Game 108: Red Sox at Yankees, Part II
This is a LHYB first, we need to start a new thread because there are 1,300 comments on the first one in the fourth inning.
So here you go. Updates will be posted here now.
UPDATE, 8:53 p.m.: Smoltz done, LHP Billy Traber in. This could get ugly.
UPDATE, 8:59 p.m.: Like I said, ugly. Still hatin’ on Posada? 3 for 3 with a double, a homer and two runs scored.
UPDATE, 9:05 p.m.: Muhammad Ali just stood up and said, “Stop the fight! Stop the fight!”
UPDATE, 9:14 p.m.: Um, Joba. You’re up by six. Throw strikes.
You want to control his innings? Get him out after five tonight. Robertson, Melancon, etc.
UPDATE, 9:23 p.m.: Joba has to be done after that mess.
UPDATE, 9:27 p.m.: 5 innings, 6 hits, 4 runs, a career-high 7 walks, 5 stikeouts, 2 home runs, 2 doubles. Pull the plug and see you on Tuesday.
UPDATE, 9:42 p.m.: Crowd is announced at 49,005. That’s a record. Second sellout of the season, first since Opening Day.
UPDATE, 9:59 p.m.: The Yankees have acquired Chad Gaudin from the Padres for a player to be named later. That could be it for Sergio Mitre.
UPDATE, 10:23 p.m.: OK, need to work on my newspaper story. Yanks up 13-4 and the streak will finally end.
Waiting on John Henry’s next Tweet. Back later with reaction.

Smoltz is out.
Matsui could go yard on Traber here…
Time to go back to golf, John.
Tex for MVP!
huh?
Pete, I think Yanks Sox can save the newspaper industry through your blog.
Thank you so much Pete for listening to me!!!!
You really do pay attention to the little people!
Thanks Pete
PS the site is giving me virus messages
Let’s Go Yankees!!!
At this rate, we’re going to end up with 5 game threads.
Grand Slam? we haven’t had one in awhile. go Godzilla!
You should have left the previous post up to see if it could crack 3,000 posts by the time it was all over.
new thread, same list…
LIST OF PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CHEER IF THE YANKEES WIN:
Chickie
JZ
Jeremy
Al From BK (eh tu)
BRYAN
I will continue adding names as the game progresses
Thanks for the new thread,Pete. It was like a swamp in the other thread.
Abe I’m refreshing every other minute to see what you write next! Thank you!
“That’s probably why I’ve always loved him. (Notice my tagline!)
Da Melk has been my favorite player for a long time.
Yay, I helped.
Also, notice MY tagline before this one. Why was I still fighting Vernon Wells?
We need Joba to shut them down for however long he has left.
Billy freakin Traber
I think Pete could save the newspaper industry or at least launch it in a new direction.
Traber stinks. Matsui should be able to hit him.
wow, 1300+ comments in the 4th inning!
That’s awesome Pete, fitting for the best blog in baseball!
Traber was a Yankee, no?
“Also, notice MY tagline before this one. Why was I still fighting Vernon Wells?”
I was wondering the same thing. LOL!
Thanks for being on top of things Pete.
We should have let the assorted idiots stay in the first thread.
Joba’s being sitting a long time but has to appreciate the run support tonight.
Smoltz’s e.r.a. is now higher than Sergio Mitre’s.
Last year I think Billy was with the Yankees. Just a cup of coffee though.
Whoa he looks old too. Looks like a senior center on the mound for Boston tonight!
Please Peter Gammon’s, tell me again how smart Theo is.
Smoltz, Penny, DL Baldeli…
This performance is why Moose left. Like George Costanza, leave on a high note.
I joked much earlier today that we would probably need a new thread in the 7th. I never thought we would fill it up by the 4th!
Smoltz is so washed up, I love it.
Does anyone on the Sux not have male pattern baldness?
Matsui is like a statue up there.
Memories… of the way we were….
Shall we take a stroll down memory lane with Peter Gammons…
From a Boston Globe chat in January 2009:
“[Comment From Stephen H]
Do you feel the Sox staff if healthy with the addition of Smoltz, and Penny is tops in the american league?
Peter Gammons:
I think it could be the best. Obviously Josh Beckett has to be healthy and I think they really improved the setup crew in front of Papelbon with the addition of Ramirez, and Masterson and Okajima. Obviously they should have three really good starters, the alternatives with Wake, Smoltz, Penny, Buchholz, and Bowden could be potentially the deepest staff in the league.
I love the Smoltz signing. Both John Farrell and Ben Cherington went to Atlanta to watch him throw and were very impressed. And Smoltz is one of those rare players who thrives on pressure and crowds.
What’s interesting about Penny, is that if he had gone out on the market last winter, he would have gotten an A.J. Burnett contract b/c he was coming off finishing third in Cy Young race. He did break down the last three months, but Burnett has broken down 2-3 times himself. Over the last three years, Burnett and Penny have each won 38 games, and Burnett has only averaged 10 more innings a season. One of the reasons Penny wanted Boston was b/c of the way that Terry Francona and John Farrell handle pitchers, so there’s a good chance he can turn out to be a major contributor. ”
http://www.boston.com/sports/b…..peter.html
just wanna say once again, RF is a joke, but the Yankees have done fairly well capitalising on that situation, esp in late innings, while benefiting from have mostly strikeout pitchers,
however have to think Kotchman was acquired with NYS right field in mind.
Kay- Pujols has 5 Grand Slams this year
oh wow.
Finally, Trabermetrics will work in OUR favor!
“Grand Slam? we haven’t had one in awhile. go Godzilla!”
I would love to see one. It would blow the game wide open.
Wow, Im part of bloging history now. I’ll be able to tell my grandkids that I remember that yank/sox game when a new thread was put up mid game!!!
Jim Kaat is such a good analyst, it’s a shame the Yankees didn’t bring him back this year.
Billy Traber and Kenny Rogers must have been separated at birth.
Is there a comment limit??
We need to step on Boston’s throat here …. Can’t leave it at 5-3.
BTW I predicted a crooked number this inning, just saying!! lol
come on Godzilla
“Kay- Pujols has 5 Grand Slams this year”
Amazing, although I remember Donnie Baseball hitting 6 in one year.
i dun remba traber on yanks last year
“Al from BK”Traber was a Yankee, no?
You should know…you are a die-hard loyal yankee fan who never gives up on his team, no?
Where did Matsui get those wheels?
August 6th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
Jim Kaat is such a good analyst, it’s a shame the Yankees didn’t bring him back this year.
He retired, of his own volition.
i’ll take it.
This is for CB
The speedy…..Matsui?
Was hoping for a HR but that works too.
Who says he has bad knees?
Smoltz should’ve learned a thing or two from Moose: Go out on the top.
Too many old elite pitchers go out kicking and screaming…and all washed up. (e.g. Glavine, Pedro, Smoltz)
way to hustle godzilla! I like the extra run
Godzilla run fast
Who hits behind Pujols? If I were in the NL managing a team, I’d walk Pujols and let the one run come in.
ok, no grand salami but at least we get something.
Laura – Release the list!!
August 6th, 2009 at 8:57 pm
“Kay- Pujols has 5 Grand Slams this year”
Amazing, although I remember Donnie Baseball hitting 6 in one year.
***
I believe it was 1987
Matsui can run!!!!!
Even with those knees, always hustling!
nah kay said traber was a yankee last year
Oops forgot the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78Ruh0ewBVo
i was just about to type “just no DP” right before he swung. Matsui’s running a lot better, thankfully.
Matsui’s knees must be feeling okay.
It took Hideki about 28 seconds to putter down the line, but he got the job done.
You can never blame Hideki for not trying, that’s for sure.
I think Matsui borrowed Gardner’s knees while the latter’s on the DL.
Great job by Alex to slide hard and force Pedroia to slide to the side to make his throw. The half a second it took him to slide was the difference between a double play, and a 6th run.
As slow as Traber is, this game will be over at 2am.
A run’s a run.
Yanks taking control of this game, it also means Matt and some of his intellects are gone
posada finds his way out of the doghouse….
Posada!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK POSADA WE FORGIVE YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Hell yeah!
lol Jorge
I love Posada. Bad base running and all.
Cervelli would have hit a grand slam
Posada with EPIC retribution!
Jorge atones
OK, does Posada stop taking crap now from the blog?
Jorge is REDEEMED! Hip hip Jorge!
YAY!!!
Can we redeem Posada from the dog house where everyone banished him earlier??
Do we like him again??
This could be the shot that puts it away.
I don’t care how positive or how negative people are. This would be an AWFUL loss for the Yanks.
WOW. Making up.
I think posada MORE than made up for that incident before
Posoda made up fo da mistake he made by not sliding … he made it up big time
Yes! Posada redeems himself, plus more.
REDEMPTION!!
I forgive you, Posada!
I def just scared my apt neighbors!
Posada – you are redeemed!!!
ok Posada is totally forgiven
Jorge trying to make up for that botched play at home.
Jorge knew it.
Nice freakin way to redeem yourself! Let’s go!!
Why is he still in this game? He should have been benched!!!!!
Jorge!!!!!
SLIDE, JORGE, SLIDE!
hip hip hoorayy!!!!!!
Again, when everyone benched Posada earlier, please take those three runs off the board and instead pencil in a ground out to 2B for Molina.
got to go through Hell before you get to Heaven…
So where are all the people who wanted Posada benched? Yeah, he just shut you all up
Posada totally should have been benched after that non slide. LOL IDIOTS
What was it Matt?
“Bench Posada”.
Yeah, good one.
This is why you don’t bench Jorgie for Molina.
Matsui and his hustle deserve plenty of credit for that Posada jack. I hope he gets it.
That was a very impressive homerun.
And the Yankees are pouring it on!
if u make a play as bad as he did… that’s what a pro does right there. What a way to bounce back… man I am loving this
tj, Kaat’s wife passed away last year and he wanted to come back as a regular analyst but YES didn’t want him. Just a waste, if you ask me.
Robbie!
Trabermetrics: the gift that keeps giving!
I guess Girardi’s tough-love approach worked, eh Matt?
If it were not for Posada…would be 10-3….
CB-
Thanks for the blast from the past. As I type this, I forgive Jorge for the bad play he made a few innings ago.
cano is made underrated he shud be up dere wit perdoia
someone make a list of all the whiners crying for Posada’s head before.
Does Joba smell it? Can he get 3 outs for a cheap win? I dont think so, his leash will be ultra thin now with the lead, but we’ll see. Thats baseball Suzyn, you never know!!!
That Jorge. He’s such a bad catcher – all he does is own Red Sux and hit homeruns. CISCO CERVELLI IS OUR CATCHER !!!1111one one one
Something tells me B*st*n will, unfortunately, score at least 6 more runs in this game.
Posada may have set a record for most negative comments about him in the same game that he has a singe, double, HR, 3 RBI, 2R
See Matt, that’s why you don’t go little league and pull veterans out of a game when they screw up.
They usually redeem themselves.
Billy Traber, the gift that keeps on giving.
And Smoltz is one of those rare players who thrives on pressure and crowds.
**********
Yep he thrived under the pressure and crowd at YS.
Best part is maybe we can win this game with the back of the bullpen. Rest up the better guys for the weekend.
Kaat is right. Matsui’s running made a big difference. His knees are probably calling 911 right now, but it was worth it.
Triple shy of the cycle
Redemption is sweet, no?
Yeah, Baby!!!
Posada is a triple away from the cycle.
Just sayin’.
Joba needs to hang a 0 in the 5th.
Seriously, get Posada out of the game before he gets another hit. He is killing the Yankees.
YESSSSSSSSSSSS!
JOR-HEY!
now jorge just needs a triple lol
Suzyn:
Can Jorge get a triple??
cycle baby?
Btw- Billy Traber was briefly a Yankee last year and went up and down to Scranton once or twice.
They DFA’ed him some point during the season
I keep a list of Yankees on the 25 man. Its a weird thing I do
“tj, Kaat’s wife passed away last year and he wanted to come back as a regular analyst but YES didn’t want him. Just a waste, if you ask me.”
That’s a shame. Would be great to have him back in the booth.
Give credit to Kenny Singleton. He called it. Said in the beginning of the game that Posada is close.
See we are the Red Sox of the recent past… they are us of the recent past….. and Billy Traber is the symbol of all of that
I hate to see Smoltz go out like this. I’ll always remember him in a Braves uniform during the 1991 WS classic that he pitched.
Hip- Hip! Jorge!! Traber looks like a Home Run Derby BP Pitcher tonight!
Kaat? You mean Singleton?
It had nothing to do with Smoltz not thriving under pressure.
His fastball is terrible. He can longer get major league hitters out.
“Something tells me B*st*n will, unfortunately, score at least 6 more runs in this game.”
Yeah, wow, me too!
Vintage whatever.
YOU MAJOR FOOL
Let’s score 20 runs on these bums tonight.
hey nice chants “Boston Sucks” .. dats wa da idoits in boston wen we play dem up dere
Posada still has not slid into home plate in three chances.
Ah that is the old YS, the Boston sucks chants are back.
Swisha flirting with a lf hr.
Good to see some vitriolic Boston chants ringing in the old Stadium again. Just like old times.
Lots of guys look locked in right now at the plate.
Hey, guys….I have a question….
Do all these runs the Yankees are scoring count??
Because, like, you know…wasn’t this game over in like the 3rd inning???
You called?
all is forgiven jorge
the chance of Jorge hitting for the cycle is about as high as the chance of Girardi benching him for not sliding, ZERO.
LOL Pete! Tell ‘em
I have always been with you on that one. How anyone can hate on Posada is beyond me.
MG

tj, Kaat’s wife passed away last year and he wanted to come back as a regular analyst but YES didn’t want him. Just a waste, if you ask me.
Oh really? Well, fail on the Yankees part then
No one warming in the Boston pen. Looks like Francona is conceding and letting Traber take one for the team.
Anybody know a good Sox blog I can check out?
“Posada may have set a record for most negative comments about him in the same game that he has a singe, double, HR, 3 RBI, 2R”
too true
We need to send a message to the front office. RF needs to be fixed. And there should never be an empty seat in the house. In the old stadium (where there were thousands of seats more) the place was always filled the the brim. This new place needs some emotion built into it and it feels like a cheap date.
The Red Sox OF would have to collectively pass out for Posada to leg out a triple.
Post seen on SoSH right after Jorge’s HR:
Any new tweets from John Henry?
Does he still like this team? Still think “MT” is a curse?
http://sonsofsamhorn.net/index.....mp;st=2300
Matt,
Hello….
Hello….
Oh. I forgot. You probably aren’t by your computer just blogging about a baseball game.
What an embarrassment your posts are.
Boston has great rotation depth? Theo just went for names and they stink, too bad for smoltz he shoulda stayed in atlanta.
Is tiwtter down tonight? Wtf
This game is far from over. BOS is quite capable of doing their own damage. Joba and the bullpen have to buckle down and get ‘er done!
Geez, still in the 4th and it’s 9pm already, will need lots of coffee tomorrow at work.
lots not turn into fenway park people and chant boston sucks every chance we get now.
lots can change, still 5 innings to go
Poor joba. Stay loose, my man!
LIST OF PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CHEER IF THE YANKEES WIN:
Chickie
JZ
Jeremy
Al From BK (eh tu)
BRYAN
I will continue adding names as the game progresses
We have 12 hits.
Is it time for Joba to bean Youkilis again?
Don’t forget the Red sox OF contains youkilis tonight.
Is Joba still awake?
First- what are the odds Posada gets a triple for the cycle? Sterling just said that Posada said he could get a triple if all three outfielders fell down.
Second – did anyone see a monkey? No monkeys here!
Can Melky hit two 3 run homers in the same inning?
Dang. Traber sacrificed to the wolves.
I’m not taking anything for granted. We had a 6 run lead on these guys once before this year if I recall.
I did post that Billy Traber makes Sergio Mitre look like an ace, right?
Traber is doing his best imitation of Anthony Claggett’s debut against the Indians.
Take out Joba … forget about getting him a win, he’s been sitting too long.
Put in the pitcher with the lowest ERA … Swisher!!!
We need 2 clean innings from Joba now.
Get 6 in the books without allowing anymore runs.
two 3 run homers in one inning?
This inning is the breakthrough the Yanks needed.
Wait,….Melky’s up again? Didn’t he just hit a 3 run shot earlier in the inning?
Billy Traber’s getting Scott Proctored tonight. Someone tell him to pop some Tylenol after tonight’s game.
I think Posada gets absolution for the boneheaded baserunnign mistake today.
“Posada may have set a record for most negative comments about him in the same game that he has a singe, double, HR, 3 RBI, 2R”
Comment of the night.
Yanks need to get 10 more runs this inning.
Joba definitely will be giving up runs next inning.
“The Red Sox OF would have to collectively pass out for Posada to leg out a triple.”
Pretty much. LOL!
did you all see the other night Longoria became the first player in over 50 years to hit 2 HR and strike out 4 times in the same game?
CB, what did I do?
ESPN must be going crazy right now…
“Anybody know a good Sox blog I can check out?”
Check the Boston Herald tommorow, or now. But tommorow it could be full of bridge jumpers.
This is the Billy Traber I remember well.
So good to see him wearing a hat with the “B” on it now.
keep makin traber work so dey bring out bullpen arms and we have em tired
“LIST OF PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CHEER IF THE YANKEES WIN:

