Game 109: Red Sox at Yankees, Part III
We go to extra innings at 0-0. Just a terrific game.
Alfredo Aceves in to pitch for the Yankees.
UPDATE, 10:31 p.m.: Walking Chris Woodward in a 0-0 game with two outs? Alfredo, Alfredo. 19 walks in two nights. Not good.
UPDATE, 10:36 p.m.: Ramon Ramirez to face Cano, Hairston and Cabrera.
UPDATE, 10:45 p.m.: Jeter with a chance to be a hero. Would they dare pie him?
UPDATE, 10:53 p.m.: No pie for you, Derek.
Yankees and Red Sox in extra innings scoreless for the first time since May of 1976.
UPDATE, 11:00 p.m.: Nice work by Alfredo Aceves, two scoreless innings. Damon, Tex and the overdue A-Rod to face Papelbon in the 11th.
UPDATE, 11:09 p.m.: Well, the bad news is that this game refuses to end. The good news for the Yankees is that Papelbon is probably finished.
UPDATE, 11;20 p.m: The two bullpens thus far: 8.1 innings. 3 hits, 0 runs, 10 Ks.
Brian Bruney warming up. That’s apparently it for Aceves.
UPDATE, 11:29 p.m.: Another shot for the Yankees. Melky with runners on first and second and two down. Yankees 0-8 with RISP.
Ironic if the Red Sox lost because of walks.
UPDATE, 11:32 p.m.: Where’s Luis Castillo when you need him?
Brian Bruney in to pitch. We haven’t seen much of him lately.
UPDATE, 11:39 p.m.: Bruney gets it done. Back to the top of the order for the bottom of the lucky 13th inning.
UPDATE, 11:45 p.m.: Jeter 1 for 11 in the series.
UPDATE, 11:50 p.m.: Alex with another shot to end it.
UPDATE, 11:54 p.m.: Going to the next thread. Part IV.

Go Yanks!
No pie for jorge
Let’s go Yankees!! We can’t waste this kind of pitching performance!
Alright ace.
I guess the gods are jonesing for a Melky walk off. I sure hope he’s up this inning…
jerry hairston jr walk-off
Hip Hip….
That was the opportunity right there.
the 3rd thread ha awesome
That was an awful AB by Jorge. That was such a bad pitch.
Please god let Ace do the job.
Do you guys think that Girardi’s banking on using Mitre if needed? That’s the only thing that makes sense to me.
this game is giving me an ulcer
now I’m nervous
Aceves must saveus
Yanks really need to score in the 10th
dont want to drag this out too long!
What could have been a nice short game may turn into another 4 hour game.
Look on the brightside-
I am ready to post the updated “Guess the Line Up” standings when the game ends!
“jerry hairston jr walk-off”
That works.
Where is MO? Posada needs to see an eye doctor…
Melky: “I collect walk-off shots”
Did you hear Posada yelling to Ace to go to 1st? LOL!
Anybody else in?
If the Yanks walk-off:
Nick – will eat Ramen
Dave – will run 3 miles on treadmill
RDM – will cry himself to sleep (sorry RDM
)
I don’t think this is the best spot for Aceves but hopefully he gets 3 outs and a chance to win in the 10th.
What is Joe doing w/ the pen…i guess we are saving Mo and Hughes for tomorrow.
We will probably see Bruney next inning if we get there.
dont’ let this guy pull it
aceves don’t get cute
“Where is MO? Posada needs to see an eye doctor…”
With two strikes, facing Bard’s heater, Jorge had little chance but to swing at anything that looks close. I’m sure he’s kicking himself.
If this team could lay down a bunt…we’d all be having beer and celebrating beating Beckett
how many threads are there going to be?
tough hop
but Cano makes it look easy
GOLD GLOVE!
way to keep the ball down Aceves
that was not an easy play for Cano but he made it look so easy.
if you would stop posting I wouldn’t have to read what you have to say
“close” the ball almost bouced before home plate. Actually, the ball bounced, hit posada below the knee and he swung. If he didn’t swing would have been a HBP, watch the replay
I was fine till the bottom of the ninth. Now, I’ve got butterflies and shaky hands. Not good. It’s just a game, fercryinoutloud!
Aceves is in a good position pitching against the bottom of the order…and I agree…the Melkman will deliver in the bottom of the inning…AJ better get the pie ready!!
BD,
If the Yankees get a walkoff, Kei Igawa is my favorite player. YES! I said it! I’m gambling!
Ignore the idiot.
Doreen,
this is just practice for the playoffs
If a ball bounces and hits you that is a HBP (unless you swing…see Posada)
come on its chris woodward
Aces game to win or lose
This is why God created Xanax
Why the hell did Aceves do that?
When the Yankees win this one goes in the Yankee Classics vault.
Furthermore, ball is lying there, Posada stands there and gets tagged out…why didn’t he run to first base?
that walk is bad
throw the darn fastball
its chris woodward
you’ve got to be kidding me
real nervous now that he’s missing w/ the breaking ball.
It seriously has been a nice experience watching the majority of the game without posting (no comments necessary) and so I haven’t been following what people have been saying. I can only hope that there was no whining or complaining about anything in this game. This is one of the best-played games I have remembered watching ever. You’d have to be playing with half a deck to find anything wrong in this game.
JMO
Later
Back to congratulate our Yanks for the win. How’s that for confidence!
Come on guys, that pitch wasn’t even close. That started well out of the zone and stayed well out of the zone.
It was Posada being overanxious, trying to do too much, again, that caused that result. Matsui spit on a few of those pitches, it’s not impossible to do so. However, Posada was getting himself out that at bat.
He’s been dreadful in the late inning this year other than that walk off hit off of Fuentes, where the whole ballpark knew what pitch was coming.
Can’t walk Woodward.
BD-
I save this for special occasions, but what the heck…
If the Yankees win I will run around the blog naked
Ellsbury will eventually get a hit he’s too good…damn walks just kill
Hmmm, the ramen promise was more Okijima/Matsui specific.
I have no idea what to promise for Cano/Swisher/Melky.
If Aceves is the winning pitcher I’ll go to a taqueria, how’s that?
0-2 to Woodard and Ace walks him…you wonder about this team
Does anyone have Monistat to send Youklis? I feel bad for the guy. The itching was obviously bothering him in 9th innings.
Someone on a serious note however is going to have to explain to me why, now, that the Yankees acquired Hairston and have Hinske on the bench, Girardi didn’t pitch-run for Matsui in the 7th inning if he’s going to hit-and-run.
Girardi increasingly HAS NOT been pinch-running for Matsui in late-innings. Now that the Yankees have a benck, I can’t fathom why?
killer for either team to lose this one…but i’d rather see the sux suffer, of course.
cmon Aceves
Walking the 9 hitter in a 0-0 game in extras.
That’s Posada behind the plate for you though. 0-2 count, nibble nibble nibble nibble and oh look, a walk!
0-2 on the guy, he’s the 9 hitter for a reason, GO AFTER HIM.
Up 0-2, and lose him on 4 balls. Sad face, Alfredo. Sad face.

Doreen,
this is just practice for the playoffs
***
I am a nervous wreck during the playoffs. It gets ugly
Matt:
SHUT UP!
Come on Ace !
Yanks Walk-Off List
Nick – eats Ramen
Me – run 3 miles
CM – Kei Igawa is fave player
Erica – will run around the blog naked
SJ44 – will send me some of Tony’s signing bonus
there you go..come on!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is not good
Nick – taqueria/Ramen*
he’s missing w/ his breaking ball
Not good….bring in Bruney…wait never mind!
Come on Duece..I mean Ace.
Why only 1 inning from Mo and how do you walk Woodward?
Oh, lord, here we go.
this has that playoff feel… October is going to be fun
Pedroia…this is just not good
game over…blame this game on no fundementals
please get this guy out
You can not walk Woodward. Unbelievable!
Game over.
Aceves you can do it
and Ace walking the 9th batter on 0-2 count
If we lose this game, the blame falls squarely on Girardi for not saving Mo for the 10th inning
Not good.
I can totally see a double steal attempt. The Sox are going to try to get Posada to make an errant throw to 3B and allow a run to score on an error.
BD 2.0
There is some back up story to that statement-
During the 1996 world series after game 2, the Yanks were down 0-2 and no one thought they had any prayer. I was in CVS or something and a male and female employee were talking about the Yankees. The guy said the Yanks will still win. The girl said, “no way”. She then said, “If the Yankees win, I will run aroudn this store naked”
To this day I wonder if he made her do it
WOW.
Alfredo is not Fredo!
I wasn’t worried
all right…good pitching there guy
phewww
did he catch it?
The little elf would have 3 doubles if this game was at Fenway.
NAIL
BITER
Phew.
Come on boys, I can’t take this all night. Win it or lose it.
DID HE CATCH IT? I CAN’T LOOK!
Yes Great Job ! Lets Go !
more game over cries…
dont you know the Yanks are undefeated this season when LoHud bloggers declare “game over” either in the 1st inning or in a 0-0 game?
Thank you. The sound of that nearly made me *beep* in my pants.
Phew, that was a relief.
And…The Rangers DFA-ed Padilla. He’s pitched really well in stretches this season. Pick him up!
And he escapes!
BD – I don’t want to feel left out – if the Yanks win I’ll chase Erica around the blog.
Oh my……whew that was close.
WAKE UP OFFENSE. LETS GO!
Did that ball cause anyone else’s heart to plummet into their stomach off the bat? I thought for sure it was gone.
Phew. We dodged one there
Thank you ace! now please stop walking guys with 2 outs, especially #9 hitters.
RDM, even a broken clock is right twice a day, you bring stupdity to new heights.
Oh yeah, Ace is a total genious. He walked Woodward so that Ellsbury wouldn’t be leading off if there was a 10th inning.
time for Cano walk off
Erica,
That’s funny. I hope she stuck to her promise.
If the yankees have a walk off win, I will do a Nick Swisher summer sault
game over? ha remember when the season was over, I even think I heard talk of the franchise coming crashing down

