN game? it sux being a Yankee fan in NH
anyone know where i can find evan longoria quotes on joba throwing over his head last night
Pete, I’m pretty sure Pettitte doesn’t have a 5.19 ERA
I thought CC v. Buehrle was on Sunday Night Baseball?
“Yankees bringing up Action Jackson.”
Most likely they won’t. Patterson has been released and Josh Anderson can be gotten for Shelley Duncan.
SWEEP!!!!!!!
Vinny…
If CC got hurt I say give up the farm and go get Doc. This team is rolling. Let Boston have Doc and Vmart, we still beat them punks! Lets get it on! This team is gelling. We don’t need our team hugging and saying goodbye’s to team mates. Take what we have and go out and beat those suckers! Come on!
I think ESPN is showing LA on Sunday night.
“This team is rolling. Let Boston have Doc and Vmart, we still beat them punks! Lets get it on!”
They are still not getting Doc. I don’t even know why ppl still think this.
Bill From NJ,

I think Doc stays in Tor.
Maybe Washburn?
The mobile site is good but needs a refresh link near the bottom of the page. Too much scrolling.
CC-Buehrle is gonna be a good one.
“Let Boston have Doc and Vmart, we still beat them punks!”

unless they’re going to completely empty their farm plus Buchholz and Bard, they can’t have both.
“Anything think the Yanks will skip Joba’s next start, to enable them to line up AJ/CC/Andy/Joba va Boston?
Hard to sit a hot Joba now…but it just may be the best move.

They’re going to have to start skipping him if he’s going to be stretched to the end of the season.
The Saturday game is on Fox I believe. Doesn’t help with Sunday but at least you can get one of the games if you’re out of market, although it’s regional coverage, so you may get a different game in the west.
Pete,
I agree with Bronx Jeers.
you have to have a refresh button at the bottom
I refuse to use the mobile site for comments because you can’t keep scrolling up and down
“CC-Buehrle is gonna be a good one.”
I’m hoping it’s not, because we get the Buehrle from the 6th inning the other day…
On the mobile site, did anyone else not see any of the in-game updates last night? I kept refreshing but nothing ever came up.

Hahahaha the Red Sox are not in first and Christina25 can’t stand it.
——————————-
She just needs to vent and let a little steam off. When teams actually try against the Boston teams, their fans get upset and their players whine about pitches and foul calls, etc.
Christina, have you ever seen that stinky movie which has Audrey Raines “24″ character in it? There is a father who tells his son that Derek Jeter’s name cannot be mentioned in the household. I think you’d enjoy it
Also, did anyone enjoy the Red Sox fan getting killed in Transformers.

Petitte Era 4.67
“I refuse to use the mobile site for comments because you can’t keep scrolling up and down”
That is definitely a really frustrating aspect of trying to check the blog from a mobile device. You can see Pete’s posts just fine but getting through a long comment thread, especially a game thread, takes like a half hour. Refresh at the bottom or some type of mobile-only, “Go to bottom of page/most recent comment” would be useful.
I think the Yankees need to skip Joba a few times in order to keep him fresh and his innings under control; there is no way they can afford to remove him from the rotation.
I’m getting antsy for the Yankees to do a deal – I’m sure they will be making at least one, perhaps two moves. This is such a good team that they just need to tweak it a bit….looking forward to seeing what they are able to do.
very fair matchups, hopefully we can a least split the series
(from previous thread)
Dennis, I am very very happy. But I think you know that this optimist never doubted from day one that the Yanks were going to lead the pack. So for me it’s just happy business as usual! The thing that always pleases me the most is that I tend to go through seasons never worrying. That of course turns into its own greatest reward.
Safe trip. I have a brother in Houston and most times of the year it is far too hot for me to travel there!
Boston Dave – seriously, that lobster roll will knock your socks off. One of the people I went with already wants to go back!
I’m looking forward to this series. CC vs Buehrle could be an epic matchup, if CC steps up his game a little bit.
@Jim pir-one
HAH when that movie started i told everyone i was with “this guy better die first”.
sure enough, even the decepticons are yankee fans
“Petitte Era 4.67″

how much lower is that than the avg 4th or 5th starter in MLB?
forget about the fact it’s in the AL East and the new YS has been a hitters park this season.
All things considered, Andy has done well for them this year.
Not to mention without Andy, they’d REALLY need more pitching right now.
trisha,
I might just have to go TODAY!
it looked so good
Tom B,
haha i like ur thinking!

Betsy,
What do you mean you’re getting antsy?;)
i don’t fear Victor Martinez to the Sox. Expect it will happen.
that said, how much do you think he will help them. In other words, how good of player is he ?
Andy’s ERA would have dropped a good bit if not for an Aceves meltdown.
“@KenDavidoff Jays increased their scouting of Yanks’ minor leagues last week – setting the stage for…prob. not Doc, maybe Frasor/Downs.”
Interesting, either guy would be helpful in the pen.

scenerio 1- Washburn(Washy)/Morrow(Morry)
scenerio 2- Washy/Lowe
scenerio 3- rob Zach Duke(Dukey) from Pittsburgh
Thanks Trisha.
Have a great day all.

vinny-b (keep Montero)–
Vmart is having a really good season. Im my opinion, I think he’s the best offensive catcher in the game right now. He scares me more then Mauer does.
At least the Yankees are facing pitchers we’ve seen before and have had mostly success against in the times we’ve faced them. Gavin Floyd has a career 6.75 era against us in a small sample size, same with Danks and his 6.10 era. Clayton Richard did well against us in his only career start versus the Yanks. And Mark Buehrle is a career 1 – 5 with a 6.11 era against us, so we should hopefully be able to take 3 of 4, but anything can happen.
Actualy, both Posada and Mauer both have higher OPS’s than V-Mart. He doesn’t scare me at all. Mauer is WAY better.
“scenerio 3- rob Zach Duke(Dukey) from Pittsburgh”
Zach Duke is very underrated.
By the way, I think the Yankees are making the Mo game a Yankees classic.
Boston Dave, you are right there. Absolutely do it. Be prepared to take some of it home! The fries are average. But we didn’t go there for the fries!!!
(If you are into fries, seriously take a day trip to Wright’s Farm in Nasonville, RI. They have family-style chicken and it is a landmark for locals. Everything they serve is great but their salad, rolls, and fries are to die for. I can’t do that place too often. It would definitely clog your arteries if you did!!! http://www.wrightsfarm.com/ )
what is Andy’s ERA away from YS?
“All things considered, Andy has done well for them this year”
personally, if it is a road start i would give Andy the ball as the #3, in a playoff game. With the exception of Rivera, no Yankee in this run has been bigger in key playoff games, then Andy Pettitte. Under the above circumstances, would give Andy the ball and have Joba ready to go at the first sign of any trouble
bill he’s only been that good since he started splitting half his games at catcher with shoppach. the red sox would always have one of varitek/lowel/ortiz/youk out of the lineup to accommodate victor.
I know Victor is a good player, and he probably will end up with the Sox because of circumstances (them being the Sox and every other team wanting to bow down to excellence (2 championships in 90 years))…
But why should we expect or better question, why should the Red Sox get who they want because they need it? The Indians dont have to give him up unless they get what’s proper value for him. Why should the REd Sox get what they need because they need it?
When we needed players, it was Wang and Cano, for Jason Michaels no less!! It’s always players off our Major League roster. Why should it be any different for the Sox? Because they should be respected for building championship teams, while we buy our teams?? It’s a joke!
Wait till they come to OUR house AGAIN–
He had a really bad July, yes. But take away July, and his #’s are mostly likely going to be better then Posada and Mauer.
Upstate Kate-
Andy’s era on the road is 3.69 with a 4 – 2 record. At home he’s 4 – 4 with a 5.68 era
the biggest issue for the Yankees is not who starts games for them in the regular season, it’s how they get Joba ready to pitch in the #3 spot in the playoffs. At this point in time, the way they are playing, they could throw a Sergio Mitre-type pitcher out there every 5 days and still win another 33 games to give them 95 for the season and guarantee a trip to they playoffs. What’s much more important, at least to me, is that Joba keep his edge and be able to dominate in the playoffs-I’m sure the Yankees have a plan that goes far beyond Girardi’s comments that ‘when Joba hits his limits he’s done’, Joe knows more than anyone else if he doesn’t get deep into the playoffs this year he’ll be doing something else next year.
I don’t think V-Mart is as good as Posada or Mauer.
“He had a really bad July, yes. But take away July, and his #’s are mostly likely going to be better then Posada and Mauer.”
Martinez has been in a slump since May. He’s batting .211 since June 1st with 8 homers and 31 rbi
““scenerio 3- rob Zach Duke(Dukey) from Pittsburgh”
Zach Duke is very underrated.”
Him and Malhom are very very underrated.
Jason Frasor can pitch 2 or 3 innings at a time.
93-94 mph fastball w/ good control
76 mph hook
1.000 WHIP not bad at all.
NESPN is to baseball impartiality what Artie Lange is to sobriety.
Their farcical “Power Rankings” have the fundamentally flawed Red Sox ranked 3rd in all of baseball. I guess the team on the field is completely irrelevant — it’s all about the “B” on the hat.
After looking at Mauer’s stats, I’d say:
Mauer
V-mart
Posada
“i don’t fear Victor Martinez to the Sox. Expect it will happen.
that said, how much do you think he will help them. In other words, how good of player is he ?”
I agree, Vinny. Martinez value stems from the fact he’s a cather who can hit. His OPS+ is 115. To put that into perspective Melky’s is +110 and Swisher’s is +120. Victor Martinez production this season falls inbetween the Yankees 7th and 9th hitter.
Ramey – Traded his Girlfriend to the Pirates for a PTBNL–
True. And his overall stats are still that impressive.
Are the Yankees seriously making a 9-1 win a Yankees classic?
What a joke.
“what is Andy’s ERA away from YS?”
3.69 ERA another words road teams don’t want to see him.
The choice between Andy and Joba for game #3 is the decision on who would you prefer pitching a 7th game. If we get the current Joba, of course, it’s an easy decision.
Wait till they come to OUR house AGAIN

