LHYB poll: How will this weekend go?

Posted by: Peter Abraham - Posted in Misc on Aug 21, 2009 Print This Post Print This Post | Email This Post Email This Post

It’s time for Yankees vs. Red Sox again. The Yankees could step on the throats of their rivals this weekend or let the Red Sox back in the AL East race.

What do you think will happen? Vote in the poll over to the right.

Me? I think the Yankees will take two of three and emerge with a seven-game lead in the loss column with 38 games to go. They’d be close to untouchable at that point.

I predict John Henry’s 30 year old wife will file for divorce after Sunday nite, and elope with ARod on Monday.

Yankees will sweep they’re NOT Toronto!!

    Jeter vs. Rollins?

ps… The Yanks will probably take 2 of 3.

  5. Tom from Worcester (MA) August 21st, 2009 at 9:10 am

Just keep winning series – that’s all they should be worried about at this point. All they have to do is win 3 out of every five games for the remainder of the season to go 24-17 and finish with 100 wins. If they do that, they will be nearly impossible to catch.

  6. Mr. Subtle August 21st, 2009 at 9:11 am

I hope you are right Pete. Yanks playing flat right now, Sox look invigorated.

I also think the Sox will throw at key players this weekend. Wish we had an enforcer on the team a la Darryl Strawberry.

Either way, it will be an ugly weekend.

  7. Shari August 21st, 2009 at 9:11 am

Its making me slightly nervous that Boston is all of a sudden playing well again but we’ll see if they are for real when they play the Yanx this weekend.

  8. C August 21st, 2009 at 9:14 am

    2 out of 3.

    Let’s go Yanks!

  9. Wanderer August 21st, 2009 at 9:15 am

You have to like the pitching match ups for the Yankees. Beckett v Sabathia is the tough one, but I predict 2-3. The Red Sox sweeping would be surprising and very worrying.

  10. Shame Spencer August 21st, 2009 at 9:15 am

mr. subtle – def agree about an ugly weekend. the sox always go after our hitters and im pretty sure alex and jeter should be especially careful around the plate. the only difference is now that girardi doesnt have a problem drilling ortiz inside. i always felt torre let the sox get away with murder but at least we know there is a little more spunky-ness in our team this year.

  11. SJ44 August 21st, 2009 at 9:15 am

How are the Yankees playing “flat”? They just finished 5-2 on a West Coast swing and are 14-3 in their last 17 games.

If that’s “flat”, I hope they play that “flat” the rest of the year.

  12. The Phranchise August 21st, 2009 at 9:16 am

Going against Penny and Tazawa Yankees just need to take advantage of opportunities. In the Oakland series they let some guys off the hook. As long as they don’t get themselves out versus both of them, they will score some runs. Then it’s up to Andy and AJ to put up quality starts. The big matchup is Beckett vs. CC. CC has had two very good starts against the Sox. He’s doing his usual getting stronger in the second half. Beckett off of getting crushed in his last start and Yankees have certainly seen him enough. 2 out of 3 would be a result and set the Sox back. A 3 game sweep against the Jays is not that impressive the way it happened, but their offense did put up some runs. So Yankees job to knock them back off the track again.

  13. Vince August 21st, 2009 at 9:16 am

It must be all that boring in Mass. when Socks fans have to resort to being goofs in NYC.

I would think that is the team’s goal and it’s what they should be attempting to do from here on out.

  15. The Phranchise August 21st, 2009 at 9:17 am

It’s the Yankees job as Pete said to crush any hope they have left of taking the AL East. Then let them go back and forth with series against the Rays while Texas plays the weaker teams out West and takes advantage.

question for the group…What’s the best bar in NYC to watch the yanks game tonight (for a yankees fan)?

oh…2 out of 3 would be fantastic…but even 1 out of 3 is ok this weekend.

They will throw at yanks tonight because andy won’t go throw at them.

