Game 120: Yankees at Athletics, Part II
Lots of comments deep into the night, so let’s start a second thread.
Yankees lead 7-2 in the seventh.
UPDATE, 12:37 a.m.: Not Adam Kennedy’s day. He’s 0 for 4 with four K’s.
Meanwhile, the other leadoff hitter is 3 for 5. Jeter is 12 of his last 25. He’s hitting .330.
CC is at 90 pitches with two outs in the eighth. They could let him finish this one in front of all his friends and family. He deserves it.
UPDATE, 12:52 a.m.: No complete game for CC and now Dave Robertson has walked the first two he faced.
UPDATE, 12:57 a.m.: Girardi has Mariano up now. Seems a little much.
UPDATE, 12:58 a.m.: Back later with clubhouse reaction. Carsten Charles will be quite pleased, I’m sure.

A’S defense tonight is not good……
I’d like to take the time to give love to Brian Cashman for building a much better bench that what we started with in the beginning of the season and a much better bullpen
congrats for bein first Uke…great accomplishment..anyways
CC looks like CC of last year tonight!
Any chance Gaudin can pull a Tomko tomorrow?
Derek Jeter crushed two of those balls that were errors, could easily be 5 for 5
Damon not so Demon-like in that AB.
Don’t use up all your runs tonight Yankees… save some for Gaudin tomorrow.
Difference between the ball Jeter just hit and Damon just hit…….intangibles.
Like the heads up Pete of the new post. Normally sit forever on the old one. Not that half the things I might post people care to read anyway haha.
if CC is super efficient he might get a CG…most likely 8 innings
what about the funk? what about the sputtering?
News of Jeter’s “Gangsterness” has spread. Players are afraid to field his grounders because they don’t know what the consequences will be.
Is this the first time a game post has been split in two? I don’t remember this happening before (at least, before this summer. I’ve been away from a computer for most of the summer)
Rays only 3 out. Sox Rays series for the rest of the year should be interesting to say the least.
Really can see them beating each other up and the Rangers take advantage of the weak teams out West during that time.
Bronx Jeers,
Oh yeah he was a qb in high school, Doug M was the tight end on the team I think.
Melissa happened with most of the Red Sox games that were just played.
“what about the funk? what about the sputtering?”
Safe for one night.
Don’t worry though, if we happen to lose tomorrow, we get 2 days of hearing about how we’re in a deep funk going into Boston.
“Is this the first time a game post has been split in two? ”
No, Pete started doing this during the BOS series. It worked well.
“Nick in SF at Yankee Stadium

