Game 122: Yankees at Red Sox, Part II
This starts in the fifth inning with the Yankees up 6-1.
UPDATE, 8:52 p.m.: Michael Bowden, called up today, is called in to pitch for Boston. Maybe the Yankees can get Marte’s feet wet later on.
UPDATE, 8:55 p.m.: Wow, 9-1 in the fifth inning as Matsui drills one into the bullpen. The line for Penny:
4 10 8 8 1 4.
That vaunted Red Sox pitching depth didn’t play out, did it?
UPDATE, 9:00 p.m.: Cano doubled with RISP. That’s it, I’m declaring this game over.
UPDATE, 9:06 p.m.: Now it’s 11-1. Yankees have outscored the Red Sox 36-9 in the last five games.
On Twitter? Follow Bob Klapisch of The Record. He needs followers. He’s at BobKlap.
UPDATE, 9:20 p.m.: Francona just pinch hit for Drew. They’re waving the white flag.
UPDATE, 9:36 p.m.: This was one of the guys Boston wouldn’t trade?
UPDATE, 9:41 p.m.: That rotten Jeter. He’s 3 for 4 with three scored and two RBI. I’m tired of these selfish antics.
Bowden is getting a Code Red here. Welcome back to the big leagues, son.
UPDATE, 9:51 p.m.: Next time you wonder why Hinske doesn’t play third, remember that he can’t play left field.
UPDATE, 9:59 p.m.: Brian Bruney = untrustworthy.
Pettitte needed to give them a lot more than five innings. Man, this is ugly baseball.
UPDATE, 10:01 p.m.: Here’s the problem, they could need Hughes, Coke and maybe even Mo to finish this off. That could change how the rest of the weekend plays out.
UPDATE, 10:08 p.m.: OK, I need to finish up my newspaper story. Play nice. I’ll be back postgame with reaction.

10 run lead you let Marte pitch. Thats the only time. I don’t trust him.

Marte for clean up duties only and hopefully that won’t occur in the next few days.
Mothra driven from Fenway!
godzilla!!
It’s getting late early in Beantown.
What’s the record for most 20 HR guys in a single lineup? Jeter, Damon, Tex, A-Rod, Matsui, Posada, Swisher and Cano can all get to 20 by year’s end.
Maybe we can let Marte pitch. Might get close to a 10 run lead.
Get Marte’s feet wet tonight so then Mo can notch a save.
SJ I think that the freak troll with the three initials was finally banned because whenever I would post something with the three initials it would get caught in the censor. And there weren’t any bad words in them. So I think that when someone is banned their screename is caught by the censor.
Sweep?
This is a game to get Marte some work
It’s good to see the guys getting Andy some runs.
Maybe with a 10 run lead I feel okay watching Marte pitch…any closer than that and he might start giving up bombs
More runs, show no mercy.
As an added bonus to the blowout, we get to see the Yankees tank Michael Bowden’s confidence in his first ever major league game.
Good times, very good times.
Yes Penny said a dirty word, just checked on DVR
Now THIS would be a good game to showcase Marte!
If you ask fat Francesa back in April who would you rather have Hughes or Bowden…hands down it would have been Bowden….by the way is Hunter Jones in the building
after this blow-out, I can wait to hear the Red Sox lovers on ESPN babble on Baseball Tonight
I can’t wait i mean
Pettitte for 6 or 7, then some combination of Bruney, Marte and Robertson cleaning it up. Let’s keep it simple.
Is V-Mart trying to break the record for most passed balls in a game?
arod’s back
“Matsui hits a home run off of future HOFer”, said Peter Gammons.
Since the last yankees sweep the sox have gone 7-3.
Papi hit a few HR and there was all this talk about the Sox stabilizing and being on the “comeback trail”
But that was against buoyed by facing the Tigers and the Jays.
Tonight the yankees are once again ripping the heart out of the Red Sox chest.
Another utter beat down. They are just crushing the sox hitting without mercy.
They’ve squared up one ball after another.
And tonight was an absolute must win for the Sox.
With Tazawa going tomorrow against AJ the thoughts of getting swept again are going to creep into the Red Sox minds.
They can’t count on winning Beckett’s game because they are facing CC.
Brad Penny – amazing how a “no risk” move could be such a death knell.

Looks like Damon will be ok – it’s just a bruise. Man, I was worried – how many little ticky tack injuries have the Yankees had lately?
MG, I thought Andy was done…….and I’ve never been so glad to be so wrong. He’s given us not just innings, but quality innings.
I saw a discussion earlier about the Yankees and how they can’t assume that our older players are going to produce the same way that they are this year. Well, Jeter I think will continue to be his usual self and Alex should be better. Cano, Tex……..they’re in their prime. I totally agree about Damon and Posada. Since we think the Yankees understand that they can’t stay pat and count on the older guys to be as good (and we won’t have Matsui), what can we do to improve the team or even make it better? Are people ok with a Melky/Gardner platoon? I’m iffy on that – I don’t know that they can put up the same numbers. Most of us don’t want Bay or Holliday…….so, what can we do?
So remember around July when everyone was saying Boston should trade a starting pitcher since they had so many good ones and no room for the great John Smoltz and Clay Buccholz?
Robbie
When a slumping Cano doubles with a RISP off you….well…
oh boy
cano bringing up that RISP avg
LOL It’s not over yet………the game is still only in the 5th……
Wow. I was surprised that Cano got that ball 2 call. I think that would have been called a strike for Penny. Good thing, since he laced the next pitch for the double.
This is fantastic. Much more enjoyable to watch than the 15 inning affair two weeks ago.
Welcome to the big leagues, Michael Bowden.
Pete – how about this one b Sterlng – a ribbie for Robbie!
Laura – I like this new Alex! He’s a keeper.

Is V-Mart trying to break the record for most passed balls in a game?
****
If Posada caught a game like V-Mart is tonight, they haters would be marching in a parade to Boston with pitchforks
let the sox put a claim on Marte, what do they need Wagner for when they can have this guy.
payback is a mutha!! This is for going up 8-0 on us in the beginning of the year. Now they know what it feels like.
What year was it when the Yankees started out 0-8 against the Red Sox and it looked like they would NEVER beat them?
It seems like a long time ago…..
Michael bowdens delivery is so weird, I know he throws hard but looks so soft his arm movement.
No idea if there will be a sweep, though my Lord it looks like a major league team playing against a sandlot team. I don’t necessarily think that the Sux are going to look good overnight. So I think that if our pitching holds up, we are good to go.
Meanwhile, getting the first game is the most important from a psychological standpoint, especially when you are at someone else’s stadium (or in this case, little league field.) So for my money, anything beyond this is gravy.
I HATE lopsided games. It makes me feel sad for the opposition. Except for this opponent. Truth.
It really feels like 1998. This team is almost that good.
Everyone remember the shills for the soxs saying the Red Soxs could trade Penny for top level prospects. LOL
So much for Cano’s “slump”.

“Wowza. Isn’t this the kids that shut down the Yankees in the first series?”
Yup. But simply put that was an entirely different yankee team.
Bowden has such a straight fastball. He comes right over head and there just isn’t much movement on the ball.
I was amazed the yankees didn’t tatoo him last time.
But right now they are on every pitch.
Bowden is a key piece to why the Red Sox are purported to have such a great minor league system. He was – by far – their best pitcher left in the upper minors.
It’s a different time now. These are different teams.
All that nonsense about the Red Sox being “winner,” “the better team” and how the yankees just “couldn’t” beat the Red Sox seems like a long time ago.

You’re much more compassionate than I am Jeff, I don’t feel bad for Bowden at all
I love Kay. He says the Sox will take the wild card because “they know how to win”
Meanwhile the only reason there’s a question at all is because they’re not winning.
A little game within the game. How big would the division lead be if we had split the first 4 games?
“I kinda feel bad for Bowden, not exactly an easy spot for him on his first day back in Beantown.”
I don’t because if he pitched well, we’d hear how “deep” the Red Sox minor league system is, when it really isn’t. So, I don’t feel bad at all for him.
LET IT RAIN
NO MERCY!
So much for the theory that NYY can only score and win with home runs. Only 2 in 4 games, but, 2 wins and a 10 run lead in the 4th game.
11-1 now. Hopefully the Yanks don’t use up all their runs tonight. They might need them later in the series against Beckett.
Erica, lol – I know you’re just joking, lol. Also, I think you lowballed it at 50……..try 10000 times more worried, lol.
“payback is a mutha!! This is for going up 8-0 on us in the beginning of the year. Now they know what it feels like.”
Benny this is karma for Ortiz lying through his teeth at his press conference. I think we got a ton of karma due to Clemens sex, lies, and photographs but I think it is finally over since he has been exposed as a total fraud. Now it is the Sux turn to take their hits.
Gammons was into the Tangueray & tonic 3 innings ago.
This hitting never gets old.
11-1.
Utter destruction.
Keep piling it on.
Would it kill Jeter to personally dedicate this game to Jim Rice in the postgame interview? I would pay 2 grand to see this happen.

if the Yanks were to miraculously win the season series against the Sox, knocking them out of the playoffs, and go on to win the World Series…
I think the 2004 “choke” will be avenged!
I think the Red Sox are in a tough spot, if they go with VMart behind the plate they miss out on Varitek’s superlative pitch calling and defense. If they go with Varitek behind the plate their lineup suffers. If I were Francona I’d stick with Tek behind the plate because he has a better chance of winning a pitching duel with the Yanks than a batting brawl.
Too much hustle from Derek. He should be more like the player Jim Rice’s twisted imagination makes him out to be.
We need the 5th inning to be over quickly now.
Andy can’t walk anyone. Just throw the ball over the plate and make it an official game.
The selfish Jeter hustles in an 11-1 game to beat out a double play. I hope somebody sends this game tape to Rice so he can see how much of a moron he really is.
I was kidding about Jeter stealing, of course.
Erica, hope you understand the references to Jeter being selfish are also sarcasm.

Gammons just smashed his Michael Bowden bobblehead against the wall.
ESPN might send him home for the night.
Is this Bowden kid supposed to be good? I can’t tell from this angle…geez, Andy is growing old on the bench, not that he minds I’m sure, 10 run pad.
* funeral in
Tough spot for this kid to come into.
“11-1 now. Hopefully the Yanks don’t use up all their runs tonight. They might need them later in the series against Beckett.”
On a serious note I worry about that too. It seems that when the Yanks get a ton of runs in a game, the next day they are dry. But with this team there may be just enough to squeak by Beckett. Though he has slipped a bit too so it may be easier.
Michael Bowdedn = Mark Melacon 2.0
tj-
I didn’t realize you were joking when I posted that- it occured to me after. But I still don’t think a steroid joke is very funny.
Either way, I am sorry I jumped down your throat
Bowden might need therapy after this game. Poor little lamb
To be fair, no one should ever have to make their major league debut with guys on 1st and 3rd with no one out down 5 against the best offense in baseball in a bandbox stadium.
With that said, like Kramer, I’m LOVIN’ every minute of it!
“I think the Red Sox are in a tough spot, if they go with VMart behind the plate they miss out on Varitek’s superlative pitch calling and defense.”
Varitek is throwing out 9% of baserunners. 9%.
That’s the lowest rate I can remember seeing for a long time.
I agree that they are stuck at catcher. Martinez is not good behind the plate at all.
But Varitek now has major defensive problems as well.
Throwing out runners isn’t everything behind the plate. It’s usually on the pitcher.
But 9% is stunningly bad.
fair enough erica.

Man, Tex is just driving the knife into the heart of Red Sox Nation. “Look at what you could have had”, he says.
There’s Jetes again thinking about his numbers couldn’t pull up at 3B like Jim Rice’s teammates.
Where is Mills Lane when we need him?
CB,
I remember some chatter about the Sox wanting Miguel Montero from AZ in the spring but they wouldn’t give up Buchholz for him.
Montero looks GOOD! thankfully they couldnt pull the trigger.
Will people here get upset at Alex if he hits a HR? Cuz it will be a tack on.
pour it on!!!!! more!!

