late-show-with-david-lettermanThey each turn the 3-6-3 double play like nobody’s business, of course. And they’re both scheduled to be on the Late Show with David Letterman on Monday night.

Tex will do a segment with Dave and participate in an outdoor batting demonstration. Should be interesting to watch.

  2. Franchize_guy August 20th, 2009 at 11:36 am

    I don’t get it?

  3. Tint August 20th, 2009 at 11:37 am

Nice,I’ve never seen Texy on any talk show so this should be coool.

The crowd better chant MVP, MVP, MVP when he comes out

  4. MJL August 20th, 2009 at 11:40 am

Actually, Tex is on Letterman Monday night.

  5. Mark in Tampa August 20th, 2009 at 11:42 am

When you go to Boston, Pete, do you drive, or do you fly in to the Rosie Ruiz International Airport?

  6. vinny-b (thankful to have Girardi in charge) August 20th, 2009 at 11:49 am

ok. Didn’t know if it was the Hayes & Haynes Brothers International Airport

  7. vinny-b (thankful to have Girardi in charge) August 20th, 2009 at 11:49 am

“Maybe there are three terminals. One thing we know for sure, there is no John Madden Airport in Oakland! But there is the John Madden Bus Terminal”

    nice line

  8. pat August 20th, 2009 at 11:52 am

Pete’s on the plane so maybe he thought he preset this for Monday. Oops.

  9. Stephen August 20th, 2009 at 11:53 am

Yeah, they’re both on the show Monday.

    Maybe it tapes today?

  10. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 11:58 am

Well, it looks like Plaxico paid the price for beating the Patriots in a Super Bowl and Ruining a perfect season.

That scumbag Bloomberg wanted him in jail for his performance and the DA obliged.

I truly feel bad for Plax. Teammate gets robbed at gunpoint at home a week earlier, has a permit in another state. If he had just lost the Super Bowl, none of this ever would have happened, because paww wittle Bloombergie’s Patriots would have won.

Oh well, what can you do. Donte got away because he was a Patriot, while Plax got scrizzewed because he beat the Patriots. Great Justice System.

  11. vinny-b (thankful to have Girardi in charge) August 20th, 2009 at 12:01 pm

    2 years. wow.

  12. Max Power August 20th, 2009 at 12:05 pm

Don’t know if this was already posted (sorry if it was), but I found this very interesting:

    http://grittyandclutch.blogspo.....-york.html

It breaks down each Yankees’ value over contract, and comes up w/some surprising results.

  13. MJL August 20th, 2009 at 12:07 pm

Nah it’ll tape Monday afternoon…I’m sure Pete will fix it, probably just got some bad information.

  14. SJ44 August 20th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

Two different states. Two different laws. The two aren’t comparable at all except both guys were football players.

The fact is, NY’s gun laws are the toughest in the country. If you are packing, you have to know that or you are going to get nailed.

Right or wrong, it is what it is.

The guy destroyed his career acting like a gangster. Hope it was worth it.

Before folks make excuses for him, if you have to pack to go to a club, and you are a professional athlete, it isn’t a club worth patronizing.

Why? Because if something goes down the wrong way, you lose bigtime, as Plax did today.

  15. weisdog August 20th, 2009 at 12:14 pm

    Jim Pir-one:

You aren’t really blaming Bloomberg for Plaxico’s jail time, are you? I forgot, Mike gave him the unregistered gun and suggested he take it illegally to a nightclub, then caused him to trip and discharge the weapon. My bad, you are right, totally Bloomberg’s fault.

  16. vinny-b (thankful to have Girardi in charge) August 20th, 2009 at 12:16 pm

was Plax handled/sentenced like a normal person on the street. Or was he made an example of? I don’t know

I do know, he did not have a right for preferencial treatment. A person bein a known football player, isn’t exclusive for bein a “good guy”. I am a good guy also, however if am in manhattan and a gun rolls out my pant leg, i am going to prison.

  17. Erica - always OPPC August 20th, 2009 at 12:16 pm

    Jim-

Would you have been happier if the gun he shouldn’t have been carrying went off in the crowded club and he killed someone?? Would the punishment have been deserved then?