Total domination. Fughetaboutit.
Yankee banners all over the park. We own this dump.
LoHud meetup at the Westside Club mid-7th.”
I don’t know what the Westside Club is – but it sounds dangerous. Beware of Sharks and Jets.
From the other thread -
Next year penciling in Damon as a DH would be ideal. He could be a 5th outfielder and would keep another LH bat in the line up.
I’d really like to see them sign damon as a DH and bring in a new LF.
===================
CB – I hear what you’re saying, and I agree. But, if there was any way to bring back Matsui, I’m all for it. He is our “MR. CLUTCH.” And, as you have already stated, it’s no secret this offense went into a funk when he was out.
Those kinds of players give value way beyond the numbers. He’s like the sixth man in basketball, when he comes in he sparks the offense. I hope they keep him, bad legs and all.
Everidge looks like the evil Eric Hinske with that Goatee
How much does Everidge weigh????? 244 according to Yahoo. Looks bigger than that
CC scares me each time he sticks his hand out like that
Aww man, he didn’t strike out sweeny for the 4th time
The Phranchise
Bear Paws. Hes ok.
I realize that Everidge is a big guy, but goodness, Suzuki could run with Melky on his back again and probably beat Everidge down the first base line.
Cool. Thanks Uke and Laura.
Bear paws fine, Broken fingers, not so fine.
Alright, guys! I’ve got to hit the road. It’s a long drive to Cleveland.
This game looks well in hand. I’ll say a prayer for Gaudin tomorrow night.
‘Night!
80 pitches for CC
Maybe we can get Pete to get the ball rolling with the politicking and campaigning of Jeter For MVP.
This issue effects all of us!
Do we want another hick from Minny or do we want our very own, home grown Captain, Legend and Icon?????
The Phranchise August 19th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Bear paws fine, Broken fingers, not so fine.
Naw just paws no fingers
No problem, it makes refreshing the page faster and also helps out those who are using a mobile phone
CC should of nailed Suzuki in the head. A little head hunting will stop teams from always hitting A-Rod.
I don’t know what the Westside Club is – but it sounds dangerous. Beware of Sharks and Jets.
good one. DT’s humor always appreciated
Something I just noticed:
CC K’d 5 batters in the first two innings. He just has 1 K since. Rather strange, don’t you think?
Repost:
“WHo would you use in LF? Nady? Figgins? One of the bigger names?”
Mo,
It’s a very good question. One guy who I definitely wouldn’t go after at all is Jason Bay.
He’s been figured out in the AL some and his RH stroke is built for Fenway. It would be death at yankee stadium.
I’d actually kick the tires on Matt Holliday. And I only say that because I really wonder what kind of deal he gets in this market.
I’d basically see if I could get him for a deal that values him for what he probably is – an .850 – .875ish LF. Something like 3 yrs/ 39M.
Now that might be completely off base. But I think there is absolutely no way he gets anywhere close to say even $80M.
I’d look at him. And that’s partly because I think the opportunity cost of waiting for Carl Crawford might be too high.
If Holliday gets anymore expensive than say $40M I’d say goodbye.
If Figgins would take a one year deal I’d consider him too.
Otherwise I think I’d try to make a trade.
There’s Teixeira saving another potential double.
His hitting is great, but it’s his defense that makes him special.
As CB said on the other thread, without him this team is not in first place.
If Jeter continues his torrid hitting he very well could be a big name in that race, the fact that his defense is better than it has been in 5 years helps too
Good job CC.
I think time to sleep.
Goodnight everyone, sweet dreams.
Next time Melky should at least buy him a drink before trying to be that aggressive.
CC at 80 after 7 – looks like he can finish it off and save up the pen. I do love that about him.
CC can pitch to contact when he wants. He’s in complete control against a below-average offensive team. No need to strike everyone out. It saves pitches.
Jeter has 79 runs scored, 15 HRs and 53 RBIs to go along with his .330 AVG and .400 OBP looks better than Pedroia’s MVP year
CB,
I agree with you about signing someone to be the dedicated DH. I don’t see the need to have Posada DH 80 games next year. He can still catch.
