Mariners 2, Angels 1.
Yankees lead Los Angeles by 5.5 games in the race that really matters at this point, that for home-field advantage in the playoffs.
Doug Fister pitched well into the eighth inning for Seattle.
Pete, what the heck are you doing up so early in the morning or late at night?
I’m deathly afraid of the Angels… that fear erodes by the day, though, with the Yankees steamrolling the way they are.
September 21st-23rd will be interesting!
I thought the importance of having HFA was a figment of my imagination.
Nice to know that others: Pete, the Yankees, the teams that want to play spoiler for the Angels, are thinking along the same lines.
K. Looking at coolstandings.com, it seems as if the Rangers are only 4 games back of Boston in TAILC (the all important loss column) and the Rays are 6 games back in the TAILC.
It might be too late for the Rays, but it certainly isn’t for the Rangers. Especially if the Rays decide to show up for the rest of the series.
(also, magic # for the Yankees is 25 with 30 left to play)
Where is everybody?
Two interesting things from mlbtr. First, Penny would consider coming back to the AL East. Please do! “Brad Penny said he’d be willing to return to the AL East in the future, according to CBSSports.com’s Danny Knobler. “I think if I make my pitches against anyone, I’ll do fine…Sometimes you don’t get breaks. I was making some bad pitches, and leaving some balls up. In the AL East, you can’t really do that,” said Penny.”
The victim of Cash’s little waiver wire game is career minor leager Jeff Bailey. Seems like they used his spot for a callup. Hmm.
Don’t have tickets for the Anaheim series yet …. may have to treat myself.
They have one more series in Boston, right? Should be interesting.
When I read the title of the previous post, I thought it was about how the Yanks won despite AJ’s performance.
Has AJ ever pitched an entire season w/o a stint on the DL?
Where is everybody?
–
What time zone are you in? Its 3 AM EST and I feel like I should go to bed. Something … about work tomorrow…
CK in LA….All three games are sold out…..The Wednesday afternoon game may be your best bet…..There are plenty of tix by way of stub hub…….m is in Hawaii I do believe
I think this is the first year in a long time that I’m not afraid of the Angels. I still look back at that sweep against us as the Yankees beating themselves and handing it to the Angels as opposed to the Angels beating us.
Yes she is.
CK, who has 3 more in Boston? If you’re thinking Yankees, that’s a negative. Last HTH is in the Bronx.
Angles for a make up game in NY, but the Yankees have to travel to Seattle/Anaheim again.
My unscientific survey says “Angles’ is your favorite typo, m. Freudian slip? Deliberate dis?
I will be dining on kimchee ramen within moments. What could be better after a long drive down from the mountains with Burners heading the other way?
It’s nice that we won and everything, but AJ has been awful for a month now.
AJ is a head case. Came to NY to pitch in important games (and for the $).
The games now bore him. Come October he will return to (good) form.
Actually, I like Bucket better.
Kimchee? gross.
Shio ramen is the way to go. Now, I’m hungry.
No, it was delicious. The Japanese classic with the appropriated Korean spice hit the spot and will see me through on the rest of my drive home.
AJ should try some. Or just go for some yukejang, he needs a lot of help.
Nick, just looks like he (AJ) can’t hit any spots. I saw way too many balls sitting in the middle of the plate.
As far as the LAA the Yanks who are playing well need to show that they can beat them in the series coming up. Kazmir will pitch against us in that series and we need to see that the Yanks have now been able to figure him out.
Kazmir isn’t the same guy he was a couple of years ago. Far from it.
The Yanks can beat the Angels. The Yanks just played a terrible series in LA before the ASB the same way they played a terrible series against the ChiSox a few weeks back.
The Yanks gave those games away. I don’t expect that to happen the next time around.
This team can beat anyone.
The reason a lot of teams passed on Kazmir was his reported drop in velocity and control. His consistent injury history and also his violent delivery. He’s high risk high reward altho it’s probably leaning way towards risk at this point.
fear not, PJ
for these r not ur mother’s angels, stumbling and bumbling vs the likes of the al west. this is not ur mother’s vlad.
and these r not ur mom’s yanks.
it is time to let destiny unfold. for this may indeed be our year.
I don’t think the Rays are going anywhere this post season, except to the golf courses. While Kazmir has not been great, they traded him now rather than in the off season which acknowledged that they knew they weren’t going to beat out Boston for the WC.
Texas has an outside shot, but even that is unlikely unless Boston falters. Boston meanwhile looks a bit desperate in using Papelbum to have a 6 out save. Their rotation is a patchwork quilt as is a number of position spots.
Kazmir should become a closer. Then he doesn’t have to worry about diddling around the edges without a third or fourth pitch. He looks like and pitches like Billy Wagner. Nothing wrong with that.
First time in here folks, you got a great thing going. Last night my buddy calls me and says that Burnett is Kevin Browne reincarnated. And I tell him he is almost spot on. However, Browne never appeared to give up which sadly AJ seems to do on occasion. Or at the very least he sulks to a point where he centers up his pitches. Someone needs to take Burnett to the woodshed and advise him to get his stuff together. He is the only dim spot at this point. Thought I would throw this on the fire for you learned Yankee lovers.
I made the same observation on the previous thread.Angels are the games to watch.Yankees are playing for home field.
Sea held them to 1 run.
Until the Yankees beat the Red Sox and or Angels in October, they have no postseason credibility.
September 14. Yankees v Angels at Yankee Stadium.
BE THERE!!!
A.J. Burnett needs to regain his form from earlier in the season otherwise relinquish his role as the pie thrower in any future walkoff games.
-What was so great about last night’s game, was the grit the Yankees fought back with, when behind. This will come in handy
in all post season.AJ has some issues, and so glad he didn’t affect the team.
-The fact that AJ hasn’t won a game in a month, and yet the Yankees are still in first place.
i’d hate to call that the only one that matters.
we all know they’re making the post season, since if we weren’t the division leaders, we’d be like 10 or so up in the wild card race.
but if we only get the wild card, home field is no more…
we’re 6.5 up in the AL East
we’re 5.5 up for Home-Field
i’m still watching both equally.