How is RDM not on this list?
Something tells me Posada will not get that triple. Don’t know why…just have a hunch.
If this inning lasts any longer, Joba won’t have a chance to get the win. You know, long layover…like a rain delay…gotta protect your pitcher and all that.
let me explain what needs to happen in the 5th inning…
Joba needs to get 3 outs and not give any back.
If he does that the game is over, period.
Love the crookedest of numbers, but still need some guys other than the Hughes-Aceves-Coke-Mo horseman to eat up 9 or 10 outs.
SJ – what is the latest on your nephew? Is the morale of the minor leaguers in the Pirates system high because there is more opportunity to move up or low because the good ones always get traded away?
This Traber guy is slow!!!!!
This game is far from over.
That 13 inning loss to Tampa two nights ago is killing the sox.
Tito is literally raising a white flag here on the game.
What a signal to send your team to start out a huge 4 game set in the bronx.
Melky missed his pitch.
Posada’s most likely to get a triple if he just stops at third on what otherwise would be a home run.
“The Red Sox OF would have to collectively pass out for Posada to leg out a triple.”
Sounds like what Posada said when asked about a triple
“all three outfielders would have to fall down”
That was great. Back to work Jobber
“How is RDM not on this list?”
I don’t think he’s been on tonight. Didn’t he go to the game?
miggs- my question exactly
2 hours, 4 innings. Sounds like a typical yankee sox game
. I’m going to have to drink a whole pot of coffee tomorrow to make it through work
Okay, give us a 1-2-3 Joba!
I guess it’s safe to come to the Lohud Blog to play now.
YKW sets the world’s record for lowest baseball IQ?
It is just amazing how little he knows and how unafraid he is to show it publicly
I know this game isn’t over-
But last night I totally predicted the Yankees would win a laugher tonight. I would love to see that hold up!
So let me see, unless we won a game against the Sux we wouldn’t be able to go anywhere this season.
I guess we’re on our way to being cleared to going somewhere this season.
PHEW!
Hopefully Joba can throw some strikes…..!!!!!
If Anthony Claggett pitches we may have a game.
Game far from over, Joba needs to get some quick outs….nice inning Yanks…..

Mike Timlin Anyone?
Welcome back to the party Doreen!
Should I put out appetizers?
Truth be told Posada is a legend. He’s carried on the tradition of great Yankee catchers-Dickey, Berra, Howard, Munson, Posada.
The game most certainly isn’t over, with the way Joba’s pitching and our pen……so, I’m hardly putting this in the win column at this point. That said, nice job pounding the ball – hopefully they can keep it up.
I can’t believe people were yelling for Jorge to be pulled. It’s once thing to be critical of a play, but leave it at that. When you freak out, it makes you sound ridiculous and as if you don’t know anything about baseball. Saying he should be pulled or punished or whathave you is beyond ludicrous.
YEA! I loves me an 8-spot!
Do we get a mulligan on all the negative things we said in the first thread?
This is a big test for Joba. Can he man up and pitch well with the lead?
Joba can give up a hit or two, i don’t care but NO FRIGGIN WALKS!!!
Now we just gotta hope Joba isn’t stiff, puts together a quick inning, and we get back to mashing.
now joba needs to get back to being joba
THROW STRIKES!
Posada will get a triple!
I call it!!!!
Jorge has gotten 9 triples in his 15 year career. So it is possible.
If we hold on this is huge. Not only stops the skid, but allows us some leniency in the remaining 3 games.
Joba hasn’t pitched since the last thread…
Yep the red soxs got v-mart becuase the Yankees got Mark Tex. Okay.
We’re slackers. SOSH has 2532 comments.
“Mike Timlin Anyone?”
Where is our old friend Timlin? Is he out of baseball?
MG, we all know the tool Y.K.W. is a Sux troll and just pretends to root for the Yankees, and he knows we know, and he comes here just to be the equivalent of itch powder in a jockstrap, but for whatever reason Pete hasn’t knocked him off yet. He offed him last season when he posted here under the screenname of ER. Hopefully his days are numbered here.
NO WALKS!
Billy Traber on Boston kind of reminds me of when the Yanks picked up Alan Embree mid season after Boston cut him.
I am still 100% convinced Embree was sent over to infiltrate the Yankee organization and back fire wherever he could
strikes joba. strikes please
also I would say that Francona might sacrifice this game so that he doesnt overruse the bullpen for the next 3 games. They already threw a ton of innings in tampa on tue and wed.
unbelievable
damn jobaa
C’mon, Joba!
Just hope that Joba can get through the next 2 innings.
“Jorge has gotten 9 triples in his 15 year career. So it is possible.”
I have a feeling that he got those 9 triples early in his career. LOL!
The Boston Harbor patrol has called in all off duty personnel to patrol the Charles River tonight….Be on the alert for bridge jumpers……Joba, just attack with your fastball…..Walks the leadoff hitter, this is not good…..Play catch with Jorge, stop thinking
Can Joba just get through 5 innings so he’s eligible for a win?
Erica the thing I always hate most about Yankee laughers and really high scoring games is that invariably the next days runs are at a premium.
Joba just sat for something like 35 minutes. He’s stiff. He’ll get it back. I’d like a strike here, though. Five in a row is too many.
Just a horrible performance by Joba. No excuse, none to walk Martinez for the third time with a 6-run lead.
hehe. plunk him!
Joba come on
strikes!!!!!
please baby boy its called strikes!!!!
my kingdom for a strike
That is just ill. 6 straight balls with a 6 run lead.
Joba sat out a very long inning. It may have wreaked havoc with him.
Phil,
he’s doing well. Thanks for asking.
He’s hitting .330 and doing well. Out of the lineup tonight because of a sore foot after fouling a ball off his foot last night.
Not what we need from Joba right now.
damnnnnnnnn 7 in a row
I take that back…what a horrible job by Joba tonight. I hope Joe gets him out and he cannot get the 5 innings for the win.
What a joke he is tonight.
Come on Joba. I know you had a long lay off. But throw a pitch down the middle.
8
they better warm up Melancon
Get him out if you have to. Can’t let the Sox get themselves back in this game.
Joba with no command. Wow maybe he shouldn’t be back out there.
His youth is showing. A veteran pitcher doesn’t have this problem.
Hmm, did Joba sit too long?
Girardi has to try to coax at least 3 more outs from Joba, but man is this painful.
Uh Oh
get him out
yesssss
finally jobaer
Joba sat down for too long. He’s cold.
Get the pen ready – could be a long night.
Is RDM here?
Alright, maybe he won’t get it back. He just sat for way too long. As shakey as he was, it’s not hard to imagine that he’d what little stuff he had tonight by sitting for so long. If he gets through the 5th unscathed, we’ll be in decent enough shape.
Not a good combo: Didn’t have great command to begin with + the long rest
Pull him now. Losing this game would be disastrous.
I’ll give him the first walk for the long lay of, but you can’t walk two in a row. Unacceptable. The first pitch to the first hitter should have been thrown down the middle. Let your defense work for you.
So far, Ortiz has been a scrub this game. Let’s keep it that way the entire series.
This is unreal. Girardi needs to go out there and settle him down. Make them hit the ball!!!
let Joba get two more outs and turn it over to the bullpen, he just doesn’t have it tonight but at least has battled.
This could be a serious football score when all is said and done. Joba has to be removed before more damage is done.
Joba has to buckle down here and not put them back in the game.
Joba needs to man up and get it done.. no more excuses..
we not melancon ???????
Come on Joba deserves that W he’s laboring through this game, Lets go Yankees!!
he just doesn’t have it tonight.
“Is RDM here?”
No. He said he was going to the game if I recall.
Posada’s last triple was 2008. He got one in 2008 and one in 2007.
He is due for his one in 2009!!
come on joba get 2 more

“Joba just sat for something like 35 minutes…He’ll get it back.”
Now if you can figure that out, and I can figure that out, why is it that other intelligent Yankee fans decide instead to start getting down on Joba?
That’s rhetorical. It’s more the norm here than the exception.
How has Ortiz done against Joba tonight?
Ah, decline. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Seriously. I’ve never thought Ortiz was the great “Poster Child” for baseball that he has always been made out to be.
Joba just doesn’t have it tonight, even before the long layoff. Don’t let him back out for the 6th, the Yankees need this game.
Come on Joba just get through the 5th! He sat for a looongg time.
Get out of this Jobber. You can do it
I was not aware that Pete ever banned E.R. Is that even true?
But if he’s getting people to respond to him — and he is — then he’s effectively trolling.
Jackson is 1-3 with a runs scored, 1 RBI and a stolen base.
Russ Ortiz: 6 innings, 3 hits. 0 runs, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts
Garrison Lassiter has his first homer for Charleston.
Adam Warren through 4.2 innings 7 hits 1 run, 0 walks, 4 strikeouts for Staten Island.
For Tampa, Laird is 1-3 with an RBI and a steal, Luis Nunez is 2-3 with a triple, double, ru scored and RBI
DJ Mitchell: 6 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 8 strikeouts
Just go after them Joba.
Trust the D. Cmon baby.
bye joba. thanks.
First pitch strike to Lowell, pretty please?
joba don’t walk in a run
RDM was here and made some ridiculous comment earlier – either that or it was an RDM imposter.
Ouch. Bases loaded on walks.
Can Ortiz bat again? Please?
Joba c’mon dude…relax

His youth is showing. A veteran pitcher doesn’t have this problem.
——————————————-
Jim Kaat actually said the same thing happened to him more than once in his career. His youth isn’t helping, though.
eeeek. Joba is on thin ice here
Joba this is unacceptable. You can’t give them hope. He was supposed to go out there and throw up a zero, get the other pitcher back out.
double play for me one time
Joba’s problem is that he isn’t getting his breaking pitches over and he keeps on trying. But it is not working.
damn dis um gotta call dat
C’mon Joba, DP and you’re out of trouble.
GI Joe pull his you know what now man… the only thing that could happen here is bad.
there’s just something about jd drew that really annoys me. and mike lowell
Grand slam for Lowell.
Gotta get him out of the game. Horrible job by Jiba.
Gotta be better than that.
This is exactly what Boston didn’t want. Their pen has thrown 14 innings over the last 3 games and some of those took a ton of pitches to labor through.
Ramirez for example, didn’t throw yesterday, but threw 69 pitches in the previous 2 games.
Okajima and Delcarmen have both pitched the last 2 days.
If we can keep turning the screw this could kill their pen for the series.
Here’s hoping we can get to Beckett tomorrow and limit him to 6 innings.
On a slightly more concerning note it appears that Joba is trying to see if he can get another no decision by walking every batter.
Joba is a joke. After getting a 6 run lead. I would of taken him out after the 2nd walk.
Joba needs to turn into a man and finish clean, he’s got to learn this. I don’t want to hear any of this ‘my mechanics were great bull’ after the game.
Hey Joba, put on your titanium necklace and throw a freaking strike!!!
Ack, also not getting help from the umpire…
Now he can’t throw a strike!
This is unreal.
dbl play with lowell
“he just doesn’t have it tonight”
Yeah and the 35 minute rest made it worst.

no more yanky my wanky the Donger need food!
that’s right joe, just stand there and watch joba throw ball after ball. i swear if we lose this game…1 swing and its 9-7
The Yankees & Red Sox set the record for longest 9 inning game on 8/18/06. It was 4 hours and 45 minutes
Are they trying to beat that tonight??? Do you think they could do it??
7 walks wow
Flirting with disaster. I can’t watch.
Wow. Just a nightmarish performance by Joba tonight.
It’s squarely on him of the team loses this game.
Can Joba end up with more balls than strikes?
Yikes.
Good point nic, Joba needs to man up and admit he was terrible today.
Joba has to come out. That is it. He doesn’t have it.
With Joba pitching so poorly, this game is clearly within reach of the Sox. Yanks should have replaced the young pitcher at the beginning of the 5th after he lost the zone in the 4th.
Now this game would be tough to lose.
You have to make a move here…
Joe no debating, he can’t throw strikes. Take him out.
7 walks! are you kidding me.. What a letdown tonight.
I think the fake SJ44 is back
Take him out, what the heck is Girardi waiting for? OMG.
“Billy Traber on Boston kind of reminds me of when the Yanks picked up Alan Embree mid season after Boston cut him.
I am still 100% convinced Embree was sent over to infiltrate the Yankee organization and back fire wherever he could”
——–
I know one of Embree’s friends.
He said Embree was so FURIOUS with the Sox when he got cut, he knew he was going to the Yanks.
He threw harder than he ever had before when he faced the Sox the first time.
I love hearing about Sox players who hate the org once they leave (though I’m sure Embree has cooled off a bit since then).
OMG PULL HIM!
C’mon, Joba, DP ground ball, fist pump, call it a day.
you can’t bring in robertson because he’s liable to walk 3 or 4 guys himself. joba needs to get out of this.
come on joba jus get outta dis
I seriously will flip if Joba pulls his usual postgame routine about how his stuff was fine and shows no accountability…..
This is nasty.
I mean come on this game is more valuable then Joba’s desire for an W at this point, damn.
Pull this gutless moron. Don’t let him get the win. Maybe next time he’ll get his act together.
Why do you swing there if youre Kotchman? Joba can’t throw first pitch strikes…
Girardi wants Joba to get this win. Come on Joba get out of the inning and earn yourself a win.
Girardi take him out!!!!! It is going to be 9-8 in a minute..

Can you post english or not post at all???
Staying too long with him and that’s a horrible job by Girardi and a horrible job by Joba.
He has come up short in this game. Not a good outing for Jobber.
This is terrible
“Joba this is unacceptable. You can’t give them hope. He was supposed to go out there and throw up a zero, get the other pitcher back out.”
jen – he sat 35 minutes. Pitchers get stiff. He wouldn’t be the fist.
Personally I hope Girardi leaves him out here and lets him get the other two outs and the win. I don’t care how many runs he gives up.
This is on Joe now.
Trying to leave him in for the win and it may cost them.
This has to be Joba’s last batter if he doesn’t get Kotchman.
maybe I should stick to my initial prediction of a Yanks walk-off win??
cmon Joba!!!
I wonder if a bad looking ’90s style goatee is a requirement to play for the Sox.
Dammit Joba. Why are you shaking off your catcher. He is starting this nonsense again!
9-3 lead and the tying run now on deck. Only the Yankees could do that.
Someone needs to wack Mike lowell. Seriously.
Heh…Nick Green sighting.
Joba is making smoke ALOT of ciggs tonight…
Praying to the gods of GIDP…
Kotchman, who isn’t a power hitter, looks like he’s trying to hit one out.
phew…
He is going WAY too long with him. Girardi never knows when to take a pitcher out it is unreal. He just doesnt have the feel to be a manager.
gudd jus one mo jobaaaaaaaa
lets go baby!!! 1 more out!?!?
lost his feel sitting on the bench…he’ll get it back.
Trisha…pitchers get stiff yeah but Joba never had it today. He’s been throwing balls all day. Kotchman may have just saved his game by swinging at balls. Now we need a first pitch strike here…
nice breaking ball, some help from kotchman, 1 more
“Pull this gutless moron. Don’t let him get the win. Maybe next time he’ll get his act together.”
I absolutely cannot believe you even posted this. Who’s the moron?!?
1 more out Joba. You can do this.
trisha
I conceded that i’d give him the first walk, but you can’t walk the bases loaded. Let your defense work for you.
“Someone needs to wack Mike lowell. Seriously.”
———
Lowell is one of the few Sox I like. He’s actually a nice guy.
but he does kill the Yanks too often.
got … to … get…. one … more…. out……
If Joba says anything about letting that big Yankee inning affect him, Pete you gotta call him out on it. I’m tired of his excuses for being stupid.
One more. Joba. One more.
One more out please.
Nick Green, Yankee Killer.
nick green – let’s hope he gets out of this
That’s it, it’s Nick Green for Ruth’s sake – go after him!
joba better not fist pump if he strikes green out
Gotta stand and cheer
There you go, Joba. Empty the tank.
Nick Green… aka “Mr Clutch”
not this time
Alright, Nick green, tell them that all that time spent with us wasn’t wasted (and just hit an out)
Jesus how did he get out of that.
YESS!!!! LETS GO JOBA LETS GO YANKEES!!
a scream i’ll take. but no fist pump. whew
Folks always complaing young pitchers aren’t left in to work out of their own jams….here Girardi is doing just that…and Joba did.
I also noticed he never went into the tunnel. Don’t pitchers go down and take some to the mitt during long innings.
Thankfully it is a moot, he got out of it. That has to be his last inning.
Whew!
There we go Joba!
YES! I called it. My call: “Throw him a breaking ball. He’s looking for the fastball.”
Joba knows he pulled a Houdini
now take dat heat of joe fo leavin joba in dere… will u?
I don’t mind Lowell, JD certainly is annoying but his ridiculous contract makes me happy.
Pete when you see Joba later can you slap him for me please, tell him to listen to the catcher with all the rings and throw what he calls without all the strutting and drama and definitely without all the walks.
Wow, not pretty at all, but a great joba getting out of it……Boy, he had nothing tonight. I hope that’s it for him….
That right there is the Joba that will be great, he knew it was his last batter and he went for the jugular
that wasn’t a fist pump, but I’m not sure I want to say what he said.
Ok, as bad as Joba has been, he battled and got 2 K’s to end the inning. This will help him in the long run even though it scared the **** out of me lol
joba wiggles out of trouble.
the captain’s gonna get a hit and we gotta keep pressure on them
Exhale!
Can everyone who complained about Joba go away? He did NOT have it tonight. It happens, but he got out of his own jams.
WOOT WOOT!
Finally! Now we need like 5 more runs!
Joba is amazing.
His stuff is so good, that even when he stinks and gets into trouble, he can still get out of it.
I agree with Pete. When, not if, Joba gets his act a bit more consistent, the Yanks will have a real stud pitcher.
Damn he got lucky there. I thought they would send the 2nd runner with Damon in LF..
this is why the idea to skip joba and have him work on extra days rest is not a good one. he just had no command tonight. you can’t do that to a starting pitcher. they have to follow a routine.
Well that was mildly terrifying. My neighbors are surely wondering what I’m yelling about.
23 year old pitchers…they do this..its scary though
Ill take it…
Phil and MG,