Are the Yankees seriously making a 9-1 win a Yankees classic?
What a joke.
which one?
thanks Ramey- I knew he was better on the road, but wasn’t sure how much better.
Posada is better than V-Mart. Higher OPS and not slumpoig since June.
I was wrong. The game before the Mo game is a Yankees classic. What bull.
“But why should we expect or better question, why should the Red Sox get who they want because they need it? The Indians dont have to give him up unless they get what’s proper value for him. Why should the REd Sox get what they need because they need it?

I know. But from the time Theo visited Curt Shilling for a Thanksgiving Day meal, is basically the way its been.
am surprised they had to give up Hanely Ramirez for Beckett. Then again, the RedSox front office didn’t know what they had in Ramirez
bill your analysis of victor is way off. he had a hot APRIL and has completely regressed since.
april – .386/.446.636
may – .321/.413/.468
june – .240/.322/.480
july – .175/.280/.250
IMO, boston can have him.
Rishi-The game before the Mo game.
How is that a classic?

Much more of Dennis in exchange for much less (none?) of Christina25.
I think that’s a deal everyone could agree on.
Cash, Theo – make it happen!!!
Ode to Andy
What kind of pitcher will Andy be today?
Will he pitch, and keep them at bay?
Or will it not be his day?
Will he pitch like the Andy of old?
If not will they say he’s old?
Their lefty against our lefty,
a real pitcher’s duel.
Will the Yankees be the victor,or something cruel?
Will he give up a lot of runs like CC did?
Let’s hope he’s more like Joba ,the kid.
What kind of pitcher will Andy be to day?
trisha:
98-64
Brandon-
How can Frasor pitch 2 or 3 innings at a time? He’s only pitched more than 1 inning on 7 occasions this season and only 2 innings twice. He’s also only been pushed past 25 pitches a handful of times this season.
That being said, the Yankees could always use another body to throw out there in the 7th inning if the need arises.
The Friday and Sunday games against the White Sox are also on WGN. I’ll definitely watch, but I will probably have the TV on mute.
The plague of Hawk Harrelson must be avoided.
CB, If it helps, I’ll throw in some “cash considerations”
trish, 104 seems to have been left out so put me down
Wait, the new classic is the one two before the game, not right before.
Either way it’s a joke.

Watched him pitch relief on the MLB.com video. My fault. Still a damn good middle relief guy.
I like Frasor as replacing Bruney in the bullpen if Bruney continues to perform like he did last night, and how he has mostly since his return. Good 1 inning guy for the 6th or 7th inning. He or Downs would be good additions, no doubt about it. I lean towards Downs a little more now because it looks like Marte’s arm is damaged goods still, so another lefty might be extremely helpful.
I say “lets go out there and beat those suckers!!”
CB-
Can we make it Christina25 and some lohud prospect trolls for Dennis? I think we need to increase our offer
If Hinske doesn’t play tonight when will he play?
“Watched him pitch relief on the MLB.com video. My fault. Still a damn good middle relief guy.”
No doubt about it. You can never have too many of those
Andy deserves a win tonight. He pitched really well in his last 2 starts and didnt get a W either time. Lets step it up tonight offense! ( not that i’m complaining about our current performances!! )
“If Hinske doesn’t play tonight when will he play?”
Another day?
“I like Frasor as replacing Bruney in the bullpen if Bruney continues to perform like he did last night, and how he has mostly since his return. Good 1 inning guy for the 6th or 7th inning. He or Downs would be good additions”
I’d like Stevie Wonder replacing Bruney right now. Downs and Frasor won’t be cheap, wonder what JP wants.
“If Hinske doesn’t play tonight when will he play?”
When he is called?
although today makes the most sense in this series with the righty matchup…
“The plague of Hawk Harrelson must be avoided”
ahh yes. The antidote/elixir/quick fix/corrective measure/healing agent/medication/placebo, anytime Michael Kay begins to get on one’s nerves
I can replace Bruney…stick Hughes in there throwing in the mid 90s, then mix in my 40 MPH heater and those guys will be all mixed up!

Can you post the box score
So if the Yanks win 61% of their games, which they have up to this point in the season, they will end up with 98-99 wins (98.8). If they slow down a bit and win 59-60% of their games (59.9%) then I’ll be right on at 97 wins…

There’s a mobile version of the blog? When did this happen? How do you get it?
Scott Downs would be an excellent addition. Acquiring him would be further acknowledgement that Marte is toast. Should cost more than a prospect in the 10-20 range or two in the 20-30 range.
Still doesn’t solve starter issue unless it frees up Coke or Bruney for a second deal.
Doesn’t it feel good knowing that the Yankees are tied(Dodgers) for the most wins in MLB?
62-39
ESPN is playing somber music for 2 minutes while reliving the fifth greatest moment I can remember occurring during an NFL season, Bernard Pollard, of which I bought a jersey in honor of his great effort.
OH YEAAAAH ! GO YANKS !
Seriously though, how good is Tex?

Did Tom Brady steal your dog or somethin? Ouch
“There’s a mobile version of the blog? When did this happen? How do you get it?”
Go to the site on a mobile device, same link
No. It was a farce that the media made Pollard’s play out to be dirty because it happened to injure the Patriot. Pollard was showing effort, which is very rare against the Pats, he continued through with the play and the unfortunate incident happened and Pollard was made to look like a cheap player.
Skip Bayless on ESPN2-
Garza wasn’t throwing at Tex on purpose, it was a mistake that he took credit for.
Went on to say, if you throw at someone on purpose, you don’t need to admit it, they know it.
Bayless must have drawn the “say something intelligent” card today.

Bruney looks to me like he should be sent down to scranton to get some regular work in and figure out what is going on. Is that possible given his status?
If you go to TSN.ca you will see a picture of a very frustrated roy halladay, as opposed to the photos of a very jubilant Joba in the NY papers.
“Bruney looks to me like he should be sent down to scranton to get some regular work in and figure out what is going on. Is that possible given his status?”
No options, he would be DFA’d and probably wouldn’t clear waivers.

The only way I’d watch even a second of Skip Bayless is if I’m undergoing the Ludovico technique.
Sean McAdam of the Boston Herald says the Red Sox already rejected a “one-for-one proposal that would have sent Clay Buchholz to Cleveland for Martinez.”
——
and yes, more dennis, less christina25
trisha,
are you really letting people pick the Yanks record this far into the season when we all picked before it started??
not fair!
I used “the Price is Right” strategy when I made my pick
Bruney’s velocity is good, it just seems he doesn’t have command yet – his workload has been really minimal this year due to the injuries so I think it is just lack of time in the saddle. Not many low leverage situations to use him in these days – lots of close games.
BDave, they get two asterisks next to their names and it shows they didn’t pick until July 29th or later. I think that’s fair.
Sox aren’t getting Doc or VMart – unless asking prices change drastically, and soon…
28 hours and counting
trisha,
thats fair
my pick is looking worse and worse anyway!
CC/Buerhle is either a great match-up or yet another occasion where CC disappoints.
For all of the talk and rumors about the Red Sox and Blue Jays discussing a deal for ace Roy Halladay, multiple baseball sources indicated to the Globe’s Tony Massarotti that the sides are not close to a deal.
According to one source, the Red Sox have had nothing more than exploratory discussions with the Blue Jays and have given no indication that they will even make an aggressive offer. The chances of a deal currently seem extremely remote, though there is always the chance that talks will intensify just before 4 p.m. tomorrow, when teams like the Red Sox are likely to use the deadline as a leveraging point.