  19. Johnny D. August 21st, 2009 at 9:20 am

No faith in our ace? I’ll go out on a limb and say we’ll sweep again.

  21. Rick August 21st, 2009 at 9:24 am

The Yankees are playing at the Green Toilet Bowl with swagger they didn’t have a few months ago. Boston is playing like a team in desperation with hopes that the Rangers or Rays can somehow fall out of the Wild Card race as they play one another at Tropicana Field this weekend.
There’s far bigger implications for Boston and the Yankees have a chance to do serious damage to their hopes.

  22. Yankee Trader August 21st, 2009 at 9:26 am

Tony Mass. giving the Yankees some credit. With a little RS bias thrown in.

Read the article. In regards to not trading for Cliff Lee and Ben Francisco, Phils stole them from Cleveland, and Shapiro could have gotten better talent from us, which wouldn’t have impacted our minor league growth in the least.
Not sure if Cashman was allowed the opportunity to better the Phillies offer, or if Shapiro just wanted him traded to the NL.

Also, you probably all know this, but the deal was settled for Chad Gaudin by sending 100K to the Padres. What a deal that will turn out to be.

  23. CountryClub August 21st, 2009 at 9:29 am

The poll is flawed because losing 2 of 3 on the road would not be “time for concern”. They would still have a 5 game lead in the loss column.

Getting swept on the other hand….

  24. ron August 21st, 2009 at 9:31 am

Pitching matchups favor the Yanks, so I’ll say they take 2 of 3. But these series rarely go the way you think they will. Red sox need to keep winning to keep Texas and Tampa from passing them. They’re hitting again as well. Yanks need to prove to themselves they can win in Fenway before the playoffs, just as they must win in Anaheim when they go there in September. Always things to worry about if you’re a Yankee fan. AROD is not hitting or moving well, Melky is slumping, ( Hurry back Gardner ), and Aceves and Joba have recently gone into the tank. Should be a very interesting 3 games.

I’d be happy with 2 out of 3. The thing to remember is that the Yankees will still be on top even if they are swept. Meanwhile the Red Sox are a good distance behind right now, they were swept the last series so they will be playing a little more up tight.

If the Yankees sweep it will put a big time hurting on the Red Sox. They went into a tailspin the after the last series, if that happens again they are toast.

  28. Woj August 21st, 2009 at 9:42 am

Guess what Yankee reliever has the same amount of wins as the next two sox starters?

Thats right Its Mr. Aceves with eight wins

Arod jeter will be hit a lot,the heathens will as usual try and provoke a bench clearing fight.

~Papelbon will break down and cry on the mound.Francona escorts him off the field, while allowing Papelbon’s head on his shoulder, because he blows a save, and is checked into a mental hospital.

~Ortiz strikes out all weekend, and takes a bat to Yuk,in the dug out, when Yuk points this out, after screaming he can’t do it with out his supplements.

~Beckett is beaten 20-0 and screams out loud on the mound, why won’t the Yankees go away! Does an interview requesting to be traded out of AL East

Brad Penny beckens Francona, says he’s having an anxiety attack, wants to be removed from the game NOW,he needs his mommy.

Derek Jeter Mr Classy,is laughing so hard,he’s almost not able to complete the game.

Arod,Melky,Cano,Tex,Swisher, are laughing so hard the ump delays the game.

    Mo,CC,Andy,Joba,both Phil’s,and AJ,look in amazement.

John Henry announces he wants to Sell the team on camera,AJ pies him!

  33. ANSKY August 21st, 2009 at 9:48 am

FRIDAY: Pettitte vs Penny. I think Pettitte wins because Penny’s further from his prime than Pettitte is. Pettitte can still rise up with a clutch performance once in a while (which he used to be great at) even though he can come up with a 5-runs-in-5-innings game about as often. I think his mindset will be vintage Pettitte going in a Boston game. That’s just who he is, and that’s half the battle. I just hope his arm can produce the results.

