Joba Chamberlain wasn’t sharp but the Yankees beat the Blue Jays. Josh Thomson has the story.

Brett Gardner has hit cast off and is getting close to coming back. This notebook also has updates on Chad Gaudin’s possible start, a rarity for Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada and a little pre-game justice.

I donLt know to what he’s refering, but the first review in MLB history was A-Rods last year in Tampa. Maybe Posada is the first one to have two reviewed.

one thing though, they’re relying to much on the HR’s lately.

Did anyone else see youk get tossed on his ear by the pitcher. I have lost all respect for that oaf.

  4. Betsy August 12th, 2009 at 8:18 am

I’ll take wins via the HR than losses without the HR. Why do we always have to find something to moan about? On Sunday night, we put the game away with a bunch of hits. Last night, we put the game away with a bunch of hits. The Yankees put good swings on the ball and hit the ball hard – when you do that, sometimes balls will leave the park.

“As for the yo-yo technique the Yanks are employing with Joba’s presence in the rotation, Posada said: “It’s tough what he’s been going through. He doesn’t know when he’s going to pitch. It’s tough to mentally put it all together. I think he’s doing everything he can to stay focused, but it’s tough.””

Based on these comments I find it frustrating that Girardi is telling the media his plans before the player. Whatever the situation is Joba needs to just deal with it and go out there and pitch but Girardi doesn’t need to make it any harder by allowing Joba to find out the plan from reporters asking questions. If he wants to wait until after a start to let Joba know the deal then he should wait to tell the media as well. I think (obviously) Girardi has done an excellent job with the team this year, so this is a minor gripe but it seems like an easy one to correct IMO.

“one thing though, they’re relying to much on the HR’s lately.”

Nothing wrong with homers. Be a lot worse if they had to rely on three singles to score a tying or go ahead run.

Don’t like how they’re handling Joba. I understand the innings thing, but starting pitchers tend to be creatures of habit and that groove that Joba was in for the 2nd half of July seems gone.

I don’t get MY9 so I recorded the encore and watched the 8th before going to work…Matsui’s HR- WOW!!! I loved the Happy Birthday chants for Melky :)

  8. Rick August 12th, 2009 at 8:26 am

Joba is wound up too tight when he’s pitching or even on days off when leaning on the dugout rail.
Girardi has to get that key out of his back. If he had the cool demeanor of Phil Hughes it would make a difference.

Hi Everyone. I will be able to start GTLU at 8:30 today. Before I do, I would like to take this time to post updated official rules:

    1) “Guess the Line Up” will only be played during weekdays when I am at work. I never said I was a model employee
    2) For 7pm starts, the submission window is from 2-3:40. Any line ups posted after 3:40 will NOT be counted. I will start enforcing this. For 1pm starts, the submission window is from 9am-10am.
    3) Once Pete posts a new thread DO NOT post your line up on an old one. I may miss it. It is your responsibility to check to see if your name is on the list of line ups submitted
    4) When you submit your line up you should include players and positions. Please check your line up before you post it. You should have exactly 9 players and positions. Anything else is an incomplete line up and will not be entered into consideration.
    5) Absolutely no revisions allowed. I was nice about this in the past, but it really does cause me confusion. I will no longer allow them going forward. Check your line up before you post it.
    6) If your handle is a body part, a bodily function, or a euphemism for a body part of function, I will ignore you and ban you.
That’s all the rules I can think of for now. But I reserve the right to add more or change the rules as I go along. It is my made up game

“Did anyone else see youk get tossed on his ear by the pitcher. I have lost all respect for that oaf.”

He didn’t really. He over ran Porcello and ended up pulling him down on top of him. This one makes me wonder about Jim Leyland. Guy is in a battle to win a division and is pulling this stuff? Young kid has a 3-0 lead in an important game and he’s throwing at people? Always thought of Leyland as a great manager, but that was just dumb.

