STATE OF THE ‘STRIPES: The Yankees have lost the first two games of the series. They have dropped three of their last four and four of their last seven. They start the day leading Boston by 1.5 games in the American League East.
WELCOME TO THE CLUB: INF/OF Jerry Hairston joins the team today. The corresponding move will be announced shortly.
BIG ONE FOR BURNETT: A.J. Burnett is 5-0 with a 3.65 ERA in nine starts after a Yankees loss this season.
GOOD STREAK FOR A.J.: Burnett is 8-2, 2.08 in his last 11 starts. Opponents have hit .209 against him in that stretch. … He is 2-2 with a 2.78 ERA in five career starts against the White Sox.
SWISH SMASH: Nick Swisher is 7 of 22 with four RBI and five extra-base hits in his last six games.
TEX DRIVES THEM IN: Mark Teixeira has eight RBI in the last 10 games.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES: The Yankees are 10 of 47 with runners in scoring position (.213) on the road trip.
ON THE iPOD RIGHT NOW: Six in the Morning by D12.
Back with more later.
UPDATE, 12:32 p.m.: A few more tibits for you …
HINSKE WITH YOUR BEST SHOT: Eric Hinske has had 21 at-bats with the Yankees. They have produced five home runs and seven RBI.
MATSUI MASHES: Godzilla is 7 of 19 on the trip.
POSADA PLUNGES: Jorge Posada is 3 fo 19 on the trip.
MELANCON ON THE RISE: In his last two outings, the rookie right-hander has thrown 3.2 scoreless innings and struck out four.
ACE? NOT SO MUCH: Alfredo Aceves has allowed six runs on six hits in his last two innings. His last six outings: 8.1 innings, 11 hits, 10 earned runs, 4 walks, 4 strikeouts.
More to come later on.
UPDATE, 12:44 p.m.: Shelley Duncan is being optioned down for Hairston.
UPDATE, 2:31 p.m.: The upcoming rotation:
Toronto: Pettitte, Mitre
Boston: Chamberlain, Burnett, Sabathia, Pettitte.
UPDATE, 4:13 p.m.: We’re underway from Chicago, where it’s 69 degrees and overcast.
UPDATE, 4:26 p.m.: Alfredo Aceves is down today but the rest of the bullpen is OK. … The shift in the rotation allows them to avoid using Mitre against Boston and gives Joba some extra days off. They’ll give Joba extra days when they can to cut down his starts and save his innings. … Johnny Damon is feeling OK after smacking into that wall last night. … A-Rod will get a day off or a DH day tomorrow. …
UPDATE, 4:48 p.m.: Burnett just walked the No. 9 hitter with the bases loaded. This has not been a particularly crisp series for the Yanks, has it?
UPDATE, 4:49 p.m.: More bad baseball. Podsednik singles to left and Swisher throws (way late) to the plate, allowing Podsednik to take second. Yankees in big, big trouble here.
UPDATE, 4:51 p.m.: Beckham with a two-run double. 5-0 White Sox and one out in this inning. With no long reliever, Burnett may have to take one for the team here.
UPDATE, 4:52 p.m.: Wow, 6-0 as Dye singles in Beckham.
Well, the good news is the Yankees will still be in first place at the end of the day. The bad news is that they get Mark Buehrle tomorrow.
UPDATE, 5:21 p.m.: Who needs Roy Halladay? The Yankees have Jerry Hairston Jr. All he does is get on base.
UPDATE, 5:57 p.m.: A.J. Burnett twice walked the No. 9 hitter with the bases loaded. That is hard to do. Nix (a .225 hitter) is the only hitter Burnett walked.
Not his day. Now comes Brian Bruney, who has allowed nine runs on 14 hits in his last 6.1 innings. It’s 7-2 Chicago and could get a whole lot worse.
UPDATE, 6:13 p.m.: How is Girardi letting Cody Ransom hit here? Pinch hit Hinske and move Swisher to first. Or Matsui. Or Damon. Somebody.
UPDATE, 6:15 p.m.: Wow. Yankees trail 7-3 as Ransom whiffs again.
UPDATE, 6:36 p.m.: That Tex groundout leaves the Yankees 1-10 with RISP today. They’re down 7-3 and it could be a lot closer.
UPDATE, 6:51 p.m.: Make that 2 for 13 with RISP today. 12 of 60 on the trip.
UPDATE, 7;06 p.m.: How much money do you figure Joe Girardi owes Cody Ransom?
UPDATE, 7:11 p.m.: What is the point of wasting Phil Coke here?
UPDATE, 7:14 p.m.: I need to check this. But the Yankees have allowed 413 runners to take an extra base thanks to ill-advised throws from the outfield in this series. It might be 414.
UPDATE, 7:20 p.m.: It’s not so much that the Yankees are losing, that was bound to happen. But they’re playing a ragged brand of baseball the last three days. Sloppy and inattentive.
UPDATE, 7:25 p.m.: Good idea blowing Coke out in a lost game so he can’t be used tomorrow. It’s 13-4 and and it’s the 10th time this season the Yankees have allowed 10+ runs. Another embarrassment.
UPDATE, 7:35 p.m.: Finally, it’s over. Back in a bit with some reaction.

Big games today and tomorrow. Let’s see what AJ and CC can do. As always, thanks for the good work Pete!
Today would be a great day to see Monseiur Burnett be the YANKEE STOPPER (trademark and all of that).
Just win baby
AJ Burnett the Yankee stopper!
The defense has to be more clean and we’ll be fine, Let’s go Yankees!
hate to say it but our bullpen,looks like were in april all over again.
Glad that Burnett is pitching today. IMO he is the ace of the staff right now and the one starter I trust to snap a loosing streak.
If interested…Last nights game pics…there are about 100 so you have to look through them. Couple nice ones of Mo shagging fly balls, (although the one of him scaling the wall to rob the bp homer didn’t come out), and some of Reggie etc…..
Just to cheer everyone up, this is a litmus test for the Yankees. The BP is fried and Danks and Buehle are top quality pitchers. It’s ironic about Teix and the RBIs, he had terrible at bats the last two games. Swinging from the heels at everything. A Rod was actually 3 fer yesterday. And then there was Posada – it’s probably the worst game I’ve seen him play, just brutal. Normally he is such a quality hitter, not yesterday. Behind the plate, oy. Just for one game Posada – set a target. His glove is six inches off the ground as the pitcher is winding up, drives me crazy.
Burnett has been money since before the ASB.
I expect us to win today, but then again I expect us to win every day, so hey!
Anyone else going today? I’ll be there cheering us on. Love to see AJ feal the no no to the Sox.
GLove, I couldn’t disagree more about trading AJax for Washburn. He doesn’t have to turn into Bernie Williams for the non-trade to be the right move. Trading AJax for a good, but hardly great pitcher (and for 2 months) is the type of move the old Yankee regime used to make. Cash is taking the heat from fans when it either belongs on other teams for the Yankee tax or on Hal…… As I’ve said before, forget how much $$$ he spent in the offseason. That’s when things are rosy and happy. Too bad that things often crop up in the regular season that forces teams to make adjustments……and Hal, if he was not willing to adjust, needs to look himself in the mirror if the Yankees do not make or go deep into the playoffs.
I can see the comments already if AJ struggles – he’s a choker, he was a terrible signing, etc……
His numbers have been absolutely outstanding for a long stretch. He can’t do anything about it if the Yankees don’t hit or they play garbage defense behind him……One thing I love is his ability to wiggle out of james or fight through outings when he’s not his sharpest.
What I want to see today is quality at bats. Nice and simple, I don’t want HR swings, just take what you’re given. Put a charge into the ball. A nice crisp game. These are two quality pitchers coming up and if the Yankees are showboating, they’ll get their heads handed to them.
No Betsy your wrong, Rather AJ has a good start or bad start he’s still my favorite of the Pitching Staff.
He’s not a choker.
Hey Kelvin Says-Congratulations, you’re not a bridge jumper.
One good thing about Burnett pitching is I won’t get that annoyed feeling that the White Sox hitters are sitting on every outside pitching and slapping it for a 2-out hit, like I did last night.
IF AJax is a good 5th OF for his career not getting Washburn in a trade is a good move…
washburn will have 12 starts max. is that worth more then a guy who may play for 8 years on your club…Yankee fans attention span is about 2 minutes.. They panic after ball 1 to the first batter in the first inning….
Yanks win the next two games by shutout. Book it!
Team still is looking solid, although last two games are disturbing. Great pitching on Friday yet 7th inning was killer. Last night you can see what not picking up a #5 starter does, Mitre was just brutal. Too me what is the most disturbing issue is RISP seems like no one can push across runners and I cannot even get starting with Alex, even with the day off this guy is just brutal. Looked at stats on the road where he is a better hitter and he’s just not getting it done. Swinging a terrible pitches to say the least. FINALLY can someone teach this guys to be a little more patient at plate. Against Dotel Cano(my favorite Yankee) first swing out then Jorge the same damn thing. Guys work the count. Go Yanks take the next two enjoy the day off, then head up to Toronto and take two(Halladay will be tough last time out against him we did win though) From Boston I’m on my way to the stadium for the Red Sux series. Bullpen will bounce back.
I think that not getting Washburn only stings because the Tigers got him. If the Mariners had decided to keep Washburn, or even dealt him to the Brewers, then I wouldn’t have minded at all.
But Washburn clearly makes the Tigers better, more than he would have improved the Yankees, and if we ever face Detroit in the postseason they have a nasty 1-2-3 now.
Gosh, I hope we win today. Can’t stand losing streaks. And Chicago, whether they’re good or not, is a .500 team. Unfortunately, we caught them when Quentin is starting to find his groove. And we decided to go with the Bad News Bears’ defense out there.
Betsy,
LOL. Nothing earth-shattering. Just something that Kevin Kernan said on The Monty Show. I don’t want to say anything because I’m superstitious. Besides which, it’s a sensitive subject here on the blog. Win or lose, I will tell you after the game.
Is this a FOX game? I’m probably going to end up with Dodgers/Braves. yeah…
RS worry about the playoffs when they start.
also the tigers offense stinks so yes there big 3 starters are good mainly verlander and jackson but there pen is avg at best and the lineup is poor.
sign me up to play the tigers in the playoffs right now……….
Andrew July 31st, 2009 at 12:29 pm
“Laura the Tigers gave up a very good prospect for Washburn.”
Did they? If they did, there must be a third guy in the deal that nobody knows about that isn’t French or Robles.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sorry, responding to this a bit late and someone may have already addressed it (I didn’t read the 3000+ posts after it) but I just wanted to mention that the “very good prospect” IS Robles…
http://www.detnews.com/article.....for+Tigers
Sorry to see Jarrod go (and more sorry to realize what it actually means for this season) but I understand why they had to do it.
Good luck, Jarrod.
Go Jackie Z.
m, ok – I can wait. Thanks!
Yes, it’s a Fox game – starts at 4 pm EST
mel,
It is a fox game.
Damn I hate Fox broadcasters :/
if thew yanks plan to keep ransom… who goes besides one of the relievers?
Betsy & terry,
Thanks. After a look in the newspaper, it is indeed a Dodgers game. It’s times like this when the west coast bias here bothers me. haha.
Getting ready for Halladay this week and then Mitre against the Red Sox!!!
Eric,
Are you planning a bbq or something? Sounds like you’re really excited!
Haha absolutely…I didn’t realize the Toronto series was only two games, so now I realize that Mitre gets thrown to the Red Sox on Thursday.
The non-moves at the deadline lead me to believe Hughes will be stretched out and swapped with Joba.
Alot has to go right. The Yankees were banking the season on these two answering the call.
Hughes has to make the transition from bullpen to starter and Joba has to get back to being a dominant setup guy.
I think the only problem with Cody Ransom is he’s not playing enough. I say give him 200 or 300 more at-bats before we rush to judge him.
The Yanks should hurry up and sign Jose Molina to a long-term contract before it’s too late. He is easily the best back-up catcher in the history of baseball. I’ve seen him catch the ball nearly every time it’s thrown at him, and you can’t ask for more than that.
There are 29 other teams that would LOVE to have Sergio Mitre pitch every five days. I don’t about all these fancy numbers people are throwing out there (what does a WHIP have to do with baseball, anyway?) All I know is he throws over 90 mph, and that’s pretty damn good.
Eric,
So we miss Halladay? Well, that, in and of itself, is a reason to throw a party!
Too bad it’s not a “Welcome Home” party.
Can’t they skip Mitre’s turn? I would go with anyone else on short rest than him against Boston. They’ll pound him into submission.
I can’t believe he threw away a 3 run lead. I mean the other starters have been guilty of the same thing, but ugh, yesterday’s loss was painful.
If anyone remembers, Kei Igawa picked up a victory over the Red Sox in 2007. Yes, he’s a joke. But why not give him a try on Thursday? What have we got to lose instead of Mitre?
“Haha absolutely…I didn’t realize the Toronto series was only two games, so now I realize that Mitre gets thrown to the Red Sox on Thursday.”
With the off-day on Wednesday, can’t the Yankees skip Mitre’s start?
Saturday- Burnett
Sunday- CC
Monday- off
Tuesday- Joba
Wednesday- Pettitte
Thursday- Burnett
Friday- CC
Saturday- Joba
Sunday- Mitre
Everyone stays on normal rest with this schedule, and I think Mitre would be facing Penny or Smoltz on Sunday, rather than Lester or Beckett.
I want to see Nova instead of Mitre. If McAllister can pitch again this year, I’d like to see him instead of Mitre as well.
I agree with Eric.Just give Igawa a shot.Mitre isn’t working out and he doesn’t deserve another start
R S but then you have Joba going on three days rest…no way will they do that.
Heading out for the day but gotta say…..
Yes, the Yanks are going to face Buehrle, Halladay, et al in the coming week but those teams are going to be facing AJ, CC, Joba and Andy. You can complain about Mitre but do the Sox and Rays really have a solid 1-5 right now?
“Aces” are the opposite prospects. You overvalue everyone elses “Ace” and undervalue your own.
Also, lining Mitre up for Sunday’s start against Boston rather than Thursday gives Cashman an extra few days to find a replacement.
I say skip mitre’s turn in the Boston series, give him one more shot after that. If we don’t make pick up someone via waiver wire, then bring up Igawa for a spot start.
He does deserve another chance, the problem is he’s not on the 40-man.
Joba would have to pitch Sunday if he pitches Tuesday. They will never throw him out there on less than four days rest.
July 18 – CC vs Verlander, Yanks win 2-1
July 19 – AJ vs Edwin Jackson, Yanks win 2-1
July 1 – Pettitte vs Washburn, Yanks win 4-2
I think we still have a good rotation.
“R S but then you have Joba going on three days rest…no way will they do that.”
My bad, I didn’t realize that. Just switch Mitre and Joba then, so Mitre pitches on Saturday, and Joba pitches on Sunday. It’s still better than having Mitre start off the series.
Agreed on that one. Maybe we just don’t like playing teams that end in the word “Sox.” 0-10 against both of them…LOL.
what’s everyone take on Paul Byrd…?
which pitchers are aviable in da waiver thing? any ideas?
Mitre gets no where nears the Sawx on thursday. With Monday’s off day the Yankees have to skip this clown and go with the top four starters for the next six games. That gives Cashman a week to find plan “B” rather than the man with the 7.90 ERA and .400 opponents BA.
How many years does Bronson Arroyo have left on his contract? I could see the Yankees picking him up, but not if they have to commit to him for more than a year.
“I say skip mitre’s turn in the Boston series, give him one more shot after that. If we don’t make pick up someone via waiver wire, then bring up Igawa for a spot start.”
i really don’t think cashman wants to bring up igawa simply because when he most likely doesn’t do well it’ll only remind fans of one of cashman’s colossal mistakes.
i’d let igawa throw 150 pitches a start at triple a to pitch more like he pitched in japan. if it works and he gets the command that he used to have great. if he blows up his arm i don’t see the downside in that since he’s not used anyway.
Bye bye Shelly. or as Brandon would say ‘bam bam’
I would give Mitre another chance when the Yankees go to Seattle and Oakland, two good pitchers’ parks with weak offenses.
But starting him at Yankee Stadium against Boston has to be a no-go. If Cashman can find someone at least decent by then we might actually have the pitching advantage going up against Smoltz or Buchholz.
Could Doug Davis be an option? The Diamondbacks’ GM even mentioned him as one of the players rumored to be traded before the deadline, but said deals could be made in August. Perhaps he’s a guy that they’d put on waivers.
Cody Ransom must have dirt on someone if he stays on this team. Remember, we chose to keep him instead of Nick Green because he is a “great athlete.” Give me a break. Poor Shelley. A guy who brings some energy gets up here for one day.
Arroyo gets $ 11 Mill next year and either $ 11 M or a $ 2 M buyout in 2011. For a guy with a 5.17 ERA in the NL that’s more than a little too much.
No idea if Byrd is staying in shape and wanting to pitch. He’s nothing special, but rather a consistent 5/6 innings and 3/4 runs kind of guy. That, of course is CY Young compared with what Serio Putre has barfed up.
“There are 29 other teams that would LOVE to have Sergio Mitre pitch every five days.”
Yeah, as long as he’s pitching against them every five days
Amusing. So hung up on the OPPC you have to put it in your name.
LOL – even most of the so-called OPPC posters don’t even have it in their names currently.
Two words on the Yankee’s pitching problems…
“Mike Mussina”
Get him to unretire…now… 7 million for the rest of the season and play-offs
I can’t believe they’re keeping Ransom.
Ransom = Girardi’s long lost nephew…
Two words on the Yankee’s pitching problems…
“Mike Mussina”
Get him to unretire…now… 7 million for the rest of the season and play-offs
****************************************************
Uhh no. He’s not game ready if his performance on OT Day is any indication.
Honestly, will some of you share you sources for some of the crack you’re getting? It’s apparently great stuff.
“what’s everyone take on Paul Byrd…?”
No thanks.
He’s 38 and hasn’t pitched anywhere this year.
I’m def not upset about Washburn but I am upset that we didn’t make it happen with halladay. first i think we could have worked the trade within the division if we’d given up the right pieces. we could have given up the whole farm and it would have been worth it, IMO. what exactly are we waiting for? second, i think that if we tried we could have worked a flip with the reds or someone else to get halladay to us.
You’re gonna critcize someone else while using an Old Timer’s Game performance to evaluate Mussina? That goes into the idiotic comment Gall of Shame.
Moose can be game ready in a few weeks…just in time for the play-offs
could Garland be an option?
It’s raining in Chicago. Game may be delayed.
It’s hilarious that someone actually thinks that not trading Ajax for Washburn was a bad move.
I can’t believe anyone would think that a swap of Ajax for Washburn is a smart move.
Just amazing how short sighted some Yankee fans are.
ok but maybe we coudl have moose game ready by october and that could really help us out.
Btw, article in Seattle paper today said the Mariners should have asked for Austin Jackson or Jesus Montero for Washburn.
Yeah, Mitre’s a weak link in the chain, but I’m sure glad we didn’t make THAT trade.
“There are 29 other teams that would LOVE to have Sergio Mitre pitch every five days.”
Is this in the minors? The independent leagues?
You’re gonna critcize someone else while using an Old Timer’s Game performance to evaluate Mussina?
LMAO
“The BP is fried”
Is that really true?
We should have Mo, Hughes, Bruney and Coke available today.
Randy I, ( The Orignal Tin Cup )…Last night there was a discussion on Cashman’s inability to pick up a starter as well as a reliever…..I related to the group how you more than anyone else had concerns over the winter that Cashman not only didn’t supplement the pen during the winter meetings, he also didn’t pickup another back end starter to add depth to the rotation…..Instead, Cashman had Hughes as the # 6 starter, then Kennedy, Aceves…..At the time most here scoffed at the notion the club was at risk in both areas…..Well it was clear during mid-March that Wang was not right, and of course we all know how that turned out, as well as the bullpen……I mentioned that many here that you should be given your due, as your reservations have come to be true……I clearly recall your comments back in late April 2007 when the Yanks called up a 20 year old Philip Hughes and how this was a risky move…..You were right then, and you were right back in December 2008…..
maybe that’s what cash really means by “waivers” – the moose
Well where pray tell else has Mussina pitched since retiring to be evaluated for if he’s game ready or not?
LMAO
Here’s to the Real Ace on the team AJ.Go Yankees!
The good thing that happened to Shelly is that now he is on 40, and so will be called up on 1st September.
Angel — is it safe to assume your “handle” is also the title of your autobiography?
Great, we’re gonna end up losing Shelley now. F’n stupid. We should have dumped that bum Ransom.
“Great, we’re gonna end up losing Shelley now.”
Why would you lose Shelly?
He has options and going to AAA.
Is that the best you could do 86w183?
No, its a line from Macbeth. Shakespeare wrote it.
Wow is someone going to have to kill Ransom to get him off the roster?
No one would have won THAT lineup contest!
Loving the lineup. Take that, haters!
Remember, there’s no ‘me’ in team, and there’s no ‘I’ in win.
Joe Girardi hates first place.
Yanks gotta win these 2 games. Championship teams shouldn’t be losing 3 out of 4 or 4 out of 4. Have to at least split
I assume you think Mike Mussina a viable option as a potential 5th starter then?
Lol Moose wouldn’t return guys, He retired on his own note.
When you have a game that you MUST win, make sure you start BOTH of your 25th MEN!
Uh, why would you ever start Ransom in a game now that you have both Hinske and Hairston?
You could have very easily worked around DH’ing Teixeira by starting Hinske in RF and Swisher at 1B, getting Hinske more at bats that he deserves considering that he hits a HR nearly every game he plays!
Are you kidding me? Seriously, tell me that’s a joke.
Why not play Molina, while you’re at it. It’s a day game after a night game, G.I. Joe.
There is literally no way you ‘stay positive’ people can possibly spin this into a positive.
He really wasn’t kidding about pairing up Hairston and Ransom. I’m literally stunned.
You are one dense indvidual.
I recognized the line, I was drawing the parallel between the line and your inane evaluation of Mussina based on an Old Timers’ Game.
It would be like saying Favre should have stayed retired because he threw out the first pitch at a little league game and had nothing on the ball.
Other than the egomaniacal Reggie Jackson have you ever seen anyone try hard in an Old Timers’ Game?
Dipstick.
damn insane, Cody does his job at times but both hairston and Ransom in lineup same day, wow.
If Mussina wanted to try a comeback hell yes I’d favor signing him. That doesn’t mean he goes into the rotation immediately…. it would be a month at least to get ready
Heh, this line up is kinda great.
3 more hours of lineup second guessing. Yikes.
I get the discussion angle, but its not like anyone on here can do anything to change it now either. It today’s lineup. Win or lose with it.
Joe, for someone who went to Northwestern, you sure don’t seem to bright.
You and your damn man crushes are sickening.
How many errors for Kobe Ransom today?
Poor Shelley…He was so excited to be here, he actually earned the promotion. Then he gets sent down without even playing in a game. I thought Ransom had 9 lives, now it seems like he has 20. What will it take to get rid of him?
“Yanks gotta win these 2 games. Championship teams shouldn’t be losing 3 out of 4 or 4 out of 4. Have to at least split”
The 2000 Yankees and last year’s Phillies among many other teams disagree.
*too bright
yes, that was funny in an ironic way.
ah, what the hell. it’s just a game, right?
Bummer for Shelley. I wonder how much 1 day on a major league roster pays….
Phil I did not know this is a must win..
Is it a must win because you want it to be because last I looked they have about 57 games left.
Ransom better be able to play 1B else they need to get rid of him
BTW for all the clueless Danks is a fairly good lefty, ie Matsui gets a day off etc..
suprised Posada is in the lineup assume he rests sunday.
the must win crowd on the blog is laughable…..
Ransom doesnt have any options left; Shelley did. That was why they decided on Shelley… So silly to have called him down for no reason though, but I guess they couldnt predict the Hariston signing.
Interesting defense. Damon must be sore.
Ransom at 1B? Not much experience there but I’m up for an adventure today.
08/01/09 – the day the season officially began circling the drain.
Matt
Hinske hits righties, he is nothing agaisnt lefties and the yanks look lethargic and slow recently. Hinske runs like texiera.. Hairston can play little ball and has wheels, again they miss Gardner.. Speed helps against good pitching………..
There is a way we can avoid pitching Mitre against the Sox.
8/1 Burnett vs CHW
8/2 Sabathia vs CHW
8/4 Joba vs Tor
8/5 Mitre vs Tor
8/6 Pettite vs Bost
8/7 Burnett vs Bost
8/8 Sabathia vs Bost
8/9 Joba vs Bost
All you have to do is switch Pettitte and Mitre with Mitre pitching on the regular 5 day rotation and Pettitte getting the extra day of rest. Having Monday off gives us that luxury. We will just have to see if Girardi and Cashman are smart enough to get that route rather than just sending Mitre out as a lamb to slaughter.
Boy Joe was serious when he said he would like to play both Ransom & Hairston Jr.
Shelly Duncan being called up made no sense anyway. Glad he’s been sent down.
Wasn’t Hairston Jr. suppose to replace Ransom?
Ransom at 1B? If you need to give Teixeira a day off from playing the field, why don’t they put Hinske in RF and put Swish at 1B? Ransom can’t hit.
“Lol Moose wouldn’t return guys, He retired on his own note.”
No he did not…Where is his championship ring? Is that not the goal of any pro athlete?
Moose can be Game ready by September for the stretch run…Cash and the Yankees can show him that he is needed and would be welcomed back by the mass’s as a hero…if he delivers of course…but this is the type of situation that could entice him from retirement for 3 months…He is better than what will pass through waivers…that we can all agree on.
I totally agree matt..guess they wanted to give him a chance to show us what he got.after sending the Dunk Man down…seriously….what the hell was the point in bringing shelley all the way up here?? getting hopes up…my hopes… =/ i guess someone had to go..and ransom was out of options, but still , why even have him put on the offical gear just to say, yea thanks for comeing to Chi-town just to be the topic of 15 seconds worth of commentary from micheal kay…now go back…confusion much on my part, but i am sure The Kay-ster will explain the sanity of this decision with his crazy theories…Mike Kizzay in the hizzay!
shelly will be up in 30 days and he gets the major league minimum for 1 day plus meal money..
if ransom fails when gardner comes back he will be gone and swisher can play 1B on occassion if they want to give Tex the day off.
the doomsayers are out of control really………
Does anyone seriously believe there’s a team out there (apart from, say, the Newark Bears) that would claim Cody Ransom.
