The team that plays together …
The Yankees are off today and the players are free to do what they want as long as they’re in Boston by midnight tonight.
Johnny Damon, left fielder and rock and roller, decided to organize a little field trip. Creed is playing in Hartford at the Comcast Theater tonight as part of their reunion tour and Johnny is tight with the guys in the band.
Scott Stapp and Co. grew up in the Orlando area and have known Johnny for a while now.
So Johnny rented a bus and he, Brian Bruney, Eric Hinske, Dave Robertson, Phil Coke and Kevin Long will travel from Boston to the show. Johnny arranged for everything.
“It worked out well with us having that night off,” Johnny said. “Good way to relax.”
This sort of thing has gone on all season. CC Sabathia hooked up NBA games, A-Rod picked up several dinners for the players in Tampa when he was rehabbing, etc. The Yankees are a solid bunch of guys.
Will that translate into the World Series? I have no idea. It has been my experience as a sportswriter that superior talent and good heath trumps good chemistry almost every time. But this is my fourth season around the Yankees and this bunch seems to get along better than previous editions.

wow, easily the worst band ever
the poster doesn’t help them either…
I bet Johnny’s got the hook up back stage
ew, creed? LOL
REPOST
Like I said, oh well.
We got our Super Bowl out of him. (Hey, that’s like a line a Bostonian would use)
Hey, I would have taken 5 years in prison, a cushy prison, at the least for the NYG to have not let the Patriots have a perfect season.
And I would have replayed the Super Bowl in my mind all 5 years in the pen.
I may love Johnny Damon-
But I am a little iffy on his taste in bands LOL
Creed? I think they only have one good song (My Own Prison). How do you do a concert with only one good song?
Anyone remember when the media tried to cram down our throats a few years ago that Barry Zito was an odd guy because he played covers of John Mayer tunes on his guitar?
Nothing says “out there” guy like a guy who does covers of John Mayer
REPOST
Erica,
hope you get everything done. I think a lot of us need the off day after staying up late every night to see the games.
Thanks again for hosting.
“I may love Johnny Damon-But I am a little iffy on his taste in bands LOL”
Hey, when you love a man, you have to love him in spite of his faults. Just add this one to the list of faults under “throws like a girl”.
Too bad they missed Bruce. He was at the same venue Wednesday night.
Scott Stapp is still alive? I thought he OD’d on God and booze
Creed? Meh.
Other than “Higher” do they even have enough to do a complete set list?
“The “dumb” gun laws in New York state are what makes NYC the safest large city in the US”
no it’s not. What makes NYC the safest big city in America, is the number of fine police officers on the street. The best in the country
don’t make the mistake of beliving ‘No guns = No crime” Criminals are what make crimes. And Criminals will ALWAYS have guns
John Mayer performed with Chris Botti last February in Boston so how far out there can he be? (I am not a fan of Mayer’s)
Nick Swisher is organizing a group to visit Hershey Park.
I like this because it’s a group of guys that cross generations–older, more veteran guys like Johnny, Bruney and Hinske, a coach, and two rookies. Granted, they are getting together to go see one of the worst bands to ever exist, but it speaks to the fact that there is no split among veteran/new guy lines in the clubhouse, which is good news.
Okay, I love this article:

