Game 109: Red Sox at Yankees, Part IV
We’re headed for midnight at 0-0. This has now become one of those games everybody will save their ticket stub. What a classic.
UPDATE, 11:57 p.m: Bruney has to deal with Martinez, Youkilis and Ortiz this inning. Boston is out of relievers and had Junichi Tazawa warming up. He was called up today and was expected to start in place of John Smoltz.
Yankees still have Phil Coke, Mark Melancon and Dave Robertson left. Not Nick Swisher.
UPDATE, 12:02 a.m.: Yankees could use a 6-4-3 from Papi now. Bruney has lost his command a little.
UPDATE, 12:06 p.m.: This just in: Bill Clinton flying to the Bronx to negotiate the release of 48,262 people held hostage by this game.
UPDATE, 12:13 a.m.: This is Tazawa’s debut. He was called up this morning. What a spot to put the kid in. But Francona ran out of pitchers. He’ll go awhile if it lasts.
UPDATE, 12:15 a.m.: Posada gets it started with a one-out single. Pinch run Pena? Probably not unless Posada gets to second.
Yankees have Pena and Molina left.
UPDATE, 12:16 p.m.: Here comes Pena. Hinske can win it.
UPDATE, 12:19 a.m.: Watch a catch by Drew, a game-saver. Incredible.
Melky Cabrera, the walk-off king of New York, gets his shot. Can he do it again?
UPDATE, 12:23 a.m.: Tazawa is giving up rockets.
UPDATE, 12:25 a.m.: And so we go on. Yankees 0-11 with RISP and have stranded 12.
UPDATE, 12:29 a.m.: It’s the 15th inning and the Red Sox have four hits, all singles. How is that even possible?
At what point do they send CC home to rest up for tomorrow? I’m also officially renouncing anything that I write at this point. I can’t be responsible.
UPDATE, 12:35 a.m.: Top of the order to face Tazawa.
UPDATE, 12:36 a.m.: Jeter with a single. Nobody else for Boston, Tazawa is on his on here. Damon, Tex and A-Rod next.
UPDATE, 12:37 a.m.: Tazawa has given up hits to three of the six batters he faced and Girardi had Damon, one of his hottest hitters, bunt. Why? Of course he can’t bunt. He never does it.
UPDATE, 12:40 a.m.: Alex again. He has ended four innings today.
UPDATE, 12:45 a.m.: What a game. Alex breaks his drought, Yankees win 2-0. Boston has to be crushed. Now they get CC.

alex needs a few days off…he can’t catch up to a 93 mph fastball
2 hours ago i called a walk off for Hinske. Still may be!
Somebody put Shelly Duncan and his forearm on a bus.
let’s get this one. this could set bosox back in the standings and in their minds. we need this edge.
Hi guys. I just went to college and graduated, is the game still on?
ARod is worth every penny.
How much longer can we shut the Red Sox down? Something has to give.
Iowa Baseball Confederacy, anyone?
I was going to dvr the beginning of this game and run out for some early dinner… then I decided to watch a few innings first… then it was going quickly so I decided to wait it out…
I might pass out.
Only a classic if the yankees win.
Compared to who? It’s not like anyone else has been smashing the ball.
Wow. 14th inning, and Bruney in for his 2nd of work. Amazing we haven’t lost yet!
P.S. YES just had a shot of the press booth, Pete’s in the front row wearing blue. Hi Pete!
My god, Feinsand sounds horrible.
Mark Melancon. Nuff said.
I’m listening online…will tonight be the night we hear Sterling with a “Hinske with your best shot!?!”
Tazawa is not only a rookie who has never made a major league appearance – he’s spent less than a year in the minors in america.
He only pitched in the japanese industrial league which isn’t the top league in japan.
This will be a brutal debut game for him to come in and close out if it gets to that.
PartIV – The final chapter?
My eyes are blood shot. I’m ready to hit the sac. Don’t care who wins.
Gameday has packed it in.
Too bad Hughes had to be used for only 1 out. Asking Bruney to go 2 innings is not good.
0-2 Bruney what the hell? Terrible job.
It’s Saturday.
OH MY GOD
wow that was scary
OHH THANK GOD!
Oh man, this is one of the most brutal games I’ve ever watched. HEART STOPPING!
How can Saito go another inning? He threw 30 something pitches against the Rays a few nights ago, pitched last night, and has already thrown more than 20 pitches tonight
Tooooooooooo close for comfort.
wow
wow
wow
phew
Pitch the Swish!
Close call. Thats a HR last night.
my heart
okay I almost swallowed my tongue!
That was kind of scary.
Thanks Pete!
ball hasn’t carried all night, last night that was long gone but so would have been Teix’s before.
At midnight, the jet stream turns off
what happened to pop-ups leaving the park?
“My god, Feinsand sounds horrible.”
wow he does. You guys been passing around Jack D around the press box?
I hit submit too quick thinking BB then soiled myself thinking HR.
V. Mart whew
“How can Saito go another inning? He threw 30 something pitches against the Rays a few nights ago, pitched last night, and has already thrown more than 20 pitches tonight”
———
a couple platelet injections in the dugout should do the trick
WOW…That scared me…Maybe the wind tunnel went to sleep already…
goodness wat a game!arachi pakistan still waching t! im here sitting in karachi pakistan STILL waching this game unbelievable
Mall cop maced that one down to earth.
Wow the ball ain’t carrying. ha ha
HAHA! Crapelbon!
That scare was well worth the psych out on Papelbon
Hey! It’s tomorrow!
this ball really isn’t carrying tonight, probably because it’s a chilly night.
Brian stop throwing it down the middle but throw strikes!
Oh, crap. Close call. Blart had to get off his PTS to grab that one.
Bruney getting tired.
If Red Sox lose this game they are going to be disheartended. If they win it can rejuvenate them and give them some great momentum.
C’mon Yanks.
cmon Bruney if you fall behind you will get hurt
6am here, sun is comming up.
send CC home to get some sleep!
bruney nearly sh-t himself on that fly.
time for a Coke, Bruney is losing it.
I showered fast. Who made the scary catch??
May not have mattered but I’m really annoyed that Hughes and Mo were only used for 4 outs. Those 2 could have gotten a min of 6 and maybe even 8 outs.
o is this the beginning of the end?…not sure what joe is waiting for
Very good play by melky
Time to take Bruney out. Two hard shots is enough for me, but not for Girardi. He’ll take him out after this walk
Bruney is running out of magic.
Okay, there is one way I’d care if we lost. If Ortiz hit it out, I’ll vomit.
I don’t like these swings on Bruney right now.
Bruney is definitely finished. Fastballs with nothing on them and bad location..Coke start warming up…
Who’s up in the pen?
where is Coke????
nO cOKE? hOW COME?
where was that pitch to Ortiz?
Get Coke in there
Is Melancon warming up?
Bruney’s command is starting to go. He’s getting tired.
gotta mix the slider in Bruney
get a groundball for once…
LET SWISH PITCH!!!!!!
Papi is going to deck one.
Get Bruney out now!!!!!!!!!!
I hope to God Bruney can keep it glued together.

I’m listening online…will tonight be the night we hear Sterling with a “Hinske with your best shot!?!”
he did already
NY radio guys Joe and Evan gave props to Pete and commenters when Sterling used it
this continues to be agonizing
Bruney falling behind last 2 batters.
Why no Coke for Ortiz and Drew???
come on Bruney you jerk face
What is Girardi doing?? Where is Coke?!
Get Bruney out of there…He is cooked…
now Ortiz can sit fastball
Not good, not good.
There is absolutely no reason for Bruney to still be pitching in this game
if he walks him here I blame Girardi for not bringing Coke in
and Ortiz is still late on it
You know Bruney is going to give something up. I can feel it.
Ortiz cant buy a walk or a hit…let him pop up
At least we have hughes tomorrow.
oh boy. its like rohengardner in the 9th inning when his arm went.
slider!
Ortiz can’t catch up with the fastball but Bruney needs to throw a strike. Coke should face Drew.
I have a baaaaad feeling about Bruney!
Did ortiz just yell Cone-Yo?
At the risk of repeating myself get Melancon in this game before Bruney screws up hours of effort from everyone else.
Gameday thinks the game should be over. It stopped updating.
Papelbon with the premature celebration on that ‘homer’.
That’s a shame.