Don’t ever talk AGAIN!
Could’ve been a lot worse. Let’s just hold it now, scoring some more runs wouldn’t hurt either
108 pitches – I think that’s it for Joba tonight. Melacon next?
Thank you Nick Green.
That’s it for Joba…laboring through 5 innings of 4 runs for a win
Girardi dodged a huge bullet there.
Bad job by Joba.
They mow need 12 outs from a short bullpen.
The offense can’t sit on 9 runs. They need more.

In fact, are there any players who don’t leave Boston angry?

Even with the two strikeouts in the 5th, that was an ugly, ugly inning an ugly game for Chamberlain. Fortunately for NYY, Smoltz was uglier.
I know he put himself in that jam but he got out of it relatively unscathed. Now, do we get to beat up on Billy Traber some more?
dare I say difference maker?
I hope that scared the Yankees into NOT letting up on the gas. They better not be giving up at bats thinking that this game is in the bag. I want at least another 5 runs.
RDM was in the last thread.
He is now officially on the list.
As always, I called it right. And I only say that to call attention to how pathetic the posts were calling for Joba’s head.
No SJ, Girardi didn’t leave him in too long.
No, other posters, he didn’t forget how to throw strikes.
Yes, xyz, Donnie, Maria, and any others who recognized that his sitting 35 minutes was a problem but he would be able to work his way out of it.
GOOD ON YOU JOBA.
OK- time to put another 8 spot up….
It’s possible Joba felt more presure with a 9-3 lead than he did down 3-2.
“If I blow this lead, it will be a disaster”
Robertson is up……..I wonder if we’ll see Melancon tonight. Either way, I’m going to have agita this entire game.
Just read Joba’s lips and he said the “F” word.. then I am not sure what he said next.. it was either “God, Damnit” or “God, Thank you”… either way.. pretty funny.
To me this 5 inning game was tougher than a 7-8 an inning. It was a tough 5 innings. I think that is something that should be looked at when you figure innings.

Time for a Derek HR!
Poor it on, Yankees. Do NOT let Traber go a few innings.
“Trisha…pitchers get stiff yeah but Joba never had it today. He’s been throwing balls all day.”
You’re correct, but he was actually CLOSE in the first 4 innings. The first 8 pitches in the 5th weren’t even remotely near the plate. Joba’s COMPLETE lack of command that inning was NOT the pitcher we’d seen for the first four. He was much more wild, which is likely due to sitting for so long. It made a very “meh” performance go to a “Geez, Joba, what are you doing” performance very quickly.
“dare I say difference maker?”
Please do say it. Because you would certainly be right.
Joba’s line (6 hits, 7 walks) could have led to 8-9 runs.
I guess I’m thankful it was just 4.
Yanks need to tack on more runs. This game is far from over. Especially with Ace and Hughes not available. Maybe Ace for one inning.
No Joba in the 6th, please!
Smoltz’s e.r.a. is now higher than Sergio Mitre’s.
I’d feel bad for him if he wasn’t pitching for the Red Sox.
where has all the momentum gone?…This crowd is a joke make some noise

I don’t want to accuse you of being either uninformed, unintelligent, or a troll. But we ARE beating this team easily and Jason Nay isn’t playing because he’s hurt.
Feelin good tonight! who else is feelin’ good!
Too much running for Matsui knees tonight. That’s not good.
alex was all smiles on that one
Jete is the only yankee without a hit. He saving it for a walk-off later in the series
In the overall scheme of things, I’ll give up 1 run in to them in the top of the inning, if we can get at 2 back in the bottom!
Part of the reason for the 0-8 is Francona severely outmanging Girardi. Case in point today.
POW! Nice base running by A-Rod
nice hitting by Matsui, I wish Molina was in the game, Posada is so bad
LOL
keep the runs coming
can he get a triple..lol
posoda get dat triple
hip hop jorge lets go
Rob Thomson should get an award of some sort.
Knowing Youk in LF, and the famous Nick Green getting the relay throw. Hand it to Thomson.
If Posada gets the cycle I will run around this blog naked
Everyone except Jeets has a hit. Jeets Arod and Tex are still missing their RBIs
Two huge runs and a great send of Arod by Thompson.
Traber at 33 pitches…
they’ll prob just run his arm into the ground and then DFA him.
I cannot believe I am visiting family and not watching tihs game!!!! Same hting happened during the Massacare II…at least they are winning
look at those cuts… he’s going for the cycle…
“Too much running for Matsui knees tonight. That’s not good.”
Yeah, I doubt he plays tomorrow.
revenue sharing sure has weakened the red sox and yankees around the edges.

It’s called battling. When you’re a talented pitcher, and you take the mound without your best stuff, you find a way to minimize the damage, and walk away with a win. AJ’s done it a couple times this year. We just watched Joba do it. The kid’s got a bright future ahead of him.
Keep the offense coming!
Looking at the boxscore and Jeter is the only one without a hit? I hope he gets one, want everyone to join the party.
i guess joba is done

Thank God for Thompson… a billion times better than Meachum last year.
Any chance we could convince Francona to start Billy Traber one of the next three games?
Any chance we could convince Francona to start Billy Traber one of the next three games?
For Jorge to get a triple it has to be in the gap and badly misplayed ball or some kind of crazy bounce off the wall.
Jorge, that is UNACCEPTABLE!!!

does anybody think that joba looks physically ill tonight…like has a fever or is sick?
I feel bad for Smoltz. He was a great pitcher back in the day and is probably a HOF. To go down like this must be miserable for him.
I didn’t call for Po’s benching.
“Jed Lowrie irritated his left forearm on a swing Thursday night and had to be pulled from the game.”

Mark Melancon can earn some points with a clean inning.
8 run lead, throw strikes and have a clean inning.

Good job by Joba getting out of a tough jam, but also give credit to Girardi for giving him a chance to get out of it, and for Jorge being there to help him get through it.
This is experience you need going down the stretch.
I love how everybody went ballistic when the Jobber got into trouble, it was funny.
Yanks come back with two runs of their own, all is right with the world!
Its 11-4 Yankees.
Will every poster who called this game over PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post that now so I can put your name on the “Ant-Cheer” List!
Thank You.
And as always, I will continue to post the list and update it.
I wonder if D-Rob can go two.
I’m loving this game!
Hopefully they save some hits for the next couple of games!
sox shud DFA smoltz and we sign fo da bullpen
The great thing is that the Sox still need to get 9 more outs.
Traber is already at 35 pitches.
I’d like to see the Yankees work more counts and burn a few more guys out of their pen.
They can really get the upper hand in this series if they make Boston use 2 more pitchers.
Let’s go Robertson!
“If Posada gets the cycle I will run around this blog naked”
not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing
as bad as Joba was in the 5th, he pitched his way out with only 1 run and the Yankees tacked on 2, that’s most likely the game, Traber is liable to pitch 3 more innings, their bullpen is shot right now.
Francona is dumb.
You have your ace Beckett going tomorrow, who always pitches well against NYY and goes deep into games.
You don’t need your pen tomorrow. Why not use it today to try and keep us off the board while the Sox chip away at our awful pen?
If Buchholz or Penny or someone was going tomorrow, I can understand, but this game is still winnable for Boston today, they should be using their good arms.
People were posting that the game was over after 3 innings??
Strikes please
what happened to melancon?
Robertson and not Melancon. Strikes please David.
Smoltz ERA is now 8.32. Very Wang-like.
Pete’s 9:27 update says it all for Joba.
The thing is, he did better than what the Red Sox put out there. Like Phil Simms used to say, just win the damn game.
“Will every poster who called this game over PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post that now so I can put your name on the “Ant-Cheer” List!”
Ant-Cheer!
Does that mean we all party together in a series of inter-connected tunnels, all while lifting things 100 times our body weight?
Now, will Girardi let Melancon get some work in this game?
Traber has an over 20. era,he’s out to mop up innings.
my god what a sloppy game this is.
Great time out by Pete tonight, as civilization has returned to The LoHud….That and the Yanks taking the lead hepled restore sanity here…..
“Francona is dumb.

because they’ve really been overworked the past couple games.
even if they did get the day off tomorrow, which isn’t the given that you’re making it out to be, you dont usually want ot throw guys 3 days in a row.
That was a tough pitch for Jorge to get. Hit off the plate, and fast runner.