I’m still looking for that one dimension that can play.
If Boston and Tampa lose today, is the Yanks/W. Sox game less must win?
Stop with must win in July.
You know 86whatever.. I’ve never noticed anything you’ve said before so I can’t say I know too much about the stuff you post on here to know if you’re usually this snarky or not. I am far from dense, I deliberately wrote like I misunderstood your snark. I’m snarky enough myself to know when someone is being snarky at me.
I’m saying I think people are reaching a little bit, if you think Mike Mussina would come back, when he retired at what some might consider the top of his game. He didnt’ seem mentally ready to have any desire whatsoever to come back and pitch on OT Day. THAT was my point, not his actual pitching. He seems happy to be retired and at peace with his decision to move on… unlike Brett Favre.
Our manager is great at lineup construction. Not.
Jackson and montero are the only prospects that the teams are interested so my question is where are those high ceiling draft signings? the player development and scouting should be totally overhaul. Enough of pitchers comings to the bigs not throwing consistent quality strikes and batters not fundamentally sounds and enough of draftee that are overhyped.
Stop with must win in July. edit- Aug. 1 my bad
I watched Shelley for a week at Spring Training this year. He was working so hard. I wonder how he feels about his one game dress out. I hope I’ll see him back.
People are grossly underestimating the Yankee bullpen sans Hughes. “The Yankees are 57-3 this year when tied or leading at the start of the 8th inning. Hughes didn’t begin regularly setting up for Mariano until July.” So chances are that they can get by for 3 weeks without Hughes in the setup spot. They have 6 other dudes, someone is bound to be hot. it is up to Girardi to identify that player(s) and put them in higher leverage situations. This is pretty much how he handled the 8th inning before Hughes emerged. Not that complicated really.
Then when Hughes is good to go as a starter, Joba can take over the 8th inning.
Gotta give Brett Gardner credit. After a miserable time of it last year he turned himself into a very important cog in the Yankee machine. The Yanks obviously are better if Gardner is available and Hairston replaces Ransom. Today’s lineup is reflective of Garner being on the DL.
OM MY GAAAAAWD MIKE MUSSINA IS IN GEORGE’S BOX !!!
David (In Seattle) August 1st, 2009 at 1:03 pm
Btw, article in Seattle paper today said the Mariners should have asked for Austin Jackson or Jesus Montero for Washburn.
===========================================
If you are referring to the Steve Kelley article…
http://seattletimes.nwsource.c.....ley01.html
I think you may have just skimmed the first couple paragraphs…
Jack Z is working to rebuild the pitching depth plundered by Bill B. And, he seems to be doing a darn fine job of it so far
1 lefty in the lineup today against Danks. I assume his #’s against lefties are real good…
Melancon should get moved up the pecking order until he fails.. Robertson is not ready for prime time…..Bruney needs to prove he can get outs….
Tim McCarver may very well trump any bad broadcaster as the worst ever. He is terrible.
Hinske with your best shot… nice
y in da world is ransom playin 1st??
Gardner would probably not play today because of the lefty but Gardner has played well especailly in stretches and is a key contributor to the team now and moving forward………….
Mike Mussina isn’t Roger Clemens.
GUYS, MIKE MUSSINA IS COMING BACK! YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST!!!
Ok, so you snarked first and I snarked back… fair enough.
No big deal. My point was that IF Mussina wanted to come back he could do so in 4-6 weeks. He’s obviously in good shape and always has been. We’re good.
Guys I’d rather see than Cody Ransom:
Alvaro Espinoza
Spike Owen
Andy Fox
Clay Bellinger
I don’t mean in their ‘prime’ either. I mean right now.
The Blogger Formerly Known as Dan ,
I see your Tim McCarver and trump you with a Dennis Eckersley from NESN. Not only is he an opinionated fool, the other night the camera showed 2 women holding slices of pizza. Eckersley actually said ” It doesn’t look like either of those 2 need any more pizza”. My jaw dropped.
I really believe that Moose is the type of guy that would give it another go if the Yankees came calling…Sure he is happy…but he knows he can still pitch and 3 months from now he could be sitting on a float strolling through the Canyon of heroes…If his former team-mates called him saying we need your help, I believe Moose could and should be swayed out of retirement…
josh
Hughes, Joba, Melancon (you know where they are)
Kennedy on DL
Brackman coming back from TJ surgery
Betances struggling with elbow issues
Romine in A ball
McAllister “tired arm”
Kontos on DL
Marshall on DL
Their drafting has improved, but it’s still not good enough, and they are either unlucky with injuries or they don’t know how to keep pitchers healthy. I don’t know which.
———————————-
So true Georgia. I saw him in ST and also a handful of AAA games this year and the guy was working his butt off. It’s too bad they didnt give him a chance to play, but at least now they can’t use him being off the 40 man as an excuse.. Hopefully we will see him September 1st.
If he plays tonight he will be starting against his younger brother Chris. I am sure he will enjoy that one if they don’t beat each other up on the field.
Mussina isn’t unretiring. He knew he was going to retire before the 2008 season even started.
That does not sound like a man with any interest in returning.
Angel – A tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing
Mike Mussina isn’t Roger Clemens.
__
For which Mrs. Mussina is eternally grateful.
Yep, its not ability with Mussina that would stop him, its will. I just don’t think he’s like Roger Clemens enough to make that a possibility. That was what I meant. If I made that clear, then yeah, we’re good.
A call up to a major league roster gives a player health and dental insurance for life.
-dennis
stuart,
it’s basically a must win since our 4 and 5 pitchers didn’t get it done and now we have one of our best going,and he has to win all the time cause Andy and Mitre can’t. Anyway, Ransom should be long gone, and if you go check fangraphs you’ll see he “owes” the Yanks 2M for his craptastic season so far.
I’VE GOT CONFIRMATION FROM AN INSIDE SOURCE (NOT SAYING WHO) THAT MIKE MUSSINA IS CLOSE TO SIGNING WITH THE YANKEES! OH MY GOD, CUE SUZYN WALDMAN OVERREACTION! THE MOOSE IS BACK!!!
I can actually understand Girardi’s thinking here. Burnett has been our hottest starter, so he’s resting some of the key offensive players to make sure they’re all available for Pettitte and Mitre’s starts.
Thanks, Joe.
There was no sense staying indoors on this beautiful day, anyway. Unbelievably, it may actually not rain today.
Wow. That’s the type of lineup you put together if you’re either WAY up in the standings or totally out of it.
Unless you’re a dope, you have to realize teams are breathing down the Yankees’ necks. After today, the Yanks see Buerhle and Halladay.
To be fair, of late Roy Halladay hasn’t quite pitched like Roy Halladay.
“the camera showed 2 women holding slices of pizza. Eckersley actually said ” It doesn’t look like either of those 2 need any more pizza”. My jaw dropped.”
Haha Eckersley is an idiot, but I probably would have died if I head him say that. If I were the producer I probably would have been pretty darn upset though.
Eckersley is bad, but I don’t often have to listen to him. McCarver just makes me want to rupture my ear.
Let me get this correct. We sent Duncan down but kept Ransom? I am not the Ransom hater as most people are but that move is stupid. Nice going Yanks.
WOW ransom sucks, just wow. You have a screw loose, buddy. Go get some help.
Richie,
Given how the Yankees butchered Wang’s injury this year and the ridiculous number of joint & muscle injuries last year,their training and medical staff could be part of the problem.
This is the lineup Joe puts out there for AJ? We need to win this game……seriously, I’m losing patience for this guy. I don’t ever complain about lineups, but…..Ransom at 1B? Sorry, that is absolutely horrible – I can’t even describe how horrible that is.
The Blogger Formerly Known as Dan
When Eckersley said that all I could think about is the embarrassment those 2 women had to feel the next day. NESN ratings are huge here in New England. Surely someone they know saw it. I didnt find it funny in the least. He should have been canned the next day.
Well, ok – it’s not a MUST win, but Ransom at 1B? Give me a break – AJ deserves better and so does the team.
I won’t be able to stop laughing if Ransom goes 3-4 today with 2 RBI…
the great thing about baseball is that you can run out your worst-possible lineup and invariably it’s the scrubs who get the big hits.
take Thursday’s game for example. the big hits for Chicago came from Getz (who scored their first run) and Wise.
Who could’ve called that?
I’m all for letting the game play out before getting too worked up. Unfortunately, after today, the Yanks see Mark Buerhle and then Roy Halladay. That obviously puts more pressure on them to win today.
Now if Girardi runs that joke of lineup against those two, then all bets are off.
You probably thought Mitre would pitch well last night also.
Betsy,
I think Damon must be sore after crashing into the wall last night. He really took a shot. If he’s available, then Hairston could have played 1st if Girardi wanted to give Tex a half day off. Ransom would be out.
And why can’t Hinkse play against a LH for once? I’m sorry, this is an inexcusable lineup.
Rebecca, Halladay has been pitching fine. Don’t judge his w/l record as of late because the Jays have been brutal. They give him pretty much no run support. In his past 3 outings, he has 7IP 3ER, 9IP 1ER, 9IP 1er. How is that considered not pitching well as of late?
Dont look at his starts in early July, as he was coming back from an injury. He has looked better as of late. Plus, Halladay is a guy or routine, and I can imagine this trading nonsense and constant questions was a real distraction for him.
Drive, I missed that play, but it sounds like Damon took a shot. I’m not that familiar with Hairston as a player, but on his worst day, he’s got to be 1000 x better than Ransom. AJ gets stuck with this lineup and this defense? Oh brother………
MITRE SUCKS WITHOUT HIS PED’S. THE GUY SHOULD BE BOOED IN HIS NEXT START – WHICH MIGHT BE AGAINST BOSTON (OUCH!). SHOULD WE THROW PEANUTS AT HIM? THE GUY SUCKS!
Christina: You’re probably right, but his last start he did give up something like 11 hits.
REMEMBER TO BRING SHARP OBJECTS FOR MITRE’S NEXT START. HE WILL TRY TO INJURE THAT BASTARD SO HE WON’T BE ABLE TO PITCH ANYMORE. TAKE THAT F*CKER!
WE WILL INJURE THAT F*CKER! SORRY FOR SPELLING MISTAKE
Rebecca ……..and 2 errors? Has Ransom even played 1B? Cash needs to remove this guy from the roster because Girardi has an unhealthy love for him. Hinske needs to play more often, but then I guess 5 HRs in his first however many at bats isn’t good enough.
“F” girardi…he sucks and his managerial moves suck…ransom is a waste, at least shelley duncan can hit.
Ransom at 1B? why not duncan??
WOW!
Lets really screw up the 3 1/2 game lead we had as of 2 days ago now its to 1 1/2 games
Drive 4-5,
I agree with you about Damon. In the postgame Damon was asked how he felt and said he was ok but that he did not know how sore he would be today. He did go into that wall pretty hard.
You’re a joke ‘ransom sucks’. Why would you want to hurt a player. Someone should call the cops on you, sicko. I wish YOU injured yourself typing instead. You’re an idiot, make it happen.
Bye Bam Bam…Wait,… who’s first? did I read that correctly?
BTW Mark Prior was released by the Pads, the Yankees should pick him up and stick him in AAA.
Ugh! Ransom? GI Joe isn’t set on winning today’s game,with Buerhle & Halladay coming up in the next two games. I hate being a croaker, but the Red Sox are coming up the ladder… this is August, not June!
Guys its not that hard of a concept. Ransom didnt have options and Shelley did. CLearly the Yankees arent ready to DFA Ransom just yet.
Brandon: Is Prior healthy?
If so, the Yankees could do worse.
I hate to say it, but the Yanks look like they are going to go on a little bit of a losing streak. I just get that feeling…..They made the CHi Sox look like the best team in baseball the last two games……Now that the Red Sox get Victor, they look poised for a tear…..Its going to be a nail bitting two months…..
I thought Girardi was joking about playing Hairston and Ransom in the same lineup.
Silly me, I forgot he doesn’t have a sense of humor.
WHY WOULD ANYONE WANT ANOTHER ROIDER? THERE’S ALREADY 3 CHEATERS ON THIS TEAM (AROD, PETTITTE, MITRE), YOU WANT TO ADD A 4TH?
I would just like to see all the scrubeenies in the same game with Mitre… then a win would be a shockingly positive development. They could have had Ransom, Shelley and Molina in that lineup last night. Who knows… they couldn’t have played worse defense than the Yanks did or had poorer at bats than Jorge.
Christina, no team would claim Ransom. Seriously, there would be zero chance he gets claimed.
Even if he was, what makes Ransom indispensable?
“Brandon: Is Prior healthy?
If so, the Yankees could do worse.”
Really doesn’t matter, he’s said to be coming back again but the Pads just gave up on him too many set backs. Still you sign him stick him in AAA and hope, if anything he adds some depth.
I’ve got no problem keeping Ransom, but I do have a problem with him playing 1B.
Swish 1B
Hairston/Cabrera/Hinske in the OF
Doesn’t look too hard to me.
“Is Prior healthy?
If so, the Yankees could do worse.”
Rebecca, he hasn’t pitched since 2006… wow.
MAYBE HIM THROWING 85 MPH FASTBALLS HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT. FACE IT THE GUY IS A CHEAT, A STEROID ABUSER.
“I’ve got no problem keeping Ransom, but I do have a problem with him playing 1B.
Swish 1B
Hairston/Cabrera/Hinske in the OF
Doesn’t look too hard to me.”
Agreed. This is a bizarre decision by Joe.
Christina,
Excellent point about Ransom being out of options.In a perfect world it would have been Mitre being sent down with Shelley as today’s DH and Tex at 1st.There’s a day off on Monday. Rest Tex then.
Oh I see ransom sucks is back.
“…no team would claim Ransom. Seriously, there would be zero chance he gets claimed.”
If Angel Berroa was claimed, then certainly some team would claim Ransom.
What makes Ransom have any value whatsoever to the Yanks is the dearth of decent position players at the AAA level. Pena is probably better served getting more high level minor league experience, but I still like him as a better option than Ransom.
How much first base has Ransom played?
I’m obviously typing for no apparent reason here, but:
Ransom being out of options is about as relevant as a bicycle to a fish.
1. He wouldn’t get claimed, no way, no how.
2. If, by some miracle he does, what does he bring to the table that 100 other guys in the minors don’t?
3. fish don’t need bicycles because they live underwater. the Yanks don’t need Ransom because he’s not very good at baseball.
Mark Prior? They’d be better off signing Tom Glavine.. at least he can throw the ball without stubbing his toe or breaking a nail and going on the DL every 2 seconds.
Ugh- You got me there. I am not sure why they like Ransom so much, but that was the only reasoning I could determine as to why they let Shelley go and kept Cody.
They need to get another 5th starter up here soon. Mitre isnt going to cut it.
Ransom played 19 games at first last year without an error and had 1 assist.
I’VE BEEN SAYING ALL ALONG CODY RANSOM SUCKS – I WAS RIGHT!
“Mark Prior? They’d be better off signing Tom Glavine.. at least he can throw the ball without stubbing his toe or breaking a nail and going on the DL every 2 seconds.”
If anything you stick him in AAA and hope he doesn’t fall apart. Tom Glavine’s stuff wise is done, Prior has his stuff he just has alot if Pavano-itis in him.
got ya, Christina. I hope you didn’t take that as personal attack, because I completely dig you. (you pull of simultaneously being a Jays fan and a Yankee fan, a noble feat.) Plus, you’re site is right on.
Stuart,
Read my post a little more closely. I said that RANSOM should not be playing, and RANSOM is the one that can barely move in the field and has no speed to speak of. Ransom is awful and should not be on a major league roster, let alone playing positions that require RANGE.
““Is Prior healthy?
If so, the Yankees could do worse.”
Rebecca, he hasn’t pitched since 2006… wow.”
Oh wow, I didn’t realize it’d been so long. That changes things.
man the level of blogging today is at a new low.
again Phil this is not a must win clown.. look at fangraphs all you want….
out for the day the level of posts here are atthe retarded level….
I guess it looks like 19 games in 2008 if I’m reading the stats right.
“They need to get another 5th starter up here soon. Mitre isnt going to cut it.”
It’s not just Mitre. You have to keep in mind that Joba has maybe a month left starting.. he’s already at 110 innings.
The non move yesterday was dumb.
STUFF DOESN’T MEAN ANYTHING IF THE GUY IS ALWAYS HURT! YOU HAVE CONFIDENCE IN OUR MEDICAL STAFF? AFTER WHAT THEY DID TO WANG!???!! HAHAHA GOOD ONE BRANDON!
“A call up to a major league roster gives a player health and dental insurance for life.”
dennis-
i’m surprised the red sox haven’t called up gammons for a day.
ROFL… out of all the idiots today, ransom sucks takes the prize “biggest idiot”.
Thanks Drive. I guess I did read them right.
Well, maybe he won’t butcher it up too badly. It can’t be much worse than some of the regular players have looked in the field the last two games, can it? lol
lol, thanks Ugh.
E-Gawa: Great point, forgot to evne consider the Joba innings limit. I would assume they are going to stick him in the pen for a while, so why not begin the process of stretching Hughes out?
The fixation with Ransom should end as soon as Gardner is off the DL.
Bruney is the player that needs to step up and settle down the bullpen.
Cashman will be watching the waiver wire like a hawk to get a serviceable No. 5 starter.
“STUFF DOESN’T MEAN ANYTHING IF THE GUY IS ALWAYS HURT! YOU HAVE CONFIDENCE IN OUR MEDICAL STAFF? AFTER WHAT THEY DID TO WANG!???!! HAHAHA GOOD ONE BRANDON!”
Just curious.. when you was a little lad did you write everything in capital letters?
LOOK AT WHAT THAT GREAT MEDICAL STAFF IN BOSTON IS DOING FOR THAT F*CKER SMOLTZ! HAHAHA, SEE YA LATER SMOLTZ! DON’T THINK WE DUNNO YOU ROID, WE JUST LOOK AT YOUR BALDING HEAD AND WE KNOW- YOU’RE A ROIDER!
“If anything you stick him in AAA and hope he doesn’t fall apart. Tom Glavine’s stuff wise is done, Prior has his stuff he just has alot if Pavano-itis in him.”
Mark Prior hasn’t pitched since 2006 and that’s including the minors. He has nothing and he’s worse than Pavano was injury wise. There’s no point.
totally ransom sucks… just discount the fact that he’s 42 years old.
Randy: “i’m surprised the red sox haven’t called up gammons for a day.”
Gotta be one of the funniest lines I have heard in a long time!
“Mark Prior hasn’t pitched since 2006 and that’s including the minors. He has nothing and he’s worse than Pavano was injury wise. There’s no point.”
No one is saying to flat out give him a contract, the case here is to give him the cheapest contract and if he doesn’t pan out, it really doesn’t effect you in any way. All this is ofcourse “if” they believe he can comeback.
“E-Gawa: Great point, forgot to evne consider the Joba innings limit. I would assume they are going to stick him in the pen for a while, so why not begin the process of stretching Hughes out?”
They said they wouldn’t but plans change. It could happen if there is more to Aceves than what they’re saying about just having a tired arm.
Brandon: The Yankees don’t have time to wait-and-see.
Rebecca,
You’re right. It’s August. The time for auditions has passed.
“No one is saying to flat out give him a contract, the case here is to give him the cheapest contract and if he doesn’t pan out, it really doesn’t effect you in any way. All this is ofcourse “if” they believe he can comeback.”
If they’re looking to give money away, I’ll take a contract.
REALLY BRANDON? THE GUY HASN’T PITCHED SINCE 2006… HELLOOOO IT’S NOW 2009! HOW CAN ANY TEAM BELIEVE HE CAN STILL COMEBACK?
Great way to stop a 2 game losing streak. A lineup with both Ransom and Hairston!!!!!!!!!!
If someone had told me that on August 1st Jerry Hairston Jr. and Cody Ransom would be in the starting lineup for the Yanks, I’d have laughed in their face.
If you then told me that the Yanks were actually in first place, I’d have done the old ‘spit take’.
Somehow, both have come to fruition. What the hell, maybe both will have a great day and all of this hand-wringing will have been for nothing.
“Brandon: The Yankees don’t have time to wait-and-see.”
You can always use depth at the SP, again this all depends on how close he is too returning. I’m not familiar w/ how far along he is, I know he hasn’t pitched in 2 yrs. but around Feb. of 09′ he was said to attempting a comeback again IDK how far along he is or isn’t. This is all if he can comeback. You stick him in AAA it doesn’t effect us and if you catch lightning in a bottle he can spot start. Not saying I 100% back this.
Girardi should of put Swish at 1st base, Hinske in RF. What is better Hinske left on left or playing Ransom against anybody?? Girardi gets too crazy with the lefty righty match up. He should give Hinske a chance to hit against a lefty, at least is a major leaguer, not like Ransom.
E-Gawa: So by the end of the season, both Joba and Phil will be in the pen? Not sure I understand the Yankees theory about that one.
OBVIOUSLY IF THEY RELEASED HIM, IT MEANS HE’S NOT CLOSE TO COMING BACK! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SORRY THE KEY LOCKED UP
He’s also just about 29 years old.. so assuming he miraculously recovers from the injury bug that bites him every year.. he’ll be major league ready when he’s 30.
“SORRY THE KEY LOCKED UP”
You can’t buy a new keyboard?
Thanks for the 5 HRs, Eric Hinske. Maybe you’ll get a start or two in August (though I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you).
I thought Pete requested that people not type all in caps.
“E-Gawa: So by the end of the season, both Joba and Phil will be in the pen? Not sure I understand the Yankees theory about that one.”
Assuming they stretch out Aceves, yes.
UPDATE, 2:31 p.m.: The rotation:
Toronto: Pettitte, Mitre
Boston: Chamberlain, Burnett, Sabathia, Pettitte.
—-
Thank you.
Ransom S~
are you aware Pete hates all caps? He says so in the commenting guidelines on the right. So write in lower case please and stop screaming at the blog!!
Well I guess, if anything, that gives you a strong bullpen. But that really wont help much if the starting pitcher doesnt give you a good outing.
OT but Dusty Baker has just broken another arm.
http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com.....8;c_id=cin
WOW.
IT’S NOT MY FAULT THE CAPS KEY IS STUCK!
what a joke.
TO BATMAN:
LOOK BUDDY YOU HAVE BEEN HARASSING ME ALL DAY! WHY DON’T YOU GET A LIFE?
Like the way the Yankees fixed the rotation for the Boston series.
“Well I guess, if anything, that gives you a strong bullpen. But that really wont help much if the starting pitcher doesnt give you a good outing.”
It’s last years problem redux except with a better offense.
Maybe they’ll get lucky and find someone good put on waivers.
Eh, you are as good as banned.
“Assuming they stretch out Aceves, yes.”
Joba will finish 09′ as a SP. They aren’t pulling him from the rotation, the innings cap is misguided and they’ll do it by the pitches per inning stats. I do believe Aceves will go into the rotation and Melancon might take his role as the Ramiro Mendoza of 09′. Yussse is staying in the SU role.
“Somehow, both have come to fruition. What the hell, maybe both will have a great day and all of this hand-wringing will have been for nothing.”
Now there’s a novel concept. Wait and see. Hand-wringing is much more effective when your worst fears have been confirmed rather than just anticipated.
“SORRY THE KEY LOCKED UP”
So, it’s more important to complain about a first place team than to either buy a new keyboard or try to fix your current one.
I’M ACTUALLY BOTH BATMAN AND RANSOM SUCKS! HOW DO YOU GUYS LIKE OUR FAKE CONVERSATION THERE!?
Didn’t Bill Swift have arm issues in SF under Dusty a long time ago, too? Dusty Baker, ruining pitchers for almost 20 years!
“pitches per inning stats”
Ummm…do you mean Total Pitches thrown? Pitches per inning doesnt really make sense.
And Joba is not going to last into september as a starter, hate to break it to you.
Pete,
Can you ban the person that’s impersonating ‘ransom sucks’?
I can put up with his stuff, but not an impersonator on top of that.
“Didn’t Bill Swift have arm issues in SF under Dusty a long time ago, too? Dusty Baker, ruining pitchers for almost 20 years!”
Yeh but he’s not in those 3 guys league. I was looking forward to seeing Volquez become the next Pedro
I think the posting in caps might also be reason enough for a ban, m.
Yeah, what is this pitches/innings stat that people keep talking about? Until very recently, Joba has not been the most efficient pitcher, and I think that would work against him.
I guess Volquez wont be getting any ROY votes this year. oh well, i was hoping the writers would goof up again.
Please lay off the caps,whoever you are!
yeah in general i would say’s jobas innings have been tougher than the typical pitchers inning due to his inefficiency. i dont see how this works in his favor of not getting shut down.
they will go by innings. everyone goes by innings. the tigers already said they will shut down porcello after something like 8 more starts. and they are in the playoff race. the yankees will move joba to the bullpen by september. it is pretty much a lock.
“Ummm…do you mean Total Pitches thrown? Pitches per inning doesnt really make sense.
And Joba is not going to last into september as a starter, hate to break it to you.”
Actuallly it does, b/c aitcher can have stressful innings and easy ones. When GI Joe said they’ll evaluate it, I’m guessing that’s how they are going to use the innings cap.
I hate to break you but he is, if he’s 8-1 w/ a 2.80 ERA in his final 9 starts you think NYC is going to react well in taking him out of the rotation? I’ll go as far as ownership will step in there and tell Cash cut the BS or GI Joe will be against it. There’s a point where your protecting an arm but there is a point where in protecting that arm your hurting your chances to make the playoffs. They won’t allow that.
Heck I don’t even think GI Joe or Joba will react well to that. He’ll finish in 09′ in the rotation.
