George Steinbrenner was on hand as Joba Chamberlain and the Yankees beat the Rays. That’s three great starts in a row for Joba.

Now that Cliff Lee is with the Phillies, the Yankees could fight with Boston for Roy Halladay. This notebook also has updates on Chien-Ming Wang, a potential roster move, Alfredo Aceves, CC Sabathia, Damaso Marte and Brett Tomko.

If the Sox give up Lars Anderson and Clay for Halladay I think the Yankees win in the long run much like if the Yanks give up Montero and Joba/Hughes.

The Yankees aren’t giving up those players for Halladay.

“Eric Hinske…Remember when Girardi said before the break that he was going to play more? What happened to that?”

    10-2 since the break.

Why mess with a good thing?

Toronto has no interest in Lars Anderson whose progress has stalled at AA. He was expected to be at AAA at this point and shows no reason to be promoted.
Another overrated player by Gammons. Toronto wants Bard included or no deal.

Are the Dodgers still in the picture for Halliday? I had read a couple of weeks ago that they were right up there with Philly, but lately I’ve not seen them mentioned at all.

I hope so. I would love him going to a National League team that way we wouldn’t have to worry about him unless we met them in the World Series.

I know that sound obvious, but if the Sox go after him then we are going to have to compete. Let him go dominate the Senior Circuit.

Not good news about Marte. Two HRs surrendered, topping out at 88mph, doesn’t sound like he’d be much better than Bruney for the Yankees right now. I think a competent bullpen arm is very necessary right now.