SOSH:
Just looking at Gameday, but it looks like Bowden is getting squeezed a bit.
“Good times never felt so good….”
ESPN will pretend the game didn’t happen.
Yeah I feel for Bowden too. He is the sacrificial lamb. I don’t know that it’s a good thing, but maybe Tito feels the need to save all of his arms.
So here’s the good thing about Texas not winning. As long as we beat the Sux, Texas loses no ground. But the Rays make up ground. Now THAT’S what I want to see!
What was V-mart saying to Bowden?
“Who’s ready to rent some caaaaaahs”?
I hope that Pettite is keeping fresh on the bench.
“To be fair, no one should ever have to make their major league debut with guys on 1st and 3rd with no one out down 5 against the best offense in baseball in a bandbox stadium.”
This isn’t Bowden’s major league debut. He was up earlier in the season and has pitched against the yankees.
Bowden was of course one of the key pieces in the red sox generous trade proposal to acquire Felix Hernandez and Roy Halladay.
Fuhgettaboutit.
Only negative is Pettitt’s been on the bench awhile.
Ok this abuse of Bowden is payback for abusing Chase Wright a few years ago.
speaking of songs:
appropriate for the boston crowd would be depeche mode’s “enjoy the silence”
Teixeira looks like he’s personally trying to stick it to the Red Sox organization every single game he plays. Biggest free agent mistake the Red Sox have made since JD Drew.
CB – I was thinking the same thing. Nice job beating me to the punch.
“Too much hustle from Derek. He should be more like the player Jim Rice’s twisted imagination makes him out to be.”
Gives standing ovation…
I remember a few years ago, going to a Saturday game at the Stadium (my wife’s birthday, no less), where the Yankees got killed, something like 18-2 against the Red Sox. We could clearly see Ortiz, Manny, etc, yukking it up after each score.
The Yanks can’t score enough in this game to suit me.
i love how we are still working the count in a 12-1 game…
Can Godzilla strike again?
wow West didn’t call that a strike? I’m shocked.
I bet when Bowden will have a good cry when he goes home tonight.
Save some runs for AJ boys.

Montero has had a fantastic year. This was the big brek out year people thought he might have in him.
I have no idea if he was actually ever on the block. It’s hard to know with Red Sox leaks because they are always on the verge of acquiring everyone.
At this point if Buchholz isn’t everything he was cracked up to be the opportunity cost of keeping him will be huge.
Every word that comes out of Bowdowns mouth is the F word, hahaha kid.
He’s crying hahaha

Peter,
Enough with the Rice remarks. By you continuing to harp on it by sarcastically writing “that selfish Jeter,” with each post only drags this thing out. Jim Rice is an idiot, leave it alone. You’re better than that.
GO YANKS!
Love how they are working the count and still having good ABs.
It will pay off tomorrow. Boston’s pen still has to pitch 4 more innings.
I would guess they would get Bowden out of there before it gets embarrassing, not throw him to the dogs like they did Traber.
That means they need to use Bard, Saito, Delcarmen etc. in a blowout game. Probably no more 1 inning each.

Alright, Andy, enough.
Nuts!!!
Sitting for half an hour after four innings isn’t exactly good for a pitcher.
Okay he’s now giving runs back. Not good.
Andy not looking too sharp now, I think that LONG inning hurts him.
I can’t blame Pettitte because of the long rest, but he needs to find his inner Joba and bear down to get through 5 innings.
rats the size of a small pony behind the green monster???
This is making me a little nervous. Just get out of this inning so I feel good.
By the way, who’s faster than Ellsbury? Crawford isn’t.
“How do you manage having more than one Red Sox fans as family, Trisha?”
Angel, I am the ONLY Yankee fan in my entire family. The rest are Sux fans. And I have five siblings.
Hinske is a mess in left, what position did he play for the Sox? It looks like he’s never played there before.
I really hate Dumbsberry.
Terrible job by Pettitte. Did just what you don’t want to do and that’s give them life.
Get the bullpen up because he’s two big flies away from making this a game again.
My guess is No Marte tonight.
Andy was in a groove last inning. He’d settled in and with the long rest he’s lost his command again.
Just need to get one more out.
Oh wow – you’re seriously outnumbered… thats bravery and dedication, Trisha.
An inning like this does two things….it inflates Pettitte’s ERA, but, more importantly, it gives Boston a feeling of confidence. That’s not good going into the rest of the game or the next two games, for that matter.

I live 40 minutes away from Fishercat Stadium and last month saw Montero hit a HR against them.. Great place for a ballgame!
Pettitte doing his best to make this a close game.
Having Klap in your twitter name probably isn’t a good marketing idea.
I guess that long break is having an affect on Andy. I just checked the radar in Boston and there is no rain anywhere near the ballpark so this game will probably go 9 innings. West’s strike zone is pretty bad tonight. Pitches that were strikes in the 1st inning are balls in the 5th. Something needs to be done about umps and making bad calls. It is getting pretty bad.
I’ll be very surprised if this isn’t Pettitte’s last inning; if he even finishes it. I’d say he has a 2 run leash right now. If he can’t finish the inning before then, he’s got to come out.
Where was that? How was that not a strike? Joe West trying to get his team back in this game?
Seriously MLB needs to do something about the Umpires. If they are this bad with calling balls and strikes they need to be fined and/or suspended. There is no excuse for that.
Why does the smallest guy on their team use the biggest cup?

Compensation issues?
We should win this game, but does anyone think Marte and crew will shut the Sox down the rest of the way? Wins against the Red Sox never come easy. The end result might be 14-9 or something like that.
I really hope Francona helps us out and starts resting his regulars. Even though we’re winning, I still don’t want to see our B level pitchers out there throwing 30 pitches per inning.
DT: very funny. You think the Aug. 31st giveaway comes frozen?
“Angel, I am the ONLY Yankee fan in my entire family. The rest are Sux fans. And I have five siblings.”
I’ll say a prayer for you trisha. Of course, with those kind of numbers and you’re a Yankees fan, someone is watching over you already!
Well, the long inning hurt Andy, I say let him out for 1 more and then let Bruney & co finish off the game. Doesn’t have to be a pretty score, just win.
Why does the smallest guy on their team use the biggest cup?

Anyone want to take a shot at this?
Anyone?

KenDavidoff: I don’t want to say Eric Hinske is struggling in Fenway’s LF, but A-Rod just handed him a GPS.