SATURDAY: I’m sure Tazawa has a better upside than Kei Igawa. He’s only what … 22? But at the same time, he’s no Joba, ho Phil who are about the same age. If his first appearance in that epic 15-inning game is any indication of the stuff he has at this point in his career, Tazawa will get absolutely pounded on Saturday. Doesn’t matter who’s pitching for NY … NY wins over Tazawa. Unless Girardi throws Kei Igawa himself out there, in which case we’d be screwed worse than Boston.

SUNDAY: CC is hitting his groove lately. I think who’s pitching for Boston that day is going to lose. Even if it is Beckett. If Beckett gives up 2 runs … das it. He really has to give up 1 run or less, and hope.

    Yankees take 2.

  36. Blackaccord August 21st, 2009 at 9:50 am

Sox take 2 out of 3.. I give some respect to them and their offense is slowly starting to show signs.. Martinez, Drew and Bay are hitting for power while Ellsbury, youkilis and pedroia are always pesky with their at bats.. Also they are playing at home which always seems to propel them.. Yanks will have one of those weekends where things dont go well for them..

  37. ditmars1929 August 21st, 2009 at 9:51 am

Based on pitching match ups, I’d say Yankees take two of three. Add in a little emotion and gut feel, and I say Yankees sweep.

Out, if you’re looking for a good bar to watch, we’ve got a million of them. You have to narrow it down a bit. Which neighborhood?

  38. MGUMPHER August 21st, 2009 at 9:52 am

Maybe CC can teach all the pitchers his “signature” move… the brow wipe.

  39. Shame Spencer August 21st, 2009 at 9:55 am

the only reason the sox might take the series is because we’ll be playin in fenway. i still dont think theres a chance we’re getting swept but winning the first game would be really helpful. the second game seems like our best shot at a W. if pettite’s cutter works tonight the way it has for the past couple starts, i think he will really handcuff the sox offense.

  40. Gary from Chevy Chase August 21st, 2009 at 9:57 am

I’ll be satisfied with one win, happy with 2, and overjoyed with 3.

  41. CB August 21st, 2009 at 9:57 am

That Tony Massarrotti was one of the first articles I’ve seen that acknowledges how development of young players has been a critical part of the yankees success this year and that the Sox in fact don’t have a huge advantage in developing their own players.

    This was a great quote:

“Take a good look at the first-place Yankees this weekend. From Robinson Cano to Phil Hughes to Joba Chamberlain to Melky Cabrera, they have the kind of home-grown talent that makes them far more competitive with the Red Sox in that area than most anyone ever acknowledges.”

That’s exactly right – it’s the plain fact not too many people have acknowledged.

And when Massarroti asked Cashman about it, Cashman of course deflects the whole thing and doesn’t take any credit:

“Being honest with you, I [Cashman] just can’t get bogged down with that and concerned with that, because if something special is going to happen, you have to have a little bit of everything,’’ general manager Brian Cashman said when asked if the Yankees get enough credit for their player development. “I just don’t pay attention to it.”

Later on Cashman does however say that he wants to make sure that people know how good a job Girardi has done this year.

And this while the Red Sox front office is still leaking rumors about how they were on the fictional verge of trading for Felix Hernandez or Halladay because they were gractiously offering five prospects!!!! from their vaunted system.

The yankees have built a formidable organization and done so relatively quietly. And that seems to be the way they’ve wanted it.

I think that unless the Yankee bats awaken, taking one game will be the best they will do this weekend. You need runs at Fenway.

LOL Brandon Tierney is another one who is majorly scared of the Sox in the playoffs. Look, I am too – but this is now the 2nd mediot in the last 24 hours who thinks the Yankees should be quaking in their boots. It’s one thing for me as a fan to be nervous, another for professionals to be.

Steve, I’m just glad AJ got rid of the nipple rings…ick, lol.