I would consider bringing back Damon on a 1-3 year deal to play LF next year and DH beyond that. Then sign Matsui to a 1 year deal as a DH. You lose a little defense with Damon in LF again but he can still handle it. Matsui is on his last legs but he is still an impact bat.
I know it doesn’t accomplish the goal of getting younger but those two guys have been so good for us this year. If they would sign short term deals I’d find that very appealing.
I am going to bed too!!!! Good night Yankee people!!!
There will be no further postings from Erica tonight
Jeter’s going to cost Tex the MVP by splitting the vote. But dat’s okay. Joe Mauer can spend October polishing his award.
“CC at 80 after 7 – looks like he can finish it off and save up the pen. I do love that about him.”
Save the pen? Why? AJ threw a CG yesterday.
Oh, yeah, Gaudin tomorrow…still, it’s not like they don’t have a day off on Thursday.
Anyhoo, no real need to save the pen, but it does look like Sabathia might go the distance. Nice to have everybody available for tomorrow with no fear of wearing them out before the Boston series.
“I am going to bed too!!!! Good night Yankee people!!!
There will be no further postings from Erica tonight ”
Women…always leaving when you’re UP or DOWN…
Love the Betemit comment. Used to watch him leave the stadium in his Ferarri. AROD stike out…
Imagine that..Jorge in a big SUV and Betemit in a Ferrari. Wonder who owns the Ferrari today?
well if Erica has gone to bed, they might as well pull Damon now.
I doubt the Cards would let Holliday go. He is too valuable as protection for Pujols. It will help them re-sign their franchise player.
The Commish!
Does anyone know what the answer was to the Trivia quesiton tonight? It was “What Yankee Starter would you most like to have on the mound after a loss? Joba, Pettitte, CC or AJ?”
I ask because I thought this was a very intriguing question.
How much do you appreciate Texeria after watching Mr. Hamm out there at first.
Hinkse as a pinch runner?
How often do you think that has happened in his career? I can’t think it’s happened more than once or twice.
Gaudin was traded away by the A’s.
Maybe not the same vengeance factor as Tomko getting cut but you never know.
If you put a gun to my head and said, “Make a decision, Damon or Matsui for next years DH!” I’m picking Matsui.
Damon has been great, but Matsui is the perfect DH. I say sign Matsui, and say goodbye to Johnny.
I would take Holliday at that price. He has quietly turned his season around, now OPS ing at .913, and has always been a very underrated fielder. Pretty much every fielding metric has liked him in LF for a while.
If he gets more expensive, which I expect, I wouldn’t mind a one year flier on guys like Nady, Cameron, or Figgins. None will replace Matsui, but they should help enough.
These late night games are just brutal
Dave
CC
Pepi,
Like you I love Matsui. He’s such a good hitter.
And under other circumstances I’d definitely bring him back for a year – even if he was strictly limited to DH due to being generally slow or unathletic.
But at this point it would be taking on too much risk. There’s no way to be confident that Matsui’s knee blows up and he’s out for the year like he was last year.
The probability of that is just too high. I just can’t see it real likely that he’ll stay relatively healthy two years in a row.
It’s really unfortunate. Being the Iron Horse of Japan wrecked his career and probably doomed him to live with a lot of pain for the rest of his life.
The Answer was CC ….he had like 44% of the vote
“If you put a gun to my head and said, “Make a decision, Damon or Matsui for next years DH!” I’m picking Matsui.”
Thank you!!! I agree wholeheartedly.
Let’s C what CC can do in the 8th.
Dave,
answer was 46% cc, then pettitte at like 26%, Aj, and joba had like 6% I think
I don’t think we should go for Holliday. Kicking the tires could prove to be an expensive mistake. I know that Oakland’s a graveyard for hitters, so I can’t judge him too harshly. But he’s loving life back in the NL. He’s hitting something around .500 since joining the Cards.
I’d rather go with a stop gap like Damon or Figgins, and try to corral Carl Crawford if he hits free agency.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Abreu stick with the Angels.
If you put a gun to my head, I pick JD….
“Dave
CC”
Ok thanks a lot Pat. I guess my interest was piqued because my heart said Andy, but I guess times have changed.