Why does the smallest guy on their team use the biggest cup?”
Gotta make up the size somehow.
Need to lay off Andy. If the score had been 6-1, different story. But it’s still a decent game for the Yankees.
The only drawback is that it’s given them hope for tomorrow. Let’s hope that AJ yanks it away like a bully.
Zach in Port Jeff August 21st, 2009 at 9:32 pm
What’s Andy’s pitch count at?
====================
97
Official game.
Keep pounding. No letup.
4 innings at Fenway 8 runs never seems enough.
Joe West is a joke!
Zach in Port Jeff August 21st, 2009 at 9:32 pm
What’s Andy’s pitch count at?
____________
97 pitches.
That’s a bad job needing yhevpen for 4 innings when you start the inning with sn 11 run lead.
Andy did the same thing in Atlanta when he coughed up a 7 run lead.
He’s the one guy on the staff that seems to have real problems pitching with large leads.
The wind is blowing out and this is still a game.
Gotta keep scoring.
“OK, so maybe it’s not the white flag as Pettitte is getting knocked around in this inning.
It’s rarely nice crisp baseball when these teams play. ”
Pete you may have noticed that Pettitte sat 36 minutes on the bench? Jerry Remy certainly did and suggested that Andy’s problem may have come from that. We all have watched pitchers who were sailing along look bad after sitting for a while.
So as opposed to seeing this as “yet another game that just isn’t nice crisp baseball between these two teams” I see it as the predictable residuals that are a result of our pitcher sitting out a very long time.
Therefore, I am not having any pangs about the fact that the Sux are suddenly hitting. When a pitcher isn’t locating he is going to get hit. That simple.
I can see Pettitte pitching the 6th inning and going batter to batter.
m: optical illusion.
Krotchman at first?
Headed into that inning the yankees probability of winning this game was greater than 99%.
The Red Sox score 3 runs.
And now the yankees chance of winning this game is still around 99%.
Girardi desperately wanted Andy to get through 5 innings. Time to get a few runs back to let Boston know these Yankees mean business.
Can Andy give us one more? Am I getting greedy?
It’s funny… we may need to use the pen as much as Boston does. And we’re winning by 8 runs.
I hope Girardi doesn’t call off the dogs…
get more runs
lol, I thought that was gone… I think Po did too.
Nick,
I see, they taught illusion in magic person school. Too bad he flunked.
This game is bound to end with Mariano in it in the bottom of the 9th.
“DT: very funny. You think the Aug. 31st giveaway comes frozen?”
lol…. yeah bring your own koozie.
OMG…Another ball crushed. At least he made it to second base.
Posada running at full speed sends shivers down my spine. Painful to watch.
Gotta love Jorge though.
well that was a little scary
but as long as Andy goes to the 7th with 5 or less runs then were good
Green in left Kotchman at first
Is there a whiter flag for boston to wave?
“Lou_in_Vermont August 21st, 2009 at 9:35 pm
I hope Girardi doesn’t call off the dogs…”
I don’t think he will just yet.
It’s not a “bad job” by Andy because Boston is going to have momentum. They are down 8 runs.
It’s a bad job because we have to burn through our pen for atleast 4 innings.
“I’ll say a prayer for you trisha. Of course, with those kind of numbers and you’re a Yankees fan, someone is watching over you already!”
Joe I, that is a very sweet thought and I’m sure it’s my mom, who is the reason that I am a Yankee fan. I’m sure she made it her business to track down Joe Di in heaven.
Swisher is the only hitter in the line up without a hit.
Time to change that.
It’s hard to get on Andy when he was sitting for so long……..I can’t blame him for being rusty. If he and the rest of the pen can’t hold an 8 run lead then shame on them.
I can’t believe some of you are worried about this game and believe the 3 garbage time runs just scored by the Sox could give them ‘confidence’ for tomorrow. Any pitcher sitting for as long as Pettitte did and having a 12 run lead is going to lose his edge. The ‘pen is well rested and should be able to take it from here without any problem.
Rob B August 21st, 2009 at 9:38 pm
Swisher is the only hitter in the line up without a hit.
Time to change that.
____________
Swishy joins in on the fun.
“Why does the smallest guy on their team use the biggest cup?”
Well it is a Sippi Cup. Goes nice with the high chair and “I’m Tito’s boy” bib.
This is their best pitcher from Pawtucket?
boy, Bowden is doing an incredible Anthony Claggett imitation in this game…
The Sox are not going to come back in this game.
However, it kind of sucks we have to burn through our pen (use atleast 3 relievers)
That’s the main reason I never wanted the Yankees to get rid of Melky. He LOVES playing the Sox.
Andy was throwing strikes.
That was so selfish….
Jete is on fiya!!!
I’m calling it, time of death 9:41pm.
pure and utter destruction…
quick question: who’s better: derek jeter or mahatma gandhi?
I dont feel bad for Bowden at all.
I also can’t stop laughing.
Life is good
Blow em out.
this is nuts..
Where is Uncle Ellsworth??? I’m not so sure about my Jeter guess now.
My manlove for Jeter is reaching previously unrealized levels
this is complete domination. andy gives a few up, we get em back.
Aaannnd we’ll take those runs back and more, thank you very much.
20+ runs would be nice. I really wouldn’t have a problem with that.
Give 3 up, get 3 back…I luv this team!
Man, this kid’s gonna need therapy
Bowden’s ERA is taking a big hit from this. He really looks poor out there.
There goes Jeter being selfish again. How do his teammates put up with him? It’s just Jetes being Jetes, I guess.
those red shirts are awful. painful to look at. hahaha
I wonder who the Sox will call up tomorrow after they send down Bowden?
Guess the Yanks missed batting practice today and are making up for it.
Too bad they sent Pena down – they need to stop running up the score. maybe they can sub in some pitchers to play the field and hit to keep this under 20 runs.
That selfish Jeter is such a compiler.
Another “vaunted” Red Sox pitching prospect.
It’s why some of us laugh at how some members of the media overhype their prospects.
This is like Billy Draber back at the stadium. leave him in there to eat innings.
I just don’t know how Jete’s couldn’t just take a walk. Shame on him.
and y’all think jorge is bad behind the plate?
This kid has nothing on the ball but his fingers.
Interesting how Francona doesn’t seem worried about ruining the confidence of his team’s hottest pitching prospect. Instead, he’s letting him stay out there, get embarrassed, in order to save his pen.
I know he letting the kid take one for the team, but Bowden looks like he’s going to cry.
And now, they’re going to use Delcarmen to mop up. Wonderful.
Don Orsillo (Sox commentator):
“you just hope this doesn’t mess up a guy like Bowden, who is a really great prospect”
Damon needs to take the Yanks to see Creed more often…
People need to relax on the Pettite issue.
Yankee fans are still paranoid about losing to the Red Sox.
You know what the most telling part of this game has been?
Tito pulling his starting players in the 5th and 6th inning of the first game in a three game set against the yankees.
That is just hard to believe. Tito has pulled Youkilis and Drew.
How high has Tito raised the surrender flag?
He sent Bowden out again to absorb more abuse when it was obvious that the yankees are seeing the ball right out of his hand and squaring up pitch after pitch after pitch.
Tito has surrendered this game. How embarrassing is it for the sox players left out on the field to player through this?
And yankee fans are worried about some magical red sox comeback because Andy gave up 3 runs.
Send Andy back out there. It’s not a problem in the least.
Billy Traber could have done this for them…
Plus they’d save gas on those lengthy Pawtucket/Boston commutes.
We all know how wise Theo & Co are when it comes to spending their money.
Was V-Mart this bad in Cleveland? Geez, he’s making Varitek look good.
“Oh wow – you’re seriously outnumbered… thats bravery and dedication, Trisha.”
It’s a weird dynamic, Angel, because we all have great respect for each other so we tend to be sensitive to each others’ feelings, even when it comes to sports. It has actually been really easy for me because the Yankees have always been the better team. So I never suffered that end of things. And I came by my love honestly – and young – so there has never been a question about my team loyalty.
You know, it’s just there.
So I can’t take any credit whatsoever! I think if the situation were reversed in terms of the team with the better pedigree it may have been more difficult for me to be on my lonesome team-wise.
There’s that selfish Jeter again, padding those stats
V-Mart was such a great pick up, the Saux really needed a backup catcher.
Wow.
Bowden.
Wild pitch, 11 run lead.
Guess we got those 3 runs back pretty quick huh?
A wild pitch why don’t you. I really am feeling sorry for this kid. They should not leave him in there to get pounded. They have NO ONE else they can put in?
Every Yankee in the line-up has an RBI. Well minus Damon, but he didn’t get a fair shot.
nice that Francona wants to save the pen, but cut the kid a break, that’s just asinine. almost as bad as leaving billy traber to hang out to dry and throw 60 pitches til his arm falls off and release him the very next day.
plus i wanna see the rest of the sox pen get taxed.
I’d put Marte in LF next inning. 2 can play this game.
Yanks should start running the bases clockwise.
Swisher could pitch soon.
Shouldn’t some one point out that as a lead off hitter Jeter;s job is to get on base.
Aren’t the guys in Red Shirts always the first ones killed on Star Trek?
Just sayin’…
there is no need to use 3 more pitchers in the game, Mitre is rested, he can go 3 if they want Marte to get some work or just pitch the rest of the game-what are the Sox going to score, 4 more runs off him in 4 innings?
Did Bowen kill someone, I feel bad
“That is just hard to believe. Tito has pulled Youkilis and Drew.”
Why did he pull Youkilis? He just recently had a 5 game break. I didn’t realize being a jerk took so much energy.
Funny you bring up Billy Traber, see this post via Boston.com:
“Bowden will have to wear it to protect the bullpen, no matter how bad it gets. He’s this weekend’s Billy Traber, basically.”
Bowden’s ERA is over 17! Talk about throwing him to the wolves.
Bowden was scheduled to start in AAA tomorrow night but bringing a young pitcher in on 4 days rest and asking him to come out of the bullpen in the middle of an inning and then proceed to throw a lot of pitches is not looking out for your young pitcher’s health.
Boston has a deep pen but in blowout games Francona will always abuse 1 or 2 guys.
I couldn’t believe the disregard he showed for Traber in the last series we had with them – leaving a LOOGY out for inning after inning.
I amn’t always in agreement with the bullpen calls Girardi makes, but at least we look out for our guys.
Wow you can hear a pin drop at Fenway.
If Singleton or Kay don’t talk you hear nothing.
he jussssssst miss that
“This is their best pitcher from Pawtucket?”
Not just that. Bowden was one of the crown jewels of their system.
One of the guys that the Mariners or Jays would have been fortunate to get in exchange for Felix or Doc.
Bowden is close to the cream of the crop.
I think I heard a Socks fan fart in deep right field.
This is like Torre leaving in Edwar after he gave up 3 walks and a grand slam
Well if that’s the case scorpio, i hope the kid didn’t unpack his bags.
About players crying – that always hurts my heart, it doesn’t matter what team they’re on. Though I seem to have some automatic mechanism that makes me cry when I see someone else crying. I told ya. I am a walking sponge.
There are few dogs to call off tonight.
The bench is Hairston and Molina.
Put Swisher in on the mound. If he fails let Marte come in
“BET THAT STREAK ENDS: The Yankees have played seven straight games in three hours or less.”
I don’t know Pete, it’s gonna be a close call.
(sarcasm)
Francona should be charged with domestic violence for leaving Bowden in the game.
Martinez is a really bad defensive catcher.
If he’s not the worst defensive catcher in the league, he’s in the Top 2.
The Six are nuts to believe he can be their everyday catcher next year.
“Oakland Athletics pitcher Justin Duchscherer has been diagnosed with clinical depression and will miss the rest of the 2009 season as he undergoes treatment for the condition, his agent said Friday.”
Good luck, Justin.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....BHeadlines
Wow. Poor kid. But his ERA’s not too bad, thought it’d be worse with 7 ER.
Bad job by Tito. The kids are more important than saving the bullpen. Burn another pitcher.
Kay bringing up Rice now.
What made you be a Yankee fan in the first place, Trisha?
Bowden now has a higher ERA than Marte. That’s bad.
10 run lead is back. Paging Damaso Marte! PAGING DAMASO MARTE!
My prayers has been answered…happy as a clam…score more runs please…strike fear in Bowden’s mind (wait till he faces us again)….whopee…time to get out of work and celebrate!!!
error on Cano?
they trying to kill his gold glove chances????
Wow.. Teix nearly accidently did the splits there.
Meanwhile, why is Andy Pettitte still in the game? They brought Marte in for a reason, now pitch him while the lead is 11.
Wow, prop to Kay who brings up that classless jerk story!
Remy just stuck up for Robby. Said he had to go a long way to make the play and that it was by no means an ordinary play. Said it should have been a single and not an error.
stop giving them life…
Any bets on whether Bowden comes back out for the 7th? They’re going to send Bowden right back down tomorrow anyway, so what the hell . . . .
enough, take pettitte out.
AJ is a guy who has been giving us innings and he is going tomorrow
CC is obviously a horse and he is going on Sunday
We have Monday off. We had yesterday off. Gaudin’s game is the only game where the pen has really worked since Sunday.
Stop worrying about the bullpen. They are plenty rested.
Man, it’s been a struggle for Andy tonight.
The long inning really messed him up.
W T F ?!
those are fun throws to watch but that’s not the first time Cano’s flip throw has pulled Teixiera off the bag. He clearly had time to stop and throw. At what point does it become hotdogging? It’s one thing when it’s his only alternative but quite another when he chooses it over a higher percentage throw.
dang, that was bad…
I thought the Yankees offense was struggling and the Sox “hot” bats were a concern?
kangaroo court! kangaroo court!
Now Melky, you are the Captain of the outfield…
Not at all a good play by Cano. That’s just something you never see from him, and that’s a bad throw.
Wow, how do they let that drop? Big Sloppy shouldn’t get a hit for that.
Oh boy.
That’s a hit!
Peanuts in his eyes?
that looked like Melky’s fault to me, but who knows…
that was bad baseball there!
That play Cano just made shows what a garbage stat errors can be and why you can’t judge a players defense by the errors he makes.
How many other second baseman would even get to the ball to their right.
Cano makes a fantastic play. He could have just eaten the ball and not made the throw.
Most second baseman don’t even have the arm to try that throw even if they were to have the range to field the ball.
But he tries to get the out and just pulls tex off the bag.
And for that athletic talent and effort Cano is awarded with an error.
Awful.
This game isn’t over. Far from it.
Yo LO TENGO!
Yo LO TENGO!
Hinske is NOT good out there at all.
Cano got a tough break with the error.
Melky…when is Gardner coming back again?
Melky: Jetes told me SS has priority
Wow. How can that be a hit? That was sky high. Sympathetic scorer.
If Hinske’s having trouble in LF, the CF should take charge.
Even though the Yankees are killing the Red Sox. This was not a good outing by Pettitte.
Yikes. That’s a terrible job of communication.
I don’t blame Pettitte for this. He looked good enough the first few innings, and then sat for 35 minutes or something, and looked achey ever since. This is one of those times I wish we WEREN’T up 10.
Eh. Didn’t think Pettitte should have been in another inning to begin with. He was starting to lose it last inning.
don’t say that SJ44….let’s stick a fork in it….
Come on guys…..gettin’ sloppy
That’s all on Melky. With Swish and Hinske out there, if Melky can get it, catch it. At least it happened in a blowout and not a close game.
Pete Eric backed off so Melky could get it.
nice job joe. 5 gutty innings 4 runs and 100 pitches WAS NOT ENOUGH huh?
All started by lazy Cano. Way to take charge Melky. Hairston should be in LF now.
I’m sorry but Andy was terrible tonight, the offense and the terrible red sox pitching is why we are ahead. I really hope he doesn’t come back next year.
At the start of the year the RS had Bucholtz, Bowden, Masterson, Bard and Tazawa all in the minors and Smoltz due back in the 2nd half.
They must look at next years team and wonder how they ended up here. Bowden could well rebound and be a decent pitcher next year for them, but with an aging, injured and expensive offense they don’t have the money to go and get more pitching next year.
I know the game’s not over yet. But look at the score and then go scroll up a bit to read the comments.
Yeah, does GGBG have a schedule to return????
This is terrible
“How can that be a hit? That was sky high. Sympathetic scorer.”
Again. One of the stupid quirks of errors.
Most official scorers will not award an error if the player does not touch the ball.
So this inning we’ve seen Cano charged with an error by making a top notch effort and Melky not get one for a terrible play.
CB if Ellsbury is running Cano doesn’t get an error, but I think in this case the official scorer took into account the runner. I don’t think Cano gets that error either way at Yankee stadium because the OS would know that he normally does that, but it is seen as a hot dog play when he had time to plant and didn’t.
I think Ace needs to get into this game.
15 RUNS SHOULD BE ENOUGH TO WIN THE FRIGGIN GAME
damn thier all getting lazy
crap too bad andy couldnt give a good outing tonight
at least we still have a steady lead
Games at fenway are never easy!!!!
bruney overthrowing…
I’d love to blame that dropped pop on Hinske but the truth is, it was Melky’s fault. That was his ball all the way, Jeter pointed to him. As the CF he has to take charge and make the play.
Meanwhile, A-rod’s range at third is a lot worse ever since the hip injury. He really has trouble out there.
Get angry Ken Singleton!
“What made you be a Yankee fan in the first place, Trisha?”
Angel it was total circumstance. My mom was from NY and so her family were big Yankee fans. Her sister is my godmother. So from a very young age I remember being driven to Yankee Stadium with my grandfather, godparents, and cousins. And my mom was a huge Joe DiMaggio fan. I truly believe that if I had different godparents I would have ended up a Sux fan. I got my love of the Yankees from my mom and her family. And this is a very funny add on, but true. A boy I went to grammar school with (and who was my boyfriend when we were 7 – if you know what I mean) was a Yankee fan. So I remember going to his house sometimes after school and watching Yankee games. It is so strange. His mom would set up two tray tables and give us ice cream roll.
90 mph slider
An error and Melky not catching the ball.
Bruney is overthrowing. He needs to calm down and just do what he’s been doing over the past 3 appearances.
No time to get unraveled. Hairston in LF next inning and add a few more runs.
come on brian take the inning back
98??
let’s play some defense…pleeeeease!!!
Yankees still need to find a way to get 12 more outs.
You wonder if Francona regrets taking out Bay and Youk now?
Andy is upset.
He’s not gonna hit all his incentive bonu$e$
“Meanwhile, A-rod’s range at third is a lot worse ever since the hip injury. He really has trouble out there.”
I noticed that also. He really looked bad moving to his left on Lowell’s ball.
Without the hip he gets to that ball and at least knocks it down.
outs….
Bruney sucks.
Strikes please.
Same Who is Brian Bruney, throws hard doesn’t know where the ball is going.
OK, I know we are up 9 runs and all but…
THROW. STRIKES.
Geez.
why is bruney pitching in this game?
Good Lord, Bruney.
Hate to say it, but this game isn’t over yet.
You cant bring Hairston in this early and leave Molina as your last guy n the bench. Sods law someone will hurt themselves running the bases if you do.
Bruney looks awful. overthrowing. for what?! cmon. end this already. throw strikes. S-T-R-I-K-E-S
10-run lead and he throws a 3-2 slider? I guess Bruney wants to make sure Hughes and Mo pitch.
When has Bruney ever “found it” this year. I don’t know what Girardi is doing here but it’s about to become a 5 run game.
What a joke man.
Crap. The Sox successfully dragged us into the mud with them.
“I’m sorry but Andy was terrible tonight, the offense and the terrible red sox pitching is why we are ahead. I really hope he doesn’t come back next year.”
Are you telling me that you honestly can’t understand a pitcher stiffening up after 36 minutes?
Tell you what. I consider those runs as residuals from that long long long inning when we scored all those runs. Unfortunate but it happens.
whats wrong with bruney??? dont give this game back.
Once again, anyone else think Mo will pitch in this game?
Bruney looks like Joba’s last outing when we were up
this lead is no longer Bruney proof.
Why does this guy always overthrow?
This game is insane
They are trying to break their own record for longest game
When you can learn to spell your name Trveor, then you can talk down about others.
Or did you have to change names too quickly to spell it right?
Yeah I agree….why is Bruney pitching?
Bruney just never does well in this role.
Get Bruney out, he doesn’t have it.
Bruney still in because?
Bruney is not pitching, he’s throwing. How can Girardi, a former catcher, not see that? It’s amazing how long he stays with someone who cleary is done.
Release this guy please.
Let’s have a short meeting on the mount please.
Throw Strikes Brian!
Great. Way to let them creep back into it. Come on Yanks you need to throw strikes. The Sox can get right back into it with a couple hits here. No lead is safe in Fenway.
Now we find out: who is Brian Bruney?
Bruney has to be one of the most frustrating players in the game to watch.
He’s been throwing the ball well. He comes into a 15-5 blow out and he’s just overthrowing over and over.
He just cannot understand that throwing harder makes him less effective.
He just can’t seem to comprehend this.
At this rate, Bruney is going to make it too easy for the Sox to get their runs back without having to do much.
not a good performance by bruney…
Wow get him out of there now!
Get him out and put somebody in the game who can throw the ball over the plate.
This lead is going down the tubes.
Strikes man!!
He is terrible. Was pitching well before this. This is unfortunate.
So…over/under on how many runs Bruney is going to walk in?
hey Bruney, just lob it in like a softball. geeze
Just when we needed him – Gonzalez comes to the plate
If Bruney walks in another run, you get him out. This is inexcusable. He had a 10 run lead, and couldn’t throw strikes. You just can’t do that.
Come on Bruney.. settle down and throw strikes.
That was ball 4!
Alex Gonzalez is a horrible hitter. Horrible.
Why would you ever risk walking him?
sweet…i’ll take the DP…
sheesh
Ok Bruney, dare ya go.
I’ll take it.
thank you
That DP changes things. A lot.
Ball 1!
Basically Bruney is useless.
I don’t wanna see him at all in playoff.
does bruney come back for the 7th?
Let me apologize to all of you for any Yankee player having less than a perfect outing. They owe you all such a big apology for being human.
And with that, I’m out. Your unpleasant whining and complaining in the light of a 15-7 score is actually nauseating.
Talk about self-entitled crybabies.
Good luck to those of you who want to brave this crap.
Nothing like a Boston SS to kill a rally. Thanks for having a blind spot at that position Theo.
just put the ball on a Tee at least then we’ll have a chance to make a play on it…..
a double play its about time
And the inning is mercifully over.
Thanks for stopping the bleeding.
not bad considering we gave them 5 outs that inning.
Wow, Cabrera almost makes it like they are playing a National league team
ok…now we can get that horrible inning out of our heads and continue the destruction…
glad they got out of it
bruney was dreadful
Bruney escaped with minor damage. Relatively speaking.
Thank god they don’t have a real short stop.
What a horribly sloppy inning. Hope Girardi lets them have it. They should be going for the jugular, 15 runs or not.
Lord have mercy on Bruney!
We need to score a few more runs now. 5-10 should be a good amount
Everyone needs to relax bruney is good, in that situation even if they slammed it we still have a good lead and he can take the pressure off himself. The dude needed to realize he was pitching to scrubs.
I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but… Don’t you think you might be overreacting just a little, SJ? lol
Everybody chill, lol. I’d rather win ugly than lose pretty.
Bruney just isn’t good. He’s like Veras. Throws hard but has no command.
strange but true –
if the score was 9-1 it would be a laugher. (8 run lead)
With a 15-7 score (same 8 run lead) you feel like it’s a lot close than it is.
And Donnie – oh yeah this game IS over. You can’t have a glass jaw and watch baseball.
These runs by the Sox are going to make tomorrow very uncomfortable for Francona.
Pulling Youkilis and Drew that early in a game at Fenway looks like a horrible move.
Yankee bats need to get back at it.
Atonement time. Let’s score some more runs!
It’s time for Bruney to give up a homer.
I’ll take that back if it turns that SJ is being impersonated, lol.
ten run lead is gone, there goes the chance to pitch marte.
Ugly half inning by the yankees. The defense looked like a little league team. You cant keep giving the red sox extra outs you are going to get burned.
Bruney hasn’t pitched in 6 days no wonder his command is off.
You have all been shamed. You are unworthy.
A pure garbage performance by Bruney.
If he can’t pitch in games with 10 run leads, he has no business on this roster.
11 run lead, and they will need the A guys in the pen if they want to win this game.
Get rid of him or bury him in the pecking order because he’s useless to this team.
adrian woj with the assist!!!
DFA Bruney. I dont care who comes up but I dont want this guy anywhere near a pitcher’s mound in pinstripes.
Pulling Youkilis and Drew, and leaving Bowdon in to get steamrolled. Nice job Terry!
My respect level for Michael Kay just went up like 3000 times
A-Rod is on fire man
dang, arod was jammed on that and still CRUSHED it…
The balls are flyin’ out!
Yay Rod
GO ALEX GO!
Arod triple.
Good to see A-Rod get a triple……or any non-HR XBH for that matter
Kay is absolutly ripping Jim Rice right now, I love it!!!
Obviously Bruney isn’t pitching like we all know he can, but lets be honest….he hasn’t pitched in a long while and he looks pretty rusty. I can’t imagine it’s very easy to pitch every 5 days or more as a relief pitcher…It’s somewhat of a conundrum, let Bruney pitch to shake the rust off and give up runs…or continue to bench him and be worthless, I think he’s going to be a very important piece in the playoffs, he needs to pitch.
Well, alright then. Right back to work we go.
A-Rod!!!! good going! Cano better drive him in.
Arod = 4-4
A-Rod hitting in the clutch at Fenway. Who woulda thunk it?
Angel-
That does sound more like SJ’s evil twin
“Get rid of him or bury him in the pecking order because he’s useless to this team.”
————-
if he is the guy who goes in with a 10 run lead, isnt he already at the bottom of the pecking order?
leave it to ARod to get a BIG hit with a 10 run lead.
Remember when people were penciling in Bruney to the playoff bullpen earlier today?
40 games left folks. He, along with the rest of the guys have to finish strong. Performances like this are going to lower him in the pecking order.
The rest did A Rod well.