I showered fast. Who made the scary catch??”
Martinez sent Hinske to the RF Wall.
Terrible … did Joe go home?
There are too many good swings here.
Why no slider down and in to Ortiz?
There better be a good reason why Coke’s not in this game.
lot of megative vibes here
I would get coke in here boston is down to their last pitcher
I can’t believe Coke isn’t even warming up..Ortiz is getting great swings. Is this Girardi’s way of giving up?
Not really getting this decision Girardi!!
Poppy is a wreck. Not a threat any more.
Time to go to the pen- every ball hit hard. Coke for Drew.
Bruney at 30 pitches
prob should take him out soon
Two out. One more Brian.
This bullpen has been so spectacular tonight. Major props to them.
Papi is weak……BOOOOIIIYYY!!
can i order a coke??
Perfect spot for Coke, if Girardi has a brain.
Bruney missing his spots by a lot. 30 pitches for a short reliever, you think he’s tired?
cmon bruney one more out.
ok Bruney is done…Joe put in Melancon
I dont like this IBB
Why no action in pen?
Will they come up big w/ RISP? we have not all night.
Walkin Nancy Drew to get to Tek??
3 hard hit balls in a row. Get Bruney out of the game! It’s not his fault, but he’s tiring now.
“now Ortiz can sit fastball”
BD,
That’s not how you pitch Ortiz anymore.
He can’t catch up to the fastball – especially bruney’s good fastball.
You don’t want to speed up Ortiz’s bat by throwing him a slider.
wpw ppl watching from holland and pakistan shows wat an inrernational sports empire the yankees are
guys I suggest we spiritually hold hands to get Bruney out of this inning w/o allowing a R….cool?
*extends hand, someone grab it*
i dont like this walk to drew for tek
This is a joke. Why not Coke for Nancy?? Bruney for another batter is dangerous.
Varitek still resembles a major-league hitter from the right side, so now is not the time to use Coke.
strike Varisuck out
Bruney has thrown 30 pitches. what the hell is joe doing? He is going to throw more pitches than aceves
Hitting Tazawa is not a given at all. He has great control and the Yankees have never seen him before.
Gotta hope Bruney can pull out a mircale.
Bruney won’t get this out
Varitek is awful/ No excuse for giving up a hit to him.
why leave in Bruney…i dont get this
getting a bit nervous?
Girardi is giving up….
i am sweating
125+ comments on this thread already. Think we could hit 4,000 during this game????
Btw- you will all be relieved to know, I am showered and no longer stinky
At least get someone getting ready Joe!!
It is pretty comical how little respect we have for Varitek now that we’ll walk a guy who is 0-5 and has a .246 average to get to him.
“BD,
That’s not how you pitch Ortiz anymore.
He can’t catch up to the fastball – especially bruney’s good fastball.
You don’t want to speed up Ortiz’s bat by throwing him a slider.”
————-
I guess you’re right.
Ortiz can hit the fastball lately when he’s allowed to cheat.
I was thinking slider more for the DP.
but it worked out fine.
Ortiz proved me wrong
The ump is really squeezing Bruney now.
And seriously, is Coke not available? Because I can’t see any better time to bring him into a game.
No, you use Coke lefty on lefty for Drew, who has hit under .200 vs. LHP this year.
I hope to god Bruney gets out of this, but he’s showing the tell tale signs of fatigue- falling behind, missing spots. Hopefully it doesn’t blow up in his face.
“extends hand, someone grab it”
Sorry but I can’t see your hand.

I showered fast. Who made the scary catch??”
you did not rinse and repeat, did you?
Varitek has such a slow bat now. No reason to throw anything but fastballs in the zone
*someone grab my hand!*
because they don’t want to waste coke or robertson unless they really need him and you don’t bring in a rookie in this situation unless its 100% necessary.
I feel bad Bruney. Why are they doing this to him?
i think they score here
This is a mistake- he is burnt out.
come on this is really bothering me…lets go Bruney one out
“Btw- you will all be relieved to know, I am showered and no longer stinky”
—-
in preparation for your naked jog around the blog?
Did all of the OPPC people go to sleep? Nick in SF, Uncle E, where are you all???
We need good happy thoughts!!!
TEK
i’d give my left nut for an out here. and my right one for a run next inning.
I am just checking with gameday – is there seriously nobody warming up in the pen?
MIKE August 8th, 2009 at 12:02 am
LET SWISH PITCH!!!!!!
======================================
If you were actually serious, he has been pulled from the game.
This move makes ZERO sense….Girardi is acting like Bruney is the last pitcher in the bullpen.
Bruney cmon
Bruney at 38 pitches
cmon!
Tazawa looks like a scenester kid
I still hate bruney – even if he gets out of this.
If the Yankees lose this game it’s because Girardi stayed with Bruney too long. Anyone can see that he’s tiring.

Nice!!
unreal great job bruney
Phewwwww
bye bye left nut
Whew.. no worries.
Exhale
THANK YOU! If we don’t win this now… UGH!!!!!!!!!!!1
MAJOR. PROPS. BRUNEY.
Girardi got EXTREMELY lucky there…
OH GOD THANK YOU!
Wow I’m really shocked Bruney got out of that. Great job
It got harder to be a believer in that inning… felt more like this crappy version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....re=related
that was very lucky…all outs were hit very hard at People
My heart. It cannot take this. BUT I WILL FORCE IT TO!
I want Tazawa vs Matsui !
Bruney 40 pitches
the wiggled out of that one………
where are the home runs in the new yankee stadium? We need that.
Matsui vs Saito or Tazawa
and Japan is actually AWAKE to see it!!
phew… if we can beat someone, it is tazawa. it has to be.
“UPDATE, 12:06 p.m.: This just in: Bill Clinton flying to the Bronx to negotiate the release of 48,262 people held hostage by this game.”
lol that was a good one
This thing better end soon…I’m running out of brews! C’mon Yanks!! END THIS!
Someone’s got to run into one. Now. End it.
Bruney bent, but did not break.
Time to close out.
Come on offense.
I can’t eat any more stadium food.
Please Jorge, Cano somebody end this game.
cmon tawazwa pitch one up to your idol like they did to Cal Ripken in his final asg
Thank god Bruney got out of that, but Girardi is really, really, really dumb.
Bruney approaching FORTY pitches, and he is falling behind on EVERY hitter and missing his spots by a lot. That is when you have to have someone warming up in the pen.
What was going to happen if he walked Varitek? Would you seriously have let him pitch with the bases loaded in a 0-0 game in the 14th with his pitch count that high and that many signs of fatigue?
If not for Varitek bailing him out, Girardi could have looked really, really bad there.
Japan will enjoy the matchup coming up
maybe if we dont wish for a walk off we will get one
Well, what do ya know. A move actually worked.
This will be very interesting. I don’t condone traumatizing kids, but we need to make Tazawa wish he never signed with the Red Sox.
Great job Giradi, having faith in your players pays off…now its time to end this thing

==========================
Well the bright side…A Rod isn’t up
I know we want to keep this blog clean but I think that inning deserved some foul language.
I have certainly been yelling plenty at my screen.
Overall – excellent job by Bruney. Lets get to this new guy now.
alright, matsui, posada, and cano. again. can we do it finally?
Everyone hold your breast and start applauding.. Bruney got it done even thogh it wasn’t pretty!
A little too much to ask from Bruney, but he answered the call
*having faith its going to end this inning*
The Sox are going to need some length out of Buchholz tomorrow. I wouldn’t count on it.
Tazawa is the 13th pitcher of the game.
Coke is probably not pitching in this game or else he would have been in.
The Yankees have a huge advantage now, they need to close this game out.

Relax. Bright side, no Bruney for a week.
Just kidding. Great job by Bruney to gut that one out.
mlb debut…please win here
Erica should be easy to chase around the blog – I’ll just follow the wet shower footprints.
Show me this guy bowing to Matsui again….thanks Kay.
still like our chances. our bats vs young pitcher.
What is Francona doing? Why is he using all his relievers for 1 inning each?
Now who do they use after this? Penny?
Did they just do the 14th inning stretch???
Nice not having two Yankee killers Bay and Lowell not play tonight, don’t know what Francona is waiting for with Lowell, he kills the Yanks
Has any pitcher ever made his major league debut in the 14th inning of a scoreless game?
Varitek and Papi are just shells of what they were.
It’s really amazing how bad they are.
Neither one has any bat speed at all.
They can’t even get any lift off of a decent fastball anymore.
Anything they do is off guessing and getting lucky.
Gutty outing by Bruney there. He was tired and really struggling.
Now is not the time for the yankees to struggle with a pitcher they’ve never seen.
Brutal spot for a rookie who has spent less than one year in the minors and is from another country to make his pro debut – especially against one of his idols.
Bow to your Master !!!!
a pitcher the yankees have never seen not a good sign..
Yawn…..remember when this game is done…the word is fundementals…that is how you win…
Mr Matsui
I most humbly apologize for suggesting to take you out for a pinch runner. I will never let this happen again. Now please show your most polite countryman that you are GODZILLA!
I’ll stand on my roof and sing The Battle Hymn of the Republic if this game ends now!
Ok, Matsui walkoff off of Tazawa, I will get kimchi ramen and a premium fresh sushi roll! Whatever it takes!
This is his 1st major league game…Hopefully they can actually hit him..He only had 2 starts over AA.
Uncle E-
I responded before. I def did not repeat. I am not even sure I rinsed. LOL
Varitek is 0-6 with 3 Ks
UPDATE, 12:06 p.m.: This just in: Bill Clinton flying to the Bronx to negotiate the release of 48,262 people held hostage by this game.
=====================
What about all of us watching on TV/MLB.com? I want to get something to eat!
Pete you are quite the man to still be funny this late.
Let’s give Tazawa a hearty introduction to this rivalry with a walkoff win.
prediction:
Tazawa, despite great control in the minors, will walk 2 guys and lose the game
This game could be some way to introduce Tazawa to the league.
No pressure, your entire pitching staff has just produced 13 scoreless innings to try to stop our biggest rivals from running away with the division.
Huge momentum game either way, and a must win for the Sox with Sabathia going tomorrow . No pressure rook.
Giradi plays everything exactly by the book all game and then leaves a short reliever with 2 DL stints this year out for 40 pitches. He certainly does some strange things sometimes
On the radio in the beginning of this game, it said this dude worshipped Matsui in Japan and shook his hand prior to the game
>UPDATE, 12:06 p.m.: This just in: Bill Clinton flying to
>the Bronx to negotiate the release of 48,262 people held
>hostage by this game.
That’s a good one.
Double-A pitcher we have never seen?
usually it takes us 2nd time through the order for us to solve them.
enough…
Could Tazawa be any goofier looking?
For some reason this game has the fell of the Red Sox scoring but then the Yanks tying it in the bottom half of the inning…..
i bet this matchup is really huge in japan!
I’m OK with the 14th inning stretch, as long as they don’t play God Bless America again!
Can Boston bring back John Smoltz for this game?
yankees can not get a lead off man on base..
“Thank god Bruney got out of that, but Girardi is really, really, really dumb.
Bruney approaching FORTY pitches, and he is falling behind on EVERY hitter and missing his spots by a lot. That is when you have to have someone warming up in the pen.