RDM -
you are fundamentally stoopid. Shuddup already
BD 2.0
I’m gonna need Xanax for the playoffs. I think my mom has some extra!
RDM,
You know nothing about me.
How you acquired the basic skills to post on this blog is mind-boggling.
I’m too old for this.
I’m putting this as a loss for the Yankees and go to sleep now.
hairston makes an impression on the rivalry with a deep drive?
And I wonder where that CVS is Erica and if she still works there, whether you’d give me directions.
Isn’t it obvious that Pedroia’s swing is tailor-made for Fenway? He keeps hitting these high flyballs to LF that would be doubles or homeruns in Boston.
Start a rally, Cano.
Wish we hadn’t let him get away. But Chacon was key down the stretch.
One thing to consider:
1) If we win, we still have mo and phil avaialble for tomorrow
2) If we lose, follow #1.
How about some AURA and MYSTIC revisited!! C’mon Yanks!!!
Erica-
Thanks for the story. I wonder if she did?
Come on guys… just one run! Just one pop fly to HR!
Posted this at the end of the last thread, but here it is again. I think it’s pretty cool.
The last time the Yankees went into extras in a scoreless tie vs. the S*x, according to YES, was May 22, 1976. That is the day I was born.
Yankees won 1-0 in the 11th. Catfish Hunter went the whole way.
http://www.baseball-reference......5220.shtml
With both Melky and Swisher being hot right now the yankees have a truly circular line up.
The bottom of the yankee’s line up is now much better than the bottom of the sox line up.
Let’s hope that marginal gap makes a difference.
the Yankees have hit Ramirez pretty well this year.
This is good. Cano is best with the bases empty.
(Relax, I am joking)
Not Xanax, Trish because then you won’t remember the game. You want Clonazepam or Ativan.
The thing I love about our lineup in this ballpark is that every single hitter has a chance to end this thing with one swing.
Lets Go !!!!!
now i smell a wo hr
Walks do nothing for us. We can’t get clutch hits anyway so they will be stranded. Someone hit a HR and end this.
over under innings played I am setting it at 12….over under??
any chance yanks claimed alex rios?
Nothing but fastballs on the outer half to lefties.
I feel like this is the inning… so –
Yanks Walk-Off List
Nick – eats taqueria/Ramen
Me – run 3 miles
CM – Kei Igawa is fave player
Erica – will run around the blog naked
DT – will chase Erica around blog
Pete – you in?
Hairston Jr walkoff… Carl’s Jr. meal?
That’s not so great.
will cano walk…no way..he never walks..
Who pitches the 11th… Bruney?