I’ll take that back if it turns that SJ is being impersonated, lol.”
I just figured all night it’s the fake SJ…. lol
Used to it by now.
Let’s go for 20 !!
can someone give a quick recap of what Kay said about Jim Rice?
I’m stuck with NESN
Feel much better. Now I can drive home.
Can we still count that as an insurance run?
Especially the comments about Pettitte’s performance, Erica. The SJ that I’ve known on here would be reminding others that Pettitte was pitching after sitting for half an hour. From what I know of him on here, anyways.
The problem I have with Bruney is that he doesn’t look like he cares when he’s pitching.
10 run lead, and Bruney throws a 3-2 slider with the bases loaded to walk in a run and proceeds to give up two more.
That’s just awful.
Can’t use him if that’s his way of pitching.
He’s useless to this team.
Yep, that last comment by him absolutely convinced me too, DT.
I second BD, can anyone summarize what Kay said
We’re probably going to need MO, Coke, and Hughes in this game
That’s OK though, a win is a win.
As we know Rice called out Arod, Manny and Jeter for flaunting their wealth caring too much about the $$. Well a writer that Kay knows emailed him about looking at a old Red Sox yearbook and a question was asked what Rice’s favorite thing about being a baseball player was? He said the 1st and 15th, that’s when they got paid. Nice.
Tito putting Bowden into this game is going to look awful tomorrow.
He’s now had to use Declaramen but is throwing him in a much lower leverage situation than Bowden was in.
Bowden’s only value to the Sox was going to be giving them length to save their pen for tomorrow and he couldn’t do it.
You know, I was as upset as the next person about Bruney walking in a run. But, I just had a thought:
If he throws a fastball over the middle, it might have been 4 runs in one swing. The S*x scored 3 the whole inning. Maybe not such a bad thing to walk in that run after all.
BD…
Kay tore into Rice pretty bad.
Even brought up a story about the old Sox players guide which has Jim Rice quoted as saying his favourite thing about baseball is “the 1st and 15th of the month”.
Is that SJ44? Doesn’t seem like him, but I can’t be sure.
“Yep, that last comment by him absolutely convinced me too, DT.”
well impersonating a regular is grounds for banning. We’ll see how much he posts from here on out.

Obviously Bruney isn’t pitching like we all know he can, but lets be honest….he hasn’t pitched in a long while and he looks pretty rusty. I can’t imagine it’s very easy to pitch every 5 days or more as a relief pitcher…It’s somewhat of a conundrum, let Bruney pitch to shake the rust off and give up runs…or continue to bench him and be worthless, I think he’s going to be a very important piece in the playoffs, he needs to pitch.
could be more simple than that, maybe, just maybe Bruney isn’t that good!
Wilson Betemit for Nick Swisher.
Elf! No bases for you!
Now go bake some cookies. Make sure and clean up after your done, too.
The long innings really can make for sloppy looking play.
Nice catch there Swisher, I didn’t think he was going to get that. Girardi looked ticked off when they came off the field last inning. I don’t blame him.
I never thought I’d see the day where Jason Varitek comes in later in the game to give the starting catcher a breather
Ugly.
Bruney is so bad man. How do you walk Varitek?
Of all the Yankee starters, Pettitte is one that deserves to have a bit of a stinker. For two months, he’s been waiting to see the offense score more than 3 runs for him, while he’s been holding the other teams two two runs and less.
why in the blue heck is bruney walking varitek?
Walk a puny hitter like Varitek ? Outrageous !
Walked weak hitting Veritek? Really?
LMAO
I’m so glad they are getting married while their team is getting blown out.
Getting married while your team is losing 16-7 to its biggest rival doesn’t seem like a great omen for your marriage
How you walk Veritek on 4 pitches. Hopefully this is his last inning.
Bruney, stop walking people.
the red sox conceded this game 3 innings ago but the yanks just don’t want to accept it. please stop walking people, PLEASE!!!
Kay pretty much said that Rice talked about Manny, A-Rod, and Jeter about caring more about the money and personal glory than being part of a team and then ripped into him because there is no reason to say that about Jeter. No one has ever accused him of caring about anything more than winning and that it is ridiculous to tell little kids not to be like Jeter. Jeter has built a pretty strong reputation because he is such a team player and has such a strong passion for winning.
He then said he got an e-mail or text or something from a writer from Yahoo sports saying when that writer was little, he got a yearbook at Fenway Park in which Rice was said his favorite part of playing pro was the first and fifteenth of every month (payday). Kay then ripped him for being a hypocrite, and rightfully so.
thanks Zach

Hell yes. He’s been owed big time.
Ugly…
Just ugly.
Get Bruney out of there. He is pathetic.
Bruney looks great.
bruney really struggling out there…
Walking Varitek, and then a hbp pathetic bruney!
So Bruney really is proving himself to be nothing but slop work out of the bp. Get someone up already!!!!!!
stop hitting people.
Bruney is feeling a bit more pressure than is required.
Gutless Loser Bruney. Pathetic.
Bruney hasn’t been good at all. AT ALL. His command has been atrocious, and I don’t understand why. The guy has GREAT stuff. With a 9 run lead, he should be really challenging guys, and instead, he’s nibbling.
Then he hits Krotchman? Wow, Bruney, nice control there.
Even though Krotchman was swinging into that.
wow, Bruney is terrible.

The way this game is going, they’ll be a family of three by the 9th inning.
Bruney is making me angry.

odds of Sox winning this game – .7%
The odds of their marriage lasting 10 years has to be at least ten times that!
LOL. I was thinking that too. Erica.
Bruney doesn’t even hit the target.
Bruney came in throwing balls, more than strikes.
Can’t they just get bruney out of the game? At this point I prefer mitre for god sake.
bruney for wagner?