All your assumptions turned out to be wrong.
Girardi knows what he is doing.
Calm down.
NOBODY UP IN THE YANKEES BULLPEN.
Is Girardi INSANE?
Tazawa sporting the Daisuke mullet
Coke.
Why is nobody up yet in bpen?
Johnny D. August 8th, 2009 at 12:13 am
Could Tazawa be any goofier looking?
yea if his name was Kei Igawa
Matsui squared that ball up beautifully. Baseball…
He better not bring Bruney out for another inning…
Come on Jorge!
big in japan
There’s still no one warming. Can he really send Bruney out again?
Tazawa throws strikes. Its going to be hard to get any freebies.
jesus Georgy a double is as good as a homer, stop swinging for the fences!
And I keep hearing some guy in the building next to me clap for the Sox.
I’m laughing very loud out my window if they end this here.
Po’s swinging at EVERYTHING.
this is brutal..goin down like flies
ACTION!
wow, great/lucky play by JD Drew
posada is a boat anchor on the bases
jorge!
At least they’re hitting the ball hard off Tazawa.
Damnit, if it was anyone but Jorge…
But a hit! A hit! It’s been forever!
That’s a long freaking single there.
Isn’t it time for that Ortiz press conference where he says ARods cousin gave him the steroids?
Posada is so slow….i guess you have to stay put…how else can you GIDP
2 well hit balls so far.
End this now.
Thank you for not trying to stretch that into an out jorge
1:15 in the afternoon in Japan.
Just hit it to hard.
I honestly believe we are all in Hell right now, and will be watching this game for the rest of eternity.
The yankees are seeing the ball very well out of his hand.
His stuff isn’t very good so far.
one of our slowest players on base
hit hard, get some lift on those balls!
Wow, Cano still has the only extra base hit tonight
They should pinch run with Pena. Posada has caught enough…
In this kind of game, you have to have guys ready to back them up, especially when they get to that kind of pitch count. No BBFan, I said that AFTER the groundout, because despite the lucky result, Girardi still made what could have been a game losing mistake by not having someone ready to back up Bruney in that inning.
The Red Sox have nobody in their bullpen left, that’s one thing. Girardi has Coke, Melancon, and Robertson. Someone has to be warming up.
Matt, isn’t it past your bedtime? Does your mommy know you are up this late?
Coke. Thank God.
Donnie – Will Meet Dustin Pedroia Under the O’Neill Banner

I honestly believe we are all in Hell right now, and will be watching this game for the rest of eternity.

Maybe we have all just entered the Twilight Zone…
this is where we end it – i called it
NICE! Lock is down!!!!!!!
Two in a row!
now Pena
Cano you di’in’t!
3 more singles and Posada scores!
They are getting good swings off this guy.
Georgy is going to be worn out, PR him please.
Hinske
with
your
best
shot
Dear Yankees,
Please get a hit here. And end this sucker for once and for all.
Sincerely Yours,
Erica
How many suicides has this game produced since this game was declared over after the first pitch?
There is no action in the pen because Giradi knows this game is over this inning..:)
I’m too tired to say the obvious what if.
PR good stuff
They are seeing the ball very well. No deception in his delivery.
Pinch run Molina
yay me
Pena!!!!!!!! I love that kid!
Two what in a row….GIDP ball LOL
you must pitch run for posada he has to score on a hit….
Thank you Girardi. Posada would of only scored on a triple…
Lets go!
melkman walk off single
Please, Hinske. PLEASE.
Didn’t Gammons say that this guy Tawaza was a better investment than CC?
Mall Cop remember when I said you’d get a clutch walkoff hit, tonight is the night
C’mon let’s back up the Hinske truck and unload the pies.
Thank goodness today was the day the team decides to stop carrying 13 pitchers.
That’s why you save Pena…
I’m only being partially sarcastic.
pinch run molina, is he faster than posada??
Want some pie Hinske?
Come on Hinske!!! PLEASE, PLEASE get a hit…
“Didn’t Gammons say that this guy Tawaza was a better investment than CC?”
———
probably
NESN saying the ump blew both of the first two pitches
Great, now we have Molina’s bat due up in the 17th inning….
Hinskie…the genius of Cashman continues to show…
I will have ramen for dinner and think about Pat Benatar if Hinske ends it right now. I swear it.
Hinske we need a single not a homerun…
will eat ross’s other foot to end game…
I think Gammons said he was the next Cy Young.
“Two what in a row….GIDP ball LOL”
I take this as irrefutable proof that you are not a Yankees fan.
Go away, troll.
Red Sox really missing Masterson right now
Molina is actually batting better than the avg of the players so far in this game
HINSKE NOT PICKIN THE BALL UP WELL
Please someone get a big hit.
you got a clutch hit in you Mall Cop com’on
sterling was yelling on that one….thought we won the game
I HATE JD DREW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m going to puke
I hate you J.D. Drew. I hate you.
F U Drew.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW! Why not give that up!?!? Let it end!! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111
Wow what a play by Drew
FOR. THE. LOVE. OF. GOD.
Wow, J.D. Drew made a defensive play for once
I feel sad inside
come on JD Drew cant even walk with his awful back and he makes that play unbelievable
DAMMIT!
DAMN NANCY!!! He must of just took his high heels off…
Nice catch by Drew.
Wow.
JD Drew, DIAFF.
Yes, there are two F’s there.
That just s**ks.
Can’t hit it better than that.
One more chance.
CB is right
they are hammering Tazawa
they will score off of him now or next inning
eff you Drew.
that was just a great play by Drew…
SOB
I hate Drew, absolutely hate him.
lol. Hinske wanted pie.
Tazawa is just getting lucky right now. Melky must be patient here.
grrrrrr… Drew.
here comes melky for another walk off ………..plssssssssssssssssssssss
Melky walk off? Please?
Damn it.
At least the yanks have hit 4 balls well
C’mon Melk end this
Damn they are having great swings…
In the words of Uncle Jesse…
Have mercy!
Surprisingly enough, that was the first real defensive gem in this game.
It comes down to Melky…part 3 (or 4 or 5?)
Wow. I can’t believe this.
Dear Yankees,
Please win now. Thank you so much for your help
Sincerely Yours,
Erica
melky..melky…
I threw up, pee’d a little, and passed out before he threw that ball in to the infield

Thank you Girardi for pinch running. With 1 out here and 2 cracks at it, you have to go for it here.

Wow Matt. That was a nice post.
yankees have to win this game…against this kid pitching.
Drew saved a run twice. First by holding Posada to a single and then by catching Hinske’s ball.
Even if the Sux score, there is no way Francona lets this guy close
He will let Penny or someone do it.
LOL. I was running out of expressions of frustration, Erica.
Sox will prob score 3 in the 15th followed by the Yanks scoring 4 in the bottom half
Come on, a walk for Melky and then a pie in the face for the Captain!!!
ARE YOU KIDDING ME??!!?!
sterling is driving me crazy..he keeps blowing calls…
are you kidding me?
This is getting TOO crazy.
Haha, this really is hell!
Joba is pumped!
Come on!
LOL! Amazing how many things come down to a couple of inches.
LOL @ Joba
I hate baseball. I hate life. I hate gravity.
Joba is definitely drunk. He’s the happiest guy on the bench…haha.
Tazawa is worse than Smoltz
I am going to cry. For serious. This is nerve racking.

great ab by melky..
CC almost jumped the fence. That was great.
I hope Joba has a ride home tonight LOL
my heart cannot take this
lets go Melk
If we lose this game, it’s going to really hurt only because of this inning.
Wow – I thought Hinske had it won. Drew made a fantastic catch! Pena has to score, Come on Melky – hit it!
Doug -
to be fair – it ain’t Sterling’s fault tonight.
The Melkman delivers…us to the 15th inning.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

As tired as I am, that cracked me up.
That was retarded.
LOL! WHY WHY WHY!!?!?!?!??!?!
please this hurts my insides
wow…….
Crap.
That was not fair. Just not fair.
i spoke too soon..
The Yanks just aren’t getting any breaks this game.
3 hard hit balls for naught. (Matsui, Hinske & Melky)
One more hold…pretty please?
Reddick, Woodward, Ellsbury
get through those guys and the Yanks are scoring in the 15th
Jeter, Damon, and Tex will hammer Tazawa
Dammit that Tazawa has an angel on his shoulder.
ugh
This game is bordering on absurd.

Keep celebrating Melky…
They will win this game the next inning if they can keep the sox off the board.
They need to get three more outs.
Unbelievable. Unbelievable.
This game should have been over, twice. The Yankees better still find a way to win this game, just wow.
kid has guts. curve off the plate on a full count. 1 more inning. c’mon coke.
Pete,
Digya bring your sleeping bag?
Drew looked like the NBA logo when he made that catch.
Terrible luck. Just a terribly frustrating game.
all i am saying doreen is he is not helping my frustration.
That stinks. They could not have hit the ball harder in that inning. Melky that was ball 4…
Hopefully Coke is pitching now.
I guess it will come down to Alex again
What’s the record for longest game without a run? This is getting ridiculous!
Mike you can go to straight to *ell for that remark about Joba. Go. Shoo
I’m not worried. Even if the RS score here, I think the Yanks can come back against this pitcher.
Horrible
jeezus – who pitches now?
they just need to hold the Sox this inning, there is no way Tarzawa gets through another inning now that they’ve seen him for an inning and the top of the order coming up.