I can’t watch a man sing a song…they get all emotional, they sway…it’s embarrassing…
Erica, how come your PBF didn’t invite you?
Must’ve been an oversight – otherwise he already knew you hated the band
Man, I just lost a ton ‘o respect for all those named.
wow, easily the worst band ever
——————–
Stone Temple Pilots would like to have a word with you on that one (Alice In Chains wannabes).
“Who’s Got My Back Now” is a great song, btw. Creed’s not the greatest band ever, but far from the worst.
You Boston paranoia has reached the comical stage Jim.
Believe me, the gun laws weren’t set up in NY to trap a Super Bowl hero.
And please, can the, “He’s afraid because one of his teammates was robbed”. If that’s the case, here’s a novel suggestion…..hire private security when you go out. He can afford it. You don’t have to pack to go to a club.
As far as the chemistry issue, I think it helps a team more than hurts it.
I don’t think its a coincidence this Yankee team doesn’t spend time dwelling on the negative or playing an uptight brand of baseball.
There were plenty of games last year where, if they didn’t hit early, they didn’t hit late and it lingered for weeks.
They also wouldn’t have won a game like last night. Somehow, whether it would be more walks, errors, etc, they would have flushed that 3 run lead away and lost.
These days, the post-season is one, big crapshoot. Every team in baseball can have 2 bad days. You have 2 bad days in a Best of 5 series, you lose, regardless of your regular season success.
However, to GET to the post-season, it takes more than just talent. You have to be able to handle the ebbs and flows of a season. This Yankee team so far has done it better than any Yankee team since the Dynasty Years and I believe good team chemistry does play a role in that outcome.
“John Mayer performed with Chris Botti last February in Boston so how far out there can he be? (I am not a fan of Mayer’s)”
what did he do a trumpet solo over “Your Body Is A Theme Park” or whatever the song is called?
To me Zito would be “far out” if he were playing songs by King Crimson or Marc Ribot
no it’s not. What makes NYC the safest big city in America, is the number of fine police officers on the street. The best in the country
don’t make the mistake of beliving ‘No guns = No crime” Criminals are what make crimes. And Criminals will ALWAYS have guns
———-
I’ll 2nd that. The great Police officers of New York keep the state safe.
Punishing people has never been proven to deter the punished or other people from committing the crime. So if others want to bring an unregistered gun, they certainly are not going to think “My oh my, look what happened to Plax.”
This was Bloombergie avenging the Patties. Too bad it does not get him 19-0
Eh, I’m with Pete on the team chemistry issue. I keep thinking of those 2 70′s championship teams and how some of those players just hated each other’s guts.
I can picture a conversation where Damon is talking to Stapp…
when Stapp realizes Damon has an off day on his concert he gets all excited, “Johnny, that’s great! You and a bunch of your teammates can come to our show, I’ll get you some tix…isn’t God great?!”
Later in the clubhouse Damon is talking to a group of teammates… “I know they’re the worst band of all time, but Scott’s a friend of mine…you guys can’t leave me hanging on this one. If any of you are true teammates, you’ll go to this stupid concert with me!”
I second vinny.
Criminals will carry guns, and they’re the ones we have to worry about anyway.
they are going to the show so that there will be no distractions looking over film and preparing and whatnot.
no, Creed is the worst. It’s science.
Believe me, the gun laws weren’t set up in NY to trap a Super Bowl hero.

Please do not twist my words. Of course the laws are what the laws were.
The laws were created far before there ever was a Patriots fan
, and by that I mean pre 2000
But the laws were pushed by the scumbag Bostonian Bloombergie and the DA was forced to push Bloombergie’s agenda. He could have been allowed to cop to a lesser charge and lesser more appropriate jail time.
Anyhow, the gun laws of NY are not dumb, excuse my wording, they are outdated.
The teams in the 70′s got along better with each other after the ’77 season.
They had one thing in common. They all hated Reggie and George! lol
Other than that, those teams were very tight and had each others backs when they took the field.
They also spent a lot of time together doing things, as this team does, on the road.
I covered those teams and the whole “Bronx Zoo” title was more apt toward the players feelings toward George and Reggie than to one another in those clubhouses.
Off subject here. But is it just me, or is Torre running Jonathan Broxton into the ground? Seems like his fastball is down to about 95-96. It was closer to 100 earlier this year.
The Dodgers look very vulnerable right now.
You are surprised a Joe Torre run bullpen has tired arms in August?
I’m glad that you find it comedy that the NY teams get screwed over in favor of Boston teams.
I dont call it a comedy, I call it a tragedy.
Just wait til the Red Sox screw JD Drew over and are celebrated in the media for doing it. Their team will once again be rewarded for ESPN and the media pushing the Red Sox agenda.
I love Kenny and John from the YES network. By far the best in entire network. Can’t stand Michael Kay.
I love Kenny and John from the YES network. By far the best in entire network. Can’t stand Michael Kay.
no, Creed is the worst. It’s science.
———————-
worse than Wham!? That’s saying something right there.
Dave the Yankees have played the Red Sox 12 times already this year, how much more tape are they going to watch? So funny that fans don’t want to hear that players aren’t 24/7 living, breathing preparing for their next game and that they might actually have an off day like every other person in the free world.
Creed? Johnny D just lost a few dozen cool points with me.
Well Reggie was at least arguably the best player, and he was almost universally hated by everybody on the team.
I really can’t get enough of this bonding stuff. I know, I know, the Bronx Zoo players hated each other and still won. IMO, this is much more appealing. If they don’t win the WS, will all this matter? I don’t know that it won’t – the Yankees still would have had a terrific season.
The fun stuff is great, but what I really love is that these guys truly have each other’s backs. When X was first injured, Swish drew X’s on his arms in support. AJ learned Chinese so he could communicate better with Wang and support him. The fun stuff, anyone can do – the other things are just a byproduct of the fact that these are just very, very good people. I still remember when Ramiro Pena made a great play in the field in ST and the clubhouse greeted him enthusiastically when he came off the field. These youngsters were also made to feel a part of the team – think Pena and Cervelli have been able to wipe the smiles off their faces?
Team chemistry? Creed won’t help that.
In fact, I’d sooner accuse Damon of trying to sabotage team chemistry with this move.
Ughh
I have never heard of Creed. I know Creed is a character on the Office, but that’s it……The Yankees have pretty lousy taste in music, lol.
SJ44 -
Ironically, in reference to your private security comment,
Steve Smith was robbed by his own personal private security
Get help Jim, you need it.
A law that has minimum/mandatory prison sentences isn’t designed to hurt NY sports teams or help Boston sports.
A little paranoia is healthy. More than a little? Getting help is the best solution.
Funny you mention Wham, because I think if Creed were to cover “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” they would cease to be the worst ever…
Seriously, imagine Creed playing that song and tell me it didn’t make you smile.