  49. CB August 21st, 2009 at 10:10 am

    Maine,

Agreed. I’ve been pointing this out all year because it’s so obvious and just takes some counting but the yankees all season have had way more internally developed players on their 25 man roster than the Sox or the Rays – the two organizations that are routinely discussed as the top player development organizations in the game.

At one point in time 13 of the 25 player on the yankees were homegrown and 8 of the 12 pitchers.

That’s phenomenal because it’s not like they were calling up scrubs – those were all guys who really got them through the season.

  50. Tunnel Man August 21st, 2009 at 10:10 am

And this while the Red Sox front office is still leaking rumors about how they were on the fictional verge of trading for Felix Hernandez or Halladay because they were gractiously offering five prospects!!!! from their vaunted system.

  51. betsy August 21st, 2009 at 10:11 am

I have no idea how the Yankees will do this weekend…..probably 1 game, I think. The Sox are very hot offensively, Bay is back and has been a Yankee killer, Ortiz is hot again…The Yankees are struggling offensively right now and they will not be able to get away with scoring 2 runs a game in this park.

  52. Andrew August 21st, 2009 at 10:12 am

I don’t understand why people have such a hard time grasping that it is other teams that are becoming increasingly afraid of playing the Yankees, be it now in the regular season, or later in the playoffs. This big psychological fear that the Yankees and their fans should have, that lots of people frequently tout, is nonsense and does nothing to hide the facts: the Yankees have played to the best record in baseball for a long stretch of the season now. They are not a flash in the pan that is going to fold up because they are intimidated by Boston or Los Angeles or whoever else they have to face. They are a great team, and only time will tell how the story will end this year, but the team is not mentally intimidated or outclassed by anyone in the league.

  63. Stuckey August 21st, 2009 at 10:21 am

If this season has taught up anything is that while it’s always good to pick up games on your rival, it’s stull just 3 games.

Yankees were 0-8 going into the last series and it didn’t mean anything and they now enjoy a comfortbale lead.

Red Sox got swept a couple of weeks ago, recovered to win 7-3 and are exactly where they were the night that series ended.

The ONLY result that might have a significant result is a Yankee sweep.

ANY other result will just be some change in math. It won’t “say” anything about the rest of the season.

There should be a fourth category: Get swept, no cause for concern because the Yankees are ultimately invincible.

    :)

Actually if we get swept, I still wouldn’t be worried. Aggravated that I’d have to hear it from Sux fans but not worried.

But seriously folks, I don’t think a Sux sweep is in our immediate future.

That said – I think the biggest winner this weekend is going to be the rain.

    :(

  72. Doreen August 21st, 2009 at 10:27 am

I voted lose two. But I would have preferred Win One, but no cause for concern. Because that’s how I’d view it. I tend to be very conservative and baseball is unpredictable. But if they win one at Fenway, losing only one game in the standings, I don’t think that’s terrible. The Red Sox play very, very well at Fenway and they’ve been swinging their bats of late. So I wouldn’t be shocked if they took 2 from the Yankees.

But I also wouldn’t be shocked if the Yankees took 2.

As long as the Yankees do not get swept in this 3-game series, I see no cause for concern.

  73. Mike August 21st, 2009 at 10:27 am

I think they will sweep. I’m not just saying that because we swept them last time, but I just can’t imagine the Yankees not lighting up Penny or Tazawa, and CC has just been on fire in August, I can’t imagine him losing. But Baseball is an unpredictable game so anything is possible

  74. Steve August 21st, 2009 at 10:27 am

Pitching matchups certainly favor NY .C.C. a career 32-9 in August .Where’s my broom ?

  75. Sweet Lou August 21st, 2009 at 10:29 am

I voted for two out of three. With these pitching matchups the Yankees should expect to take two.

But the wording of the answers is wrong. One out of three isn’t “cause for concern”, it’s “good enough.” If the Red Sox don’t sweep this series they can start thinking about the Wild Card full time come Monday.