2-1 on nick green!!!!!
Pete just tweeted: Bruney is playing himself off the postseason roster with the second half he is having.
He sure needs a lot pep talks on the mound. Really
Let’s hope we’ve seen the last of it for tonight, DT.
Bruney needs teh goggles.
This is a really bad Bruney. He was basically called in to mop up and can’t even do that! It’s going to be bases loaded soon. Unbelievable!!
rosters expand in less than 2 weeks.
Yanks can give some new guys bullpen innings.
Bruney doesn’t have much time left to show he can be the guy he was early this season.

prediction…
if damaso marte pitches in this game, for any length of time…we will need to use Mariano to finish it.
Huge lead, and the guy can’t throw strikes. It’s simply unacceptable.
Bruney is quickly pitching his way off this team. I don’t even think Clagget was this bad.
Still need 8 more outs. Come on Yanks.
Bruney you suck!
Bruney is awful
stop it here Joe let’s go, a 9 run lead is pretty damned comfortable but cmon
Bruney what the hell are you doing?
Marte bases loaded. Yikes.
Bruney was pathetic tonight.
WALKED FRICKIN” GREEN?
Enough. That was pathetic.
Can we DFA Bruney already?? WORTHLESS.
He shouldn’t be allowed to pitch again.
You gotta be honest with yourself tj….we’ve all seen what he is capable of, though, I have to admit, tonight makes you wonder!
Ok, it’s prediction time.
Marte coming in
Bases loaded
What’s going to happen?
I say a get-me-over fast ball gets knocked off the wall for a two run double.
How many times has Bruney done this…. man, you guys are professionals and it’s YOUR JOB to throw strikes
Is there any doubt Bruney was on the juice? Look at all the weight he lost. All these interesting arm problems. Now he’s a disaster.
Is there any doubt Bruney was on the juice? Look at all the weight he lost. All these interesting arm problems. Now he’s a disaster.
Marte coming in…
Ut-oh.
So now we go to Marte? Excuse me while I open the liquor cabinet.
Bruney looks insecure. Why over-throw so much? He’s going to generate a lot of anxiety in the playoffs.
Or maybe this is part of a clever plan of his to trick the Red Sox into thinking he throws smoke with no control. Then in the playoffs, he starts hitting his spots, and .. um .. boom goes the dynamite.
Yeah…that’s what he’s doing.
Can we all agree that the “Great Brian Bruney Experiment” is a failure yet?
It really is amazing how negative so many people are….we are winning by 9 runs and people are bashing the hell out of anything and everything!
what did i miss?
Bruney. 39 pitches, 14 strikes 25 balls. Dude, your team is up by 10 runs. Throw STRIKES
Unlike all of you pessimists, I predict they will have a happy marriage of at least 86 years.
why did bruney need to pitch 2 innings????
i say marte walks, or hits the first batter he faces.
So what do we do after Marte walks Ortiz?
Has Bruney been effective since the K-Rod incident?
Hold on to something, every body. Marte has been terrible this season (injury or no), and as I recall from last year, he never did very well cleaning up someone else’s mess. This could get interesting yet.
Bringing Marte in with the bases loaded to make his first appearance in the bigs in months is just not a good idea.
They don’t know exactly what marte has in terms of stuff and with the bases loaded Girardi is really risking this turning into a 16-11 game.
Marte?
I’m scared.

I guess we’re about to find out if that is true.
I hate feeling like this. I shouldn’t feel like this. But the horrible pitching is sucking all the joy out of this game. I wish I could forget about it and just enjoy the fact the Yankees have scored 16 runs. But watching Bruney walk the universe makes you wonder if any lead is safe.
Bruney looks like the new Jose Vares. Good stuff but don’t know where the ball is going.
Damaso Marte = gasoline.
Look out.
Bruney is going to be demoted from mop up duty to getting arod his pb and j
I hate to say this…
but sooner or later the Sox are going to come through with the bases loaded.

I GIVE UP.
Bruney is making no case to be on the playoff roster. Can’t throw strikes.
very dissapointed in bruney…
let’s go damaso – i still have faith in you…
Lou_in_Vermont August 21st, 2009 at 10:23 pm
Has Bruney been effective since the K-Rod incident?
Has he been his whole career?
I honestly believe Marte can be a useful bullpen guy the rest of the way.
Call me crazy…
maybe its wishful thinking? we’ll see.
Bruney is a straight up WASTE of a roster spot. Give a Scranton guy a shot.
Marte vs Lowell not good…
Marte, with Mitre warming up. I think Brandon has the right idea.
Bruney has almost always been a disappointment. He’s gone now good Bye. So Bruney 2 is coming in, Joe just always wants to make it interesting. Reminds of the Giants in football.
Just a gutless performance by Bruney. Absolutely terrible.
That’s who Bruney is though, a guy with terrible location who tries to throw the ball through a wall.
Marte? Just hope and pray he doesn’t blow this game. As sensational as the offense was tonight, the pitching has been disgraceful.
The old roid Papi hits a granny here. Oh how things change!
Sorry – this has grand slam written all over it.
Ugly baseball game this reminds me of the game Joba and Smoltz started at the stadium. Bad defense and way too many walks.
Marte is throwing strikes.
All that matters right now.
One more marte, then you can do the “salsa” with the chica in the dugout.

Uncle Ellsworth, I think I got my Jeter prediction in before your deadline (gametime, right?). After tonight, I think I might have been conservative, but maybe the Captain gets a game or two off as our lead swells.
MARTE
yes…
My boy Marte!
80-81 MPH sliders and 94 MPH fastball…..really nice differential.
Nice job by Marte!!
Welcome back Mr. Marte
We’re not bashing things while having a 9 run lead. We just want our pitcher to throw strikes and make the other team hit their way back into the game.
Nothing is more frustrating to watch than walk…walk…walk…with a huge lead.
Nice by Marte there.
seriously?
this could mostly have probably been avoided. Take Pettitte out after 5 innings and 97 or w/e pitches after he was obviously laboring and quit while you’re ahead.
he leaves bruney and pettitte in an inning too long and now Damaso fricken Marte is in with the sacks packed in his first appearance since april. great spot to put him in Joe
Wow. Marte brought it. That’ll teach me. haha
Welcome back Marte!!!
hey, not bad for Marte!
i like damaso. he was a victim of giradi’s poor usage last season and got hurt this year.
and he just did the job vs. ortiz + lowell…YEAH BOYEEEE!!!
Marte!
Very nice.
Could be a big pickup down the stretch.
Whoa! So glad I was wrong.
I just keep reminding myself that in postseason none of these pitchers will ever see a mound.

Damaso Marte= Sparky Lyle…LOL
Marte looked good, his velocity is there.
on stuff alone…marte looks good to me..can be an asset
Well now….
i was wrong. Marte actually looked pretty good. It would be good to have him throw like that the rest of the season.
A pitcher throwing strikes with a 9-run lead, good for Marte!
pour me glass while you’re at it …………
Welcome back Marte
The pitching tonight has been disappointing…….I know it’s 16-7, but with a big lead, the pitchers should be doing a better job of just getting outs.
What’d we all think of Marte?
I wasn’t able to gauge much. His velocity seemed to be ok.
A guy who can throw strikes! Who would have thunk it?
I feel much, much, much, better now.
Marte must’ve pushed the “Easy” button to ensure they got out of the inning like that.
Look for Robinson next
That’s the Marte they traded for last year.

Marte is a better pitcher than Bruney and always has been.
Just DFA Bruney and be done with it.
At this point, he’s a waste of a roster.
If he can’t throw the ball over the plate with 11 and 9 run leads, you want him pitching in the post-season?
Waste of a roster spot.
Get rid of him and move on.
Thank you Marte.Heeeee’s back.

I just don’t think Bruney has the mindset of a mop-up man. Since we have the time anyone want to nominate the best mop-up man in Yankee history?
Marte with the successful return. He was lights out before coming back to the Yankees last year. We’ve only seen him fail. Maybe he’ll surprise us and contribute.

He can’t throw strikes!! stop putting him in games. Only use him when we’re trailing by 10 runs where it doesn’t matter if he gets bombed….
Welcome back Damaso. Thank you for remembering how to throw strikes. Now just throw six more outs and I’ll breathe much easier.
That was possibly the worst relief job I have ever seen.
throwing at Nick.
I can understand Andy getting stiff and losing it, but I don’t get Bruney. He’s throwing 96 to 98 mph, but can’t put the ball over the plate.
Nice job by Damaso Marte, you guys want to DFA him too?
Settle down folks, this game is over. Bruney will be ok, he just needs to learn to harness that great stuff he has better.

SJ,
If they were to DFA Bruney, do you think they would wait until after September 1st? I’d say it really doesn’t matter. If another team wants to add him to their postseason roster, so be it.
Then again…If the Yankees held onto Veras for so long, I think they will stay with Bruney even longer.

I am so happy it’s the fake SJ44. Thank you.
i don’t blame girardi. if you have a 10 run lead, the last thing you want to do is wear out you bullpen. Andy threw too many pitches and Bruney was terrible. Not Girardi’s fault.
“Marte’s back!”
Um, let’s not be too quick on that. Many people thought Bruney was back after his last few outings, and then look at him tonight. Question is, which is the aberration? And how many opportunities does Bruney have to prove he’s better than this? Girardi sure looked pissed. One more outing like this and Bruney might never see the outside of the bullpen again.
they may have to call Melancon up in time to be eligible for the postseason.

As an auditor, I am professionally observant
And thank you.. I try really hard
Now what to do w/ Bruney….Srsly Melancon would have done better, IDK what we can…eh 10 days till call ups.
Marte did the same thing last year. In his first apperance as a yankee he struck out Ortiz in a big spot. And then he was horrible for the rest of the year. Hopefully he starts pitching like he did in pittsburgh.
nice to meet you also erica!
what are they screaming? the fans are killing me.
call me ignorant but what is an auditor?
It is disappointing that we have to waste 4 relievers in a game where we had an 11 run lead.
AJ better give us innings tomorrow. I mean if he gets bombed and we’re trailing 8-0, it won’t natter… but if it’s a 5-4 game or something where Burnett labors and has like 100 pitches in 5 innings, then it will be tough.
If Girardi was visibly, obviosly disgusted with Bruney’s performance tonight, are commenters on a Yankee blog allowed to be critical? Or is that strictly verboten?
BD I think Melancon is already eligible.
I mean, Andy will be fine – he got totally thrown off by the long inning(still has to do better than that, but he’s allowed a bad one). Bruney is a problem……Even if Marte is effective, he’s not going to take Bruney’s place, correct? Marte will just be in to face lefties…… Bruney on the post-season roster is a real problem – he’s completely unreliable.
This might be one of those wins where you feel lucky to escape and where the good feeling doesn’t last too long due to having to use the pen in a game where we really shouldn’t have had to.
The fake SJ44….I should have known!

****
I am accountant. An auditor is a type of accountant who goes to companies and tries to find mistakes in their accounting.
Then I make their financial statements and make sure that they are as close to correct as possible so people know there is no fraud going on.
Unfortunately, Bruney has been like this his entire career.
He’s just not a guy you can trust. Never has been.
At this point, roster spots in the post-season are like gold.
You can’t waste them on a guy physically incapable of throwing strikes.
Call up Melancon and see if he can be trusted.
The Bruney Experiment has to end.
They have to use their better guys out of the pen tonight because Bruney can’t do his job.
Not enough to keep a roster spot in the post-season if you are interested in winning the WS.
Bruney pitched with great intensity tonight…not sure why Girardi took him out.
technically, Bruney did not allow a single run
1.1 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit, 1HBP, 3 walks, 0 SO
That is not SJ……
Place this on Petitte. He had a huge lead and hes walking guys and geting his pitch count up. So Girardi has to pull him, but he cannot burn guys he will need in close games so he goes with Bruney, who also has the big lead and walks guys. Petitte is a veteran hes got to throw strikes and give them 7 or 8 innings
Marte > Wagner
Yes we did “waste” relievers, but we still have not used coke, hughes, rivera, roberston, that is all that matters. acves has not been used either,, that is all that matters..

They’re the people that keep track of all of the auds that her company buys.
I bet Girardi blows his usual rays of sunshine up our collective rears regarding Bruney.
“THEY ARE GOOD HITTERS” “THEY WORKED THE COUNT” “THEY ARE A TOUGH LINEUP” “THEY BATTLE” etc etc
ray,
does he just need to be on the 40man?
i think you’re right… wasnt thinking about that.
Would be nice to get Mark Melancon back into the relief mix. Seems pretty mature for a rookie.
Bruney’s been around on yanks for how long now?
3 years?
Wasn’t he on the Diamondbacks too for a while. Same story there.
Annoyingly inconsistent. Puts up a few good outings, then he flames out like tonight.
He seems real moody too, gotta be a drag fro coaches/teammates. Time to move on I think.
It’s funny how K-Rod and Bruney both have fallen off a cliff (relative to their respective successes) since their “fight”.
K-Rod has like a 6 ERA since that incident and 4 blown saves.
Bruney has been demoted to garbage time and his roster spot is hanging on by a thread.