“and yes, more dennis, less christina25″
We all know I am not one to mince my words.
ALL Dennis, NO Christina25!
L to the 2nd,
apparently (if we are going to believe the rumor), the Indians offered VMart for Buchholz straight up and the Sox declined.
I had originally said I’d do that trade if I were the Indians but I think the consensus here was that the Indians should be getting even more than that.
However, if this rumor is true, the Sox may “cave in” and give up Clay for VMart.
Have to say this is extraordinary piece of writing and behind the scenes look at the Yankees and what happened in August 1979 for 5 days during Thurmon Munson’s passing. Only the first 3 parts are up but really a must read

“Maybe the DL is an option for him. Something must be hurting him”
His ego?
***
These days the DL is so loosy goosy, that just might pass
Uncle Ellsworth what kind of mobile device do you have?
With a blackberry I’m pretty sure you can hit b or t on the keypad to go straight to the top or bottom. Not positive on the actual hotkeys but Nick told me once.
With an iPhone hit the top bar and it goes immediately to the top. Hit the “Add a Comment” link to go immediately to the bottom.
Not sure about other devices but the mobile site works perfectly with my iPhone, it’s a huge improvement.
“These days the DL is so loosy goosy, that just might pass”
They could just say its bruised? I mean if Pavano can bruise his buttocks, we can put Bruney on the shelf for a bruised sense of self-worth.
“How is this kid Zack Kroenke? Is he an option as a fifth starter, or a replacement for Bruney…
He is 5-1 with a .91 ERA…….WHIP of 1.16″
LH specialist, not that special, ok at best.
“The only way I’d watch even a second of Skip Bayless is if I’m undergoing the Ludovico technique.”
He’s like most sports talk people. A necessary evil to get the news and hear the players interviewed.
He was fun today though because he is bumming about the Sox and called the Rays gutless and stupid for getting no hit by Buehrle and then taking credit for hitting a batter they never meant to hit.
“ESPN is playing somber music for 2 minutes while reliving the fifth greatest moment I can remember occurring during an NFL season, Bernard Pollard, of which I bought a jersey in honor of his great effort.”
Someone being injured is a great moment?
You must be a Jets fan.
Yankee’s starting rotation ERA – 4.48
Red Sox starting rotation ERA – 4.51
AL League average – 4.54.
That’s a real achievement by the yankee’s staff. They were close to dead last in rotation ERA for a long time. Given Wang’s problems, AJ and CC’s slow starts, and Mitre that’s a lot of flux to overcome.
I believe this is the first time this season the yankees rotation ERA has been better than the Sox.
“With an iPhone hit the top bar and it goes immediately to the top. Hit the “Add a Comment” link to go immediately to the bottom.”
Patrick – thanks for the tip, it totally saved my finger from being overworked. lol.
Pete,
You have Andy Pettitte’s ERA wrong, its at 4.67

I’m waiting for a team to send someone to the DL for “inflated ERA-itus” or the condition known as “poor playnemia”
or maybe they can take a note from the movie Crash, and send someone down for uncontrollable flatulence

Pena
Ajax
Shelley
Jorge Vasquez! (jk sorta)
Other?

Didn’t the Tigers kind of do that with Dontrelle Willis?
With all due respect to
Mark Buerhle, his lights out pitching has to end eventually.
The Yankees need to make adjustments to a fast working pitcher that’s in the strike zone frequently. C.C. will need to be on top of his game and keep White Sox bats quiet.

Probably Pena or Shelley, they would never give us a treat and bring up Ajax.

Which “Crash”
The crazy one with Spader and Holly Hunter
or the OK but overrated one with everyone and their mother?
CB-
Where did you find the starting rotation ERA stat?
““I’m waiting for a team to send someone to the DL for “inflated ERA-itus” or the condition known as “poor playnemia” ”

Apparently Willis had a nervous breakdown, that will happen when you go from Cy Young to batting practice in a few years.
“With all due respect to
Mark Buerhle, his lights out pitching has to end eventually.”
It did end, in the 6th inning of his last start, which was a loss…hopefully that pitching will continue with us.
Unlce, the second Crash with everyone and their mother. They wrote up a report saying the racist officer wanted to be reassigned to a new partner due to the non-racist partner have uncontrollable flatulence so the whole race issue wouldn’t have to be hashed out. the movie was ok, but it was a little too over-the-top IMO.
Dontrelle was put on the DL for anxiety. Which he then claimed was diagnosed by a blood test. The next day he said he didn’t have anxiety.
Excuses for the DL don’t get any thinner than that.

“Weak hips” is pretty close…
I think Daisuke had the same issue as Dontrelle.

I agree.
Check out the One with Spader if you Literally like car wrecks. its really messed up
If I’m cashman I’m looking at a couple of options:
1) Roy Halladay: Arguably, the best pitcher in the game. My only concern is that he has never pitched in the playoffs. He certainly has the talent to pitch effectively but can he pitch a BIG game in OCTOBER? We dont know! In addition, look at the prospects I will lose in order to acquire him…i.e Jesus, Jackson , Phil or Joba. Phil has beenn lights out and Joba is off to a hot second half. If its isn’t broke dont fix it.
2)Jarrod Washburn: is having an incredible year and his record/ era is 8-6 2.64. He has a world series ring and he has pitched in big games. He might seem like the safer risk, no??? His trade value will not command the likes of phil or joba, thus giving us an even stronger bullpen come oct. MO,phil, joba, bruney, coke. I can go to war with that. That would make me feel more comfortable.

Sorry I’m late to the party…
“SI’s Jon Heyman tells us the Marlins are “are in serious discussions to try to land Padres closer Heath Bell.” Heyman says it looks like it could be Andrew Miller or Sean West. Either young lefty seems like a solid return for Bell. Heyman notes that the Yanks also have interest, but the Fish “are in good position to make a deal.”
would the Fish be interested in Dunn and Mcallister?
“Is anyone really shocked that Ortiz is on the list?? I’m not.”
nope, there was a reason why Ortiz suddenly became “feared” when he got to Boston.

FOX and ESPN always seemed to think it was some sort of devine intervention that he became a major weapon after the Twins dropped him for nothing
L to the 2nd-
Please resubmit that when I officially start the game at 3. I can’t start sorting through line ups yet
If the Yanks aren’t going to call up Jackson for a few weeks to spell Garnder ( their games are the same ) , then I wouldn’t mind them taking a flyer of Corey Patterson…..With all his physical taments, it just surprises me that he never really put it together…..
Erica,
if Ortiz was that good with the Twins then he would had been getting bloop singles or cheap hits since he was on a turf field.
Yeah, must’ve been that “Fenway magic” (eye roll)
Didn’t hurt having Manny protect you, either, fat boy.

Christina 25, where are you???? Let us all know your thoughts on this one.
“nope, there was a reason why Ortiz suddenly became “feared” when he got to Boston.”
Not to mention he’s reverted back to his pre-Boston days. He was injury prone and inconsistent with a huge hole in his swing as a Twin. And guess what? The last 2 years he’s been injury prone and inconsistent with a huge hole in his swing. This is the real David Ortiz, tehre was a reason why the Twins let him go for nothing, he was nothing.
Erica OK may be gone for a while.
No brownie points for early submissions?
Interesting (not in a good way, lol) that the Sox continue to have talks with the Jays; the Yankees really need to monitor this and have the Jays give them a chance to match up to any offer. If JP was smart, that’s what he’d do…..
What’s the butt-scuttle on Heath Bell? Rumors abound the Yanks inquired on him. What’s he worth?
This is going to absolutely kill Red Sux FakerNation. Normally I despise the NY Times but today they made my day. What are some good Sux blogs? I gotta see what they’re saying.
It’s about time somebody outted Ortiz. Should have been done when A-Rod got busted.
“Asked about the 2003 drug test on Thursday in Boston, Ortiz shrugged. “I’m not talking about that anymore,” he said. “I have no comment.””
No live special on MLB Network? No sit down interview with Peter Gammons? Will the media accept “No comment”?
Of course JP will try to play Cash adn Theo against each other. If he didn’t, he’d be surely fired. We’ll see how serious each team is… I believe the Sox would rather get VMart over Halladay… lower asking price.
I’ve been saying Papi used no one believed me when I said he & Manny did it, guys soon Pujols will be found out too. There are alot of players you don’t know are on that list or not and are using.