“Joba will finish 09? as a SP. They aren’t pulling him from the rotation, the innings cap is misguided and they’ll do it by the pitches per inning stats. I do believe Aceves will go into the rotation and Melancon might take his role as the Ramiro Mendoza of 09?. Yussse is staying in the SU role.”
If they go by pitches per inning, it’s going to be a lot shorter since it took him an average of 100 pitches to get to 5 most of the season.
With the way they have babied pitchers, I do not see that happening.
He would have approx 11 more starts this season.. that’s about 60 more innings (or approx 1000 pitches) on top of the 110 (1800 pitches) he has now + Postseason (hopefully 3 rounds of it). He only threw 100 innings (1700 pitches) last year, that’s not happening.
Well I see a loss tom and vs Halladay and at least 2 w/Beckett and Lester. That is 4 in next 8 games. These are the pitchers Yanks need to at least split with as these are the type of playoff pitchers that they would face. Needless to say, today is a must win.
b/c a pitcher*
Toronto: Pettitte, Mitre
Boston: Chamberlain, Burnett, Sabathia, Pettitte.
======================
Too lazy to figure it out, but wasn’t Joba pitching between Sabathia & Pettitte? How did Joba move up?
“If they go by pitches per inning, it’s going to be a lot shorter since it took him an average of 100 pitches to get to 5 most of the season.”
Not really, he’s average 16 pitches per inning, do the math.
I could be wrong but I think Swift got overused in Seatle that started his arm problems. I think they rushed him to the majors before he was ready.
Ransom?? LOL….good luck today Yanks…
Not hard to understand why Girardi would want Joba getting a little extra rest to pitch against the Red Sox than trotting out Sergio Mitre.
I really wanted to see Doc vs Joba.
Why do you even bother coming here?
Some Yankee “fans” are the worst sports fans in the country.
GF,
It’s not that I don’t understand the reason, I was too lazy to figure out the how.
“I really wanted to see Doc vs Joba.”
When you think about it, you rather he pitch vs Bos in games that effect the standings.
“Not really, he’s average 16 pitches per inning, do the math.”
Or you can just look at the game logs. 8 out of 19 were 5 or less.
m…with the off day Monday, which is where Joba was lined up to start, he gets skipped and Andy and Mitre stay on norml rest.
As such, Joba then pitches Thursday against the Sox and everyone else stays on normal rest.
Vader,
Thank you very much. Now I get it.
Ransom has a 268 obp in 75 at bats. Why is he still on this team. I would of put Swisher at first and have Duncan play right today.
“I could be wrong but I think Swift got overused in Seatle that started his arm problems. I think they rushed him to the majors before he was ready.”
You might be right because Swift was always hurt. Either way, Dusty finished him off.
——————————————————
He pitched 1yr in the minors before he came up. I remember when they did it they were desperate for pitching.
I am glad that Mitre isn’t going against Boston. Even though Toronto can hit a BP pitcher, the Yankees really need to win some games vs their arch rivals.
No wonder Shelly looked so sad last night.
I would have liked to have seen him in there today instead of Ransom.
btw…still prefer “Hinske , Baby one more time”…or “Hinske drove ‘em inske!!”
“Or you can just look at the game logs. 8 out of 19 were 5 or less.”
he also had 2 88 pitch performances, an 86, 84 & 14. He should have enough pitches to finish 09′ in the rotation.
Who wants to back me on an A-Rod HR today?
Any takers?
Ransom started 2 games at 1B for the Yankees last year. 42 total innings, no errors. I have to say I have no recollection of him playing first. Maybe he was a defensive replacement for the Giambino.
Welcome Jerry Hairston jr. It must be a wild feeling putting on a Yankee uniform for the first time.
I will take A Rod hitting the ball somewher period, especially w/RISP…..
I want to adopt Hinske, even though he’s probably almost my age. Probably feels unloved. lol.
Why is Ransom in the lineup? Why is he still on the Yankees? Why is Swisher not at first base?
Girardi has got to be one of the worst managers when it comes to setting up a lineup.
RT @YankeesWFAN Shelley had a funny line on the way out. Said he thought it was a bad sign that he was given hotel room 1313.
RDM,,
Alex and I will be accepting apologies about 6:00 P.M. tonite
Shelly did more for us this year than Berroa.
Doesn’t Po usually rest or DH day game after a night game? I can’t figure out Girardi…..
“Shelly did more for us this year than Berroa.”
He still provided some good jokes!
“RT @YankeesWFAN Shelley had a funny line on the way out. Said he thought it was a bad sign that he was given hotel room 1313″
LOL!!! Thanks for sharing that.
“he also had 2 88 pitch performances, an 86, 84 & 14. He should have enough pitches to finish 09? in the rotation.”
He’s had starts over 100 pitches too.
Whatever though.
Oh boy.
Day game after a night game makes me nervous. Our team parties to hard on the road, and especially in a city like Chicago.
I bet MIN is glad they took Mauer over Prior in the draft.
What pictures does Ransom have of Girardi & Cashman? Now he’s a 1B? This guy is a below average fielder,a well below average hitter & maybe an average runner..he’s got to have pictures!
“He’s had starts over 100 pitches too.
Whatever though.”
8 out of those 10 starts were 100 pitches over 6 IP, not really stressful on the arm, the other 2 were.
His last 3 weren’t. Infact you could say 1 out of his last 7 100 pitch performances was stressful.
“I bet MIN is glad they took Mauer over Prior in the draft.”
Had Minny taken Prior over Mauer they’d have had Santana, Liriano and Prior pitching for them w/ Nathan closing. Prior would have had a 16 – 17 yr. type career, Dusty Baker is a big reason why Prior is broken.
And sadly it’s not over for Dusty b/c he may have just ended the promising career of Edinson Volquez and now has his next victim lined up in Jhonny Cueto.
Here’s the White Sox lineup since Pete Abe hasn’t gotten it yet.
Scott Podsednik CF
Gordon Beckham 3B
Jermaine Dye RF
Jim Thome DH
Paul Konerko 1B
A.J. Pierzynski C
Carlos Quentin LF
Chris Getz 2B
Jayson Nix SS
How about signing Paul Byrd? Couldn’t hurt….
Bet duncan was pissed he didnt even get a chance. Someone explain to me how ransom is better than duncan. Dont even say ransom is better because he can play more positions. He cant play any position and he definitely cant hit. I rather have jose molina in centerfield than cody at any position. Atleast it would be entertaining to watch jose run.
hj
I’m scared
“Bet duncan was pissed he didnt even get a chance. Someone explain to me how ransom is better than duncan.”
He can play defense better than him, Shelley’s bat isn’t good, IDK what the affection ppl have w/ Bam Bam, not to say that Cody doesn’t suck b/c he does. And for the life of me IDK why he is at 1B today.
We need another all-star break
“Had Minny taken Prior over Mauer they’d have had Santana, Liriano and Prior pitching for them w/ Nathan closing. Prior would have had a 16 – 17 yr. type career, Dusty Baker is a big reason why Prior is broken.”
Brandon, you don’t know that. Maybe Prior is prone to injuries and Dusty just made it happen sooner rather than later. No one knows what future Prior would have had if he’d been picked by MIN. But from MIN’s perspective, you gotta believe that that’s what they are thinking.
Please no whining about what negative things McCarver or Buck says about the Yankees. Just mute your tv.
“Brandon, you don’t know that. Maybe Prior is prone to injuries and Dusty just made it happen sooner rather than later. No one knows what future Prior would have had if he’d been picked by MIN. But from MIN’s perspective, you gotta believe that that’s what they are thinking.”
No one had smoother mechanics than Mark Prior, no one thought he would ever get hurt, until Dusty Baker broke him !! like he did Wood and now Volquez !
Man, a lot of hate on here for poor Cody Ransom. Are you guys sure he didn’t kill your dogs or something? The guy is a reserve infielder; not the anti-Christ. Duncan is a fun guy, but he’s proven that he’s not ready for primetime either. I’m not sure why you thought this time was going to be different.
Seeing as the announcement hasn’t been made, Jerry Hairston Jr. will wear No. 17.
“No one had smoother mechanics than Mark Prior, no one thought he would ever get hurt, until Dusty Baker broke him !! like he did Wood and now Volquez !”
What is Dusty doing that you claim is damaging these pitchers? Is it overuse a la Joe Torre?
Buck: The Yankees…suck…They need another break.
McCarver: I agree wholeheartedly Joe.
“What is Dusty doing that you claim is damaging these pitchers? Is it overuse a la Joe Torre?”
Yes but in a even more hardcore way.
That FOX interview with Texiera might have been the worst interview of a baseball player EVER!!
Wow, I actually get to watch a FOX game on my own TV.
Laura: Dusty Baker makes Joe Torre look like a prime candidate for manager of the year.
Where can this game be seen on the internet
“Yes but in a even more hardcore way.”
You care to expand on that? Is he pitching them on 3 days rest on a regular basis? Is he having them go 8, 9 innings even though they are gassed?
Fox Saturday Game
“Laura: Dusty Baker makes Joe Torre look like a prime candidate for manager of the year.”
Really. I haven’t followed Dusty’s managerial career since he left the Cubs. He wasn’t liked here at all towards the end.
loser Rays get the fox game in Florida.
I need a site for the Yankees game.
“You care to expand on that? Is he pitching them on 3 days rest on a regular basis? Is he having them go 8, 9 innings even though they are gassed?”
Yes.
We better win today and tomorrow or my friends are going to be brutal!
“Fox Saturday Game”
Another one next Saturday too. You can bet the talk a be how the ball fly’s out at new YS.
Laura: Dusty Baker makes Joe Torre look like a prime candidate for manager of the year.
—————————————–
I don’t know.
Just after the All star game, Jon Kruk had a scathing reporting on ESPN on Torre’s bullpen management.
McCarver clearly doesn’t watch Yankee games. Derek has been swinging at the first pitch all season.
I can’t watch the game
Thanks Fox!
We’re stuck with the Dodgers and the Braves today in Charleston.
Too bad.
Anywhere to WATCH the game free online stream?
I can’t get teh game on FOX today, i get the crappy Dodger/Brave game
Woot, i can watch Adam LaRoche
Let me find the site that I usually use.
I love when Swisher shakes his head when its a strike
2 days in a row come on
I hate giving away outs on the basepaths.
I heard Joe was thinking of going with Nancy Newman and Kim Jones in the lineup tomorrow.
He likes how they match up against lefties.
More stupid baseball by Tex this time
cant say tex didnt hustle…he always does
I hate these Fox games, these announcers never know what they are talking about.
Try http://sticktv.net/. Scroll down to the Yankees game. You might need to put in a password, but the description includes it.
Damn, MT runs slow. >.<
Who is the guy who put sandbags in Tex’s pockets… Boy that was bad
I’m all for being aggressive, but Tex isn’t that fast and the ball wasn’t that far from Dye. The guys have to start using their heads more. These mistakes are just stupid.
Hey cats and kittens!
Just popping in to say that I am very happy that the Yanks will once again go back to their winning ways with a win today and then another tomorrow. Yahoo Yanks!!!
GO YANKEES!!!
GO ORIOLES!!!!
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that the Sux are going to start losing again. Honest!
Thanks Laura
guys….did you realize how good of a throw that was…it was a good chance with 2 outs…remember there is another team trying to win…
No problem, carl.
God I hate that Bob Barker…I mean Tim McCarver
For those of you in Florida with Direct TV and can’t watch the game because it is blacked out since Tampa Bay is also playing on Fox….you can watch the game in Spanish on channel 624. It is in Spanish but you can watch the Yankees…..
“God I hate that Bob Barker…I mean Tim McCarver”
LOL classic Adam Sandler line.
swing!
A.J. is dynamite.
Nice play Robbie!
The shift…thats big league scouting lol
That time the shift worked.
That has to be the only time I’ve ever liked a shift being on a hitter.
I’m waiting on pins and needles for the immortal Jerry Hairston Jr.’s first Yankee at-bat.
so that’s why the y play the shift vs Are you there god?, it’s me Jim Thome.
Come on Yanks, bums, win one at least for my sake.
“I’m waiting on pins and needles for the immortal Jerry Hairston Jr.’s first Yankee at-bat.”
If he doesn’t get a grand slam, it was definitely a mistake to get him, right?
Aha! Some nice luck! Yesss.
other teams make errors too? awesome.
Want to know why Melancon is “on the rise” with 3.2 scoreless innings his last 2 times out? Because he’s finally gotten the confidence to shake Posada off.
Last night, Poasda did what he always does with young pitchers: puts down the #1`sign for fastball every single pitch. Except that Melancon’s outpitch…his bread and butter and what he uses to strike guys out with 2 strikes..is that devastating breaking pitch…
So Melancon shook Posada off for the first times last night… actually he just kept looking for the sign to tell Posada he wanted to throw another pitch.. he’s too classy to actually shake him off… but it served the same purpose. That last pitch to the last guy he faced was outrageous. Unhittable.
Can we please get this run in?
it doesn’t work well when old ex-players cover teams for the game of the week and know less about the teams than that team’s fans on a blog.
the powers to be at the network level might want to take that into account because it’s becoming a cliche that the national announcers don’t know much about any one team.
“If he doesn’t get a grand slam, it was definitely a mistake to get him, right?”
I’ll settle for a stand-up triple.
Posada needs to sit a few games.
Blosada.
Dank looks almost unhittable
damn this is getting pitiful w/ RISP
Did you hear that John Danks is rock solid left hander….Tim McCarver said so so it;s def true
“If he doesn’t get a grand slam, it was definitely a mistake to get him, right?”
Well, Wilson Betemit, Cody Ransom, and Andy Phillips all homered in their first AB as a Yankee and Eric Hinske homered in his first game. He’s got a lot of competition with other bench players to make a good first impression
A changeup up in the zone and robbie fails to hit it. Pathetic !!!
“Posada needs to sit a few games.”
Yes please.
“Blosada.”
Yes sir.
LOL. Game Over.
RISP wooooo
that’s fundamental baseball right there.
fundamentally unsound.
This is the Yankees problem at the plate.
They can’t do the little things.
A-Rod at 2nd base with no outs, facing a tough pitcher who you might not be able to get a bunch of hits off of, and then you have Posada in a hitter’s count pulling the ball and not getting him over. Just terrible situational baseball by Posada, yet again.
“damn this is getting pitiful w/ RISP”
same thing was heard around the fenway environs for a bit of time there.
Do you read me Brandon!
It’s all the shortstop’s fault. He just had to throw the ball away and force Arod to be in scoring position. If Arod was only at first base, someone probably would have hit a homerun.
A.J. better have his A+ stuff today…as in shut-out type stuff.
I made the mistake of playing the trade deadline summary video on ESPN.
First up was Gammons. Literally, the first words out of his mouth were, “The Red Sox”. I immediately X’d out that window.
Is there any worse situational hitting team in baseball than the Yankees? Do they give any thought to whether anyone is on base and the number of outs? Even last night, guy walks on 4 pitches, Jeter is 2-0 and then aggressively swings when the team is behind and no one out. This happened two times last night.
Wonderful Roll there
Rumbling, bumbling, stumbling Nick Swisher, ladies and gentlemen.
Funny how the Yanks can look like champs for 9-10 games and then go to LA and play like the Riverdogs.. Then play fantastic again after the break, and then go to Chicago and look like the Riverdogs once again…
Guess its baseball… but frustrating like hell
I still can’t believe the Yankees didn’t atleast speak to the M’s about King Felix, I keep reading the Red Sox did nothing about the Yankees, not even an offer was made.
oh boy.
I will not kill Jorge for struggling – he’s been great and is just in a slump. He should not be playing today, or at least not catching. I assume Joe didn’t want to break up a good thing between he and AJ, but AJ has pitched well to Molina – he can pitch to anyone. Joe is a bizarre manager. He hardly plays Hinske (I don’t care how bad he is against lefties, he’s 1000x better than Ransom), he overuses pitchers (my word, keeping Ace out there last night is beyond stupid…………I like the guy personally and I do hate to critize him, but his lineup today is a joke.
That is Burnett’s problem when he pitches.
He can’t put batters away.
He gets two quick strikes on Konerko and then can’t put him away. After an eight pitch at bat the other batters get a good look at his pitches. Two straight singles all due to his lack of putting the first batter away.
Please do not implode.
This is my problem with the Yankee batters.
Arod gets on second,with no outs.All 3 batters behind him get outs.No one advanced the runner,or RBI,AS USUAL LOB.
whats going on?
Yanks > Tigers
Tigers > White Sox
White Sox > Yanks
AJ is due for a bad game.
How come the White Sox keep getting 3-4 straight hits the entire series, and the Yankees can’t even hit a fly ball to advance a runner?
bases loaded 1 out.
i assume they are getting a blooper or two
AJ versus a .225 hitter
I guess A-Rod is in slump mode again.
Arod showed bad range on Pierzynski’s hit ball. He’s playing him off line and he still got a hit. Should have been an out.
Tell me you’re not sweating with bases loaded 1 out?
the Yanks are 0-8 this year vs. the Red Sox?
I didn’t know that. Thanks, Tim.
a pitch right down the middle for ball 2
Was that a strike???
A pitch down? That crossed AT THE KNEES from their OWN side angle!
“Tell me you’re not sweating with bases loaded 1 out?”
I would be if Mitre was pitching, that’s for damn sure.
“Tell me you’re not sweating with bases loaded 1 out?”
I’m not.
But that won’t surprise the posters here who know me.
it said on gameday it was righ tdown the middle and a ball
Ugh, the bottom of the White Sox lineup has killed us all series.
awesome
3-2 pitch was RIGHT IN THERE called ball 4. UNBELIEVABLE.
Where the hell was that pitch?
wow blue where was that one.
walked in a run against bumstain Nix
OMG…
How can you walk a guy batting .225 with the bases loaded?
MF that was a flippin strike. That POS behind the plate better call the same damn thing for Danks.
Ugh, AJ………..I don’t know why they said that AJ wouldn’t have the gumption to throw a 3-2 breaking pitch – he did that in Baltimore.
If he could just get out of this with 1 run…
Where was that?
that was a strike…for sure
What are these umpires on the payroll for the White Sox with making bad strike calls?
What a joke.
The strike zone in this series has been the worst I have EVER seen.
In the first game, everything is 4 inches outside called a strike. Now, today, he is throwing it well above the knees, RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE, and it’s called a ball.
Never in my life have I seen a worse strike zone across a series.
says right down the middle on gameday again for ball 4.
i guess the umpires know the red sox are down 1 in the loss column. it’s time for them to make their move.
“it said on gameday it was righ tdown the middle and a ball”
Yet FOX saids nothing.
Well, AJ was due for a bad game. If it’s today it just happened to come at a bad time.
36 pitches for AJ.
Have a feeeling the game will get out of hand in a minute or two…
AJ has no control at all
Well we can the difference from the people here who know baseball and those who merely complain and obssess…
This is the Yankees problem when Posada is catching.
When the pitcher wants to throw his pitch and the catcher disagrees, the pitcher will not throw that secondary pitch with the same conviction.
Girardi should not match Posada with Burnett. It’s destined to fail.
get Mitre up..he will stop this nonsense
Matt -
Quit crying. We get cheated in playoff series, this is no surprise. The umpires know what they have to do. and that’s help Boston.
SAC/FLY coming,betcha!
Come on AJ don’t give them the chance.
Yep right there….
Game over
Well, AJ was due for a bad game……..what are you going to do?
Worst call EVAR?? really?
So bad that neither Posada nor Burnett nor Girardi protested?
last one out, turn out the lights.
You cannot fault Burnett ONE BIT for this.
He has thrown pitches right over the plate that are called balls. What is he supposed to do?
this is bad…
Ugh, I hate the freaking Sox. EVERY COLOR OF THEM.
Nice job… need you to show up and this is the performance we get
News flash the White Sox are pathetic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ughh we need a new RF, Swish hit the cutoff, keep the DP in order, no way your getting Getz there.
“You cannot fault Burnett ONE BIT for this.
He has thrown pitches right over the plate that are called balls. What is he supposed to do?”
you must be blind you idiot
This team gets into really bad funks.
Nice….
stopper…not so much today
Matt, give me a break – AJ has been great with Posada for awhile now….
Here we go. The Umpire making the game about himself because he has no clue about strikes and balls, and the destroys the game.
I’ve had it. I can’t stand watching a game where the umpire changes the game because they are incompetent.
AJ picked a bad time to come up lame.
FOX Saturday games = automatic loss.
3-0. 2nd and 3rd. 1 out. this game could get away quickly.
I knew going in to the series.
it was Tim McClelland Umpiring crew. That means cheat city.
Damn, AJ. We’re just horrible against the Sox. Red and White.
Big Money Pitcher.
The curse of the Fox Saturday game
good job aj
All the runs in this inning scored as the result of that horrible, pathetic, disgraceful missed call.
Burnett does not make the same pitches in these spots with 2 outs as he does with 1 out. Game plan? Is McCarver serious? They are being struck out every at bat and none of them are called.
But this is not Burnett’s fault. He is making his pitches, and none are being called, which forces him to come in and throw it down the middle, because NOTHING else is a strike.
How about this joke of an offense wakes up and does its job for once, rather than choking with RISP and having terrible situational baseball?
They’re going to get swept in Chi-Town……..
They’re playing and pitching crappy against a mediocre team.
This bum is just throwing BP now
3 losses in a row, 4 out of the last 5
Pathetic outing from Burnett
I bet Cashman is kicking himself right now
AJ did not come up lame
This was Tim MCClelland’s crew coming up BIG
Funny how the Sox are taking everything the other way.
I’ll come back t’row…
This is unwachable
Yeah this is out of hand, damn.
Burnett has been well of late can’t expect it all the time I guess.
The Sox are hitting great right now. Most of their hits in this series have been taken the other way.
Keep crying about the umpire, Burnett sucks today. This is on him, you can’t make excuses.
Posada’s pitch calling has been terrible this inning.
7 times already he has called the wrong pitch. You need to go high and low – inside and outside. Move the batter’s eye line so he doesn’t get in one set pattern and location.
Laura – did you actually watch the three pitches in a row that were right down the middle and were called balls? Can you think of a good way a pitcher needs to adjust to that?
ever since the papi news came out
red sox win 2 straight and ortiz has 2 homers
yankees lost 2 straight, and are losing 5-0 while playing sloppy baseball
We do not want to be playing this poorly right before the BOS series.
where is Proctor when you need him ?
I wish we could take AJ out, but he’s going to have to try and work through at least 5 so we can save the pen somewhat…….
Let’s see what this bum White Sox team does against the Red Sox offensively. The team that cant score.
i feel awful for the bullpen….
It’s not over yet. The Yankees were up 3-0 in the 1st last night, and the Sox came back. Let’s see if we can do the opposite.
The baseball does not have a tracker in it. I do not understand why all you idiots keep posting about “Gameday had it right down the middle”
Gameday is operated by some 18 year old sitting in the press box guessing where the pitch was
get a clue
We are a bully team. We destroy teams at home with our short porch, but then fold like a cheap suit, this team is going NOWHERE.
Like I said last night, he was bound to have a blip sooner or later. He’d been too good for too long, and even the best pitchers can’t keep that levels of quality up forever. This is akin to Santana’s 9 ER game against us earlier in the year.
This is just not our series. Honestly, the worst baseball I’ve seen them play all season. They look like the Nationals out there. Just awful.
“AJ did not come up lame
This was Tim MCClelland’s crew coming up BIG”
Thank you.
“do not want to be playing this poorly right before the BOS series.”
Does it matter? White Sox had been miserable in advance of this series.
So it’s the umpiring crew’s fault? Got it.
Terrible game. At least I don’t have to waste my Saturday evening watching it. Burnett has two pitches, it has to catch up with him eventually.
What a 3 games. The Yanks are having another one of those seasons where they use the home run to be dominant, get to the playoffs and face better pitching, where they cant drive runs i from scoring position. We have scene this story since 2005.
just not our week fellas..just not out week…that or we somehow forgot the fundamentals of winning in a week
“They’re playing and pitching crappy against a mediocre team.”
The White Sox aren’t mediocore. But for the first time I agree w/ Matt’s post.
“We are a bully team. We destroy teams at home with our short porch, but then fold like a cheap suit, this team is going NOWHERE.”
Hmmm. Yet one of the only two teams in the majors with a winning record on the road. Good trick!!!
Mitre brought out the backup bullpen yesterday. They’re done. We’re going to have to use Hughes today? Or who? Nobody else can really go 6 innings.
err, I thought it were 2 out.
AJ is horrendous today, and we don’t have a long man ready.
Geez.
Umpire has been fine. This is totally on Apple Jacks.
yea they dont beat people on the road…right…they just took a series from the rays at the trop…this is just a terrible terrible terrible series…thats the bottom line..
Buehrle tomorrow
and then Halladay in the Jays series vs. Pettitte and Mitre
Yanks are shaping up well going into the huge Boston series
How do the Yankees STILL not have a long reliever??
After Mitre’s pitiful 3 inning performance yesterday that burned out most of the bullpen, they opted to keep Ransom instead of a long reliever?
Who the heck is available to pitch today? Bruney, Hughes, and Mo?
I’m blind Bryan? How about you look at the gameday of Nix’s at bat.
Ball 2 and 4 were right over the plate, well above the knees. No pitcher, not Josh Beckett, not Roy Halladay, not A.J. Burnett, can make that many quality pitches in a row with the bases loaded when pitches right over the plate are being called balls.
Would you rather him throw it right down the middle and give up a grand slam in a scoreless game? What is he supposed to, just groove it because he is making perfect pitches on the corners and they are being called balls?
Whoa tough inning. Still a lot of baseball left, although Danks has been good thus far
This team is in the midst of a funk that has got to come to a halt or bad things will be happening.
They’re not playing with a sense of urgency.
You people who want to pin this entirely on the ump don’t understand baseball. Just because the ump blows a call doesn’t mean that you proceed to give up back to back to back hits. A ML pitcher is supposed to be able to put that aside and go back to trying to get out the hitter. The ump didn’t give up all of those hits; AJ did.
bring in tanyon hurtz!
It’s not the umpire’s fault that burnett keeps grooving pitches.
