The Yankees were aggressive with Josh Becket and it paid off with an 8-4 victory at Fenway Park.

Mark Teixeira is looking for October success as he settles in with the Yankees. Don’t forget, he’ll be on Letterman tonight.

Alfredo Aceves is having some issues. This notebook also has an update on Johnny Damon and Joe Girardi’s defense of his battery from Saturday.

Time to set my VCR! Oops. That will not work. Verizon guy is here right now. He’ll have to set my DVR for me – once everything is installed.

    :)

Sounds like Aceves needs to get his body in better shape to handle more than one appearance a week onto the mound.

  3. Stultus Magnus August 24th, 2009 at 10:59 am

Yeah, I hope Ace can get back on track as the playoffs near. It would be nice to see him regain his form.

Yankees swept the RS 2 weeks ago Yankee stadium.RS sux win on a win streak. After all their wins since that loss, ended up right back where they were,7.5 games behind!

LOL at this caller who claims, because he’s got a HD tv, he could definitely tell that AJ said “why WOULD you call that pitch” instead of “why DID I throw that pitch”. Evan and Joe got on him for not being a professional lip reader, lol

That’s pretty concerning about Aceves……and Joe doesn’t think anything is wrong with him? Hmm…Maybe HE needs to get on the same page with his pitcher. This guy should not be a reliever –

  6. Andrew August 24th, 2009 at 11:03 am

Aceves’ body has been used to starting for his entire career at this point. I don’t understand how he was supposed to immediately be 100% comfortable with being a reliever that is relied on greatly throughout a full season when he had been expecting to be starting games all year long.

  7. betsy August 24th, 2009 at 11:05 am

Maine Yankee, I’m sorry I clicked on the link you posted. I didn’t think that was anything to take note of as I think Shaughnessy was very harsh. Nuff said…….

  8. betsy August 24th, 2009 at 11:11 am

If AJ and Jorge were standing next to each other not talking, it could simply mean that they were just standing there not talking, not that they are angry with each other. People don’t always have something to say to people. Sometimes my family thinks I am miserable because I don’t smile all the time……but that is my nature. I don’t frown, I don’t smile……unless I am happy or unhappy. A non-smile doesn’t mean I am unhappy….but some folks read it as such. Body language can be misinterpreted…

Intresting comment made by Dan Shaughnessy.

“Michael Bowden’s stock is dropping. He was put in a tough position Friday night, but that wasn’t much of a showcase. It’s way too early to make any kind of call on young Bowden, but the Sox have demonstrated a tendency to overvalue some of their pitching prospects.”

It seems the media-the Boston Media-is becoming wise to the Red Sox prospect hyping ways.

  11. Andrew August 24th, 2009 at 11:17 am

Unbelievable that the Mets have to deal with another possible injury. Change the name of the stadium and light the seats that Madoff owned on fire. Then maybe it will all stop.

  12. Stultus Magnus August 24th, 2009 at 11:25 am

The Mets should take down that ad on the scoreboard for the Hospital for Special Surgery…

  13. you gotta have faith (aceves, you da man!) August 24th, 2009 at 11:28 am

im still laughing at the unassisted triple play… lmaooo

  14. jpb1973 August 24th, 2009 at 11:30 am

I just saw on the MLB Network crawl, that Reds’ pitcher Aaron Harang will miss the rest of the season after having an emergency appedenctomy. Thats too bad for him…I hope he recovers quickly. Nonetheless, maybe its a good thing that we didn’t get him at the trading deadline. It looks like we will be able to make it through the rest of the season OK with Sergio Mitre, Chad Gauguin and some September callups.

  15. rover August 24th, 2009 at 11:30 am

I would think that it is often in the offense best interest to forbid a strike throwing fireballer to establish his fastball as long as is possible. Good job by a veteran team playing like veterans. They took JB right out of his game plan. Easy as that sounds, im certain it was not.

  16. betsy August 24th, 2009 at 11:31 am

Oh, I love this……they are talking Golden Girls on WFAN because Thomas Jones of the Jets is a fan…..Perfect, lol

Actually the Red Sox were 6-1/2 games back after the sweep at NYS. They lost another game in the standings since then.

  18. betsy August 24th, 2009 at 11:32 am

    SJ, what do you mean?

