Looks like the yankees could get their first win at Fenway this season in game 1 or 2

  2. Jay T August 20th, 2009 at 2:04 pm

Good that the Yanks only have Beckett and not Lester too. We should be able to take 2 if not all 3. That would bury the Sox for good.

  3. BJ August 20th, 2009 at 2:04 pm

    Looks really good. Go Yanks!!!

    REPOST

That’s the thing Sardine can -

There is no good reason why Bloomberg stuck his nose in.

Publicity? Maybe. How does putting away a NY hero get you positive publicity.

Many studies prove deterrence is not effective.

    ————–

Guliani, while in office, tried to facilitate the NYY building a new stadium. It was theorized that he was trying to give a sweetheart deal to his favorite team by the media, notably Mike Lupica. Where were those to call Poopica a conspirist.

Im not sure why my opinions or beliefs get responded to by insults.

SJ44, i enjoy your reading your posts because they are very knowledgeable, and any time you purport your ESPN conspiracies, I agree because I know it’s fact.

Why do my opinions get myself insulted. Why can they not just be disagreed with?

  5. Jacob X August 20th, 2009 at 2:05 pm

I can’t believe they are not flip flopping Lester and Penny.

  6. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 2:05 pm

    Bronx Jeers -

How is my logical JD Drew prediction scary?

If the RS deem Drew of no more use to them, they will throw him away like the piece of garbage he is, and he will get scrizzewed out of his contract.

Jim, did you read my post? HE WAS MAKING AN EXAMPLE OF PLAX!

  8. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 2:09 pm

I had been predicting Papi on roids since 2004 on other sites. I was called insane among other things.

    “Papi is just fat.”

“that’s your bias talking” I believe Tim Wakefield was never a user.

    “you need meds”

We see how that turned out.

  9. RS August 20th, 2009 at 2:10 pm

It’s kind of incredible that the Yankees have faced Beckett in EVERY SINGLE series so far…even that mini 2 game series at the stadium back in May. At least he’s not facing Burnett this time.

  10. Serf August 20th, 2009 at 2:10 pm

Boston should have really prepared for this series and put Lester into this series. It’s really important for them.

  11. robert August 20th, 2009 at 2:11 pm

I would like to see Phil Hughes for more than an inning. I mean he’s been great but it’s the same thing with Rivera he is over protected. It is not easy to go out there and pitch in relief for 2 or 3 innings as Aceves is doing it. Yesterday he gave the Yankees a very good 1.2 innings but asking for another inning is hard the hitters have time to adapt.

  12. R+ August 20th, 2009 at 2:11 pm

I’m looking forward to Sergio Mitre starting next week.

  13. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 2:11 pm

    Sardine can -

Yes. He was making an example out of Plax.

    But the question is WHY?

The most difficult thing to do is prove a man’s motives.

I might be wrong, but being that he is a Pats fan, I have my opinion.

  14. Wait till we visit the Sardine Can August 20th, 2009 at 2:11 pm

Well if you keep prediciting conspiracy theories with EVERYTHING, eventually you’re going to be right.

  15. Robbykid August 20th, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Whats nice is that 1 win=2 for the magic number…So all we need to do is win 1 out of the 3, we would be in great shape to clinch the division…..

  16. Tom in N.J. August 20th, 2009 at 2:13 pm

“Boston should have really prepared for this series and put Lester into this series. It’s really important for them.”

Lester gives them the best chance to win tonight. They need as many wins as possible against every team, not just the Yankees.

  17. Wait till we visit the Sardine Can August 20th, 2009 at 2:13 pm

Jim-Isn’t it obvious? He was making an example of Plax because he was a celebrity who lived in his city.

Why does there need to be an ulterior motive?

  18. RalphieD (OPPC) August 20th, 2009 at 2:14 pm

    Pro Debut News!!!

J.R. Murphy made his professional debut today for the GCL Yankees..

    He batted 3rd and DH’ed and went 1 for 3 with 2 rbi’s and a walk..

Nice debut for the young catcher taken the in 2nd round.

Hope to see Heathcott and the rest of the crew make their debut soon

  19. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 2:16 pm

    Sardine -

Good point. But again, it’s not a conspiracy. Beliefs are not conspiracies.

I have my belief about every 2004 Red Sox except Tim Wakefield being a user.

Knowing that Bloomie was at Pats Games in their 1 loss season, it’s pretty obvious he is a pats fan, and i believe he was trying to exact some sort of revenge.

Generally, there is ulterior motive. Him making Plax an example because he was a celebrity is an ulterior motive.

  20. Hank August 20th, 2009 at 2:17 pm

Penny has gotten shelled by Toronto this season. He has a 6.55 ERA at the Rogers Centre against them.