This was the 1996 World Series, so I am guessing both employees are gone. But I wish I went back to find out. Somehow I doubt she did it. But that story always makes me laugh. Just goes to show, you should always be prepared to lose a bet
kill.schill(ing)
Most on the blog thought Joe did the right move. As evidence, Matsui batted in the 9th.
I would have pinch-run so that there would have be no bottom of the 9th. Not criticism just different.
I think Joe waits until he gets to second to pinch-run. Dont know why.
HINSKEEEEE
HINSKEEEEE
CB, any chance the Yankees consider picking up Padilla (yes I know Tex hates him) or Smoltz?
By the way, I’m it was the Tigers who claimed Rios.
under – its over this inning
he does not walk
he does not walk
Hey Ramirez now would be a good time for that retaliation, dont ya think?
come on hinske
why would you take the defense out at this time?
is hinske that much better thaan harston? He has tons of power…but
The Who! Channeling Paulie and Tino.
Wait, is that Paul O’Neill’s Music!
Thanks Tarheelyak, I just got home.
All heaters in that AB. Isn’t Ramirez a changeup artist?
Hinske, I will clean your jockstrap if you hook one over the wall.
If Hinske does this I swear not to listen to Pat Benatar for 1 year.
Hinske with your best shot!! I NEED to hear it!!
Hairston will pinch hit next inning for A-Rod.
The Offense has gone to sleep.
Spare Aceves from VMart.
Hinske going deep?
“is hinske that much better thaan harston? He has tons of power…but”
———-
if it works out, great
but I questioned the move too – Hairston is good on D and has been fine with the bat
they dont necessarily need a HR!!
If Hinske comes through, will you folks chip in with me to get him a Monument Park plaque?
“Hinske, I will clean your jockstrap if you hook one over the wall.”
quoted
kill.schill -
that was me with the Xanax – this blog sure is a source of unexpected information!
rios was released/put on waivers?
i know they want papelbon to be able to save a potential Boston lead, but why is he not in here? ramirez just hit the grass
Wasn’t the Who’s “Teenage Wasteland” one of the songs Paul O’Neill used to have played when he came to bat?
“why would you take the defense out at this time?”
I’m wondering that too. I’m wondering about a few of GI Joes moves tonight.
I need to trust the manager.
It’s actually called “Baba O’Reilly”. Not Teenage Wasteland
We do need a HR… doesn’t look like the type of game where a team will be able to string together hits.
Joe has been truly “clueless tonight”
melky melky melkyy…However I smell double play
Wasn’t Ramon Ramirez a Yankee few years ago?
do you PR Pena?
melky cabrera at the plate……..
Tampa Rays staying hot
they are getting to King Felix this time!
come on Melky
How fast is Hinske? All we’ve seen is a HR trot.
Sorry, Doreen, but you’re welcome.
There’s another baserunner…COME ON MELKY!
melky “i eat walkoffs for breakfast” cabrera!!!
Can Melky actually do it again????
Melky Time!!
Hinske wanted to swing…but Ramon wouldn’t groove one for him.
I will not eat peanuts and give stupid interviews to B level porn stars for 2 years!
Everything Ramirez is throwing is away, away ,away.
man, my heart jumped on that Melky swing
he went for it
Ok, Melky is a walkoff run-line-covering specialst!
Rios claimed on waivers – no one knows to whom.
I don’t rule Yanks out yet, but methinks Chicago WS.
i am sensing 4-6-3
What does “In late inning pressure” constitute?
Baba O’Riley, and yes, it was Paul’s song.
Out here in the fields
I fight for my meals
I get my back into my living.
I don’t need to fight
To prove I’m right
I don’t need to be forgiven.
yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah
That was Paul.
Who’s pitching the 11th?
The only move I question is not leaving Hughes in for 2. Because this game looks like it could go on forever.
Okay so Melky can’t hit into a dp.
Come on Melk!
Hinske to second.
COME ON BOYS!
now i bring in pena for a score on a single
you have to PR Pena now
o very nice wild pitch
boy I would love rios on the yankees
DOUG– put on waivers is different from being released. A lot of teams put players on waivers after the trade deadline and nothing ever happens.
Giambi was released today for instance, that didn’t happen to Rios — he’s still on the Jays.
Nice…Man on second…come on Melky!!
Is anyone else forgetting to breathe???
thank you ramirez – stretch those legs out hinske
Now PR Pena.
Just a single!
Pena run
Come on! ramirez cant throw strikes
shouldnt it be time to have Pena come in now?
Come on Melky, destiny set up that WP.
Pinch run Pena. let him play of
Is Hinske a fast runner?
More importantly, can Hinske score from second?
Could this be the break we need? Hinske needs to be towed home.
Takes away the DP, though.
Why CWS if they already have Dye?
productive out, now put it away captain let’s gooo
I want to see Jeter get pied!
I want to see Jete take a pie
Jeter is so due for a walkoff.
Come On Jetah!
Jeter up again with a chance to redeem himself. Lets see if Jeter can take a pie like a man.
pie for JETER?
jeter is clutch?
The Captain gets another chance! Do they walk him?
Man, if Jeter gets a hit – he gets pied.
Derek Jeter will swing at the first pitch…and get a base hit
I would love to win on a wild pitch. Or another balk.
chance to win it here for Jetes.
Or maybe just another wild pitch, I’ll take in anyway possible.
here comes Papelbon.
Come on Captain Clutch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wild pitch?
papelbum is on!!!
Jeets is long due tonight.
Will Captain Clutch return to Captain Clutch form?
Papelbon against Jeter… winning run on 3rd.
What a great game.
thats what I thought..thanks for clearing that up…
Classic…just classic!
Let’s Go Yanks!!!!
Captain vs. Papelbon in the 10th with 2 outs and man on 3rd – does it get any better?
Jetes vs Papelbon Rd.1 DING DING!
If someone promises to buy a Ford Edge if Jeter gets the hit, I’m going to have to say “show me.”
I’ve been to Indiana. I can do that.
oh great !
Come on Derek beat that punk !
-Stands on Desk-
O CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!
The Captain facing Papelbon with two out, bottom of the tenth. Great match-up.
Francona out manages Girardi for the 9th time this season…amazing…
UPDATE, 10:45 p.m.: Jeter with a chance to be a hero. Would they dare pie him?
***
Of course, you don’t mess with tradition!
Cmon Jeter wipe that smug look off this clowns face!
Pimplebutt will own Jeter.
Come on Jeets, get your pie!
Im calling wild pitch also
Ohhhhh yeah.
Papelbutt vs. Jeter
Francona ain’t messing around. Who does he have left besides Delcarmen?
this has been the best game of the year, what a classic.
“Why CWS if they already have Dye?”
————
more for next season and beyond
they lose Dye and Thome, both big contracts, next year and a few others…
the Peavy trade, IMO, is more for next season and beyond as well. You dont trade for a big name guy who might not be back until Sept for this season.
NO way does Jeter win it. His clutchness has been dead and buried for two years now.
Great game. Jeter is due for a hit against that brat
Oh Captain My Captain
first pitch, Jeter hits opposite field single
This pitching change would be a great time for a haiku….
Here’s a chance for Jeter to eat pie. Never thought I would see it.
On the desk too, Tom.
AJ is so hoping this happens right now
I wonder if Jeter could lay down a bunt. Catch them sleeping
Unorthodox move to bring Jekyljohn here. I can’t decide whether it benefits Jeter in this at-bat and/or the Yankees in the long-run.
Lets Go !
I think white sox have salary relief next season, and they’ve been searching for a CF for awhile now.
Not that Rios is a CF, but he play play that role.
Just wouldn’t put it past Kenny Williams.
Jeter’s face was built for pie!
Papelbon has not been the same guy he was in the past.
His control in particular has not been nearly as good.
Jeter needs to be patient here.
Saito, Delcarmen, Tawzwa left for Boston.
Bruney, Coke, Melancon, Robertson left for NY.
I would like nothing more than to walk-it-off against papelbon, i despise him
I am calling a wild pitch walk-off. Its the only thing that would make sense in a game where pitching dominates hitting every time with RISP.
People, Boston just has better depth pitching than we do….and Girardi blew it twice by not bunting this game
Nothing would be sweeter than a game winner from Jeter.
Nick, that was classic. lmao
Make Pap cry Jeet!
Be patient Jeter… wait for a wild pitch.
I hate the Zoolander Blue Steel stare!
walk off papelbum
Derek is due for a hit.
First pitch curve, be ready!
Jeter will win it.
Papelbon blows it again.
Yankees humble Sox.
My haiku.
If it happens on a wild pitch, I will watch this all the way through:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....38;index=0
maybe Brian Bruney will end up being the star of the game?
Vegas odds on that one are 750-1
This will likely be a Yankee Classic if they win.
this is tense
watch the splitter
Need that inside out swing for a single and a win!!
Papelbon is throwing heat… don’t think Jeter has a chance.
Jeter
0-2 not much good can come of this
Jeter overmatched….
pass ball
Captain K
Why does YES keep showing us Beckett?
They have shown us more shots of Beckett than of the actual game.
Who the hell is RDM? You’re gross.
way to fight
great analysis by Kay
fight back capn!
concerned about our remaining pitchers…
RDM has cried himself to sleep 66 times this season
coincidentally, the Yanks have 66 wins
let’s make tonight #67
Jeter’s last walk off was 2007? He’s due
I swear Jeter I won’t soil the images of any of your ex-girlfriends for at least 2 months.
smell base hit
Jeter no hits in the series so far…..
Looked like he was going to slice that one down the right field line…
Derek looks late but then again he goes to right field
Boston sucks !
“I swear Jeter I won’t soil the images of any of your ex-girlfriends for at least 2 months.”
———
nice
Who comes in next?
Coke?
M
Jeter had a hit last night
blue steel! ha!
The Captain doesn’t like pie.
Papelbon missed badly too
yikes
man
INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
darn
Dang !
Dammit Beavis!!
damn this is crazy…lets get a run please
::facepalm::
This game is never going to end, is it?
So close………..
bah jeter does it again
97 down the middle…Ace in extras
gahhhhhh, we are never getting outta here
Shadow of himself
Okay, who’s coming in now?
Damn. Damn. Damn.
I don’t care who wins or loses at this point. I can’t take any more of this!
i can’t stand boston. ughhh
Jeter doesn’t like pie.
We may still have a chance if Ace (or whoever’s pitching) can hold them here…
I’m not going to lie, it’s ramen I’ve wanted the whole time.
Well, I’ve never been much of a poet, obviously.
uh oh ooops and gosh darn
damn, they dont want to go away. The redsucks are so pesky.
I would guess Coke pitches the 11th, I don’t like the Aceves-Martinez matchup at all.
why can’t the yanks seal the deal ?
Freaking Jeter has done nothing this series
I do not have a good feeling w/ Aceves this inning.
Jeter has had his chances today
Well that sucked. And we have to face Papelbon in the bottom of the 11th too.
I would bring Aceves out for another inning.
yanks BP will hold on? If sox scores next inning, Yanks are done.
HUGE question mark
I think Bruney is next…Then Robertson??? Then Mitre
Jeter fails!… not been clutch lately
“I don’t care who wins or loses at this point. I can’t take any more of this!”
———–
I’ll stay up all night for a Yanks win here!!
of course I’d really prefer next inning – Damon, Tex, ARod
Jetes LOL…way overmatched there….wait A Rod coming up in the 11th down by a couple…time for 4th beer
Something to watch for now – Hinske isn’t a good right fielder. And Aceves is a fly ball pitcher.
Time for a wild ride. Hang on tight…(or it could end quick and painlessly)
Boston is going to win this game. You waste these many opportunities, it will come back to bite you.
just to think ahead, if we play the 12th inning, who are the pitchers?
pat,
Let’s hope Damon likes “Boston Creamed Pie”.
“Something to watch for now – Hinske isn’t a good right fielder. And Aceves is a fly ball pitcher.”
———–
yes, but did you HAVE to mention it???
why still Ace thats terrible
OMG! End this as a Yankee classic please!! Perhaps an A-Rod homer?
Man, this is killing me. This must be killing our bullpen, too.
Jason, never blame the haiku.
The form is perfect in its simplicity; it’s humanity that fails.
“why still Ace thats terrible”
————–
looked terrible there to VMart
wow, Ace did a great job on Martinez there.
YANKEE CLASSIC!! it has had that feel the whole game! lets end it that way! come on YANKS!
I know its not been long, but Martinez hasn’t been the amazing trade they expected so far.
Girardi crying in his beer
If the yanks can win this game thing will look exceptional tomorrow.
Buchholz gives the Sox very little length.
And they’ve once again burned through their pen this week.
“I think Bruney is next…Then Robertson??? Then Mitre”
D-Rob then Melancon, then Bruney if it gets there.
Or we could go 7 innings w/ Ace if it gets there.
Aceves has good stuff tonight.
If I was a masochist, I might count the number of predictions that the Yankees were about to lose the game. I’m not, so I won’t.
I’ll just say that those making them are pathetic.
David Roidtiz !
can Pete start a complaint counter for game threads?
it would be SUPER interesting to see how many complaints there on any given night
Don’t know the numbers but I think Jeter numbers this year with RISP hasn’t been as good as his career.
I think he’s below .300
remember the over under innings played is 12….
attention all jumpers! the frisson is even better if you imagine that this is game 7 of the alcs!
wow Tex you are the man
why is he pitching to Ortiz
gotta love the glove
I FLOVE YOU TEIX!
great inning, Ace, super.
Tex is a wizard at 1st.
Nice Ace!
Nice play, Tex!
Now PLEASE score a run!
TEX!!!!
let’s end it here
Damon, Tex, ARod
Pap is ripe for a WALK-OFF
That’s why they call him ace.
Now kick their ass, DAMON!
Did I ever tell you guys how much I love Teixeira?
Thank goodness that was quick!
Johnny is going to get that walk off I predicted a really long time ago, now
Ace may be able to go another since his pitch count is not bad
Giambi makes that play no prob…
Mail him the gold glove now..999
history has a good chance of repeating itself – YES announcers mentioned earlier that in 1976, first year of old stadium Yanks won 1-0 against the Sox in the 11th inning.
Yanks bring in a run now and they win 1-0 in the 11th in first year of the new stadium. Kinda freaky if it happens…
m,
he has the same birthday as me
that’s gotta be it
Paplebon vs A Rod…LOL…like Nolan Ryan pitching to my 12yr old…no chance
Tex is MVP for his glove alone
Ca we please score a run now? Let’s go boys
We are so fortunate that Cash talked Hal into springing for one more big signing last winter – Tex.
These teams cannot play anything less than a 4 hour game. Its unbelievable
If the Yankees are going to win, I feel like this is the inning.
Damon, Tex, and Arod are up and all three have done nothing tonight. At least one of them is due for a big hit.
i’m pretty sure Jeter is over .300 with runners in scoring position this season…
Arod walkoff?
Come on, Damon,please!!!
m
Tex does. There’s a lovely little bakery on Newbury Street that makes them.
Teixeira is right there with Mattingly defensively at first, to me. The guy is tremendous, and clutch.
honestly, if hte Sox lose this game…
how much is that gonna hurt??
it would hurt the Yanks too, but it would crush the Sox
God, I detest Youklis.
You know, in all honesty, in the day, I dreaded Ortiz’s and Manny’s at-bats but I never abhorred them.
I positively despise Youklis.
My God is Teixiera a great 1st baseman. Can anyone make an argument that Mattingly was better? It’s been a while since I watch Mattingly but I never remember the flair Tex brings to it.
geez, what a fxxking game