DFA Bruney.
One of SJ44s pet peeves is walking guys with a huge lead. Anyone who reads the blog on a regular basis knows that.
nothing like a muted version of “Sweet Caroline”
Melancon will be brought up on 9/1, but he will not be eligible for the post-season. I doubt we can trust him……
Bruney is not reliable and I don’t want him on the post-season roster, but DFAing every struggling player is a ridiculous way to go…….then again, SJ’s imposter is ridiculous.
You know why Girardi was #@#$ at Bruney? He shook off Posada to throw a slider on 3-2 to walk in a run with an 11 run lead.
From there, his performance continued to go downward.
No excuses to be that bad in this game.
What if Tito didn’t take everybody out? You think he’s kicking himself about that right about now?
Horrible performance and you can no longer trust him in big games.
Move on and try somebody else in his slot.
You have the luxury of a big lead to do such things.
Mitre for two should save the bullpen…good move he throws strikes….if he gives up 5 runs who cares?

“he leaves bruney and pettitte in an inning too long and now Damaso fricken Marte is in with the sacks packed in his first appearance since april. great spot to put him in Joe”
You must enjoy being the complete imbecile that you are.
Mitre > Bruney
The wedding couple are upset.
We asked for the cookie tray not the meat tray!
Kate Hudson is sitting in CF patiently waiting to catch the bouquet…
I think tonight that circle of trust for Bruney died tonight, Eiland screamed at him, GI Joe looked pissed.
alex gonzalez can not hit
Brian Bruney. He’s so bad, he makes Mitre look good.
Betsy — Melancon will be eligible for playoffs. He was on 25 man roster prior to September 1.
The problem with the yankees pitchers are the walks. Burnett, Chamberlain, Bruney, Robertson all walk way too many hitters.
I really hope that Melancon is called up soon. They need to see if he is an option for the post season. Robertson started off just like him..the last person in the bullpen and look how much he has improved. Bruney is way too shaky. Unless he improves a ton he is not an option for the post season.
zomg! When you least expect it… Mitre!
This is it, the mission to get under 6.0 is upon us!
Mission Accomplished!!!
Ring the Mission bells!!
Mitre! Mitre! To save thee day!!
Mitre for 2 and the rest of the bullpen gets saved for Saturday and Sunday. Ugly game but the final results will be good, Yanks win and bullpen is rested.
See? Mitre can throw well to the bases, as long as he gets off of the mound. The extra heighth makes him dizzy.

Very nice inning by Mitre
okay so I was not totally way off. You do seem to be like the leader in here..and you do a good job off it!
Somehow I don’t think this game will make the Yankee Classics.
Melancon was up in the majors before 1 sept so he is eligble for the post season
Sergio Mitre = Great mop up man
Is Sergio Mitre going to close tonight?
GGBG August 21st, 2009 at 10:36 pm
Clearly you didn’t watch the Mets much last season.
—————————————————–
LOL. Good call.
Bruney and Damon were playing great until Scott Sapped all their energy at the Creed concert. No more Creed for them! Hinske seemed strangely unaffected though, he must have had an ear infection that blocked the bad vibes from entering his brain!
Bruney threw 37 pitches.
only 14 were strikes.
23 were balls.
Its me.
Walking guys with 11 run leads is an unforgivable sin to me.
Shaking off the catcher to throw breaking balls with the bases loaded with an 11 run lead is a DFA offense to me.
This isn’t little league. You can’t trust a guy who pitches like that in close games.
You look at his career and tonights Brian Bruney is who he is.
When Sergio Mitre can pound the strikezone with a big lead, and you can’t, you have to do some real soul searching.
Make up an injury and DL him if you don’t want to DFA him.
Either way, you can’t waste a roster spot with him any longer. Time to move on.
Way to go, Mitre…and I’m still not feeling this SJ44, but I will try to accept it, lol.
I had an imposter the other night as well…
Although, in my case, I requested one.
I wanted to feel special.
Seriously.
One more inning!
Erica, I don’t think you’re the blog auditor, but I have to wonder… is the game bigger than you or are you bigger than the game?
(I mean that metaphorically; I know you’re taller than the game

I don’t think I am a leader. I just like to jump in to the conversation when possible. And I started GTLU when I was bored at work one day cause I thought it would make things more interesting. It sort of snowballed and took on a life of its own. 95% of the people who post regularly here are awesome and make it fun to post here
MITRE>>>>>>>>>Bruney
let me know if anyone else is amused by this… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-A0aw70X6E
did Bruney seriously shake off Posada so he could throw a 3-2 slider? How did Posada not go out and pummel him after that shake off?
“Melancon will be brought up on 9/1, but he will not be eligible for the post-season. I doubt we can trust him……
Bruney is not reliable and I don’t want him on the post-season roster, but DFAing every struggling player is a ridiculous way to go…….then again, SJ’s imposter is ridiculous.”
Melancon can’t be trusted. Bruney is not reliable. Who can be “trusted” Betsy? Mo and Hughes? Anyone else?
Same garbage different day.
And like I said, its the real SJ44. Seems pretty obvious to me.
I don’t get the criticism of Girardi, Andy was pitching a great game, he has to sit for 30 plus minutes, he loses his focus briefly in the fifth, and you aren’t going to let him come back in the sixth? You have to let him try to finish what he started, if possible.
Bruney is a mystery, no question about it, but Joe had to give him a chance to work out of it, especially with a big lead. He didn’t do it, so Joe took him out. So why is Girardi wrong for leaving them in?
Nick-
My feet are bigger than the game!
If that’s SJ, I agree……I don’t think we should DFA Bruney, but forget him for the post-season. In fact, in a way maybe this is good for the Yankees – he’s not going to fool them into thinking he can actually get the job done. Who else do you try out? I don’t have any idea how Melancon is pitching in AAA, but seriously – we’re going to trust him?

Pretty sure that’s the fake SJ44…

yes, the yankees red sox is a great rivarly but their games are way too long…sorry..I said it
Jacoby Dumbsberry doing his best to look like Melky.
Raise your hand if you would like to see the conclusion of this game arrive soon
Remember there are 13 pitchers on the roster now, that is not ideal, even with 6 starters that’s too many. Bruney is the weakest link, no doubt about it. There is plenty of time to make up the postseason roster though, so no need to DFA Bruney at this point.
Obviously if Bruney pitches like he did tonight he wont be on the postseason roster. But you still have over a month and half to evalaute him. Its too early to worry which bullpen pitchers will make the postseason roster.

Is anyone else getting the feeling Michael Kay doesn’t like Fenway Park?
He’s called the Green Monster “rat infested” like, 10 times. He speaks the truth, but still
who gets the championship belt tonight?
Arod? Jeter? Tex? Marte? Bruney? (the last one was just to see if you were paying attention)
over under game ending 11:00..over…
Where are people getting the idea that you have to be on the 25 man by 9/1?
You have to be on the 40 man.
Ohlendorf and Veras didn’t spend a day on the 25 man in 2007, yet they were eligible for the postseason because they were on the 40 man.
You have to be on the active 40 man, not the DL to be postseason eligible.
Uncle Ellsworth (#2 needs 22 to tie #4)

Is this up to date???
And if it was TMi, you should have closed your eyes silly!
Bruney needs to go, he continues to be less than impressive.
Erica I was impersonated a few days ago also. The fake me made a derogatory comment about Damon and you came to his defense.
Wanted to tell you it wasn’t me but forgot.
I dont like michael kay…
who gets the championship belt tonight?
===============
It’s a tie between Penny and Bowden. They can share it.
SJ, I don’t disagree……except about the DFAing, which I think is extreme. The sad thing is that Bruney can’t even be used in low leverage situations…….and I missed him shaking off Posada -that’s pathetic. I’m not sure what the Yankees do with him……
no more mention of bruney please
I thought Saito was a surprisingly cheap pick-up by the Sox, but I just read the bonuses in his contract. Yikes.
He’ll probably make it into another 10 games before the year is out which would bring his salary to $6M. For a guy who is generally used in the 6th and 7th innings.
Assuming Mitre pitches the bottom of the 9th and gets through it…
Girardi only used 2 “relievers” today, one of them just called up today. Coke, Aceves, Hughes, MO, Robertson all fresh for tomorrow.
That’s not on Girardi. He has a big lead in the game, and a veteran pitcher on the mound. If Brian Bruney is going to do what he did tonight, he can’t be on the post-season roster.
It ain’t complicated. Frankly, to even have him on the roster right now is a joke.
Robertson can pitch in that role and see what Melancon can do. We already know what Bruney can do and that’s the problem.
they may have to call Melancon up in time to be eligible for the postseason.
————————————————–
No need to worry about that. Melancon can be eleigible for the playoffs because he was already on the active roster twice this season.
I don’t understand taking ARod out here. He’s crushing the ball tonight – looks great – and you’re taking away his AB to give him *one* half inning off?
I don’t get that. Let ARod bat at least and then replace him in the field for the bottom of the 9th.
A postive tonight is the red sox had to use Delcarmen, Rameriez and Siato in a blowout. They were hoping that Bowden would be able to finish the game.
LOL Where is Francesa he went on and on about how great the red sox are because they got hard throwers like Bowden and Hunter Jones.

LOL. That comment almost got you banned from GTLU cause it was so brutal. I actually forgot about it until now. Pretty funny actually.

