Trenton fighting for the postseason

Looking for something to do this weekend? Head to New Britain, Conn., and support the Double-A Trenton Thunder.

The Thunder need to take three of four games from the Rock Cats to make the Eastern League playoffs. It’s the final series of the regular season. The teams play at 7:05 p.m. tonight and tomorrow. The games on Sunday and Monday are at 1:35 p.m.

The best seats in the house are $15 and you get get in for as little as $5. New Britain Stadium is modern and easy to get to. If you’re interested in attending, follow this link for information.

  1. Wait till the ALDS

    Cool!

  2. Every year is a world series year

The Rock Cats? How is that a sports teams name? It sounds like a cheesy musical…

  3. Uncle Ellsworth (#2 needs 8 to tie #4)

    Connecticut = nowhere
New Britain = the middle of nowhere

    Good luck to the Thunder.

This was a pretty cool comment:

    Bob (Denver)

Is Chase Utley the ‘Derek Jeter’ of the NL? Albeit without the dating prowess…

    Jerry Crasnick (12:56 PM)

Bob, There are a lot of similarities. They’re great baserunners and attentive to all the little things. And they don’t have to say a lot to get their point across. I was talking to a Phillies player last night who told me, “Guys in this clubhouse don’t want to mess up, because they don’t want to disappoint Chase.” That was amazing to hear.

    ——————————-

But Crasnick is still a dork. Asked to choose between Washington & Girardi for moy, he chose Scoscia!

from SJ44’s post in the last thread:

“By the 5th inning, we get to actually introducing ourselves to her and she says here name is, “Eleanor”. My friend jokingly says, “Are you Lou Gehrig’s wife”, and she says, “yes”.

Needless to say, we were blown away. She couldn’t have been nicer, answering all kinds of dumb questions from 2 starstruck 19 year olds.”

    —————————–

Eleanor Gehrig is responsible for one of my favorite quotes of all time:

“I had the best of it with Lou. I would not have traded two minutes of my life with that man for 40 years with another.”

Lou and Eleanor Gehrig – class personified.

Funny coincidence. I was listening to XM and the Ripken brothers were talking to the manager of the Rockies about Tulowitski (sp?) and Jim Treacy (mgr of Rockies) mentioned that Joe Torre compared Tulo to Jeter.

I guess Jeter’s the go-to guy if you want to make the point that your SS is a stand-up guy, a leader, and a great player, to boot. :)

  7. vin

Jeter would never have said “World ****ing Champions!!!” at a victory parade. But other than that, yeah I can see the similarities.

    SJ44 -

Just caught up on the last thread. Congrats to the nephew! If he gets to Altoona next year, I’m getting tickets to see him when he comes to town to play the Trenton Thunder! (We actually did see Altoona play this season in Trenton.)

And a great story about Gehrig’s wife. (Am I a terrible Yankee fan if I can never remember where the “h” goes? :) )

  9. m

    haha, Doreen.

As far as Yankees are concerned, there’s only one Jeter.

  10. Doreen

    m -

I’d go so far as to say that where the universe of baseball lis concerned, there is only one Derek Jeter!

  11. benfica356

time for the 4th rd of GTLU. Can Joe Girardi be beaten after winning 2 in a row and can someone else beat clint? Submissions until 3:30 PM

  12. m

    Doreen,

Oops, meant to say Yankee fans (an extension of the collective “we”?).

    But you’re right.

It’s strange, though. There are many things you don’t appreciate until they’re gone. But not Jeter. Even if he’s not giving you those spectacular defensive plays anymore, you can still appreciate all the little things he does.

And people knock him on his leaderships skills, but it’s becoming more and more apparent as the curtain is pulled back, that those people don’t know what they’re talkin about.

  13. tex's friend

#yanks wont negotiate with derek jeter this winter, even after mvp calibre season. or maybe partly because of mvp type year
    ___

this is dumb. this will be an issue next year if they dont do it now.

“But Crasnick is still a dork. Asked to choose between Washington & Girardi for moy, he chose Scoscia!”

Scoscia deserves to be in the discussion. Nobody suffered thru worse injuries to starting pitching than he did. Guererro was useless for about 75% of the season, his bullpen had early struggles and he still has his team in the hunt. I’d still go Washington 1, Giradrdi 2, but Scoscia definitely deserves a look.

  15. m

And look at that! You made me forget my ‘g’.

  16. hardwired7

Where does Skip Bayless stand on the Yanks’ playoff chances now?

I’d like to punch him right in the gut.

  17. Rex

    “Giradrdi 2″

Oops! Girardi 2….. Damn new fingers.

  18. Rex

    TF:

Jeter isn’t going to go sign elsewhere. He’d eat his cleats before playing in something other than a Yankee uni. No need to rush it. Do you have any doubt Cashman and ownership will be anything other than fair with him when the time comes?

  19. big sky yankee

my homeland, hard hittin’ new britain. sorry to the thunder, but you never go against where you were born.

the stadium is nice and believe it or not Jeff Bagwell and Roger(you lookin’ at ME!!) Clemens played at the old Beehive Stadium next door for the New Britain Red Sox.

  20. Jon in CT

I’m taking my 8 yo daughter on Sunday. I root for the Rock Cats except (to her chagrin) in this instance……….

  21. SP

One small correction…I believe tonight and tomorrow night’s Trenton / New Britain games are at 6:35.

    LETS GO TRENTON!!!

  22. Brian

    Connecticut = nowhere
New Britain = the middle of nowhere