Quick question. I’m watching the game on mute, what is that star or whatever that YES keeps focusing on?
“Gaudin was traded away by the A’s.
Maybe not the same vengeance factor as Tomko getting cut but you never know.”
Maybe Lt. Go Dan could borrow Tomko’s chip on his shoulder. He doesn’t need it anymore.
“Dave,
answer was 46% cc, then pettitte at like 26%, Aj, and joba had like 6% I think”
Ah, ok that makes me feel better. There’s still a huge part of me that prefers Andy. I guess that’s just my bias talking.
We should all pitch in to get Nick in SF in Oakland a seat behind home plate.
Wouldn’t you guys pay to see Nick?
“Quick question. I’m watching the game on mute, what is that star or whatever that YES keeps focusing on?”
That was Jupiter. I thought that was an incredibly cool piece of camera work by YES.

I disagree Matsui has knee problems they are only going to get worse. Damon has more speed and can also still play the outfield.
Pete,
That is cold about Wilson and the College Co-Eds but absolutely hillarious. I love it. Go Yanks. October can’t get here soon enough.
Now CC should hit KURT
Matsui said hes going back to Japan with his wife and baby.
“If you put a gun to my head and said, “Make a decision, Damon or Matsui for next years DH!” I’m picking Matsui.”
Their numbers are very similar. Damon might have a slight edge but he’s got more AB’s as well.
But Damon could be primary DH and play LF. Matsui needs time off and he only DH’s.
Health-wise, Damon is the right choice.
I love Matsui, but the writing’s on the wall. But at least he wasn’t afraid of it.
It’s really unfortunate. Being the Iron Horse of Japan wrecked his career and probably doomed him to live with a lot of pain for the rest of his life.
============
Yes, it is a shame that a man who gave so much to the game may have to give it up for health reasons.
However, if the Yankee doctors gave him a thumbs up for one more year, I say sign him. You cannot replace a hitter like that. He’s a perfect DH, and he makes a significant contribution to the team’s success. In the clubhouse and on the field.
Oh, and like I said on the other thread; my MVP candidate for 2009? Mariano Rivera, hands down!
Just let CC finish the game! This isn’t Joba!
great game by CC…id take him out just to save bullets but if he gets the CG, good for him!
Okay, fans. Does CC come back for the 9th???
CC must go for the CG…Joe needs his pen for tommorow and Boston
I have a question – what embarrasses you more – the Nationals series or the loss last night to Brett Tomko?
He should. But it doesn’t look like it, huh?
They should let him go for the CG and standing O.
Dave August 19th, 2009 at 12:43 am
I have a question – what embarrasses you more – the Nationals series or the loss last night to Brett Tomko?
Def Nats…It was at home
Worst case scenario for Girardi. Robertson struggles in the 9th and Joe has to go to Mariano.
Don’t let CC finish the game! Didn’t you see him turn an ankle last inning? That shot back to the box? He was fine, sure, but why risk it at all?
CC has sucked in the playoffs because he was tired from all the innings he pitched.
No need to squeeze 9 innings out of him in a blowout game when we have a rested pen and an off-day before Boston.
Save those bullets for CC to use in the playoffs.
“I would take Holliday at that price. He has quietly turned his season around, now OPS ing at .913, and has always been a very underrated fielder.”
Mo,
Part of the reason why I’m interested in Holliday is because he runs well and has good range.
LF at the stadium is very, very large so having a guy with range is a big plus. That’s one of the reasons why I don’t want them to sign Bay. He’s a horrible defender. Ever since he had those knee injuries in 2006 he really can’t field anymore. His range is shot.
I agree with you that Holliday has really turned his season around – and probably saved his free agency. I have a feeling he’ll be inclined to sign in the NL if the money is close.
I do like Cameron. I’d consider him as well.
JeterJobaFanForever,
I’ll say that CC doesn’t come back out, but I had already seen him shake Pena’s hand before commenting. I cheated.
“Now CC should hit KURT”
Just say No. How about he takes a W and leaves the suspension to someone else…..
“Joe needs his pen for tommorow and Boston”
Off day Thursday.
Damon says he wants to return. He may actually mean it this time, and he could be good enough as a place holder in Left, shorter term deal.
I wouldn’t look at Nady. He is coming off surgery and while he may be cheap he may be a hole in the outfield.
I like the way Holliday plays. He plays hard, but will probably cost too much.
Crawford may end up being traded this off season or depending on where the Rays stand, during the season next year. They won’t have the money to re-sign him unless he gives a BIG discount.
It will be interesting to see what moves the various clubs will make this off season due to the economy, and the obvious problems they have in their clubs.
You can’t blink when Cano comes up to bat…you will most likely miss his at bat….
Dave,
I don’t know why everyone, including Pete, was making such a big deal out of it.
Dude pitched a good game. On a pitch count. People need to move on. Guaranteed that the players have.
“We should all pitch in to get Nick in SF in Oakland a seat behind home plate.
Wouldn’t you guys pay to see Nick?”
Actually I would do that but he’s got to bring giant cue cards and write comments on them that we can see.
And he must give me at least one Holbrook reference.
“Def Nats…It was at home”
This is true. I should have refined the question – what embarrasses you more – losing to Lannan or Tomko?
Full disclosure:
Earlier in the season, I said I did not think CC Sabithia was not an ace. He was not on the level of a Beckett or a Halladay.
Well, I admit I was wrong!
These last few games he has shown me something I didn’t think he had, the ace-like ability to stop a losing streak. Not only that, he has been lock down dominant!
C.C. Sabithia is an ACE. I admit when I have been wrong. Let it be written, let it be done.

Twas a joke…but, now that he’s out time to hit Nomar
Losing to Tomko was worse than the Nationals
“This is true. I should have refined the question – what embarrasses you more – losing to Lannan or Tomko?”
Lannan has a thing going with New York teams. What really hurt was losing to Craig Stammen.
I’ll trust Robertson with the five-run lead and grab some sleep. Good night everyone.
Lannan is pretty good tho
“Wouldn’t you guys pay to see Nick?”
only if he was miked up.
All that witty banter would be lost on the non lip readers.