Coke in? UGH
3 more outs. That’s all they need.
awesome game….
I’m going to take my retirement money and invest it in Wendy’s burgers.
this is ridiculous
We are going to pound Tarzana in the bottom of the inning.
His guy isn’t fooling anyone. Coke has to keep them scoreless this inning and the Yanks will win it in the bottom of the inning.
Well, regardless of whether we win or lose, the pen is toast tomorrow. CC has to give us innings…….
man why Coke this guy gives up the long ball
Theres no way Tazawa goes pitcfhes another scoreless inning…
This is def. one of the biggest Yanks/Sux games ever.
Oh man their bullpen came into this series exhausted, then when the finally get a quality start the game goes 15 innings. Francona must be praying it ends soon.
this is not going to be easy..but I said that 7 or 8 innings ago
he swung
Sox will manufacture a run here…unlike the Yanks
Please get these guys in order. Reddick is fast…you can’t let him get on base.
Betsy – pen is fine…Hughes and Mo are ready to go.
if the yanks win and it becomes a yankee classic, why woul dyou want to watch it again??
Right? Can you imagine a six hour Yankee Classic?
Yes…How VERY rude!!

I just want to watch the bench react. YES – go to Picture in Picture.
These guys are fun to watch.

If this became a Yankees Classic, they would just show the first inning and then the 9th and then the 18th.

You’re dumb. Go away.
Doug -
I understand. It’s not much better watching, if that’s any consolation.
No, the pen is not toast tomorrow night. You’ve got Hughes, Mo, and whomever Girardi doesn’t use tonight.
I know in pressure situations experience can help but seriously put Melancon in this game!!!!!! The guy is getting into a groove, and he came up as a closer so he can handle late innings.
You just know after Coke he’ll go to Robertson though only because he has about 20 innings more experience. Nuts.
The Yankee classic should just show the final pitch of each at bat.
Papelbon in his rally cap?
Really?
Like, seriously?
Good lord. He looks like a 12 year old.
do not walk this guy
Don’t feel bad, Josh. Jeter is 0-6, too.
Uh, Phil. This is the #9 hitter.
When the Yanks win tomorrow morning, I’ll make everyone breakfast.
RDM, STFU, your team failed to execute twice tonight with runners on 1st and 2nd with no one out and your favorite manager has run through the entire bullpen leaving only a rookie making his first appearance in the major leagues.
Anytime there’s a fly ball to right, i leave a skid mark in my shorts.
true that doreen, at least I dont have to listen to KAY..
Coke needs to bear down on ellsbury and not let pedroia get up this inning.
They seriously need to consider moving these walls in. Nothing goes out in this park.

15 innings
Yanks are about to win. I can feel it.
or maybe it’s cuz Tazawa has to face Jeter, Damon, Tex, ARod…
Game over in this inning. No chance Tazawa goes another scorelss vs top of our order. Jeter is leading off with a hit.
KOOzy.

Russ…or RDM, whatever he goes by now…anyway, yet again he makes a false prediction.
Can the Yankees please win this now, with the top of the order coming up for, what, the 14th time?
Great job by Coke to prevent Pedroia from batting this inning.
You put cans in it to keep them cold.
Yankee Stadium hasn’t yielded a HR since Teixeira’s shot in the 8th inning yesterday. Is that a record for the stadium?
I swear if all of us gather the strength to watch this ridiculously bad song , this will be it.

Man can you believe how good the pitching has been tonight? It’s freaking unreal
great relief pitching by the Yankees tonight.
the Sox bullpen is in worse shape than the Yankees for tomorrow, particularly since CC will go much deeper than Bucholz. The Sox don’t have anyone who can go more than an inning or two, Masterson was the guy who gave them innnings when they needed it.
loopy is good
koochie ?
Alright here we go..This is the inning…The top of the lineup will actually get a hit LOL

YES. They are due!
Before we win this game, can someone take a time out to explain RDM to me? What makes someone so foul? Sad childhood? Recent divorce? Bad skin? Living in his mom’s basement?
I don’t understand the mentality. You suck, RDM. I like Matt more than you!
Nobody left in the Red Sox bullpen. Let’s finish this guy.
Jeter can you work a walk and steal 2nd?
Don’t stop thinkin’ about tomorrow, don’t stop, it’ll soon be here…
The Red Sox bull pen is the one that is going to be absolute toast tomorrow.
As it is they try to avoid using papelbon in back to back games to save his shoulder. Tonight he threw the longest stint he’s thrown in a long time.
So effectively they might only have a 6 man pen tomorrow.
Saito also isn’t a high workload guy.
They will have to send Tazawa back to the minors and call up another arm.
The yankees win this game and this series becomes very ugly for the sox
Yankees bullpen: 7.1 IP, 3 H, 2 BB, 8 K
I’m so pissed I’m living in Tampa Bay. I’m Freakin watching it on Gameday waiting for a run scoring play from the yankees. How the hell is the stupid MLB Network not putting this game on TV. Hope we win in the bottom of the 15th. GO YANKEES!!!
Who is this Tazawa guy?
Jeter,Damon and Tex a combined 0-17. They’re due.
Don’t waste your money on a scorebook…just print sheets off of the internet. Google and you will find tons.
Hopefully Molina doesn’t have to come up in a big spot…
OK we’ve had a chance to see Tazawa now, top of the order up, this has to be it.
My money is on Jeter with a single and then Tex an RBI double.
When last time Jeter 0-7?
Jeter can’t go 0-7 can he?
I feel like this is the fifth time I’ve said this tonight, but Jeter, Damon, Tex, and Arod are due for some hits!
The crowd is dead. It’s Yankees-Red Sox! tie game late!
Where is the passion?
end the game now Jetes
Godot.
(Got it.)
As a Yankees classic, the only way they could make this game work is to edit it like they do the encore games, cutting out the “dead” spots. In which case, they may have to stretch it with commercials, cause the actual action is probably 90 minutes at best?
you got to think either Jetes or Al get to DH tomorrow, 15 inning night game followed by a day game.

Our pitching staff has done a great job – no question, but this line-up from the Sox without Lowell or Bay is absolutely rubbish.

I said Jeter would get on. This Tazawa is going to give up a run. AJ get the pie ready.

i would NOT bunt here. it takes the bat out of tex’s hands..
Do not like the bunt here…
Captain, now steal the 2nd…
Hate bunts.
Or steal
DO NOT BUNT. DO NOT BUNT.
Why would you take the bat out of Teixeira and Damon’s hands, who are both lefties who look like they are crushing this guy tonight.

Awful bunt and awful decision by Girardi.
Go back to Sleep Joe!
are you kidding me, Damon?
damn Johnny that was horrible, lay off there.
wow when was the last time he tried a bunt
This game went from a classic to tedious
It would have been perfect if they won it in the bottom of the 9th. This WAS a great game. After Jeter whiffed against Papelbon, it has sucked.
“The crowd is dead”
There is absolutely nothing going on in the game.
bad baseball…
::facepalm::
That was awful managing by Girardi. Damon hasn’t bunted in forever, and Tazawa is getting tatooed.
WHO THE HELL LET CODY RANSOM BUNT THERE!??!
well, that was stupid
I never advertised Johnny could bunt
Tex, PLEASE! PLEASE!
A non-bunter bunting. Okayyyy…
Just a horrible job by the Yankees offense.
Derek needs to stel this guy is super slow to the plate
What the hell was that?
What in the world is Damon doing? The pitch was neck high…Just terrible…
Uhhhhhhhhhh.
Damon!
Damon could have put one in the seats there.
WHAT A SHOCK.
Girardi is just so stupid. He refuses to bunt with guys like Melky, and then he’s sacrificing his #2 hitter with no outs and a guy up there who lefties are DESTROYING.
He would have taken the bat out of Teixeira’s AND Damon’s hands and given it to a slumping A-Rod. Girardi just gave away an at bat from one of our best hitters! WOW.
Why Joe do you now decide to manage with Damonup? Are you kidding. Girardi is a dope w/ the swings the lefties have had of Tazawa
Girardi cannot give outs away fast enough.
Just truly amazing.
They are absolutely rocking Tazawa. Every ball is being squared up.
And you ask a guy who never bunts – a guy with power to bunt.
Just letting the kid off the hook.
Girardi’s brilliant idea.
Stop trying to work walks… someone hit one out of the park and lets go home
A DP always comes after a failed bunt attempt…
Damon has bunted plenty of times. He just failed miserably there.
Honestly, don’t blame Damon for that. He’s not a good bunter, and should probably not ever be asked to do so. I know it’s technically the right move, but if he can’t get it down, it’s useless. You’ve giving up an out.
and he doesn’t bunt…Girardi should be ashamed of himself tonight…he has let this game get away like 4 times now…he’s horrible
Too bad SCHMOLTZ isn’t pitching. END THIS YANKS!!!

A Rod…your kidding me, right? LOL
Joe Girardi is not smart.
A-Rod watches the hittable ball fly by.
How many times has it come down to A-Rod tonight??
That is not cheering in the stands. It’s screams of torture
ARod for the win. What? It could happen.
A Rod 1-7….looking good batting 4th
Bunting in that spot turned around the entire inning.
Struggling pitcher, lefties crushing him, 2-3-4 coming up, and Damon, the master of short home runs over the fence.
Girardi had a guy who is the king of hitting cheap HR in this park SACRIFICE with the winning run on base. Can it get any dumber than that?
Girardi manages the right way, and this game is over in regulation because of Melky bunting, and now him having Damon bunt probably extends it even more.
With a pitcher who is struggling as badly as Tazawa is, a pitcher who is hanging on for dear life on every pitch why give him an out. Why just hand him 1/3 of the opportunity that you have to score a run.
still preplexed over the bunt..
Uncle Ellsworth,

I half-expected Sterling to retract his excitement as he did a few times during the game.
That Arod, so unclutch. Should’ve hit the walkoff way back in the 9th inning!
Yankees classic. Seriously, one for the books. Great show from the rivals. Both teams pitched excellently.
where is RDM?
Arod !!!!! Is the Man !!!!
Pretty cool they hooked Kim up to the stadium PA!
Can Kay tell us again how many at bats Arod has gone without a home run?
Tazawa overrated
Alex nice
Jorge amused by the pie after the big deal the papers made of him hating it.
Will Alex get the pie from AJ?
ARod=killer
Thank you sweet Jesus!
And what about the Yankee relief pitching. Zowie.
And I made sure my drunk obnoxious Red Sox neighbors heard me laughing.
What can you say, definitely worth the wait.
Home – do you thnk anyone wants to go home now????
Yankees! Yankees! Yankees!
A-ROD’S IN DA HAUS!!!!!!!!!
LOL Did you see Jorge? AJ got Alex good and Jorge was laughing his head off…………
Wowww! I’m so glad it was Alex especially
Thank you Lo-Hud posters for helping me watch this game when I couldn’t actually see it on TV. You made it fun.
MAD FUN!!!!!!!!