I just looked at all the pitches this inning, the ump missed 1 maybe 2 balls. You can partially blame the bases loaded walk on the ump. Everything else has been hits given up by Burnett on balls right down the center of the plate.
Absolutely pathetic outing on a day when the Yanks need a win in the worst way. Gutless job by Burnett
Yikes! At least there’s still 7 more innings. Let’s go, bats.
So it’s the umpiring crew’s fault? Got it.
—————-
Yeppers. They cheat us out of playoff series. They cheated us in the first game. Andy and Floyd did not get the same pitches called, no matter what that bum Al Nibble Leiter says
You really have to question what in god’s name this front office is doing with the roster.
Yesterday Mitre goes 3 innings and almost the entire bullpen is forced to pitch multiple innings. So what do they do?
Certainly not call up a long relief pitcher from AAA. They’d rather have Cody Freaking Ransom on the roster STARTING in a game.
Have you ever seen such stupidity?
No question, AJ sucked today…….but making sarcastic comments about him is unfair as he’s been really great for us. He had nothing today – you can work around having iffy stuff, but you can’t work around having nothing.
I hate to send him out there again when he’s got nothing, but we can’t use the pen that much……..5 innings, that’s all I ask.
This team did not come ready to play today. This falls on Girardi. You can’t make the mental and physical errors this team does and expect to win. They look like a defeated team.
Between Posada’s pitch calling and the terrible umpiring, I don’t blame them.
Yanks going on a 5 game losing steak after Tuesday Chicago’s ace tom and Halladay on Tuesday. There goes first place, in a flash.
Serf August 1st, 2009 at 4:56 pm
Mitre brought out the backup bullpen yesterday. They’re done. We’re going to have to use Hughes today? Or who? Nobody else can really go 6 innings.
No way they waste Hughes on this disaster. Its gunna be Melancon, Robertson, and Coke
Are people getting on AJ? Geez, not like he’s been pitching lights out since baseball.
“So it’s the umpiring crew’s fault? Got it.”
Go on gameday and you’ll see those called 3rd strike pitches were called balls. After that AJ had to throw it down the pipe to get a call. Yes the ump didn’t help matters that inning. They were horrible calls.
Hey, Im not criyng about it. I knew with the Ortiz revelation and them being back 3 games, The umpires were going to do something. Then I found out it was Mcclelland’s crew and I was positive. It’s no big deal.
This team has the fight to come back from it.
IT’s the playoff series where I will cry about it. Because in the playoffs there is no tomorrow.
Uh, no. Gameday is operated by a bunch of tracking systems and cameras set up all around the ballpark and is completely automated.
Get a clue before you bash something you know nothing about. Even the FOX side camera had the 1-2 pitch from Burnett crossing at least an inch or two above the guy’s knee and anyone could see that the pitch was over home plate.
keep blaming the umps when AJ is throwing batting practice… Only one of those pitches was border line… stop making excuses
this is classic Burnett… he is either dominant or completely awful
I have to say, that 3-2 pitch to Nix was a strike. A.J. was hosed on that one.
Betcha Cashman regrets sitting on his hands last week.
Swisher is an absolute butcher in right field. A blind person could play a better right field.
“The White Sox aren’t mediocore. But for the first time I agree w/ Matt’s post.”
Parcells: You are what your record says you are.
White Sox came into this series 51-51. They are mediocrity defined.
Yeah, who needs another arm? Good lookin’ out Cash!!
Also LOL at anyone bashing Burnett. He’s been lights out lately, stinkers happen. He was probably due for one. Good thing there is no bullpen to back him up because it was all used last night mopping up for the most inadequate 5th starter in baseball (with all due respect to Sir Sid…his inadequacy doesnt count cause it happens on the Royals)
Oh, and good thing our long man has been playing hurt for a few weeks now so he can’t be moved to the rotation and couldn’t finish this game even if he hadnt pitched last nght. Like I said….who needs another arm?
/sarcasm….seriously, am I the only one who sees that this pitching staff is a total house of cards? But by all means, keep dismissing me as a ‘Bad Fan’ cause I’m not satisfied with Cashman’s failure to address our needs.
Of course the Yanks did score a run w/runner on 2nd and 0 outs in the 2nd, didn’t they?
The guy has come up big time and again and he has a terrible outing – he didn’t have anything. Wow – talk about an overreaction, calling him gutless.
first off, posada is calling a downright lousy game. He truly has proven that his sole value is as a DH. He is just not fun to watch.
Swisher is an absolute joke in RF, he has no business playing there every day. yet another 4th OF on a team with about 3 or 4 of those.
The laziness of the team stems from an overall attitude of complacency from many members of the team, beginning with Cano.
Cashman sealed this team’s fate this week by not moving at the deadline. Anyone who thinks the yanks have the solution internally doesn’t understand what it takes to win in the post-season. Once again, cashman got entirely outmaneuvered at the deadline. While Rome burned, he fiddled like Nero.
6-0 wow….only 2nd inning nice job by AJ in a somewhat big situation…other day that the bull pen has to work overtime….just what we need late in the season….after today 2-4 trip
*since Boston.
When was the last time the Yankees turned a triple play? Cuz WCBS runs the triple play inning every game.
And they said Vmart cried when he found out he’d been traded.
I’ve said this before and it bears repeating. Baseball is about who you play and when you play them. CWS got lucky in that they are catching us while we are down. We could get a different outcome when they come to the stadium.
You can certainly pin it on the umpire.
When the pitcher is not getting pitches on the corners, what is he supposed to do? He’s falling behind every hitter and doesn’t want to keep walking more guys, so he’s FORCED to lay it in there to get a strike because the umpire REFUSES to call anything on the corner.
When nothing but a pitch right over the plate is a strike, how is Burnett supposed to pitch?
The strike zones in this series have been wildly in favor of the White Sox, and not even close to going both ways. It’s a joke, and it’s affected both teams’ pitching. In the first game, 8 of the 14 strikeouts were looking, and the majority of them were on pitches well off the plate. Pettitte got nothing close to that, it’s a miracle that it was a tie game as long as it was.
Then today, Danks is getting pitches slightly off the plate and Burnett throws it 2-3 inches above the knees right over the outer half and it’s called a ball.
Laura – Release the list!!
August 1st, 2009 at 4:57 pm
You people who want to pin this entirely on the ump don’t understand baseball. Just because the ump blows a call doesn’t mean that you proceed to give up back to back to back hits. A ML pitcher is supposed to be able to put that aside and go back to trying to get out the hitter. The ump didn’t give up all of those hits; AJ did.
———————–
Hey Laura. AJ is human. He gets flustered too. He aint a robot. When one gets cheated, you start to feel like there is nothing you can do. So he throws it down the middle and gets hammered!!!!!!!!
just turn the page & come out tomorrow & win one.
worst case scenario we are a 1/2 game ahead of the rs.
we messed up by starting ace whenever it was.
he hasn’t been the same.
we should of also never put hughes in the pen.
we need a starter & he would be getting valuable innings in as a starter instead of starting all over next year.
corner of spots are also a total mess defensively.
other than that not to bad.
go yankees.
we are going to come back.
Hairston with the tip off the UMP
Have you seen my owner?
Bryan, I know you have not been watching the Yankees. AJ is awful or dominant? Have you SEEN any of his starts? There have been several instances where he had no control or curve or whatever and he managed to put out a good effort. People just see what they want to see and they jump off the ledge after one bad performance – players are not allowed to be human.
baserunner! (we kinda, sorta need those)
M, unbelievable, isn’t it?
“No question, AJ sucked today”
You watching this game Betsy? Seriously did you see the three pitches where he was totally jobbed? That’s all I want to know.
Oh yeah, I’ve never been a pitcher but I would think that if you throw pitches in the zone that are called balls, it’s pretty hard to find a way to find strikes.
JMO
Why is Cody still here LOL.
The White Sox came into the series at .500 and lost 6 of their last 7.
Pretty mediocre. They look like the team that was playing the RS earlier this year. Where they don’t pitch well poor with RISP just forget how to play baseball.
o Fox humor
Thank you Trisha.
Mitre was a loser du jour last night. We didnt get cheated.
There are games in a season where we’ll get cheated. Being up on the Sox 3 games in the loss column made the umpires make the decision
“And they said Vmart cried when he found out he’d been traded.”
True story. He’s been an Indian his entire career. That’s tough on anyone, but he’ll be fine.
Brilliant comment about Posada. The Yankees had a 2.70 ERA in the 13 games after the break and he caught 11 of them. That was just a coincidence. But when they play poorly, it’s his fault.
Meanwhile, please do not call people names in your posts such as “retards.” If you are not intelligent enough to post otherwise, please do not post. The guidelines apply when when the Yankees have the nerve to be losing a game. Thanks.
This is the Yankees problem at the plate.
the pitcher walks the first batter and Ransom swings st the first pitch. Unacceptable. You can’t throw in the towel in the third inning. This is the major leagues. Ransom doesn’t belong there.
“The laziness of the team stems from an overall attitude of complacency from many members of the team, beginning with Cano.”
You are an imposter. There’s no way that the real miggs would bash Cano.
Keep crying Yankee fans
You’re gonna cry, cry, cry and you’ll cry alone,
When everyone’s forgotten and you’re left on your own.
You’re gonna cry, cry, cry.
Just another loss, but go ahead keep crying you big bunch of whiners
Just another good team they can’t beat. Granted they will make the play-offs because there are so many bad AL teams that they play. But it will be one and done.
There ya go yanks, way to lose the strong lead right before we got to play the red sox…REALLY smart playing.
This shows us..
We can beat the bad teams, but not the good ones.
WE need a lot of help
Jim, thanks – so now AJ is not a major league pitcher?
Steve B,
I would cry, too, if I got traded to Boston.
Miggs: took the words right out of my mouth for the umpteenth time on here! Well-said, the only part you left out is Girardi’s inexplicable yet undeniable hatred for Eric Hinske. Why do the beatwriters never ask him why he doesnt PLAY THE MAN!
*throws remotes at the wall*
Jake, your dumb, we jus won 2/3 at tampa
Can we just get one measly hit to put ourselves on the board?
why cant we just hit a flyball? i know they are in the majors and its not easy, but to hit a ball into the outfield isnt that much to ask.
Laura: I love Cano, but his tendencies to morph into his evil alter ego Hollywood Cano are more than a little bit frustrating. Like Posada’s defense, it’s something you can ignore when the team is playing well, but when they arent it really starts to wear on ya and fast!
And yet again, a dumb hitter going up there swinging at the first pitch and popping out with runners at 3rd with less than 2 outs.
Down 6 runs, and he is up there swinging for the fences, not even getting in 1 runner and possibly not allowing them to score a single run in the inning, down 6 runs.
These guys do not have their heads in this game, and it shows. They have not come to play any of the games in this series, and they look like they were too busy celebrating beating Tampa 2/3 to remember they still have 4 games left against a contending team.
Nice AB Swish swing at the first pitch.
Thank you, Tex.
Matt – you know that umpires always make perfect calls, right? They never make bad calls. And you know there are NEVER umpires that have strike zones for one side that differ from others right? That has NEVER happened in the history of baseball.
And then of course you know there will always be people here who would rather trash the Yankees than give them credit.
It appears that grow is thriving today.
No big deal.
Oh yeah. I think the Yankees will win today’s game.
And for whoever it was that said Girardi, Burnett, etc. didn’t argue the calls. Did you see Burnett when he walked off the mound? And did you know you can’t argue balls and strikes?
thank you
And that’s why Teixeira gets the big bucks and Swisher doesn’t.
Betsy.
I refuse to blame AJ when I know personally Tim McClelland and his tactics. This is his crew and he is making a statement.
Im not watching the game but on MLB Gameday.
“Brilliant comment about Posada. The Yankees had a 2.70 ERA in the 13 games after the break and he caught 11 of them. That was just a coincidence. But when they play poorly, it’s his fault.”
Pete, Posada is capable of having a bad game as much as anyone else is. Did you watch him yesterday? God awful doesn’t even begin to describe it. His first AB today, he failed to move over a runner. If you can slam Alex when he stinks, you have to be willing to slam others as well.
Betsy
Watched way more baseball than you… nice try though
Our guys have to swing at the first pitch because were getting cheated.
Come on Alex. Take one yard and make it 6-4
Thank goodness for Tex. Come on A-Rod, DO SOMETHING!
Matt, Just give it a rest…….This is not your brother’s Little League All-Star team……Yanks chip away
“Can we just get one measly hit to put ourselves on the board?”
Done.
Now can you chill?
McCarver has always had a man crush on Derek. Jeter might want to look into a restraining order.
This is the Yankees problem in this series.
Down 5-0 in an important game and Jeter is laughing on the bases. That’s unacceptable. This falls on Girardi.
Maybe Jeter is laughing at the umpire or Posada’s poor pitch calling.
Trish, I saw a couple of pitches. AJ just didn’t have anything today – there’s nothing wrong with admitting that. I think too many people are bashing him unfairly – I refuse to do that. He’s come up big before and he will again. As I said, you can’t work around having absolutely nothing….you can work around having iffy stuff, which he’s done before.
A Rod looks like a little leaguer
my guess is that Ransom is off the team by tuesday and Marte come up….like that matters…
I’m glad Derek can laugh about this.
Typical A Rod at bat…strike 1 looking….strike 2 swinging…strike 3 at ball in the dirt….
Well, at least they got two.
Today’s mess is not on Posada. But I’m wondering why Posada’s being ground so much. And playing a day game after a night game. Even Posada’s awesomeness can’t overcome fatigue at his age.
That wasn’t Miggs – he wouldn’t bash Cano or Posada. Also, he was not killing Cashman for not making moves…,these trolls are not very convincing, lol.
This Fox broadcasting crews SUCKS
This team is not the best offensive team in baseball, it’s plain and simple. Throw the stats out the window, because anyone who watches them knows that they can’t get the little things done that good offenses do to win games.
They don’t get runners in from 3rd with less than 2 outs, they don’t move runners up, and they swing at the first pitch way too often in spots when pitchers are in trouble. All the home runs go for naught when you are facing a dominant starting pitcher on the playoffs who overpowers you and induces weaker hit balls.
They feast on the weak pitching every time, but when it comes time to get in a key run in a close game, unless they are at home where they can just swing for the fences, they are lost at the plate and have an awful approach.
Runners on first and second and Swisher swings and pops it up…where is the plate discipline on this team?.
This is the reason why the yankees if they do make it to the playoffs will lose first round again. They have been horrible with runners in scoring position and situational hitting for so many years. You look at the championship teams, and they didn’t have all these superstars but they were effective in terms of doing the small things in terms of offense. You look at those past yankees teams and compare them to the teams of the past couple of years and you see the flaws.
What Teixiera did was what the White Sox have been doing all series.
He fell behind 0-2, so he shortened up his swing and lined an outside pitch to the opposite field for a 2-out hit.
Unfortunately, Arod did the complete opposite.
Must be a FOX game today. Burnett getting hammered.
I don’t care about options. Why is Cody Ransom on this team????? Who cares if he has to go on waivers.
BBB – agreed. Hinske sits on the bench while Cody Ransom plays? While Jerry Hairston plays? It defies logic.
This team is going to have go through a major reconstitution of its outfield next season and bullpen as well.
cashman should have done what it took to get a bum like washburn or arroyo at the deadline to at least throw some innings in the 5 spot. don’t believe the BS that some of these writers claim it would have taken to do one of those deals. the yanks can afford to pay however much salary is needed. that’s the one thing cashman is good at – wasting other people’s money.
“I’m glad Derek can laugh about this.”
I’m not going to slam Derek for not crying while on base. It’s not the top of the 9th; it’s the top of the 3rd. Derek knows that they still have a chance to win. There’s nothing wrong with him sharing a laugh with the “enemy”.
Matt, what do you think when they face Buerhle, Halladay, Beckett, and Lester coming up??
Everyone can laugh at this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
swisher and cano are terrible with men on base.they are stupid hitters. cano swings at everything does not like to get behind in the count and swisher cannot recognize a offspeed pitch..If I know this how can they not know this??
swisher cannot hit a offspeed pitch.. the guy has been in the league 6 years and can only hit fastballs…
what should jeter do? SHould he not smile unless the yare winning by 5 runs? Relax, long season clown….
bad bad series, thank g-d tex got a hit with RISP….
AJ needs to give them at least 5 regardless of the score…..
AJ needs to go at least 6 innings….hey only down by 4
Well Bryan, you must have watched the Yankees with sunglasses on if you think AJ is Jekyll and Hyde. I won’t bother enumerating his starts because it would be a complete waste of time.
RDM-
the great ‘Roid Sox were 12-13 in the month of July.
OMG!!!!!!!!! You people!!!
Quit insulting the players and our team!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posada’s pitch calling, what about the rest of the time when our team pitching is excellent!!!!!!!!!!!
Why not criticize Posada’s laziness behind the plate and in at bats sometimes.
Albalaloser isnt a real Yankee. Bash him. He is a toad.
AJ has been our stopper our starter and everything else this year. He’s earning his money.
The umpires are also earning their money from Bud Red Sox Selig. They cant cheat us in every game, or it becomes too obvious. They’ll just wait for the playoffs and then put the dagger in, and it will be up to this team to stand up and take a stand. I believe we will. 8 years of getting cheated is enough.
Betsy, since I won’t get down on a player for a poor pitching performance I have no problem saying a pitcher just doesn’t have it. I also have no problem saying when am umpire is totally porking our pitcher. Thankfully it doesn’t happen often.
So is it that Burnett doesn’t have it or that he has no zone to pitch to or no room for error? That is a rhetorical question here. (And for someone who doesn’t have it, it appears he may have found it. Odd…)
“That wasn’t Miggs – he wouldn’t bash Cano or Posada.”
That’s the part that is so pathetic about these impostors. They don’t even bother to try and “sound” like the person they are pretending to be. The SJ44 impostor works hard at it and he/she even comes close, but you can still tell that it’s a fake. This miggs faker wasn’t even close.
According to gameday, first pitch in the Quentin at bat was in the same spot as those 2 balls to Nix in the 2nd inning, and called a ball, yet again.
It doesn’t mean to me to say “at least he’s consistent,” because that pitch is RIGHT OVER the plate and HAS to be called.
it’s going to be full-on panic mode this off-season:
“We engaged, in previous days, we had some things working, things we were really excited about, and a couple that got really close, but didn’t happen,” Epstein said. “That’s par for the course in deadline season. We shot big on a couple things, a deal that could provide maximum impact. We were very aggressive in use of our own prospects, those deals got close . . . Maybe the foundation is laid for the offseason.”
http://seattletimes.nwsource.c.....packa.html
Trumpetman I have said that for the past few years. But you get all kinds of excuses on this blog that they are a great team.
the funny thing about all the complaints is that if the yankees take the lead they are the greatest,unbeatable,do no wrong team again.
i also have issues with the team though.
ransom should not be on this team,period & damon & matsui off at the same time????
swisher is a bench player.
he would be ok if he was better defensively but he is terrible.
hairston,melky,ransom???
not to good.
one regular off at a time would be nice imo.
girardi gets to creative & confident.
we need to play our best players.
i know damon,arod,matsui need time off but do they need more than a game a week off???
at least alternate the regulars.
damon
matsui
arod
tex
jeter
cano
posada
any two of them should not be off the same day as much as possible.
If you watch the White Sox at bats, they do things the right way. They make the pitcher work the count, they take the pitch the other way, they steal bases and take the extra base.
Ozzie knows the importance of this series, Girardi does not.
Good teams play good fundamental baseball.
RDM
why don’t you have some milk and cookies and take a nap or have your mommy read you a story before your nap………………………………….
This team in my opinion is the 4th or 5th best team in the AL.
Matt
You are correct the White sox do things so much better then the Yanks so my question for you is why do the yanks have a 10 game better record????
BTW please respond…
“Brilliant comment about Posada. The Yankees had a 2.70 ERA in the 13 games after the break and he caught 11 of them. That was just a coincidence. But when they play poorly, it’s his fault.”
No, Pete, not coincidence…fortunate. Folks who know describe Poasada’s pitch calling as ‘predictable.’ That may not have much effect when working against a young or undisciplined lineup. Against experienced hitters with good preparation…
simple solution: change your handle like you change your socks.
“That wasn’t Miggs – he wouldn’t bash Cano or Posada. Also, he was not killing Cashman for not making moves…,these trolls are not very convincing, lol.”
Good catch.
Posada’s..Sorry
I wouls Stuart, but my mom passed away last September at 68 due to pancreatic cancer. I would give anything for her to read me a story.
Old Fox announcer- Were you surprised the Yankees didnt make more of a splash than Jerry Hairston Jr.?
McCarver- I don’t think so. I don’t think so…
WHAT?????? Can’t even commit to an opinion lol
Burnett did not “just not have it” today. He got completely and utterly killed by an awful home plate umpire, and in his frustration in falling behind on pitches that were clearly strikes, he overthrew a few and laid them in there.
Burnett had it in the first inning and the third inning, and until the “walk” on a pitch that was clearly right over home plate. So if he had it for almost all of the game, then why did he get lit up?
Clearly because the bad calls unnerved him, and how can you blame him when he made as many PERFECT pitches as he did with runners on base and NONE were called?
bru,
if you criticize the team, all you get on here is
‘you could manage the team 162=0. Ridiculous perverted comments.
Ya know what Ive been advocating for years. Im tired of these friendships between Jeter and Pedroia. When umpires cheat you, have AJ throw it right to Posada high. Let posada duck and drill these perverted umpires. Put in ALbala loser and let him drill people.
RDM-
Being a ‘roid sox fan shorten her life span.
This team is inconsistent. That is why I am looking forward to more young guys from the farm and new players coming up because this team has been inconsistent since 2004. We need new blood, and yes Posada has not been a good catcher of late.
Posada has been horrible…h
Posada should be on the bench the way he has been playing.
Just terrible. Swinging at the first pitch. Lousy defense last night. Inept pitch calling.
If the Yankees don’t shake things up this funk will last for a long time.
The white sox did it in this series!!!!!! Their in 2nd or 3rd place for a reason. Let’s see them against the REd Sox.
Rajai Davis did everything against the Red Sox that a professional hitter would do. I like Rajai even if he does it against us.
Lets see this bum white sox team do it against them.
Some easy outs here. Posada has been terrible with the bat this series. He can’t wait to get back in the dugout.
Sorry to read that but really the negative whining gets old.
For people to say the whitesox play better baseball then the yanks but the yanks have a 10 game better record why does that statement even make the blog? It is stupid on it’s face. The yanks are 10 games better then the sox not 2………….
Others of us have lost family members also my point is you sound like s poiled baby….
Fritz Peterson was just on radio with Sterling. He’s got a new book coming out this week, talking about Mantle and Munson. He also explains the complete and factual events of “the trade”. He’ll be in NY and NJ to sign books next week. Should be an interesting and fun read. Peterson was a very good pitcher on some of the worst Yanee teams in history.
“If you watch the White Sox at bats, they do things the right way. They make the pitcher work the count, they take the pitch the other way, they steal bases and take the extra base.”
Matt, did you see them against MIN? They don’t always do the right things, just like every other team in baseball.
Hairston off to a good start.
Laura – i assume you never played the game, and it seems like you don’t spend much time watching it either (or at least understanding what you’re watching)
some of your comments are so uninformed. You might want to find another hobby.
Don’t The Yanks lead all of baseball in bsae on balls …..Runs scored, 2nd in team hitting, plating over .600 ball…….
Whomever it was that asked about Hairston Jr.? Okay, it wasn’t a stand-up triple, but I think we can let him stay for a day or so!
We need new blood, and yes Posada has not been a good catcher of late.
——————-
maybe posada needs some a transfusion from some young guy
Wow FOX broadcasters are being extremely solicitous of the Yankees today. What’s up with that???
How can anyone think Posada is playing well these last 2 games?
Down 4 runs, and he goes up there swinging at the first pitch, then chases a ball and grounds out. In the second inning, runner at 2nd, no outs, HITTER’S COUNT even, and he fails to advance the runner.
Last night, he allows a steal of home by not paying attention, and then drops a throw at the plate to allow a run to score that is in plenty of time.
Whether he’s been good for us or not, he’s been very bad these last 2 games, and there’s no denying that.
Hairston is impressing. Do something here, Ransom. Draw a walk, get HBP, anything…
100 bucks says ransom K’s
i don’t understand why hes on this team still
McCarver about to cry cause Joba can’t pitch 200 innings.
Great job Cody!!!! You LOSER!!!
Cody Ransom = needs to be traded asap.
John you are a genious
when you know that someone is going to strike out, and he still does….i think it is time for that guy to hit the road. It would be understanding if ransom could play defense, but he can’t do that either…it really doesn’t make any sense
Come on, everybody together… DFA Ransom.
Although Posada is playing terrible..he is 100 times better than Molina. We need to get rid of molina andbring back C-man.
GreenBeret7-
I wish Fritz Peterson would write a book about swapping wives with Mike Kekich.
I agree with Cody. Put him on waivers. Still, five more innings.
Thanks Bru. It has been a very tough year for our family.
LOL @ Cody he cant get a hit unless it is a fastball down the middle. But he is on this team because he is “versatile”
They had their chance. Duncan needed to stay and Ransom needed to GO!
This is the Yankees problem at the plate.
RISP and they can’t come through. Ransom should not be on a ML roster. He was up there guessing fastball and it never came.
He should be guessing in the minor leagues.
Posada needs to be on the bench until he decides he wants to play like a major leaguer again.
For the love of god
DFA him already !!!!!
COdy Ransom is on this team also because of friendships or what not. I dont blame Cashman for not making a deal. Thats other GMS conspiring against us. I blame him for Cody still being on this team. He may be worse thaN Andy Phillips, or Darrell Rasner.
Actually, we could use Rasner right about now.
Look at this.
2 on, 2 out, and CODY FREAKING RANSOM coming up with us down 4 runs and a chance to get back in this game.
You really cannot make this stuff up. Possibly the worst player in all of MLB, and we START HIM in games. How can you defend this move?