“why still Ace thats terrible”
————–
looked terrible there to VMart
Or V-Mart is just terrible
It would be such great theater if ARod could hit a walk of tater vs Papelbum. Please let it happen!
“We are so fortunate that Cash talked Hal into springing for one more big signing last winter – Tex.”
It was a franchise altering move. It cannot be underestimated.
He’s the difference between the yanks and sox.
Bring Pena in for A-Rod!
That was a quick inning, no?
BD 2.0,
not really, remember yanks won that classic game in 04 regular season?
Got win this inning because Bruney is next.
I can’t decide whether I should root for a quick homerun, or if I should root for Papelbon to struggle and throw 30 pitches before giving up a run.
Making him work would benefit the Yankees tomorrow, but I can’t stand the suspense!
does paps pitch 2 innings that much on the road?
i need a walk-off now, no more playing around.
Can Pete ban someone for being a moron or do they actually have to say something inappropriate and such

Oh me too!!!
Come on Johnny!!!!! Do it for me
Papelbon has a high WHIP. Be patient. Do not hack.
Oh great, we have a Nostradumba$$ Jr. in the world. Heaven help us all.
“That was a quick inning, no?”
————–
doreen,
just what Aceves needed.
a 7 pitch inning!
don’t count on A-Rod, let JD do the job
Papelbon is throwing very hard but pulling every pitch, it makes you think either Damon or Teix can get him.
It feels like it’s about 2 in the morning.
Yankee pitching has been spectacular.
An Arod walk off against Papelsmear would of course be delicious. But at this point just get a run Yanks!
what a game
Imagine if this game came down to Robertson vs. Tazawa.
that was a good pitch to hit
ace pitching next inni9ng if there is one
Bruney is next? wow…this scares me
Crossing your fingers actually works. Crossing both hands fingers and then crossing the crossed fingers really works. I used to do it during the world series dynasty years. Good results.
come on !
“Imagine if this game came down to Robertson vs. Tazawa.”
I bet it will.
Top of the 14th
FINALLY! SUCH A GREAT WIN!!!!!!!!!!
DAMN!
oh man
that sounded great off the bat!
darn
that was not even close to goin..lol very antsy fans
False Alarm.
So close…Right field Tex, right field.
Sterling just gave me a heart attack. Damn him!
ughh even tex was like come on what do I have to do
Bad AB Tex
That got me out of my chair…
I never saw Paps eyes get that big
Oh, John Sterling, you C-tease.
I have a headache. I want to go to bed.
I am listening to sterling he screamed it is high it is far. it is caught..he drives me crazy
Loud out…
That one was torched.
end the streak at 70 Alex!
Why did he hack at the first pitch? Work Papelbon and draw a walk.
A-Rod will be struck out swing
They have been unable to turn on hard FBs.
Will A Rod even make contact?? LOL
take it the other way alex
“FINALLY! SUCH A GREAT WIN!!!!!!!!!!”
———————-
Sterlinged?
You know A-Rod is due…
was it close or was sterling way off again…
Come on buddy, ARod needs these moments
Papelbon is only at 13 pitches
hold up Who is Brian Bruney is next?
LOL! STERLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111
I will watch “Raising Helen” 3 times !
“was it close or was sterling way off again…”
———
it sounded like a HR off the bat
but it was to dead center and not that close
well hit though
I can’t take much more of this. And I really need a shower. I am stinky!
Sterlinged?
LMAO
This is perfectly set up for Arod to hit a walkoff here.
70 ABs without a HR, and Papelbon on the mound.

