    sounds good by me!

  2. TMarino August 18th, 2009 at 6:19 pm

Those matchups are very good for us, but I am worried about getting swept in Oakland fist.

  3. Jack West Jr August 18th, 2009 at 6:19 pm

Looks good for us. Looking forward to Sunday’s game. Hopefully we get something like the 15-inning affair last time, but shorter and the visiting team wins.

    Set up nicely.

They can really put a few nails in the coffin of the Sox by going into Fenway and doing some damage. A sweep could be devastating to them.

  5. Mark H August 18th, 2009 at 6:20 pm

With the off day yesterday they could flip flop Lester and Penny.

  6. David August 18th, 2009 at 6:21 pm

Take the next 2 in Oakland… don’t take a step back.

  7. JimmyH August 18th, 2009 at 6:22 pm

I highly doubt Francona lets those match ups stand without some tinkering.

If the offense hits like it has been hitting this week, Tawza and Penny could throw good games against us.

Boooo! I’m going down to Boston to see Saturday’s game, and low and behold, I get to see a AA pitcher from Portland, in Tazawa. As many of you may know, Portland is the home of the Seadogs – Boston’s AA affiliate. I’ve seen Tazawa pitch several times this year. I was hoping to see someone else. On the bright side, I also get to see Burnett.

A Sweep would throw some dirt on bostons grave

  11. Arnold August 18th, 2009 at 6:24 pm

I don’t think there is any chance Penny starts in game 1 when they can flip flop him and Lester.

I understand Penny threw a good game against us and our offense is sputtering right now, but why even risk it if you are Francona?

Wow, those are some pretty attractive matchups. The Beckett vs. CC should be a big one. Would love for CC to be going for a sweep. The Yankees could easily put the Sox away taking 2 of 3 or a sweep. A sweep could send them quite a bit back in the wild card race as well. They have a bunch of games against the Rays who typically own them now.

I do feel like Theo has tossed the towel in a bit. I said since the beginning of the year their starting pitching was fairly thin no matter what anyone said. Wakefield’s back prevents him from pitching a full season anymore and he is and has been the anchor of that staff. No one saw Dice K going down, but who saw him having a great year? Smoltz was 40 and off of shoulder surgery. Penny is well Penny. There is no one they can go on an extended winning streak with Tazawa and Penny in the rotation.

Sox fans have to face it, they have become the Yankees after the championships. Getting older, talent out of the minors becoming more sparse and void of superstars. Free agents to plug holes. Beckett’s a year away from free agency and they have key spots to replace at catcher, 3 starters more than likely, maybe a closer if they don’t pay Paps (Bard maybe), 3rd base or 1st? And people complain about Melky/Gardner, sorry Ellsbury is the 2009 version of Juan Pierre. Ortiz is what Giambi became, but maybe worse.

  13. The Phranchise August 18th, 2009 at 6:27 pm

Tazawa another overhyped Japanese pitcher. Not sure what is so special about him. He looks like a watered down Dice K. The couple games he has pitched, even the outs are smoked.

I am catching up on line up submissions-

3 minutes to get yours in for “Guess the Line Up”

Oh- and if you think you are being clever and coming up with handles that sound dirty when you say them- I am ignoring your line up.

  15. E-gawa August 18th, 2009 at 6:27 pm

nothing less than a sweep. I’d like to see them clinch early this season.

  16. number18 August 18th, 2009 at 6:30 pm

    PHENOMENAL!

  17. Erica - always OPPC August 18th, 2009 at 6:31 pm

No more line up submissions for today’s GTLU

  18. Trevor August 18th, 2009 at 6:36 pm

Why would the RS flip Lester and Penny? They should worry about winning as many games as they can. They can’t over look the Blue Jays. Jays could hit. and they’re behind in the WC.
For them it should be winning games not worry about tinkering for pitching matchups against the Yankees.

  19. yup yup August 18th, 2009 at 6:38 pm

Does anyone have the pitching matchups for the upcoming White Sox series?

  20. southern new yorker August 18th, 2009 at 6:39 pm

thanks for posting that, woke up this morning trying to figure out the pitching matchups

  21. Yankees Fan From Canada August 18th, 2009 at 6:51 pm

love the match up…GO YANKEES GO.

  22. yup yup August 18th, 2009 at 6:59 pm

HEY PETE, CAN YOU DO BE A BIG FAVOR? CAN YOU PLEASE FIND OUT WHO IS PITCHING FOR THE YANKEES IN THE UPCOMING WHITE SOX SERIES? I AM PREPARED TO SPEND BIG MONEY TO GO TO THE STADIUM, BUT I DONT WANT TO WASTE MY HARD EARNED MONEY TO SEE MITRE OR GUADIN. Its very important and I would appreciate it very much if you could find out this information.

    Let’s not look ahead ….

Still business to take care of in Oakland. A win is a win is a win, whether against the A’s or the Red Sox. Take them each one at a time.

  24. JH August 18th, 2009 at 7:48 pm

    lol @ penny and tazawa

  25. Bill August 18th, 2009 at 8:40 pm

Looks like we get the best of the pitching matchup again. And we don’t have to watch Beckett vs Burnett this time around. I was getting kind of tired of seeing those two matchup. C.C. Beckett should be a fun one.

  26. ErikSec. 309 August 18th, 2009 at 9:59 pm

Advantage us in the first 2…..Great battle in game 3. Can’t wait, but let’s not look ahead.

  27. Anthony August 19th, 2009 at 12:34 pm

First two games could be a trap. The Yankees better come prepared to win and not sleepwalk since they have the advantage in pitching matchups.

  28. Sam Kay August 19th, 2009 at 2:59 pm

I’m looking to swap 4 Yankees/Red Sox tickets for this Sunday’s game AT FENWAY for 4 Yankees/Red Sox tickets in NY on September 26. Anyone interested?