So tomorrow I start my “Raising Helen” marathon.
***
I almost feel bad for you. LOL
Sox are toast
Had the win there Tazawa was reminding me of Byung Hyun Kim
I loved the giant hug A-Rod gave Tex. Are they buddies?
Where’s RDM? LOL
o man i dont want to damper this but was alex holding his hip???
So is ANY of the bullpen available for tomorrow?? LOL! Whatta game! GO YANKS!!!
Does someone hear Gammons crying somewhere? Arod walkoff and his best pitcher in baseball and brilliant signing released.

Uncle Ellsworth,
You’re referring to “Waiting for Godot” I believe.
wasn’t me it was a good one though
Josh Beckett wrote it
And of course, now, I’m wide awake!
Glad this one was on YES – postgame.
Question, if it was FOX or ESPN, would they have stuck with a 5 adn 3/4 hour game??
Without question the most important part of tonight’s game – even though it seemed like it happened last year – was Burnett pitching mano on mano with Beckett in a huge game.
Great job by A.J.
Buerhle, Halladay and Beckett in the same week…..can you beat that?
Drunk and passed out in his mom’s basement, BD.
AJ is the man…….he pitched brilliantly in the first game and now he just whomped one on Alex.
GET THEM BODY BAGS READY! SOX ARE GETTING BURIED THIS WEEK!
The Yankees win…the Yankees win….A Rod w/a meaningful hit
way to go alex! I hope this gets him going!
Well, now I am too hyped up to sleep! LOL
LOL @ Kim Jones. Were you saving it (homerun) for this moment?
Alex didn’t quite know how to answer that one.
Great game.
What’s even better is that they have 5 inning Buchholz pitching tomorrow and an overworked pen.
We have CC!
PL saw that too. As long as this game was if I am Girardi, Alex DH’s tomorrow or gets a day off regardless….. if he’s smart.
Not bad for a remnant of the steroid era, huh Pete?
A-rod saved Girardi’s bacon
That bunt was the stupidest thing imaginable but thankfully A-rod saved the game
I will move A Rod into the 5th hole tomorrow
He hit an A-Bomb off of a Japanese player.
Love Joe’s reaction!!!!!1
Rconn, completely agree………..but I think he will almost be forgotten. Wow, almost 2 full games tonight……
Nice job, Arod.
And yes, Jorgie definitely enjoys the pies. Bet he wants his own!
Gotta love AJ’s enthusiasm.
Finally he did it! Get all the monkey’s off our backs all at once.
The Red Sox are dead and we just killed them. Ding dong the witch is dead. Which old which? The wicked witch. The nation is in flames and all is right with the world.
RDM, your IQ fell below ZERO tonight, I didn’t think it was possible for anyone to be this stupid.
what is the record for walkoffs?
this blog has to be breaking a 1 game record…what a win, GO YANKS!!!
Anyone else notice Alex grabbing his hip and limping around after the walk off hit? Something to be concerned about?
Arod has hit a bunch of clutch homeruns this year.
This one against Boston, the walkoff against Minnesota, two against Seattle in the 7th and 8th inning, and the game-tying one off Lidge.
5:33! HOLY CRAP!
494 pitches
Great game. Gutty performances. Bad managing by Girardi who has never heard the word bunt…..wait till playoffs…will cost him
Molina caught the batting helmet!
Is the game still going?
Wow. It was getting crazy waiting for the Yankees to score. Another meaningless, stat padding homerun from ARod. He never gets them when they are needed.
This is a heartbreaking game for any team that loses it, even more when this extends a streak of losses.
Glad the Yankees are on the winning side.
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
AJ definitely redeemed himself.
Tex with Gold Glove defense.
Alex with the walkoff blast. (oh, no. Sterling’s call?)
And Aceves for 3 great innings.
Lots of sleepy players on Fox. At least the Yankees will have a little spring in their step.
What a win. I love to watch the dug out when a win happens. They look like little leaguers and these are guys making millions.. Hooray for AROD.
I had to deal with NESN all night. They better broadcast the YES postgame (Directtv) or I am not going to be happy!
someone tell ESPN’s btm. it was F/15 not F/13.
yankees win…RDM aka pete is crushed…
Yeah ARod really sucks
He is SO gonna get some from Kate tonight
Welcome to the bigs Tazawa!! You signed with the wrong team!
Yanks gotta be patient against Buchholz today. He walks lots of people and Boston’s bullpen is thin.
trisha,
I had to watch NESN as well.
I want the YES postgame!!!!
CC who goes deep into games tomorrow, Hughes one batter, Melancon and Robertson not used.
Bucholz who can’t go deep, Francona used his whole pen tonight.
Set up well for tomorrow’s game
This is devestating for the Sox. Now they are in real trouble. Their pen is devestated, and Hughes and Rivera only threw a few pitches. They can still be used.
Careful MG….making fun of people can get you banned….one of Pete’s rules….on the other hand…I’d go head to head coaching a game vs you….would be an easy win
Hey I just saw Erica run by! WOW
You can just tell, this Yank team is so different. And, different in a great way.
Has Alex EVER hit in the clutch like he has this year?
Alex, by the way, seemed to be holding his right hip after coming out of the Yank scrum. It’s probably nothing.
Beantown will sleep with a migraine tonight!
Thaaaaaaaaa Yankees Win!!
I will go to bed with a HUGE smile on my face tonight.
“Great game. Gutty performances. Bad managing by Girardi who has never heard the word bunt…..wait till playoffs…will cost him”
Please just throw yourself into oncoming traffic, you gutless troll.
Let the real fans celebrate.
Seems like years ago when the red sox were 8-0 against us. See how meaningless that stat is now?
RDM, are you a troll. Because if you’re not and you mean what you post, you seem to suffer from a psychosis, perhaps of the delusional variety. Seek help.
I saw him grab his hip, but then I saw him, lift Tex with da hug so it can’t be that bad. No worries. Maybe his hip brace was slipping off?
You know what’s weird? Arod has 6 walkoff HRs with the Yankees and still is considered unclutch. It’s probably because he’s always trying to hit a hr with a chance to win the game and it’s worked 6 times out of a hundred.
There was just no doubt that if they got those three outs in the top of the 15th Tazawa’s luck was going to end.
You could just see it coming. They were squaring up one ball after another after another after another.
Alex and the yankees pitching staff just plunged a dagger into the heart of the Red Sox.
There is almost no way to describe how devastating this loss is for them given the context.
They are just absolutely reeling and in utter dissarray in their pitching staff.
They lose a heartbreaking 13 inning game to the rays. Heartbreaking. A game they were leading 2-0 in the 8th inning.
They burn through their pen. Then they lose the next day to the rays.
They fly to NY – land at around 4AM.
And then lose to the yankees 13-6 and watch John Smoltz just get pulverized. They have to play inning after inning behind sacrificial lamb billy traber.
And tonight they had their stopper on the mound. They guy they put on the mound and believe they will win behind – especially after a huge loss.
And AJ just throws darts and shuts them down.
In the process they have now completely burnt through their pen again.
And Buchholz is going tomorrow – he has been awful and gives no length.
How can they even pretend to ask him to take one for the team tomorrow when it is an absolute must win for them?
And on top of that they get to fact CC tomorrow.
And a yankee pen that still has an usual rest Rivera and Hughes.
Brutal loss.
This is the kind of sword championship teams use to finish off their competition.
KROD HAHA
dont forget how dominant AJ was either!
or the pen!
the Yanks pitching was phenomenal… and then some
This is a Yankee Classic now but I’m not going to bother watching the replay of nothing much happening. I’ll start watching in the 13th inning…
All sorts of Papi karma raining down on the Sux. He better not pull a Pinocchio tomorrow or he will keep the bad times rolling!
Congrats.
The Yanks look great. Tough to be a Sox fan right now.
Hope the regulars here are doing great. I know they are pleased with the results the last few months!
Cheers, and Happy Friday.