Its an inside joke.
During the 1996 world series after game 2, the Yanks were down 0-2 and no one thought they had any prayer. I was in CVS or something and a male and female employee were talking about the Yankees. The guy said the Yanks will still win. The girl said, “no way”. She then said, “If the Yankees win, I will run aroudn this store naked”
To this day I wonder if he made her do it
I love Jorge but he must get down on his knees to block the baseball
y coke y not bruney or melancon?
Posada has to block that pitch. Did somebody say he sucked tonight?
Very sloppy
running to 1st on a strikeout is the lamest play in baseball. never happens in the yanks favor either.
it sounds like they don’t play the PC richard whistle on those strikeouts.
Well maybe now we get a look at Melancon, huh Joe?
maybe Swish can pitch an inning.
“Part of the reason for the 0-8 is Francona severely outmanging Girardi. Case in point today.”
What the hell are you talking about?
Boston wants this game to end so bad but the Yanks’ pitchers will not allow it.
yeah or even robertson!
Wild Pitch? What a joke.
That was as much a passed ball as you would ever see. it was right in front of him, he didn’t block it, and then he dropped the ball when he picked it up.
If anything, give Posada an ERROR on dropping the ball on the bare handed pick up.
throw a strike !!
this bullpen is going to make us men all look like the Sox
BALD!!
Does Joba just not trust his stuff? Seriously, I don’t understand.
If we take 3 of 4, my week will be made.
COME ON YANKS!!!!!
No walks! Wow Girardi needs to just tell them throw strikes.
keep opening the door…this is really ugly
Not ANOTHER dropped third strike!!!!
7 in the last month. Completely unacceptable and now he can’t throw strikes.
Wonderful.
Get him out and go to Melancon.
Did everybody sleep on their pitching arms or something?
sloppy, sloppy, sloppy…..this goes on the resume of Eiland too.
Does anyone get the feeling this won’t end 11-4?
Maybe like 20-8?
Today’s game brought to you be Johnny Walker.
Yankees need to stop scoring runs, our pitchers can’t handle success.
I hate Robertson in these spots. He either finds the plate or doesn’t. It is 50-50 with him…Something is going on with Posada…Can he really be this bad as a catcher.
My gosh, it’s only the 6th inning
How many walks are going to be given up tonight buy the Yankee pitching? Jeeze.
this is the ugliest game of all time
What a weird night for Jorge… three hits, three-run HR, idiotic bareunning and turns an out into a baserunner to start the 6th. Why is Melancon not in there?
They are well on their way to walking ten and turning a joke into a competitive game. Is an easy win over Boston just flat out impossible this year?
Does everyone realize Mark Reynolds is on pace for 52 HR?
SJ44
August 6th, 2009 at 9:40 pm
Not ANOTHER dropped third strike!!!!
7 in the last month. Completely unacceptable and now he can’t throw strikes.
Wonderful.
Get him out and go to Melancon.
*****
IMPOSTER! IMPOSTER!! IMPOSTER!!!!
(The real SJ44 may be tied and gagged in a closet somewhere)
fake sj?
Ok is there really a need to have Coke warming with a 7 run lead?
At least give Robertson a chance to let up a run or something.
I’m sorry… just 50 HR
really bad glove work by posada on that strike three in the dirt. lazy glove. he needed to flip the mitt and drop to his knees.
for all that posada does, he has some really bad habits. people get on cano’s case, but posada needs a catching coach on his butt all the time. he can be good , but he needs to be pushed.
Pena needs to beat on Posada some more and get him to drop on those breaking pitches.
Will Girardi be afraid to pitch Melancon in this game?
Just throw strikes and pound the zone is the name of the game until the last out.
Eddie Murray was a baaaad man.
Hello it hit the plate!
At least Robertson is missing low. Better to miss low, than miss high…I guess.
If Boston could get hits consistently in this game, the walks would be a disaster. But, so far, the Yankees have managed to get away with them for the most part.
But, keep walking people and eventually you’ll get bit.
DP right here!
Matt: is this the right time to pull Posada? Teach him that lesson? Or would you bench him tomorrow night?
4th time since he’s returned from injury that Posada has allowed a strikeout victim to reach first base on a pass ball.
Is this a record for one season??
Girardi needs to pass the ball to Melancon and Bruney, they might not be trustable on his list, but this is their chance we got a lead lets see if they can throw more strikes then robertson
Joba and David Robertson enjoyed their pre-AllStar break performances in Anaheim so much they have decided to repeat them tonight!
strike robertson… strike…
Robertson needs to work on throwing a little quicker. He takes way too long between pitches.
WWWHHHHHHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?????????????
time to move on. Bring in melancon
This is just sad
is Eiland the Sox pitching coach also?
It’s just one of the those games, tomorrow will likely be 1-0 or 2-1 after all the runs tonight.
The Yankees do need to get someone in the game who throws strikes, they haven’t figured out that this umpire doesn’t call low strikes and they keep throwing 1st pitches there.
Joe should go out there and smack David in the back of the head. Tell him he better get outs or you’ll be back in Scranton.
Posada has really been having trouble getting low pitches. Maybe his reaction time is lowing down.
Why is Victor Martinez getting the Barry Bonds treatment tonight, And GI Joe why didn’t you go to Melancon?
wow.
LOL. poor VM.
This is going to be a real challenge to get 12 outs out of the pen tonight.
The walks are piling up and that’s how you put the sox back in the game.
Awful.
STRUCK HIM OUT SWINGING!
Robertson and his control can’t be trusted…
Good job D-rob.
I’m not worried about Robertson, defense should sit down, he either walks you or strikes you out.
There’s Vmarts first “official” at bat this series… a whiff! Woo!
Red Bull ! Get your Red Bull right here !
This game has 4 hours written all over it.
I thought I would get home and see highlights…it’s only the 6th ?
wow, got Martinez on a high strike.
phew
I wonder if the Yanks and Sox decided they need to spend as much time playing this game as ESPN spent hyping it.
Good things happen when you throw strikes, go figure
Martinez has an adbat now
I would have brought in Melancon. Simply because Robertson pitched last night.
And Melancon hasn’t pitched in forever.
bust youk in on that atrocious beard
Robertson’s K #s this yr are sick:
30.1 INN
45 Ks
LIST OF PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CHEER IF THE YANKEES WIN:
Chickie
JZ
Jeremy
AL FROM BK (eh tu)
BRYAN
YKW
RDM
UKE-1st Place Yankees
Triple Short of Cycle
I will continue adding names as the game progresses.
the funny thing is that Robertson is firing the ball tonight, this is the hardest I’ve ever seen him throw.
Every time I see Youkilis standing/bouncing in the batters box, I want to puke.
Well, where did THAT miss?
how hard is robertson throwing?
Come on, let’s get to big Mami!
List of people who should shut their pie holes… Dr. Cox.
If the Yanks have to use Hughes or Mo this game, even if we win, it’s a small victory for the Sox.
These long innings kill the defense as well. They get tired standing out there so long.
hell of a play
This kid is firing and challenging the big hitters, he has balls. He’s shown more than Joba did.
Randy,
hard to understand why he has so much trouble with his glove setup. That’s what is causing the problem.
G, 93mph
Dr. Cox, I don’t think you need to worry about YKW cheering when the Yankees win this game.
these umps are garbage per usual
Only the Yankees and Red Sox can play a game like this.
we’re going to have to score 20 runs until i truly feel comfortable
Wow. That’s a blown call if there ever was one. That’s a fair ball, and a double play.
Good one Uke! Agreed.
Robertson is 94 with the FB.
“Robertson’s K #s this yr are sick:
30.1 INN
45 Ks”
His walks are sick too.
Robertson hit 94 on one of the pitches to Youk, he’s usually at 91-92.
he has balls alright… ball 1… ball 2… ball 3… ball 4…
Let’s see…one out wasted because Posada lost the strikout ball in the dirt, then another two lost because the umpire didn’t recognize that Posada fielded the ball in front of the plate.
It’s your typical 6 out inning for the S*x!
Red Sox Umpires. Can anyone deny that these guys get preferential treatment?
That was as fair as they come.
This kid is firing and challenging the big hitters, he has balls. He’s shown more than Joba did.
=======================================================
Throwing strikes require a little bit more than having balls…
This ump is TERRIBLE!!! Definitely one of the worst of the season..
argh.
Who’s the home plate ump ? He blew that call.
SIT DOWN YOUK!!
Still no contact inning for the sux, lol
Thk U D-Rob.
Puke down looking! Yeah for small victories.
you guys may hate Youkilis, but he has to be the toughest out in baseball.
GO AWAY YOUK. You were out 5 minutes ago anyway.
Girardi leave him in!
here comes Coke!
And Youkilis makes the 3rd, 4th, and 5th outs of the inning!
Only one more to go, and their going to try and get it on Coke.
wow, good job dr!
Maybe he thinks Elles and Elfman are too easy.
Somewhat gutty performance from Robertson
Youkilis might be the toughest AB in baseball
he’s the Rasputin of MLB
I hate my9. The commercials are so loud!
Every time I see Youklis’s ugly mug I want to chop his head off Highlander style.
Come on Girardi.
Its a long 4 game series.
Do you have to use every bullpen arm tonight?
7 run lead, we need a lefty specialist to face the ghost of David Ortiz?
There goes Robertson’s shot at 4 strikeouts in one inning.
Ump has been tight both ways, he blew a call there, it happens, he’s also called strikes on check swings against the sox, so he’s helped and hurt us, all umpires blow calls, it’s reality
Robertson strikes out three in the inning – BUT – it’s not good enough for GI Joe. Bring in Phil “The Pointer” Coke.
the Yankees should be out of the inning. The umps this year have been awful.
Don’t hang a slider Coke. A scoreless inning would be nice for a change.
“List of people who should shut their pie holes… Dr. Cox.”
its nothing personal. you just are not allowed to cheer if they win for this comment:
“Uke – 1’st Place Yankees
August 6th, 2009 at 8:00 pm
This game is over.”
Among others…
I am trying to prove a point here.
Just need 1 more out
Really Joe use Coke in this game? Playing the match up game in a 11-4 game. NICE!
I repeat will Joe be afraid to use Melancon in this game?
Ump is Cousins.
The great Derryl Cousins behind home plate…
Youk is also Jewish, that should get him some props in New York-if he played for the Yankees he’d be a hero.
MG August 6th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
you guys may hate Youkilis, but he has to be the toughest out in baseball.
—–
especially when the umpire makes you get 3 outs in his at-bats.
all in all, not a bad outing by D-Ro, only real fault on him is walking the troll
you guys may hate Youkilis, but he has to be the toughest out in baseball.
————————————————-
I hate him precisely because of that. That b@st@rd.
Caught Yuk looking for a curve ball. Great job by Robertson IMO. He throws very hard and has a great curve. He is just starting to gain confidence and could be a great reliever for us for years to come.
I would have left him in and saved Coke for later in the game if needed against a lefty.
Joba really needs to learn how to act sometimes. Giving up 4ER and 7 walks in 5IP is horrible. Pumping your chest and your fists when you pitched a bad game doesn’t look good. Joba could have done the Yanks a favor by pitching even half way decent so we wouldn’t have to blow our bullpen out w/a 7 run lead..
So it’s either Papi wakes up vs Cokey, or he walks him or gets an out.
MG August 6th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
“you guys may hate Youkilis, but he has to be the toughest out in baseball.”
You’re right, he is a tough out. He also tends to get a bigger strike zone than most, and whines like the baby he is when he doesn’t get it.
I’m surprised that he didn’t whine on that pitch. I think he would have, had it not been so far over the plate. It wasn’t done the middle, but it wasn’t a “just caught the corner” either.
Robertson was throwing gas. He should have been out of this inning.
Rob B August 6th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
And Youkilis makes the 3rd, 4th, and 5th outs of the inning!
Only one more to go, and their going to try and get it on Coke.
**********
That is a good one.
i have seen Coke get beat by LH’ers so many times this year.
I cheer whenever I want, and I never said in which direction it was over, I could have meant it’s over the yankees have it in the bag.
Nice K by Robertson. His reward, he’s done for the night. Gotta make sure everyone pitches tonight to justify the stupidity of carrying 13 pitchers. You can’t let Robertson face Papi with a seven run lead?
Jorge has always been a poor catcher in terms of fundamentals. Not only does he backhand most balls in the dirt, he also field throws home BEHIND the plate, giving the runner at least another 3-5 feet toget in.
Coke better get Papi
Girardi is going to manage this game like it’s the 7th game of the World Series. Wouldn’t shock me to see Mariano in this game.
They really HAVE to win this game now. If the Roid Sox were to come back, the backlash wouldn’t unbearable and it would wreak havoc on the rest of this series if not season.
“Ump is Cousins.”
thank you OPPC pal.
I love you Big Papi!
Daryll “Strawberry” Cousins hittin the crack pipe in between innings.
he did
Did I just hear a steroid chant???
As an aside, but certainly not the first time I’ve mentioned it, I love Coke.
It’s a good thing for us that Big Phoney sucks.
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…………….so who pitches 7-8-9? Clagget? why waste aceves and coke?
The trouble with watching the radar gun readings is you NEVER know where they are being measured. It should only be used as a comparison for pitch to pitch and difference between pitch type speeds.
1 pitch. Good job Cokie!
Erica – always OPPC August 6th, 2009 at 9:50 pm
I hate my9. The commercials are so loud!

Same here! I have some locals that have the audio completely distorted and it always crackles over my speakers. It’s horrible!
What’s up with some people’s strange obsession with Melancon???
So you beat an over the hill pitcher. You were due. That makes it 1-8 against the sox. YIPPEE..YIPPEE..YIPPEE..YIPPEE..
How is it possible that we are up 7 runs in the 6th inning and I still can’t breathe?
Now that’s how a lefty specialist does it,thank you Phil!
Great job Coke.
Miggs,
one swing into the jetstream, it’s a new game.
Going to Coke was the right move.
Wow, Big Papi sure misses Mr. Dreadlocks in a big way!
More runs please! It’s never enough against the Sox, let’s send them a message.
MLB Net did not have a replay on the foul at the plate. did someone else have a definitive view? Cousins has a small strike zone, but I think he’s been consistent. Nothing off the plate for either pitcher.
I would guess that Melancon pitches the 7th and 8th, there reaches a point in the game where you have to respect your 7 run lead and relax just a little.
let Coke get his confidence back by getting David Ortiz’ corpse out. nice move by Joe
If the Yankees get a 12 run lead, we just might see Claggett…. on a short leash of course.
I love you Big Papi!
===============================
Guys, that is big Mami for you.
This series matters alot Joe, It’s not about that we lost 8 games in the past.
It’s august, were in the LEAD in the American League East and believe it or not this series is epic.

NO CHEER FOR YOU! next.
another couple of runs off the underbelly of Red Sox pitching and it might just be safe to bring Bruney into this game
I’m not sure if Francona has Traber’s best interests at heart tonight.

MLB Net did not have a replay on the foul at the plate. did someone else have a definitive view?

YES gave an overhead. It was fair and going more fair.
Holy Cannoli!
I love my DVR. Just caught up, what a game.
MLB Net did not have a replay on the foul at the plate. did someone else have a definitive view? Cousins has a small strike zone, but I think he’s been consistent. Nothing off the plate for either pitcher.
====================================================
YES has the replay.
Doesn’t it kind of suck that we are going to have to burn out our entire pen in a game that is a blowout?
I love this team…but this game is brutal.
“Joba really needs to learn how to act sometimes. Giving up 4ER and 7 walks in 5IP is horrible. Pumping your chest and your fists when you pitched a bad game doesn’t look good.”
Look at his face, and read his lips. He was not pounding his chest in celebration. He was frustrated that he HAD to pitch out of trouble. He was not happy with himself.
That over the hill pitcher was an RS pitcher, that makes it
S W E E T !
Speaking of joba’s innings limit – how is this game any different than a 7 ip 100 pitch game?more innings same pitches. That’s why I think the yanks are charting joba’s pitches and not innings.
By the way I’m in the stadium and they just played a song from the breakfast club over the “fan cam” montage. Nice tribute to John Hughes
86w183 August 6th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
“MLB Net did not have a replay on the foul at the plate. did someone else have a definitive view?”
From what I saw, the ball very clearly bounced forward, Posada fielded in front of the plate, and threw to third. It looked to be about half a foot in front.
*CHEERS FOR THE YANKEES* Please delete that, Dr. Cox. Oh, that’s right, you can’t… because you’re nobody
MG,
I bet Coke goes out to start the 7th though. They have Drew and Martinez (switch)
I do not want to see Mo tonight.
Meanwhile over/under for how many Diet Coke’s Francessa sipped tonight.
Melancon is getting some of the back-up QB syndrome love from the blog.
What? Billy Traber still? Francona has hanged his glove.

hahahahhahaha
Hairston’s in… Defensive replacement maybe?
Why can’t a NY-BOS game last 3 hours or less?
For those that continue to ind things to complain about, Robertson threw a lot of pitches last night and another 25 tonight. They have three more games. As far as the wild pitch/strikeout, that ball hit the plate. Find something worthwhile to complain about. Tonight only Posada’s non=slide and Chamberlain’s pitching is worth complaining about.
or Lil Papi now I guess
We just got Chad Godan!
Traded for Chad Gaudan, lol, however you spell his last name
Dr. Cox, you’re probably right, then maybe Melancon mops up the rest of the game. I’ve never seen so many situational switches in games with big leads, it’s just a sign of how much more offense there is than in the past.
“Melancon is getting some of the back-up QB syndrome love from the blog.”
He’s good.
Gaudin really?
Yanks 86

Why can’t a NY-BOS game last 3 hours or less?
========================
Because then it’d be a Marlins/Nationals game.
The Youk ball was fair. Fortunately, no damage.
Yanks got Chad Gaudin
Why would they make that move? Maybe Scranton needs a starter.
Gaudin I mean lol
Yankees got Gaudin from SD – just announced on radio
“That makes it 1-8 against the sox. Yipee”
It’s not about 1-8, it’s all about the standings.
Yanks Aquire Chad Gaudin
GreenBeret7, MY9 showed a over head replay in which anyone could clearly see it made no contact with homeplate.
that ARod
“so unclutch…. waits til the Yanks are up big to get his first hit!!!”
Wow!…Arod got intentionally walked and then next time up, he sigled. Stop bagging the guy. For some people, he can’t do anything right.
Chad Gaudin?
An era of over 5 pitching in Petco park?
Hopefully he goes to scranton and not NY.
Wonder who the PTBNL is?
Joe B: You can troll better than that. Put your heart into it.
Plus, there is a lot of baseball left. But if I were a Sox fan, I’d be worried. Penny, and Smoltz have been Mitre-esque. Buchholz to this point has gone back and forth from mediocre to dreadful. That’s 3/5th of your rotation.
And if this score holds up, you’re 3.5 back. Plus the Rays and the Rangers are charging fast.
I’d much rather be 1 and 8 and be in our position than be in yours.
World Series here we come. Chad Gaudin ftw
Yankees acquire Chad Gaudin for a PTBNL.
Per Suzyn Waldman.
we got chad guadan better then mitre
I don’t think any of us want to see the Yankees burn out the pen in this game. But a few points:
1) If the Yankees win this game, they get their first win against the S*x this year and a monkey off their back. That goes a long way for bolstering confidence.
2) It guarantees that they will finish the series in first place.
3) They have a 7 run lead. Anybody remember that 6 run lead they had in a game earlier this year? Exactly.
Just reportedo on YES. Chad Gaudin obtained from the Padres.
Melky by far has been the most consistent and improved player this year.
Gaudin is 4-10 with a 5.13 ERA in Petco Park
And he had a 6.26 ERA with the Cubs before getting released.
Great move by Cashman!!!
So the Yanks have acquired Chad Gaudin from the Padres for a PTBNL. Wonder if he’s related to Claude?
Going to coke there was the right move. Coke has done very well against him, IIRC.
And the way this crazy game has gone – another cheap fly ball jerked to right field makes it a four run game again.
They need to just get this game over with however is necessary.
This is just a game that a team and a manager has to slog through.
captain needs a hit
Upgrade on Mitri
chad gaudin…. probably better than mitre?
Gaudin was solid when he pitched for the A’s. Worth a shot.
GreenBeret7, the plate is in fair territory.
NO CHEER FOR YOU! next.
===============
Cheer Nazi … Cheer Nazi …
Francona is smart. He’s saving his bullpen. He’s knows this is a 4 game series and it’s better to just take this loss without over-working the bullpen. Girardi has already used 2 relievers and will probably use at least two more in a blow-out win. You usually don’t like to use 5 pitchers in a game you were up by at least 5 from the 4th inning on.
“For those that continue to ind things to complain about, Robertson threw a lot of pitches last night and another 25 tonight. They have three more games. As far as the wild pitch/strikeout, that ball hit the plate. Find something worthwhile to complain about. Tonight only Posada’s non=slide and Chamberlain’s pitching is worth complaining about.”
Dont worry, GB7 I have a whole list of people who need something to complain about.
Its funny, though. As soon as they start winning, the comments decrease tremendously.
People like Al from BK and UKE-1st Place Yankees have no faith in this team, arent real fan and just need something to complain about.
I like this move, Gaudin has eaten innings before and pitched in the AL. He had a 199 inning season in 2007 and was pitching to a mid 3’s ERA before he got traded to the Cubs in the Harden deal last year.
Doesn’t blow you away but a solid 5th who gives you a chance to win and some innings.
Tacking on
Jeter with a hit, okay now everyone has joined the party.
Jeter didnt wanna be left out of the hit/rbi party.
I don’t care that he just got thrown out either.
but I’m sure I misread what you wrote and you knew that already.
Gaudin 105 k’s in 105 innings, but 5 era in San Diego, well worth a shot.
Girardi is calling the bullpen saying the next pitcher to mess up goes to San Diego as the PTBNL.
Gaudin’s last 8 starts, he has only allowed over 3 runs twice. He has gotten rocked his past 2 outings though.
3.1 innings 6 earned runs yesterday
1.2 innings 3 earned runs (7 runs total)
I know they are trying to save a tired pen and that they don’t really care about Traber but at some point you have to say ‘we are putting this guy’s arm at risk here – time to pull him out’.
I just checked Gaudin’s game log, he’s pitched some good games this year, including an 8 inning 1 hit shutout of Texas in an interleague game. He’s probably going to get a shot at the #5 spot in the rotation, particularly with a series coming up against the Rangers.
Jeter didn’t want to miss out on the hitting parade. It’s okay he got thrown out it looked pretty close anyway.
Can we please see Melancon next inning.
there is nothing funnier than watching the squealing pig chase after balls in left
maybe Albaladejo is the PTBNL
Now Dr.Cox is a expert on people whom he’s never met based on one post, is it just me or does each comment he makes seem to be stupider and stupider?
Wait? Gaudin had a 5 ERA in Petco?
Even Mitre has to be better than that…
good cheap move for Chad Gaudin.. still young on a real bad team….should be ok
Nice trade for the Yankees. Gaudin’s numbers this year are a little bit misleading, since he’s playing on a bad Pardes team.
I was hoping for a Matsui homer tonight just to find out if the Anniversary of Hiroshima but mangle Sterling’s call again.
Nice hit, bad baserunning by Jeter.
They aren’t going to get a Cy Young winner on the waiver wire.
You look for a guy with a good arm and hope he can help you in a few spots.
With the acquisition of Gaudin, it means the end of the Sergio Mitre Error.
Girardi HAS to save his pen tonight.
Save Coke, don’t use Aceves, keep Mo and Hughes out of this game.
Give Melancon, Clagget, etc a chance to get outs here. If he goes to Aceves or Coke any more, he really screwed up here.
Joba with his best Olli Perez impression tonight.
Ok its an 8 run lead.
If anyone besides Claggett or Melancon pitches for the rest of the game Girardi has problems.
Just want to mention that the Nats won once again. It’s absolutely tremendous to see them winning games.
Gaudin?
Impressionist right?
Makes up for losing Tomko artistically speaking.
“Bring in Phil “The Pointer” Coke.”
He didn’t disappoint with the out or the point.
Why leave Coke in?
Someone tell me why!
Which game will end first? Mets vs Sand Diego (in SD) or Yankees vs Red Sox?
Gaudin’s last game:
http://sandiego.padres.mlb.com.....mp;c_id=sd
Gaudin has 8 good starts out of 20, when he is good he is very good, when he is bad he sucks.
Mitre just sucks all the time so Gaudin would be a big upgrade, IMO.