We have a bench with Eric Hinske on it, who can play RF while Swisher plays 1B. Yet, we’d rather kill our rally, our defense, and take out a guy who’s been on fire every time he plays in Hinske, to play CODY FREAKING RANSOM.
Who knows how many runs they have not scored because of Ransom today? He came up after Hairston fought out a walk, and popped out on the first pitch. We scored 2 in that inning, who knows how much more we score with a competent hitter up there. Then now, 1st and 3rd, 2 outs, down 4, a base hit or two and we are back in it, and he strikes out on a bunch of pitches out of the zone. Who knows how many we score if Hinske or someone else is up there and gets a big hit?
I don’t get it one bit. You are playing the worst player in the entire major leagues in key games against contending teams? Why? With the acquisition of Hairston, they have a player who can play every position he plays, and MUCH BETTER than he does.
Why get mad at Ransom? He’s a fringe player.
Get mad at your stars who go up there and do absolutely nothing.
How” can anyone think Posada is playing well these last 2 games?”
You can’t. However, in general he’s been quite good, doing his job both offensively and defensively, and doing it well.
Why isnt Hinske at 1st base today. He’s got to have a better shot of hitting Danks than Cutie Handsome.
GB, I was listeing to the brief interview as well……He was a good pitcher, along with Stan Bahnson ( ? ), Mel Stot, Mike Ketich….Actually they were putting together a good rotation…..Everyone was traded off before Steinbrenner bought the team…..
“Cody Ransom = needs to be traded asap.”
FOR Angel Berroa !!!!!!!
“They had their chance. Duncan needed to stay and Ransom needed to GO!”
He’s not any better than Cody but srsly DFA CODY ! DFA HIM! trade Shelley if you can off waivers..IDK but both need to be gone ASAP
Ransom is just dreadful. I can’t stand watching him leave a small country on base every time up. We would be better off just having Burnett hit in that spot.
Posada has barely had any days off since the break. Girardi has been playing him a lot.
We saw Molina the first game of the series. When did he last start before that?
Matt you are probably the most annoying person on the planet.
M, I’ll get mad at Girardi who I’ve almost had it up to HERE with.
Regardless of whether we win or lose, if AJ can give us a few more decent innings, it will be a big help.
These announcers are horrible. That wasn’t even close to being a 3 bagger.
I wish Fritz Peterson would write a book about swapping wives with Mike Kekich.
As I said, that’s what part of the book is about, and not just what the press wrote.
Aj really struggling.
Yeah. I love the yankees but I will admit the flaws of the team. This team and organization has been flawed since 2004. Not getting the right pitchers, waiting late to develop the farm, spending money on superstar hitters who will never fit as a yankee. This team has always been centered around solid role players not superstars, dominate pitching in the rotation and the pen. And if you have a superstar at least have an effective one.
“Why get mad at Ransom? He’s a fringe player.
Get mad at your stars who go up there and do absolutely nothing.”
B/c HE’S STILLLLLLLL HERE!
he is hitting under .200 and has a .911 at 3rd base which is really why he is here. Pena is a better option, he can actually play defense
Im not angry at Ransom. I know hes a loser. I wish hed step up like a man and say Im a bum, please DFA me. But he cares about himself, not the Yankees.
Ransom has versatility of striking out. He can do it any number of ways on any number of pitches in any nubmer of locations.
What’s the score? We behind by 6 to 10 runs of the AL Central Sox?
Let’s see if the White Sox get this run in.
That hit was all on Posada.
He is lazy and not good at framing the pitches. It’s no wonder he isn’t getting calls. Burnett has to lay a cookie in on 3-1 and it never should have gotten that far. You need to give the pitcher a solid target.
umm if you guys have aim…can we make a chatroom..because updating is annoying..??
^^^^^^^
Good for you Joe!
Pete, ask Girardi straight up in these exact words, “Why the hell is Ransom on this team, seriously?” It needs to be done.
hairston is a nice bench player.
we did good getting him.
if we only had a good defensive rf with some pop,a # 3 starter we would be ok.
i would play hinske a little more.
20 hr/60 rbi in 387 at bats last year.
hinske hit a hr every 19 ab last year,swisher was at almost every 21 ab.
You people say Ransom is just a fringe player and you can’t criticize him… well that’s the POINT.
Ransom has already left 3 guys on base today. So the question is, why is he in the lineup? You can’t bury him ANYWHERE in this lineup, and you have players who are for more capable who can play the SAME positions, so why would you EVER let this guy start a game?
You act like it’s no big deal to just bury him in the 9 hole and give someone a day off, well guess what? You do that, and these spots will find him, they always will. Ransom is just a fringe player, but his at bats today with runners on base have pretty much killed 2 rallies that we had a chance to fight back with earlier in this game.
Pete wants Ransom on this team, why would he ask that question. He wants Ransom to hinder the NYY. Hed rather go after ARod
Cody Ransom is a beast…He hit .450 for his high school team
GB, I was listeing to the brief interview as well……He was a good pitcher, along with Stan Bahnson ( ? ), Mel Stot, Mike Ketich….Actually they were putting together a good rotation…..Everyone was traded off before Steinbrenner bought the team…..
————————————————————
People forget that Peterson won 20 games for a bad 1970 team. For the life of me, I’ve never understood the Bahnson trade to Chicago for Rich McKinney straight up. The most idiotic trade in 50 years for the Yanks.
Matt,
I’m not going to argue with you. And I don’t know why you’d want to. I’m basically your only ally here.
Im not angry at Ransom. I know hes a loser. I wish hed step up like a man and say Im a bum, please DFA me. But he cares about himself, not the Yankees.”
Give me a break.
He has a family to look out for, and he is doing what any sane individual would do. He may not be the best player in baseball (I think he blows, and I want him off the team), but if the Yankees are going to employ him, he’s going to stay on the team.
Of course he and his family take rank over the Yankees. You’d have to be insane to put an organization over your own well-being.
Matt certainly has a lot of passion for the Yankees. Unfortunately, it’s all negative.
Burnett will not throw anything in the dirt because he is afraid Posada won’t be able to block it. That is key with two strikes. You are taking away one of Burnett’s weapons. Posada will never be a good defender.
m -
Im not an ‘ally’, but I certainly see a lot of Matt’s points, considering I’ve had the same ones for the past 18 years.
What happens is, our team is usually excellent or good enough to compete. But we are inconsistent. We get lazy and start swinging at first pitches, playing lax, etc.
That’s a philosophy.
I see the RS do it too occasionally. 2007, not so much, and hey hey, they won.
Cody Ransom – today’s goat.
Well at least this place is predictable, lol.
The most idiotic trade in 50 years for the Yanks”
Frank Costanza: Why the hell did you trade Jay Buhner?
G. Steinbrenner: My people kept telling me “Ken Phelps! Ken Phelps!”
I can’t be the only one who notices the fact that Matt never posts on this blog unless the Yankees are doing poorly.
If the Yankees are winning, he doesn’t post. However, the minute the Yanks start to struggle, he is on here throughout the entire ballgame.
the reason posada is on this team is that he rooked them into giving him a ridiculously lengthy and above-market contract after a career season, same as Mussina, Giambi, etc. I’m afraid we are stuck with him for the next few seasons.
Matt is 100% spot on.
“Matt certainly has a lot of passion for the Yankees. Unfortunately, it’s all negative.”
Some would call that sadomasochism.
You people do realize that there are 2 people posting under the name “Matt?”
The ones blaming Posada for not framing pitches are a different Matt.
Eights ———————–
Ya know what I’d say,
I’d say, Im being honest here Brian. Im not any good, Ill never get a job anywhere else. Please employ me for 200k as your bat boy because I enjoy being around the guys. 200k is enough for me!!! and Cash and/or Steinbrenners might respect his honesty and reward him.
Matt was that in the dirt or right over the plate cuz Gameday said so????
“keep posting Matt you are hilarious with your blaming of the umpires and Posada keep going”
I don’t like Matt or his whinning but in the 2nd inning it was the umpire.
White Sox pitcher looking kinda weak, i feel we can still win this game.
“If the Yankees are winning, he doesn’t post. However, the minute the Yanks start to struggle, he is on here throughout the entire ballgame.”
I say that to Matt every time he shows up. He just ignores me now.
It stinks that Burnett had such a horrible 2nd inning, because he’s been okay the rest of the game.
No Eights, you are wrong, and I already disproved that last night.
But keep going on in an attempt to discredit it. Whether you like when I post or not, if the point is valid, it doesn’t matter whether I’m not cheerleading while they lose ballgames.
I jsut saw the pitch to Nix for the walk that was strike three. knee high, right down the middle. but to be suprised that a ump got the call wrong is ridiculous they make bad calls many many times a game..
on the Ransom front, the yanks for some reason think having the best player on the roster usually only matters for about the first 23 players.. I do not understand that. the sux just got kotchman, he will be a defensive replacement probably until next year..
why do the yanks take forever to get rid of the likes of tomko and ransom.. Getting rid of guyd like veras I will cut them some slack, he is younger and had decent success last year but again does Ransom do anything outstanding? Minky was a great fielder, Duncan can strike out just like Ransom and on occassion he can run into the ball and hita Jack……..
Well, gotta run for the day. Doesn’t look promising at all today and for the next two games. If the Yanks lose and win tom and Tuesday, will make up for it. Have a good day all and talk to you all later.
Eights -
Why do the Red Sox take less money than go somewhere else. Why did Keith Foulke retire so the Red Sox didnhave to pay him anymore. Then try to make a comeback. The RS brainwash their players to think team first.
I had to refresh my handle.
Im not angry at Ransom. I know hes a loser. I wish hed step up like a man and say Im a bum, please DFA me. But he cares about himself, not the Yankees.”
Is this comment for real? That Ransom should acknowledge that he’s a crappy player and ask the Yankees to DFA him? Am I reading that right?
It’s time to clean house. Posada is old and needs to retire soon, I can’t wait till next year whe we get rid of these old superstars like damon and matsui. I appreciate what they have done but they aren’t real yankees. Bring a Paul O neill type of player who has grit and fire and wants to win.
Jim,
Everyone called out Matt for being stupid, and I was the only one that I know of that defended his right to speak his mind.
But if he’s going to question my awesomeness, then I just might change my mind.
And he does have his points, like Posada not being able to block that curveball. But, I don’t think it’s an luxury they can afford right now, being 6-2.
And Ransom isn’t the only one guilty of stranding runners, so y’alls need to chill.
Hmm..strike 1 to Jeter looked like the same exact pitch Getz walked on.
At least AJ is holding them down….just bad 2nd inning
Matt -
I think everybody’s point here is
Maybe you could be a little positive when our team makes the right decisions. Works at bats, goes the opposite ways, gets runners in from 3rd w/ less than 2 out, etc.
Apparently its BYO TinFoil Hat Day on the blog.
I only post the truth. If you cheerleaders don’t want to hear it, that’s your problem. Take off the rose colored glasses.
You can’t give games away in the middle of a pennant race.
Laura,
Again, I already proved you guys wrong last night, but keep trying that argument. It only makes you look bad yourself to keep making things up to attempt to discredit people just because you don’t like people that dare criticize a guy who is not pulling his weight who you happen to love.
Jim,
You’re a Yankees fan. You care if the Yankees win or lose.
While I am sure Ransom likes to win, he’s in the game to make money. He plays to provide for his family and himself, winning is not the focus of his life.
It’s a common fact that the fans care more about the game than the players. Ransom has a family to provide for, and a lifestyle he wants to maintain. Like I said earlier, he’d be insane to give that all up because he sucks.
Would you take a paycut at work because you couldn’t perform your job to the standards of your co-workers? Even if your boss was fine with the way you were performing?
They NEED to come baack and win this one today
Yanks down by 4…but we have 2 men on and Shelly coming to bat…he’s been hot in AAA…25 HR’s…Can get us in game…
Oops sorry…it’s Cody…strike 3.
This guy is an idiot.
Fox blows.
8-0 White sox
Yes Angel. You’re reading it right.
Take a loot at my 5:36 pm comment.
So there are two Matts posting. Well, can one of you change your handle so that we know which is which? The Matt that only comes around when we are losing….can you change your handle to “Negative Matt”?
Ransom is on this team until they are ready to bring Pena back up. All year they’ve been going with 2 utility infielders.
DFA Ransom they only have one. So look for Cody to be gone by September.
“And Ransom isn’t the only one guilty of stranding runners, so y’alls need to chill.”
I get that, no one is saying it’s all him, but com’on man against other divison teams ace’s Cody Ransom? Cody? Cody for real? really? I mean really?, Cody?
Him ?
When your pitching struggles, the hitters have to step up once in a while.
This offense gives away at bats when they are down in games. You can say how much they comeback all you want, but it’s almost exclusively at home where they can swing for the fences.
They don’t grind out at bats when they are down in games the same way they do when they are winning, and it’s quite apparent. They are well within reach of this game, but not the way they are going up there hacking away at so many pitches out of the zone.
I agree Matt has the right to say what he wants to. He does. I’m going to be skipping over his stuff from now on because of that.
But people also have the right to comment that he contributes nothing but essays of negativity on here too. There has been more than one person making that observation, they can’t all be wrong.
Eights -
Its called honor, being an honorable man. If 200k isnt enough for him to provide his family with and just hang out with the guys, then he obviously has no honor.
I would pay the Yankees part of my retirement to help them get players. But, if I did and the press caught wind of it, George Steinbrenner and his kids would be made fools of on ESPN and everywhere.
lol @ the people who think that Ransom should DFA himself for the good of the team.
How about Swisher stop stumbling and bumbling his way through games?
How about hitters waiting for a good pitch to hit?
How about everyone hustling out of the box?
guess is that D-Rob pitches the 6th…i would ride melancon other day
well let’s at least talk about something interesting without attacking each other for once.
What does everyone do for a living? I guess I’ll start – i’m in retail (car sales)
This is the Yankees problem at the plate.
Three straight outs to the third baseman. Instead of trying to take the ball the other way, they are all trying to pull the ball. You can’t hit a four run homer!
Girardi needs to have a team meeting. It’s getting ugly.
“Again, I already proved you guys wrong last night, but keep trying that argument. ”
We lost last night, Matt. Had a horrible game in fact. Of course you were here. How did you prove me wrong? Fill me in because, remember – I was at the game last night and didn’t have the privilege of reading your positive posts.
Matt is 100% spot on.
———————————————————-
posada is not the reason we are losing this game.
it is pitching.
pitching wins & we have not been consistent & have no 5th starter.
posada has 13 hr/47 rbi in 242 ab.he is not the problem.
burnett has been inconsistent his whole career,sabathia struggles more than the top,top pitchers this year,pettitte is pettitte,joba just turned it around & we need a 5th or 3rd starter.
also if we only split against the rs we are way ahead.
we are either going to get it done or we are not.
we will see.only time will tell.
if our pitching does the job we will be there in the end if it doesn’t we are not going anywhere.
what about trading molina,bring up cervelli,get rid of ransom,bring up pena & give ajax a few at bats.
if he doesn’t work out send him down???
Posada is old. What do you expect he is washed up behind the dish but can still hit. And I won’t even talk about Ransom because he is a idiot and a loser. Any team would have DFA him by now. The yankees are the only team that I know that loves to keep the biggest losers on the team for an extended period.
Burnett had one bad inning, but it was mostly set up by a few missed calls that let it unravel. Other than that, he has more than done his job and kept the team well within reach by not allowing any additional runs.
However, our offense has put up nothing since Teixeira’s 2-run single that bailed out Nick Swisher’s TERRIBLE at bat. Other than that one hit, the Yankees have pretty much spit the bit all day at the plate.
“How about Swisher stop stumbling and bumbling his way through games?
How about hitters waiting for a good pitch to hit?
How about everyone hustling out of the box?”
I vote for all three.
So he’s selfish because he’s a *crap* player who wants to play (MLB is full of them btw, not everyone is an A-Rod talent) when he should just own up to being a crap player (or get the Red Sox to brainwash him), tell the Yankees to DFA him so he’s not *selfishly* hurting them by his crap player status?
For the honor of the blog, perhaps a couple of you (you and everyone else knows who you are) should DFA yourselves.
well let’s at least talk about something interesting without attacking each other for once.
What does everyone do for a living? I guess I’ll start – i’m in retail (car sales)
I work at a public library…And I wear my Yankee hat every single day..Goin on 3 yrs now…I’m surprised I haven’t been fired yet
I may be late to the party with this, but can anyone on the face of God’s green Earth explain to me why Cody Ransom started at first, and Swisher in right, when they could have started Swisher at first, and Hinske in right?
Not that it matters when your pitcher puts you down by 6 in the second inning. But they aren’t even getting a chance to get back in to it when there is a black hole in your offense named Cody Ransom.
Great. He can jump high. How very nice for him. When jumping high adds 100 points to your batting average, THEN he’ll be a serviceable player. Until such a time, he’s batting below .200, and with other options, there is absolutely no excuse for him to playing at the major league level, let alone STARTING.
Pete, please have Girardi clarify this.
There are people in other professions who recognize their limitations, and step down. In all walks of life, you are going to find people that understand what they can and cannot do. Why should Cody Ransom be any different. Because he is posing as a baseball player.
Cody should resign and get a Golden parachute from Brian Cashman. A 200k a year job in the front office.
well let’s at least talk about something interesting without attacking each other for once.
What does everyone do for a living? I guess I’ll start – i’m in retail (car sales)
You were there last night, Laura?
My sympathies.
very nice attempt at the catch!
We need to find a way to get AJP out. Every time I look around, he’s on base.
Feinsand: “I tell you what. Sergio Mitre has one more bad outing, I think you bring up Kei Igawa.”
Suzyn (moan): “Nooo”
Feinsand: “It can’t get much worse.”
Suzyn: (in her irritating nasal tone) “Nooo. It caaannn.”
STHU Suzyn, he’s a Yankee, get over it.
I hate AJ Pierzynski.. i haven’t said that today yet.
Lol at the White Sox mascot behing home plate.
“You were there last night, Laura?
My sympathies.”
Thanks, Angel. It was pretty bad.
Terrible pitch call there from Posada. That could have easily been a three run homer. You can’t call that pitch there. You just can’t. Burnett has no confidence in Posada.
Laura,
I was here all night, whether they were winning or losing. I post when I want to do, I don’t just come here when they are losing. Sorrrrryy that I don’t sit here every day and night and post on the Yankees blog! I don’t waste my time posting the obvious cheerleading, I’d rather take that time and actually watch the game rather than sitting on a blog all night.
PL – awesome!
keep it up!!
why are the white sox allowed to have their bright green mascot running around behind the plate? i noticed in tampa that there was some dude in a bright blue shirt walking back and forth behind the plate while the yankees were on the mound as well…
Who is worse to listen to?
Loser anti-Yankee McCarver or Drunk John Sterling?
Laura – I’m going to have to call BS on you being at the game last night. You take everyone here for a fool?
The game was in Chicago, not NY.
Angel -
Yes, he is selfish and there are plenty of selfish players.
The thing with Cody is, and there are others, he provides nothing on the baseballfield. He provides negative by a long shot.
Ask B-Cash or the Steinbrenners for a nice cushy job and help our team. It’s pretty simple, I would do it in a heartbeat. Heck, I want to work for the Yankees as a janitor so I can say Im a part of the NYY organization.
matt – your posts today are a joke. maybe if you show up with something positive one day people will listen to you.
Just need 1 more out AJ
How are the white sox only 2 games over .500? They look like world beaters against us.
The yankees need to clean house. Get rid of the dead weight and the old. This team needs to go back to doing things the right way like they during the 90′s. Heck even 2001-2003.
2004-2009 has been one failure after another. Inconsistency.
Jim, baseball is FULL of Cody Ransom type players. Have a look at the World Series winning teams of the last 8 years, most teams managed to win carrying a Cody Ransom type player.
Have a look on every single team in the Majors.. you’re going to find a Cody Ransom type on each of them… maybe even more than a couple if you look more than once at the Pittsburgh Pirates lineup, lol.
Not every player is an A-Rod talent.
Tom B- the guy at the Tampa games was the caveman from the Geico company ads. My friend told me that he is the son of the guy who started that company (that’s why he is in their ads) and they have a ton of money.
The crazy thing is that he looks nothing like his parents either! I think it’s a medical thing.
be carefull.
the truth when it comes to opinions is a funny thing.
you can watch & critisize any team in baseball the same way.
what happens if the yankees win the ws this year?
is what you are saying the truth???
SAAAON did a fangraph on him and determined Cody’s value to the Yankees is according to FG he’d have to pay us 2 milllion.
Maybe the Knicks can sign Cody Ransom. The guy can jump.
Wangawa,
They’re 2 games over .500 because the Yankees came to town!
trumpetman… where’s the closest bridge to your house. i hid 1 million dollars under it but you have to jump off to get it.
“How are the white sox only 2 games over .500? They look like world beaters against us.”
They are looking good against us because we are looking bad. If you had seen them against MIN and DET, you’d know why they are barely over .500.
She lives in Chicago, Miggs.
“STHU Suzyn, he’s a Yankee, get over it.”
She’s absolutely right, though. There’s a reason Mitre is getting another start: Igawa is NOT a major league pitcher. If he was, Mitre wouldn’t have been brought up in the first place. He was a huge mistake to sign. It is not unreasonable to not want to see him at the major league level. Personally, I’d like to go and purchase the Japanese pitching robot, and insert him in to the rotation, because NONE of the yahoos we have as options are worth the paper on which their contracts are printed.
Don’t you even think of bringing Gas Can Bruney in.
They hit these well placed ball to other way.
“Jim, baseball is FULL of Cody Ransom type players. Have a look at the World Series winning teams of the last 8 years, most teams managed to win carrying a Cody Ransom type player.”
Not that type.
saucer fan i saw that guy. maybe it was the game before that, there was this big fat guy in a baby blue staff shurt walking back and forth in front of that black sign they had set up in the middle of our innings.
Wait, that was the same pitch as he threw to Nix in the 2nd inning? Oh look, it was called a strike, because it is one. Funny.
“Laura – I’m going to have to call BS on you being at the game last night. You take everyone here for a fool?
The game was in Chicago, not NY.”
If you were the real miggs, you would know that I live in Chicago. But since you are a horrible faker, you are the one who is full of BS.
I would disagree they’re selfish. I think what they bring to the team is the very opposite of selfish, but that’s just me.
Angel -
the problem is, we are the NYY, we want to win every year. Jerry Hairston is a serviceable player. Cody Ransom is like a piece of Buchholz on the bottom of a shoe.
Ransom is only here this long because of some loyalty. Ive seen him hanging around ARod in the dugout. Maybe he’s buddies with Arod, cuz he certainly cant be trying to hit like him.
Ewwwwwwwww….4-24 RISP
Jim,
You never answered my question. Would you quit your job, or take a paycut, if you knew you weren’t performing as well as your co-workers?
Your boss isn’t even the one telling you you’re fired or that your pay is being reduced. Your boss is fine with the way your performing, or at least not upset about it enough to do anything about it.
Would you still, voluntarily, take the paycut and/or quit? I mean, it is the honorable thing to do.
She lives in Chicago miggs
Donnie,
Of course she’s right. But she should keep that opinion to herself IMO.
2-2 breaking ball, SAME SPOT, OVER THE PLATE, called a ball. Unbelievable.
“She lives in Chicago, Miggs.”
Angel, that’s not the real miggs. The real miggs knows that I live in Chicago.
There are many people in this world who do the honorable thing, the right thing to do. Why cant Cody be one of those people? There is nothing wrong or stupid of him to recognize that he is incapable of playing the game of baseball correctly in any way, shape or form. If he continues to suck money from the Yankees while being a detriment then he is worse than TO, Chad Johnson and every other primadonna athlete that everyone despises.
What is it with Nix? He’s killed us the whole series.
GAME OVER. Disgraceful. Walks the number 9 hitter TWICE with bases loaded. And since the Rat Orioles always roll over against Boston, that’s all tied up in the loss column.
POSADA Is really bad.
How the hell can Burnett walk Nix TWICE with the bases loaded?
Does this mean Johnny Damon is gonna have to talk to AJ?
burnett has been terrible in big games this year for the yanks
Yech – no offense Laura, chicago is an awful city to live in.
never liked it. So many hill billies there (and all overweight)
3 pitches in that at bat were clearly strikes, called balls.
This umpire is a freaking joke, and then he called the same pitch he called ball 4 earlier in the game a STRIKE?
These guys get the biggest passes in the world, and they are so awful at what they do.
wow, nice going AJ. Way to earn the big bucks. Walk in 2 runs.
“Not that type.”
What type is that, Brandon? Is Cody Ransom a special type of utility player I’m not aware of? lol
2 bases-loaded walks to Jayson Nix? In the same game? Gutless Burnett.
Fake miggs? Forget that smiley face
fangraphs has ransom’s value as -$2.1 million. 6th worst in baseball. Vernon Wells, Emilio Bonifacio, Willy Taveras, Jeff Francoeur, and Jason Giambi are the only players worse than him.
At this point, my fantasy team hopes Podsednik goes yard. Screw it, there’s no way we’re winning this game today, I might as well get SOMETHING out of it.
“2-2 breaking ball, SAME SPOT, OVER THE PLATE, called a ball. Unbelievable”
Little low and away. Not a strike
You did mention that – i had forgotten that’s where you lived.
Is there a man crush anywhere in sports history that even comes close to rivaling Girardi’s love for Ransom?
Seriously, I watch all of the Big 3 sports and can’t even think of a single one that is even half as bad. I’ve seen Pat Riley show inexplicable man love for so-so players, but nothing like this, never a player this bad, ever.
I feel bad to hate on Ransom b/c it’s not like he ever claimed to be anything other than what he is. This is on Girardi and he’s taken it WAAAYYY over the top. DFA CODY NOW!!!
What does the booth say about the strike zone, Matt?
I’ve got Dodgers and I’m blocked out on mlb.tv
what is the logic…what is the fu ckin logic..make him beat u..i mean twice? in the same game? to a nobodyy….burnett comeon man comeonn
“the problem is, we are the NYY, we want to win every year.”
Uhhh, you lost me right there.