  18. Lee23 August 20th, 2009 at 12:19 pm

Letterman tapes daily, Monday through Wednesday. Then he tapes 2 shows on Thursday, the later taping airs Friday night.
    I’ve been to a few.
That place is teeny compared to how it looks watching from home….
TV adds 10 lbs to studios too?

  19. Frank from Chatham August 20th, 2009 at 12:20 pm

    Jim Pir-one

I think your opinion shows bad taste and a significant lack of class. How can you possibly blame anyone but Plax?

  20. Erica - always OPPC August 20th, 2009 at 12:20 pm

    Lee23-

    Fancy camera angles :-)

  21. Richie August 20th, 2009 at 12:21 pm

    *sets DVR*

  22. ron August 20th, 2009 at 12:21 pm

Plax is a great wide receiver, but unfortunately a dunce as well. Maybe some time in the can will smarten him up.

  23. Senor A. Boy August 20th, 2009 at 12:22 pm

    Take that, Anna Wintour!

  24. Matty Viernes August 20th, 2009 at 12:22 pm

It makes more sense for Tex to be on letterman Monday, as the team is traveling today from Oakland to BOS, but they’ll be back home on Monday.

  25. Yanksgal07 August 20th, 2009 at 12:25 pm

I’ll be driving to Boston tomorrow morning for the game too…I’ll beep if I see you Pete .. :o ).

I had already DVR’d the Tex segment next week…I always DVR shows I want to see a week ahead of time so I don’t forget ..

    Go Yankees 2009 !!!

  26. Erica - always OPPC August 20th, 2009 at 12:25 pm

How cool would it be to go to the Ed Sullivan theater and see Tex’s demonstration outside?

  27. betsy August 20th, 2009 at 12:27 pm

I don’t feel badly for Plax because he brought it on himself, but this was purely a political ploy for Bloomberg. I’m sure this type of crime happens all the time, but you don’t see Bloomberg trying to make an example of those people. He wanted to make a splash and curry favor with voters.

That said, I’m all in favor of strict gun laws.

  28. betsy August 20th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

I won’t be watching, but good for Tex,lol

  29. Erica - always OPPC August 20th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

    Betsy,

I agree. I feel safer knowing someone is trying to control the gun situation.

Its awfully frightening to think any idiot could be walking around illegally with a gun that could accidentally go off and kill you at any time

  30. ADam August 20th, 2009 at 12:30 pm

    who is anna wintour?

  31. CountryClub August 20th, 2009 at 12:31 pm

To answer someone’s question: Plaxico was treated just like any one of us would have been. They didnt make an example out of him.

  32. you gotta have faith (aceves, you da man!) August 20th, 2009 at 12:31 pm

wow, 2 years for plax? ouch.

  33. Hokiehill August 20th, 2009 at 12:32 pm

SJ, I’m with you on not feeling sorry for Burrus…the guy was trying to be cool and be tough, it was NOT about safety regardless of what he or his lawyers tell you. If you want to carry a weapon, so so within the law…not a hard concept. On top of that, these guys get schooled by NFL advisors, at least annually, on the do’s and don’ts of living life as an athlete. These guys probably goof off through that stuff and don’t pay attention, and then they get busted for being idoits.

    who is anna wintour?

    ****

The Editor of Vogue Magazine. Its sort of in the title to the blog for those who didn’t know

  35. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 12:34 pm

It’s the dumb gun laws of NY, coupled with Bloomberg being a scumbag Bostonian, and the DA pushing Bloombergie’s agenda.

His teammate got robbed at gunpoint a week prior. He had permits in another state. He’s not going to jail because the gun went off, it’s because he did not have a permit. If he did, he probably would not be going to jail.

    Frank -

I have a lack of class for feeling bad for a guy who is going to jail because he did not have a permit and beat the Patriots in a Super Bowl, not necessarily in that order.

Ray Lewis got nothing for obstructing justice in a person’s murder.

Donte kills a man accidentally, but negligently and gets nothing.

This agenda did not have to be pushed to put Plax in jail, gun laws or not. Bloombergie wanted to hang someone for his paww wittle Patties not being able to cheat their way to another Super Bowl.

  36. Bill from NJ August 20th, 2009 at 12:35 pm

Bloomberg is certainly to blame for sticking his head into and pushing/demaning the DA to make Plax an example of NY’s (stupid & outdated) gun laws.