Hey Gb, it’s not about complaining it’s just calling it as it is. Jorge reached with a backhand for a 2 strike curve that he had to know was going to be down in th dirt. He should have squared up and dropped to block it as it didn’t hit the plate.
Thats his second lazy move of the night it’s just that simple.
This board is nearly as bad with trolls and complaints when they win as it is when they lose. What’s the next one? Rodriguez has only a double in his next at bat? Or, is it because he hits a home run with NYY leading 12-4?
In my mind, Dr. Cox looks like Gary Cooper in High Noon.
In real life, he probably looks nothing like that at all.
Maybe more like Cartman: “You must respect my AUTHORI-TAY!”
Smart move by Cashman picking up Gaudin.
With the release of Ransom, he knew the Yankees needed a new whipping boy.
Gaudin is a very good pitcher.
“is it just me or does each comment he makes seem to be **stupider and stupider**?”
lol.
Can anybody throw strikes tonight?
9 walks. Come on, that’s ridiculous.
Melancon! he is alive!
Cokey for the love of god…….
Bring in Mark now. Coke in a blowout is not what I want to see.
Another walk, tonight’s pitchers are forcing Girardi to use up the BP.
They are showing the press box on tv, where are you sitting Pete?
Too many walks tonight.
Had there been a double play ball tonight?
Gaudin’s ERA sucks but he has some decent peripherals, could be a good candidate to have a nice bounce back second half
Pete! Look up you were just on YES. Get your head out of those papers.
“Why leave Coke in?”
Girardi is probably afraid that if he brings in Claggett, he could stink up the joint and make it close. Then Girardi might be forced to use someone good like Aceves or Mo. Just a guess on my part.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE PITCHING: Why the eight losses? The Yankees have a 6.06 ERA and a 1.84 WHIP in the games against Boston this season. They’ve allowed 78 hits and a ridiculous 48 walks in 68.1 innings.
well, tonight’s walk total sure isn’t helping matters.
Why is Claggett here?
I mean, why is he here?
If you can’t use him up 12-4 when can you use him?
What abot Melancon?
Girardi…master of the 23 man roster.
“Gaudin is a very good pitcher.”
Trisha,
And young. If he pitches well, hopefully we can keep him for the back end for some time.
Don’t know much about this guy Gaudin. Anyone?
Just froze the press box shot, found Pete. Nice seat, smack in the middle, Pete!
If you don’t trust these guys up 8 runs, when will you trust them?
Using Coke here in this spot is pointless. He threw 7 pitches last night, and 2 to get Ortiz out. Girardi should have taken him out up 8 runs so he would be available for a few more games, but now if he ends up throwing 15-20 pitches more, he might not be available tomorrow.
Girardi is turning into Torre with the pen. He’s desperate, and it shows. I don’t know why you’re so desperate up 8 runs, but I’m not in his head.

Too many walks tonight.
Had there been a double play ball tonight?
***
yes, the Yanks turned one in the 2nd or 3rd. My memory doesn’t go back that far to be sure
Chad Gaudin is an upgrade from Mitre. For right now, that’s enough.
Thank god Girardi.
Melancon lives!
I just figured out that everyone moved here.
Melancon coming in for 4.
here are Gaudin’s stats, game by game, for 2009:
http://www.baseball-reference......;year=2009
do your thing, pointy mcpointyface!
Joe heard ya Matt
Ok, pipe down…here comes your man, Melancon.
How do you walk a guy winning by 8 runs
Gaudin > Igawa or Mitre.
Gaudin has at least been good in the AL at some point in his career. Nice move that can’t hurt.
Heeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Markeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!
Ladies and Gentleman, the one, the only, Marrrkkk Melancon!
Gaudin isn’t going to cost much….strictly a salary dump. Edwar Ramirez type player at most, unless they can expand it and send Igawa for something else useful along with some money. There’s about 9 mil left on this contract over the final two years.
Thanks for the info tj
“yes, the Yanks turned one in the 2nd or 3rd. My memory doesn’t go back that far to be sure”
Erica,
Its been a long, long game haha.
But you MUST remember when the Yankees lost in the 3rd inning, right?? (if I could do that rolling eyes icon, this is where I would out it lol.)
Chad Gaudin is all about quantity – find as many “meh” arms out there as possible and hope you piece 1 or 2 together for your #5
Maybe Ransom is the PTBNL
(Blog couldn’t be complete w/o at least 1 Ransom reference tonight)
Does Sergio Mitre at least get a nice set of parting gifts and a thanks for playing?
Seeing how Melancon never sees the mound, I’d go for 7 outs from him if I can. Close the BP door Mark.
Gaudin is well worth a shot. He has a good arm. Never lived up to his potential.
His numbers in san diego are very bad.
But if his numbers weren’t bad he wouldn’t be available.
His last couple of starts have been good.
Catching lightning in a bottle… step on up.
“Girardi…master of the 23 man roster.”
still better than Torre with his 20 man roster, as much as I love the man he still pulled his share of head scratchers.
Gaudin is cheap, has another year of control, and is not Sergio Mitre Kei Igawa or Bronson Arroyo. I trust the Cash Hairston Hinske have worked out well, why not Gaudin.
Strikes Mark. Attack the zone and don’t give them free passes.
Throw out the last couple of games or so and Gaudin looks really very good….
Actually Gaudin with run support will be formidible.
Zips rest of season projection for Gaudin via Fangraphs: 4.00 era, 45 innings, 44 strikeouts
I would take that grinning if it played out that way

Of course I remember! It was traumatic.
There was all out loss of hope!!! The season was over!!!
I used a whole box of tissues crying
Gaudin went 7 strong innings against Seattle with 11 K’s and the 1 hit shutout for 8 innings against Texas-the Yankees play both of them in August and who better to run out there than a guy who has already dominated them?
I really like this move, Gaudin has good stuff and a big upside. I don’t think he is expensive either.
Throw damn strikes!!!!!!!!
I pitch MO 4 games in a row if we could sweep.
Ten walks tonight… incredible.
“If I can”
10 walks, unbelievable.
I hope Gaudin gets to keep his beard
10 walks, whats the record for walks in a game? haha
Hope Gaudin has a new sharp razor!!!
The Yankees are lucky that the Red Sox only have scored 4 runs. The number of walks is embarrassing.
Melancon had to join the walking club.
So, the Sox have received ten walks, yet have scored only four runs.
Great offense.
Guadin has many strikeouts
I hope Ransom is the PTBNL.
I’d love for him to clear waivers
Jed “China Doll” Lowrie is hurt again? Shocker.
Maybe they should keep him in a bubble.
Carl-
I hope this game ends before midnight so the Yanks win on your birthday for you!
Gaudin is an Impressionist Halladay.
Or an Almost Halladay, if you will.
The walks tonight are out of control.
That’s just great. 8 run lead, #9 hitter, and he walks him.
That’s why Girardi has little trust in him.
10 walks and climbing.
Typo Meant to say I hope he isn’t the PTBNL
10 walks by Yankee pitching tonight
(Bangs head against laptop)

He could be like bubble boy!!!
It shouldn’t take that long to figure he swung on that ball.
I’m all for getting a player for practically free and trying anyone but Mitre.
But you can’t say Gaudin’s last starts have been good. He couldn’t last four innings against the Braves in Petco just a couple of days ago.
If your pitchers are going to walk 10+ batters in a game, it’s best when they only give up 6 hits and your team scores 12.
Ellsbury without a doubt waxes his eyebrows
just ot ome from work.
wt did i miss

my keybord is fried
need new one
Gaudin is also NOT SIDNEY PONSON. Another PLUS.
Gaudin is 4-10 w/over 5ERA in the NL…that translates to 7ERA in the AL…don’t we have a guy like this (Mitre)….
do we now owe 2 ptbnl or 3?

Did you see the Onion spoof on Halladay??
*Average age
More like it…
Cool Kate Hudson is here.
This would be for me the most satisfying win of the season especially with the enormous pressure of ending the 0-fer series. This could jolt this team like it did in 06 with that 5 game sweep of the Sox.
Cashman mentioned today on his interview with Francesca that they could skip some of Joba’s starts to save his innings, so we may still see Mitre
Guess what?
I’m calling this game won.
Trolls are free to post now.
Here’s a link to the Onion Roy Halladay spoof. Its hilarious!
http://www.theonion.com/conten.....=a-section
Melky can do no wrong for me tonight but they just showed the replay of the Posada play at home and he wasn’t in position to help Jorge on the play, he must have been 20 feet away and just sort of hand signalling as the ball came to the plate.
It’s still on Jorge, he will be the first to admit it, but he also didn’t get any help. Fortunately it didn’t matter, it would have only mattered if Matt was managing the team.
Just win this game – man, I want it badly. I would hope Joe would leave Melancon in for another inning, but you never know with him.
“He could be like bubble boy!!!”
The correct answer is MOOPS.
Lets just go with a 4 man rotation. We won several world series with a 4 man in the 70s.
I feel sorry for traber
uh why is giradi managing like game 7?? why use coke up 7 runs? tito is smart to play traber, keep bullpen fresh.
Who gets up in the 8th?
It’s doubtful Melancon can throw strikes.
Can Brian Bruney be trusted with an 8 run lead?
The walks against this team this year is embarrassing.
It has to improve the rest of the weekend.
lay it on thick!
Tex!
Poor Billy Traber’s arm…He can rest it on the ride back to Pawtucket
Trabers bag are already on the plane to Pawtucket
TEX baby
Phil Hughes is hilarious. haha
Tex message!
Traber… still in there for the sox, how do you reward him, he’s being sent down right after the game… meanwhile Clagget has not seen the mound with a 8 run lead… now 9 run lead.
Man, that A-Rod. Hitting homeruns when his team has a 12-4 lead. What a bum.
Oh, wait. That wasn’t A-Rod, you say? That was Teixeira?
Oops. My mistake.
Kabam!
7th inning stretch and list update…
LIST OF PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ALLOWED TO CHEER IF THE YANKEES WIN BECAUSE THEY DEEMED THIS GAME OVER IN THE 2ND AND 3RD INNING:
Chickie
JZ
Jeremy
AL FROM BK (eh tu)
BRYAN
YKW
RDM
UKE-1st Place Yankees
Triple Short of Cycle
I will continue adding names as the game progresses.
Run Phil, run!
Poor Traber. But he’s definitely taking one for the team since their bullpen was all but depleted in Tampa.
Hopefully Burnett pitches better against this Sox lineup. This is not the April Sox lineup. This is a easier lineup to navigate through. There’s no reason to walk them 10 times.
betsy, Meloncon is in for the 8th and Bruney in the 9th.
Melancon for the 8th and let Claggett pitch the 9th. If he gets in trouble then you go to Bruney. If Claggett finishes it then our bullpen is in great shape for tomorrow and using Hughes last night was the right move.
This really isn’t the Boston BP I think we can all see Terry is giving up this game to win the war.
Traber’s arm is gonna fall off. Can’t imagine he’s thrown 60 pitches in a looong time.
there is no reason to take out Melancon, he can just get the last 6 outs to the complete satisfaction of the LoHud blog.
He looks pretty good, also, maybe he can move up the pecking order soon.
13-4 it’s ALMOST safe to bring in Bruney!
A-Rod Sux.
A Rod is just horrible…he really is…what kind of swing is that?
Dude, Dr. Cox, seriously, get a life.
“Gaudin is an Impressionist Halladay. ”
You know you may be right because if you squint hard at this picture, you kind of see Halladay.

Since Hudson A-roid is hitting like pat kelly!
How about we focus on the positive tonight (so far) instead of moaning? The walks are terrible, but most of those are on Joba (there is the danger of assuming that he was going to pitch lights out the rest of the year). The Yankees offense has brutalized the Sox tonight – we do have an 8 run lead. This type of game should come as no surprise as they’ve often had these long, ugly battles. That’s sort of what helps make the rivalry so exciting. Tomorrow, who knows? We could have a great pitching duel……..
Wow. Francona must really hate Traber. This is cruel. Not only is he getting lit up like a Christmas tree, but his arm is not designed to take this kind of abuse. Not cool at all.
Get off A-Rods case, we’re up 9 runs, its not hard to give away at bats, he should be riding the pine when we’re up by this many
Jesus H…Traber is still in there? 60+ pitches
Hope he’s got that insurance…
2-1 count, guy throws about 55mph, A Rod swings at a ball way outside and fouls out….Gees
Traber can’t point as well as Coke that’s for sure.
What a lousy sky point job. No authority on that point at all.
Guadin is a nothing move. Let’s hope he’s better than Mitre but don’t expect much. He has a 5+ Era in the NL West and is 7th in the league with walks. That doesn’t translate well to the AL East.
I saw it earlier, Erica, thanks. Funny stuff.
Oh no, Brian Cashman just admitted he thought he was acquiring Chad Bradford.
Will a 9 run lead make Yankee pitchers unafraid of the strikezone?
Only way you can save the pen is to have guys throw strikes.
nice to see even in a 13-4 game Alex still gets criticized.
Average run support for Gaudin this year is 3.63, as per baseball-reference.com. 13 of his 19 starts he received 3 runs or less. THe yankees offense will result in more wins. And he’s better than Mitre or Agawa
Bring bruney after the game. Its never that safe!
So much for burning Boston’s bullpen.
Traber at 68 pitches.
How many can Tito let him throw?
no mo
no phil
no brunney
no aceves
no proctor (oops)
let the kids finish it up.
Arod can’t win, if he hits one out all of you will say he only hits when it doesn’t count, when he hits a pop up he sucks.
Wow seriously some of ya’ll getting on Arod for not getting a hit in a 13 -4 game? please get help.
and lol at Hughes before running for the ball after Tex hr. cute
Man Traber takes the bullet tonight, and will be gone by tomorrow’s game.
Gaudins numbers aren’t that bad. He has only given up 7 HR’s in 105 innings with 105 hits allowed and 105 K’s
“Baseball is built on little deceptions: the curveball, the hidden-ball trick, the existence of Stan Musial. And we’re not the only team who bends the truth. The Padres played 212 games last year just to make a little extra money. Just slid by and no one noticed. Milwaukee doesn’t even have a third base.”
haha the onion is great Erica
Way to stay positive, RDM (as usual).
I’m far from being a pom-pommer, but you, sir, are a buzz-kill.
For whatever reason all of the yankee pitchers – including Joba looked very tight.
They have a huge lead. But it looks like the enormity of this series after losing the first 8 games to the Sox has gotten to them some.
Melancon and Robertson both looked tight when they entered the game.
I think a big weight will be lifted off this team once they win this game.
That will help the young players most of all
They’ll be able to relax for the next three games.
The offense has just done a magnificent job tonight. Can’t give them enough credit.
Even though it’s Billy Traber – it’s very easy for an offense to get lulled to sleep with a huge lead. They lose an edge.
All night – every time the sox have scored or even threatened the team has come back.
The play that exemplified this for me tonight was Jeter getting thrown out at second.
That was a bad running play. But think about how much jeter wanted it. They’re up 7-8 runs and rather than stopping at first Jeter is trying to dig out the extra base.
That’s been this offenses mentality tonight – and for most of this entire season.
Boy, that SJ troll is pathetic – he’s not even making an attempt to sound like him.
What is Phil doing that’s so funny?
JT, the Yankees need to win this game. They will have Ace and Mo tomorrow….probably not Phil, but maybe for a batter or two.
GB, I’m crossing my fingers that they can get through the next two innings, lol
Brandon… I’M AWESOME ! SOMEBODY FIND ME THE REAL CC SABATHIA !!!! August 6th, 2009 at 10:25 pm

I was joking lol

August 6th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
This really isn’t the Boston BP I think we can all see Terry is giving up this game to win the war.”
Brandon. You’re exactly right.
It was actually smart that Tito saw how this game would play out and left Traber in there to take the brunt.
Now they have a rested BO for the rest of the series.
Safe spot to deck a Suxer.
Teams get warned and Sux can’t retaliate tomorrow without paying the price.
What does RDM stand for?
“So much for burning Boston’s bullpen.
Traber at 68 pitches.
How many can Tito let him throw?”
As much as he can, Terry doesn’t care about this game. He knows they loss this one, he’d rather lose tonight save Delcarmen, Ramirez, Jones and Saito and Oki for the rest of the series.