Meanwhile Penny shut us out last time and has the type of live FB that gives our hitters trouble.

Boston gave them the best chance to win BOTH games. Lester vs. TOR and Penny vs. us gives them a better chance to win than Penny vs. TOR and Lester vs. us. Of course, Lester would beat either team but Penny has a better chance to beat us then beat Toronto based on the past.

  21. Wait till we visit the Sardine Can August 20th, 2009 at 2:18 pm

But he has motive enough. Plax being a celebrity and Bloomberg wanting to make an example of him IS a motive.

  22. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 2:18 pm

Just wait until the JD Drew prediction comes true, of course, if the Red Sox deem him to no longer valuable to them.

They’ll boot him out the door like the piece of garbage he is.

    Sardine -

Who was Bloomie making the example to? Other NY Giant players from their Super Bowl team ;)

  23. ADam August 20th, 2009 at 2:18 pm

we are so due to hit Beckett and hit him hard……

  24. E-gawa August 20th, 2009 at 2:19 pm

nothing less than a sweep. PWNAGE on national TV again.

  25. Wait till we visit the Sardine Can August 20th, 2009 at 2:20 pm

Jim-Duh. He was making an exmple of Plax so that nobody else carried a loaded gun into a nightclub without a license. He wanted to scare people.

  26. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 2:21 pm

In regards to Drew, why was ESPN reporting that Francona made these terrible accusations about Drew not wanting to show up for work and asking out of a game.

Terry Francona is the best player manager you’ll ever find. He never goes to the media to sell out one of his players. He took David Ortiz’s side.

When have you ever heard Francona or ESPN sell out one of the Red Sox?

When they no longer want him on the Red Sox. That’s why I decided during the game to check out his contract.

  27. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 2:22 pm

    Sardine -

Let’s agree to disagree. You make excellent points, but I have my opinion based on the fact that Bloomie is a Pats fan and that deterrence is proven to be ineffective.

  28. Wait till we visit the Sardine Can August 20th, 2009 at 2:23 pm

  32. Nick in SF in Larkspur August 20th, 2009 at 2:26 pm

For those of you scoring at home/work, the story of last night’s Yankees-A’s game did not make the front page of the SF Chronicle Sporting Green. You can read all about in on page B5.

What stories were worthy of the front page?

The Raiders-49ers joint practice, of course, the SF Giants victory over the Reds, a huge profile/picture of the new Stanfurd QB, and some essay that looks too boring to read; its headline is “Drug testing trumped by gender testing”.

  33. Noreaster August 20th, 2009 at 2:26 pm

The Sox are really set up to take a real fall here. They have to play tonight in Toronto and then put up two place holders as starters. Hopefully this will wake our offense up!

  34. betsy August 20th, 2009 at 2:26 pm

I’m not presuming anything about these games. AJ has pitched twice in Fenway this year and he’s been absolutely rocked. I also am not sure what to expect from Andy in that park……..Obviously the Yankees can win and hopefully they will win at least one game (a sweep would be awful), but games are not played on paper.

I think Bloomberg wanted Burress to go down so he could make political waves (which is a joke), but to say that it has anything to with his allegiance to a football team makes no sense…..

  35. Y 27 August 20th, 2009 at 2:28 pm

  36. Wait till we visit the Sardine Can August 20th, 2009 at 2:29 pm

Everybody’s insistence that it’s some sort of elaborate conspiracy is what is so annoying.

The only opinion that i have is that Bloomberg made an example out of Plax because he is a Pats fan. Opinion, not conspiracy.

Others including SJ44, believe that Bloomie made an example out of Plax because of his celebrity status. Opinion, not conspiracy.

  38. L to the 2nd August 20th, 2009 at 2:30 pm

Take care of business on Friday night, put the RS back on their heels. It’ll take any thoughts of the division out of their heads and they can really begin to worry about TEX & TAM – one of which could easily slip in by them.

  39. L to the 2nd August 20th, 2009 at 2:31 pm

Washburn for Ajax – or even more – for a two month rental?

What’s that about the trades you don’t make….?

  45. Bronx Jeers August 20th, 2009 at 2:33 pm

And it was Bloomberg who tried to get a football stadium in the same spot Guiliani wanted Yankee stadium.

Both ideas died on the vine. Why ? probably had something to do with the fact that no one could really answer the question of how 50,000 + people were going to get there and park, not gridlock the city etc.

  46. All-Star August 20th, 2009 at 2:34 pm

We did get shutout by Tomko… I’m not assuming we’re going to hit Penny or Tazawa (and Penny did have his best start of the season against us earlier in the year).

  47. Erica - always OPPC August 20th, 2009 at 2:35 pm

    I fear it is so.

And what about the fact that no Yankees of Color are attending the Creed show with Johhn Damon???