  76. rl1856 August 21st, 2009 at 10:29 am

2 of 3….though you can make a good case for a sweep. I think Beckett may defeat CC, score of 1-0 or 2-1; both pitchers going into the 8th inning on national TV.

  78. MaineYankee August 21st, 2009 at 10:32 am

Listening to RS fans around here the focus is already on just the WC.

  79. CB August 21st, 2009 at 10:32 am

Going into this series Yankee fans should be very clear – the team only needs to win 1 game. That’s it.

They win at least one game and the Sox chances for winning the division have plummeted again.

And the Sox really need to win all 3 – not primarily because it would get them back into the divisional race but because they are neck and neck with the Rangers for the WC and at this point every game is close to a must win game for the Sox.

But for the yankees – 1 game. That’s it. They win one and they’ve achieved their strategic needs in this series.

    Trisha,

Thanks again!! What is the weather forcast up there for this weekend?

  84. Doreen August 21st, 2009 at 10:38 am

    CB -

That’s exactly how I see it.

It would be nice to get the “1″ out of the way tonight, though. :)

Both the Sox and the Rangers need to look out for the Rays.

    —————————————————

With their pitching struggles this year it’s exposing the weakness which is a lack of offense.

  86. Wave Your Hat August 21st, 2009 at 10:40 am

We only need to win 1, agreed, but with the pitching matchups I would be disappointed not to win 2.

  87. trisha - OPPC lifetime member and true believer in the Ortiz karma effect August 21st, 2009 at 10:41 am

Guess the answer to that is “no”. :(

I have a new feature I’m going to introduce. I got a pack of cards for Christmas called “Yankee Stadium Legacy 1923-2008″. It appears there is a card for everyone who played for the Yankees in that time. I think I will post one a day and we can all learn about our Yankees together. I will probably pick a time of day and do it at the same time so that anyone who wants to can just go to that time of day. I will start tomorrow. I don’t know if they are in order by year, alpha, or something else but I think it would probably be better to go early to present. I’ll do my best to get them in order that way. If we still had bolding I would have just bolded the name. But I guess putting it in all caps will have to do.

  88. GGBG August 21st, 2009 at 10:42 am

The first two game pitching matchups certainly favor us.

Beckett vs. CC on Sunday will be the big time game. We really haven’t hit Beckett at all this year even though we did win the game he started last time out (the 1-0 15 inning game)

I’d be ok with losing that game if we lost it 7-6 and tagged 5 or so runs on Beckett. I’d like to see us get it into his head that we can hit him. Right now, he probably thinks we can’t (and he’s right….we haven’t)

  89. beedogs August 21st, 2009 at 10:42 am

2 out of 3 with a sweep not out of the question.

  90. hugh August 21st, 2009 at 10:43 am

    Vey a great laugh.
Yankees have a winning road record, will win the series.

  91. Pel August 21st, 2009 at 10:44 am

    >What is the weather forcast up there for this weekend?

Mostly Yankees with a chance of WIN.

  92. Lee23 August 21st, 2009 at 10:44 am

I hate hate HATE Yankees/RedSux games.
I wait all season for them, feverishly so by day-of-game, and if the Sux look good, and the Yankees don’t?
I start throwing stuff around, walk away from the tv/radio and swear under my breath. A lot.
Before any of you point it out.. Yes, I do have anger issues!
    Not a secret. :)

    But this series feels… I dunno…. less pressure-ish?
What’s the worst that could happen? Monday morning the Yanks are up 3.5 games?
    I can live with it.

Will I have to listen to ignorant RS fans tell me that the Sux own the Yanks this season. Yeah.
But I don’t care, and I think it’s because, watching every inning of every game, you can tell that the YANKEES DON’T CARE ABOUT BOSTON.
They’re just going to play. And win.
    I can live with it.