The A-Rod Blast followed by the A-Rod post-game reaction:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/63797437ae651809/
Into the empty Sox pen really is the cherry on top.
Finally reached the 25 game threshold. 4.5 ahead of the Sox. If Texas wins, they’ll only be 1 GB of Boston in the WC.
Let the good times roll.
Alex grabbing his hip was not great. He is due for a rest. They would be smart to sit him or DH him. Put Hairston at third.
For all the dislike they write about Jeter and Arod, Tex and Arod seem to have a very good relationship.
Krod blows a save against the Padres and is about to lose the game (runner on 3rd, 0 out). HAHAHA!
RDM is a moron.
He’s an Arod stalker and hater.
He’s also a coward.
He’s probably in his mommy’s arms now crying his eyes out that Arod won the game.
Don’t worry, he will be back tomorrow spewing more nonsense.
It’s how he rolls.
Well that was pretty darn awesome. I hope all of you are going to keep your walkoff-win promises. I forget exactly what I ratcheted mine up to, but I know it includes kimchi ramen and some sushi, so off I go.
If I never post here again, I passed out from hunger on the way to eat and crashed. And it was worth it.
Francona used his whole pen but didn’t burn anyone out to the point they cannot pitch tomorrow. The Yankees burned Aceves and Bruney
dennis,
it’s a good time to be a Yanks fan.
Just hope the Yanks can put the nail in the coffin.
4 1/2 is good but it’s not over…
night.
Kudos to Alex of course but my favorite moment will be the look on Tazawa’s face when DJ dunked that perfect pitch on the hands into the outfield. Join the club kid.
“Alex, by the way, seemed to be holding his right hip after coming out of the Yank scrum. It’s probably nothing.”
15 innings and 7 ABs will do that probably.
“Careful MG….making fun of people can get you banned….one of Pete’s rules….on the other hand…I’d go head to head coaching a game vs you….would be an easy win”
He’s not making fun of you, he’s simply stating the truth.
RDM
Francona made mistakes too, so don’t just go after Girardi, at least his team won !
don’t forget jeter one hit made a difference
I’ll start on making breakfast after I finish chasing Erica around the blog. (she is fast in that birthday suit!)
For all the Girardi haters, you have to give him credit. He managed this game very well tonight and pulled the right strings in the pen.
SJ44,
I love how you missed the last 2 threads but came back in time to give RDM his just dessert!
A-Rod shut him up pretty good
What a game!
Here in Italy it’s almost 7am. I can go to bed.
YAY Boston Dave!!! YES postgame.
And let me tell you how we’re going to celebrate this win. Your taffy will go in tomorrow’s mail. Michelle’s too.
This was the best performance from a Yankee bullpen in years, maybe. What were the odds that Hughes, Mo, Aceves, Bruney, and Coke would all come out dealing and throwing strikes?
Melky was wearing Arod’s helmet backwards, and Tex gave him a big hug. Soooooo cute.
Dennis – I’m so sorry that I haven’t gotten back to you. I promise I will email you tomorrow……….
instant classic
K-rod blows another game that should end the greatest closer in the game conversation today
WOW, WHAT A FINISH!
RDM, you’re a sad man.
To everyone else who stuck with it, you were rewarded with a classic. Congrats.
Good night, Pete Abers…see you tomorrow.
The look on Tawaza’s face was reminescent BH Kim after Martinez and Jeter took him out.
CB great stuff, hopefully all that results in a Yankee sweep or series win!
Good job calling the end of the game too
A Yankee Haiku:
15 innings long
Walk-off home run by A-Rod
Hooray, I can bathe!
Arod didn’t seem very giddy when being interviewed after the game. I think something’s wrong. He said he was tired 2x and grabbed his hip after the celebration at home plate. Girardi better make sure he’s ok and if he’s not he better sit him for 3 games. The Yanks have a pad now and with Hairston and Pena there’s no reason not to rest him.
Holy crap- I just realized something….
4.5 game lead!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dennis, classy, as ever.
it’s 5.55am here in england, and i’ve been with you all for the last hour (my baby boy woke up an hour ago!)
in 4 hours i will be off to play a cricket match.
the yankee universe, it encompasses all sorts, even the odd englishman. what a win!
“The Yankees win…the Yankees win….A Rod w/a meaningful hit”
What a pathetic, cowardly post to put up after all of your nonsense and drivel.
Just embarrassing.
You are an utter embarrassment as a yankee fan. The stereotype of stupid NY impatience that people around the country mock endlessly.
I drank so much beer. close ti puke. yeah yankees
Francona didn’t burn out his pen??? They used a lot of them during the Rays series and lost which is partially why he just let Traber get trounced yesterday. Paps can’t go more than 4 batters ever. And he used everyone to the end. So when Bucholz goes 5 or less tomorrow he will have to use 4 more bullpen guys tomorrow for another game on Sunday.
Boys will always be boys, it seems. I love that energy, seeing everyone cheer each other on. I think baseball is one of the few sports that does it anymore.
I was just at a bar here in Boston (through innings 10-13) and holy crap i was getting annoyed. I won’t lie, it’s a beautiful beautiful thing. =)
Let’s go yanks!!
BD, it seems like AJ pitched ages ago……but he was brilliant and I don’t think anyone will forget how well he pitched. Ooh good, AJ post-game coming up, lol.
Guys what about the pitching? Pretty awesome.
“Francona used his whole pen but didn’t burn anyone out to the point they cannot pitch tomorrow. The Yankees burned Aceves and Bruney”
which was good they needed work. And the only one that we were really concerned about was Ace and praying Bruney just didn’t allow one. Tomorrow Melancon, D-Rob, Cokey,Yuuussses and Mo.
Well, at least this game makes Yankee Classic now.
Can we now leave alex alone, at least for a week?
Aura
Yeah but Hughes and Rivera are available becuase they weren’t burnt out.

What are the Red Sox looking more forward to tomorrow.
The Ortiz circus or Clay Buchholz throwing 90 pitches in four innings?

————————————————————
It applies to people. There’s a lot of doubt that this applies to you.
Hughes can pitch 2 innings tomorrow
Girardi is genius in managing the bullpen today.
Inspite of this long game we have our two best pitchers in BP avialble for tomorrow.
Also we will have Robertson and Guadin or Melancon rested and availble. With CC pitching we may not need more than one or two from the BP.
Res Sox are really shot in the BP. They had a tough series for the BP with Rays and then today. They need to make some moves for tomorrow.
I think you have to DH Al tomorrow or have him come off the bench. Especially w/ the hip.
I just heard a news report of millions of people in Boston jumping off bridges. LOL
Went for a booty call in the 12th and back for the 15th. A night to remember.
Why would he throw him a curve ball?
Toughest thing now will be to guess the line up tomorrow as everyone needs the rest.

good night yankees universe! I’ll be basking in all blue and white glory here in Boston tomorrow.
What can you say but, WOW. Everyone contribted to a great win. I’ll bet the Yankees sleep a lot better than the Sox tonight. No let up, lets get creedy and think sweep.
A Rays and Rangers win tonight would just be icing on the cake. Rays and M’s are tied at 5 (9th inning) and the Rangers are up 9-5.
Think Boston is feeling the pressure??
Oh yeh I forgot Gaudin is going to be added to this BP.
Seriously, did anyone else notice A-Rod grabbing his hip as he came out of the mob. Concerns me a lot

====================
I noticed that too
it’s pretty amazing that a troll who claimed for 4 hours that the Yankees would lose this game would continue to spew nonsense after they win.
both managers handled the game exactly the same except Francona burned his bullpen completely. Aceves throwing 3 innings made sure that didn’t happen, you have to give him tons of credit.
it was a difficult night for decisions and most of that was due to the pitching, which, except for Tarzawa, was incredible. Both AJ and Beckett pitched so well it might not have mattered what either team did with men on base, no one really hit the ball hard at all off AJ and Beckett was really tough when the Yankees did get some runners on. Overall, a great, great ballgame and the Yankees hopefully follow this up with another win later today.
Huge win, and, I suspect, a back breaker for the Sox.
Pel – thanks for the YES audio !
The word from NESN land – “it was a “painful” loss”
I was exhausted 30 minutes ago and now wide awake.
Buck and McCarver are going to be so sad tomorrow having to speak kindly of the Yanks the last 2 games.
Yes, and ABomb for ARod, 64 years and 2 days after the bombing of Hiroshima. Off of a Japanese pitcher? O, the irony…
Yes, Josh Beckett, we were waiting for Gaudin. Great literary joke…
CC is due for a domination.
Can Bucky pull one out of his tuchas? Doubtful, but you never know. If he pitches to his 09 performance, the Sox are going to have to call up a AAA or AA pitcher out of the “deepest pitching staff in baseball” to help him out. Wait, you mean there not all that deep? Huh? Me be listenin to da ESPN, and theys tell me othawise…
anyone see pete do bunny ears to his budddy beside him at the game?
WOW
Betsy,
I know you were saying AJ needed a big game.
I think he heard you
What bad luck for the Sox. In the last 5 games Penny, Smoltz, and Buchholz have failed to go more than 5 innings, and the two games Lester and Beckett pitched brilliantly in ended up going to extra innings, both of which the Sox lost.
It can’t get more frustrating than that.
I’m on the SOSH forums, just drowning in schadenfreude.
Good night everyone. I’m done.
Just imagine all those Sux fans that stayed up for nothing!! I’d be ticked! LOL!!
CB,
if you took all of that idiots posts, put them on a wall, and had people comment on them, they would say, “who is the moron”?
It’s comical that somebody can harbor such hatred for someone they don’t even know.
I want to tape the game tonight on YES, but the replay is usually only 2 and half hours and I don’t now how much of it they will cut out, lol.

My guess is that he was just saying, “watch my hip watch my hip” as he didn’t want to get jumped on. He looked fine circling the bases.