Since Hudson A-roid is hitting like pat kelly!
Pat Kelly at least hit a home run that had major play off implications for the Yankees.
The positives….Yankee hitting (except for a couple)…..and so far their relief pitching…that is it…not the starting pitching
“meanwhile Clagget has not seen the mound with a 8 run lead… now 9 run lead.”
You have to remember how Girardi manages. Unlike Yankee fans on the lohud blog who get a collective ulcer when someone isn’t put into a game just because they think he should be, Girardi tends to be a little more circumspect in the way he makes decisions. With a four-game series with the Sux I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s thinking that despite the fact that it would make the impatient jackals here happy to see Clagett in tonight’s game, it’s better not to burn his arm any sooner than necessary. Because see, the more arms you burn tonight, the fewer you have tomorrow night, etc.
Just a guess.
Chad Gaudin has to be a better option than Frasier Crane, I mean Paul Byrd.
the point about Gaudin most of you are missing is that he’s already pitched outstanding games against both Seattle and Texas when he was with the Padres and the Yankees have series coming up with both of them in August. There are two starts right there where he gives them a big advantage of Mitre.
Strikes and a clean inning for Melancon would be nice here.
With all the walks, hard to remember the Sox only have 6 hits.
Carl,
That’s the sad part. You can’t even joke about A-rod.
Going to bed….the Yankees Win…the Yankees win…now, show us some guts and beat Beckett tomorrow night!!!! Have a good night all!!
Chad Gaudin has a red eye flight from San Diego. By the time he gets settled and a roster move is made, he might don pinstripes on Saturday.
He would be on tap to make Mitre’s next start.
“Francona must really hate Traber. This is cruel. ”
Don’t know if he hates him. But unfortunately for Traber things are only going to get worse after the game.
They are going to definitely send him back to AAA or DFA him if he can’t be optioned back (don’t know what his contract calls for).
They are going to bring up a fresh arm for tomorrow’s game – probably the legendary Hunter Jones.
The one bad thing about winning a game like this at home is that the Yankee pitchers have to pitch an extra inning.
have we had a 1,2,3 inning tonight? I already forgetting details of this game
lol. That’s chin music for any other player.
Melancon reminds me of Conan O’brien for some reason.
I can understand the kids feeling the pressure – they know they are 0-8 against the Sox and this is some of their earliest exposure to the white hot rivalry. AJ has experienced that as well – it’s just different wearing blue jay blue instead of pinstripses – so imagine how youngsters are feeling?
CB, I can’t agree more about the offense………they’ve come up HUGE tonight.
“The positives….Yankee hitting (except for a couple)…..and so far their relief pitching…that is it…not the starting pitching”
In this “you can’t have everything” world, I’d say that’s not bad. How does the saying go, when the pitching struggles, it’s up to the offense to pick it up?
Well jinkies, it worked!

What’s a newspaper?
just ONE inning with no walks PLEASE
That’s what I’m talkin about
Shut up Smurf.
Doesn’t matter if Gaudin’s already beat Seattle and Texas. Mitre beat the Os this year, but would you trot him out against them again?
Gaudin is so inconsistent, and Texas is a great hitting team, I wouldn’t run him out against them if I can help it at all.
And there’s the HBP we’ve all been waiting for……are we going to have a Prince Fielder incident with Pedroia?
Srsly I’d let Melancon finish this…Dustin there ain’t no sissy in Melancon I wouldn’t do that if I were you.
where did the jockey get nailed?
Pedroia has a big big mouth.
ooo stop pedrioia, its melancon, that was not intentional.
Ha the Elf got hit.

It could get real ugly, real fast for the Sox.
that was a really bad choice of location by Melancon, that’s going to cause some problems for the Yankees during this series and beyond.
We didn’t need to see Coke or Melancon in this game, Cashman and Girardi both said that clagget will be gone fairly soon and Ramiro Pena will be back on the team. Shoulda done what Francona did with Traber, burn a few innings
Alright chill out. Posada practically held his hand toward first it clearly wasn’t intentional. We have been walking guys left and right is it really a shocker to them our pitchers have no control?
It wasnt on purpose, you little rescue ranger.

Pedrioa just wants a hug from his crush Jeter.
Gaudin has had a decent year or two in the AL, what do you people want at this point past the non-waiver deadline? Still way better than Meat-tray, Igawa or Ponson.
Fight! Fight! Girardi and Francona!
Teixeria and the Hobbitt.
Who wins, I’ve got to know?
Oh brother. Whether or not that’s intentional, this isn’t the time or the place.
Here we go, I hope he wasn’t throwing at him, no need for that at this point
Lets hope Pedroia doesnt go all Prince Fielder on the Yankees.
Oh my goodness, does NESN praise Jeter to high heavens, the way YES does Pedroia?
Wake up the sleeping dogs, Kay? why the heck would Melancon wanna start something.
awww Ped can’t hurt his BF. That was cute

boo hoo cry me a river. S

Post Of The Night!
Yeah with a 13-4 lead, Melancon is going to go after Pedroia. Just because, I guess.
He looks like excrement from a constipated turtle.
I don’t blame Pedroia for getting pissed on that one. 96 neck high? No thanks.
haha. On one of those replays, it looked like Jeter tripped Pedroia.
A testy Hobbit. Now this game has seen everything.
Unbelieveable…really is

Now the Sux is going to hit one of our hitters (I know who I would hit) and here we go…
I’ve never seen excrement from a constipated turtle. Learn something every day.
I give props to Pedera for not whipping out Derek on that force out…He could have really inflicted some pain…Class act
Maybe if Girardi pitched him more he would have better command. And he wouldn’t be all over the place. Going by his minor league track record he has good command/control.
But has barely pitched in the majors.
It was neck high because Pedoriar is a mini-me version of mini-me.
It makes me sick…when I see people in the good seats not even watching the game!!!
People having chats with each other… others just staring off into space…
uggghhh!
“Thats because this game is ridiculously long…”
Erica,
And because it actually ended in the 3rd inning when “Uke” called the game over. I believe it was 1-0 at that point. The game you are watching now if just a mirage.
Sorry, but it just doesnt get old lol.
Boston Massacre III.
I’m loving it.
Beckett is definitely going after Jeter or Tex tomorrow. Possibly Alex but I really think it will be one of those two. The last time I can remember the Yankees having a poor reaction to being hit this year was when Tex got hit twice by Padilla in Texas which was clearly intentional especially the second time.
someone should show Pedroia tapes of the early ’00s games between Pedro, Tilmlin, Schilling, and the rest of the Sawx pitchers who consistently threw at Jeter, Knoblach, and Soriano
“Sometimes the Yanks can be classless…1-2 count and beans him…that is in poor taste, it really is….your up 13-4″
If this is meant to be funny, it’s hilarious. If it is serious, you are a nutcase or a Sux troll, or more likely both. Only a nutcase or Sux troll would accuse Mark Melancon of headhunting an elf.
That was intentional and now one of our players will get hit
Melancon and Girardi are piece of human excrement. Who didnt see that coming? He let Melancon do the dirty work for him.
There was no intent with either pitch. Melancon is all over the place. He’s not a 96 MPH thrower and trying to be isn’t going to impress anybody. Getting outs will.
You all will be crying when a Yankee gets drilled.
No reason to even go up and in with a 9 run lead.
Another kid in the majors before he is ready.
That’s how hitters on your own team get hurt.
so who do the sox plunk? Tex? Arod? hideki?
RDM I thought you were going to bed.
“That was intentional and now one of our players will get hit”
One of your players already got hit – Pedroia. Head off to SOSH troll.
SJ44, overreact much?
cano’s jump throw imitation
RETIRE BIG PAPI’S CORPSE and end this inning
Great play by Cano on the ghost of David Ortiz.
Cano baby!
Ncie play Tex
Tex’s Gold Glove Play of the Night
Wow, what a play by Cano…….and what a scoop by Tex!
MG, no they don’t matter to me.
Check out his stats. When he’s bad, he’s bad, it doesn’t matter who he faces. He does have occasional gems but I don’t think you say that because he did well against a team once, he’ll do so again the next time he faces them. He’s just not that kind of pitcher.
I wish he had drilled Ortiz. I’d love to see what would squirt out.
rotoworld on Gaudin:
“It’s not exactly clear what the Yankees see in Gaudin. He has a 5.13 ERA and a 1.53 WHIP this season despite pitching in the spacious confines of Petco Park and isn’t much of an upgrade over Sergio Mitre, if at all. Perhaps the 26-year-old will deal well with a change of scenery.”
HA HA HA, RDM!!! Now your tubby steroid user ended the inning. Off to bed with ya. You’ll need time to stop sobbing before you can sleep.
No fear in my four foot buddy dustin to charge the Yankee club house after the game! where is Fielder when you need him.
LOL @ Tex’s reaction to cano’s play
That is NOT SJ44……..
That doesn’t sound like SJ?
This game is over, and David Roidtiz fails.
What a play by Cano and Tex.
If both of them don’t win Gold Gloves this year, something is really wrong with the voting.
Claggett’s coming in…
Gees, SJ and I agree….I knew I could teach SJ a few things…LOL
Wait wait what? Can Melancon pull a Brad Penny? Please?
“so who do the sox plunk? Tex? Arod? hideki?”
The Sox don’t mess around, they go right for the heart and soul.
The Captain will get hit tomorrow night.

Melancon did not hit him on purpose. getting hit is a part of baseball. The redsox always hit our players, especially jeter. I could care less. the redsox have embarrassed the yankees left and rright this year. the biggest moment in my mind was when jacoby stole home on pettite. That was extremely disrespectful and I’m glad his sorry but is 0-5 tonight.

Great play by Cano and Tex.
if they hit anyone they should hit Cano, he’s a zombie out there anyway most of the time.
Going from Mitre to Gaudin is basically going from Motel six to the Econo Lodge… any improvement is minimal at best.
But they might get a couple of decent starts, who knows? He has decent stuff, but he also walks about four guys per nine innings. But has had to be better than Sergio Meatball doesn’t he?
He has pitched better on the road than he has in San Diego which is sorta strange
“Melancon and Girardi are piece of human excrement. Who didnt see that coming? He let Melancon do the dirty work for him.”
WAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go see what your SOSH pals have to say about it.
it’s funny how some of us think hitting Pedroia was not something you want to do in a game like this and how many others were happy. Didn’t you see how Prince Fielder went beserk when Mota hit him in a similar game? How about Teix after Padilla drilled him?
There is no reason to throw inside like that in a game like this. He missed the location badly, by at least a foot, maybe 2, but major league pitchers aren’t supposed to do that.
Brian in 702
You are one sick individual. Oh yea lets hit Pedroia for what Pedro did all those years ago.
The Boston bullpen was burned in the Tampa series.
You think burying Ortiz’s jersey had the reverse effect? Think about it, this is definitely NOT his year!
Let’s make Saito throw over 20 pitches this inning.
No easy outs!
Will Saito go hunting??? I think Beckett will do the dirty work, and I think Tex will be thre guy to get it.
No Brandon, I don’t think it does……he sounds like a reactionary troll is what he sounds like.

He and hinske have been terrific given their role.
I thought it was very, very telling about the kind of value Hairston could provide when he was inserted as a defensive replacement for Swisher.
Hairston has played 3b all year.
But the manager still thinks he is a better RF than the starter.
That is a flexible asset to have on the team.
You really have to hope that this was just a hiccup by Chamberlain. I wasn’t able to watch much, but I’d guessing he had trouble finishing hitters and ended up nibbling. In the first inning, according to gameday, he was trying to throw all of his pitches, which is nice, but normally you wait to showcase your curveball and changeup the 2nd or 3rd time toward the order.
Hey miggs,
Your manager is a piece of junk and a headhunter. May misery come to him.
Hello Claggett. How many will he walk?

MG, if that was really you, I don’t know that many of us believe that Melancon was anything other than tired and showed it. The guy was not trying to throw at the hobbit.
We all got over it quickly because we knew that it wasn’t intentional in a 13-4 game. But we’re used to crying trolls so that’s what many us were speaking to.
Also that is definitely an SJ imposter. No way SJ accuses Melancon of intentionally trying to hit the hobbit nor pompously announcing that Melancon MUST known how to pitch without having any control problems. DUH!!!!!
STOP WALKING EVERYBODY
I think he annoucers are ready to leave. They are starting to lose it.
Claggett decided to join the walk parade.
Doesn’t want to feel left out.
I love that the Yankees are crushing the Sox tonight, but man are these games absolutely excruciating to watch. On the bright side, 3.5 games up sounds quite nice.
On a down note, the Stadium sounds like a golf gallery.
I love cox, just like my name says.

IMO, 70%
if AJ is a little wild, he could get tossed on an unintentional HBP while trying to go inside.
“Hey miggs,

Wah!!!!!
I’m sure he will be terribly miserable as he realizes that the hapless worthless Sux are headed for 3.5 out of first. Pathetic that we have to play little league teams that get paid major league salaries, but c’est la vie.

70%? Where are you BSing that number from?
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.c.....ref=sihpT1
VERY good article on Phil…….
Love this:
While Hughes has occasionally mixed in a cut fastball as a reliever, he has by and large set his change-up aside: He has thrown exactly one of them since he joined the Yankees’ bullpen. It’s a pitch that both he and Cashman know that he’ll have to command when he becomes a starter again, and there is some concern that his stint in relief might delay its development. “He’ll have to get back to that,” says Cashman, “but the sacrifice of continuing the development of that change came at an explosion of confidence, in that he now knows that he can dominate any hitter in the game.”
This will hurt all the Scranton fans but Claggett is terrible, he doesn’t belong in the major leagues right now.
9 run lead, 4 pitch walk. #11 for the night.
Another Yankee pitcher petrified of the strikezone.
Get somebody else up in case Claggett falls apart again.
Now you see why they went out and got Gaudin.
They need more arms because none of these prospects can throw strikes.
Dr Cox,
you need to keep Sox fans off the list!
Please tell me Claggette is the PTBNL
3 1/2 games
Man, Claggett’s ERA dropped from 43.20 to 36.00 with one out
Clag’s ERA just went from 43 to 36.
SJ44,
save your post til the end.
it might be 14 walks.
This is ridiculous. Can we find someone that can throw strikes? Good grief!
Can anyone on this team THROW STRIKES?
I know we’re gonna win tonight, but it was ugly. 12 walks already, and rising.
I guess they won’t stop from walking people until 11pm…
Awww, Dr. Cox, please stop thinking you’re important enough for me to post in your pathetic name
I expect Claggett to be sent down tomorrow and Pena up.
If Jed Lowrie had fouled a ball off his leg like that, he’d have a compound fracture.
“You really have to hope that this was just a hiccup by Chamberlain. I wasn’t able to watch much, but I’d guessing he had trouble finishing hitters and ended up nibbling. He was pitching on 7 days rest, didn’t get the benefit of a stable strike zone a lot of the time, and waited out a 35-minute inning. I’d say you shouldn’t waste a lot of time worrying about this one.
60% of the time, he hits someone everytime.
UPDATE, 9:59 p.m.: The Yankees have acquired Chad Gaudin from the Padres for a player to be named later. That could be it for Sergio Mitre.

