Guillen: “I’m embarrassed”

Kevin Devaney Jr.
August
29

This is Josh again. I’ll have a postgame wrap later, but here’s what Ozzie Guillen said after watching Sergio Mitre and Chad Gaudin one-hit his fading club:

“I’m embarrassed. I think that everyone in that locker room should be embarrassed. You have to start second-guessing yourself when you go out and have more errors than hits in a game. We have veteran players and I have respect for them and appreciate what they have done for me in the past, but this is Major League Baseball. We’re better than this. Right now it feels like we’re stealing money from Jerry (Reinsdorf). I’m stealing money from Jerry. The mountains only get higher every night.”

“I feel like I am the one that should be blamed. And I know that I am the one’s who’s going to get the blame, but you have to give me some ammunition. Give me something that I can use to defend you. Right now that’s not happening.”

On Jose Contreras: “Jose threw another bad game. It feels like we have been watching the same movie with him for three months now. And I love Jose, but he is pitching bad. But we had no choice other than to go to him today. I keep giving him chances and giving him the ball every fifth day, but he is not pitching well.”

jeez…someone put Ozzie on suicide watch!

    Ozzie needs a hug

Boy, the truth hurts. Glad I’m not a White Sox fan.

Guillen should be embarrassed. Not because of how the team is playing, but, because of putting crap like that out to the media. Perhaps he should rake the team over the clubhouse instead….or, at least before shooting his mouth off to the media. I notice that he’s not embarrassed to keep cashing stolen checks twice a month.

  7. Rebecca--Optimist Prime--Montero Fanaticus Primus

    My g-d Ozzie is entertaining.

That said, I’d take Swisher over Ozzie any day.

  8. Nick in SF in Larkspur

Ozzie is not down with OPPC.

Perhaps he should rake the team over ***coals in*** the clubhouse instead

Sorry Joe, no way Jeter was bunting for a hit.

Kenny Williams with tire marks on his back?

It never looks good to spend the boss’ $100 mil in late late season pickups and then tank it anyway.

Meltdown Ozzie is more amusing than Embarrassed Ozzie.

Like I said in the game post, the guy is entertaining if you are not a White Sox fan, but you can’t respect what he says when he throws his team under the bus in public. Why Kenny Williams hasn’t fired this clown is beyond me.

  15. Mike

The Chi Sox should have way more wins with all the talent they have.

An offense of Posednik, Dye, Thome, Konerko, Quinten, Rios, AJ, Ramirez

A rotation with Burhlee, Danks, Floyd

A pen with Jenks-Thorton-Dotel in the late innings

  16. RhapsodyInBlue

    Ozzie, get to the point.

  17. Ramon

He is like Hank Steinbrenner… fun and entertaining for the public to make fun of, embarrassing if he is the spokesperson for your team.

I don’t think he’s referring to players. Those he has. He’s talking about performances.

Williams isn’t blameless, either. When you ship out of your best your left handed arms plus others for a “maybe” contract worth over 30 mil and another 55 mil for an outfielder that you don’t need, you’d better have been salting away those uncashed paychecks, because rain is on the way. Chris Richards will end up being what Danks and Floyd have been. Chicago needs Richards this year more than they need a gamble like Peavy.

I read it that way at first but he’s ripping the team not the GM. The rest of the quote…

“Give me something that I can use to defend you. Right now that’s not happening.”

  21. Laura

“The Chi Sox should have way more wins with all the talent they have.”

You would think. However, they are a very bad defensive team. Hawk said during the WGN broadcast that they lead the majors in errors. My friends who are White Sox fans tell me that they are also horrible with RISP.

  22. JK

Milton Bradley has killed the Mets

  23. Yankee Trader

    “I’m stealing money from Jerry.{Reinsdorf}”

Ozzie don’t you know that comment will likely get you fired and imprisoned for embezzelment!!!!!

Bruney, Mitre, Gaudin come thru unexpectedly- is this an aberration, or are they trying harder to make the post season roster and get a full share of the WS winnings?????

  24. GreenBeret7

Sorry, my error. That’s Clayton Richard.

  25. Laura

“Chicago needs Richards this year more than they need a gamble like Peavy.”

Kenny is one of those guys that falls in love with a player and will get him regardless of whether it makes sense or not. Remember last year when he got Griffey, Jr? Why? Because he’s had a man crush on him for years and the opportunity presented itself. It ended up being a waste of both of their time. It’s the same with Peavy. He wanted him and got him, even though Peavy really didn’t want to come to the AL. How do you think that’s going to work out?

Mark my words – the Peavy and Rios deals are both going to come back and bite Williams on his rear end.

  26. Laura

“Milton Bradley has killed the Mets”

That’s not going to stop the Cubs fans from booing him. He’s hitting well against a team playing a AAA lineup. That’s going to go over well. :)

  27. Kiko Jones

Hey, at least Ozzie doesn’t sugar coat it. It’s refreshing to hear a mgr be honest and not give the usual “Well, we gave it 110% but it wasn’t in the cards for us” response or some variation thereof.

It’s going to be an ugly winter in Chicago this year. On both sides of town.

I’m sure that will play well with his vets like Thome, Konerko, Posadnek, Dye and Pierszyski as well as his young rookies. BS like this has a Billy Martin shelf life….about two years.

  30. haiku-man

His vets gave him nada, nothing, zero, and allowed the ES to own them!

You should hear how La Russa talks when the Cards slump and loses games,he pouts and calls out players.Maybe it’s a midwest thing.

  31. Shari

Ozzie was very articulate and on point with his criticisms here. Its a shame what’s happened to BOTH baseball teams in Chi-Town this year. I was really holding hope for the Cubbies. If the Yanx can’t pull it off, I hope for the Cubs. Its a real shame. But that’s baseball.

So far it’s between the Giants and the Yankees that have interest in Penny,as per mlbtraderumors.Jon Heyman of SI,opines the NL is a better fit for him.

  34. Johnny D.

Being 1-hit by these two guys is VERY embarrassing.

  35. Awais

    this guy is a jerk

Ok, so I have a question for the blog posters here…

If you had to pick, considering all there were absolutely awful today, which is the aspect of the game the White Sox played THE WORST Saturday?
    A) Pitching (10 runs allowed!)
    B) Hitting (1 — ONE — hit in 9 innings, against basically our two worst pitchers)
    C) Defense (3 errors)

Every time I think I have my answer, I look at the other two and realize I’m back to where I started ;)