Burnett didn’t pitch well but he did get squeezed on the first walk bases loaded walk by Nix.
Oh well Burnett has been pitching really well lately cant really get upset with him.
Tom B
LOL
The goats for this game are Ransom, Posada and the umpires.
bruney only has a few more appearances to turn things around..
we need him to figure things out
Burnett got cheated today again with the same hitter. Maybe this umpire is friends with Nix family.
wow – this sucks
They have done it to us all year. Go on a little streak to tease us, then MELT away when it counts. This team is gutless and mirrors their manager. I bet Fatso gets beat tomorrow too.
ya Matt Burnett pitched great.. especially the 12 baserunners in 4 and 2/3..
Baseball is full of Jerry Hairston Jr type players and Eric Hinske type players. NOT Cody Ransom type players. The Newark Bears are most likely brimming with Cody Ransoms, but thats about it.
Even in AAA he would only be what, the 3rd best 1b on the SWB team? (assuming Juan Miranda still exists, havent rly been following him since it’s glaringly obvious he’ll never get a chance w/big club)
Wow. Must’ve been bad if Christina25 is seeing the same thing.
Hell ! Maybe they should DFA the entire team LOL !
If we played like this before the deadline Cash def would of did something.
I guess we picked a bad time to go on that roll
The last time AJ pitched this badly, he went on a terrific run.
Looking forward to the same thing happening again.
purenyyankee you are totally right since the 62 wins 20 more then losses do not count.
only the losses when they play count the wins don’t count to idiots like you………
http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/1359/umpires.jpg
Here are the Gameday zones on those 2 bases loaded walks to Nix.
No way you can deny that the umpire is squeezing him unfairly after seeing those.
“Go on a little streak to tease us,”
Somewhere, 46-20 = a little streak
First of all, your question is not accurate. Cody Ransom is not performing at all. It’s not that he’s not performing as well as his other coworkers, it is that he is not performing well enough to be on a little league team.
Yes, If i was no good at what I did for a living, and nobody had a problem with me detracting from the company, then that company is not interested in getting any better, and they are content with mediocrity.
By trade, I am an accountant. If I was the worst accountant in my firm, or better, the worst accountatn in the country, Id want to be something that I could do better.
So to answer your question, yes.
Given these circumstance, I would go to the Steinbrenners and ask them to give me a nice cushy job because I enjoy baseball but where I would not be hurting the NYY.
“the problem is, we are the NYY, we want to win every year”
Uh, yeah, cause there’s nothing more detrimental for a ballclub than trying to win every year. Pass that right over here man!
However, the Yankees certainly were not trying to win yesterday when they sat on their hands and failed to acquire a starter or reliever!
At least the Yanks can carouse Chicago all night long.
I’m sure ARod has 2 cougars who look like tammy fae baker waiting in his suite.
AJ has had a good season by basically all accounts and particularly the last couple of months. But you have to question him and CC sometimes this year in some of the more “important” games. And it’s just the little things sometimes with AJ…like today they showed that he had not given up a bases loaded walk all year…and he has 2 to the #9 hitter today in a game that we needed him to be strong against their #2. Does it mean that he has choked because he struggled today and has not beaten the Red Sox either? Not really…but it’s something you have to talk about.
So this is what I have noticed. Every once-in-a-while you will get a bunch of posters commenting on the strike zone at the same time, and commenting on particular pitches at the same time. It doesn’t happen every game, nor does it happen every time the Yankees are losing. But when it does happen it really kind of impresses me because it means that there is probably something amiss.
I saw that today. I was part of the chorus. The inning where AJ got killed the strike zone was nonexistent. When you don’t get calls that are right down the middle, you start to waste pitches because you are forced to. Your pitches add up, AB can turn into faux walks, and it becomes a mess.
Whether or not Burnett had his best stuff today, he got hurt by the ump. There is no shame in admitting that. Sometimes umps can affect the outcome of the game. It does happen.
Essentially, If i was the worst accountatn in the world, and I didnt get fired, I’d be content with living my life as a sham.
cody ransom is living his life as a sham, because he is not a baseball player.
Now we will see the yankees once again fail with runners in scoring position like they have been doing for so many years now.
Hey Stuart. We had a 3 1/2 game lead and were cruising. This team should have 70 wins with a manager that had a clue. They have gone through the motions in all three of these games.
m
“What does the booth say about the strike zone, Matt?”
ChiSox radio announcers on MLB saying the ump has given several gifts to Nix.
If only George Steinbrenner was still alive — he’d put a stop to this slump, immediately!
“Whether or not Burnett had his best stuff today, he got hurt by the ump.”
The ump wasn’t nearly the problem his pitching was. He had a bad day. First one in awhile. He pitched to the boxscore. H wasn’t good. That’s the way it goes.
Posada wanted that to be a strike so he could hit a 2 run jack…darn
don’t watch Cano up 2 on zero outs.
what are the odds that he swings at the first pitch?
backbench,
Thanks. “Gifts” is an understatement. lol.
Leave it to ARod to smack one in a NONE clutch situation
here we go….this is big
cano DP, count on it
if cano swings 3 and 0 he should be shot…
“Leave it to ARod to smack one in a NONE clutch situation”
Gotta start somewhere. No such thing as a 5 run homer.
not a first place team at all, first place is boston’s by tomorrow night
Hey, Mr. Homeplate! You owe us a couple.
oh wow, big spot here for the bottom of the order
ransom should be pinch hit for this inning………………
move swisher to first
o man melky come on now
come on hairston
Rich,
very good summation, I agree. Both AJ & CC haven’t been bad but they are supposed to be the leaders and stoppers and yet more “big games” than not, they have not done well for whatever reason. If they Yanks don’t come back to win today, I don’t particularly feel great abt CC tomorrow, esp against Buerle.
All you strike zone whiners want to talk about Ball 4 to Cano?
Steve B -
The point is AROD always hits when we’re up by 3 runs or down by 5 runs, and never in between.
that was a bad call
melky is the key AB get a run in anyway
That was not even CLOSE, wow.
Umm that’s not a strike.
how was that a strike and burnett pitches were not
Well AJ gave up 1 more than CC,WITH LESS INNINGS.
Sunday should be a nail biter.
the RS are 9-2 against the Orioles,by the way!
Please score Yankees,don’t quit.
“However, the Yankees certainly were not trying to win yesterday when they sat on their hands and failed to acquire a starter or reliever!”
Yeah that was something. I was surprised that Cashman didn’t even put out feelers. It’s one thing when you try but other teams ask for your best players. It’s another when you sit on your hands and do nothing about it.
Right?
good situational hitting by the yanks again
A rod would have scored there…why why why
tough luck for melky there
unbelivable…what can the yankees do to screw up this game
Bad break for Cabrera. Hit it on the money.
OMG not Posadas fault tho that was a blooper if I ever saw one
That’s what’s wrong with this team.
you have to get the runner in with bases loaded and no outs.
there are no excuses for that.
Posada again with his head not in the game! Bench him!
FAIL ! This team SUCKS ! They suck with runners on base. Well we know what will happen when the yanks face the red sox again.
deek
Another dumb play by Posada. Decoy? Are you serious? That was not even close to being caught.
Nice play by Quentin.
Well, at least we got one. I’m not watching, so I can’t see if that was bad baserunning or what by Georgie.
And now in the biggest spot of the game, Girardi still does not pinch hit for Ransom?
They do not want to win today, how else can you explain this?
They they pinch hit Ransom.
ransom will K again
Ransom strikes out.
what is going on???
nice bases loaded no outs. We are hitting .216 w/ RISP. Melky lines out, that is about right.
I get giving Tex a day off from 1B, but why not put Hinske or Swisher at 1B instead of Ransom? Does he have a purpose on this team?
He wont pinch hit for Ransom because he’s such a nice fellow
Even McCarver (a yankee hater if there was ever one) said Danks is getting charitable calls.
unreal
CODY RANSOM IS USELESS
“Well, at least we got one. I’m not watching, so I can’t see if that was bad baserunning or what by Georgie.”
It was bad baserunning. The play was right in front of him. How he didn’t know that Quentin wasn’t going to catch that ball is beyond me.
Why not pinch hit for Ransom… interesting
I knew it. DFA Ransom he is an idiot and sucks.
what a joke. bases loaded, no outs and just 1 run. This team seems to forget it’s in the middle of a pennant race.
Time to start my Saturday night…PEACE
Why was Ransom not pinch hit for?
This guy has no talent. Send him packing for godsakes. What is wrong with Girardi.
We sent Shelley down because of THIS clown?
Seriously, NO ONE IS GOING TO CLAIM HIM.
Nice one run, we are awesome with RISP.
We can’t complain. We’ve seen them score zero with the bases loaded. At least they got one this time.
well now I’m 2/2 on ransom strikeouts
this guy is a total piece of you know what
bad hitter
bad fielder
what exactly is he doing to stay on this team? laundry, baking cakes for Girardi? I don’t understand
I can see what point you’re trying to make, Jim. I just don’t agree with or maybe it that I’m not following your logic. Comparing being an athlete to an accountant is comparing apples to oranges, because the parameters for success are very different.
If Cody Ransom being a Yankee as a utility player is the sole reason this team fails to win a World Series this year, after their acquisitions this off season – then this team has bigger problems and quite frankly is in bigger trouble than just that.
How do you not pinch hit Ransom? It’s a big spot in the game and you let you 25th guy on the team hit. Stupid managing.
how much longer can they stand to have ransom around?
now why the hell do we still have him (Ransom) here?
once again great job by ransom…he is so important for this team….he and Veras must have pictures hidden away
“Why not pinch hit for Ransom… interesting”
Fair point. Big spot in the game
What a shock, the useless Cody Ransom strikes out, raising his LOB total to FIVE in this game.
Biggest spot in the game, and Girardi STILL refuses to pinch hit for Ransom. How is he not only on this roster, but starting games, and not only that, but he’s allowed to BAT with 2 guys on down 4 runs in the 6th inning of a game!
Ransom has stranded more runners on base in his at bats than the DEFICIT in this game. He’s just a fringe player? Well guess what, his at bats today have been in CRUCIAL SPOTS and you can’t let him hit!
Terrible, terrible, disgraceful inning there.
Bases loaded, no outs, and one run, with a guy getting forced out on what should have been a base hit and RANSOM allowed to hit?
No wonder the Yankees are losing games.
All of you Cody Ransom defenders out there just saw the exact reason who he isnt a baseball player but just a someone masquerading as a baseball player.
Got to love Ransom versatility. Why was Shelly Duncan sent down? I heard Girardi say Ransom has some pop in his bat. I heard Cashman say in spring training on wfan Ransom is better defensive third basemen than A-Rod. LOL I have yet to see either from Commander Cody.
Why the hell did Girardi not pinch hit for Ransom? I could understand if he was having a good day at the plate but Danks made him look downright SILLY all game.
Terrible, terrible managing there. A manager’s ONLY job is to put the team in the best position to win. That means Hinske should have started over Ransom, whether or not he would have got the job done.
That inning was so ridiculous… reminds me of the last game we played against the Angels
ransom at 192 for the year but nah your 25th player does not matter.
keep sending him out there it does not matter jsut like Tomko innings eater.
they need the best 25 not the best 23….
posada is a terrible baserunner, I do not have the game but assume he had no clue…
White Sox had bases loaded with 1 out and scored six runs. Yankees had bases loaded no outs and only scored one. Thats the difference in this game.
when is cashmen gonna release this bum ransom???
Ransom can not hit a curve ball. No pitcher in their right mind should ever throw him a fastball.
That inning falls on Posada and Girardi. Pathetic display. Posada should be on the bench next inning to teach him a lesson.
I’m still not sure why Ransom was in this game to begin with…
What is this man crush Girardi has on Ransom! Play Hinske, forget the right lefty matchup, Ransom couldn’t hit a ball off a tee
what the hell kind of team is this?
why is he still on this team?? Pena is a soooo much of a better utility man than him!
GI Joe…
You’re kidding right?
Damon, Matsui, Hinske on bench…
All with HR power.
Would have been nice to have Duncan.
6 lob from ransom??
A major league shortstop needs to make that play. Jeter needs to get his head in the game. Stop laughing and play ball.
I feel like I’m watching the bizarro world version of the Yankees. Who are these people?
It seems that this team is getting ready for another beating from the Red Sox again. Pathetic, they should all be ashamed, making a joke of the uniform and organization.
That does it. This game’s done if jeter’s given up on playing too.
girardi as all managers are just so stubborn.
wh ydid he not pinch hit for ransom there….
again the yanks treat there last few roster spots year in and year out like they do not matter, THEY MATTER MORONS.
Posada has got to be the worst baserunner in the majors right now. Sorry but that was pathetic…
Does Cody Ransom have a fan club?
Can somebody please tell me why cody ransom is still on the team?!?!?!?!
IF CODY RANSOM IS NOT DFA’D TOMORROW IM GONNA LOSE MY MIND!
Hairston can play third and 1st, and is way better than ransom… its really frustrating to watch him play and strike out in big situations…
GIRARDI…. HE’S BATTING .190!!
What a joke, letting a .200 bat that situation.
Fire Girardi
LOL @ CLUELESS JOE MAN WHEN IT RAINS IT POURS
When we got Hairston I thought it meant the end of Cody Ransom, so I was happy. Now Ransom’s getting even more playing time!
Yanks are in need of a day off–physically and mentally
NYY is awesome this year
(against terrible teams)
FACE PIES FOR EVERYONE, YAAAAAAAY
this is the angels series redo with Cc going tommorrow.
when the yanks look bad they look real bad, zero clutch hitting. they wear cement on there shoes……
For the love of god, please DFA Cody Ransom. He is absolutely useless.
As bad as Ransom’s at bat was though, Posada’s baserunning “gaffe,” if you even can be that nice about it, was what really set up the inning.
Posada sucked the life out of the rally on what should have been an easy base hit by not being aware of the situation, yet again, and not judging a ball RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM.
Posada doesn’t get thrown out, and all of a sudden you have another run at 3rd that can score without an out, and the TYING RUN is at the plate. Maybe in that case Girardi has the guts to actually pinch hit for Ransom, and everything else falls in to place right behind that.
Even if Ransom still hits, in a spot where you only need a fly ball to score the runner, maybe he gets the bat on the ball instead and gets the guy in. However, we will never know because of Posada’s DUMB baserunning mistake.
the Yankees deserve to lose the way we’re playing.
Posada getting out at 3rd?
More baserunning mistakes
Burnett pitching like crap outta nowhere
starting ransom at 1b, DH’ing tex, when matsui is hitting great…
Jeter fielding error? i mean c’mon
Just a TON of bad moves all together this WHOLE series
Trumpetman-
The ‘Roid sox are a disgrace to baseball. They haven’t won a world series since 1918.
If we lose this game, I think that Joe might want to have one of those team meetings to impress upon the guys that this type of play can cost them the season.
You can’t insult Ransom for being a fringe player. It’s not his fault he’s not a good baseball player. He tries really hard, and I’m sure he has a great passion for the game. He is what he is, and we shouldn’t get on him for being what he is.
We SHOULD, however, get on the people who allow him to remain on this roster. Further more, we should get on the people that START him, for no adequately explained reason.
And what is wrong with Posada? Is there something going on at home that we don’t know about? It’s gotta be something, because his head has not been in ANY of the last three games.
Jimmy J you are right the last series in tampa was a mirage. also the series against detroit did not count.
the ill informed drivel that comes from the under 14 crowd is head shaking…
I wondered that yesterday, Laura, after watching them in the field for the last two games.
More poor managing by Girardi. He’s been as bad as the team itself in this series.
You can not let Ransom hit in that spot. But of course he’ll explain away in the post game how Hinske is left handed and Ransom being right handed is better against Danks. smh
Funny, but that slider from Bruney was in the SAME SPOT as BOTH 3-2 pitches from Burnett to Nix, and he called it a strike?
How can anyone deny that Burnett was jobbed today?
That makes sense Angel.
But Cody Ransom is more than a utility player when he comes up in key spots time after time. He has screwed defensively I think every game he has played in. They may be an exaggeration, but I dont have the exact number.
You need a serviceable 25 man roster. Why do you think teams dont like to play with 24 or 23, they bring up a serviceable guy to take the roster spot. Cody Ransom is not only not the 25th player on our roster, it’s almost as if when he is in the game, we are playing with 8 fielders and 8 in the lineup. He’s so bad, its almost as if were playing with 7 in the lineup.
Did we decide why Damon had to have today off? He must be aching because it’s illogical to give Tex a half-day off when Damon’s sitting.
Today would’ve been a good day to get Jose’s glove in and let Posada DH. Considering that he just played last night.
Ransom has left 5 on base and struck out twice….wow what does it take to get rid of this guy….every game is the same with him….doesn’t say much for the yankee farm system.
It’s maddening how this team has a blind spot for guys with no talent like Ransom, Berroa, Tomko ECT. Who is making roster decisions here? Why such a lack of talent evaluation? It almost seems like they place little importance in their support players.
these are minor, but here we go:
Send down Ransom and bring up Ramiro Pena (pena is much younger, athletic, MUCH MUCH MUCH better defense and offense)
Play Hinske more!
Release Josa Molina and bring back up Cervelli!!!!!!
Jimmy J-
Shouldn’t you be “working out” with Dice-K ?
we need ramiro pena back now… especially with gardner on the DL.
He has speed and youth… get rid of ransom, he’s a 32 year old journeyman!
Ramiro Pena needs to be here for the boston series, especially when varitek is catching. He can come in to pinch run for posada/matsui and really help us win. Not to mention he can actually HIT! I’m sorry, but Ransom is batting .190 and its MIND BOGGLING TO ME that he’s still on this team!!!
He must have some some sort of blackmail on girardi/cashman because its pretty obvious to all of us that he does not belong.
What does Girardi see in Ransom?? He is hitting .192! I am convinced the two of them are in a lavish love relationship together.
“If we lose this game, I think that Joe might want to have one of those team meetings to impress upon the guys that this type of play can cost them the season.”
I said the same thing last night, Laura. It’s coming. They aren’t losing games because the other team is playing better. They’re losing games because the other team is playing better BY DEFAULT. There isn’t a team in the majors we could beat with the level of play we’ve displayed the last three days. Nationals, Padres, Orioles…They’d all beat us the way we’re playing right now. Joe isn’t going to allow it.
What a bunch of babies.
Bash the umpires. They are in cahoots with the Red Sox. They always make bad calls against the Yankees never the other team.
It is Posada’s fault. Bash him too.
Do you expect AJ to do well every game? Not gonna happen.
Matt will take over when Girardi is fired and all will be well. Yankees will play perfect baseball.
again they have options for Ransom jsut like they did for Tomko but it usually takes the yanks at least a month longer then it should to get rid of guys…
that is unexcusable….
Monday is a day off, why Girardi feels the need to rest Tex today & take up the DH spot that could be better served with Damon or Matsui is beyond me. Who cares if they are lefties, you want your best players up there.
Joe Girardi’s bench today:
Eric Hinske
Johnny Damon
Hideki Matsui
Jose Molina
Hitter that bats with 2 runners on in the 6th inning:
Cody Ransom
You can’t make this stuff up.
“joe, why did you not pinch hit for Cody Ransom in the 6th?”
“I believed in him in that spot, things just didn’t work out”
“really, you believed in a .190 hitter?”
Jim,
I agree with you. Cody Ransom is a sham of a player. I am sure he is trying his hardest to be a good player, he just doesn’t have the stuff.
But, like anyone, he isn’t about to quit his job to help his employer. To you, Baseball is a sport and the Yankees are a team you root for. To Ransom, Baseball is a job, and the Yankees are his employer.
For all we know Ransom’s favorite team is the Red Sox. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t try his hardest to win for the Yankees, but it does mean he isn’t about to quit his job to help the organization. If he gets traded to Royals, is he supposed to quit there too?
He doesn’t have the ties to the Yankees like you and I do. He gets paid whether they win or lose (he would rather win, but unlike you and I, he plays to get paid…we watch to see them win).
Once he is no longer a New York Yankee, he really has no ties to the organization. They are merely an employer in his eyes, much like your accounting firm (or the equivalent) is your employer.
I am sure you try your hardest at your job, and I am sure you like it where you work. But like I said earlier, if you sucked at your job but your employer was fine with your performance, you’d be nuts to quit your job because it’s the honorable thing to do.
He’s trying to earn a living. He’s not about to throw everything he has away because some fans thinks he sucks. I don’t want him on the team any more than you do, but I’m not about to suggest he quits. It is Girardi’s job to get rid of him, Ransom is only doing what’s best for himself and his family.
If you’ve been following Girardi during his tenure as manager, it’s quite clear why he’s playing Ransom. Girardi truly believes that Ransom is capable of something that we haven’t seen from him recently. Ransom can hit it out every once in a while. In Joe’s mind, that’s reason enough to put him in the lineup because maybe, he’ll hit one out. That’s a pretty big maybe considering how little playing time Cody has had.
This might be the worst series of Posada’s career. Just terrible. He’s playing at AA level. For some reason it looks like he has hit a wall. Physical mistakes, mental mistakes, and he’s being stubborn with the pitch calling. He needs a few days off. He’s not helping this team at all.
Angel -
This team does have significantly more problems. I knwo this is a try to win every year ballclub. But the Team acts like it is content with mediocrity. Accountability must be there with laziness, poor decisions, mental mistakes. I dont believe they are, but then again, Im not in the Yankees clubhouse to know. But the repeated mistakes, etc. signal that accountability is not there.
It’s all a philosophy
Donnie
Matt tries hard on the blog to give insight about the shortcomings of our team. He gets insulted to the fullest and everybody wants him off the blog
Cody tries hard, and a lot of fans want him off the team.
Matt provides more on this blog than Cody ever will on a baseball field.
Cashman needs to take Ransom away from Girardi like he used to have to take players away from Torre when he got stubborn like this.
His blind, and it’s really blind, faith in this guy is costing this team every single game he plays.
Tunnel Man
Yeah the Red Sox do suck and they are cheaters. But the yankees can beat them, and they can’t beat good teams. So what does that say about the yankees?
Why don’t the Yankees have a bench of Hinske, Hairston, Molina, and Pena?
It’s not that difficult. Pena plays SS, 3B, and 2B. Hinske plays corner OF, and Hairston plays anywhere.
WHY do we need Ransom on the roster. There’s really no logical explanation. Replace him with Pena and we have better defense and speed, which the team is sorely lacking right now.
Finally got that bum AJ Pierzinski out. I hate that guy with a passion. The only player I hate more is Manny.
should be a 2 run game but bad baserunning and other decisions
If Molina was catching and had gone 1 for 3, Girardi always would have pinch hit for him. Why Ransom stays in with his performance when there are so many other options defies logic, gravity, the laws of physics, etc. etc.
IF George Steinbrenner was still alive, he would Fire Girardi and hire Bob Brenly.
Good job by Bruney he is struggling and had to get 4 outs that inning. His command looked a lot better than it was against tampa.
Release Molina? That’s stupid. He has played fine for the Yankees this season. However, Pena should be the backup instead of Ransom. I think that is painfully obvious by now. Considering A-Rod needs rest some times and Matsui does also, and the fact that Swisher and Hinske are not truly everyday players… The Yankees need to have solid backups. They have to realize this, Ransom needs to go, tie up these loose ends. This sloppy play will knock them right out of first and worse, this is a tough decision. Yanks need to bounce back soon and start playing better.
“the last series in tampa was a mirage. also the series against detroit did not count”
NYY can beat the 5th and 6th best teams in the AL, YAAAAY! MORE FACE PIES!
tough division*
Oops. It’s illogical to give Damon the day off and give Tex a half-day.
Erica, I know it’s a little late, but here’s my lineup submission:
Jeter-SS
Damon-LF
Tex-1B
Rodriguez-3B
Posada-DH
Cano-2B
Cabrera-CF
Swisher,-RF
Molina-C
Of course, true second guessing would have Hairston replacing Swisher.
The level of baseball knowledge demonstrated on this blog when the Yankees are losing a game is about equal to that of George W Bush trying to explain how to fix the economy. I guess no team has ever won a World Series if they have a losing streak on the road.
These same White Sox just lost 6 out of 7 on the road to the Twins and Tigers, I seem to remember the Yankees doing pretty well on the road against those teams this year.
I have a suggestion for all of you who complain about everything about the Yankees-GO FIND ANOTHER TEAM TO FOLLOW. Because, when they win, you have no right to enjoy it for even 1 second.
I agree with RS. again it usually takes the yanks at least a month to get rid of scrub vets. I think they need everyone in top management to sign a form and do some other crap..
Ransom put in Waivers he will not get picked up and then he can go to SWB and then Sept 1 he can come up and be Girardi’s buddy.
the stubborness is what gets me on getting rid of Tomko when you have younger better options and the same for Ransom..Again if he did any 1 skill real well that is another story. Pena can field better and is faster….
“Ransom can hit it out every once in a while. In Joe’s mind, that’s reason enough to put him in the lineup because maybe, he’ll hit one out.”
Seriously? I think Eric Hinske has hit more balls out in his past 10 games then Ransom has the last 2 years.
“Did we decide why Damon had to have today off? He must be aching because it’s illogical to give Tex a half-day off when Damon’s sitting.”
Damon hit the wall pretty hard last night. I don’t have a problem giving him the day off. Tex at DH is another story.
I don’t think its fair to say that they’re content with mediocrity. This team has never been content with mediocrity. How much did they spend in the offseason to get the BEST free agents out there? LOTS.
Laura – I loathe him too. I loathed him since he was a Twin.
Bruney did a good job go to melancon or robertson or coke next..
bruney moves up a teeny bit in the pecking order, good outing…
Ransom for Ramiro Pena!!!! Come on!!!! We need Pena back up here, he’s a masterful fielder and a decent hitter with speed!
And Cervelli needs to be up here too!
The Yankees could have very easily played Hinske in right and Swisher at first, or even the reverse case since Swisher has a bit more range in RF. Yet, despite having capable guys who can not only play the position but hit, he started Cody Ransom, who can do neither.