They should have introduced Gaudin in the middle of the game. Like how they announced the Clemens deal in 2007

Erica,
Its almost like a badge of honor on this board.
But this one is so obvious. Its Uke-1st place Yankees.
Atleast wait a few days, so the though had slipped through the cracks, son.
“Josh Beckett tomorrow…
odds he hits someone?”
The sox are spiraling downwards rapidly.
I don’t know what the odds are – but I do know they’ve used the “oh no we got hit” mantra to try to rally the troops often in the past.
They need some fireworks to get things lit. They’re in the doldrums and this week has been an absolute beating for them.
another walk Claggett? Really? REALLY?
what a chump. get bruney in here, at least he might still be useful at one point and it’s worth it to try and find out.
Throw…..f’n……..strikes
I think all these walks are meant to further humiliate the Red Sox. 11 free passes and only 4 runs. That’s the only thing that would explain such horrid control.

Is Mitre out of options?
just because Claggett isn’t ready for the majors now doesn’t mean he might not be a decent pitcher next year or the year after, just not now. He’s probably pitched less than 200 innings in organized baseball, only special talents can be effective with that little development.
If I was your son, I would have committed suicide a longggg time ago
Dr Cox-
It was obvious too. The imposter forgot the space between the . and Dr
Why is this ump being so stingy with the strike zone in a 9-run game? It’s driving me crazy.
i think we should hit another red sox just to piss christina25 off
Just give it up. Elles…
CB,
that was my thinking as well.
If Beckett is dealing, it’s a different story, perhaps.
I can see the Sox trying to fire up the troops.
If they fall behind early tomorrow, I wouldn’t be surprised.
Obviously Claggett’s game against the Indians wasn’t just a bad game. This is him…
Pena will be here tomorrow for Claggett.
If you can’t throw strikes with a 9 run lead, you have no value to a roster.
I missed the first part of the game, but Cousins has a tight strike zone. It’s the 9th inning of a four hour game dude.
IF I’m the ump I stretch this strike zone like it’s never been stretched before.

“SJ44,

Who gives a rat? A win is a win and not every game is filled with strike outs and ground outs. Yankees have the best record in the majors and are heading for 3.5 game lead in the AL East. Some people have too much time on their hands or take their analytical skills far too seriously.
I still think we’re dealing with the SJ imposter.
Naw, SJ44, they can throw strikes, they’re just doing this on purpose since they hardly ever get in games anyway.
Gives them a chance to stay out there a little longer.
OH where were all the people complaining about Joe using Hughes yesterday. We’ll need him tomorrow. Oh really?

If Mo has to get up in this game, Claggett should be summarily executed and dumped in the Hudson.
Geez Claggett stinks

How about this? Thank you Anthony Clagett, for pitching an inning for us.
He’ll get the out.
So many of you are thankless vultures.
Claggett should only pitch when we are trailing. That way it doesn’t matter how many runs he gives up.
They should hit Red Sox players for all of the years Red Sox pitchers hit yankee players.
I really hope I never have to see Anthony Claggett on the mound again.
many of you were calling for Claggett last night in a close game, do you understand now why that would have been a bad move?
What an awful job by this kid.
Thank God he’s gone tomorrow.
He puts Martinez on, you have to pull him.
Sox still trying to slow the game down?
Shaking off Po. lol.
The yankees have lost 8 games in a row to the sox.
And on game 1 of what is arguably the biggest game of the series the yankees have used five pitchers.
And everyone of them was a rookie.
Now I’m saying that in a value neutral sense. Not a good thing or bad necessarily.
But if someone were to tell you 3 years ago that in a game of this magnitude the yankees would throw 5 rookies against the sox – that would have been hard to believe, even in a 13-5 game.
LOL I’d stretch this strikezone Enrico Palazo style…or else we’ll be here till morning
Bye bye Anthony.
This game really needs to end.
LOL! Martinez 0-3.
The “curse” is broken! Lets make it even more embarrassing for the Sox tomorrow.

On the bright side, though, his MLB ERA has gone down, tonight. It’s dropped by 10 runs.

Burned through the whole pen? Ever hear the names Mo, Hughes, and Aceves? I think that’s enough to win a game tomorrow if AJ pitches well, if he doesn’t it won’t matter since Beckett is unlikely to give up more than a few runs anway.

Devin, as Jeter always says, it doesn’t matter if it’s by one run or 20, it still counts as a win.
1. While Joba may not have had his best stuff, he was on 7 days rest so that may have affected him. Plus he sat out a 35 minute inning.
2. We did not burn through our whole pen.
3. We got quite a few clutch hits. But even if we didn’t SO WHAT??????????????? WE WON!!!!
4. We just dominated them. But as far as I’m concerned, as long as it’s a W, it’s all good.
1 down 3 to go
not a great job by the pitching staff, but at least we are in the win category in the series(not to mention 3 1/12 games up in the standings)

Claggett is the perfect example of wasting roster space on the 40 man roster….
***
Thats right. Every pitcher on the 40 man should be a Cy Young candidate.
Claggett came in tonight to eat an inning in a ballgame so the great bullpen guys weren’t needed. He filled that role.
Get off the kid’s back. When you are a GM you can stock the 40 man roster with all .300 hitters and pitchers with .200 ERAs.
I’m going to make the argument that tomorrow’s game is a make or break game —…..For the Sox. Right now that team is reeling and the only thing they are really holding on to is Beckett and Lester.
If we can somehow take the game tomorrow night – that will be a major back breaker for Boston.
Yehhhhh, Im cheering, great job Yankee offense! Way to go! YEAAAAH!
There are way too many mommies on this board. This is baseball, not pre-school. Should we give Pedroia some milk and cookies for the boo boo? maybe we can give Claggett a lollipop for finally getting an out.
Christina25
Really I don’t give a crap about Pedroia and his family. Red Sox pitchers like Pedro and Beckett have always hit yankee batters, sending jeter and soriano to the hospital. So he is getting what he deserves. Screw the hobit.
Christina25,
I really hope Melancon didn’t hit Pedroia on purpose. If he did, he was wrong…. especially wrong because it was up.
but, how many times do you think Pedroia has cheated on his wife?
If you’re within 5, I’ll give it to you.
(of course I don’t know the exact #, but still)
Darrin, how about YOU not lose sight of that? All I care about is that they won. I will not be listening to Francesca tomorrow as I already know he’s going to be freaking out over what lousy game this was, how bad the pitching was, etc……….If the Sox had won this game, I guarantee, he’d be praising them to high heavens. The Yankees won – who cares how they won it? Ok, it was an ugly game – I am almost sure there have been other ugly games in the history of baseball. In none of those instances did the winning team insist on giving the win back.
And on game 1 of what is arguably the biggest game of the series the yankees have used five pitchers.
And everyone of them was a rookie.
——————-
CB -
I don’t think Joba is a rookie, or is he?
It’s easy to see why the Red Sox offense has been so bad lately. They had 12 walks and only managed to score 4 runs until they faced Claggett.
If they can’t drive in runs against pitchers who throw strikes, then no wonder they couldn’t touch Garza and the other Rays’ pitchers.
Again, if I was your son, I would not be posting here, I would be calling the police because my father sexually abuses me or I would have killed myself long ago
In the words of Gordon Bombay via Mighty Ducks 2 after their win again Trinidad and Tobago:
“That wasn’t a game, that was a statement.”
Anytime Clagget is pitching the 9th against the red sox it was pretty much a dominating win by the yankees.
While Joba wasn’t outstanding it could of have been worse. He showed some real grit to get out of the fifth inning. That kind of experience only helps him in the future.
I thought Christina said if the Yankees won one game she’d be gone. So what is she still doing here?
Darrin,
every Sox fan I talked to said they would be fine if the Sox can win the Beckett and Lester starts.
If the Yanks win tomorrow, it will suck the life out of Red Sox nation (and maybe the Sox too).
I’m not sure how you score 13 runs without a clutch hit or two? Explain, please?
UGH..now the worst postgame period.
the red sox /yankee rivalry can test friendships at times, but i finished work here on cape cod at ten strolled over to the local main street scene in front of the liquor store next door and there were assorted yankee fans and red sox fans giving each other good natured crap. one yankee fan even works for espn. all was in good fun.

Oh brother.
Barry Larkin on MLB talking up Smoltz saying he’s just around the corner from once again being a dominate pitcher.
What part of a 8.32 ERA doesn’t MLB understand.
from last post -
Christina25 does not get banned because Pete enjoys her posts.
2nd, Pete whining again, this time about Ali having to have a press pass. Well, he might have trouble identifying himself because of his illess. Also, Jabbar was not recognized earlier this year at a Lakers game. Better to be safe than sorry.
3rd, I wanted to clarify about the other day. I knew in advance that Christina25 doesnt have an autistic son. I never meant any of that karma garbage in regards to a child. If Christina had a child at all, she wouldnt be on Yankes Lohud antagonizing fans and laughing at illnesses of others like Boone.
4th,
I guess Christina forgot about Papi in 2006 having an irregular heartbeat which was most likely caused by the roids.
Don’t care how ugly it was because a win is a win.
Beckett gave up 8 runs earlier in the season and was still awarded a ‘W.’
The best part about it is they didn’t use the major go-to guys in the pen outside of Coke.
Well so far this year Joba has been erratic … his velocity has been down, it’s been up … he’s been a little shaky on the control, he’s been very good with a couple pitches, or he’s been simply dominant. Sometimes all in the same game too. The ‘pen cost him a couple decisions early on. Needing the ‘pen in the first place cost him a couple decisions too. Still, the guy has an 8-2 record with a 3.73 ERA. First full year. Not bad for a beginner.
“I’d buy that for a dollar!”
Smoltz probably thinking (if not, he should) maybe it wasn’t worth stretching the career one more season.

NESN already blaming YS for all the HR.
while potentially valid, both Sox HR benefit from it while only Damon’s HR did.
they conveniently showed Damon’s HR but not Kotchman’s or Pedroias.
Melky, Posada, and Tex crushed theirs.
It may be a valid argument in general, but tonight it had nothing to do with the outcome.

Hey Brian,
Its funny how you think that its okay for Pedroia to get hit because of the past history. Pedroia who has a pregnant wife at home and he has his whole life ahead of him.Do you think that I was okay when Pedro was headhunting? For your information I dont care who you are you dont throw at people’s head.

so Joba walked a bunch.
he got the outs when he needed them and limited the damage. The 5th could have been much worse, but he grinded it out and got out of the jam.
Ummm..
Melancon did not hit PEDroia on purpose.
I mean, doesnt 12 walks say it all. Our team had no control tonight, and losers like Melancon and Claggett you cant expect anything but a lack of control from them.
“You have got to be divorced. I can’t imagine any guy hat could stomach living with you on a daily basis.”

Pepi,
You are of course correct.
But I gotta say…
I was struggling to counteract the mind numbing walk parade…
And you just took away my silver lining!!
It is Joba’s first full year starting but that doesn’t quite cut it with the whole rookie theme…
Man could a win be more painful?
Hmmm….
Russ Salzberg or Bob Lorenz and John Flaherty.
Tough decision.
and your comment was in no way user and family friendly, take it easy there, I don’t need to post on a blog to prove that Im a yankee fan, don’t need your approval to validate my support of the yankees
Okay- I have had enough Yankee craziness for one night.
Good night Yankee people!
“Who did we trade for Gaudin?”
PLEEEASE let it be Christina25 !
Sox are now closer to third place than first place!
An ugly win is still a win – they all still count the same.
I’ll take it.
The Sawx always seem to be whining about being hit lately. Longoria has a ball sail over his head. He glares but he’s not jabbing.
Looks like they look to pick a fight.
Melancon can be really good. I hope Girardi realizes that.
The Yankees are in a great position right now. I said before the game started that it would be a HUGE victory for whichever team won tonight.
Now the Yankees need to win just 1 more game of this series to still be up 2.5 games. Because they have a good advantage on Sat. (CC vs. Buchholz) losing tomorrow won’t be too bad. And if they win tomorrow against Beckett, then they’ll have all the momentum in the world.
At the same time, if the Sox had won today and had their ace on the mound tomorrow, they’d be feeling great about themselves and the Yankees would still have the 0-fer hanging over them.
This win tonight was the biggest win of the season, IMO. Joba was terrible and still managed to gut out a win, and the Yanks offense proved that they’re still better, even with the acquisition of Victor Martinez.
It may go unnoticed by Yankees fans, but the Sox continued to be pitiful with RISP today, something that has haunted them on the road all year. Whatever problems they had going into this game are still there (awful Smoltz, bad clutch hitting).
“NESN already blaming YS for all the HR.”
I am assuming that they forgot to mention that the Fenway dump is .315 to LF and .302 to RF right?
Salzberg is a buffoon
“NESN already blaming YS for all the HR.”
BD,
That’s a good thing. It’s a pathetic excuse and that’s fine.
They are grasping for straws as they watch their season spiral down the tubes.
They’ve got nothing to hold onto after the beating the rays and yanks have laid on them.
7-11 over the last 18 games.
They beat up on awful competition for a couple of weeks before the break.
And I know you know this – but up in boston this stretch was supposed to be where the sox prove themselves.
But know they have no answers for 3 spots in their rotation.
And the “no risk” signing of John Smoltz is proving to be quite the hazard.
CB, I’m feeling no pain………..a win is a win is a win. The Sox took advantage of the Yankees early this season in some ugly games and I promise the Sox and their fans were not unhappy……..
Melancon can be good, dont get me wrong, but right now, he is a loser….
and that HBP was not intentional, on account of currently being a loser.
Betsy – why don’t you chill out a little bit. I never suggested that the Yankees should insist “on giving the win back.” If you want to engage in a Straw Man argument go find someone else.
I thought Pete encouraged debate and discussion on this blog.
If you go back and read my original post, I started by writing how pleased I was to finally beat these bozos.
I then commented on how subpar the pitching was and they got away with one tonight. Is that a controversial opinion?
Here’s the way life works. If you are rational, you can be rational pretty much all of the time. If you are irrational, that follows your life also.
People here who freak out over every little thing (and it ain’t a small number) will continue to carry it on, even after Yankee wins. The people who were rational during the game and showed the ability to not lose their composure when something didn’t go their way continue to bring that after Yankee wins – and losses.
If you can’t deal with the fact that Joba had an off game tonight (and even worse can’t understand that pitching on 7 days rest could have affected him) then you will just continue to be irrational. If you can’t deal with the fact that a kid brought up to help out didn’t have a 1-2-3 9th inning, yet still mananged to shut out the inning, then you will just continue to be irrational. If you can’t find a way to appreciate the fact thast the players were out there giving their best no matter how the game ended, then you will just continue to be irrational.
And self entitled.
Neither characteristic is real pretty.
“You have got to be divorced. I can’t imagine any guy hat could stomach living with you on a daily basis.”

Well, you are so often right on the money on most things baseball, I thought I may have missed something.
But, you’re silver lining is still intact as far as I’m concerned, all those guys are under 27 years of ages, or lower. Our pitching corps is young, talented, and home grown! I couldn’t be more pleased, and knowing you like I do, I know you share my enthusiasm.
just got back from the game. that was fun.
but pete, do you have to spew the vitriol about the stadium and the empty seats during the biggest game of the year? save it for another blog post but don’t disrupt a game thread banging on your soap box.
I always love the Yankees Stadium launching pad argument from Red Sox fans.
I watched Nick Green win a game at Fenway by wrapping the ball around that absurd Pesky’s Pole. It was of course, a ball that would have been foul in any other park.
He hit it off the very end of the bat. It was pathetic.
And that’s not even taking in account the Green Monster.

Yanks/Sawx is good for business.
even if half of the posts are complaints or insults.
This series reminds me of a few years back when the yanks swept the 5 game series in Boston otherwise known as the present day Boston massacre. The sox are eerily close to the same edge of the cliff, than it was manny and ortiz injured, now it’s bay and dice-k and wakefield. If the yanks can beat beckett tomorrow they have a punchers chance of winning all four putting Boston 6.5 back and the foundation will crumble under them.
GG tonight.

AJ on the mound tomorrow we’ll see indeed.

Your right your lucky your not my son. I would have toughened you up instead of a sad, whiny little brat who is about to cry. Cry, kiddo…its ok.
Better yet, go get your mommy to feed you your ” bah bah” so you can have some milk and a pacifier before you go to bed. Speaking of which it is way past your bed time,

There were a couple of foul balls that the YES men said would have been home runs in Fenway. Ortiz’ pop out in the first(?) comes to mind. And there was the one that hit off the wall just foul in right; can’t remeber who hit it (Drew?). So, yeah, what are they complaining about exactly?
Beckett will hit Jeter or Tex, no chance he doesn’t

My guess is that the only concern will be found on this blog. Did you ever see other pitchers have bad nights with too much or too little rest? Would you think it prudent to take that into consideration and not get too carried away with this thing? I don’t think it has to do with regression or being 23. I think we need to wait until his next outing, on regular rest, before we even begin to call it a potential concern.
JMO
I think the launching pad is exciting.
Bombs are far more entertaining than small ball.
Thanks, Pel!! I knew I could count on you
I didn’t see the pitch – I can’t imagine Melancon would hit anyone on purpose (not only ticking the Sox off, but his own manager). BD, NESN sounds like it would make my ear bleed – what a bunch of whiners. They aren’t used to the Sox not having everything go their own way….