Can Dustin Pedroia charge the mound when CC pitches please?
m
I agree without a doubt that the players have moved on – so maybe that makes the discussion irrelevant – but you heard girardi say “we know what to expect” – which wasn’t even remotely a “slip” – that was exactly what the fans were thinking too. It’s not a stretch, therefore, to think the team felt the same way.
Roberston has been big lately in high leverage spots…hopefully he has that same effectiveness in this spot..
“Okay, fans. Does CC come back for the 9th???”
Absolutely not. I would have liked them to take him out and not even have pitched the 8th.
They have a huge lead. Use it. Rest CC so he has more bullets in the post season.
CC was shot once the Brewers made the playoffs. That’s why he was so bad.
And he’s on pace to throw over 250 innings again this year.
He should throw as few pitches as possible from here on out.
AJ gave them length yesterday.
Not bad from the yankees top 2 – in back to back games they’ve thrown 16 innings and given up 5 runs.
“Actually I would do that but he’s got to bring giant cue cards and write comments on them that we can see.”
I’m in for $20 if he wears a Cal Bears costume.
Get ready to see Mariano
not good
“Get ready to see Mariano”
Yep. Should have just left in CC.

Gaudin was traded away by the A’s.
Maybe not the same vengeance factor as Tomko getting cut but you never know.
______
Gaudin came to the Yankees from the Padres, not the A’s. The A’s did trade him to the Cubs last season, however.
I agree. It’s the right move to take CC out. He will be pitching Sunday, giving him only four days rest in what will likely be a much more stressful start. Save the bullets.
Robertson STRIKES please. You never know if he is going to have command or not. He has been better recently but…
Dave,
It’s definitely disappointing if the team thought they’d get an easy win because Tomko sucked with inherited runners.
But if we win tomorrow, then it’ll really mean nothing.
Dave Robertson seems as surprised as we are. 5 straight balls.
Interesting – Nomar’s pre-at bat ritual was significantly shorter than it was during the majority of his “good years”
Now they have to get Hughes warmed up lol what a disaster
This is a joke that Hughes has to get up. Then Mo…Just bring in Bruney
this is kinda disheartening to see…d-rob has been so good of late…
I think Robertson is trying to get Mo a save. Two more on and it’s a save situation.
“I’m in for $20 if he wears a Cal Bears costume.”
LOL…me too but the real Oski might get upset.
You know Girardi has got to be grinding his teeth down to nubs watching Robertson throw ball after ball.
unreal..is that my sister throwing pitches up there??
Oh boy, he has nothing.
Robertson is obviously too young and inexperienced for a 9th inning situation. This isn’t the 1st time he has done this.
Terrible BAD BAD BAD. What is so wrong with letting a pitcher pitch a complete game? Wheres Nolan Ryan when you need him? Cito? Anyone?
Wow. Walks continue to be Robertson’s undoing. Just when you thought this kid was getting it.
I’d rather Hughes pitch.
Grrr….This is J-Dawg’s fault.
Robertson still has plenty to work on
“But if we win tomorrow, then it’ll really mean nothing.”
I couldn’t agree more. I asked the question not because I was still bitter or whatever but because I thought it was an interesting context for discussion – the idea that one loss with your number 2 losing to a horrible former reliever might be more “embarrassing” than losing a game to the Nationals best pitcher during the undisputed low-point of the season
Whew. Wouldn’t want to see Scutaro v. Mo in this game.
“C.C. Sabithia is an ACE. I admit when I have been wrong. Let it be written, let it be done.”
Pepi,
Glad you’ve come around!
Watching the big man pitch is a pleasure.
It’s remarkable thing to watch a power pitcher throw so efficiently. The A’s hardly got the ball out of the infield other than the two jacks.
He has great stuff.
Two mistakes tonight but otherwise the A’s had no chance.
Why do people try and paint the corners? You have a 5 run lead in the 9th!! throw it down the middle!!
wow, how can you force Mo to get up? Hopefully this K settles down Robertson.
well Robertson is unavailable tommorow…thats what happens i guess
Come on Robertson. Please don’t make Mo have to really throw.
CC should’ve definitely ended the game.
Yes CC is an “ace”.
of course he was an ace long before he came to NY.
Should we discuss whether or not Albert Pujols is a star next?
i like how singleton just said that you know girardi is doing everything he can to keep mariano from getting into this game
Dave,
In a 162 game season, nothing surprises me. Not a loss to the Nationals, who are better than their record. Nor a loss to a major league pitcher.
The Nationals series was a low point in the seasons, where we were 1 dropped popup away from losing several bad series in a row.
No biggie, gotta ride out the lows and thank the baseball gods for the highs.
“missed the Holbrook refs though – from Wall Street?”
I think it started out form Wall Street. Somebody said something about the Yanks staring into the abyss which Holbrook’s character says in the movie. It started a long time ago. Last season.
So every now and then he’ll dust it off and break it out. A long running joke that gets me every time.
Come on 1 more…
Hard to believe this is the same guy who came in with the bases loaded in Seattle.
Wonder if he warmed up enough?
Since walking the first two batters on 8 pitches, Robertson has K’d two batters on 11 pitches. 9 strikes, just 2 balls.
when you stare into the Abyss and find nothing staring back at you that is when a man finds himself.
still don’t know what it means
GJ Robertson. Way to come back.
UPDATE, 12:57 a.m.: Girardi has Mariano up now. Seems a little much.