  19. Andrew August 24th, 2009 at 11:36 am

I think that is a fake SJ

  20. Vince August 24th, 2009 at 11:37 am

It seems the media-the Boston Media-is becoming wise to the Red Sox prospect hyping ways.

    ““““““““““`
Shaughnessy needs only to ask Peter Gammons why Socks prospects are overhyped. He’s the biggest culprit.

  21. jennifer August 24th, 2009 at 11:47 am

I really don’t understand why Pete can’t get that fool banned. Is he constantly changing his ip address? He must be one of those people that seeks negative attention. He likes people to dislike him. Otherwise why else would he constantly come here.

  22. Mark-Cant Touch This August 24th, 2009 at 11:47 am

Mets line up is pathetic tonight.

  23. bodhisattva - Destiny Wears Pinstripes August 24th, 2009 at 11:49 am

The media behaving as if they’ve awakened from a deep sleep to discover Boston over hyping its prospects is rich.

They – and the NY media who continues to talk up “Boston’s strong minor league system,” that is always “ahead of the Yankees,” without ever actually naming a single prospect – don’t do any homework at all, but are led through the nose and willing to say anything that elevates the Red Sox and disparages the Yankees.

We’ve been screaming about their over rated farm system – and our utterly under the radar system – for 3 years on another site.

So what’s now being “discovered” is actually old hat to some of us.

It’s a little telling when I, who don’t even root for Boston, have a much deeper knowledge of their farm system than their own beat reporters and columnists, who apparently are too lazy to bother themselves about such matters, but willing to blow Theo’s horn as a great talent evaluator without ever doing any investigating.

…and where have you gone, Lars Anderson…?

  24. jennifer August 24th, 2009 at 11:50 am

“I just hope I’m funny,” Teixeira said. “Otherwise the guys are going to give me a lot of grief about it.”

Oh, I see imposter SJ44 is back. What a loser.

  26. Alan August 24th, 2009 at 11:54 am

Time is running out for Boston’s Wild Card hopes. Why was Francona reluctant to use his bullpen when the game was still within reach ?
The Sux now have an overly rested bullpen for their series with the White Sox.
With 39 games left, Francona has very little wiggle room with ANY team the rest of the way.
Girardi was smart in removing C.C. at the right time and getting work for Hughes and Mo.
Sometime in the Texas series, Girardi needs to see if Bruney can be corrected or lose his chance on the playoff roster.

  27. SJ44 August 24th, 2009 at 11:56 am

Looks like the imposter is back.

This is the only post of mine in this thread.

  28. bodhisattva - Destiny Wears Pinstripes August 24th, 2009 at 11:57 am

I don’t think the Yankees privately are even considering Bruney as a high leverage option in the BP.

When the rosters expand, we’ll see Melancon come back up.

Since Girardi tends to be ultra conservative, we’ll need to open up a double-digit lead before he’ll throw the kid high leverage work.

What is our magic No? 32?

  29. haiku-man August 24th, 2009 at 11:58 am

White Sox lead the AL in errors, tied for last with a .980 fielding percentage.

Alexi Ramirez SS leads the team with 16 erros.

RS should do well against Contreas ,because he is the White Sox leader in losses 11.

So today should be an easy win,if RS aren’t too diminished from Sunday’s butt kicking.

I’m surprised at all of the lunkhead Red Sox fans and their silence? What happened to the 8-0 start? Back to golf!

    they have no ammunition.

the division is over & they are fighting for the wc.

if they get in you will hear them again.

smacking the doo out of them will do this.

a rs fan at work literally ran from me after the first win of the series as i was chasing him laughing.

Aceves needs longer stretches of time to recharge and as someone suggested earlier Melancon will be called up when rosters expand.

Wow Verizon internet is quite fast. Maybe now I will be able to keep up with the posts during games and even read updates. (I still don’t get how you do all of it.) How do you remember where you left off to go back and read the rest of the stuff. Ah! Do a search on your name? Brilliant.

I don’t even go to the games to watch baseball. I like to go to sing songs and rejoice. I think I’m a good singer. How about you guys? I hope they start playing Barry Manilow because he is a terrific. I think I sing Barry Manilow songs really well. My mom tells me that too. My all time favorite is all out of love by air supply. God that songs just give me goosebumps..i’m all out of love…i’m so lost without you..something for so long…I think they should play baseball for 5 innings and have everyone sing for the rest of the time. That would be great. Please forward this message to John Henry.