Ransom has left 5 on base today. Putting automatic outs in the lineup, even batting 9th, will hurt you.
“Seriously? I think Eric Hinske has hit more balls out in his past 10 games then Ransom has the last 2 years.”
I’m not saying that Girardi is right. I’m just saying that he thinks that Ransom is better than he actually is.
Maybe Girardi should be fired. He has faith in the wrong players like Ransom who are nothing but losers. Girardi is a fool and if the yankees fail to make the playoffs I will be happy to see him get fired.
my guess coke then melancon
I love pitching changes for switch hitters. I know it’s because Danks is done, but still it’s pretty fun.
“Laura – I loathe him too. I loathed him since he was a Twin.”
He is one of those guys that even the players don’t like. Remember last year when they needed a catcher for the All Star game and they picked Varitek over AJP even though AJ’s numbers were huge compared to Varitek? The players don’t like him…at all!!!
Girardi Boys:
Jose Vares
Edwar Ramirez
Johnathan Albaladejo
Cody Ransom
Angel Berroa
And to a certain extent Nick Swisher
If i see Ransom come up to bat again in this game im going to lose my mind…
Eights
I understand everything you are saying but I have a different philosophy than you. If I was trying really hard at my job as an accountant and I cost my clients millions of dollars because as hard as I try I am the worst accountant in the country and my firm, which are like family to me, refused to fire me out of blind loyalty or whatever the reason, I would quit. The reason is that if I was so terrible at my job that despite all of my effort I was still so horrible that some kid straight out of high school could replace me, what kind of enjoyment could I get out of life sponging off my employer while showing no improvement. I would want to move on and try to find something I was actually good at.
Cody is just fooling himself, continuing to try to be a baseball player. It just isnt in the cards for him and for him to continue to steal money from the organization is the wrong thing to do. The only reason I wouldnt care if he did this to other teams is because him being on another team would give the Yankees a better chance to win against that team. I would also hope that he chose to bench himself against our rivals like the Rays and Red Sox.
Has girardi proven that he’s clearly not the type of a manager that’ll get us through the playoffs?
Podsednik irritates me. All the way back when he beat out Jeter for the fan vote.
ok 2 on, nobody out…Tex & A-Rod up, let’s get something done. They can still win this.
Actually I meant to say that the yankees can’t beat the teams that they have to beat to get to the world series. The Roid Sox and Angels.
“Cody is just fooling himself, continuing to try to be a baseball player. ”
He’s a baseball player….in the minor leagues.
swisher is not one of the boys…the yanks just don’t have other decent warm body
a three run shot by TEx would be great here.
angel berroa was never a girardi guy the guy got into about 5 games…the yanks do not trust anyone unless the yare at least 28 years old.
and they take to long to make personal moves obviously it is cashmans fault also.
I am not trying to be mean to Ransom but he does not deserve to be on the roster..
At least Tex moved the runners over.
“Matt provides more on this blog than Cody ever will on a baseball field.”
Jim – I’m just not a cheerleader and know something about baseball. The others should ask themselves – Would they rather have honest baseball insight or pom-pom waving?
Everyone’s up there trying to do so much. We just need a few base hits to get back in the game, don’t need home runs necessarily.
I’ll take that.
MG
Amen
Sort of a swinging bunt but I’ll take it lol
Nice hustle, Alex.
Let’s go Posada. Show us your awesomeness.
A chance for Posada to redeem himself, if only he can lay off the slider in the dirt.
now how do all the dumb plays and decisons look..
play every game all 27 outs…
Matt
“Matt provides more on this blog than Cody ever will on a baseball field.”
Jim – I’m just not a cheerleader and know something about baseball. The others should ask themselves – Would they rather have honest baseball insight or pom-pom waving?
——————————————
All you provide is condescending crap that claims to be insight. You can summarize everything you want to say in 3 words-I hate Posada.
Like I said, he chased a pitch and almost hit into ANOTHER double play.
Terrible job by Posada there. Just terrible.
oh man jorge is so slow…
Need a big hit from Cano here.
And that should have ended the inning. Swear to God, this has been the worst series of Posada’s career. Something is up with him, because this is not Jorge Posada.
need a hit here cano… come on!!!!!… lets make it 7-6
“Jim – I’m just not a cheerleader and know something about baseball. The others should ask themselves – Would they rather have honest baseball insight or pom-pom waving?”
Matt, that’s bull and you know it. You keep trying to accuse me of only pom-pom waving when the truth is that I’m hard on the team when they deserve it. And I’ve got the posts to prove it. You are 100% negative all of the time and the posts are on here to prove that as well.
Hasn’t Cano killed lefties this season?
We really need Beckett to fail today.
Nope. Girardi has proven that he is nothing more than a fool.
this guy has pitched 1 inning….
cano use your brain take a pitch.
jorge has had a very bad series, it happens but he has always been a bad bad baserunner
Pena was throwing absolute meat and they got one run off him before he was taken out… terrible
Robbie is probably pressing so I’m not expecting much.
The difference in these kinds of games is almost ALWAYS those plays you botch early in the game. Well guess what?
Posada’s dumb baserunning play could have cost them dearly today, especially considering another run was in position to score on an out as well.
Another situation where they only need a base hit to get right back in this game, but you know the Yankees hitters will go up there trying to hit the 3-run HR instead!
wow, we’ve gotten no breaks this series whatsoever. tough break cano
Poor Robbie.
Pathetic
Cano once again fails with runners on. LOL Unbelievable !
Cano might be the most frustrating player in the lineup
Ha! Posada getting thrown out at 3rd…EPIC FAIL
he looked like Pete Abe trying to run the bases!!
They’re just not having big innings. One run at a time.
Wow, a 2 run single that the pitcher knocked down with his bare hand. Every break seems to go against this team lately.
But despite the “bad luck,” they have put themselves in this position by playing sloppy baseball. If they score more than 1 run with the bases loaded, no outs in the inning before, they are right there still.
2 more innings – gotta keep them off the board tho…
I’m starting to think this Yankee team prefers being the chaser than being chased.
That’s a problem.
You get 3.5 up on your opponent and turn in 3 games like this so far…I wonder if the team was waiting for Cashman to bring in the cavalry yesterday.
you look the other way at Posada’s defensive deficiencies because of his bat, but not only is his bat terrible this weekend so is his mental outlook. He’s playing like a rookie.
Ransom is a terrible player, but Posada isn’t. This weekend his play has sunk to a Ransom low.
don’t have the game but I assume did a Cano….
classic he is a mental midgets.. 320+ no one on base low 200 men on base, but there is no problem. It is jsut a anamoly in BABIP or some other statistical BS.
Bottom line like in most yankee losses comes down to there BA with RISP, since they have more chances then any other team, but are 15 with RISP…
head shaking…….
no breaks at all
August 1st, 2009 at 6:44 pm
wow, we’ve gotten no breaks this series whatsoever. tough break cano
——————————————-
Yeah Coke just missed knocking down the game winning hit on thursday night. This series reminds me of the angels series. Just every little thing not going the yankees way.
LEave it to Cano to come threw with the BIG clutch hit.
The one good thing is Bruney. He’s pitching much better lately. We are going to need him down the stretch.
“All you provide is condescending crap that claims to be insight. You can summarize everything you want to say in 3 words-I hate Posada.”
To be perfectly honest, baseball, and sports in general, are a lot easier to talk about when the team is doing something wrong. If they’re doing something wrong, everyone can provide a point/counterpoint to what they’re doing wrong, and how they can fix it. It sparks conversation.
When a team is winning, then what? “Man, did you see that shot A-Rod hit?” “Yep. Sure did. And wasn’t CC great?” “He sure was!” “Um…so…Did you happen to catch that rerun of LOST on SyFy the other night?”
So I have no problem with Matt showing up when the team is losing, because there generally IS more to talk about.
And clearly, he DOESN’T hate Posada. He is simply pointing out that the last two games have been nothing short of the worst baseball he’s played in his career. If he wasn’t capable of better, it wouldn’t be so frustrating.
And honestly, most of the time, he DOES provide insight. I don’t consider if condescending, but hey, your mileage may vary. The guy talks baseball, which is the point of this blog. If you don’t enjoy his presentation, skip his posts. It’s not hard.
Honestly, guys, I’m getting REALLY sick of people attacking each other around here. The team is playing arguably the worst stretch of baseball that they’ve played all season. If you want to be angry at something, great, go punch a wall. We all want the Yankees to win here. How about we try and be civil for once when the team is outright sucking?
Girardi= Graddy Little
But worse. At least Graddy has taken a team to the playoffs.
go to the pen now 25 pitches, cookie down the middle, enough
Good thing the R*d S*x are such a bad team this year. I very doubt that they could take advantage of this Yankee loss.
This Yankee team is a classic bully…they beat up on the weak and struggle against good teams b/c they are unathletic, poor defenders at most positions and the pitching struggles against good lineups. This staff is not good enough to win the WS.
The best thing that will come out of this season will be if Hal wakes up realizes that CASHman only does one thing well and that is spend $$.
Fire CASHman
Who’s Graddy? How did you ever make it “threw” the tunnel?
The one time Bruney throws a first pitch strike, he allows a stolen base.
Get Bruney out. Third inning of work.
“And honestly, most of the time, he DOES provide insight.”
Donnie, there is such a thing as too much insight. After awhile, you lose interest in what Matt is saying because it’s such a nonstop barrage of negativity that you just want no part of it.
bruney asleep at the wheel and can’t throw a strike… lovely…
Posada needs to take charge there. Bruney didn’t pay any attention to the runner on 1st. It can’t happen again! Pathetic. The first SB is on Bruney. The second SB is all Posada. He needs to make sure Bruney checks him back.
Another day and another short reliever throwing upwards of 30 pitches.
How long are these guys going to be able to take this abuse? CALL UP A LONG RELIEVER ALREADY.
Girardi over extending Bruney he is close to 40 pitches
they just are doing nothing right at all…
that is the bottom line..
really 34 pitches take the guy out>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Epic fail by Bruney and Posada. Posada can’t stop the runnings game. You have people stealing hrid and home, it’s like a track team out there. Pathetic.
And as soon as I say that Bruney is doing better, he gives up a run. I should have kept my mouth shut.
nice job Girardi didn’t know Bruney was the long man today
2 batters to late you jack off
can you take him out now??????
I saw this coming and I do not even have a TV 10 pitches ago……
really JOE get it together
wow bruney stinks.
Scouting report on Nix: Throw a strike…he’s not going to swing the bat
sorry I meant third.
I wonder if anyone of the Yankees pitchers feels like challenging the White Sox’s 9 hitter today. 3 BB’s today for Nix.
ugh…brian brutal strikes again
How many hits have we given up in the last two games? 30? The pitching has really taken a nose dive in this series.
Matt -
Im aware you have knowledge of the game. BUt, maybe you could analyze the tings the team does well as well as poorly.
THe main problem with this team is it appears that there is no accountability. To some extent, you see jeets laughing after making a bad play or down several runs. Where is the leadership of talking to Posada after he clowns around yesterday and apparently today. ( I cant watch the game, so I am updating it).
did jorge have a bad baserunning play in that inning? to go along with the numerous mistakes he made yesterday.
Jesus!!
Can these dudes get any luckier with these bloop hits!!
RISP:
White Sox- 6 for 13
Yankees- 2 for 13
Wonder which team is winning?
The pitching wasn’t great today, but come on. How can anyone think the pitching is the reason we are in line to lose this game? Burnett threw up zeroes every inning except the 2nd, and the Yankees offense went down quietly almost every time.
He had one bad inning, most pitchers do. He kept them within reach of this game, and the offense has sputtered.
Girardi is stretching out Bruney to replace Mitre’s next start.
what the heck happened to AJ? What was up with that horrible inning?
“Donnie, there is such a thing as too much insight. After awhile, you lose interest in what Matt is saying because it’s such a nonstop barrage of negativity that you just want no part of it.”
And I understand that side of the coin as well. You have every right not to want to read negativity.
Scroll past it. Seriously. It’s just as negative to outright attack a guy for posting his opinion.
His posts are generally well written, and thought out. He’s not coming on and saying, “SCREW POSADA! HE’S WASHED UP! HE NEEDS TO RETIRE! WE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN VICTOR MARTINEZ!”
I completely understand not wanting to deal with negativity. There are some people who always try to look on the positive side of things, and that is their God given right to do so.
But bashing the dude for talking baseball (even if you don’t like his way of doing it) is just as negative. If the negativity TRULY bothers you, skip past his post, and move on to the next one. It’s just not fair to lambaste the guy for trying to talk baseball.
Bruney is a short reliever. One again Girardi got greedy and over extended a reliever. Why is Girardi so scared to use Melancon. He only threw like 18 pitches last night.
There seems to be a sort of pattern in these games. First game, Hughes was left in a little too long, second was Aceves, and now Bruney.
Girardi left Bruney in too long. He should have pulled him after the Getz hit. Again, he fails to manage the bullpen well. Pathetic display today. Inept managing at it’s best.
at 25 pitches above I said take him out really is that hard to figure. the extra 2/3 of an inning going to kill Robertson????
Head shaking series from the players and some bad decisions by Girardi when he handles the pen well.
Now Bruney whom would have had a positive result leaves with another failure….What did this accomplish…..
To clarify, even when we are winning, stupid plays are made that I get angry at. Whether we are winning or losing, I feel the same way about mental mistakes or sheer laziness
Gardner gets to the ball that fell in front of Melky. There’s something to be said for great speed in the outfield.
Ajax would have even gotten to that ball.
Let me apologize for the success of Podsednick. That’s the only thing I can take “credit” for. I had him on my fantasy team. As soon as I pick up a player, the player falls apart. As soon as I drop him, he turns into the league’s MVP.
By the way, Girardi also needs to be questioned about why Posada caught a day game after a night game. I thought the rule of thumb was that he didn’t catch day after night. He has been so atrocious behind the plate as well as at bat that you think Girardi would have taken the opportunity to give him a rest. Though maybe it’s a CC-Molina tandem? I have no idea but good Lord, there is no question that Posada has been horrid lately. If he needs a rest, rest him dammit. Or let him DH. If he can catch two days in a row, so can Molina!
“UPDATE, 6:51 p.m.: Make that 2 for 13 with RISP today. 12 of 60 on the trip.”
This is part of the problem. The pitching, defense and brain dead base running haven’t helped either.
I wouldn’t call it insight, Donnie so much as stating the bloody obvious – anyone can do that. I guess my mileage does vary, lol.
But you’re right, if you don’t like it ignore him. He’s not going to change his posting style.
and we go 0-3 against the ChiSox, are 0-8 against BOS and 2-4 against LAA….that is a SUPER STRONG 2-15 against the likely winners of all the divisions. NICE !
Anyone else think CC should pinch hit the next RISP situation to light a fire under some of these unclutch idiots asses?!
you hit 200 with RISP on the road you are not winning unless you pitch really really good…
CC can’t be any worse a hitter than Cody Ransom.
Gotta disagree with you Matt-
He could have limited the damage to 4 runs, 5 runs.
6 runs is not keeping us within reach, even if we have the best offense in baseball.
It’s not easy to score runs, especially when you are staring at a 6 run deficit.
But, I dont blame AJ, this was the umpire’s fault. He got in Aj’s head, bottom line.
“Scroll past it. Seriously. It’s just as negative to outright attack a guy for posting his opinion.”
You are right, Donnie. In fact, I usually tell this to people who complain about others. I should take my own advice.
Donnie, Opinions are generally well thought out, this is not the case for Matt…..He needs to be recalled, he’s defective and he’s harmful to Yankee fans…..He knows sqwat
robertson has a 3.80 ERA but guys are only hitting 206 against him. if he can do better with inherited runners he may turn into something someday…
lol, trisha. That’s because Girardi fell for AJ’s “me and Georgy are BFFs”
Just kidding, guys!
Seriously, I said earlier, Jorge’s being rode like a rented mule. And Molina’s great behind the plate. Let Jorge take a break today.
“This is part of the problem. The pitching, defense and brain dead base running haven’t help either”
It’s like they’re playing the Red Sox.
Trisha,
My guess would be that, with DHing Tex, Joe made the decision to field Ransom at first. Given that, he chose to leave Ransom as the only “weak link” in the lineup, rather than play both him AND Molina.
Of course, it hasn’t made a lick of difference, but I’d venture to say his reasoning was something like that.
The White Sox, a home run or nothing team, have hit just ONE home run in this entire series.
So why are we giving up so many runs to this lineup?
“Fire Bud Selig August 1st, 2009 at 6:57 pm
Anyone else think CC should pinch hit the next RISP situation to light a fire under some of these unclutch idiots asses?!”
No…we need Mo.
He’s got more RBI’s this year than he has in the rest of his career combined. He’s money this year.
I was a supporter of Girardi but him moves are really stupid. He lacks basic knowledge. Leaving middle relievers in too long, and having hope in losers like Cody Ransom.
The Yankees are classic bullies beat up the weak and struggle against the good teams.
The best thing to come out of this season will be if Hal wakes up and fires CASHman. All he can do well is spend $$. No creativity with the 25 man roster and not enough pitching depth.
AJ said Halladay taught him alot. Halladay never let’s crappy umpiring get in his head.
it is a given umpires stink but SO WHAT…
AJ did not do his job today, not the end of the world but true…..
the other 2 gift runs kill. they would be down by 2 not 4…this is anaheim redux, big time……but girardi and cashman are not helping the situation with ransom and joe over doing bruney who of all the pitchers is a low innings guy..Melancon, hughes, and aceves can go mulitple innings but Bruney less…
Dang I need to stop typing fas tI mean his moves. Sorry LOL !
“Pat M….
If you don’t like my opinions pom-pom waver, scroll on by.
You must be related to Posada or Ransom.
The truth isn’t always pretty. Watch the game once in awhile.
Melky looked like he had absolutely no intention of swinging the bat. He was up there praying for a walk.
pena>ransom
de caster>ransom
the 1-1 pitch that the ump called a strike to make it 1-2 was the difference for me.
Donnie – good points that make sense.
Yanks continue to fight back. The good news is it’s the 6th. I was on the phone talking to one of my credit card companies and seriously thought we were in about the 8th inning. Has this game dragged?
And there is a commercial with the biggest cheater of em all.
Tedy Bruschi, he obviously did drugs to earn his stroke. And he’s a hero.
I guess it’s no different than Papi being given time and space to sort out his excuse.
Wow, if only ballplayers were as perfect as the people on this blog. We’d be undefeated. Imagine that.
Molina will catch tomorrow.
good news Ransom is up..
yeah
Cody Ransom still in the game.
Unbelievable.
Ransom is still in there. LOL Girardi never changes his mind LOL
Did Ranson strike out all of his at bats?
With lefty Mark Beuhrle going tomorrow for the White Sox, Girardi will want more RH hitters in the lineup.
This means the power bat of one Cody Ransom to the rescue.
Looks like Ransom will be dfa’d after today’s game.
Ransom: 0-4, 3 K, 5 LOB
He’s clearly too valuable to risk losing on waivers.
having him bat there is a firable offense
he went down on 3… his obp is 250..
he must go before tommorrows game, he is angel berroa like………………..
I don’t care if Matt Thornton’s a lefty, the bench won’t mean anything with the lineup turning over.
Three pitch strike out.
THREE. PITCH. STRIKE OUT.
They have to show him the door. They just have to.
“I guess it’s no different than Papi being given time and space to sort out his excuse.”
You similarly bothered when Arod was given time to create his story?
Laura,
Nope! Only 3/4 of them!
Yeah M is right. The best thing to happen at the end of the season would be Cashman finally getting fired along with Girardi.
Lmao. It’s amazing that the New York Yankees employ such a horrible hitter. He barely even fouled the ball off today. Send him packing please. Girardi must have been tipsy this afternoon when he wrote the line-up and Ransom in it.
maybe ransom is related to girardi somehow thats why he stays
What a disappointing series. I had such high hopes for this series. Oh, well. We’ll get ‘em when they come to the stadium.
A rusty Jenks? All hope is not lost, folks!
Wow, if only ballplayers were as perfect as the people on this blog. We’d be undefeated. Imagine that.
—————
another stupid comment!!!
But, if we speak of a sport in which perfection is certainly possible, in football, did you see the Pats limit the mental mistakes to go 18-0
only reason why they lsot was because the giants played smash mouth knock em down drag em out football and punched Brady in the mouth.
“Yeah M is right. The best thing to happen at the end of the season would be Cashman finally getting fired along with Girardi”
So the best thing that could happen is the Yankees missing the playoffs? That’s what’s going to have to happen for either guy to be dismissed. I’m hoping both are in their positions come 4/2010.
“Molina will catch tomorrow.”
Thank you God in heaven (counting my blessings…)
“Nope! Only 3/4 of them!”
Oh, okay. I guess his strikeouts were just more memorable that I forgot what else he did. LOL!
Yankees have nobody to blame but themselves.
Every single game in this series is one that a team that does not make MENTAL mistakes wins nearly every time.
There’s a difference between being flat out beaten, and beating yourself out there. You can take a game they lose 5 to 1, but a game they lose on a bunch of dumb baserunning plays, steals of home, etc are ones that you cannot be alright with.
Girardi needs to do something, because sitting there on the dugout bench is not helping whatsoever. The umpire is a joke? How about you go out there and scream and yell a bit and get ejected, show your guys you care a bit? Your players are lazy and making mental mistakes? Yank them from the game, show your players you care a bit.
Why would Girardi bring in Coke. They are losing by 4 runs. Why is Girardi so scared to use Melancon.
SERIOUSLY DOES JOE HAVE MONEY ON THE WHITESOX??
WHAT COULD POSSIBLY BE GOING ON IN GIRARDI’S GIANT IVY LEAGUE BRAIN? THAT COULD SOMEHOW OVER-RIDE HIS EYEBALLS?
Robertson only threw 6 pitches. Why waste Coke today? Pathetic. If this game is still in reach, why not PH for Ransom?
How is it possible that we are in the month of August and have not yet beaten any colored Sox? 0-11 and counting…
Trumpetman
Yeah M is right. The best thing to happen at the end of the season would be Cashman finally getting fired along with Girardi.
Even after they win the World Series?
The other thing that is frustrating is that some of these hits by the White Sox are cheapies.
RANSOM AGAINST THORNTON?
Yeah that’s a fabulous idea!!
Matt, grow up…yelling like an immature kid when your team is not executing does not good.
Yeah we need Ransom in the lineup Sunday. Ransom is a scary hitter. Did you see how Thorton was afraid to pitch to him. LOL
They’ve stunk the whole series. Not 1 game have they’ve played well.
So I honestly don’t expect much from them tomorrow. Looking at a 4 game sweep possibly.
Coke missing his spots, Bruney missing his spots, Aceves missing his spots, Hughes missing his spots…
I wonder if guys are getting fatigued? Guess that means the logical thing to do is leave them in there to throw 40 more pitches!
They NEED to call up a long relief pitcher when the starters aren’t going deep into games in a stretch. You can’t “piece it together” and BURN OUT the entire bullpen.
While of course we never pay attention to what the Sux do, I would invite you all to join with me in sending your most negative vibrations toward them. If you take me up on this invitation, please make it clear to “the forces” that you mean for them to go to the Sux and not the Orioles. You know how those things can happen.
GO ORIOLES!!!!!
Robertson threw about 35 pitches last night, which may be part of the reason why he was not allowed to go long this evening.
UPDATE, 6:13 p.m.: How is Girardi letting Cody Ransom hit here?
UPDATE, 7:11 p.m.: What is the point of wasting Phil Coke here?
Great questions. Girardi does know the Yanks are in a pennant race, yes?
Anti-Matt,
Another person who would rather make excuses and launch personal attacks than contribute something to the blog. Where is there screaming and yelling?
Just because you have no point, doesn’t mean you have to lie.
igotid88
Yep even if the yanks win I would still want to see Cashman fired because he has not done much for this organization. Watson and Gene Michael set things up for him. And Girardi is an idiot.
Damn. The Yankees are really bending over for the White Sox this weekend. It’s been a long time, since they’ve looked this bad.
Matt -
I agree. Another problem is, I know that they team cares…
But the NYY dont do anything about getting cheated. We act classy.
The Red Sox argue every gosh darn call against them or fair call that they disagree with. They throw over people’s heads. They hit people. They throw down 70 year old men. They simply dont care that they act like scumbags.
1-0 RS
pathetic display of baseball. How many times have they missed the cut off man. They look like a little league team out there. Girardi needs to do something. It’s an embarrassment.
again nothing can go worse then it is .
now a intl walk.
coke gave up 3 hits to 3 lefties..
goe help us……..
Will Girardi start managing anytime this year?
Jim,
I was going to hold my tongue, but that last comment to me has finally done it. Pete has asked us not to call each other idiots or stupid, is that too much to ask?
You really need to go and find a nice Red Sox blog. You are obsessed with red. OBSESSED! You can’t write a single, solitary thought without bringing up the Red Sox, Boston, or the Patriots.
Just so you can hate me some more, the Patriots are my football team. I love them. Absolutely love them!
Ped. homerun in the 1st.
Wow….The entire damn team stinks right now. From the manager down to the last guy in the pen. Were they thinking too highly of themselves?
“What is the point of wasting Phil Coke here?”
1) Three lefties were coming to bat
2) Coke ain’t Sparky Lyle. Why shouldn’t he pitch in this spot.
Posada–what a f**kin dope. Not only does he hit more inning DPs and ground outs but now this….
Posada again does not have his head in the game. This is the worst I have ever seen him play. He needs to sit. Does he have a concussion?
Hmm.. I really don’t think you want to be talking to m like that. Just saying.
Ransom makes what should have been an incredible play, and then Posada with another TERRIBLE play. If you watch the replay, you can even see he was going to tag the guy with the ball, and pulled it back with the glove thinking he could actually fool the umpire.
You HAVE to yank him from this game right now and set an example. The game is already over, so what is the harm in doing so?
Where is the Girardi we thought we were getting, the one who makes his team accountable and won’t put up with BS?
Wow Posada
Posada is an idiot ! These guys are a joke on the field.
what the hell is wrong with posada?? complete disaster…yanks now 0 and 11 against any team with a sox in its name
So, anyone else thrilled that we might be out of first by tomorrow afternoon?