Too bad they missed Bruce. He was at the same venue Wednesday night.

I have tickets for Bruce at the Atlantic Center in South Florida for September 13th, I think I’m getting a better deal than Johnny…
Yuck.
That is all.
The Yankees will be most vulnerable in the ALDS. That’s where the upsets breed.
Assuming, of course, that we get there.

I love Kenny and John from the YES network. By far the best in entire network. Can’t stand Michael Kay.

I agree. Kay doesn’t annoy me too much (not like Sterling) but I just find it a lot more pleasant to watch Ken and John.
Plus, if Kay is with O’Neill they just joke around the whole time.
There aren’t many things that this board can almost unanimously agree on, but it appears that one of them is: Creed stinks.
Wow, a field trip to a Creed concert. How embarrassing.
Stop u Creed bashers! Hah
not a grunger in the group?!
You all too young or too old?
Johnny d knows his tunes!
Next you’ll diss c cobain!
I know, I hope they don’t issue some sort of press release or I see stupid photos in the Post.
Do you mean k cobain
A law that has minimum/mandatory prison sentences isn’t designed to hurt NY sports teams or help Boston sports.
—————
You claim yourself to be so intelligent and rational. You are engaging in an ad hominem attack. Rather than discuss the merits of my argument, you are attacking me personally. An argument of such is said to be of a lazy and defeated mind.
I never said the law was designed, but utilized and pushed by Bloombergie and the DA.
They could have allowed Plax to plead to a lesser charge with lesser jail time.
Instead, they were trying to punish Plax (for some on here, they believe it was to make an example. For me, since Bloombergie is a scumbag Bostonian, it was obviously the Super Bowl)
I guess you have no response to Steve Smith’s personal security
If I was a lawyer, I’d love to come up against you in a court case.
for all the creed haters, this is hilarious…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....r_embedded
Creed isn’t grunge anyway, it’s like some sort of crappy “spirit rock”
I mentioned this one night late this week, but Flash is near unlistenable as a play-by-play guy. I think he does a fine job in the booth as a color guy, but he is totally lost when doing the call. His monotone voice never changes pitch (a homer sounds exactly like a boring groundout) and–and this is the most annoying for me–he says the phrase, “it’s gonna be” about 15 times a minute. Anyone notice that?
Again, I’m not hating on Flaherty just Flaherty doing the play by play… leave that to Michael or Kenny.
The Yankees are off today and the players are free to do what they want as long as they’re in Boston by midnight tonight
*******
I always wondered what happened if there was an off day before a game.
Hopefully Johnny and the boys won’t have to leave the concert early to make curfew. Otherwise K-Long will have some explaining to do.
Jo — If Kurt Cobain knew you were lumping him in with Creed he would reach for the shotgun all over again.
This conspiracy theory you’re putting up there Jim is a bit too crazy for my taste.
Criminals do not make crime. There’s always an underlying reason why people commit crimes.
I’m also lol’ing about the great police force in NYC. Obviously if you are giving the police props you’ve never seen how the poor and disenfranchised people in NYC are treated by these fine policeman that you all love so much.
I grew up in a poor neighborhood and experienced first hand just how poorly they treat the less fortunate citizens. So please spare me the details about how great the police force is in NY.
“If we are on the outside, we assume a conspiracy is the perfect working of a scheme.
Silent nameless men with unadorned hearts. A conspiracy is everything that ordinary life is not. It’s the inside game, cold, sure, undistracted, forever closed off to us. We are the flawed ones, the innocents, trying to make some rough sense of the daily jostle.
Conspirators have a logic and a daring beyond our reach. All conspiracies are the same taut story of men who find coherence in some criminal act.”
Don DeLillo, Libra
Or was he referring to ESPN? Or Bloomberg?
Is Delillo really a yankee fan as he professes to be? Or is he secretly consuming chowdah?
Creed is not Grunge. They are awful.
Creed. Wow. Awesome.
I’m gonna miss that concert, I think.
Raymagnetic-What year did you grow up in NY?
I am NOT pushing a conspiracy.
Simply, Bloomberg is a Patriots fan. That’s FACT.
As a Patriots fan, he hated a NYG who beat his team.
It’s not as if he went out of his way to screw a NYG player, he got handed an opportunity by an idiot who allowed a gun to go off in public.
He used that situation to try to exact some sort of revenge.
All pretty simple, nothing conspiratorial about it. Just Fact.
Kurt/ curt, holliday/ halladay, Wang/wong
you get my point..
Though I do agree about the” re reach for shotgun” comparison , hah!
“Criminals do not make crime”
and then i stopped reading
How many times has Bloomberg stuck his nose in on a case an ordered the DA to get maximum time.
Never.
You can say it was to deter other people, but since deterrence is not very effective, than that goes out the window.