============================================
Saito is burned.
I think we have quite a few horizontal thinkers on the lohud blog!
Anyway, postscript showed that all the yayhoo talk about pitchers beaning hitters was as ridiculous as it sounded.
Credit to Beckett for throwing a clean and tremendous game. I expected nothing less. After all, a team fighting for its life doesn’t think like the run of the mill fan…
AJ was just tremendous.
Jorge called a fabulous game.
Thank God we have CC going tomorrow. We will get the innings we need.
By the way, the faith of a mustard seed can move mountains, or so they say. What about the Yankee bullpen!
Congrats to you posters who toughed it out. I have to say it is refreshing not to have to read nonstop worrywart posts. Hopefully there weren’t many of those tonight. If you are a nervous nellie, sometimes taking time away from the forum is probably the best medicine for you since you don’t have other worriers to feed off. Just a thought.
lol
everett cabrera grand slam off krod…
KROd blowing another game. That team is just pathetic.
So a week or so ago, we kept hearing about the deep Boston pitching, so many arms that they could make deals to get everyone and their brother. Depth at AAA. A week later Smoltz released, Penny stinks once again, they trade away their middle relief guy with no replacement, Bucholz the stud everyone wants has a series of bad starts, their other much hyped offseason Japanese pitcher looks mediocre at best. The line drives off of Tazawa reminded me of the ones you saw off of Igawa. The offspeed pitches get minor league guys out but you need something more. What is so great about Tazawa?????
Can someone find the post from the person who said that “A-Rod is only clutch during day games”. That might be the stupid comment of the night
Girardi managed the pen much better than Francona. And we still had Melancon/Robertson left.
Bill Simmons tweets:
That game didn’t just kill the 2009 Red Sox season, it chopped it up and put it in different suitcases like a serial killer.
“Into the empty Sox pen really is the cherry on top.”
I was thinking exactly the same thing.
How fittingly symbolic.
It’s amazing that the game transpired the way it did.
For much of this year we were told everywhere that the Red Sox pen was going to be a substantial differentiator between these teams.
The Red Sox pen would help them win. The yankees pen was unfixable and utterly untrustworthy. It would be the irreparable laceration that would bleedn the yankees dry. The Red Sox pen was near invincible.
And on this night – on a game that the Red Sox absolutely had to win the yankees pen is brilliant and beats the Red Sox pen.
The irony of it is just remarkable.
You could see twice, once during kim’s interview and then when he went to the radio interview he seem to hold/grab his hip on his right side
I want to thank the Yanks and Sox for keeping this game going so long, so my wife could arrive back home from her business trip, and we could celebrate Alex’ HR together. (She became a Yankee fan after we got married, she didn’t realize that was part of the package
).
“A Rays and Rangers win tonight would just be icing on the cake. Rays and M’s are tied at 5 (9th inning) and the Rangers are up 9-5.
Think Boston is feeling the pressure??”
why would you want Rays and Rangers to win? it doesnt benefit the Yankees because they would be 1 game closer to them
Let’s not forget the great job that bullpen did, from Hughes to Bruney, they kept the Sox off the board giving their team a chance to win the ballgame, great, great, great job by that pen!
Also, although he did not have a great game with the bat, remember how many great defensive plays Teixeria had, he has been unbelievably valuable this year.
Finally, how about the great at bats our guys had, making Beckett throw more pitches than he would have liked.
I agree, Girardi having Damon bunt was not wise, but, one mistake for the entire game? I’ll take it!
That team is so together as a group it is like night and day when compared with the Red Sox this year. I agree, CB, this just may be it for the Red Sox for 2009. We survived their best pitcher, had a mediocre game with the bats, and still we win the game!
This team is special!
Did K-Rod give up a walkoff GS 80 2-2 to 6-2
““Into the empty Sox pen really is the cherry on top.””

:Can someone find the post from the person who said that “A-Rod is only clutch during day games”. That might be the stupid comment of the night”"
It was made entirely in jest. I was responding to someone else.
BD, LOL……AJ proved a LOT tonight. At some point, the skepticism about AJ is going to melt away….. he’s pitched very much like an ace for quite awhile now.
I said this earlier, but I would not have been upset by a loss….how could I be? AJ pitched great, the pen was heroic………..Killing the offense? Not fair…….
K-rod allows a Grand-slam and his era jumped up by 1
“I had tears in my eyes seeing Tex give ARod a big bearhug”
I somehow missed that.
But I seriously got tears in my eyes when I read that you had tears in yours BD. And I have tears in my eyes thinking about what a great team we root for. Who’s luckier than we are.

Krod gives up 5 in the ninth, gives up a grand slam. Who will be at Citifields for these games by next week???? They will need to start giving stuff away to get people in there.
Girardi managed the pen much better than Francona. And we still had Melancon/Robertson left.
========
Francona doesn’t have the faith in his pen at the moment that Girardi does. Think about it, other than Bruney did you feel uncomfortable with Girardi bringing any Yankee reliever in tonight? Face it, the Yankees have the best pen in baseball at the moment. They outclassed the Sox pen tonight which is no small feat.
Good night all I leave you with some HAVING A PARTY:

The beauty of Ace
Boston Dave, who showed Arod with AJ, NESN? Or did you see it on YES? Maybe it will be on the SportsCenter highlight if it came immediately after the homer.

If anyone cares anymore…. K-Rod gives up a walkoff grand slam to the Padres
The Mets and K-Rod must be happy nobody will notice him giving up the grand slam since everybody will be talking about this insane Yankee-Red Sox extra-inning duel.
This game was big, like beating you know who big.
Brandon… I’M AWESOME ! SOMEBODY FIND ME THE REAL CC SABATHIA !!!!
August 8th, 2009 at 1:08 am
:Can someone find the post from the person who said that “A-Rod is only clutch during day games”. That might be the stupid comment of the night””
That was me it was actually, I’ve never seen Alex hit a walkoff at home at night. I must have jinxed it
***
Brandon, I give you credit for owning up to it
anyone else see arod grab his hip on the way out?
Good night, everyone, this was a sweet, sweet win for a team that just doesn’t quit and guts it out every game. And for all the great fans on this blog, thanks to you as well…
And does anybody think that lester and Bucholz can be as dominating as beckett was tonight?? While they are both certainly capable, I dont see it happening. I smell as sweep.
We’ve heard all year – by mediots like francesa and madden – and also saddly by yankee fans who the Red Sox “were just the better team.”
How they were just the inimitable, top rung organization. They had “replaced” the yankees.
These Red Sox with the “clutch” youk, pedroia, and bay were the new version of the 90′s yankee dynasty.
They were incomparable and the “choking, underachieving” yankee team was never going to measure up.
0-8!!!!11!!!! 0-8!!!1!!
We heard all year that the yankees just “can’t beat” the sox.
And all that has been shown to be what it truly was.
Media hype. And misanthropy on the part of yankee fans.
What we saw tonight and yesterday – is the better team tearing the heart out of its lesser foe.
All the yankees needed to do was to split this series.
Mission accomplished.
Who can sleep?
I’m so happy,I’ll be up for hours.
The Yankees beat their ACE,and dug deep with pitching and batters to get the job done.
Mass will be asking for THEO’S head!!
So very proud of my team.
AJ pitched better than Beckett, always under in pitches per inning.I never seen him pitch this good.
Thank You AJ!!

niiiiice
I’m not ready to put the dagger in the Sox yet……no way. This was a brutal loss for them, though, because they are supposed to win when Beckett is on the mound……It IS unbelievable how far the Yankees’ pen has come. I’ve been critical of it lately, but tonight they were unbelievable……all of them. Ace was heroic………..
Chris, everyone saw him grab his hip, now we just need Pete to get into the clubhouse and ask him about it.

If anyone is watching sportscenter, did Jon Anderson just say “boli, boli, boli” after the A-Rod interview???”
Yup, totally unprofessional.
“Brandon, I give you credit for owning up to it”
By now you should know I do it for a reason.
AJ post-game show coming up next……
I didn’t see it, but apparently Alex grabbed his hip. He really should sit tomorrow…
‘Cause I’m CC, yes I’m the real CC
All you other CCs are just imitating
So won’t the real CC please stand up,
please stand up, please stand up?

Girardi’s YES post-game reaction:
http://www.zshare.net/audio/637979437d5104c9/
Sox have Detroit, Jays and Rangers before facing us again. We have Oakland, Jays and the Mariners. The Yankees can really put the Red Sox in a world of hurt and in the rearview mirror if they pull out some more wins in this series.
Sox and Rays have two more series against each other in Sept.
The Yankees will be in great shape if they finish out this month strong.
On A-rod grabbing his hip, I think he was kidding around–as in “don’t beat on me too much, remember my hip” when he was trying to run through the pile at home plate. That was my impression, in any case.
Great win by the yankees.
Another good sign was Bruney in his first inning of work was overpowering that looked like the Brian Bruney before the dl, Bruney is basically a 1 inning reliever. 2nd inning he got in a little jam but he got out of it. If Bruney gets back to pitching like he did in the beginning of the season the yankees have the best bullpen in baseball.
Great job by the entire bullpen
Betsy, I’m not writing off the Sox either. Billy Bats died easier in Goodfellas than they went down tonight. Let’s not turn this Sox team into the 2009 Mets, they are down two starters and their MVP in this series. I think Girardi outmanaged Francona tonight for the first time I can remember. Francona managed desperate usually that’s Girardi’s role.
What a game. What a win. Win of the season. Maybe this will get Alex Rodriguez going now. Also, have to say what a job by the pitching staff, and what a job by Brian Bruney. I have hated on this guy big time in the past but he really stepped up tonight and showed what he can do what he has his head on straight. In any case, CC Sabathia can REALLY possibly put a nail in Boston’s coffin tomorrow. If he shuts them down the Yanks get another W, the Red Sox might not sniff first again.
Yankees can still use Hughes, Mo, Melancon, Robinson, Coke for a lefty. Using Clagett last night did that for them.
This is setting up pretty well.
Bone head move by Girardi in the 15th, no?
along with ken singleton ummm michael kay
Tomorrow’s lineup
Cabrera CF
Swisher RF
Teixeria 1B
Matsui DH
Cano 2B
Hairston 3B
Hinske LF
Pena SS
Molina C
Still doing happy dance.
No more questions on 0-8
No more questions on HR droughts
YEAH!
“This game was big, like beating you know who big.”
LOL
We can rest Al today, we accomplished what we had to do. No sense in pushing the most valueable hip in the majors.
Zach-
Don’t know if you are serious, but we only play “Guess the Line Up” on weekdays. For 7pm starts the game is at 2. Or when I start it
Pete,
You’ll have to change your game story now that Michael Kay has used the “long night’s journey into day” line!
What? You weren’t going to use that? It’s an incredibly corny line? And Kay is a terrible broadcaster? I don’t believe it. What a hack.
Poor Tazawa. Gave up a wok-off homerun in his first outing.
“why would you want Rays and Rangers to win? it doesnt benefit the Yankees because they would be 1 game closer to them”
The Yankees are 7-5 against the Rays and 4-2 against the Rangers. I would rather the Yankees face either one of those teams in the postseason than the Red Sox.
Thanks Pel!!
The last few months are all about a great rotation in starting pitching IMO. Yanks grind out wins and have a quality starter every night/day.
CB. Agreed. Hype is hype, nothing more.
All. Thanks for the kind words. However, if I did not post after a tough loss, without a social engagement, I would be disingenious.
-dennis
Ah, dammit, okay, someone has to be the one to do it, so I’ll step up to the plate. I’ll write off the Red Sox.
But I respect anyone who isn’t ready to do the same. After all, not everyone has ICE WATER IN THEIR VEINS!
Yeah okay you caught me. I wrote them off at the beginning of the season so I don’t get any big points for doing it again.