They keep playing this brand of garbage and we’ll be a few games back of Boston before they get to NY next weekend.
This team doesn’t get beat. It plays like garbage and beats itself.
“There’s a difference between being flat out beaten, and beating yourself out there. You can take a game they lose 5 to 1, but a game they lose on a bunch of dumb baserunning plays, steals of home, etc are ones that you cannot be alright with.”
Story of this series. They are beating themselves, period. There is absolutely no way this team should have put up two consecutive 10-spots on us. None.
And ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME!?!?!? An intentional walk. To Jayson Nix. Who’s batting .231. TO LOAD THE BASES!?!?
Whatever. CC better be damn near perfect tomorrow. There is no alternative.
ok, let the upcoming Boston series speak itself loudly.
They are 0-8 so far, if they continue to lose series vs. RedSox, basically they are not deserved to win Al East.
this might be the worst series of posada’s career…its like hes the fat kid you put in right field in little league and you pray the ball doesnt go near him but you knw it will find him…posada just keeps getting in these big situations and failing…kinda feel bad for the guy…but then i look at the score..
m -
I didnt call you stupid. I enjoy reading your posts. I cannot stand the 162-0 comments or the ones about bloggers managing the team. They are ridiculous.
I dont have a problem with you being a Pats fan. There are plenty of New Yorkers who think that NY is in the New England area and are both Yankees and Pats fans.
As long as you’re not RS and Pats fan, because then you’re a Bostonian and therefore act like a scumbag.
ummmm. i really hope Cashman is on the phone right now trying to find some help (not named Arroyo or Harang). it would be nice if marte could actually get some people out in AAA so that he can earn his money. Right about now Ross Ohlendorf would be great. Nice to see we are wasting Coke for the tomorrow when we are down 9-5 – should have left robertson in.
I think it’s safe to say that the Yankees know that Pena is going to be a utility player. Why are they so big on getting him ABs in Scranton then?
And by making the team out of ST they had to know he wasn’t going to play much up here but they still had him on the bench anyway. They weren’t that worried about him getting playing time.
Pena should be up and Ransom who lost his job to Pena, just should not be on this roster.
maybe its time for one of those cashmen clubhouse visits and then girardi to be ejected..that’ll spark the team
Ransom should be released and Cervelli recalled.
This team played with passion when he was up. This weekend has been an embarrassment. Start Cervelli. Sit Posada on the bench. If he doesn’t like it put him on the DL with mental fatigue.
The Yankees look like they’re loading up on Deep Dish pizza before the games.
Countdown for the pollyanna’s to come in here and tell us it’s just 3 games and it’s a long season…3-2-1
Ugly.
Say whatever you want but Posada stinks behind the plate. I can’t remember once where he stuck his nose in there on a play at the plate.
He’s cost us at least 3 runs in the last 2 games with his arm and weakness behind the plate.
Bad throw by Ransom on a nice play to start. He needs to go soon.
By tomorrow we will be in 2nd place and hopefully Cash can find a waiver move out there.
“It’s been a painful inning for Robertson”
Even more painful for Coke I’d say.
POSada – our catcher.
That was a strike the ump has been brutal. Another reliever throwning over 30 pitches.
Can anyone get a freaking out?
Why does every pitcher in this entire series have to pitch so terribly?
m
you used to be Mel on this blog?
hate????
I havent said a cross word to you, I dont believe.
Girardi will fend off all questions after the game regarding Cody Ransom when asked what his status is with the team.
Protectionism at it’s finest.
This team is going to get swept.
jeezus lord – the pen sucks so much donkey doo right now…
Nothing like a good old fashioned but kicking.
Tomorrow CC (Puff daddy)hands over the division lead,while stealing the Yankees money.
Coke throwing upwards of 30 pitches too, and what a shock, he looks EXHAUSTED out there.
They have to make someone go out there and take one for the team. Leaving your set up men out there to throw 30-40 pitches in games that are OVER is just shortsighted.
They are going to lose far more games down the line if Girardi keeps doing what he’s doing with this bullpen. He is destroying their arms along with their confidence.
Put in Swisher or Ransom to pitch, who cares anymore? Coke, Hughes, Aceves, Bruney, Robertson, everyone is going to be SHOT.
Two things to remember gang:
1) You’re not as good as you are at your best.
2) You’re not as bad as you are at your worst.
Yankees aren’t a .666 team, but they’re not as bad as they’ve been this weekend either. It’s a good club that’s struggling. They’ll be there in October though.
Can Arthur Mercante step in and stop the fight?
Why would Girardi bring in Coke. They are losing by 4 runs. Why is Girardi so scared to use Melancon
big joke
I was upset with this game from the beginning. I knew from when they received a gift of an error and had Alex on at 2nd with no outs & failed it would come back to haunt them.
Girardi has the team in first & I’m not getting crazy and rant too much against Joe, but today’s lineup had me scratching my head. Why in the world would Ransom be playing first? He and Melky create a big hole at the bottom of the lineup. Once Ramiro Pena gets a good grasp of CF down in Scranton I’d love to see him replace Ransom.
i almost never complain about girardi but the only guy who is doing worse then Posada is girardi.
down by 6 and you do 2 intl walks….
give me a friggin break………
I agree…What is the love affair with Ransom?…..He sucks!
Insane, these are literally not even the same Yankees that played prior to this series.
Sloppy Defense, no energy on the offense.
Only thing that worries me more is that the Bullpen is going to be taxed. Lucky we have an off day on Monday..
Remember Pollyanna “Porkchop” Pough? Whatever happened to her?
I really don’t understand that rule. Maybe someone can help explain it?
If he has the ball in the other hand, why does it matter if tags him with the hand without the ball? Either way I see it, the ball
yanks 0-11 against any team with the word sox in them hahaha
coke had a nice outing there..
train wreck. JOKE.. ANY of the loudmouth writers going to call the team on this crap??
Ask Jorge if he needs a day off?
Ask Girardi how can anyone play Ransom? Are the yseriously going to play him again Sunday???No way can that be possible can it???
Where are all you pom-pom people now? Cashman needs to show up in Chicago tonight and give this team a lashing. Girardi isn’t doing it. Pathetic display today. And Jeter just keeps laughing.
Why is Jeter laughing? YOU GUYS SUCK!!!!!
you have to tag the guy with the ball that is baseball 101. there is no electricity like in tag or some other child game…….
Does anyone else think that Cashman looks like Benjamin Linus from LOST? Creepy. I bet he was also in the Dharma Initiative before working for the Yankees, who are now being sabotaged from within by “The Others.”
Who ever their batting coach is,if he becomes available the Yankees should HIRE Him
Thanks Mark!!
CC (Puff Daddy) LOL
“Why is Jeter laughing?”
I’d laugh too if I was making 20 mill a year.
Uhg.
My stomach hurts………
Josh…If it is a force out he can touch the base with any part of his body,it doesn’t matter. But on a tag play he must tag with the ball inside the glove or tag with the ball in his bare hand, . Would you want a player to touch the runner stealing a base with his hand while stretching for the ball with his glove above his head ?
Pom pom person? Did someone call for a pom pom person???
I’ll tell you why Jeter laughing doesn’t bother me at all. Because he knows that this is a real page turner and that the Yankees are not what are represented out on that field today. I actually feel better when Jeter responds that way because he is right. It doesn’t matter whether you lose by a run or 25. It’s a loss. You have to come out tomorrow and turn things around.
(Please don’t mistake this for me getting any enjoyment out of this because I’m not. But that is my overall perspective on the whole deal.)
Punch AJ?
Jeter shouldn’t even be in the game. 14-4. There is nothing good that can happen here.
The yanks obviously don’t have a deep rotation or a deep bullpen. The fact that they did not get any pitching help before the deadline probably means getting killed in October. Only if we had a healthy Wang…
Jim,
But you’re missing the point of my original sarcastic remark. People get so worked up and criticize everyone and everything. They just need to chill.
They think they’re so freaking perfect and that being a ball player is an easy job. Or being the manager is easy, when players don’t show up to play.
For instance, today. It’s not Ransom’s fault that the Yankees are losing 13-4. Yet, people feel it’s necessary to emasculate him today. He’s just a bit player who plays one a week. Either accept the loss as a crappy game by the team, or point the finger at the “stars” who just haven’t gotten it done.
I know none of that makes sense, but it’s how I feel.
What a cess pool of idiots this blog is today.
Whats most scary is that the Yankees are playing as tight as a drum, including the manager. Leaving Aceves to get battered like a pinata last night,burning out Coke today, playing Ransom today when there’s a day off on Monday to rest Tex. Not Joe’s finest managing. His team has followed suit. They are gagging with men on base like they were in April.
Lots of pressure on CC tomorrow. Hope the team shows up to play behind him.
I don’t think I’m going in to work on Monday. If I do, I’m going to wear a bag over my head.
This team,
This over priced payroll,
The biggest joke,Cshman has ever played on the Yankees,
No wonder the owners said no mas ,to another high dollar player.
The core needs to be broken up. This team hasn’t been the dame since 2004.
same since 2004 sorry.
Almost 1200 blogs and they are getting…got skunked. Yankee fans have nothing better to do than complain!!!!
Well let’s get ‘em tomorrow. Hoping the Sux lose both tonight and tomorrow.
M
of course it is not jsut Ransoms fault they lost but there is no logical reason for him to be on the roster, not be pinch hit for in like the 5th inning, so bad decisions add up and = losses..
of course ransom can not effect cano and swisher being horrible with RISP or AJ losing his cool and giving up 6 runs in the inning but playing ransom should not be discounted either…
wow looks like they have a party tonight for the 9th inning speedathon to get out…
this is anaheim deux…….2 terrible terrible series. also Posada needs to sit for a day he has been playing horrible this series, not off but horrble…..
Why is a .190(Ransom) player even in the majors,why?
Jim,
Yes, that’s me.
I get easily offended, so I didn’t take kindly to “stupid comment”.
Ransom stands zero chance of ever getting a pie in the face.
He’s not the sole source of today’s debacle but he added nothing – nada – zilch.
What a pathetic display today. If you take off your pom poms and stop being a cheerleader you’ll see this team has serious problems. Maybe most of you are related to Posada or Ransom like Pat m. Instead of attacking me, talk basevall! The truth hurts sometimes. Just because you haven’t played the game you should still be able to open your eyes and see this team is mailing it in this weekend. They should be called on it.
m-
it all makes sense.
Its not easy to be a ballplayer. But when you are a ballplayer, you need to keep your head in the game, or your manager needs to teach you accountability. that is easy to do.
Cody Ransom is a pretty decent part why when the good Sox only had 8 runs, we did not come back.
WHy bash the stars? because they make the money? I generally dont bash anybody…but,
I’d rather bash the nonYankees, like Cody or Albalaloser, andy phillips, tony womack.
Funny stuff here – an embarassing loss, yes, but still in first place.
Get a life, O Neg-a-Dwellers.
Fan since ’67.
ts
Break up the core, fire Cashman and Girardi. Move Hughes into the rotation next year. Revamp the bullpen and get quality arms. Bring up Montero, Ajax, and Austin Romine.
Hairston should fit in well in the outfield with Melky neither can hit the cutoff man.
again guys like M, cashman, and Girardi think the yanks only need a 23 man roster so they waste spots on tomko, ransom, and others who add absolutley zero to the team..
coke had a especially good outing today…
Cody Ransom is hitting 190 why is he on this team and Shelly Duncan got sent down?
Matt -
I have to ask, are you a Yankees fan? or a Red Sox fan?
Because a Yankees fan might actually say sometihng positive or hope that the team magically gets fundamentally better like I do.
Pete,
There’s someone impersonating me and posting ridiculous stuff in an attempt to mock me.
But on another note, I guess it makes more sense to direct your hatred towards a poster who points out that the guys are playing poorly, rather than the players who are spitting the bit out there? What brilliant logic!
Yanks now 1 and 5 on FOX this year
Just 2 quick observations …
(1) Why is Cody Ransom still on this team?
(2) Phil Coke has a 4.98 ERA with the Yankees and Zach Kroenke has a 0.89 ERA with Scanton. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it’s time for the Yankees to swap these 2 pitchers.
Matt is right. Stop pretending. This team stinks against the teams they need to beat. They are a bully team, pick on the weak, lose to the strong.
Buehrle can’t wait,for CC(Puff Daddy) tomorrow,we’ll get to see what a real Ace is suppose to do,stop you!
Here’s to the wildcard!
Can we put this behind us and start thinking good thoughts for tomorrow?
The Yankees were due for a slump and just glad they’re getting it out of the way before next weekend. They will rebounds, just everyone relax.
Jim,
I don’t condone bashing anyone. But Ransom is inconsequential to me.
I can’t even blame Posada for sucking eggs this series because he’s played a lot. Going back to the Tampa series when it would’ve made sense to go with Molina to counter the running game.
AJ had a bad game, but he just ran into a buzzsaw today. Same thing happened to CC in Anaheim.
Errors and mental lapses, combined with untimely hitting and a poor performance by the bullpen made for an ugly game.
Tomorrow’s another day. And today’s loss feels like 5 losses, but it only counts as one.
Jim,
There are two people posting as “Matt” today. The guy is blatantly trying to impersonate me and act like a fool in some completely misguided attempt to insult me.
When I post negative stuff, I post negative stuff with a real point. I don’t sit there and say how they should DFA and release every guy. I’m surprised you guys haven’t noticed the 2nd guy impersonating me.
The Yankees are a good team but they are flawed. They just aren’t fundamentally sound. They don’t get the most out of the talent they have. Too many mental mistakes, too many missed opportunities both offensively and defensively. Haphazard roster management. Yet they are still in first place. No need to panic, yet it doesn’t mean you turn a blind eye towards their deficiencies and bad habits.
Matt,
Just e-mail Pete. Tell him which one is your real post, and he can delete all the ones that aren’t from your IP address.
Where are all you pom-pom people now?
Hey Matt here I am and it’s MR pom pom to you.
Just got home, Ugly game huh. Too bad this game counts for 21 losses and we are now a 500 ball club. Oh wait it only counts as one. Y
ou keep getting attacked because you are know it all, who is an idiot. Bad combination. Can I recommend a lobotomy, it might cheer you up.
Fire Cashman and bring back George Constanza to this comedy.
Girardi is abusing the bullpen. Bruney threw 35 pitches Coke threw 31 pitchesm Aceves threw 39 pitches, Hughes threw 35 pitches.
Girardi is going to burnout the bullpen. THere was no reason for Coke to even be used today down 4 runs. I cant believe he sent out Bruney again for the 7th. Bruney is a short reliever who just pitched 1.1 scorless innings. That is where he should of used Melancon.
77513,
That’s why the Yankees were foolish to let Tomko go. He was a necessary evil.
m -
I know it’s only one game. ANd Cody may be inconsequential to you, but he is not to the team when he plays, nor is he when there is one less useful player on the bench.
I cannot deal with mental errors in a loss or a win. Why? Because the acceptance of mental errors breeds more mental errors. And we make our share of mental errors in wins also.
Tomorrow’s another day, to hope for better. But the fundamental flaw with this team of the last 5 years is the same. INCONSISTENCY
What’s really frustrating about this team is that its lack of hitting with runners in scoring position has been going on for about 2 years now. That doesn’t bode well for a team with hopes of making the playoffs and making a big run in the post season.
back with some reaction? How about “you tip your cap to them” or “we played like dogs” or even “there are plenty of games left… we have to play better”…
duh.
“Start Cervelli. Sit Posada on the bench. If he doesn’t like it put him on the DL with mental fatigue.”
Now you’re beginning to scare me.
Hope get’s you no where. Where did all that hope get the yankees from 2004-2008. This team is flawed they can’t compete with the strong teams, and they aren’t the 1999 yankees or 1998 yankees. Hell they aren’t even the 2004 yankees. The 1998 team had winners, guys with heart and grit, not a bunch of baby superstars.
77513,
That’s why the Yankees were foolish to let Tomko go. He was a necessary evil.
——————————————-
Or he can use Melancon today not wait until Coke gets lit up. Melancon only threw 18 pitches last night and has not pitched very much since the allstar break.
I’m a lurker. Read, but usually don’t post.
Anyway, it would be silly for anybody to really bash the offense too much over this game. Pitching and defense is what lost it. That would be the same for yesterday’s game.
But there are some big time problems in coaching and management. Here’s some thoughts:
1) 8th inning and Cody Ransom is up. You would think that they would pinch hit for him…except that the only right-handed bat on the bench was Molina and a lefty was pitching. Oops. Where was Duncan? Oh yeah, sent back down. So much for having a right handed bat on the bench.
2) Every Yankee regular is hitting worse that his average with RISP. Coaching problem? Or is Cashman and the front office bringing those kind of players in?
3) Cashman failed to get a pitcher before the deadline. Yeah, like Pete says, he can still get one on a waiver trade. But that will take 2-3 weeks, minimum. They needed a guy now.
4) The Hairston trade only made sense if it was to replace Ransom. Putting both of those guys on the bench doesn’t strengthen the team.
I’m really starting to lose faith in the front office. I still have faith in the players. Not so much the administration.
Matt -
I can see there is a Matt poser.
Not in regards to any of your posts today, I just wanted to know if you have anything positive to say or are you a Red Sox fan trying to upset NYY fans
like how AJ has been great this season. CC has been average, and we are not paying him for average. ANd i fully expect him to lead us down the stretch. I’d hope you think that as well.
Jim,
Agreed. Losses are much easier to accept if they try their best (just like little league!).
Go Baltimore. Don’t forget, Beckett puts his pants on the same way Livan does.
They are going to lose first round again in the playoffs. To bad it won’t be enough for Girardi and Cashman to get fired.
Another point: A-Rod, Teixera, and Jeter all had multiple hits in this game. They did their part.
Stop with the psychoanalyzing. AJ didn’t have it today, at all, for the first time in a long time……It happens to all pitchers. You’d think that his long stretch of excellent performances would have bought him some kind of slack. It’s rough that he just blew up in the 2nd, but that’s life……..He’s been able to work his way through games where he’s had iffy control – that takes guts. It’s almost impossible to work through a game where you don’t have anything working for you.
Seriously – I’m getting really tired of Joe. I agree with GLove that Cash has to take Ransom away from him. I have no idea why Joe sees anything in him, but he’s blinded by his love for this guy. I just came back from dinner – how many pitches did Joe let Bruney throw? I think I read 30 something? That’s unbelievable. Joe is going to ruin this whole pitching staff. Can anyone tell me how many innings or pitches AJ threw? He was probably pushed beyond his limits as well.
M, ok……. you promised, lol. Spill it!
“4) The Hairston trade only made sense if it was to replace Ransom. Putting both of those guys on the bench doesn’t strengthen the team.”
I totaly agree Hairston is an upgrade from Ransom but keeping both him and Ransom on the team makes zero sense, this is not the national league we do not need two utility players. The red sox added Casey Kotchman to there bench.
LOL
I’m pretty sure that the Red SOx hire young children at slave wages like in other countries to put the pants on for them
Wow, Coke and Bruney threw over 30 pitches each? That’s absolutely unacceptable and Cashman has to step in. I’m thisclose to reaching the breaking point with Joe
Montero was 1-1 with an RBI single, then was crossed up on a pitch (called passed ball) and hurt his throwing hand. No word on the damage.
anyone who says that TOmko should be on the roster should be banned from posting here!!!!
Does anyone disagree with that?
TOmko serves the same purpose of Ransom, NONE>>>>
Burnett should get a pass today he has been pitching so well. Its tough to get on him for pitching a bad game today. He did get squeezed a couple of times too.
I’d bat a lefty who was batting 0-100 versus a lefty pitcher in favor of Ransom if the game was on the line.
burnett has pitched pretty well but look at his #’s.. THe problem is we set the bar so low..
Burnett leads the league in walks by a lot.. he has a 3.80 ERA.. He is not exactly dwight gooden…
2) Every Yankee regular is hitting worse that his average with RISP. Coaching problem? Or is Cashman and the front office bringing those kind of players in?
I am not sure if that’s true or not, But I will say in spite of that we lead MLB in RBI”S and runs scored. Go figure.
4) The Hairston trade only made sense if it was to replace Ransom. Putting both of those guys on the bench doesn’t strengthen the team.
I agree with that. I hope the reason is they are waiting on Gardner to DFA Ransom.
————————————
Bruney is a short reliever who is coming off the dl from an arm injury. He pitched 1.1 scoreless innings today I couldn’t believe Girardi sent him out for another inning. Coke should of never even been in the game down 4 runs. Melancon should of pitched the 7th and 8th inning.
I had to step away for a while, how’d the yankees make out today?
the reason the yanks lead baseball in runs scored are 2 reason and they are very simple they have the most baserunners by a lot and 2 they hit a ton of homers. the angels have the best batting avg but do not walk a lot and have decent power only…..
more men on base means more runs even when you suck with RISP like the yanks do…..
What Bruney have you been watching? Yikes.
Joe should know by now Swisher doesn’t hit well in the top of the order.I miss Gardner’s help.
Beckett’s on the mound for THE RS,it’s 99.8% they win tonight.
Anythings possible of course!
The big concern with Bruney isn’t how many pitches he threw.
He pitched in 3 separated innings. He had to warm up 3 times. Not good for a guy who’s used to pitching just one inning at a time.
Betsy,
Mm. Okay. It’s really not the right day to do it, but I promised. We can blame today’s loss on a Kevin Kernan (NY Post columnist) jinx.
He was on the Monty show, and talking about the Yankees. Saying all kinds of good stuff, talking them up.
And he started talking about AJ. And he said something about how AJ’s been pitching well, and since the stinker in Boston, he’s really taken it upon himself. And in Kernan’s opinion has become the ace of the staff. Fran mentioned the same thing at the top of the post, and I’m sure some people had it in the backs of their minds that AJ’s been pitching like an ace. But it was the first time I had heard anyone say it out loud.
So, I’m laughing while I’m driving because the first person I thought of when I heard it was you. So anyway, that’s that. Nothing earth-shattering, but it was nice for AJ to get some props. He also talked about how grown up AJ is, considering the reputation that preceded him.
Any truth to the rumor that Montero broke his throwing hand?
by the way,
i usually never metnion this, but with a $200 mil payroll, we could get any better bench player utility guy than Ransom. For god sakes, we could stick Ransom on roids, and if he gets caught, then we take care of him for life
Where are the Red Sox castaways when you need them. Roberto Petagine, Cesar Crespo, Brandon MOss
Girardi showed his attitude towards his bullpen yesterday when he refused to say he’d left Ace in there too long after having a tired shoulder. With his old defensiveness in full array, he said “That’s his job — to pitch — and we needed innings.” (Not a quote, but close enough)
Not liking the Joe from last season rearing his ugly head again.
I guess Joe’s “new attitutde” only applies when they’re winning…
———————————–
Well that is what Burnett is. He is a solid number 2 starter who will pitch 200 plus innings and win between 15-18 games with the yanks if he is healthy. He is not an ace. I dont think any yankee fan could expect that just look at his career numbers.
Stuart, he had a 3.53 ERA coming into today – that’s very very solid and I will venture to guess that no one expected AJ to be that good. People are obsessed with walks, but the guy almost never gives up hits… I think most reasonable Yankee fans will not get on his case (though I’ve already seen some tras him).
Guess What? The Yankees have stunk for the past 3 days, they know it more than all of you. And they will get over it, will you?
For those of you who don’t like ‘burning out the bullpen’ who do you pitch in the 7th and 8th innings if the pitchers can’t get outs or everything hit by the Sox is dropping in, Nick Swisher or Cody Ransom? The game was still in reach until the 8th. If he brings in Melancon and he gets lit up you’d be complaining even more.
If CC pitches well tomorrow he has Hughes and Mo available,
that’s more than enough to get a win. If CC gets lit up, they will probably lose again and have an off day Monday for everyone to get some rest.
It’s baseball, they play 162 games, teams go through hot streaks and cold streaks. The Yankees of the ’50s once had an 18 game winning streak and then lost 9 in a row, I wonder what would have been said if this blog existed then.
Any truth to the rumor that Montero broke his throwing hand?
I agree Burnett has been great,and won’t win every game he starts.
Please Cody,
Be a man of honor and ask Cashman to DFA you and set you up with a cushy job for life.
I think there would be a lot of bad words caught up in the filter.
These past 3 games have been a disaster, but hopefully CC can lead them in getting out of their funk tomorrow and we win a game
Oh, Lord. I just realized we’re 2-4 on the road trip so far. Need to win tomorrow.
————————————————————
S.A., nobody knows the condition of Montero’s hand injury. He was hurt on a crossup, but, he’s still sitting on the bench, getting treatment. Pay no attention to “GL”.
The yanks will bounce back they had a terrible series against Anaheim and then went on a run.
What would heath bell have cost yesterday???????
Why is Ransom on the team??????????????????
Why does Ransom bat and Hinski sit with risp????????????????
It sure is going to be fun in October facing these guys with the addition of Peavy, they have got to be really scared to face the Yanks!
77513, ugh – that’s terrible. I really don’t even know what to say anymore.
M, lol – thanks. That’s nice to hear, regardless of how AJ did today. He’s a really, really good guy – I think his problem elsewhere was that he never let the media see it. He was good with his teammates, but clearly had issues with the media – and AJ would admit that. Weeks ago, Pete mentioned that AJ came up to him and said that he enjoyed the give and take……..so maybe the guy just grew up and relaxed a bit. I really think AJ has been the best Yankee starter this year….and I’ve not lost any confidence in him. I’m sorry the game wasn’t on YES so we won’t get any post-game show, but I’m sure AJ is feeling terrible and putting the blame squarely on himself. All I can ask is that a player be accountable……and AJ has been that.
This yankee team is a joke. Time to clean house and plan for 2010. I will pray and hope for Girardi and Cashman being fired.
GB….that’s why I asked for confirmation to the rumor I read….Thanks for filling me in.
Thanks GB7! Heart Rate now slowly going down.
Hopefully nothing too major with young Jesus
I just thought of this.
