Wang does his part to help Taiwan

Chien-Ming Wang, as you know, is out for the season after having shoulder surgery. But he’s not standing on the sidelines.

In the wake of last weekend’s typhoon that hit southern Taiwan, Wang has donated $85,000 to the Red Cross. He also organized an auction of autographed items from Taiwanese players in the United States that helped raise an additional $1.3 million.

This blog has a lot of readers in Taiwan and I’ve been fortunate to meet a lot of nice people from there. Here’s hoping that they and their families are doing OK after the storm.

Thanks for that, Pete. I’ve been thinking about the good people of Taiwan too, best wishes to all of them.

Thanks for this, Pete. We had a storm head our way, but it weakened considerably. Too bad this didn’t happen last weekend for Taiwan.

The personal donation is considerable, but I’m very impressed by the large amount generated by the auction.

Can’t wait to see Chien-Ming back on the field. I know he’s around, but it’s just not the same.

  3. Chili Davis

Wow, that’s impressive as hell on CMW’s part. Great job.

  4. Chase

I love Wang. He’s nothing but a class act.

  5. vinny-b (thankful to have Girardi in charge)

have to pass props to Lori Rubinson/WFAN.

was a captive audience at work last night (only had a radio), and Ms Rubinson made the night passable. In my view, she is as good as anyone on WFAN (not saying much i know :) Anyway, hopefully she will be on WFAN more often. As she really knows her **** when it comes to sports, and is very easy on the ears

“Marte was another brilliant Cashman signing. The guy pitches to a 5.40 era last year for the yanks and Cashman gives him a 3 year deal instead of just excercising his option for 1 year”

am a Cashman supporter, but even i can’t defend this

I love how ESPN (Exclusive Sox Patriots Network) has 3 storylines continuously scrolling along the bottom of the screen…one being the fact that the Red Sox defeated the Rangers…………strange, no mention in the scroll how Yanks won on Tex HR in 9th to go THIRTY games over .500….

Wang is a realo good person. Here’s to hoping that he can make a successful comeback with us.

  9. Paul

We are big CMW fans as I have 2 kids who were born in China. Our 3-year-old loves sporting his oversize CMW shirt and is always asking “Where’s Wang?” & “Wang see doctor?” We’re all looking forward to seeing CMW back on the hill for the Yanks next year.

Thanks for u guys support Wang so much.

  11. Scorpio

Nice to hear about CMW, hope his recovery is going well. I REALLY hope he’ll be a Yankee next season.

Best wishes to those in Taiwan.

  12. bodhisattva - Destiny Wears Pinstripes

Wang’s heart of gold never in doubt.

  13. Dennis from the Bronx

That’s a hell of a lot of money, considering the state of Wang’s career. He has no idea if he’ll ever get another significant contract. Here’s wishing him the best. If we had a healthy Wang, we would have buried Boston.

  14. yf

Thanks for thinking of us people in Taiwan. Really appreciate it. We are all praying for all those who survived the disaster and those who are still struggling to survive.

Wang is just a super person and generous also. Hope he is back with the Yankees next year. Best wishes to the people of Taiwan.

  16. Paul from Cali

Great to know Wang is as great a person as he is a pitcher.

C’Mon Yankee fans! Hundreds of comments to daily team reports about what scrub the Yankees will beat next, but only a handful to a story like this? Show Chien-Ming your support!

  17. Taiwanese

    thanks for supporting Taiwan !!

  18. Liu(a student)

    I’m a Taiwanese. (my English isn’t well!)
    I’m CMW fan,too.
This time, typhoon makes south of Taiwan looks very bad.
Though I live in north of Taiwan,I can feel those victims of a natural disaster’s mood.
I donate one thousand NT dollars for them.(I don’t have much money.)
    God bless Taiwan!
