Pete,
Let the pros decide on Damon. When he comes up lame next year you will forget that you ever wrote it.

Damon is a tough call...I don't think it's a coincidence that it's a contract drive year for him and that he came into camp in great shape and motivated. That plus the new stadium is a perfect storm. But his defense, esp. tracking balls, is barely passable, so he'd better maintain his offensive output. But he's quirky, likeable, good interview, etc. and the fans like him, so I think a 2-year deal is passable. Matsui should not be resigned though he has been a delight unless he miraculously demonstrates the ability to take the field again in the off-season after surgery. Crawford is the guy to keep an eye on - Rays have a $10MM option for 2010 they have to exercise after this year (actually could be $11.5MM salary in 2010 with accelerators) with a $1.5MM buyout. He just turned 28 and his exceptional defense, speed and solid OPS makes him likely a $13-15MM player in the open market. Doubtful the Rays would not pick up the option, but they might do so then move him as they have his replacement ready in Desmond Jennings. Hard to imagine they would trade him to the Yanks though...

Boston will have to sign Bay. They have no OF prospects on the horizon.
Bay is too streaky, a less than average outfielder, and on the downside of his career.

tex-you might have the 2010 OF accurate. by my count, those players include 3 cf's, 3 lf's and 3 rf's. so yeah, i guess between them all, they have the OF covered.

the outfield will be fine next year. Jackson, Gardner, Melky, Damon, Swish. There is speed there. Athletic OF is overrated. And i would take the bat of Damon and Swish over faster corners with less power and less obp. 37 games over .500? Man Swish and Damon are KILLING US.

Wiff
Lenny, that’s not true. Three teams had seven 20-HR hitters. If Jeter and Po get there, we’d be the first with eight.

that list absolutely screams steroids and rocky mountain high. what a dis-torsional effect.