No, I am sorry. I am trying to stick to the actual rules I set for this game to avoid line up chaos. The window for “Guess the Line Up” for games are as follows (weekdays only):
7pm starts= 2pm-3:40
8pm starts= 3pm-4:40
10pm starts- 5pm- 6:40
1pm starts- 9-10am
Sorry, I can’t allow early line ups- but I do have a well paying job that has absolutely nothing to do with the Yankees. I am afraid if I start making exceptions everyone will do it and I will miss line ups and people will get angry with me.
What was it that David Ortiz said a while ago? HE SAID PLAYERS GETTING CAUGHT SHOULD BE BANNED. Well, It was nice knowing ya david.
I really don’t care who is on “the list.”
However, I would like to see the entire list exposed so that we don’t have to talk about this steroids crap anymore.
I hope Pujols is not on the list. He’s an all around good guy and will probably finish his career as one of the top 5 players to ever play the game. His production has never dropped off like Papis did.
Cash, lol – I’m antsy because I know the Yankees need a pitcher and a couple of other tweaks to really solidify their chances. I’d be shocked if Cash didn’t do anything….. This is the most “nervous” I’ve been around a trading deadline in a long time, lol.
The Yanks pitching has been brilliant since the ASB. It’s easy for me to see their flaws because I follow them every day, but other teams also have their flaws. It’s nice to see the Sox aren’t perfect – the back end of their rotation isn’t so hot and their pen has been struggling for awhile.
“I hope Pujols is not on the list. He’s an all around good guy and will probably finish his career as one of the top 5 players to ever play the game. His production has never dropped off like Papis did.”

Reminds of the time Paul O’Neill could suddenly hit in his early-mid thirties.
Don’t know if it’s credible, but I read that Cashman asked for a call late in the “process” to see if there’s mutual interest.
And, right now, Boston’s got a big PR fire to put out.
ESPNews is reporting it right now.
Can someone pull up Bip Jokey’s comments about how players should be kicked out if they cheat?
Benny Blanco,

angel berroa tearing up the NL East! lmaooo
While I am feeling a sense of vindication by seeing this Ortiz and Manny being on the list, I am very disturbed that yet again lawyers are ignoring the seal order on the list, circumventing the law, and talking about these players.
I was upset over A-Rod being leaked illegally, even though I think this information should come out.
I think the slow leaking of the names is far worse for MLB and the players, rather than just coming to a decision that all the names be released. That is something that the players union would have to do, unless the court unseals the list.
I also think that those lawyers who are leaking this stuff out should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Hiding behind reporters to push their agendas rather than respect the law is just plain wrong.
“Screw you KC, that move doesn’t even make sense for them!”
boooooo….
This is big news that can’t be swept under the rug, and certainly puts the proclamations that the Boston championships weren’t tainted.
Certainly a valid, timely topic worthy of discussion.

What about George Mitchell who left these guys off and was getting their autographs. and Bud Selig who allowed this intentionally!!!!!
Say goodbye to your cheap Hall of Fame weekend Jim Rice… He’s angry too.
Hmmmmm…
Remember the “list” circulating a few weeks ago that Pete A and the rest said was a fake?
Guess it’s not a fake, is it?
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07.....ref=sports
Seems like Papi was introduced to the juice in Fenway, from the evidence we can see…
Greenies are often equated with steroids. Same thing. No difference. As such the “steroid era” is over rated because there’s always been performance enhancing drugs in the game.
I’d be interested in seeing how many players careers were turned around by greenies the way steroids likely did for Papi?
Papi had season that weren’t just great – they were close to historically great.
During that brief 5 year run of greatness he had he put 2 of the 200 highest single season OPS performances in major league history.
I’d like to know the players that amphetamines did that for? That same magnitude of effect.
Now Papi is hardly alone in this regard. Alex obviously used as well.
I’m just using Papi as an example because the notion that greenies = steroids is implausible because their impact on human biology is not even remotely the same.
And that’s the issue.

I don’t care who’s on it either. “No comment” just doesn’t seem to cut it after Ortiz had plenty of comments when Alex was outed.

That’s fair.
Those who ripped A-Rod publicly through the media deserve a huge backlash if they are exposed as well.
Ortiz is at the top of the list.
“I hope Pujols is not on the list. He’s an all around good guy and will probably finish his career as one of the top 5 players to ever play the game. His production has never dropped off like Papis did.”
If he is will you be that upset?”
More disappointed than upset. I think right now Jeter and Pujols are basically the public relations “good guys” or ambassadors of the sport. I’m a Yankee fan first and foremost but my love for the game of baseball itself is just as strong. I wouldn’t want to see a high profile “good guy” like Pujols or (gasp!) Jeter ever being tied to the list.
think varitek is on that list anywhere? i only wonder cause it would make me that much more made the guy couldnt take off his gear before throwing a slap at other players..
That leaves Corey Patterson.
Grrr @ espn. They hate the Yankees so much they’d allow the names of Boston luminaries to leak out in order to take away their thunder.
Should be an interesting visit to NY next week for Sloppy.
MLB should just release the list in it’s entirety. This slow leaking out of a few names just keeps the steroid nightmare going. Release all of the names and just be done with it. It’s time to move on.
I just texted my friend again and he said he talked to him last night so I guess it wasnt anything we didnt already know. My bad again.

Peter Gammons looks heartbroken on ESPNEWS.
while I HATE the Red Sox as much as the next guy, part of me refuses to take any joy in Ortiz’s name showing up on the list.
He seems like a genuine good guy. Oh well, he put himself in that position, I guess…
let’s see…
Barry Bonds and David Ortiz in their hey-day, the 2 most clutch and dangerous hitters i’ve ever witnessed on a baseball diamond.
but no, steroids don’t really help you hit better
Michael Schmidt is going to get something to NY Times from me. Many flowers and presents for his honesty and fairness
I bet Schilling is ont he list too!! he is a joke!
Gammons is a dope. He said maybe baseball should sit down with the union and talk about possibly releasing the names all at once because the trickle-down effect is far worse. Baseball can’t just do a blanket release of the list, it was confidential.
Michelle Bonner asked how it affects their 2004 WS. Gave a fair enough answer, but then said every team that one for about a 10 yr. period will probably have the same issues.
It’ll be in the espnews loop, catch it if you can.
He did say that blah, blah, blah, (didn’t catch it), gave a ton to the inner city kids, but this may be the beginning of a graceful (?!) exit from Boston for David Ortiz.

Breaking News…
David Ortiz now says he can not speak English.. lol
I think we should all remember the saying those in glass houses……
This is bad for anyone who loves baseball it is not a good thing that they are also on the list. It doesnt make Yankees better because they tested there were Yankees on that list too.
The lawyers who are leaking this list should be disbarred what they are doing is unconscionable. I am not quite sure why they keep leaking names and what they are getting out of it at this point.
Jim Pir-one – thats probably wishful thinking but it is nice to see other guys have to take a hit. not that anyone will care, since it only matters when it happens to the yankees. thats the price we pay for being the only relevant team in the sport.
of all the players ever busted, Manny is the one suprised me the most.
the most natural hitter since Ted Williams. And he was already fairly well-built in high school, wasn’t he?
Best. Quote. Ever.
“I don’t do that anymore because they don’t have the approval for that here, so I know that, so I’m off buying things at the GNC back in the Dominican Republic,” Ortiz told The Boston Herald. He added: “I don’t know if I drank something in my youth, not knowing it.”
..these guys should be doing endorsment deals for GNC.
Im not insulting Tim Kurk jian but he just said that if Ortiz isnt himself, then the Red Sox have problems.
But Ortiz is himself, a loser who needed the steroids
YOU NO BIG PAPI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Where is Olney proclaiming his career dead like he did AROD
Some beat writer talking now on espnews (Michael ?) said that the Yankees were continually battered for being tainted and now…
lol – Gammons trying to find a way to a positive spin on this for his beloved Red Sox.
He thinks this will make them even more likely to make a big trade because they don’t know how this will affect Ortiz for the rest of the season.
The only thing affecting Ortiz is the lack of his Dominican Milkshakes.
“The lawyers who are leaking this list should be disbarred what they are doing is unconscionable. I am not quite sure why they keep leaking names and what they are getting out of it at this point.”
Umm, Money. Probably lots of it.
The revelation of A-Rod’s PED use came before spring training.
The “furor” had months to blow over, and then some, because he was out with a hip injury.
When he came back into the fold, the circus tent had folded up and the transition was relatively seemless.
With Ortiz, he’s got a game at Fenway in oh, about 45 minutes. Good luck with that.
Robbykid July 30th, 2009 at 12:48 pm
They should take back the 2004 Red Sox Championship Crown!
=================
Guess we should take back the 1999 and 2000 rings from the Yanks?
Or was it ok since it wasn’t illegal in MLB?
This leaking of this information is horrible. I don’t care that its Manny and David. Its wrong.
So how did the Mitchell report miss these two?
“Guess we should take back the 1999 and 2000 rings from the Yanks?
Or was it ok since it wasn’t illegal in MLB?”
——-
Thank you. I don’t understand any Yankee fan getting gleeful about this.
Just another knock for baseball.
If I had the dough, I’d buy a building in Cooperstown (adjacent to the HOF, if possible) and open up The Hall of Shame.
in the general scheme of everything…
aren’t basically all the players on HGH now, anyways?
cuz that is the part i don’t get?