Matsui is a beast!
Matsui with the fork.
GODZILLA!!!
I don’t know why people assume it is a fake SJ44… he is not allowed to vent? Where did people get the idea that he was some eternally positive homer? He tells it as it is.
The funny thing about Jim Rice’s comments about Jeter not walking, is that Jeter has close to 200 more career walks than Rice.
BWHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Wow- Matsui doesn’t want this game to end
Wow 2 three run homers for matsui
hmmm… maybe I should have included Matsui….
GODZEEELA
Awww geez….Gozilla’s awake again!
This could be a VERY long weekend for the Sox.
Ok Bruney walks a guy so now he should be off the roster. That’s absurd, talk about overreaction.
Tough town.
MMF, thanks!
Matsui again!
Uh oh, it’s 19-7, just like game 3 of 2004.
Wow Godzilla! With this kind of score even Bruney might have a hard time losing.
Wow Matsui. Um lets save some runs for tomorrow please.
Now it looks like we missed an extra point.
So, Joe used Bruney, Marte, and Mitre tonight.
Of those, Marte could be used tomorrow as the LOOGY.
And Mo, the two Phils, Ace, and Robertson will have had two days rest for tomorrow and Sunday, before Monday’s day off.
Looks like pretty good BP management to me. For all the carping, Joe has done a pretty decent job of managing the pen, and getting the best record in baseball. Look at the Dodgers – Torre burns through another bullpen and his team if giving back it’s division lead.
And Godzilla goes deep again. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving team and set of fans.
Matsui deserves the belt!!!! AMAZING!!!
Very funny screen-grab from RedSox.com: http://twitpic.com/esqf3
I know most people dont think Matsui will be on the team in 2010…
but I’ve always liked the guy. I’ll miss him if he does leave.
I would like to see one nore run scored and make it a round 20.
Nice night for Matsui..It’s a good thing that the kiddie park is only .302 in RF.
Man…How are we just gonna let him walk next year? He’s putting together a very solid season, and unless he retires, how can we just say, “No thank you”?
Matsui with another Godzilla night, and some of you don’t want him back for next year????
19=7, could this weekend be The Boston Massacre of 1978″ all over again?
I think we should go for 2!
Alright Hidecki- I can’t wait to hear Rice whine on the NESN postgame!!
feel the fire.
How the heck is everyone? Long time no post…
Funny stuff SJ44, you say Robertson can pitch in that role. Just a few weeks ago you were saying how Robertson can’t be trusted and can’t throw strikes. Now he’s trusted and Bruney isn’t. Right.
It was one bad outing from Bruney. Awful, yes, it was TERRIBLE. But still, it was one outing right after a stretch of 4 good ones.
Relax.
assuming the Yankees win this, if they play .500 ball the rest of the way, they finish with 97 wins. They will be better than .500, we are looking at a 100 win team here. We have to wait until the crapshoot that is the playoffs conclude to make definitive statements, but this Yankee team could wind up being one of the best ever. They only qualify if they get through Oct (and Nov this year).
I was kinda shocked how Bruney was suddenly regarded as the main guy in the pen.
It doesn’t seem like long ago that everyone hated him, he was trying to throw instead of pitch and then just as we were all screaming for him to be cut, Posada called for a breaking ball and he drilled him in the chest with a 98mph fastball. Pete was frothing at the mouth.
He was always prone to walking guys and was never a good candidate for set-up guy. His attitude sucks.
Patrick….wake up…Bruney is WORTHLESS.
Bwahhahahahahahahahaha
Pesky Pole cheapie!
Love it.
Erica- I’ve been impersonated on and off for months now. The person goes away, comes back.
Usually he/she is spewing nonsense about Posada being terrible. But to my surprise Damon was his/her victim the other night. I didn’t catch it until the next day, but I saw your response!
tIME tO iNVOKE tHE mERCY rULE
Remember when people had Bruney penciled on their projected postseason rosters? lol
Still a whole month to go. The only ones guaranteed jobs are Hughes, MO, and maybe Coke. Every other reliever has to earn it.
Girardi has shown he isin’t going to go with a veteran or a guy with experience. He is going to go with the guys who are the best… as evident by taking Albaladejo over Tomko despite the fact he wanted a long man.
Green plays LF as good as Youk lol
Been thinking the same thing Donnie. If he’d take a one year deal, or one with options? I know they supposedly want the dh spot open to rest guys like Posada, etc., but Girardi has made the dh spot work this year and kept everyone happy and rested… plus, is the NL an option for matsui anymore?
Nick Green… doing his best to get the Yanks their 20th run
Can we please shoot for an even 20?
In all honesty…If I’m being honest here…
I don’t think there is a limit to how much I can watch this. I could watch it aaaaallllll night.
this time, after a 19 run game the Yankees are going to come back out and stomp on Boston for good and finish the job this year.
miggs-
I will note the next time that it isn’t you
No he isn’t Joe Buck.
This is like the Joba vs Smoltz game at the stadium. Ugly baseball but who cares Yanks just embarrased the red sox tonight.
Why is it so outrageous to think that Melancon could replace Bruney?
Melancon was very impressive in his latest stint and he throws strikes. If he has a good September while Bruney continues to be inconsistent, I can see it.
We got our 20
Aaaaaand there’s an even 20!
Nothing like a good old-fashioned beatdown in Beantown!!
Hittin it HARD!!!!!!!
LOL SJ is allowed to vent – and I say good for him. That is the problem with imposters – now you don’t know who is who. It’s disgraceful.
Andy will be fine – the important thing is that he was pitching very well before the long inning. Bruney is a problem, but Marte was very encouraging and even Mitre did his job. It’s a beat down – whenever the Sox came back with runs, the Yankees came back with some of their own.
They better save some runs for tomorrow and Sunday…
Thanks, Swish. This…is just brutal.
tIME tO kICK tHE eXTRA pOINT
Bruney, to be fair, seemed to have turned things around. He lost weight, got command, then that injury happened. Its been downhill since then.
And Swisher just stuck the knife in a twisted it.
Thanks goodness, the final score isn’t 19-7.
Good I’m glad they got that 20th run.
Last time the Yanks scored 19 at Fenway? Anybody?
Just a bad omen.
I see my co worker agrees!! Bruney sucks.
20 runs, wow!
Now we have justice!
I agree, for the most part, with Patrick.
Bruney did look good his last few outings. He was horrible tonight.
The Yanks have a good bullpen but the #5,6, and 7 guys aren’t the most consistent. Gotta give em a break once in a while.
That said, Bruney needs to step it up fast. Right now, Robertson is easily the go to guy for that role.
Loving all of the hitting with RISP going on right now
Kick the extra point and lets go home Sweet Caroline
I like the fact that the Sox have to use some of their better relievers. ha ha
This is just an ass wh****ing tonight.
Nick….wow.
Yeah this game was ugly, but guess what? We did all we needed to do this series. Win one game. And winning the first game was the best case scenario.
Pressure is all on the Sox tomorrow to beat our 2 best pitchers to win the series… one with Tazawa on the mound.
Mr. Class. Matsui. Unfortunately he probably won’t be back and that’s a big reason why we need to win it all. He deserves a ring more than anybody. Here is a guy who apologized to the fans when he got hurt.
Melky,
honestly… do you need to stretch that in a 21-7 game???
weak
tHREE tOUCHDOWNS!
this is a massacre. OMG!
That is Melky saying, “Okay, enough, it’s time to pitch the bottom of the 9th and go home”.
Huh? Mercy rule from Joe “Moron” West?
20 runs.
Stickin’ it to Francona.
That’ll teach him to mockingly peer into the Yankee dugout the next time one of his players decides to steal home.
purenyyankee,
cheers to that!
no run! We wuz robbed! Stupid, biased blind umps.
My wish fulfilled. We scored 20 runs. That must be demoralising to SOX. They had to use some good arms in the bullpen as well which sould affect tomorrow’s game.
LOTS of empty seats!!! LOL!!!
What do you think is going through Junichi Tazawa’s mind?
Gee, with a game like that, one can’t help feeling a bit sympathetic towards the Red Sucks…
20 runs is nice, Bronx Jeers, but the important number is 5.83.
I wonder where RMD is…
This is so much fun. Pound. Pound. Pound!! No mercy. Mercy is for the week.
HEY JOE Go for 2
You take ARod out partly because he is crushing the ball. He has had a great game, let his last AB be a hit and he can come in tomorrow full of confidence.
Plus with his hip and the amount he has been on the bases and just the length of the game in general it is just sensible to let him chill and enjoy watching the others wear out this Boston bullpen.
This is going to motivate the Red Sox. We embarrassed them. They are going to come out tomorrow fired up.
AJ better be ready.. Sox are going to be angry.

Why is it so outrageous to think that Melancon could replace Bruney?
Melancon was very impressive in his latest stint and he throws strikes. If he has a good September while Bruney continues to be inconsistent, I can see it.
————————
Its possible you just have to see how they both pitch down the stretch. Bruney was pitching well his last 4 outings he just took a huge step back tonight though.
20-7, we missed the PAT.
This is fun! 21…
I was hoping Swisher wouldn’t get that RBI because I want to see him humiliated. He shouldn’t even be on the Yankees.
It’s funny that people think the fake SJ44 was posting when he’s making all the sense in the world.
Bruney will always be the throw throught the wall guy with no control. Walking three guys at the bottom of the order with an 11-run lead is absurd.
Anyway, enought about Bruney. He’s not worth the space.
The offense was great, and it was great to see Alex with 4 big hits tonight after scuffling a bit.
The pressure is completely off for the Yankees. The best the Sox can do from this series is shave one game off their lead.
20 runs
but with Tazawa going tomorrow…. is there room for improvement?
It’s great…….I don’t want to let Bruney’s sour outing spoil what has been a phenomenally good night for the Yankees. Joe, good points about the key guys still being available and strong for tomorrow……
Man, I just want this to be a quick and easy inning….
So presuming we can get 3 outs before giving up 13 runs we will have beaten the Sox 5 straight times.
Wonder how the conversations around Boston will be about how they can’t beat the Yankees anymore?
Did Lawrence Tynes miss another PAT?
Can we get rid of this guy already?
The yankees have absolutely stuck a knife in the sox tonight.
There is no two ways about it.
The Sox were feeling good about themselves coming into this series. 7-3 over the last 10 games. Youkilis was now back, Drew healthier, Papi hitting a couple of HRs.
The Yankees not only are going to win this game they are beating down the Sox in a way which is just telling them that you are not even close to playing in our league.
This was a must win for Boston. We can complain about Bruney, etc. but those are minor points.
The story of this game is told by just looking behind home plate at fenway and seeing all of those empty seats.
The Yankees didn’t just beat the Sox. They embarrassed them.
And they embarassed them by just being better.
And it’s hard to just chalk this up to one of those days when you’ve just been swept in the bronx.
I think someone stole Joe West’s dinner. That is why he is soo grumpy.
Please Kay!
Mercy!
Patrick,
Its not one bad outing. Except for 2-3 outings in the second half, he’s been terrible.
Not a guy that belongs on a post-season roster. Hopefully, Girardi sees the light.
lol man Kay is ripping Fenway Park to shreds.
This is awesome.

We embarrassed them pretty badly in the opening game LAST series, too, and look what happened after that. I’m not being cocky, I just don’t think drubbing them matters one way or the other at this point.
let’s go meat tray. 5 and a half is what we’re shooting for.
Very poorly played game by the Yankees. Even though they scored a lot, they still played bad.

Ah so what – solo shot. Let them hit 10 more and I’ll start worrying.
Awww..Captain finished must be excited about that…A 20-7 homerun.
SJ44,
You are overreacting. Bruney is the 5th or 6th guy out of the pen. If Marte continues to pitch well he’ll be dropped further. There is zero reason to DFA him. Relax.
This has been a long day but at least the Yankees are in position to win. I wish the Sox bullpen was depleted but you can’t be greedy when your offense puts up a 20 spot.
Better start getting MO lose, Girardi… dont let them get too close.
Please. Win. This. Game.

Greatest news of the morning would be Yanks DFA Bruney. Oh how nice it would be!

“This is going to motivate the Red Sox. We embarrassed them. They are going to come out tomorrow fired up.
AJ better be ready.. Sox are going to be angry.”
When will yankee fans stop being scared of the socks.
Angry?
How angry was Tito when he conceded the game in the 4th inning of a game against the yankees at fenway park when he left Bowden out there to rot?
How angry were the Socks when they pulled Youkilis and Drew from the game?
Angry?
They are holding on for deal life.
Tito has completely conceded the division and is just trying to position his team to compete for the wild card.
RConn, I have NO problem with killing Bruney, but SJ’s posts throughout the night about how the game was awful, how the Sox were making a game of it, etc…….were, IMO, extremely…….extreme. The Sox never got close enough to sniff the lead and, I’m sorry, that SJ from earlier sounded like a troll.
I think DFAing Bruney would be a mistake……he’s got some talent, so you try to work with him. DFAing every player that struggles is silly. Now, if the Yankees determine this is who Bruney is and there’s just nothing to be done with him, ok……., but I don’t think we are at that point yet. The shaking off Posada thing is a bigger issue……I think Bruney has a big head and thinks he’s better than he is. In ST, he claimed he wanted to be the 8th inning guy so he could get a future contract as a closer.
Get Mo up! Get Mo up !
(he been sleeping for two hours now, it’s almost time to go home)
LOL- Did you see A-Rod making eyes at the camera?
I’d drill Papi right now. Teach him a lesson.
Sure he’s absolutely entitled to vent, Betsy. I’d just be surprised if it was actually him. Because the way he’s been venting tonight well he’s questioned people for doing that themselves. Kinda strange is all.
Whatever, with all the impersonating that goes on around here.. who really knows. I doubt I’m me, sometimes, lol.
“This is going to motivate the Red Sox. We embarrassed them. They are going to come out tomorrow fired up.
AJ better be ready.. Sox are going to be angry.”
I’m sure the Yankees are terrfied. Bet you they won’t sleep at all.
Seriously, get a clue.
Anyone else think Pete just went home for an hour?
end this ugly game please.
We should have gotten Jorgie out of this game a while ago…