JMZ,
Wait, you mean “c cobain,” right?
If Pete wasn’t somewhere over Wyoming right now he’d say-
It’s not about Creed and whether they stink or not. It’s about hanging out together.
Probably snarkier than that though.
Wow. That’s embarrassing.
I don’t know what’s worse, liking their music or ‘being tight with’ the pretentious degenerate who fronts that band.
Criminals do not make crime is akind of a bizarre statement, no?
Jim, sorry but that’s a conspiracy. It’s not fact if you can’t prove it.
raymagnetic:
by the way. I didn’t intend any disrespect.
however, repeat the following sentence you typed. It makes little sense
Corey Cobane was a great influence on Creed.
Hey man, we are just voicing our opinions. I’d expect the same reaction if Tex took some players to see a Hannah Montana concert.
Hearing the Prosecutor on WFAN with Mike?
6 months and 5 years proabation is what anyone not named Plaxico Burress would have gotten for this crime.
Well, when they get swept up in Boston they can use that little roadtrip as one of the many excuses. Pulling another goose egg at Fenway! 0-9 at Fenway in 2009…..ooch!
Sox back in pre-all star break form. Take care of Halladay up in Toronto last night as the warm-up act!
Home cook’in at Fenway for sure!
3 out by Monday morn!
Wikipedia defines creed as ” post grunge”, so there!
We know wikipedia is the oracle of all knowledge! Hah!
And at least Hannah Montana is cute, so I’d back Tex!
And they’re related in some way I heard..
Bloomberg is a Patriots fan… no surprise that he punished Plaxico.
Galileo was once considered a conspirator for saying the Earth revolved around the sun. He was ostracized and imprisoned for believing such a “heresy.” Forward thinkers are always ignored and belittled to begin with.

Thanks for the insulting attempt. However, very funny stuff.
Jim,
really, get help. It’s laughable and sad you believe the Super Bowl outcome determined the Burress Case.

You Red Sox trolls are adorable, though!
Jim-Galileo produced proof. What proof have you produced? Not to mention I think figuring out the Earth has revolved around the sun is a bit of a bigger deal than Plaxico Burress’s trial.
Plaxico’s attorney was right… his celebrity worked against him. If this was a normal person, he would not have even be arrested. The club did not report the incident to the police, neither did the hospital.
And at least Hannah Montana is cute, so I’d back Tex!
And they’re related in some way I heard..