That movie was really bad. Don’t do that to yourself!
sterling should not be allowed till yell untill the ball has landed over the fence…
These guys are late on everything, except Tex
I’m going to die. This game is going to kill me, for realz.
AL! Bring this b***h home!
a Yanks win = instant Yankee Classic
Even if they lose, I can’t be too unhappy……but I sense that some folks will be losing their heads.
Good. Keep Ace.
if we win this…. it’s absolutely devastating for them..
can someone end this !
Relax… Who is Brian Bruney will pitch the 12th inning
This game is making me hate baseball.
SHUT YOUR FIFTY POUND HEADED MOUTH KAY!
ACHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! LOVE IT!
arod…
“I can’t take much more of this. And I really need a shower. I am stinky!”
thanks for the warning. I’ll keep my chasing distance.
Arod fails !
Bring on the 12th!
FRAK!!
terrible those pitches were right there…I guess we have to rely on Melky for another walkoff
Gah. Heart of the lineup shooting blanks tonight.
Papelbon at just 16 pitches
they could send him out there again.
that was a nice fastball though
Boo on Papelbon.
Let’s go, another hold please.
Argh, this game is so frustrating. We need one more inning from Ace, but he’s going to start facing batters the second time through the order.
I would assume the fish is done pitching for tonight.
A Rod strikes out swinging…what a surprise…
Can’t catch up to hard stuff down the middle. Yankee hitters
BBruney up next?
Game over. Time to mail this one in.
At least we know we have a good chance to win tomorrow.
Papelbon only threw 16 pitches. He is good for another inning
Their pen is setting us down easily
Matsui to lead off and I’m going to get the kimchi ramen with a California roll to start. Dassit!
damn he was so aiming RF on that, atleast he’s not pulling.
games like this makes your hair turn gray faster
michael key is the worst, i am listening to sterling what is kay babbling about?
a combined total of 8 hits tonight
yikes!
ARod Sucks — period.
time for bruney?? no??
Cant blame ace if he gives one up now – Cant blame Joe either since I dont trust anyone in that bully either.
seriously, if we survive another half inning, the odds is on Yanks’ side. They just cannot let Pabapon pitch the next inning.
Olney saying White Sox most likely the team that claimed Rios.
Back to your regularly scheduled program.
Reminds me of that game against the Phillies… we had chance after chance in extras and didn’t capitalize, then they scratched out a run and won.
Nice to see the token Red Sox troll in Jeremy, lol.
When you keep the Red Sox off the board for 11 straight innings, you HAVE to score a run.
It’s not like they haven’t had their chances either tonight. Melky not bunting with 1st and 2nd, no outs in the 3rd was a crushing mistake, and Posada and Jeter had chances to end it and helped the Red Sox out by chasing.
come on
this is agonizing
oh man i hope bruney doesn’t come into the game.. it’ll be ugly.
ARod needs a new mistress.
“Argh, this game is so frustrating. We need one more inning from Ace, but he’s going to start facing batters the second time through the order.”
Why it’s nice to have a guy who throws 4 pitches in the pen.
JD Drew is scary in this situation as a lefty
I don’t think Kay has let the other announcers get a word in for 2 innings
over under was set at 12 by me…………
Wasn’t just ARod that choked that inning away. 3 in a row, heart of the line-up. Killer.
Ace living dangerously with Drew, there.
JD Drew shaved before this game, believe it or not.
what day is it?
he’s so scary he struck out!
Ace is the man, well, so far.
“Cant blame ace if he gives one up now – Cant blame Joe either since I dont trust anyone in that bully either.”
Me neither.. hey I’d go 5 innings w/ him if I could.
is it october already?
Oh Ace still in. What a warrior
Varitek bunting, now that’s funny
Varitek occasionally can hit a lucky hr.
melky needed to bunt, the only this is I doubt melky could have gotten the bunt down anyway, i would have rather seem him fail to bunt then ht into a double play.
. . . and here I go, cracking open a fresh bottle of wine.
Terry from NH August 7th, 2009 at 11:12 pm
he’s so scary he struck out!
Yes my comments are jinxing them so I will continue to spew nonsense
Is it me or should the Yankees have gotten more than 1 1/3 out of Hughes/Mo?
Come on Ace — JD Drew out. Varitek is bunting?
Are you trying to be funny?
varitek going for a bunt base hit? what?
varitek intangibly attempts the bunt, heads-up player that he is
Aceves pitching the 12th. Yankees still have: Melancon, Robertson, Coke, and Bruney.
There are 3 pretty good options there. To think that the S*x have a huge bullpen advantage at this point is silly, IMO.
That pitch right there Aceves struck JD Drew out on is the difference between a right handed pitcher who can start in the majors and one who is only a reliever.
That’s the kind of pitch you need to be able to get out left handed batters as a RH pitcher.
Just a beautiful fading change.
I think we have managaed over 2500+ comments just on these game threads.
Thats pretty darn impressive
“Oh Ace still in. What a warrior”
——–
they should stretch him out to be the #5
looks like his shoulder is fine
A catcher trying to bunt….tell SJ44 that…this game would have been over an hour a go if we knew what a bunt was
Christina
Is that Christina 25 ?
this is why good pitching is always more important than good hitting
Whoops wrong post.

ARod Sucks — period.

Nah, he blows.
Aceves is about to go through the Sox lineup very easily
so far, a monster effort from the Yanks pen
1 more out to go!
Whatever happens in this game – its been a terrific performance by Aceves. He’s almost fearless.
Hard to keep a guy with Aceves stuff in the bull pen if you need a 5th starter…
no wonder he had a sore arm
“Is it me or should the Yankees have gotten more than 1 1/3 out of Hughes/Mo?”
Think positive we have them tomorrow.
Hmmm…That K to Varitek wasn’t very tasty, as I saw it on Game Day first…
i am still annoyed by sterling yelling about tex’s fly ball i thought the game was over…
I admit I am nervous….
one more out, the odds is on Yankee side.
strike this joker out
this kid is swinging like a big boy
how long can he go…..
Don’t walk this scrub.
Time to remove Ace..done an outstanding job…..
Fans getting their money’s worth at the Stadium tonight.
RDM, you idiot…
Why didn’t Martinez bunt with 2 on and nobody out in the 1st inning?
Why didn’t Pedroia bunt with 2 on and nobody out in the 6th?
Same two situations as the Yankees, jerk.
Burnett was fantastic
but the pen didnt let up
Pen – 4 1/3, 2 hits, 0runs, 5k
nice!
ace IS the place!
Aceves for President!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ace is DA MAN!!!
Great performance by Aceves. This is what he does best.
Ace = Sin Miedo!
Mark. Ace.
Can’t praise them enough.
Aceves has been special
end this…..please!
Ace is dealing! But don’t make him pitch another inning. End the game NOW!
Can they finally win it ?
Aceves should be the number 5, use Gaudin against righties out of the pen to replace his spot, Gaudin destroys righties…awesome performance by Ace
I don’t want to see another yankee pitcher tonight, lets end it here
for all our complaining about the yankees hitting, have you guys ever seen a red sox team go this quietly at the plate..easy outs……i mean really easy quiet outs…they do not even threaten
walk-off…please…please…help me…
Yanks first 4 hitters…1 for 20…..
the Sox have to stick with Papelbon
let’s go Yanks!! end this
where is Aaron Boone when you need him?
Win it now, guys. Matsui, Posada, Cano sounds good to me.
They picked him up from the Mexican league.
He was waiting there for any team in baseball to sign.
And it was the yankees who went out, did the statistical analysis to find him, scouted him and signed him.
What a talent.
Someone score please.
cano walk off
That final out brought to you by:
-Hoover
-Dyson
-Kenmore

“Yanks first 4 hitters…1 for 20…..”

Mattingly was the best 1b I ever saw… but Tex is really growing on me.
He is really that good – or have I been watching Giambi too long?
Someday, the Yankees will win this game…
YOU CAN NOT TAKE ace out of the bullpen…his job is much more valuable as a reliever than a 5th starter…
I want to go to sleep
this is the best Aceves has thrown in about a month.
this is the perfect time to think about putting him in the rotation next week, he’s already pitched 3 innings tonight, he could go 5 in his first start.
Im calling a Cano HR to end this
hinske will hit the walk off.
how many runners did jeter leave out there tonight?
You can’t give up just 3 hits in 12 innings and not win the game. That’s something the Padres would do.
Someone is going to find RF soon!
Manny Delcarmen can give it up quick
New pitcher. Manny Delcarmon.
I swear if we walk off I’m buying a #91 jersey.
Delcarmen has struggled lately
I smell a walk-off
this time I mean it
Come on guys. Just one pop fly in the short porch!

You did watch Giambi for too long, but tex is really good. Almost Mattinglyesque
remember when we did not have ace during the angels series because he started against the twins…that series was disaster without him.
Matsu!!!
RDM
Who got the hit?
Maybe both, DT.
Why isin’t Tawaza in this game?
I think I’d be a lot more nervous if I were a fan of the team 3.5 games out.
I believe the Yankees will take this game. But even if they didn’t, what a spectacular game this has been.
Yankee bullpen 4 1/3 innings. 2 hits, 1 BB
If we win this game, that outing by Aceves will be huge.
matsui takes one to right and proves that he is fast enough to jog comfortably around the bases
Im getting light headed looking at my computer screen and my tv screen
The Red Sox really are going to have nothing in the pen tomorrow with Clay Buchholz pitching and giving them no length.
The opportunity cost of losing this game for them is enormous.
The yankees come back tomorrow with CC…
Bruney? Um please score.
Oh no… Who is Brian Bruney?
Oh great, Bruney warming up… win it now or Boston will.
oh god Bruney is warming up.
This game better end NOW or Bruney will end it the next inning.
“The Red Sox really are going to have nothing in the pen tomorrow with Clay Buchholz pitching and giving them no length.”
————
they’re going to have to go to Tazawa
and worry about their 5th starter later
it’s going to happen this inning
lol. Collective blog groan there.
CC will go 9 tomorrow…
“YOU CAN NOT TAKE ace out of the bullpen…his job is much more valuable as a reliever than a 5th starter…”
Agreed. The Yanks have come all this way with their #5 starters (Wang, Hughes, Mitre) winning just 4 wins combined.
Ace alone has 7 wins out of the bullpen, and has only been up here since May.
His ability to eat up innings while staying effective is what makes him so special. I would be fine with having Gaudin as the #5 starter.
“Why isin’t Tawaza in this game?”
b/c it’s a pennant race.
Has Bruney even pitched in like a week?
If we don’t win it here, this will be a painful loss.
I think Bruney is warming up just to scare the Yankee hitters into scoring a run. At least I hope that’s the only reason he’s warming up.
no bruney….anyone buy bruney…
“Manny Delcarmen can give it up quick”
True dat.
but bruny i mean
Po needs to make up for that horrendous strikeout before.
The bullpen is going to be toast tomorrow
They need to recall Claggett tomorrow, just to have a fresh arm here.
Jorge!!!
What are they talking about? I am a Yankee fan on Long Island. Pfft
oh boy what a game
I stayed home sick from work tonight. I was instructed by my friend to have a relaxing evening.