Agreed. Not good for baseball in general and faith in the legal system as well.
The judge who has the gag order in place is the one who needs to start putting people under oath and asking questions.
Steroids aside, there is a much bigger issue here.
Check out this extensive coverage by ESPN.com News Services:
“Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003, lawyers with knowledge of the results told The New York Times.
The two were key members of the Boston Red Sox World Series teams in 2004 and 2007.”
“of all the players ever busted, Manny is the one suprised me the most.
the most natural hitter since Ted Williams. And he was already fairly well-built in high school, wasn’t he?”
really? he surprised you? the guy that surprised me was Al he was so good that he didn’t need it, yet did it b/c it was “the thing to do” at the time. Young & stupid.
“So how did the Mitchell report miss these two?”
George Mitchell had ties to the Boston Red Sox (this was common knowledge). There was an obvious conflict of interest, but not much was made of it.
Ortiz gave an excuse in advance a long time ago. Protein shakes.
But that doesn’t wash with me. He knew he tested positive. Alex, Manny, & Ortiz making it look like anyone from the DR or who trains there in the offseason is guilty.
Remember when Gammons and ESPN tried to say Manny only used with the Dooooodgers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“theyre supposed to remain anonymous” waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Can you smell that? Something is cooking up in Boston but I can’t quite make it out. It’s either Humble Pie or Crow. Either way, they’ll be eating alot of it in New England.
>When he came back into the fold…
…he hit a first-pitch HR.
Awesome.
So can we get Dukey or Washy already. And please add Morry or Lowey to it.
“don’t understand any Yankee fan getting gleeful about this”
relax. A few posters commenting on a baseball player, is not going to adversely effect the world
Damn, me being born in the Dominican Republic, makes me feel embarrassed to even root for them. I mean come one 4 names out all Dominican. Makes me think about Pujols now. He’s Dominican. Hopefully hes clean, but i wouldn’t be surprised.
m -
He set up his excuse in advance. I knew it for 7 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This weight is lifted off my chest!!!!!!!!!
The only thing that makes this better is if Curt Schilling’s name comes up. He caused his son an illness with his usage. He hurt a poor child.
How can people not be gleeful about this? After all the crap we’ve taken from Red Sox fans who were certain their team would never be tainted? How can you not be happy to see this thrown back in their faces?
•ESPN’s Jayson Stark tosses in this nugget: the Marlins made a run at Roy Halladay but balked at an asking price that included Cameron Maybin and Mike Stanton.
And I want to know if Selena Roberts knew. She said she saw the entire list, no?
So why was Alex the only story? Because he was the only one in her “sight”?
“The only Yankee that used as a Yankee was Andy Pettitte.
The whole Red Sox team was using!!!”
Roger?
Stevee Phillips is calling them out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Can you smell that? Something is cooking up in Boston but I can’t quite make it out. It’s either Humble Pie or Crow. Either way, they’ll be eating alot of it in New England”
if it can be made into a chowdah, they’ll prolly like it
•The Royals would like to move the contract of southpaw reliever Ron Mahay (.274/.292/.468 against lefties). He’s got about $1.5MM left.
I KNEW IT!!!!!!!!!!!
“How can people not be gleeful about this? After all the crap we’ve taken from Red Sox fans who were certain their team would never be tainted? How can you not be happy to see this thrown back in their faces?”
It is great that it is now out in the open, but honestly if anybody though Poopy wasn’t using PEDs then they need to open their eyes.
Here come the rumors, from Ed Price’s twitter:
Source: BlueJays trying to get RedSox to take Alex Rios (signed thru 2014) as part of Halladay deal
Vinny, I don’t need to relax. I’m hanging out with the day off. You seem to be the one wound tight that you need to respond to my one post generic post.
Ortiz was so arrogant that he’d never be outed by Mitchell or the Red Sox media. He said that users should be banned!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where are you now Poopi
I’m not happy about Ortiz.
I actually called this back during the “Mitchell Report” when Ortiz kinda came out in defense of PED users saying that he might have taken a substance accidentally because the Dominican does not have strict FDA type rules like they do in the US. i said that statement alone should have him under suspicion but I was laughed off two message boards.
BWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
Dan Shaughnessy is on ESPN2 crying!!!
What a joke the Mitchell Report was. It missed 3 of the 4 biggest players in baseball (Ortiz, Manny, Arod).
How can people not be gleeful about this? After all the crap we’ve taken from Red Sox fans who were certain their team would never be tainted? How can you not be happy to see this thrown back in their faces?
I’m happy is the Redsox. I’m just not happy that all the names to come out are all from the same country. Its going to taint a lot of hard work of all the young kids trying to get signed. its going to taint the whole country.
Gammons better not sugarcoat this story.
Can we make Papi sit through multiple interviews and a huge freakin press conference similar to a Salem witch hunt? Can we make him take an hour’s worth of questions on every detail of his usage? Can we still be all over him after he admits to more BY FAR than any other person who was caught?
Can we please????
If not, can we admit that what A-Rod went through a whole lot more guff for the same crime as other similarly iconic baseball players?
Well Ortiz being juiced is no surprise as I’m sure the juice started rolling in 1995 & 1996 with the Red Sox when Canseco introduced it to them. (Note Nixon, Nomar, Clemens, Mo Vaughn, Kevin Mitchell were on the 1996 team with Canseco.) In 2004 IMO, the following were juiced:
Nomar (Traded), Nixon, Varitek, Ortiz, Kapler, Bellhorn, Mueller, Millar, Manny & Schilling.
Perhaps some others as well!
Jim Pir-one is the only one doing backflips (literally!).
This is news, however. If people don’t want to read about Ortiz, steroids, or Halladay, they might want to avoid the blog today.
I only care that Alex is in a great place right now, with a huge burden of truth lifted off his shoulders. He looks like he escaped the burning house with relatively few burns.
you have to wonder how long the Times had this info….Kinda of werid they release this info on Papi a couple of weeks after the Times sell their shares of the Red Sox
Oritz batting 5th today, by the way.
2004* 2007* !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re getting a record number of comments today, Pete.
How hypocritical does Sox nation look now after their “you use steroids” chant to Arod.
Now they have a current/former juicer on their team. The Mitchell Report was quite a joke. As if the Yankees where the only ones doing it.
Slowly where seeing many former RS/long time RS players that where juicers; Nomar Mo Vaughn Manny Ortiz and my suspicions- Pedro.
“George Mitchell had ties to the Boston Red Sox (this was common knowledge). There was an obvious conflict of interest, but not much was made of it”
yup. And today’s news is irrefudible evidence of this fact.
Lets face it guys, no ones really gonna care about this. There wont be any sit down interviews with Big Papi, no press conferences, probably not even a general statement. When all this stuff happened with Manny, not long after Alex was outted, he just hid. Oritz will do the same, which based on his batting average shouldnt be too hard.
WOOOOHOOOO!!!
Skip Bayless looked like he was going to commit suicide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He was defending them!!!!
Their tails are between their legs.
THANK YOU MICHAEL SCHMIDT!! The weight off my chest has been lifted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Olney said talks between Pads & Sawx to resume today after they talked at length last night.
Wow. Boston’s going to pay through the nose to clean up the poopi.
Times reporter to be on Cowherd
This isn’t surprising! Stop acting surprised!
gayle,
I agree. Yankee fans should not be gloating. The yanks have had more than their fair share of stains. And this is another sad chapter for baseball.
But one complicating factor for Ortiz and for Boston is they way they moralized about this issue- ortiz especially. There are so many quotes and interviews from him moralizing about steroids and how he was clean.
Same thing for many Sox fans after the mitchell report and the news on Alex.
The scope of the reaction to this is going to be driven by the fact they were using.
But part of it’s intensity will be in reaction to the morzalizing, finger wagging attitudes involved.
You were write about glass houses…
Why are people surprised about this? Do you think that Boone was clean when he hit that homerun off Wakefield? Or Posada who is 38 and his legs look like tree trunks and he is breaking down? I wouldnt be surprised if Pujols in on steroids too.
This also has to put leverage against the Sox in trade discussions.
They can be held over the barrel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But probably wont be