Sorry to interrupt, you may go back to reading People magazine.
Red Sox hurler Clay Buchholz’ bride-to-be, Lindsay Clubine, got a crash course on being a Red Sox [team stats] fan in Yankee Stadium earlier this month.
“Yankees fans, they are mean!” said the future Mrs. B, who hit the new NYC ballpark to watch her hubby and his team get swept by the Evil Empire. “I was in the family section and the fans behind us were heckling us the whole game.”
Clubine, also known as Briefcase Model No. 26 on NBC’s “Deal or No Deal,” said somehow the Yankees fans figured out she was one of Howie Mandel’s models and worked it into their heckling repertoire!
“Every time we’d get up and cheer for our guys, a couple of the fans would yell, ‘Yankees sweep Sox – Deal or no deal?’ ”
http://slidingintohome.blogspot.com/
LOL she needs to lighten up. That is very tame. Especially compared to what some red sox fans would say about Jorge Jr. Now that was down right evil/.
There was some guy who called Beningo and Roberts called “Incarcerated Bob”, who is a felon himself and he explained the prison system. It was hilarious.
Remember that little hiccup when we had issues beating the Sox? That was cute.
Seriously, I’d be happy getting one win down in Fenway this weekend. The Red Sox are playing well. We’re not playing badly but our offense has gone in a little bit of a lull.
Galileo? Are you kidding? You are arguing that Burress got extra jailtime because the mayor of NY likes a different football team, that Burress beat in a big game once…but you want to compare yourself to Galileo? Wow.
SJ44 -
Lazy and defeated mind, anyone?
I think it’s pretty obvious Bloombergie’s insistence in this case for maximum time is what got Plax 2 years.
According to pat, a normal person would have gotten 6 months and 5 years probation.
I guess you’ve got no response for Steve Smith’s personal security. Lazy? Defeated?
Waahahahaha, Ms. Clubine’s gotten her first taste of the rivalry, and she was sitting by NICE fans…
Unlike Galileo -
I have figured out that the Earth revolves around Boston
Didn’t Steve Smith get robbed by his own driver at 4 in the morning?
I’m sorry. The world revolves around Boston
Or at least Peter Gammons’ world does
Jennifer,
I watch Deal or No Deal and I always liked Lindsay. But not anymore
fran I think it is funny that she is all upset about that. It is very clever of the fans.
Jim,
At least I have a mind. You, I’m not so sure about.
Debating someone as paranoid and illogical as you isn’t an interesting exercise.
I’ll leave that for your doctor.
I believe in chemistry. I think chemistry means more than the touchy-feely off-the-field togetherness stories (not that there’s anything wrong with those). I think respect and common purpose among teammates leads to each guy understanding his role, his piece of the puzzle. Teammates who pull for each other want to keep the line moving when things go right and pick the other guys up when things go wrong. I don’t think chemistry is the be-all-and-end-all, but I think it’s real.
It’s well known that the Pope was pissed because Galileo scored a touchdown against the Byzantines in the final quarter of the last crusade.
3 out by Monday morn!
——————
Don’t let the fact that that’s actually a statistical impossibility slow you down, buddy.
3 1/2 out is the best-case scenario for Boston. If the Yanks win just 1 game, it’s 5 1/2 games.
Yes V-Torch.
A fact that is never mentioned by ESPN.
But if it were a Patriot who was in this predicament, they’d be spewing that and everything else in his defense.

What are you going to do on your off day since there is no Guess the Line-up tonight?
****
I love him anyway Laura
L to the 2nd-
MPB Johnny Damon and I have agreed to have a few different interests in our pretend relationship
You know there’s a completely different, you totally believable and plausible theory that makes perfect sense…Bloomberg was clearly making an example of Plax. It’s so obvious.
I wouldn’t give it a snowball’s chance in Hell that he was discriminating against him because he was a Giant. No chance. None. It’s ridiculous.
Jim-
You accuse someone of launching an ad hominem attack on you, instead of attacking the content of your argument and then proceed by committing a number of egregious argument fallacies, the most obvious being a non sequitor, which completely nullify your attempts at proving your point. Bloomberg’s origins do not make him automatically make him Pats fan and to be honest, I’d be surprised if he followed sports. For a super-savvy dude, he doesn’t know too much about baseball, that’s for sure. — Nice try though trying to psych out whoever you responded to with your faux-intellectual response. As someone who is a lawyer I’d love to see you in court.
All that aside, I do hope you are kidding. To accuse one of the most professional businessmen and politicians around of taking advantage of the legal system to punish an athlete of a team he dislikes is pretty baseless.
Jim
Yes he was a NY attorney but your NY/Boston theory is over the top.
This was about celebrity and not what color his jersey was.
“A fact that is never mentioned by ESPN.
But if it were a Patriot who was in this predicament, they’d be spewing that and everything else in his defense.”
You do know ESPN and Bill Bellichick are not on good terms, right?
Youtube “Creed Shreds” hahaha
Tom in N.J.-IETCVM
Good for Johnny Damon. Anything beats listening to Peter Gammons and Theo Epstein playing guitar in lifeless Boston.
Plaxico has a history of being a screwball anyway. It’s not like this was an isolated incident.
I’m laughing at a lot of you today…thanks.
sportsguy33: RT: @faizalkhamisa Burress gets 2 years in jail for shooting HIMSELF … Stallworth gets 26 days for driving drunk and killing SOMEONE..wow.
Giants wouldn’t have won a SB without him
And he won them the Green Bay game himself… one of the best performances by a WR in NFL history. 11 catches for 154 yards in like 30 degree below 0 weather.
Rishi-You have a point there.
That’s just not right.
There are minimum sentences for illegal firearms in NY City.
the law used to be plastered all over the subways.
That’s why all along I figured he was screwed.
He might have had a permit in NJ but it doesn’t matter. Once he crossed the GWB he was a criminal.
Bloomberg was clearly making an example of Plax – Fact
Bloomberg is a Patriots fan – Fact
It is not a non sequitor, Bloomberg was seen at many Patriots games during their undefeated, im sorry, 1 loss season. Now, I understand that does not necessarily make him a Pats fan. But one could make the general assumption
Bloomberg has never stuck his nose in a case before like this instance. His insistence clearly lead to Plax’s jail sentence. – Fact
Why are Florida laws so light compared to NY?
Yeah, the difference with Burres and other primadonnas like Owens is that the Giants have proven that it’s possible to win with him.
Wait till we visit the Sardine Can