Matsui missed the Kangaroo court…………I suspect he will be assessed a heavy fine the next time the court is in session, lol

  14. Ramey - Traded his Girlfriend to the Pirates for a PTBNL August 12th, 2009 at 8:33 am

    Erica-

    Jeter – SS
    Swisher – 1b
    Damon – Lf
    Arod – 3b
    Matsui – Dh
    Cano – 2b
    Cabrera – Cf
    Hairston – Rf
    Molina – C

And putting hairston in rf was very hard, considering hinske was 2 for 3 with a homer off romero last time. i just don’t think girardi loves him enough to play him twice in a row!

  15. Rex August 12th, 2009 at 8:35 am

By the way, was Ryan Rayburn looking at his watch when all that Porcello/Youkilis stuff was going on? How did he not get in front of Porcello, who was running towards 1B, before Youkilis did?

  16. Dr. Cox August 12th, 2009 at 8:36 am

    A. He absolutely got tossed by Porcello. He ran at him, Porcello ran back to set himself and as Youk came to charge at him Porcello TOTALLY took him down.

    B. Leyland is an old school, hard-nosed manager. Hes nto going to sit idle when his players are getting plunked. I didnt lose an ounce of respect for him and feel that more managers and pitchers (especailly in the AL) need to start protecting their batters.

    Rex-

If you see on the video, rayburn went for a tackle on youkilis and whiffed terribly

  18. jennifer August 12th, 2009 at 8:41 am

Today on Boomer and Carton, or as I like to say stupid jock, and guy who wishes he was a jock. said that the Yankees announced that Joba has 39 innings left before the end of the season. Did they say this? I haven’t heard or read it any where. I know 160 is what they (the media) thinks the total is. But did Joe actually come out and say this?

  19. upstate kate August 12th, 2009 at 8:42 am

    Erica-

    SS Jeter
    LF E’s PBF
    1B Tex
    DH Matsui
    C Posada
    2B Cano
    RF Swish
    CF Melky
    3B Pena- A-rod needs a day off

    Thanks

    I should just copy Ramey’s list :)

  20. Rex August 12th, 2009 at 8:45 am

    Dr Cox:

Leyland was an idiot…only dumber. Cabrera was obviously not hit on purpose. Took one off the hands on a pitch he started to swing at. With a 3-0 lead, in a game you need to win, you play to win the game rather than get into petty crap. He did Porcello and his team no favors last night and lost a game in the standings as a result.

  21. Erica - always OPPC August 12th, 2009 at 8:45 am

Ramey & Upstate Kate, you are in

Where is everyone today? I have two cups of coffee and I am ready to go!

Youkilis will now be suspended for 4-6 games. Depending on the appeal process he may miss some of the Yankee series. Good work, idiot.

  23. Coach6423 August 12th, 2009 at 8:48 am

I think he is referring to Posada being the 1st to have 2 HR reviewed.

What exactly will Youk appeal? No, I did not charge the mound or throw my helmet at someone??

The Sox will tell him not to appeal so that his suspension won’t interfere with the Yankee series

He’ll appeal you can bet your last dollar on that.

Totally disagree. When Joba was having his problems in the first half he was not showing his emotions, not fist pumping or yelling, even when he made big outs. Joba needs to be Joba. Trying to change his sttitude takes away the edge that he seems to use to push himself.

Joba’s biggest problems start when he allows runners to get on and then goes into slow down mode.

Skipping a few starts might not be a bad idea for him, but the Yankees should have him go visit his home for a couple of days during that. I think that had more to do with him getting back to pitching well. With him its a mental balance.

    Wax on, wax off?

  29. Abdababdaserser August 12th, 2009 at 8:58 am

Even if Youkilis appeals, there should not be a reduction in time for his suspension.

Youk is a wimp. Sorry, but the man always over reacts to being pitched inside and to being hurt. He can’t take it.

I am not convinced, unlike nESPN talking heads, that Porcello intentionally hit him. MLB network seems to take that view as well.

Youkilis always whines and complains about strikeouts, pitches inside, and goes into full drama queen mode when he is hit.

  30. Abdababdaserser August 12th, 2009 at 8:59 am

    Rex… exactly.