It is surprising that he got outed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was thinking will the Red Sux fans scream Steriods at Ortiz tonight like they did when I went to A-Rods first game at Fenway this year?
I love it all these Sux players coming out on the list… All these years of my Sux friends telling me they were clean and that Giambi stole the 2003 World Series from them cuz he was on the juice.
I LOVE IT!!!!!
“the notion that greenies = steroids is implausible because their impact on human biology is not even remotely the same.”
Nobody says that the biological effects of greenies equals the biological effects of steroids.
Some argue that the morality of taking steroids (or lack there of) equals the morality of taking greenies. Essentially, if you rip on people that take steroids you have to condemn amphetamine users as well.
Poopi father visited him from the Dominican!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and then he started hitting HRs again!!!
wonder what happened!!!!!!!!!
Hey RSN
Pot. Meet kettle.
Funny how the Times put this out AFTER they announced they are selling their stake in the Sox.

Bud Selig should ask for some money back from senator Mitchell. It’s like paying a kid to mow your lawn and getting half the job done.
But, I thought Manny didn’t start using until he got to LA? Paging Mr. Mitchell: your report needs some editing and a dose of credibility.
Colin Cowherd and Steve Phillips were talking about Ortiz’s prior comments about how players who test positive should be suspended for a year, and that he would never take PEDs because it would be an insult to his fans, etc. Loser.
Ray -
YOURE RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Gammons better not sugarcoat this story.”
Gammons knew it. Early in the yr. he said that the end of the line is up for Papi, he knew it. He just covered it up also.
Tainted or not they beat us in 04′ like we did in 03′ , right now Theo lost alot of leverage for trades. Doc isn’t going to Boston or NY, and Adrian Gonzalez is a fantasy, Victor Martinez won’t be cheap. Theo and John “I twit” Henry can’t be happy about this.
Matty C,
The Sawx fans will be supportive.
Remember when Ortiz was slumping? They cheered him and he eventually “turned it around”.
How will the Yankee fans react? Ortiz deserves to be crapped on to the fullest extent because of how Alex was treated. But the whole glass houses thing kind of gets in the way.
Gammons sounds like his dog just got sick…
Papi on the Juice ! ..
let’s just wait for the Pete post about how Yankee fans are happy about this but are hypocrites that cheer Arod!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly I don’t care that Ortiz did steroids. It doesn’t taint the 2004 and 2007 championships.
“Source: BlueJays trying to get RedSox to take Alex Rios (signed thru 2014) as part of Halladay deal”
This is where the entire process was headed from the start.
JP needs to derive value from Halladay.
He can get the value in talent.
Or he can monetize that value through salary relief.
And salary relief is a definite, 100% certain source of value.
Prospects aren’t.
The market has collapsed on Roy.
This is going to get down to money, as it usually does.
Gammons cries gin soaked tears outside the Old North Church. News at 11.
YES! AT LAST!
this is WONDERFUL news!
the BOSTON ROID SOX.
Now we know why Ortiz is GARBAGE now, and why he popped up last night!
Where is the book? Someone get Selena Roberts to investigate this. I am sure Ortiz tips less then 15% at hooters when he goes. We need to get to the bottom of this.
Only way to get out of this is for Ortiz to stand up and sit out a year like he said the punishment should be.
David Oritz just spoke out against PEDs earlier this year.
“I think you clean up the game by testing…You test positive, you’re going to be out. Period,” Ortiz said Monday after the first day of workouts.
Ortiz said he wants every player to be tested three or four times a year. Anyone who fails one of those tests will face a harsh suspension, which Ortiz feels will help clean up the game.”
what an absolute FRAUD!!
At least post-roids A-Rod is still hitting and still a major talent. Papi is being exposed this year for the hack that he really is.
Of course not Patrick the Prospect Hugger -
but it’s said about other cheating teams.
So why not??? 2004!!!!!!!******* 2007********

Save your sad song for the RS forum Christina. Sorry your team was full of a bunch of cheating juicers just like everyone else!!!!

what a pity for Ortiz….
the Sox go to Yankee Stadium next week
turnabout (steroid chants) is fair play?
The weight of Ortiz’ lies and arrogance are off my chest!!!!!!!!!!!!
Only on YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
““Source: BlueJays trying to get RedSox to take Alex Rios (signed thru 2014) as part of Halladay deal””
Why the heck are we not in on this? Take Rios, and offer a sufficient package however no Hughes/Jobber.
man, tough times for peeps like Christina25.
the more she lashes out, the more you know she’s hurting deep inside.
have some sympathy
Dan,
Your team was full of steroids too. I wouldnt be surprised if Matsui was doing them too.
LOL
Come on. Out Tek PEdro Schill and NIxon and Bellhorn and Mueller and Roberts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today is not the day to be deflecting.
Lick your wounds just like we all did.

Sure they did. It’s been said all of the time. All the time.
CB,
the Sox may have more money to spend than the Yanks, no?
You know Veritek is on them . The List should just come out already
forgot,
millar that piece of scum….Nomahhhhhhhhh Orlanda Cabrera Pokey Reese ALL OF EM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TIMLIN FOULKE!!!! LESKANIC!!!!!!!!!
“turnabout (steroid chants) is fair play?”
I hope not. Hypocrisy is never pretty.
Ortiz spoke out so strongly against steroids. That’s why this feels so good. What a clown. He doesn’t deserve anything in terms of honors, HOF, NOTHING.
The only guy i would be surprised at is
Schilling
because he is so adamant, that would be it for his phoniness and help of charities.
1st best thing that can happen: Halliday goes to the NL.
2nd best: he stays in Toronto.
but in no way should the yankees mortgage the future buy gutting the farm (or the team) for Halliday !even if it means he goes to Boston! let Boston gut their future and their team for short term benefit.
just say no to Halliday.
Come on Schill. Wheres 38pitches!!! post about all your clean guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!