If anyone is watching sportscenter, did Jon Anderson just say “boli, boli, boli” after the A-Rod interview???
——————
Yeah he said that. He also said during the intro “a rare heroic moment for Alex Rodriguez”. Ah well, I doubt A-Rod cares
.
“Yup, totally unprofessional.”
Thanks timo–I was pretty sure that’s what he said, but I could hardly believe it. We all talk about NESPN bias, but that was absolutely crazy.
Like I said, youtube the walkoffs for early in the year…He does it every time. Remember during the Castillo pop-up?
Yankees have 10 walkoffs this year. That has to be the most in the majors, right?
Boston is a mess.
The big news from NESN and WEEI ?
“we will bring you the Big Papi press conference live tomorrow”.
They are worried about old news! they have more urgent things to worry about –
Bay is hurt. SS is a mess. They need Buchholz to give them length. The Bullpen is taxed. Smoltz is gone and now they have to wonder if Tazawa is ready.
On NESN they just asked the fans how worried they were – on a scale of 1-10, this one guy answered 12. LOL
One of the strangest games I’ve been to in years. What’s with the crazy Friday night games this season.
The Mets game where Castillo dropped the ball and now this one.
I was exhausted by the time the game ended. I can only imagine what the players were feeling.
AJ earned his stripes tonight. I don’t know if you guys saw it on TV but he gave a really long cap tip to the crowd who were showering him with love.
If Swish made that play in the first he might have been going for a no-no the way he was dealing.
That said, I’m glad we won. I can’t imagine how the team and the fans would feel losing this one.
As for the Red Sox? Their pen is toast for the weekend and their new savior from the vaunted system looked downright pedestrian in Tazawa. I realize it’s his first game but I didn’t see anything remotely eye opening from him stuff wise.
His breaking ball looked like Smoltz’s.
And this is the guy Gammons called a better free agent signing than CC?
Ace and Bruney deserve a ton of love too. Our pen stepped up HUGE.
Felt bad for Hinske since I thought that ball was dropping that Drew snagged.
Arod was pointing to his hip a lot in the scrum after the celebration. Girardi needs to sit him tomorrow.
Let’s hope we knock Laptops out of the game by the 4th tomorrow. Having to go to the pen early tomorrow for the Red Sox could effectively end their season and ruin their chances for the wild card as they will be paying for it all week long with a spent pen and rookie starter on Tuesday again.
Wow so imagine that.
AJ is heating up as the season goes along, like he normally does.
Tex started slow and got hot.
CC due to continue his annual trend of pitching his best in September????
newwwwwww yorrrrrrrrkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk……start spreading the news
The next thing of interest will be to see what Ortiz says tomorrow at his press conference.
I have to add this, if she reads this blog.
Thank You, Kate Hudson. IDK where we would be w/o you.

I think you are on to something. Now that i think about it, I remember some players making a joke about it. When A-Rod hit the HR in his return AB, all of the players grabbed their hips to mock him
“Betsy, I’m not writing off the Sox either. Billy Bats died easier in Goodfellas than they went down tonight. You should both be writing them off. 2 good pitchers and all the rest are terrible. No Papi. No Manny. Papelbon struggling often. Many core players hurt. Varitek is old. They’re terribly done. The only thing not stopping them this season is the Yankees resting on their laurels like you know they are going to do in typical fashion.
The play by Drew robbed Sterling of the chance to say: The Hinskes Win! Thaaaa Hinskes Wiin!!
Isin’t it nice to finally have a bench? If we need to rest guys and use Hinske/Hairston, I don’t cringe anymore.

hmmm Erica time was someone could guess the line just for kicks. Power has chenged you. insert winky emoticon
Just realized that with that home run ARod tied Harmon Killebrew for 9th place.
Funny part was Pedroia in the 8th when Hughes got him out. That flyout to left center would of been a cheap double in Fenway. I dont want to hear NESN keep crying about the new stadium like they did last night.
AJ really showed up tonight in a huge, huge game. Thoroughly impressed w/ this guy so far. He has earned that contract, so far. He has some guts.
From what I saw of Tazawa today, which was not impressive at all I would expect a series of memorable showdowns Igawa vs. Tawaza ……….. in AAA for years.
Sox are done. The only question is which one of the Rays/Rangers will capture the Wild Card.
Fun to be a Yankees fan
Not only is it the best team in years, it is the most likeable, maybe ever.
dennis,
again – thanks for the posts. we really do appreciate them.
my comments were really primarily directed at other yankee fans.
It’s not even so much about the sox – but about the ship jumping and misanthropy shown by too many spoiled yankee fans who have no patience or long term vision.
It’s a very tough time for you guys – I said this to Brian before – you guys have a very good team. That hasn’t changed.
The biggest thing right now is whether you get back Wakefield soon. To me that’s the key piece for you guys now. If you do the team will stabilize. The other key piece, unfortunately, becomes buchholz. He’ll have to step up.
If those things happen you’re team is going to right itself very quickly.
The substance doesn’t change. The perceptions do.
Too many yankee fans have gotten far too caught up in perception.
You yourself have had a better eye on what the yankees were than many yankee fans.
Try to get some sleep.
This will be a great “Yankees Classic” on yes network for years to come.
Funny how SJ shows up win the Yankees win…
Why does Jeter have his sunglasses clipped to his shirt? It’s 1 in the morning!!
TOMORROW’S LINEUP: (if i’m manager).
(1) Damon-LF
(2) Jeter-SS
(3) Matsui-DH
(4) Teixeira-1B
(5) A-Rod-3B
(6) Cano-2B
(7) Swisher-RF
(8) Melky-CF
(9) Molina-C
Congrats, Pete.
I didn’t count your updates, but there were 4100+ comments in the 4 game threads.
Don’t forget…. Big Papi’s news conference is tomorrow before the game.
GLove, you were at the game? Wow………..How cool of AJ to get a well-deserved standing O and obviously he appreciated it. That’s nice to see……….5 plus hours at a ball game? wow………..
The guys just played 2 straight games basically – they’re exhausted. Alex will sit tomorrow and so will Jorge – we’ll see how they do against Bucholz, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they are a bit off their games offensively.

Btw, I’m visiting Boston this weekend for the first time in my life (live in NJ). Couldn’t have picked a better time to go up there.
So when do they start talking about the Sox inability to beat the good teams???? Haha. The Rays own them, Yankees have looked good here. Texas owns them. They actually haven’t taken a series from a quality team in like two month, last one I can see is the Phillies in mid June.
thanks for the audio PEL ! Much appreciated.
Have a good morning people
“Mission accomplished.”
And, we are only haf way thru the series.
We will sweep the series and bury them for good.
Uncle E-
I may be power hungry-
But I do not want people upset with me when this doesn’t count towards their standings. I have official “GTLU” rules. And without rules there is chaos!
Despite the 15 inning game, both bullpens are in decent shape.
Boston used guys for only 1 inning. None of their relievers threw more than 25 pitches. Bard/Papelbon/Ramirez threw under 20. Everyone should be available for them.
For us, Hughes/Rivera will be available. Robertson and Melancon will as well. Bruney/Aceves/Coke probably won’t be.
new thread
I’m still waiting for Burnett to throw a CG shutout so someone can pie him…
Also, this might be lost with all the talk of today’s great pitching, but Hinske continued to be outstanding today. I believe he had 3 plate appearences, and he walked twice and hit that bullet to RF. He and Hairston were great additions.
Hey, just noticed that Rebecca’s missing. Did she go to the game?
Sox pen is not in good shape.
Most of their guys are one inning pitchers. Two games ago they had to use 6 relief pitchers again in a game. Why do you think they left Traber in so long yesterday????
They also have Bucholz going tomorrow who hasn’t gone any sort of distance at all since coming back up.
Yankees pen in great shape. Hughes one batter, Mo will be there, Mleancon and Robertson not even used and CC on the mound who goes deep into games
I confess my love for AJ Burnett
Pete i’m sorry i’m a big yankees fan and am trying to enjoy the win in this great great game but AROD was clearly grabbing his hip and in discomfort at the end of that HR. For none of u journalist to ask about it in the post game press conference is just a terrible job. now i have to wait til tomorrow until i read that he was hurt. the question is how bad?
See the report below on Tazawa before he got signed, that scout should be fired.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the Braves have offered Japanese right-hander Junichi Tazawa an MLB contract.
So far the Braves appear to be the only team that’s made him a concrete offer, but the Red Sox are expected to soon follow suit. The newspaper quotes “one major league team official” comparing Tazawa to Tim Hudson “with a better curveball,” but even Hudson was still in the minors as a 22-year-old.
TEX handed LAA it’s bootay on a platter 11-6
ATL-5 LAD-5 middle of 11th(If LAD lose,Yankees should have best record)
Only 2 games separating RS and Tampa, who is still playing now
Tampa-6 Sea-5 middle of the 11th (If Tampa wins RS will have a game on them only
Rays take the lead and then lose. Yankees create some more distance.
Rays just lost a bright spot for RS.
A-Rod always holds his hip after a every walk-off this year.
Oh boy LAD has 2 on,bot 11,tied game 5-5