Pete…dont you know this is a must win????
Thanks for cutting the game off MLB.TV

He is a pleasure to watch, you really don’t appreciate the guy as much when you don’t see him that often. Moreover, for a man that size to move as well as he does out there is amazing. He’s a great pitcher and a terrific fielder.
CB, you’ve been following the Yankees for many years. Would you concur that this years free agent signings (Sabathia, Burnett, and Teixeira) are the best in Yankee free agent history? The only one’s closer are the Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter signings in the 70′s.
Girardi didn’t really have to start warming up Mo. That was a little panic move.
Definitely a fineable offense for Robertson.
And get him to the tanning booth. He and Morrow look like vampires.
Yes, back in the win column. Hopefully Halladay can give the Yanks an assist tomorrow…
if robertson could ever find even league average control…he would be nastttyyy….i like the guy regardless…
GG…hope the bats are alive to back gaudin tomorrow..
Wow Gordon Damer just asked Jeter the dumbest question. HE basically asked Jeter if Melky falling on Suzuki woke up the offense. LOL even Kim jones wouldn’t ask that.
When will manager’s realize that 5 run leads are not automatic?
Treat the game like it is still close. MO should have been in.
I can’t believe the Jays scored 9 runs and lost and they scored 7 off Beckett.
They should have won that game. So frustrating. Now watch them lose 2-1 games the next 2 nights.
“Wow Gordon Damer just asked Jeter the dumbest question. HE basically asked Jeter if Melky falling on Suzuki woke up the offense. LOL even Kim jones wouldn’t ask that.”
He was trying to get Jetes to laugh on camera, followed it up w/ are you ever going to want to go home.
BTW are we eliminated yet? Yankee offense must be doomed, CC can’t win in OAK…

Yeah that is kind of like the last thing with Robertson. His command has lately been much better but he does sometimes lose the plate. Once he gets that ironed out he will become a very good reliever.
Good win. Offense woke up (with the help of Oakland’s defense), CC got the monkey off his back. And we kept pace with the contenders that won today. Only Texas and the White Sox lost today.
Vikings players don’t seem too excited to have Mr. Importance join the team.
Hmmmm, could be an interesting football season in the land of 1,000 lakes.

Pepi,
It’s early but it does look that way. In fact, these might go down as some of the best signings by any team in the entire free agent era.
CC tied for the league lead in wins niiice big Ace
who here thinks Robertson is cute?
“It’s early but it does look that way. In fact, these might go down as some of the best signings by any team in the entire free agent era.”
You know what kills me? The fact that I’ve never felt so spoiled as a Yankee fan in my entire life.
Never in doubt!
We own this dump!
Pepitone,
From what I heard, the players expected him to come play. There was even talk they were bugging him. I think they’ll be more excited to play behind Favre than Jackson-fels.
Sabathia is not an ace. At least not anywhere near the level of one Josh Beckett.
His past struggles in Oakland were obviously in his head all night as evidenced by his performance this evening.
It’s a shame this guy doesn’t get his due compared to some of the elite pitchers from around the league.
If the Yanks had Josh Beckett this blog would say he wasn’t an Ace.