He almost swung at that junk!
Almost another embarrassing strikeout. Ugh… It’s still tense.
It’s amazing how many lefties the Yankees have sent out there, and none of them have found RF yet.
Why don’t they just bring in Pettitte or someone for an inning?
I am supposed to go out tonight at least an hour ago and my phone won’t stop ringing….I’m a bad friend when the yankees are playing
Finally. At least someone on base again!
These two catchers deserve a day off tomorrow.
Still gonna need a homer to win it with Posada out there.

Posada has caught all 12 innings tonight. Has to be exhausted. And he grinds out a great at bat coming back in the count.
Cano!
that pitch was down the middle how are they so late…lets go
Not exactly Jeter into the stands, but a nice play by Youkilis.
First pitch swing, Cano? How … unusual.
Hitting the first pitch-did we really expect anything less?
Hinske with your best shot!
Ugggh, the first pitch swinging after a walk
Now Mall Cop has to win it

crap
Hinsk this one with your best shot!
If Bruney’s coming in, I’m passing out.
nice at bat for Cano…….
Thanks Robby for ruining my fantasy of you hitting a line drive HR over the short porch
Now, this has gone from heart-pounding to tedious very quickly. Enough already!!!
Bruney = automatic runs for the Sox.

Now does Melky pull a Cano and swing at the first pitch??
Melky, please.

I WANT TO SHOWER.
Hinske has very good at bats…
Nice, Kinky!
pinch run for jorge!!! pena
Can the Melk Man deliver?
oh goodie, come on Clutchy Cabrera.
will posada slide now?
I would pinch run- but I am not Girardi
Everyone’s BA is taking a hit tonight.
Melky might have to hit one into the RF seats for Posada to score.
Here’s a chance for the Melky walkoff
How many walk-off hits does Melky have this season?
Melky! Melky! Let’s do it – - – -
why wouldn’t PR for Georgy here?
Es su destino!
Winning run in scoring position, and Girardi won’t pinch hit for his boy Jorge.
Wow.
Come on already score please.
Hinske should play more!
Melky, Melky, he’s our man. If he can’t do it…
…no one can.
Really, I’m serious.
PL -
At this rate – this game will STILL be on at noon!
Hurry, I want to pee.
CB,
Hinske definitely needs more PT
but it’s tough to argue when you’re winning games
I think Joe G is hesitant to mess with success
pinch run him, molina’s a better defensive catcher anyway
better be a gapper. Posada be slow
Dont forget to slide if its close georgie.
What’s the chances that Jeter comes up with the bases loaded again?
manny wants to face jeter
I’d trust Tawaza more than I would Who is Brian Bruney.
Can’t put Pena in. Then Molina would catch. No one left on the bench
seeing all these balls, makes canos at bat more annoying
Somebody is throwing balls. Tick Tock Boston.
Brandon it puts Molina in the 6th hole.
I think I’m mentally prepared for a walkoff win now.
If Cano had just taken a few pitches Delcarmen might be in a real jam here.
He’s not throwing strikes and Robbie let him off the hook.
Jeter with a walk off pie walk.
You don’t pinch run for Posada you want him available for the 16th.
well jeter may have yet another chance with people on. has to come through with one of them.
the big question is -
does Jorge slide if there is a play at the plate?
do they want to face Jeter?
*Pinch run

our Yankee Universe turns its lonely eyes to you… Brian Bruney
pete may need a 4th blog.
woo woo woo
You have to take a pitch ! What is wrong with these yankee batters ?
sigh – well, can’t expect Melky to come through all the time. I don’t think this will have a happy ending, not with Bruney coming in – game could get ugly.
For all the talk about the Sox burning their pen, we’ve also burned ours.
This is where Bruney loses it
Bruney time?
It’s over. Go to bed folks, nothing to watch here.
I can’t take this anymore. I must stay, though. Boy, this game is a drug.
Exactly how many infield pop-outs is that now?
That was ball four. What a joke. I understand that when you go 3-0, you generally give the pitcher a courteousy call if he gets close. But in a game like this? No. That’s ball four. Should’ve been loaded for Jeter.
I think I picked the wrong week to give up drinking.
This game refuses to end. What happened to the “bandbox”?
This should do it folks…
And this is the game where the Yankees poor situational hitting/hitting with RISP is glaring.
They’ve had tons of chances.
Too many tired looking swings by the Yanks.
I come back W/ Aceves.
“You don’t pinch run for Posada you want him available for the 16th. ”
With that said we know he won’t catch CC tomorrow.
Great job by both bullpens. Unfortunately here is where Boston’s depth will come into play.
The weak link is Bruney. It was nice while it lasted.
Let’s go Bruney. We have FAITH in you. You can do it.
How many chances can you waste? They deserve to lose
is this bruney’s final appearance as a yankee lol?
closing in on 3000 game thread comments
Fact:
Yanks are undefeated when the game thread exceeds 2800 comments
Too many people are trying to hit homeruns at this point.
One strike away; nothing-and-two, the count to Hinske. Fans on the their feet; rally towels are being waved. Brad Lidge stretches. The 0-2 pitch — swing and a miss, struck him out! The Philadelphia Phillies are 2008 World Champions of baseball! Brad Lidge does it again, and stays perfect for the 2008 season! 48-for-48 in save opportunities, and let the city celebrate! Don’t let the 48-hour wait diminish the euphoria of this moment, and the celebration. And it has been 28 years since the Phillies have enjoyed a World Championship; 25 years in this city with a team that has enjoyed a World Championship, and the fans are ready to celebrate. What a night!

Doe Bruney come into this very high pressured game and just overthrow?
When he overthrows he’s awful.
And he hasn’t thrown in a while so he’ll be very strong and very rusty.
You’ll be able to tell from the first couple of pitches if this is going to end ugly.
Pete – Does Feinsand have to do the Daily News 15th inning on the radio too?
Brian better not blow this. He’ll get booed out of NY if he does.
Bruney?
I’m a Bruney Believer.
Uh oH Bruney is in …Goodnight calling?
He better throw strikes !
Please be your old self!
Bruney what you got?
“And this is the game where the Yankees poor situational hitting/hitting with RISP is glaring.
They’ve had tons of chances.”
And the same goes for the Red Sox. Ever think the pitching might be responsible?
Not going to watch this…UGH
ANOTHER idiot trying to be the hero rather than simply hitting a ball hard on a line somewhere.
3-1 pitch, up, and he tries to hit a home run and pops out despite the winning run being in SCORING POSITION.
This is why nobody has scored. They all are trying to be the hero and nobody can just take a normal swing.
Bruney Time is like pill popping time.
Lets go Bruney!
here is Bruney’s opportunity to show he can pitch in tight situations again.
How delayed is ESPN’s gamecast? That’s the only way I have to watch this game and I’m not sure how far behind I am from the live action. I suppose I could go sit in my car and listen to it on XM but it is still 90 degrees outside. That’s fine, this forum is awesome.
Hope Bruney can hold it here.
You have to feel like Tex is going to get his walkoff tonight next half inning with a nice response for my Henry’s Twitter. I am feeling a game winning single, Jeter scores for Tex.
Bruney scares me
90 MPH slider

LOL.. Yes, that’s a fact
Wow- we talk too much
This is why making Coke pitch an inning yesterday was ridiculous.
ye little faith.
I sense some Bruney redemption tonight
Hopefully the good pitching is contagious.
*cringe*
Bruney?
I am so happy to hear that PC Richard whistle right now
one out from Bruney…..good start
down the middle too. This is not good.
Bruney vs Ellsbury and Pedrioa OUCH
YEEEEEEEES!
Very good sign – Bruney throwing free and easy. Not overthrowing at all on that at bat.
Yankee offense get a big hit please. Running out of pen arms…
coolio
Bruney?!?!?
1 more Brian… 1 more!
So far so good!
CB, Bruney looks pretty good to me so far…
Bryney? I’m having chest pains now!
I believe in Brian Bruney!
Can we win now?
B-Squared getting his groove back?
meatball time
Ellsbury lost that one.
Get the elf out !
bruney always gets two quickouts then gives up 3 runs
Will Jeter get his first hit of the series and score the GW?
“Very good sign – Bruney throwing free and easy. Not overthrowing at all on that at bat.”
———-
he looks great so far.
what a weapon he is when he doesn’t overthrow.
Send Pedroia back home to the lollipop guild, Bruney!
+1 for the 2800.
Nick,
I’ve got my special pin on…
I’m a believer… Bruney… Free and Easy…
Can Rios pinch hit tonight?
Tonight is all about pitching. Can’t fault the offense, they had many opps on both sides but as the adage goes: good pitching trumps good hitting any day.
I am sorry to report I did not win Mega Millions.
96?
cmon Bruney!
anyone notice it’s 96 mph down the middle?
This is the outing that will turn around Bruney for the rest of the season and make him an important clog in the BP.
Bruney looks good right now but this is the reason why you don’t pull Hughes after 1 out.
If Joe does the smart thing and leaves Hughes in for the 9th, you’ve got Mo in the 10th, Ace in the 11-13th then you piece it together from there.
Hopefully the pen can hold it down for awhile.
This is the game..
That has no end..
Yes it goes on and on my friend…
geees
97?