That could be a conspiracy of good taste.

  54. vtred August 20th, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Tomorrow would be a huge game to win. Take all the pressure off us this weekend and put the pressure on them. They have to beat out 2 best starters to win the series then and we would have done our jobs (taking a game).

  55. RS August 20th, 2009 at 2:39 pm

Guliani was accused of being a Yankees fan by Mike Poopica and the rest of the anti NY media. BY the ideas and beliefs of a lot of posters on here, that would be considered a conspiracy.

    That was my point.

Was Bloomberg accused of being a fan of any team?

  58. Wait till we visit the Sardine Can August 20th, 2009 at 2:41 pm

    Let’s crunch numbers, shall we?:

. Yankees are on pace for 100.6 wins
. We have a 90.59710 chance to win the division
. The Red Sox have a 8.78350 chanceto win the division (they do however have a 69.06482 chance to win the wild card and a 77.84832 chance to make the playoffs, unfortuantely)
. We would finish 7 games in front of the Red Sox if both played on their current pace
. Only three teams have a zero percent chance to make the playoffs and they are the Nats, Pirates, and Padres
. The Rays have only a 13.77728, which is oddly higher than the Rangers’ 12.93407 chance to make the playoffs.
. And of course the Yanks have a 99.26073 chance to make the playoffs

In short? Life is good. :-)

And if I was in a position to hurt Boston players legally, I would.

If I were a police officer on the field in Boston during the 2003 ALCS, I would have arrested Pedro Martinez for throwing down Zimmer. (Although it was Zimmer’s fault and Zimmer is a dirtbag for insulting Mr. Steinbrenner)

I would have been fired immediately, but such is life. I would have loved to make Pedro look like a fool for headhunting, steroid using and being a scumbag. Even if I looked like a fool as well.

If he is out in 6 months with good behavior, then I’d probably revise my thinking about Bloomie. That would not be such a bad deal. Are you sure?

Hilarious… the worst GM in the history of baseball is downplaying the acquisition of Mark Teixeira… Amazing how they let that clown talk

    This is funny:

Monday is an off day. Mitre would be Tuesday, Joba Wednesday, Burnett on Thursday afternoon (I hope since I’m going to the game and I’ve already seen Andy Pettitte 4 times this year).

michelle, sorry it didn’t work out. There was talk of a potential LoHud meetup to watch one of the playoff games. If we have it at your house, you’re sure to be involved! ;)

I guess Mitre goes Monday and Joba Tuesday.

    No Game Monday man….

    michelle b.,

you were missed…we all met up for a couple innings and enjoyed adult libations and Yankee talk.

Nick and Buddy are stand up guys.

hopefully we can all rally together next time.

Shouldn’t the Yankees be playing two series in Oakland next year?

I don’t think a sweep would be awful…I’d like to win one game though.

Fun fact: the yankees have a 99.26073% chance to make the playoffs.

    ===============

I wonder what the Mets’ chances were a couple years ago when they had that 7-game lead with 17 games left, or whatever.

Not that I think that would happen to the Yanks.

    Just curious.

“You twisted my words again. I said nothing about mayoral races whatsoever. ”

I didn’t say you brought up the mayoral race.

I’m asking you if you think it’s a good political strategy for a guy running for Mayor of New York to single out a popular NY Giant footbal star because he’s a fan of the team that they beat in the Superbowl?

Your opinion or theory or whatever is beyond ridiculous.

    And now I’m done.

    Nick in S.F.:

One nice thing about A’s coverage is Mindi Bach on the pregame. Easy on the eyes, and she does a great job, too. Seemed very prepared.

  100. Sock it to NY August 20th, 2009 at 3:07 pm

    Let’s see……
Ellsbury will steal the winning run off of Andy.
AJ will be given a 10-0 lead and lose on Saturday
and Beckett will strike out 12 on his way to a win and the Cy Young: win, win and Red Sox win. 0-9 at Fenway for 2009

Who won the division in 2004?

    Here we come NY!

Pitching matchup’s faviorates the yanks to win at least 2 of 3 go yanks

  103. Vince August 20th, 2009 at 3:19 pm

The pressure is on Boston. They have to play at a .650 clip or better and hope that Tampa Bay and Texas fade.
Not all of their schedule is at Jurassic Park.

  104. Stateman52 August 20th, 2009 at 4:00 pm

It will be a sad day when Jeter and Rivera retire. No other team can boast of two such solid citizens.

  105. V August 20th, 2009 at 4:05 pm

    Huge edge games 1 n 2

  106. Benny Blanco August 20th, 2009 at 4:30 pm

whats the yankees record on fox? Just curious.

  107. joemorr8 August 21st, 2009 at 11:12 am

1 and 2 look great for Yanks. 3 should be a gem!