Hey Fran! Just emailed you. :)

It it is disgusting here, hot and humid, chance of rain all three days. Tell you what, as much I am a fan of the Yankees, I am a bigger fan of air conditioning. No way in God’s green earth would I sit through a game in this mug. It is G-ROSS. The air is very very heavy.

  94. CB August 21st, 2009 at 10:46 am

“It would be nice to get the “1? out of the way tonight, though.”

    Doreen,

If the yankees win tonight the pressure on the Sox will increase exponentially because tomorrow they have Tazawa – a rookie from Japan with less than a year of minor league experience and 3 starts in the majors going up against AJ.

And there’s no way that the game AJ threw against them in the Bronx isn’t in their head as he’s been so tough on them in the past.

Yankees win tonight and the rest of the series is gravy for them and immense pressure on the sox.

  95. braden August 21st, 2009 at 10:46 am

I predict, the Yankees will still be division leader after this weekend,RS will still be contenders for the wild card.

    Vey man you’re funny!

  96. Patrick August 21st, 2009 at 10:48 am

I agree the Yank only need to win 1 but I want them to win at least 2 considering the pitchers we have going.

    Should be a fun series!

    CB,

Exactly right. You don’t want to get swept again. The only really “bad” result that can come out of this weekend from a Yankee perspective.

I would like to see a win tonight because it puts the pressure on the Sox the rest of the weekend. We will then get a chance to see how good this edition of the Red Sox is if they lose tonight.

Its one thing to go to Toronto and blow out a team playing out the string. Its another to have your backs against the wall against a good team and have to grind out wins.

We have yet to see that from this Sox team to date. Don’t believe me? Take a look at their road record for the season and their record since the ASB.

What I like most of all about this Yankee team is they taking losing BADLY. You listen to guys like Tex and you don’t get the sense they have any complacency in that locker room.

One game is really all they need. If they get tonight’s game though, I think they will think “sweep” and look to put a beatdown on the Red Sox.

An attitude that is very refreshing to have on a ballclub. One that has been missing here for awhile.

    Very true.

  103. MaineYankee August 21st, 2009 at 10:52 am

The Yankees have swept the RS twice in Fenway since the old guard (Jeter,Posada,Mo,Petitte).

So they know what they can do there. Not in their heads at all.

Since the AS break this team is playing with a confidence that has been missing for a while.

“One game is really all they need. If they get tonight’s game though, I think they will think “sweep” and look to put a beatdown on the Red Sox.”

    SJ,

The first game of any 3 game set is always the key. But tonight it’s an even bigger deal because of tomorrow’s pitching matchup and where the teams are with respect to making the playoffs.

Tonight is an absolute must win for the Sox.

They can’t lose this game tonight and then go into tomorrow with Tazawa squaring off against AJ. AJ has killed them far too many times.

If the yankees win tonight then on some level the Sox are going to feel that they are going to possibly lose the series and even get swept.

One of the bedrocks of that team this season is that they’ve expected to win with Beckett on the mound. But with CC going in that game they just can’t feel nearly as confident. CC throttled them that last game. But even in that first game he threw at Fenway CC largely shut down the Sox – and that was when their whole line up was hot. If it wasn’t for how awful the yankees pen was Girardi wouldn’t have left CC out there throwing on fumes and the yankees would have won that game.

Tonight is a must win for the sox.

And if the yankees do win this game it’s a huge deal for what they’ve taken from the sox and how it sets up the rest of the series.

Best case: Yankees sweep, lead 9.5 games

Worst case: Red Sox sweep, lead is 3.5 games.

In both outcomes the Yankees leave this series as the favorite to win the division.”

Totally agree with this except that the mediots will be sounding off about how the Yankees are collapsing under pressure if they get swept… yada yada yada… however if the Red Sox get swept it will just be a little stumble ;)

  107. Patrick from CT August 21st, 2009 at 10:58 am

The Yankees really only need one of these games. I voted they take two of 3 and walk away with the AL East.
If the Yankees win the first two I could see a brawl breaking out Sunday with players getting plunked.