Bruney always seems to have trouble just when the going gets good for him.
rather not face martinez.
Good God, Bruney. Do not walk him.
Starting to overthrow why cant he close out an inning?
BRUNEY
Bru!!!
Lotho Sackville-Baggins with the k!

Bruney!!!

wow i’ll say it again the sox are going down easy…,
Bruney came through!!!!!!!!!!!
I know, no one here was worried right?
YEEEEEEES! NOW PLEASE, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE END THIS!
the highhhh stinkingggg cheddahhhh
Thank you.
BRUNEY FOR THE WIN!
Give him a standing O!
Wow, I didn’t agree with bringing in Bruney, but he looks great. Let’s hope we don’t have to give him another inning.
yes brune man, cmon top of the order we need it this inning
here is my 3-2 fastball. you know it’s coming.
can you hit it ?
NOPE!!!
down the middle again, but Elf strikes out. Thank God!
NO SLEEP TIL……BRUNEY!
YEEEEESSSSSS Bruney.
Impressive!
Man, our pitchers have really stepped up tonight. Quite a difference from watching Alby, Edwar, and Veras give up shots off the monster in Fenway.
Bruney impressive there
Erica,
time for your man to shine again……no more fooling around
OMG, that was delightful. Is the real Bruney back??? Now please just end this with a walk-off!
Bruney is back…….
And our offense will close it out now.
i think you need a part 4 pete
Shmoke!
I like this new bruney guy. he’s alot better than the old bruney that used to walk everybody
you must expect Lowell at some point and he kills us…We must win NOW
OK enough of the Bruney hate from now on. OK
that’s a very good sign for the Yankees bullpen, Bruney was throwing darts that inning.
That must mean Yanks will win….Johnny Damon smacks one out this inning…
Frankengame, It’s alive!

Yankees never score in the 13th.
“Will Jeter get his first hit of the series”
He got that yesterday.
Come on. For the love of God himself.. someone has to end it this inning…
Good job Bruney !
Ok top of the order lets go
“What’s that expression? Hindsight is 20/20
”
True but I (and many many others) complained about it right when it happened. I understand bringing Mo in to face the heart of their lineup in the top of the 9th but Hughes can get those guys too.
Whatever. Hopefully the Yanks end it here and I can stop worrying
I think I need a beer
They needed that from Bruney. Jetes needs to end this. Many of us would like to get some sleep

Yes sir!!!
I will use my magical pretend girlfriend powers to ensure victory! Sir!
Bruney is just so frustrating…
When he doesn’t overthrow and when he stays inside himself he’s a dominant set up guy.
He just looked exactly the way he did earlier in the season before he went on the DL.
It’s all there.
If he’d just throw the way he just did he’d be a huge weapon.
Great performance given the circumstances.
Almost time for 5th beer if A Rod gets up
Whew,thank you.Bruney.
13th inning for #13???
part 4 might be coming if it goes to the 14th
this is crazy!
Pete – call off the dogs. Tell the Yanks to end it – you have enough blog hits.
this will hopefully be the last inning
yankee bull pen line:
5 1/3 2 hits no runs 1 walk, 7 strike outs…
Top of the lineup. A good way to end the game.
I think this game is going to end with small ball, not a walk off home run. The ball isn’t carrying tonight and the players have to be pretty tired as well. Maybe Jeter gets a hit and they play hit and run with Damon.
Somebody is ending this game this inning.
Jeter, Damon, and Tex are SO due for a hit it’s not even funny.
OMG! Imagine 24 innings!
draw the walk Jeter!
uh oh! i just realized swisher is not available in the bullpen tonight!
The Jeter lean…
LoHud is going to demand much higher advertising rates for this blog due to all of the comments this weekend!
They should be THANKING us!!
I will take a small ball. You just need to score. I hate when the first guy gets out then everyone starts swinging for the fences. A rally works just fine.
the Sox are down to 2 pitchers and one of them was just recalled. Saito pitched last night, this has to be an advantage for the Yankees, they still have 3 pitchers left.
and another Jeter lean
Don’t you just love seeing the Brun Man throw like that.
Earlier… in ean early thread, some suggested he should actually be DFA’d.
Not when he has this upside!
Not when he can put away the Bean guys.
damn kim is pretty
My eyes are blood shot now. Runs come on please.
Saito time! I’m either eating celebratory walkoff ramen again or a plate full of experimental stem cells.
How’s the crowd at the game? Still full? I can’t see it, I’m watching it in text mode. Mmmm… text mode.
The Good: Bruney was throwing strikes and at 96, 97 mph
The Bad: They were down the pipe
Yankees win tonight and CC is going to pound an exhausted, demoralized Red Sox line up into the ground tomorrow during a short turn around for a day game.
Cute
3,000 + comments and climbing.
Have I mentioned I really need a shower and I am very stinky!
Anyone see PEte in there? I couldn’t spot him.
easy out
jeter 0-6
Hard to believe that Saito has a 3.23 ERA, yet is buried at the bottom of the Sox bullpen.
Amazing how the Yankees and Red Sox ALWAYS find a way to make the game last 4+ hours.
“Yankees win tonight and CC is going to pound an exhausted, demoralized Red Sox line up into the ground tomorrow during a short turn around for a day game.”

yup
said it all along, a Sox loss will be crushing for them
Yanks loss hurts, but nowhere near as much
Jeter LOL…0-6

Here we go…Damon Walk off….
0 for 6 by the cap
leave it for tex to hit it out, i predict

I still want to shower.
I still want to go to bed.

Let’s go yanks
damon 0-6
Bruney vs VMart….Youk and Ortiz….could get ugly
yikes.
LOL! This is ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! END IT TEX!
Sox are 3-42 tonight
enough with the “Jeter is 0-6″ stuff
nobody is hitting tonight
Damon is trying to set the record for popups. I think that might be four in a row now.
Exhausted hitters are now facing fresh pitchers. Swings on both sides look very bad.
Tex please
Man, we are ice cold at the plate. Even Saito and Delcarmen are having their way with us.
These ABs are terrible what is going on?
LOL at Yankees hitting
yes we know sterling we remember you blew the call whe tex was last up
this is the game
right
here
TEX got some good wood on the ball last AB
Can we stop hitting everything in foul territory?
tazawa is all they have left?
Boston will score 3 next inning
the ump has really shrunken the strike zone, it seems, since the game went to extras
he wants it over…. to no avail
Tex wants to end it.
why is everyone swinging for the fences?
if Francona is such a great manager, why does he have one pitcher left after this inning (Saito has pitched 3 out of 4 days) while Girardi still has Bruney, Coke, Robertson, and Melancon?
You got one good inning out of Bruney… do not push your luck. Go to Robertson
Tex just missed to very hittable pitches right there
Cano is sleepy i guess
tex message
Robbie looks like he wants his bed.
Damn Saito really missed with both of those pitches…
Yankees missing pitches right down the middle.
I think Boston wins this one…Yankees look tired.

You must have no friends…. sad.
when is the last time the Sox had a baserunner?
will this be the longest 1-0 game in history?
closing in on 5 hours
I guess it always comes down to A-Rod.
Here comes the walk-off.
getting sleepy
Okay. A-Rod back again!
And it always comes down to A-Rod
A-Rod please send us home with a W. Please
Alex really doesnt want to hang out with Kate Hudson later
Screw the HR, hit a stinkin double!
Shouldn’t CC go home to sleep since he is starting tomorrow? Tomorrow’s game isn’t early..but still it’s late.
It’s only 6 o’clock here, and I’m ready for bed.
Nice job there, Tex.
I think we’re going to see Bruney vs V-Mart, Youk and Ortiz
“will this be the longest 1-0 game in history?”
Not after Arod goes yard!
Matsui vs. Saito… the battle of Japan. Make it happen!
I could really use an A-bomb right about now
I feel like it’s 2 in the morning, why is that?
A Rod up….have a nice night all….good game…bad loss….
Arod #13 wins it is the 13th?????