Well – technically I copy/pasted someone’s point off Twitter – but it made a whole lot of sense to me
Great concept on the part of Johnny. This team seems to get on together very well.
But Creed?!??!???!!!!
That band sucks in every possible way that a so-called rock band can suck.
Creed…HA!
It’s always difficult to argue people’s motives.
But from all the circumstances in this case, I think his motives are pretty obvious.
By the way, many studies prove that deterrence is not very effective – FACT
Man, as a Giants fan, that Green Bay will never get old. A classic game.
Lambeau Field, Favre’s last game as a packer and he throws that pick in OT, Tynes misses 2 FGs, record cold temperatures, etc.
I think Jim Pir-one needs a blog time out and some serious meds.
Here’s my take on Creed:
they’re like a light beer. There’s a semblance of rock in there somewhere, but why bother when they are so many better beers out there?
Fran!
You are welcome
I can’t wait to get in bed early tonight. LOL.
Didn’t the guy from Creed get his a** kicked by the boys in 311 a few years back?
Also, all of heaping praise on the men in blue, I don’t think there are many people of color in the outer boroughs who have the same opinions you do. Probably something about getting stopped and frisked for no reason.
How i the world is that Green Bay game not an NFL classic already?
One of the best games I’ve ever seen, come to think of it.
Creed?
Aren’t they the same as 3 Doors Down?
I think this merits a repost:
You know there’s a completely different, totally believable, and plausible theory that makes perfect sense…Bloomberg was clearly making an example of Plax. It’s so obvious.
I wouldn’t give it a snowball’s chance in Hell that he was discriminating against him because he was a Giant. No chance. None. It’s ridiculous. He’s a politician, and there’s another very good reason for him to be doing this.
The Burress sentencing is a joke.
Donte Stallworth drives under the influence and kills a guy and is allowed to buy his way out of jail (settlement with the guy’s family or not) with a one year suspension from the NFL.
Burress shoots HIMSELF in the leg with an “illegal firearm” and goes to jail for two years?!
The biggest joke about this is the wasted prison space that Burress will inhabit. There are rapists, petafiles, murderers, and other such critters in the world that belong behind bars. A guy who shoots himself in the leg in jail highlights the pathetic nature of our justice system.
Does anyone know if Pacman Jones spent any time in prison? My instinct tells me not. You could argue that what he did was far worse than Burress.
Pete,
I think you should take this post down. While I’m all for team chemistry posts I’m wholeheartedly against promotion of bad music.
I’d rather the guys be going to see Dokken and Winger in concert than Creed.
Beating Dallas in Dallas, followed by winning that game in Green Bay when the pundits were all saying the Giants couldn’t win in the conditions in Lambeau and Favre with the home field and all that jazz, and then still topping it with the Super Bowl that needs no explanation…an unbelievable 3-game span as a Giants fan.
That whole Giants run was perfect
Dallas… knocking out Romo/TO after their unbelievable regular season, Romo throwing a pick on the final play and seeing Jerry’s face stone cold.
Green Bay… a classic. One of the best atmospheres you can find. The game that sent Favre into his first retirement.
New England… Brady, Belichick, 18-0… the catch. A perfect ending.
Spotless,
Creed very well may be worse than 3 Doors Down.
But yes, they are of the same crappy disposition.