“Dan,
Your team was full of steroids too. I wouldnt be surprised if Matsui was doing them too.”
If you could have read through tear filled eyes I stated that I’m sorry your team was filled with juicers just like EVERYONE else.
You can continue naming everyone on the Yankees roster now.
“CB,
the Sox may have more money to spend than the Yanks, no?”
Really? When do they ever? The Yanks can say what they want about the economy, no one here seriously believes if all it took was cash to get Halladay that he wouldnt be getting fitted for his uniform right now. If it really does come down to cash, I like our chances.
Al,
It’s a win/win for the Yankees. Yes, getting Rios/Halladay would be a good move.
But, we’re a good team already. Playing very good baseball. Won’t say great because there’s too many defensive lapses. And we do have flaws in the pen and a hole in the rotation.
But this team survived a very rough start without Alex. Wang was not right. And Jorge was out, too. Somehow this team finds a way to win, and that makes the team stronger.
“Matty C,
The Sawx fans will be supportive.
Remember when Ortiz was slumping? They cheered him and he eventually “turned it around”.”
———–
m,
Sox fans wanted the guy out of town.
They might not have been booing at Fenway, but the talk of the town was “what happened to Ortiz” and “how can we get rid of a DH who is still owed over $20M?”
“Sure they did. It’s been said all of the time. All the time.”
By whom? I’ve never seen that argument.
Steroids =/= Amphetamines, anyone that says the effects are the same is stupid.
I want to hear about some other guys no on the Sox or Yankees for a change, BTW. Can’t wait until Puholes is outed.
really baseball just needs to bite the bullet and release the list and any other thing out there………b/c baseball keeps getting negative publicity once a month
CB, You just knew that Rios / Wells names would come into play ……No surprise
according to Colin Cowherd Clemens was on the 1998 Yankees
Really Show me where?
IDIOT
“The List should just come out already”
The Players Union will never let that happen and they are idiots because of it. How can this leaking out of names every couple of months be good for the game? When’s the next leak? During the World Series? Put the names out there so that the sport can move on.
Boston Dave,
I dont have a tough time with it. I was suspecting it for a long time now. I think 80% pf the players did steroids.
I have to say I am pretty elated right now. Now, Red Sox fans can feel the pain we Yankee fans get when players from their team took steroids. Bitter sweet this news is. Gammons might cry. Oh, and lets not forget about our old friend on Twitter! Ha,ha,ha!!!!
I do find it incredible that the NY Times sells their interest in the Roid Sox and then release Big Pappi’s name. Personally I find it sad that anyone individual’s name is released without all of them or none of them.
The most disturbing part is the George Mitchell report which had ths information and neglected to address it but tossed some folks under the bus (Yankee linked). Probably under the best interest of the game.
Pete Rose was heard to say, “I bet 72½% of the players were on roids.” It is a mockery given the ROIDS info that Pete is still left to toss in limbo.
the worst part is, this was a conspiracy. a crime!!!
Buster Gammons Buccigross Simmons ESPN FOX Joe Buck they all knew it. Every newspaper knew it. But nobody would report it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They knew it the whole time. they covered it all up.
Expect the Red Sox to trade for Victor or Adrian now and deplete a little bit of their farm. They have to now I think…and the other teams have the upper hand in those discussions. This is a win/win day. Ortiz and Manny used in Boston, and Boston will be forced to trade their young studs for a big bat
“Why the heck are we not in on this? Take Rios, and offer a sufficient package however no Hughes/Jobber”
This is the reason from Sherman: Hal Steinbrenner has ruled that the team cannot take on significant money the rest of the season. That is a huge reason why the Yanks are not players on Roy Halladay
““CB,
the Sox may have more money to spend than the Yanks, no?”
Really? When do they ever? The Yanks can say what they want about the economy, no one here seriously believes if all it took was cash to get Halladay that he wouldnt be getting fitted for his uniform right now. If it really does come down to cash, I like our chances.”
———-
The Yanks dropped over $60M annually for AJ,CC, and Tex.
The Sox had plenty of money to spend but only dropped about $10M.
It’s entirely possible that the Sox can outmuscle the Yanks right now in terms of $$.
I’m sure hte Yanks could muster up the cash, but the Sox may be more willing to spend it.
I could be wrong… but it’s not an automatic this time, IMO.
“Your team was full of steroids too. I wouldnt be surprised if Matsui was doing them too”
a little bird says: Matusi says no to juice. And yes to porn
I don’t know why I still follow baseball. This is a disgrace. How many other players took steroids? Does any one have “any” natural ability?
By the way,
Ortiz is just fat
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Boston Dave,
I dont have a tough time with it. I was suspecting it for a long time now. I think 80% pf the players did steroids.”
———-
I agree (maybe not 80% but you could be right).
Which makes the criticism of Clemens, ARod, etc in the media even more disgusting.
Why blame individuals for a problem that pretty much everyone knew was a league-wide thing??
IDK what’s dumber fans that think just b/c Rios is added that JP sells low or fans that believe JP is going to discount Doc, if he doesn’t get the deal he is looking for he can do it all over again next yrs. trade deadline.
Patrick,
They say greenies helped past generations of players just like steroids helps this generation, so it’s no different.
About a hundred people wrote that so they could justify Alex’s stupid decisions he made in his youth.
It’s a dumb argument in the first place, but it doesn’t stop people from using it.
Tom caron just said “were going to find out why only these 2 names were mentioned in this report.
how is the latest revelation suprising in anyway. now 4 out of 103 are out there. it was unfair when they leaked arods name and it is still unfair for big poopy and manram.
ortiz was on the scrap heap from minny a great plyer eval and development organization, he become a monste rpowe rhitter…I wonder how???
Manram got caught this year, you think he just started taking it???????????
tons and tons of players took them, is this really a suprise..brady anderson is the poster boy….
poopy is a phony nothing player, arod dissapoints me he did not need them and was great with out them…..
jeter did not take them, oneil did not take them but tons of guys did. you think danny tartabull didn’t?? get real people… the sux cheated just like every other team and that is not suprisisng….
the thing is the Yankees have another $60 mill a year coming off the books in the offseason….Matsui, Damon, Nady, Molina, Pettitte……
“what a pity for Ortiz….
the Sox go to Yankee Stadium next week
turnabout (steroid chants) is fair play?”
I’m sure it’ll happen, I hope it doesn’t. A-Rod on the steroids list was a much bigger and more embarassing story.
Let’s not be hypocrites like David Ortiz here.
I think baseball already has their black eye. I don’t think its possible to make it any blacker. So to me more names don’t change a thing.
What’s funny, and what I love about all this is how Papi was going on and on about how “everyone should be tested” and how terrible steroids are all on his high horse. I can not WAIT to hear what his reaction to this report is…that will be must see TV!
I’m not sure who he thought he was fooling.
“I don’t know why I still follow baseball. This is a disgrace. How many other players took steroids? Does any one have “any” natural ability?”
————
they need to go back and give David Eckstein the MVP from 2001 on.
I dont believe for a second that the Yanks would be looking at money issues considering all those guys coming off the books…i didnt mean $60 i was exaggerating btw…but its still a large sum
Brandon,
If you thought like a GM, and not like a fan, you wouldn’t be calling anyone stupid for saying anything.
Lowell was a throw-in for Beckett. Happens all the time. That’s how you get of players & contracts.
hard to believe 20 years ago JR Richards career basically ended.Great story
http://www.astrosdaily.com/fil.....chard.html
*get rid of players & contracts.
“I’m sure it’ll happen, I hope it doesn’t. A-Rod on the steroids list was a much bigger and more embarassing story.
Let’s not be hypocrites like David Ortiz here.”
————–
the only reason Ortiz deserves to be booed is because of his comments in February.
how does that fatso have the gall to rip players for using PEDs if he used them himself?
if you cheated, dont rip others for cheating. period.
boo him long. and boo him hard!
So now that 04 comeback is not that special.
And George Mitchell? When do we start questioning this guy? At the time this report came out, you couldn’t criticize this him because of his credibility but now what? Manny and Ortiz? Right under his nose? Did Mitchell have a cold because I can smell that from here.
“Lowell was a throw-in for Beckett. Happens all the time. That’s how you get of players & contracts.”
——-
m is right.
The Marlins demanded that the Sox take Lowell.
Lowell had negative value at the time because of his contract.
if u guys wanna watch teh red sox game it will be shown on mlb network shoudl be a crazy scene
Papi is still signed thru next season. With his production what will they do with him next year?
Boston Dave,
I get your logic, but these are the Yankees. I just cant imagine having a possible Cy Young winner, one of the best pitchers in baseball right now, on the table and having Hal go “eh.. ya know what, we dont need to spend the money.” I understand if prospects are involved depending on who they are we wont make a deal. But if this comes down to being strictly financial then he better be shaving that beard now. We said we were done after CC and AJ and we went and got Tex, whats a few more million? Now that those Legends seats are starting to fill out a bit, I bet we can afford most of the Blue Jays staff.
“Lowell was a throw-in for Beckett. Happens all the time. That’s how you get of players & contracts.”
*My head hurts*
The deal had Hanley Ramirez and Anibal Sanchez, not exactly cheap commodities there.
“If you thought like a GM, and not like a fan, you wouldn’t be calling anyone stupid for saying anything.”
I’d call ppl here alot worse if I were.
I’m not gloating at all, but it’s nice that Alex is not out there by himself now.
I can’t believe that the Sox may actually get Halladay and the Yankees are just going to sit by. If they let that happen, then ……I don’t know what to say. They wouldn’t let Tex go to the Sox, but they don’t mind Doc going? The Sox will have a lock on the division for years and will be the WS favorites for that long. Hal is going to let this happen? He’s not his father’s son for sure

the heart and soul of the SOx are all CHEATS!! Just like the Pats and SPYGATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats how you win in Boston. CHEAT BABY!!!!!!!!
“And George Mitchell? When do we start questioning this guy? At the time this report came out, you couldn’t criticize this him because of his credibility but now what? Manny and Ortiz? Right under his nose? Did Mitchell have a cold because I can smell that from here”
the morrow of the story: never trust a politician. Particuarly, a US Senator
It’s funny how when Ortiz signed his extension it was looked at like an absolute bargain….not any more.