  109. Andrew August 21st, 2009 at 11:05 am

I’m pretty confident that if the Yankees open up a lead on Penny tonight, he will plunk someone. Girardi already ripped him earlier in the season for throwing at A-Rod; I don’t expect Penny to shy away from hitting Yankees. Jeter has been red hot so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Red Sox pull the old “pitch Jeter up and in, and if we happen to hit him in the hands/wrist, ‘whoops’” play out of the playbook to try and neutralize him for the series.

  110. mg August 21st, 2009 at 11:06 am

Sox can’t afford to get anyone suspended as they’re in a tight race w/ TAM/TEX. I doubt any plunking but don’t forget this incident: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/.....id=4255169

  111. Patrick August 21st, 2009 at 11:06 am

Oh yeah you’ll answer him but not me.

    Positive my ass!

Anyways, it’d be nice to just bury the Sox this weekend. not only knock them out of the division picture but hopefully really hurt them in the wild card. SWEEP SWEEP!

  112. Stateman52 August 21st, 2009 at 11:09 am

The Yanks will win 2 out of 3. My Polish Aunt said they Yanks would split the series.

  113. LondonYank August 21st, 2009 at 11:14 am

Yanks take 2 of 3 – I think despite CC pitching well – Josh bounces back from apoor outing for the win on Sunday

  114. Luds August 21st, 2009 at 11:18 am

They’ll take 2 of 3. And if they do plunk A-Rod, We have to retaliate. I want Joba to plunk Youk.

  115. Patrick August 21st, 2009 at 11:20 am

Good for you luds, too bad Joba isn’t pitching

  116. BD 2.0 August 21st, 2009 at 11:44 am

The last thing Joba needs, if he were pitching, is to plunk Youk.

He already has a rep as a thug headhunter. If he hits Youk again, he may never shed that reputation.

He needs to just worry about pitching. He can still intimidate, but it has to be done the right way.

  117. Blog Poster August 21st, 2009 at 11:47 am

    mg –

I’ve thought this all along – putting Penny on the mound can be like sending the Hanson brothers out in the 3rd period of a blowout of the Charleston Chiefs.

Penny is a goon. Arod’s elbow is hurting. You just know he’s going to do something. Even throwing up and in a few times will be enough.

Could be interesting, too, knowing that Pettitte doesn’t retaliate in those situations.

  118. The Sports Show Live August 21st, 2009 at 12:21 pm

As much as I hate to say it, no lead is untouchable. Need I remind you what happened in Flushing a few years back. 7 with 17 left.

  119. Blueshirt Brawler August 21st, 2009 at 12:30 pm

I think the Yankees have a good chance to take two out of three up in Boston this weekend. It will all fall on the pitching because I expect the Yankees to score runs vs. Penny and Tazawa. Beckett, not so much. But if the Yankees get quality starts out of Pettitte and A.J. then they have a good chance to win tonight and tomorrow. Sunday is a crap shoot. I expect a 1-0 or 2-1 game with CC vs. Beckett. I just wonder what team will push across the run that makes the difference.

Off topic but my wife and I are headed to NYC in a week and want to take in a game at the new Stadium but don’t have tix yet. Any advice on what’s the best way to get them? I’ve heard good and bad about Stub Hub. Thanks.

  122. Uke August 21st, 2009 at 12:42 pm

Yankees could take all 3 but it will be tough to do it in their house, we do have the mental edge on them right now though, so it’s entirely possible.

  123. MG August 21st, 2009 at 1:18 pm

Unless Andy pitches poorly tonight the Yankees win at least 2 out of 3 and a sweep is very, very possible. It all depends on Andy continuing to pitch as he has since the ASB. The Saturday game should be a laydown and I get the feeling CC is going to pitch a great game on Sunday.