I assume it was discussed before but only getting 4 outs from Hughes and Mo was really bad.
2-0 this is the pitch to do damage.
2-0 this is the pitch to do damage.
13th inning with #13 at bat. Maybe it’ll be lucky.
The Mets game is in the 7th…this is crazy
C’mon Alex – you are due! Let’s end this game now . . . .
A Rod doesn’t scare anybody, seriously
I wish they didn’t get rid of Billy Traber
GREEN LIGHT
If A-Rod hits a double, Tex runs like the wind and we get a play at the plate
you have to turn him loose on 3-0 here
Erica,
Land of the rainbows.
418 pitches so far.
C’mon A-Rod…Kate Hudson wants to go home!!
green light!
Unless you REALLY love pitching, why would you want to watch a replay of this on Yankees Classics?
swing on 3-0 just missed

LOL at Yankees hitting
SMHID at you
Ahhhhhhhh
the fans are booing Alex
Screw it, I am showering and getting clean
13 innings without a run. ouch.
Dammit!!
LOL!
I tell you if A Rod were batting 6th, and people knew how to bunt, game would be over
swung at ball 4 there
Argh!
so the choices become “yankee classic” or “worst loss ever”?
Who’s turn is it now?
MORE BRUNEY?
Or Dave Robertson?
“Unless you REALLY love pitching, why would you want to watch a replay of this on Yankees Classics?”
=============
good point
it will still be an epic game
WHAT IS THE LONGEST extra inning yankee red sox game?
Martinez, Youkilis, and Ortiz up next.
Hoo boy.
Got to swing at a strike there. A walk puts a runner in scoring position. Darn
Bruney vs V-Mart, Youk and Ortiz
*goes to liquor cabinet*
He pulled the curve ball on a 3-1 count
3-0 and A Rod flies out…thanks for the 5th beer A Rod
Arod must be really tired after playing the field for 5 hours after surgery. He tried to hit the ball 900 feet…
It’s not good pitching anymore. It’s offensive ineptitude. Terrible.
Pete – when does “Part IV” begin??
The Yankees are really pushing their luck right now. I’m guessing Girardi prays that Bruney can handle VMart and Youkilis, and then he goes to Coke for Ortiz and Drew.
yeah, that’s ball 4 for SURE
“Unless you REALLY love pitching, why would you want to watch a replay of this on Yankees Classics?”
Exactly. This would have been a classic if it was won in the 11th off Papelbon, or before. Anything from the 12th or beyond is just tedious.
Bruney against the big guys could get hairy…
Jesus. I hate them all. All of them.
I just want to shower and go to bed so that my head stops hurting. Is that so much to ask?
If we don’t win with a walkoff, I have a feeling the final score is gonna be ugly. If they score one, they’re scoring 4 or 5. Just got a feeling.
Everyone is swinging for the fences. Maybe Yanks should move the walls in a few feet before next season!
Good night all…this game has lost is luster w/no fundemental play and the poor play of Jeter, Damon, and A Rod….bad loss
Spin it any way you want, this would be a bad loss.
the red sox are over due….they have not had a base runner in awhile. of course if they get one big sloppy will hit into a double play
For once in your life, win a big one. Come on A.
===========
The problem with Arod in these situations is he’s ALWAYS trying to win the game instead of what he should be doing which is hitting the ball hard. I guarantee you that’s the only think Melky is thinking when he’s up in a clutch spot.
Remember when a 3 hour game looked doable?

Wow.
New thread, y’all.
I have a good story written. Just need an ending.
Thanks to everybody for reading. This has been a lot of fun.
Please dont blow this bruney
I’m not sure we can ask for the same sort of luck out of Bruney against these guys…
LOL… Feinsand has to do the Daily News 14th inning…
Tazawa is not only a rookie who has never made a major league appearance – he’s spent less than a year in the minors in america.
He only pitched in the japanese industrial league which isn’t the top league in japan.
This will be a brutal debut game for him to come in and close out if it gets to that.
I’m just about done with this game. Don’t know about anyone else.
I officially don’t care if the Sox win. I hate these type of games.
TRADE A-ROD FOR A CARTON OF CIGARETTES!
i agree games that go on this long are just silly…
Bruney will end the game.
it is a crap shoot at this point
As usual, the leadoff man is the key. Get him the other guys will start hacking for homers. Walk him and they will score a few runs for sure. Yankees have had lots of chances. I would love to see them get one more
West coast games are starting to end…
This won’t even be that bad of a loss. The Yankees would still have CC going tomorrow with a fresh Hughes and Rivera, and a 2.5 game lead on the Sox.
The Red Sox bullpen is more fried, and they have Mr. 4-inning Buchholz.
I haven’t seen so many windmills since Rotterdam. Doesn’t matter whether anyone is on or not, it’s all going for HRs. The question is why?
0-2 to 3-2 is jabba pitching
Again with the 0-2 turning in to 3-2. Ugh.
We’re entering bullpen territory where walks are inevitable…
Hal and Hank are now seriously discussing the merits of bringing the right and left field fences in next season to counter their team’s weak bats.
Jeter 0-6 Damon 0-6 Tex 0-5 Arod 1-6.
Jeez, hard to imagine that especially with Jeter and Damon not getting on base once.
YES, that was so close!
wow..that was scary
The loudest out tonight so far, yeah, I agree sox is due since Yanks wasted too much
brian bruney is playing with fire
Lol at Papelbon.
first hit in a long time
is coke avaiable??
no coke at all??
“Lol at Papelbon.”
What does that even mean?
coke???
bruney is over due for a walk
If Girardi is not warming someone up right now, he’s incredibly dumb.
Bruney is falling behind every hitter and missing his spots. Tell tale signs of fatigue.
Yes, Coke is available.
Pabelbum reacted violently (in a funny way) when the Hinske caught the long ball.
the positive side is, no matter what, Yanks should have better chance to win this afternoon’s game
Cano for for Gold Glove.

Did he apply the whip to the horse on the way back to the dugout?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pretty much. Sometimes I think he must still be 9 years old.
wow, that’s scary
Wait, that makes no sense. I thought you said Pedroia reacted violently. This game is causing me problems.
Bruney ugly, but I’ll take it.
This has to be the Yankees inning here.
Pedroia only LOOKS 9; Pabelbum acts it. Actually, there is a lot of childish whining in general on that team. How do you single out a couple of players only?
Well, Bruney pitched very well – both teams have received brilliant pitching. Who is available tomorrow? Coke, Mo, Phil, Robertson, Melancon? Not bad I suppose – though Robertson or Melancon are going to have to pitch the next inning. This is a rough game…….
Oh, Tazawa freak out please at the thought of pitching to one of Japan’s baseball gods!!
Nice walk to get to Veritek. Nice out uncaught roid guy.
Betsy,
I would say Bruney pitched well the first inning; not so great the second. He was a little amped up — which is understandable. He got out of there without giving up a run and that’s what’s impt.
Hip hip – let’s go cano!
could Posada be slower?
Too bad Jeet isn’t on base (for speed).
Posada in the scoring position? Idon’t think so
How would this be a bad loss, Rconn? Is every loss a bad loss? I think people expect perfection from this team……they’re not going to get it done every time.
hinske walk, melk-man delivers with the bases loaded?
all right, we got a PR
“Pedroia only LOOKS 9; Pabelbum acts it. Actually, there is a lot of childish whining in general on that team. How do you single out a couple of players only?”
Totally. And I’m sorry. I was commenting on my own comment when I made the reference to the whip and then I realized it didn’t make any sense. Pedroia is the jockey. Papelbon is the skirt wearing whiner who has been sucking this year. I thought you mentioned Pedroia when you actually mentioned Papelbon. My mom says I’m cool.
Please win this game.
this is a BAD sign
….unbelievable
ok, will play 15
come on melkyyy
Melkman delivers the …
The Yanks just can’t win this game
Ughh, another swing at an obvious ball four.
Tazawa for all the hype, doesn’t look to impressive. All those balls were rockets. Flat fastball and not overpowering. He has a couple of offspeeds. Woo hoo.
… suck
The only way Yanks can win tonight is Sox has to score first, only one run though.
Rays pen blowing their game now
I really love CC’s support of his teammates, but I worry he’ll be tired tomorrow and we need him fresh. Then again, maybe he’s one of those people who only needs 5 hours of sleep…
Pete posted part IV. New chat for those of us who are slow. Already 400+ comments. I am slow.
haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!
And what about the Yankee relief pitching. Zowie.
