I watched your live thing yesterday. Good work Pete, I still don’t see how they think that Mitre is a better option than Towers. Who seems to me to be better than Mitre or Igawa. Guess thats why cashman gets the big bucks and not me

Hey Pete saw you on Mussina’s Yankeeography last night…congratulations.

  3. Stateman52 August 6th, 2009 at 12:26 pm

I did too. You were very good on the Mussina Yankeeography. You have a future as a reality show host.

  4. Al from BK August 6th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

I think that Towers would be better than Mitre. I could be alone in this thinking, but he had a big year in 2005 and what’s to say he can’t at least be serviceable.

I know no one wants to hear this, but Mitre earned himself another start.

    1. He kept the team in the game (well, sorta even though he left with the Sox up)

    2. Take out the 4 consecutive 2-out hits that plated two runs…still looks bad, but…

    3. We ended up winning the game.

    4. Using him in his next start won’t require a 40-man move.

I keep hearing Cash will keep his ear to the waivers situation and probably pick up another pitcher – any ideas of who might be available??

  7. bloggy mcblogblog August 6th, 2009 at 12:31 pm

I just saw David Ortiz walking down the Avenue of the Americas. He was picking up loose papers off the ground. He said he was looking for his test results.

  8. Wait till they come to OUR house AGAIN August 6th, 2009 at 12:33 pm

He did NOT earn another start. Sorry, I totally disagree. He just cemented why we shouldn’t use. He went less than five innings! If he had stayed any longer he would have given up 6 runs.

We need to pick somebody up off of waivers.

  9. L to the 2nd August 6th, 2009 at 12:33 pm

I saw him carrying a three wood – I think he’s in OJ’s foursome today.

  10. L to the 2nd August 6th, 2009 at 12:34 pm

Mitre’s done – as soon as they can acquire a warm body not named Kei Igawa or Russ Ortiz…

  11. m August 6th, 2009 at 12:36 pm

I’m sorry, I didn’t mean that he earned it or deserved another start as a reward. Just meant that he did just enough to avoid the pink slip.

But unless they sign someone in the next 4 days, I think he makes his next start.

  12. Wait till they come to OUR house AGAIN August 6th, 2009 at 12:38 pm

m-So you’re saying he’s making it by default?

    That I do agree with.

  13. CountryClub August 6th, 2009 at 12:38 pm

His next start will be against Halladay. Yikes…

  14. Erica - always OPPC August 6th, 2009 at 12:38 pm

I think Mitre pitches again too (unless someone else is acquired).

Its also worth noting that he wasn’t really permitted to get into trouble last night. He was on a remarkably short leash. Girardi yanked him as soon as they started hitting him hard in thr 5th. If Girardi didn’t do that, it could have imploded

  15. m August 6th, 2009 at 12:39 pm

The bar has been set pretty low for Mitre, and he’s still barely able to clear it.

But they needed someone to take the ball. He has a horrible WHIP and hasn’t given them innings. But, we’ve won 75% of his starts (can you say small sample size?). Maybe he’s our lucky charm? :)

  16. Shame Spencer August 6th, 2009 at 12:40 pm

Everyone is talking about aquiring someone else or getting someone else the ball every fifth day. Who, realistically, could this mystery pitcher be?

  17. Wait till they come to OUR house AGAIN August 6th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

I’ve heard Duchscherer and Valverde mentioned.

  18. Erica - always OPPC August 6th, 2009 at 12:43 pm

I have also heard Garland as a possibility to hit waivers

  19. hardwired August 6th, 2009 at 12:45 pm

I believe you could make the case that Mitre vs. Halladay would be the biggest mismatch in the history of baseball.

  20. jdawg27 August 6th, 2009 at 12:47 pm

    CountryClub

    Halladay is pitching on Sunday…

  21. Shame Spencer August 6th, 2009 at 12:47 pm

Garland? Really? Hadnt heard that one, thanks guys. Man I miss Moose…

  22. NitO LiNk August 6th, 2009 at 12:48 pm

Hey, what would you guys say the chances are of getting some reasonably priced tickets on gameday saturday? I’d be there reeeeeally early. I ask because in the past I’ve been able to get them on the day of the game (pretty good seats, too), but I’ve never tried when it was BOS/NYY. Also, I think you guys would be of help since I have yet to attend a game at TNYS and many (if not all of you have).

    Thanks in advance

“I believe you could make the case that Mitre vs. Halladay would be the biggest mismatch in the history of baseball.”

…And yet if Mitre had pitched vs. Halladay two days ago, when Halladay gave up five runs (4 ER, but we did score five off of him) we actually would have won the game.

  24. anonymous August 6th, 2009 at 12:50 pm

Saturday’s forecast for the Bronx not looking so great…

  25. Wait till they come to OUR house AGAIN August 6th, 2009 at 12:50 pm

NitO LiNk-Good luck trying to get tickets to this series. This is arguably the most hyped up series of the year.

  26. pat August 6th, 2009 at 12:51 pm

Let Mitre pitch. Everyone knows Halladay can’t pitch in the Homerdome that is the new Yankee Stadium.

  27. Big Sky Yankee August 6th, 2009 at 1:06 pm

Just what i needed. I have 6 hours to kill until the game. :)

  28. Stateman52 August 6th, 2009 at 4:42 pm

Grab a Big Mac Snack Wrap. They are good.
