Jeb, one of our readers, published a piece for The Baseball Chronicle on the Topps 1971 set.

According to Sports Illustrated, MLB has discovered that Yankees signee Damian Arredondo is older than 16 and not who he says he is.

The $850,000 deal was contingent on “Arredondo” passing an investigation. Now the player faces suspension.

This is not uncommon when dealing with Latin American prospects. Only recently has MLB started investigating the ages and identities of these prospects. In this case, it saved the Yankees from being swindled.

I’m going to be on ESPN Radio in New York (1050 AM) at 7:40 this evening to talk some Yankees.

Rumor also has it that I’ll be on WFAN in New York (660 AM) tomorrow morning with Kim Jones and Adam The Bull. No time has been determined as of yet.

Damaso Marte pitched today. Glory be. He threw an inning in the Gulf Coast League against the Pirates. His line: 2 hits, 1 earned run, 0 walks, 0 strikeouts, 12 pitches / 11 strikes. He’ll pitch again in the GCL on Saturday.