  37. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 12:37 pm

    Betsy -

    You are worried about everything.

You cant see that Plax might have been worried because his teammate got robbed at gunpoint a week earlier.

You dont feel bad for him because he had a permit in one state and not another.

He is not going to jail because the gun went off.

  38. Bill from NJ August 20th, 2009 at 12:37 pm

This has to do with the Mayor and the D.A. “publicity stunt”. They are making an example out of Plaxico.

  39. Fran (the original) and OPPC member August 20th, 2009 at 12:37 pm

    Erica,

What are you going to do on your off day since there is no Guess the Line-up tonight? ;)

  40. Frank from Chatham August 20th, 2009 at 12:37 pm

Plax was going to get his time in prison – it’s mandatory in NY.

So, if Bloomberg used the situation as a teaching tool to those listening, so be it.

Maybe that “one” kid will benefit from his noise.

  41. Richie August 20th, 2009 at 12:37 pm

This blog is supposed to be politics free, PEOPLE!

  42. pat August 20th, 2009 at 12:38 pm

“Plaxico was treated just like any one of us would have been. They didnt make an example out of him.”

Not buying that. His celebrity mattered in this case.

  43. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 12:39 pm

    Like I said, oh well.

We got our Super Bowl out of him. (Hey, that’s like a line a Bostonian would use)

  44. Frank from Chatham August 20th, 2009 at 12:40 pm

The news media said his permit in Florida had expired. Besides, NY state law does not recognize other state gun licenses.

    Erica,

    ***

I have about a trillion errands I need to do tonight on my way home from work that I put off all week due to the 5pm GTLU start time. Because I had to start at 5, I would leave here and race home so I wouldn’t have to cancel the game.

Monday night I worked late and almost suffocated so I could accomodate

I actually need this offday as much as the Yankees

  46. pat August 20th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

Serious gunlaws in NY aren’t stupid.

  47. weisdog August 20th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

    Jim:

The “dumb” gun laws in New York state are what makes NYC the safest large city in the US.

  48. Frank from Chatham August 20th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

    Pittsburgh was smart.

  49. Rose August 20th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

Plaxico broke the law, got caught, got punished. He deserved what he got.

  50. SJ44 August 20th, 2009 at 12:41 pm

    Vinny,

I believe the case was handled as it would have been had he been a non-celeb.

I think Murphydog can answer to it better than I (since he practices in NY) but, I believe the gun laws require minimum/mandatory prison sentences.

  51. Erica - always OPPC August 20th, 2009 at 12:42 pm

    new thread

now about no political talk there

  52. Fran (the original) and OPPC member August 20th, 2009 at 12:43 pm

    Erica,

hope you get everything done. I think a lot of us need the off day after staying up late every night to see the games.
    Thanks again for hosting.

  53. CountryClub August 20th, 2009 at 12:44 pm

There are mandatory minimums in NY. As soon as he pleaded guilty his ship was sunk. It has nothing to do with his name.

  54. Jim Pir-one August 20th, 2009 at 12:45 pm

    SJ44 -

Minimum/mandatory sentences only apply if a person pleads guilty or his convicted.

This DA could have made Plax cop to a lesser charge with lesser jail time, maybe 6 months, or 24 days if Plax was a former Patriot :)

But Bloombergie wanted his Patties to be avenged.

  55. Rose August 20th, 2009 at 12:57 pm

    Let’s see.
    My neighbor got robbed.
I go to another state, buy a gun and register it there.
Come back to NY and don’t register it.
I go out clubbing and decide to take it with me. Shoot myself.
    Get jail time.

    But it’s Bloomberg’s fault. Right.

  56. sfill August 20th, 2009 at 1:25 pm

    Well said Rose.

  57. Rich James August 20th, 2009 at 1:40 pm

David Letterman still has a TV Show??

  58. Maureen August 21st, 2009 at 8:37 am

Love Dave Letterman..Will defintely stay up for Tex on “Dave”…

The sentence for Plax was too severe..Prison is for harden criminal, not for an athlete on a given night taking stupid pills..

Bloomberg with is his Napoleon complex should have kept his mouth shut and stayed out of this case, but after opening his stupid mouth about maximum sentence, most knew Plax was jail bound…
