The incentives in this deal are dumb. Is there really a 500K difference between pitching 160 innings and 170 innings? Or 180 to 190 innings?

Shouldn't the player be rewarded on whether or not he pitched well? Say ERA? WHIP? Perhaps wins? Now you're paying him simply on health, so he can go out pitch to a 7.77 ERA the rest of the year but because the Yankees have no other option but to keep him in the rotation he will make all of his money.

Trumpetman
I never made fun of any Yankee players for doing steroids. I said many times that I wouldnt be surprised about anybody these days. It doesnt matter which team they belong.

agree same with Francona and red sox they whine and complain about Joba but they didn’t seem to mind when Pedro was on the mound and throwing at yankee hitters.

Well Joba throws over people's head and that will scare some people you know. I just wished Joba was on the NL. He wouldnt dare throw over anybody's head because he would have gotten his due when he stepped at the batter's box.

I'm so glad I shared Boston dirtdogs with this blogs.
YOU GUYS should've read it when Gagne was on the RS team.
The Yankees AT THAT TIME was still managed by TORRE.
They were 13.5 games out,and won the wildcatd.
The RS were scared because the Yankees were coming back and had momentum, and this site was off the hook crazy, talking about the players.

Good morning, dennis. Yes, I am back home. I actually saw your reply to my post yesterday several hours later, when I lande, and replied back. Thanks again for your well wishes.

I recall that you are a 'fan' of my 'photography', so I'm going to try to get a few recent pics up onto my flickr page. This will relieve me of any potential pangs of guilt I might feel over wishing losses to the Sox.

Aww, who am I kidding... that would never happen.

I always love Simmons' columns and podcasts despite his disgusting love of the Celtics, Patriots and Sux! He knows his stuff and he's one of the funniest people ESPN have ever hired. I love his podcasts in the fall where he predicts the NFL point spreads each week...he has some really classic one-liners.

Couple of baseball things:

1) How much has Dustin Nippert improved this year??? His ERA is now under 3.30...I didn't think he'd be more than an average ML journeyman reliever, but he is really impressing me with his poise and pitch selection on the mound.

2) For all that Andre Ethier has done this year and last year (and he definitely has been a great bat for LA this year once again)...he is a bit like Cano this year with men on base, although not quite as startling:

Empty: .301/.369/.602
RISP: .228/.350/.409

He's also already grounded into 17 double plays...3rd in the NL, and his career high is just 10.

http://sports.espn.go.com/stations/player?id=4374853

Here's the Bill Simmons/Jack-O podcast.

It's long (50+ min), but a must-listen. Great tail-between-the-legs stuff mixed with some great humor.

Funny line about Varitek reaching the "he calls a great game" status. No bat, can't throw out a runner, but "he calls a great game."

Also, he echoes what I thought about the Red Sox's recent tear. They've gone into "f-u mode". I thought it was because they want to PROVE those championship were legit. Either way, they're motivated.