– Fact

Between this and your ESPN – JD Drew conspiracy last night?
Quite frankly? You sound a little scary.
Johnny Damon organizes an all-white field trip to prepare for a series in Boston?
That kind of makes sense.
they will be cutting it close getting back by midnight and they better take it easy on the beverages too or sleep in late tomorrow. at least they get out of that dump for 1 night and into a smaller dump for tonights show.
That run the Giants went on was just incredible.
Aside from maybe beating the Eagles in the first round rather than Tampa, you couldn’t have scripted a better run of games than the Giants had that year.
Ummm, Pete, I think I’d be more forgiving of Jeter taking steroids than knowing any Yankee was a fan of Creed.
People still listen to Creed?
Wasn’t their last and only hit single “Higher” like 12 years ago?
There are people here who actually think it’s ok that people carry concealed firearms into clubs filled with intoxicated crowds and then get intoxicated themselves? Come on, that is ridiculous. And if you think gun laws that make it more difficult for anybody to get a gun don’t help make the city safer, you’re out of your mind. Not everybody who would have a gun in public places is someone who is out to commit crime. Plax certainly isn’t, but he broke those laws and carried a weapon, seriously endangering people. What if Plax had missed his thigh and shot some other person? Nobody is to blame here but Plax. Hopefully he gets what is coming to him for making such a stupid and dangerous decision.
“If Pete wasn’t somewhere over Wyoming right now he’d say-
It’s not about Creed and whether they stink or not. It’s about hanging out together.
Probably snarkier than that though.”
right-
also don’t forget the part where he tells someone to “show some class” or “it was meant as a joke” or the plain old “just stop”
am I forgeting any?
new thread
That’s the thing Sardine can -
There is no good reason why Bloomberg stuck his nose in.
Publicity? Maybe. How does putting away a NY hero get you positive publicity.
Many studies prove deterrence is not effective.
————–
Guliani, while in office, tried to facilitate the NYY building a new stadium. It was theorized that he was trying to give a sweetheart deal to his favorite team by the media, notably Mike Lupica. Where were those to call Poopica a conspirist.
Im not sure why my opinions or beliefs get responded to by insults.
SJ44, i enjoy your reading your posts because they are very knowledgeable, and any time you purport your ESPN conspiracies, I agree because I know it’s fact.
Why do my opinions get myself insulted. Why can they not just be disagreed with?
Not a lot of choices in live music going on near by.
Day off.. Check
bus…. Check
know lead singer… Check
lots of coin… Check
ya, creed will work..
As a stiller fan , RIP to our ex WR plex..
The right to bear arms was one of the original cornerstones to the Constitution. Regulations on the weapons are very important of course, but how is shooting yourself in the leg worse than drunk driving and killing someone?
I’m not saying Burress didn’t deserve jail time, but he certainly deserved less than Dante Stallworth. Getting into a car drunk is just as dangerous as taking a loaded gun into a nightclub, and Stallowrth proved it.
“I’d rather the guys be going to see Dokken and Winger in concert than Creed.”
Dokken and Winger are the Beatles and Stones compared to Creed.
I’d rather see Looking Glass do 20 different renditions of Brandy(You’re a fine girl)than to see Scott Strapp belt out just one verse of his twisted version of rock n roll.
I may see Johnny in a slightly skewed light for a couple of games. I mean it’s one thing to subject one’s self to such repulsive music but to ask others to join you?
It’s like Jonestown revisited !
Jim, did you read my post? HE WAS MAKING AN EXAMPLE OF PLAX!
The question isn’t whether it is worse than drunk driving and killing someone. Just because other district attorneys don’t prosecute the way they should doesn’t mean NYC should act the same way. This is the premier city in the world, we don’t look to backwaters like Florida to inform us of how to run ourselves.
Stallworth should have received more time, but Florida’s lowering of its standards of conduct don’t mean we should have a race to the bottom.
Creed is a modern day, real life Spinal Tap.
Check out this review from their show last week in the Boston Herald. Hilarious.