you have to wonder how long the Times had this info….Kinda of werid they release this info on Papi a couple of weeks after the Times sell their shares of the Red Sox
——————————
The Times has not sold its shares of the RS yet. They announced that they are planning to sell them by the end of this year. Credit the Times with running this article despite knowing it could devalue their shares prior to sale. However, if they never owned those shares in the first place there would be no conflict at all.
““Why the heck are we not in on this? Take Rios, and offer a sufficient package however no Hughes/Jobber”
This is the reason from Sherman: Hal Steinbrenner has ruled that the team cannot take on significant money the rest of the season. That is a huge reason why the Yanks are not players on Roy Halladay”
If Halladay goes to the sox for a weak package and the only reason we didn’t get him is money I will be incredibly disappointed with ownership.
“the Sox may have more money to spend than the Yanks, no?”
Short term – absolutely. No question. They are way under expected pay roll for this year.
Long term – now that’s the big question. And 5 years of Alex Rios is tough to swallow – especially when your organizations greatest strength in the minors right now is probably toolsy, athletic outfielders.
That hasn’t been part of Henry/ Theo’s vaunted organizational model.
That’s the real question here with Rios and Halladay being joined at the hip.
The Red Sox will have to change the way they’ve historically done business. They will have to change their organizational model.
They’ll have to swallow some pride because it will be admitting that they are now acting much more like the yankees have.
Will they?
By the way guys,
Im not gloating! I dont go on ESPN or Red Sox boards insulting them. Im just happy that the truth about this is finally out. Because were the only team that get insulted throughout the media.!!!!!!!!!!!!!
betsy, I guarantee you that it’s smoke. JP isn’t stupid enough to make that deal, he’d be smart to hold Doc till next trade deadline & find a sucker who is desperate, a team being 2.5 or 2.5 games back of a division or wild card race will be just as desperate.
Gammons on ESPN.
I don’t know what Cash is doing, but he’s letting players that could help the Yankees go to other teams……. maybe Hal really has put on the clamps. This has the earmarks of a very disappointing deadline….
Gammons is such a joke.
Gammons said that winning in 2007 takes a little bit of suspicion away from 2004!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still spinning the truth Gammons
Jose Conseco’s book pretty much is 100% accurate thus far.
ESPN will probably report that A-Rod gave Ortiz those special shakes.
the Yankees are worth 1.6 Bil in this economy.
The important thing is the Yankees have the naturally best, most classy, and most clean player in the game.
I look forward to hearing the “1918!” chants revived next time the Sox visit the Stadium:)
this should close the case on Washburn:
“I am not giving this guy away. He is a valuable piece to us. He shouldn’t come cheap if he is moved. No one in the league is pitching better than (Washburn). So if we move him, we need to get good pieces. Because if we keep him he is a very, very good piece for us.”

I am AWESOME!!!
Hey everybody – long time, no chat. Been every busy getting my business off the ground the last several months, but I’m going to try to get back into the swing of posting here.
Couple of quick hits in trying to get caught up -
Brandon, I believed Ortiz was on the juice all along as well.
I won’t celebrate it, but at the same time it is true that he has put himself in a unique light with his past comments on the issue.
Betsy – I read the comments yesterday. You are a fine contributor to these discussions and I agree with others that you should just ignore the idiots. Oh, and put me down for 107 wins.
I’ll jump in on the trade talk as I post more. Hope people even remotely remember me at this point. lol
I guess this makes Jose Molina a Hall-of-Famer.
As a diehard Yankees fan, I can see why people feel the glee in the outing of Papi and manny… however, you can’t be a yankees fan without being a baseball fan, and as such, I find no joy in the outing of anyone. The steroids plague just keeps drowning the entire sport and lessens the achievements of others. At this point, I would be in favor of one of two things… a) burning the report and moving forward or b) releasing all the names, let it burn itself out and then move on. This slow leak is just dampening the flame of my passion for this game and if it continues, I’m afraid it’s going to blow it out altogether.
Right now Gammons is apologizing on behalf of RSN, saying, “hey everybody does it”
HA!
Josh Willingham Pulled From Lineup
With all those beans in Boston it is hard to smell anything even if it is under your nose.
The Patriots cheated and won!
The Roid Sox cheated and won!
It is disgusting! Chumptown USA.
Boston….where cheaters prosper
(See Pats, RS)
NEW THREAD!
“I look forward to hearing the “1918!” chants revived next time the Sox visit the Stadium:)”
Now that chant would be awesome! Let’s bring it back!

++++
I’d hold off on any predictions of player cleanliness at this point… given the situation, you may end up swallowing them at some point.

Ladies & Gentleman my PR puppet.
RayVT-
You MUST resubmit your line up when I actually start the game at 3 today. No early submissions!!!!!
I am trying to stick to the actual rules I set for this game to avoid line up chaos. The window for “Guess the Line Up” for games are as follows (weekdays only):
7pm starts= 2pm-3:40
8pm starts= 3pm-4:40
10pm starts- 5pm- 6:40
1pm starts- 9-10am
I can’t allow early line ups Ihave a well paying job that has absolutely nothing to do with the Yankees. I need to do work sometimes. I am afraid if I start making exceptions everyone will do it and I will miss line ups and people will get angry with me.
Shame Spencer,
I agree…
it’s just not a slam dunk that the Yanks outmuscle the Sox with $$$ this time.
The Sox pocketed a bunch of money by not signing any big contracts this year (and by switching to Geico).
Perhaps the Halladay/Rios sweepstakes is an even playing field this time.
“Josh Willingham Pulled From Lineup”
Stiff neck according to mlbtr twitter
Gloat!
Gloat!
Gloat!
Gloat!
even bigger than ESPN –
a) will Pete rip Manny and Ortiz as much as he did ARod
b) will Pete apologize for ripping ARod and accept that almost everybody did it
c) will Pete skate past the issue and say it’s in the past
d) other?
so far it’s “a”
good job Pete!
“Gammons said that winning in 2007 takes a little bit of suspicion away from 2004!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still spinning the truth Gammons”
What puts the lie to that is Manny being suspended THIS year for illegal drug use that has ties to steroids. Why would he be using in 2003 and 2009 and not all the years in between?
Why the big downturn from Ortiz? Not to mention the captain, as his name isn’t out there… at least not yet.
The only positive that this does – for me as a Yankee fan – is it ends the spewing of the RS fans who kept saying that their team was clean.
None were totally clean. None.
I do agree with Gammons about releasing all the names. It needs to come from the players union and be pushed by those who are clean to just get it all over with.
Having it hang over everything is bad. While I doubt it caught every user, it would help put this behind them.
Personally, I’m sorry to read about the Ortiz revelations.
All the Red Sox Nation vs. Yankees Universe skirmishes over who juiced more are pretty pathetic. The fact is that the whole sport was compromised in any number of ways. The clean guys will be unfairly tainted and some dirty guys will get away with it. Media, fans, ownership, the union… everybody wanted to believe that the game was back and better than ever after the strike.
The “investigation” of steroids use was authorized by a clueless Commissioner, and perpetrated by a greedy, rapacious pol with ties to the Red Sox who had nothing to show for his “fee” until a certain former NYPD cop, alleged date rapist and “trainer” fell into his lap, via IRS CID. The Report was half-arsed and biased, a cut and paste job with no pretense to objectivity. It cost millions and did nothing to end the controversy.
So much of the country is fake, is it any wonder the game was too? It’s too slow, not enough offense… whatever the complaint is. Steroids was Baseball’s boob job. It’s called enhancement at the plastic surgeons’s office too and it’s just as much of a shame there as it is on the baseball diamond. (Not every woman is naturally a 37DD, you know? I think implants look preposterous too, but what do I know….)
Baseball is beautiful naturally and if that’s not good enough for you, you don’t get the game and you’re not a fan. That’s the real tragedy. Nobody says you have to like baseball. But today’s revelations hurt more than satisfy. They start to fill in the blanks, give a better context to the first group of outed players, even Bonds. The picture just keeps getting worse.
It’s time for eveybody to come clean, a truth and reconciliation process. Come forward now and unburden yourself, save the game, get amnesty and go on. Any future positive results equals lifetime ban. Period.
Does it really make a fan feel better to boo or jeer another steroids user? Not me. Not at all.
Colin Cowherd (sp?) is a moron. He thinks 75% of couples cheat on each other and 75% of baseball players are on steroids. He thinks its funny. HA. ESPN is a joke. Francessa was right about that. Of course, when it’s A-rod they crucify him, but when it’s the red sox it’s “but everyone else was doing it!!!” RIGHT cuase that makes it right. Last i checked my mom said two wrongs do not.
murphydog, well said.