Wow, that’s quite a statement, but you could be right. I guess one would have to go back through the archives of free agent signings to measure these signings against the others.
CC conquered the stadium. He put on a clinic. Can his family come to all his next starts? What a phenomenal job by the whole team!
My main concern at this point is keeping the Angels off our back for best record in the AL. Wouldn’t want to start the ALCS in Anaheim.
“Sabathia is not an ace.”
I don’t know how to respond to that other than “yes he is.”
CMW wasn’t an ace despite his consistent high win totals. The hideous postseason performance vs the Indians and the subsequent injuries kind of put that discussion on hold. Yet with CC, you have a guy that has proven he can lead a staff/dominate during the regular season and during the post season – which is supposed to placate us Yankee fans.
“when you stare into the Abyss and find nothing staring back at you that is when a man finds himself.
still don’t know what it means”
“Man looks in the abyss, there’s nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss. ”
That’s the quote. I think it’s paraphrasing Nietzsche.
Anyway, that’s how it started.
Good win tonight. Another nail in the coffin. Now the Sox and their evil fans can wake up tomorrow and groan.
Let’s see what these guys do in the postseason before we declare them the best FA signings ever
Reggie Jackson won us the 76 WS
Jimmy Key, Wells, Cone, Clements etc. won us championships.
Let’s see what CC, AJ, Tex do in the playoffs. If they perform like A-Rod and Randy Johnson, then we will hate them.
“It’s a shame this guy doesn’t get his due compared to some of the elite pitchers from around the league.”
161 million isn’t getting his due?
So the Yankees stop that EPIC slump of losing 2 in a row and mustard 7 runs for tonight.
CC throws to protect his teammate.
Now I can get back to what everyone in the world really cares about
BRETT FARVE IS BACK! THANK YOU JESUS BRETT FARVE IS BACK… I CAN BREATHE!
“Man looks in the abyss, there’s nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss. ”
Alex
Dave,
That was all tongue in cheek. There’s no bigger supporter of Sabathia on this blog than me.
I simply make fun of people who continue to put Beckett on such a pedestal when Sabathia, in fact, has better career numbers and wasn’t the beneficiary of pitching in the NL for 5 years.

From the idiot fans. Not the Yankee front office.

Speak for yourself. Not everybody thinks like you do.
Reggie Jackson won us the 76 WS
==================
Uh, not quite. Jackson was signed prior to the 77 season. He was “Mr. October” during the Yanks 77 and 78 WS victories. However, he didn’t show up in the 81 series.
But, your point is well taken, let’s see how they do in the playoffs. I believe, however, they will be the difference this year. I believe they will lead this club to the 2009 WS Championship.
“From the idiot fans. Not the Yankee front office.”
Makes sense. I thought you meant baseball people in general.
Also, doesn’t it bother you when people say CC was only an ace when he pitched in the NL? It’s like they forget that he flat out beat Josh Beckett for the Cy Young in ’07 and put up a 3.20 ERA in his last 2 full seasons with the Indians.
CC did conquer this future Superfun site, but he had a fifth column of Yankee fans behind him.
The abyss?
Welcome to Oakland!
And get him to the tanning booth. He and Morrow look like vampires.

As a vampire, I got a kick out of this.
“Alex”
That would be a perfect example.
Nick you’re going to have do better than that if you want a LoHud sponsored free ticket behind the plate!
The DH next season should be Jim Thome. Matsui is going to be too injury prone, tho I do love him. Thome will see pitches, walk, and CRUSH at NYS.
Oops, Sorry. You caught me between posts. Missed your 1:20.
Let the collection begin!
I don’t know about this free ticket deal, is there a contest?
But we had the First Annual LoHud Yankee Stadium West meetup during the 7th/8th inning. Sparsely attended, but a good time was had by all.
Thanks Buddy Biancalana and Mad Prince in Pinstripes!
Who was clenching the Rose.
Nick, “M” though it was a good idea if we all chipped in and bought you a ticket in the front row behind the plate.
The only catch is that you have to bring a bunch of giant cue cards and post a “running commentary” that we can see on TV.
lol @ Swisher
Darn, I thought this was an official LoHud deal. But I’m in, I could change hats every inning. Just because I can.
Thanks for the beer, Buddy Biancalana!
When you arrive back in Larkspur, let us know
Nick & Mad Prince-
Nice to get to meet you guys. Even better topped off with a Yankees win.