20-9 and the predominant subject matter is bitching about a reliever having an off night…
REALLY?
Sad this season is being wasted on fans like that.
“I’m sure the Yankees are terrfied. Bet you they won’t sleep at all.
Seriously, get a clue.”
Maybe you should get a clue. The Red Sox scored nine runs tonight off the Yankees.
Will someone just end this game?
It was just a flicker in time, but Mitre had a sub-6.00 ERA. Did you see it? Did you blink?
Even if Mitre gives up 5 more runs, we still have a 6 run lead…
There is a brightside,
We are winning this game 20-7 and think its ugly. Imagine how ugly it would be to be on the side with the 7
well 20-9 is more of a football score than 20-8, 3 FGs I can take better than a TD/2 pt conv
Tomorrow’s game will tell more about “omens”.
I still think Ortiz should be tested. He made a big turn around suddenly with his power. He made that turn around after a visit from dear ol’ Dad from the DR.
Brutal. Just brutal. Both teams. We got away with one here.
Tazawa better hope the Yanks bats go flat tomorrow, or he’ll give up as many runs as Penny.
Assuming the Yanks blast him, maybe they won’t have anything left for facing Beckett. But CC’s pitching Sunday and we’ll most likely be up by 8.5 games by then.
I think I could hit Mitre’s breaking ball.
Ugh. I hate the “Ortiz stance” — he’s so full of himself.
And I agree with whomever posted that Bruney has a big head. Yep — his ego just doesn’t match up with his results. Great that he lost weight, etc., but what are you opening your trap up for in ST like that for? You’re just asking for it…
This is why rearranging the rotation to make sure it was Pettitte, AJ, and CC was a good thing. Mitre pitching would have been a disaster. This game would be 20-16 if he’d started.
This game will never end.
I hardly think Mo is going to give up…….there are two outs and Mitre is pretty lousy. His performance doesn’t mean much…….
I love Ken Singleton, but who cares if the game wasn’t pretty?
The Sox might be angry tomorrow, but that won’t help them against AJ – this is not football. Maybe they will tatoo him, but it won’t be because they wanted revenge
“It was just a flicker in time, but Mitre had a sub-6.00 ERA. Did you see it? Did you blink?”
—-
Livan Hernandez is available!
It’s a known fact – the last out of a 20-9 game is the hardest.
:/
Yeah this guy Mitre is soooo much better than Bruney
Okay, thats it.
LOL well, Mitre is just going to have to take his lumps…….he’s out there all by himself.
His breaking ball is just terrible.
Really bad.
Ok, now THIS is annoying… now get MO up please
Nice job there Meat Tray.
This demonstrates why he shouldn’t start.
Mitre doing his best to make the final score respectable.
why oh why do I have Sergio Mitre active on my fantasy team this week?
Umm… are we trying to make this a save situation??
Will this game JUST end already???
Mitre, showing us his best stuff.
Damn Sergio. This is sucking on a whole new level.
“Maybe you should get a clue. The Red Sox scored nine runs tonight off the Yankees.”
That fact somehow loses its luster when its pointed out that the Red Sox conceded 20 runs themselves. Just sayin’.
Now run along.
This game is fun to watch
“We are winning this game 20-7 and think its ugly. Imagine how ugly it would be to be on the side with the 7″
That’s what people aren’t seeing.
If everyone here was told before this game the yankees would win 20-11 or so everyone would have been ecstatic.
It doesn’t matter how ugly it is.
The yankee pitching staff was awful and the yankees still destroyed the Sox.
There’s no consolation in scoring runs against Mitre.
End this please!!!
We’ve got Mitre, Gaudin and Bruney at least one of them won’t make the playoff roster. Still plenty of time to determine if any of them are playoff worthy.
Erica – there is even a brighter side: the Yankee pitchers who have gotten lit up tonight (Bruney & Mitre) will not see any post season.
Mitre can’t get in a game and try to look good.
I’m half-expecting Mo to be called to the pen at any moment now…
ok enough of this get Mariano up, it’s still a save if the team can score the winning run without batting around right?
lol this is too funny
iF tHIS hAD hAPPENED iN yANKEE sTADIUM tHE mEDIA wOULD hAVE bEEN wHINNING aBOUT tHE fENCES bEING tOO sHORT
Who cares if the Sox score these extra runs? They are absolutely meaningless………the game was over a loooong time ago.
That said, Mitre is pathetic.
That was stupid.
What’s worse?
Bruney’s walks or Mitre’s bombs?
And just when he finally got his ERA under 6.
Damnit Mitre stop screwing up our run differential
This guy is so bad…
Will this game ever end!
Do these Boston fans really think Meat tray wanted to hit the batter? come on he wants the game to be over.
Mitre is terrible, he is not a major league pitcher. I hope they find someone else so he doesn’t have to start anymore games this season. He just isn’t good enough.
this is a ugly..ugly game.
Exactly CB. Who on this line-up should we actually be scared of?
Pedroia, Martinez and Youklis are a solid 2,3,4. Not as good as ours – but good.
Those guys aside the Sox lineup is weak. It is the worst Sox team I have seen for in 10 years. They have 11 runs tonight – why, cos Andy was poor and we threw out our worst possible relievers.
We have AJ and CC starting the next two games with a fresh Hughes and Mo in the pen. I ain’t scared.
Dearest Sergio Mitre,
This game has been rather long. Please get this last out so we can all move on with our lives. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Sincerely Yours,
Erica
can this game be a two-fer? Bruney and Mitre gone for the price of 1 stinker (that we WIN)?
If Sergio Mitre gives up 6 runs in the woods, but nobody is listening… did it happen?
Good, about time someone put Baldelli in his place!
I really don’t get why we still have Mitre. Am I not understanding something? He hasn’t had a good game ALL YEAR, he completely sucks every time. There is no way that Igawa or anyone else on the Yankees AAA team is as bad as he is. He’s just absolutely unbelievably terrible. Please, please DFA him immediately. There is no use for a guy this bad. At least Chad shows he knows how to pitch! He may be rough sometimes, but he seems to understand what pitching means.
All in all, pitching was not good tonight. Luckily, RS pitching was worse or is it that our hitters are just better than theirs.
Send Mo home in a cab. Maybe that will motivate Mitre.
I love when they listen after I type letters to them. LOL
How the hell did he throw a scoreless 8th?
Wow, I was getting worried there.
Yankees win!!!!!!!!!
That lasted way longer than it should’ve.
finally!
Erica – always OPPC

*****************************************************
Now Erica, you can’t go all reasonable on us and look at it like that.
Well finally a win..
What was the spread on this game? Why can’t we just run the clock down.
I wish Singleton and Kay would just be quiet already……..who cares about these runs?
Andy was fine in the middle innings…….he lost it after the rain delay.
Make NO mistake about it, this was a beat down. When the Sox scored, they came back………….that’s the sign of a terrific team. The Sox won a few “ugly games” earlier against us…….did anyone take those wins away from them?
I feel like I just watched a pre-season football game.
LOL @ Baldelli making a little face when he got hit. You got hit with a 77 mph breaking ball.
Every time we score they answer!!!!
Except the 9 runs they had no answer for.
“ANSKY August 21st, 2009 at 11:06 pm
Brutal. Just brutal. Both teams. We got away with one here.”
Incorrect. We ran up the score, and Pettitte sat for 36 minutes and got stiff. He never rebounded from it, and let them score a few runs that they never would have scored otherwise. It also lead to him leaving the game early, and the bullpen coming in. Bruney and Mitre have been outright terrible, but they wouldn’t be in the game if we didn’t have a 9 run lead.
Sure, I’d like to have won the game 20-7. It’s a very one-sided score, and it looks even worse for them. But a W is a W. If this game hadn’t gotten out of hand, we wouldn’t have been using our worst pitchers. To say we “got away with one” is just not true.
Angel-
I’ll never do it again
What does Al Davis say? “Just win , baby”
“Hey, at least we’re still 8-5 against the Yankees this year!” — Red Sox fan
A-Rod looks like he wants to be anywhere else but this interview LOL
He is exhausted
Yanks were 15-25 with RISP !
103 plate appearences without a walk for the captain. Keep counting Jim Rice. How’s this for a numbers game:
Derek – 4 and counting
Jim – 0. Forever.
So, what did they Yanks do wrong here?
1. Pettitte got out of synch after the Yanks second big inning.
2. Bruney couldn’t throw strikes.
3. Cano got an E, but it was a tough play; I wouldv’e scored that a hit.
4. Melky and Hinske got messed up.
5. Mitre’s getting lit up while trying to throw strikes to close it out in gar-bage time.
Good points –
1. The Yanks killed Boston in a game the Red Sox had to have.
2. Marte did very well in a clutch spot.
3. Alex busted out big time in a game against the hated Sox.
Overrall, the most concerning thing longterm is probably Bruney’s inconsistency.
Gee, the Yanks only beat Boston by, what, nine? See you tomorrow.
FOX, such joy.
Oops, not the rain delay, the long inning
I think Igawa could have done better than the 2 chumps.
There I said it.
I know Mitre is Joe’s pet project, but he can’t pitch!
6.82 ERA.
Time to start pushing the boulder back up the hill.
The Red Sox just lost 20-11. It’s 11 pm.
They are now down to the yankees by 7.5 games.
And their consolation?
They have to fact AJ Burnett tomorrow in a day game.
This yankee team is brutal to play against.
You lose 20-11 and you have to face AJ Burnett and CC Sabathia over the next two days.
Good luck with that.
The yankees have already accomplished what they needed to do.
They needed to win one game. That was it.
The requirements are done.
The yankees are now thinking about sweeping the sox.
Not often I pray for rain to end a baseball game early.

I predicted this before the previous series and no one listened.
By the end of September the Yankees are 10-8 vs. Boston
oKAY.

Those 4 runs in the 9th were not so meaningless after all…
After the Lowell HR, MO would have probably come in.
The Yankees need to keep up the pressure on them. They are still behind head to head, so as far as I’m concerned they aren’t even. Gotta erase those 8 losses.

“The Show” – Yankee / Red Sox style
Welcome back my friends
to the game that never ends
we are so glad you could attend
come inside, come inside.
Right behind the glass
is a pitcher with no sass
Walking batters as they pass
move along move along.
Here before your eyes
Another line drive flies
The annoucers laugh until they cry
then they sigh, then they sigh
Come inside the show’s about to start
Guaranteed to rip the pen apart
Step inside you’ll get your money’s worth
Another curve ball ’bout to depart earth.
Come and see the show!
Come and see the show!
Come and see the Shoooooowwwww!
Mitre is only there to soak up innings and pitch justwell enough to give the insane offense a chance.
He has started 6 games and we have won 4 of them. With the rosters about to expand not getting past 5 innings won’t even matter.
The next 10 days will be interesting. Cashman will work the waiver wire for pitchers. Theo will do the same…
Melky 4-6???
They sent down Pena to keep this bum?
Giants 20
NE Pats 11
Go Eli
As long as AJ pitches a good game tomorrow the Yanks should be able to put some runs on the board against Tazawa. He is not ready for the majors and doesn’t have good stuff.
I wasn’t worried at all. I was hoping they’d come out and step on the Sox’s neck tonight. Despite the end score – they did exactly that. Francona taking out key players early in the game was acknowledgement that they did that.
Man, what is wrong with you guys?
Going into this series, Yankees had to win one. They did it basically by the second inning. The strategy at that point is to make the Sox use up their BP.
Pettitte was off tonight, and then had to sit for 40 minutes. He was rusty. Giradi let him pitch with an 11 run lead.
Bruney has not pitched in 5 days. He was rusty. Let him pitch with an 11 run lead. The guy throws 96 with movement. Get the walks out of his system.
Use Damaso Marte when letting up a GS doesn’t change the game at all.
Sergio Mitre is Sergio Mitre. He is the garbageman until September 1. Let him pitch with a 13 run lead and 2 outs.
Take each game day by day. The pitching matchups still favor the Yankees the rest of this series.
Worst case 5 up, best case 9 up. Likely case 8 up (go 2-1). This team is 6-2 on their longest road trip of the year. Give them a break.
These runs don’t mean anything.
This is now all about who is going to pitch themselves onto the post-season roster. That’s what it comes down to.
Two guys have probably pitched themselves off the roster and now have to show Girardi they can be trusted.
That’s what this is all about.
The Sox? Their small shot at winning the division ended tonight.
They are playing for the WC.
If the two teams meet in the post-season, neither Mitre nor Bruney won’t be factors in those games.
Alex was 4-4 with a triple, missed a HR by inches and a walk in a 20 run game and had 1 RBI.
That’s not easy to do.
The inning matters. When the Yankee pitchers gave up 3 runs in the 5th, and 3 more in the 6th, it made me nervous because they had a lot of time to come back. By the time they were scoring with 2 outs in the ninth, it really didn’t phase me. They were 13 runs down. 4 didn’t mean anything. I just didn’t believe they could score 9 more with just 1 out to work with.
Ugly game. But only after the Yankees had a huge lead really. Just wish Bruney hadn’t sucked the life out of the middle of it.
You want to talk about DFAing somebody, I nominate Mitre.
He has shown me nothing since they brought him up. I thought he might give them a few good innings, but nope, he’s not major league material.
Yanks are now 15-4 in August. Continue playing at that rate (not likely) and they will have 108 wins…..
Peek PAUCK!!

“I’m sure the Yankees are terrfied. Bet you they won’t sleep at all.
Seriously, get a clue.”
Maybe you should get a clue. The Red Sox scored nine runs tonight off the Yankees.
————————————————————
If this wasn’t a Boston fan’s attempt at spinning a total throttling of the Red Sox, I’d say this was said in jest. However, he really believes this. Boston fans don’t normally have a sense of humor like that…Dennis and Ray being the exceptions to that rule.
That is the trouble with long big scoring innings. It can take the starter out of the game.