Sardine Can,
I agree on the bit about Burress vs. Stallworth. Its a joke.
Anthony,
I don’t think anyone is necessarily condoning his bringing a firearm into a nightclub, drinking booze, and meandering with a lot of people. Could he have killed someone? Absolutely. Should he have had a gun on him? Probably not. But he did and shot himself in the leg, not the guy drinking his Bacardi Limon at the bar just five feet away.
Above all, Burress’s actions were incredibly idiotic.
Stallworth killed a man when driving under the influence. He is presently sitting on his couch watching Sportscenter, smoking blunts, and sitting on millions of dollars.
Its a joke.
“Criminals do not make crime”
Wow, now I actually feel guilty for having things in my house. Owning a car. Having a wallet with a buck in it. We need to get rid of stores, banks, and give the vulnerable armed guards. And to the guy who stabbed me in the throat some years ago. Im sorry when testifying against you I didn’t understand your youth. sheesh.
“Stallworth should have received more time, but Florida’s lowering of its standards of conduct don’t mean we should have a race to the bottom.”
What’d he spend, 30 days? If I got liquored up and ran over some yahoo you can bet your bottom dollar that I would be in prison for at least 5 years.
Mike Vick had his own little dog holocaust and spent two years in prison. I love dogs just as much as the next guy and what he did was wrong, but if you consider what he did in comparison to Burress, do you really think that shooting one’s self in the leg deserves the same punishment?
Erica, considering you’re in a pretend relationship, I think those differences are very healthy – I guess
I’ve been amused by this Plax conspiracy theory.
Sorry Jim, but Bloomberg went after him because he was a celebrity, not some deep-rooted hatred that Plaxico somehow “ruined” Bloomberg’s dreams of a perfect season for his team. Simple as that.
Actually, I was hoping your argument was tongue-in-cheek. Guess not.
Mad Prince, again, why are you comparing the sentences? Florida should have given Stallworth more time. New York is a different place with different laws. I would say they are better laws, but that’s just my opinion. Every state and locality makes and enforces its own laws. If they make the legal age for statutory rape a max of 14 in Tennessee, does that mean New York should do the same?
man this is bad news, if we dont win the world series its def creeds fault
WORST BAND EVER!

Anthony,
I am merely pointing out the flaws in the US justice system.
Its a blatant waste of prison space.
On a simple level, its manslaughter vs. shooting yourself in the leg regardless of the state laws.
Its a joke in every possible way.
And I don’t even like the Giants or Burress (or the Pats). But homeboy got hosed.
from that awesome Boston Herald Creed concert review:
“like a big, dumb, goose-like phoenix, Creed has exploded from the ashes in a burst of flames”
Bwahahahaha. Great stuff.
The Curse of Creed
I agree. Kay doesn’t annoy me too much (not like Sterling) but I just find it a lot more pleasant to watch Ken and John.
Plus, if Kay is with O’Neill they just joke around the whole time.
———————————————————
I disagree, I don’t like Flaherty in the booth. I happen to crack up when Kay and O’Neill start busting on each other, I think it makes watching the game more fun. Sterling and Waldman are unlistenable though, Sterling is ok in moderation, but Waldman adds nothing to the broadcast and needs to be replaced with a color comentator that has something to add about baseball, or let Sterling do color and hire another play-by-play guy.
creed is awful…. i’m disappointed that many guys from the Yankees actually wanted to go see them… Not only is their music horrible but they were supposedly a Christian band, and the lead singer ended up in a porno. Classy.
Creed is awful alright, but in Hartford? Creed in Hartford is just criminal.
Creed sucks but I love to see the team come together like that.
Too bad they’re going to miss the rock + roll show that was at the Comcast Theatre last night….
I saw Creed last Sunday at PNC Bank Arts Center so Damon and company are in for a treat!!
why? WHY?
There are a lot of Latinos on the Yankees. I don’t know why they would want to see Creed.
Saw Creed, the band you either absolutely love or despise like the Red Sox, during their last tour before Stapp decided God lived in his closet. I gotta say, they are pretty awesome live. I will admit I’m a fan. I think “My Own Prison” is a truly great album, but even though their next two sold millions upon millions of copies, IMO each had moments of really good stuff and moments of sheer nonsense.
I think they are hated by so many people because of one reason. Stapp is an attention whore. It’s all about him 24/7. Truth is, the other three guys in the band are tremendous at what they do. The split-off band Alter Bridge was really tight. Many said they were a “Creed Light” but in reality they were anything but …
So, Johnny, I support you on this road trip. Good show I’m sure, chance to bond and remind Coke to use all of his pitches and to grill Bruney on great tattoo parlors wherever he’s from.
I am as confident as I am excited for this series. As much as I’d like to see another sAWKs sweeping it would be just as satisfying to get out of Boston having won the series. The Yankees can by no means relax but they should play with the confidence that the past two months has created. The Yankees are the best team in baseball, all they have to do to win this series, is play like it.

Creed is awesome! You guys just don’t know good music.