Smoltz not sounding good in the postgame. Basically said he was a BP pitcher.

Wow… someone asked Smoltz if time is no longer on his side and if he can keep running out there.
“I don’t know”
AJ can not get thrown out of the game and that is exactly what will happen if the benches get warmed (after Beckett hits someone) and AJ retaliates. He’s better of pitching well as his best revenge.
They better not send down Melancon or Robertson for Gaudain
Get rid of Mitre
unbelievable! 2800 gameday posts for a win!
Girardi- Gaudin can be used out of the bullpen or spot start.
I just hope Burnett isn’t handcuffed and loses the inside half of the plate if Beckett gets excited
Beckett is going to hit one of our guys first and set the tone for the game.
Beckett is very experienced when it comes to this type of stuff and almost always uses it to his advantage. I’m sure the last thing AJ is thinking about tomorrow is revenge. Beckett on the other hand, is probably a different story.
I love it when Nesn and boston fans in general cry fowl when things aren’t always rosy like obama is doing with the people at the town hall meetings. Whether it’s been tape gate or other cheating allegations with the pats, or issues with calls or home runs in other stadiums with the sox they gloss over it as bs. What about all the hr’s over the green monster or around the pesky pole, it was alright when the sox were getting those cheap hits but when it’s someone else its a conspiracy.

Roid Sox Nation LOL !
Melancon didn’t hit anyone on purpose. Give me a break.
The guy rarely pitches and now that he got an opportunity to pitch he’s going to start a bean brawl with an 8-run lead?
That’s idiotic and doesn’t make any sense.
Not a chance did Melancon hit the little punk on purpose.
CB nailed it.
The Red Sox are watching their season slip-slidin’ away, and the faithful are only now starting to deal with that in their own way. The truth that they are resembling our own Yankees from the early part of this decade is more than they can bear. ie, aging position players and lack of starting pitching. Good job by Cash in getting away from that.
Those great signings by Theo are looking less so. Baldelli is on the DL again, Penny is mediocre, and Smoltz again shows why the Braves cut him, and why he should retire.
Those signings may have been low-salary, but may prove very costly if they miss the playoffs and that extra revenue. Very poor business decisions. You get what you pay for.

Said this before – I wonder if they are going to move Aceves to the rotation if Mitre keeps throwing poorly.

———————————————————–
“A good voice for TV”? You monumental boob…he sounds like Pedroia looks.
Speaking of rational thinking – With a 13-4 lead there is no way Melancon was trying to hit anyone. He went inside and unfortunately the pitch hit Pedroia. Cousins didn’t want the game to get out of control so he issued warnings.
(paraphrase) Girardi
I couldn’t agree more.
On top of it, I almost will guarantee you that Beckett won’t try to hit one of our guys, nor will Burnett try to hit them. You know why? They also know it wasn’t a purpose pitch and they are out there trying to win games, not get thrown out of them.
Some of you have way too much time on your hands and imaginations that are out of control. I will remind you about this tomorrow night when you see that nobody hits anyone else.
Or maybe Burnett throws at a RS in the first inning. Benches warn and Beckett is the one who can’t retaliate.
I seem to recall in the first series at YS one of the RS was thrown at. Bay I believe and Beckett had a chance to throw at a Yankee and never did.
The RS are just the type of team that does nothing on the road in terms of retaliating but does it at Fenway.
Notice the bench clearing brawls are all at Fenway and never a YS?

Bottom line, Yankee hitters were on fire and we won.
“Or maybe Burnett throws at a RS in the first inning. Benches warn and Beckett is the one who can’t retaliate”
———
if Burnett even throws up and inside they might get warned.
it’s kind of a silly “rule” altogether
I loved Car 54 Where are you? lol – Mrs Garret of Facts of Life fame was in that show, along with of course the future Grandpa and Herman Munster. Great theme song, too….
friendly wager on Beckett beanin someone, I say he does
Knowing these umps… AJ will plunk someone in the 1st inning and the ump will eject him with no warning (like they did with John Lackey against Texas), and we have to use the pen for the entire game.

GB7 – “Officer Gunther Toody of the 53rd Precinct would definately shoot her and then claim justifiable homicide.”

Ha! “Car 54 Where Are You?”
I love it when the old dudes (me included) bring back great memories. “Oooh…Ooohh..Francis…”
Remember that GB7?

Loved that how. That and McHale’s Navy. Two shows that nevr should have been ruined by making movies outof them. I bought both complete series on discs. Great watching for laughs.
“Bottom line, Yankee hitters were on fire and we won.”

while true, Smoltz was throwing BP.
the Yanks pitching was borderline embarrassing (12? walks) but they still weren’t as bad as Smoltz/Traber.
I can’t see Smoltz getting another shot. Maybe Bowden.
Joba’s YES post-game reaction:

“It’d be really awesome if this team grew a pair.
And a shortstop.
And 3, 4, and 5 starters.
We really are screwed aren’t we?”
Quote from SOSH board, and a classic at that.
“The truth that they are resembling our own Yankees from the early part of this decade is more than they can bear. ie, aging position players and lack of starting pitching. Good job by Cash in getting away from that.”
I was thinking that this off season as they were making all of those “no risk” moves that are now turning out to be so risky that they are torpedoing the sox season.
We’ve seen that yankees go down that path before – the rebounding veteran/ player coming back from injury.
Didn’t work so well.
You keep talking about getting touched by your dad and that you want to commit suicide.
Did something happen to you when you were younger? I think you should really talk to someone.
You are crying out for help, son.
If I were AJ, I would just concentrate on having a good game. He doesn’t have to be macho and stupid out there, esp. since he’s struggled against the Sox this year
I think it’s time to put in Hughes now.
if lying about having a son w/autism isn’t grounds for being banned, I guess all bets are off (w/the exception of foul language, which is rightfully taboo here).
I agree beckett will hit a yankee early in the game tommorow but i bet he wont have the cohones that Garza had to admit he did it on purpose.
lmao… the guys at Yankee Stadium tonight with the 1-9-1-8 shirts really rubbed the NESN guys the wrong way.
I think that’s the third time tonight they brought them up.
(they didn’t even think or mention the tainted angle)
Trisha – “I don’t think it has to do with regression or being 23. I think we need to wait until his next outing, on regular rest, before we even begin to call it a potential concern.”
========================
Couldn’t agree with you more. The kid got himself into trouble, and was able to get out of it with no runs. Pretty good job I’d say.
I’m not sure I would even call it a bad game for him. He hasn’t pitched in a while, he had a 39 minute inning as the Yanks put up an eight spot. I think he did a pretty good job.
Maybe you’re crying out for a son, will no one allow you to procreate with them? I would suggest adoption but they have screening tests for that and someone of your mental state would not be able to pass those tests.

Car 54, Where Are You? Theme Lyrics
(Theme by Nat Hiken) – Car 54, Where Are You? Lyrics
There’s a hold up in the Bronx,

There’s a traffic jam in Harlem
That’s backed up to Jackson Heights.
There’s a scout troup short a child,
Kruschev’s due at Idlewild

the SoSH board is always a no-holds barred, jaw-dropping display.
they are rude and crude, but many are damn good writers (witty and extremely well-informed).
AJ is a big team guy. You saw what he did in the Padilla game
He will protect his team, ejection be dammed.
LOL Miggs, that quote is hilarious – I love it!
“If I were AJ, I would just concentrate on having a good game. He doesn’t have to be macho and stupid out there, esp. since he’s struggled against the Sox this year”
I would think that is exactly what he would want to do, and I think Beckett will want to do the same especially.
I think that is exactly what we will see Betsy.
it was insane and we were there
beaning means getting hit in the head, not hit in the body.
How is it already time to speculate on who Josh Beckett will hit tomorrow night? Who the heck cares–all this board was obsessed with the fact that the Yankees were 0-8 against Boston. Yet they smack the Red Sox and somehow it is already about “oh no, what will Beckett do tomorrow!!!” fear-talk. It was an ugly game but the Yankees dominated Boston across the board. Stop whining.
“lmao… the guys at Yankee Stadium tonight with the 1-9-1-8 shirts really rubbed the NESN guys the wrong way.”
I didn’t notice them until I saw the postgame. There were steroid signs in the stadium too and YES didn’t show them on camera.
I think Garza’s big mouth just showed he was an idiot. lol the whole league knows what happened and that you stood up for your guy then you go and confess and bud has to fine you….Garza’s like that though
“Brandon,
remember doing the offseason I kept on bring up Chad Gaudin? and guess what? the Yanks got him, LOL. my premutation is awesome!!”
I was thinking of your comment when that happened Ed.

GB, you’re really dating yourself with your tv references, lol……….
————————————————————
LMAO. That would be my first date in a month. Not likely to get many when watching the twins. Have to wait until they’re old enough to take them to the park and use them as girl bait.
Andrew- no ones whining, we won and that’s great but ya gotta talk about something right, so why not tomorrow’s game
I thought Smoltz actually had nasty stuff tonight. 91-92 right on the corners, slider diving into righties, showed a nice change.
The balls just found holes, but he is close. His stuff is there, soon the results will follow.
Brandon,
if you mentioned earlier then I missed it. but thanks for remembering dude.

I thought Smoltz actually had nasty stuff tonight.
I didn’t.
There’s some real nasty stuff being said on this blog right now, and the Yankees won the game. God help us if they lost!
I’m out!
See you guys tomorrow.

talk about saving the best for last
GB, that’s fantastic. Would you like me to post the theme to the Patty Duke Show or Mr. Ed?
Dave D, AJ is a huge team buy, but he’s better serve his team by staying in the game. Trish, Beckett’s a bit insane – I can’t predict what he’ll do, lol
No there is plenty of whining to go around. “Having to talk about something” does not equal dreading a game almost 24 hours away because of possible retribution over what should have been a non-issue.
I know this is not a Red Sox blog but Harold Reynolds made a great point on the MLB Network about SMoltz. He said that he has not been throwing the splitter which he see as the equalizer pitch especially against lefties. Suggested that perhaps because of the shoulder injury and surgery that is why.
Smoltz has had “nasty stuff” for the last 3-4 starts, results still are not here, I see he has somewhere near a .500 batting average against from lefties.
Smoltz’ fastball looked straight, flat and utterly hittable imo

Good God thank you, Andrew. I’ve been thinking the exact same thoughts. It’s almost like some posters are wired with nonstop exploding electrodes. After a while they don’t even make sense, they just keep on with some kind of stream of consciousness.

LOL @ NESN rough night for them
nasty comments or not, 140 or so before there are 3000 for the game.
Yanks are 3.5 up and life is good.
I thought Smoltz hung a lot of sliders early and for some reason we let him get away with it.
Groan, GB – I knew as soon as I posted that that you would say that.

keep telling yourself that
you’re not fooling anyone
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if warnings weren’t issued before the game, tomorrow night. Boston is in no position to be getting pitchers tossed. Melancon was wild and overthrowing. There was zero intent. 28 pitches and 12 of them balls. Not including the bad pitches that Boston swung at.
I don’t think there’s anything to be worried about with Joba. In most other ballparks, he probably would have just given up 1 or 2 runs tonight.
As others have said, Joba’s BAD outings are 5 ip, 4 ER types, which is pretty amazing for someone his age and with as little experience as him. Both Sabathia and Burnett have had outings worse than his worst outing this year.
So what kind of pitcher is Chad Gaudin anyway?
So what kind of pitcher is Chad Gaudin anyway?
Well it’s certainly not me whining I am excited for tomorrow’s game, much less dreading it. Speculation on what might happen is part of the fun.
“Maybe you’re crying out for a son, will no one allow you to procreate with them? I would suggest adoption but they have screening tests for that and someone of your mental state would not be able to pass those tests.”
Why you sure are extremely clever at insults.
But in all seriousness, your fascination with me, yourself getting touched as a child, and your announcement on this board that you want to kill yourself, really calls for ground of strong psycho-therapy.
I was a psych minor in college…you know what college is don’t ya, son? Well I learned that people of your unhinged mental state who were abused and suicidal actual harbor “h0mo” tendencies.
This makes perfect sense considering you are completely and utterly obsessed with me,
Im sorry, kiddo, I hate to break your heart but I dont swing that way. But dont worry, youll find prince charming soon enough.
He’s the kind that pitches to a 5 ERA in Petco park, lol
petes goin for 3000
Tex with the style points on the pick from Robbie.
Gaudin cant be any worse then Mitre, although Chad did get knocked around by the Braves the other night.
Psych major in college explains it all, now I know why you never amounted to anything, your poor poor parents, they must have been pretty disappointed when they realized how poor their decision to keep you was.
“plan is for Gaudin to start off in the bullpen.”

Yes. It’t the rational vs. the irrational I was talking about a short while ago.
Betsy I don’t agree that Beckett is a bit insane. In fact I think he is extremely sane and professional, and he knows exactly what he needs to do tomorrow night. And he is going to go out there and attempt to do it. And it doesn’t include throwing at Yankee hitters. His job is to stop the bleeding. And as Andrew pointed out, the whole thing is a nonissue since it wasn’t a purpose pitch by Melancon. Some things need a little intelligence behind them to even merit discussion. An AAA relief pitcher hitting someone in the 8th when his team has a 13-4 lead doesn’t even merit discussion since you have to be wired wrong to come up with any kind of “purpose” in that pitch.

GB, that’s fantastic. Would you like me to post the theme to the Patty Duke Show or Mr. Ed?
sure thing, Betsy.
Theme song for Mr. Ed
Mister Ed by Ray Evans and Jay Livingston – Mr. Ed Lyrics
A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And no one can talk to a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.
Go right to the source and ask the horse
He’ll give you the answer that you’ll endorse.
He’s always on a steady course.
Talk to Mr. Ed.
People yakkity yak a streak and waste your time of day
But Mister Ed will never speak unless he has something to say.
A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And this one’ll talk ’til his voice is hoarse.
You never heard of a talking horse?
Well listen to this.
I am Mister Ed.
theme song for the Patty Duke Show
- The Patty Duke Show Lyrics
Meet Cathy, who’s lived most everywhere,
From Zanzibar to Barclay Square.
But Patty’s only seen the sight.
A girl can see from Brooklyn Heights —
What a crazy pair!
But they’re cousins,
Identical cousins all the way.
One pair of matching bookends,
Different as night and day.
Where Cathy adores a minuet,
The Ballet Russes, and crepe suzette,
Our Patty loves to rock and roll,
A hot dog makes her lose control —
What a wild duet!
Still, they’re cousins,
Identical cousins and you’ll find,
They laugh alike, they walk alike,
At times they even talk alike —
You can lose your mind,
When cousins are two of a kind.
new post
“Brandon,
if you mentioned earlier then I missed it. but thanks for remembering dude.”
I didn’t. I was just thinking what f…g cowinkidink, Ed was talking about this guy in the offseason, like I was talking up Hairston Jr. last season, now both are here.
Control pitcher? Power pitcher? Good movement, poor control?
““plan is for Gaudin to start off in the bullpen.”
Kepner’s Twitter”
What that means is he is the long reliever and Ace is going into the rotation.
The thing that has to impress people about Chamberlain is how well he works out of jams. I think opponents are 1-25 w/RISP against him, or something like that.
If he improves his command and puts fewer runners on base, he’s going to be really dominant.
yeah speaking rationally Beckett has never thrown at any yankees, people don’t overreact or misinterpret things and the yankees and red sox have tea after each and every game, they never brawl or have on-field shenanigans. Look, you are entitled to your opinion but don’t pass it off as a undisputed fact
“Boston is in no position to be getting pitchers tossed. Melancon was wild and overthrowing. There was zero intent. 28 pitches and 12 of them balls. Not including the bad pitches that Boston swung at.”
I swoon when I see sensible discourse because it seems to be almost nonexistent here at times.
to think that he might plunk someone is far from impossible
LOL The NESN guys didn’t understand the people with the 1918 shirts. Maybe because david roidtiz and manless ramirez were the main reason why they won those titles.
Smoltz has electric stuff!
Keep running him out there, Francona.
He’s a HOF !
He’ll come around eventually.
Peter Gammons is never wrong.
(hey as a Yankee fan, don’t you want Smoltz to keep starting?)
