This creature was spotted at Yankee Stadium tonight. It appears to be a hybrid of the Abominable Snowman and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Fans are advised to stay away and let security or Brian Cashman deal with this beast. It answers to the name of Swishalicious. It once roamed the Chicago area but migrated to New York last winter.

    I really can’t remember.

Stay-puft marshmallow man; I thought the same thing, and it describes Swish perfectly in that picture:

    Imposing.

    Happy.

    And utterly ridiculous.

    You go Swish!

  15. Ed H. September 9th, 2009 at 12:26 am

How did we ever enjoy the Yankees before Nick Swisher was here?

  16. mattseattleusa September 9th, 2009 at 12:26 am

That is hilarious! Let’s hope this creature stays around through the month of October for sure…

LOL. Yep, marshmallow man from Ghostbusters. Especially with the fists raised like that. All he needs is that sailor looking pillsbury doughboy hat thingy that he wears.

Heh, look at AJ the perpetrator lurking in the background admiring his handiwork. Nice shot there, AJ.

Something tells me Swish is enjoying playing in NY.

  20. Pat M. September 9th, 2009 at 12:32 am

Nick in SF, Bumgarner looked good tonight….Padres have been playing tough as of late…….Cal Berkley now ranked # 10 in the all so important AP Poll…..Pete delivers a standing 8 count to PEL who was saved by the bell…..

  21. Erica - always OPPC September 9th, 2009 at 12:32 am

I am off!! Good night Yankee people!!!

Off to a client in the city tomorrow, which is always an adventure cause I hardly ever work in the city. I have no clue if I will have internet there. So try to survive without me!

  22. steve September 9th, 2009 at 12:33 am

Fuentes blows the save 2-2 top 9th in La La land…

He could also pass for the Michelen Tire Man, in the right light.

  26. Nick in SF September 9th, 2009 at 12:41 am

Whew, I think Erica was trying to lure me into making an inappropriate remark about arranging for her presence somewhere.

Pat M, I’m very happy with Cal’s #10 ranking, though it’s annoying that we got jumped by BYU. We have a creampuff with Eastern Washington this Saturday, our next test will come a week after in Eugene.

Bumgarner was impressive in his ML debut, but now the Giants are in real danger of falling 3 back in the wild card… down a run in the 8th with the Padres threatening more with 2 on, none out.

  27. Stevie September 9th, 2009 at 12:44 am

And they’re playing Taps in SF. Giants season is ovah.

  28. m September 9th, 2009 at 12:45 am

Facing the Angels might not be such a bad thing. Fuentes can be gotten to.

  29. Zach in Port Jeff September 9th, 2009 at 12:46 am

Having an almost double-digit lead has increased my productivity at work.

  30. Pat M. September 9th, 2009 at 12:51 am

Nick in SF, I’m rooting for the Giants and I still think they’ll pull in off down the stretch….They’re going to be a handful in the first round ( NLDS )

  31. Fire Bud Selig September 9th, 2009 at 12:55 am

  32. bruce smirnoff September 9th, 2009 at 1:25 am

Very Funny Pete!!!! Run for the hills!

  33. Pel - "Personally, I hope Jeter never (dodges the media and) talks to the media again (forever and ever)." September 9th, 2009 at 2:33 am

I just caught an ESPNEWS rehash of tonight’s game and they said that this is the 3rd Yankees team in 45 years who are 1st to 90 wins.

    1980 – Lost ALCS
    1998 – Won WS
    2009 – ?

  34. Swishalicious. September 9th, 2009 at 4:08 am

This guy is doing an awesome job :)

  35. Lee23 September 9th, 2009 at 5:02 am

    Hysterical!
Funniest thing I’ve read in a loooong time!

    This season is amazing

  36. JeterJobaCanoFanForever, enough said September 9th, 2009 at 5:33 am

Great photo of Swish. Does this guy enjoy the game of baseball or what. He makes the game even more fun as the team is on an awesome run to the WS. What a guy and what a team.

At first I didn’t like him that much and he lost a ball over his head in a game that Joba ended up losing early in the season. But after the team started setting records for their offense here is Swisher in the HR log with A-Rod, Tex, Damon, Posada, Cano et al. I realized he is for real. Then he hit two more. Fun, fun guy.

    Great photo. Thanks.

  37. Chico Harris September 9th, 2009 at 6:04 am

    Who gets the photo credit?

  38. Paco Dooley September 9th, 2009 at 6:13 am

Swish may not be the best right fielder defensively or even offensively, but he gives this team what they need. They have been depressingly serious recently and the team now has fantastic team chemistry. That’s also what makes AJ better than his mediocre won-loss and ERA.

Between having Jeter as a role model for young players and having guys like AJ and Swish keeping it fun, they will hopefully also start to produce the next generation of great Yankees.

  39. Paco Dooley September 9th, 2009 at 6:14 am

Not only first to 90 wins, but they have passed last year’s win total with a good chunk of games to play. I’m betting on 105 wins

  40. Johnny D. September 9th, 2009 at 6:21 am

He’s one of the biggest fans of the game. Good for him.

  41. MJR (Shut Up Steve Phillips) September 9th, 2009 at 6:23 am

good at the plate, great in the clubhouse.

    you’re a good man Nick.

  42. Karen September 9th, 2009 at 6:52 am

Swishahouse is the main reason I like to watch the Yankees. He’s fun, he’s genuine, and I hope he hits like hell through October.

  43. Doreen September 9th, 2009 at 7:01 am

I flipped on MLB Network after the game last night and they named a “clutch performer of the night.” They chose Dustin Pedroia, who had two HRs an 3 rbi in the Sox 10-0 win. It was his first 2-hr game.

Now, while that is a nice little game there, I’d hardly call it the clutch performance of the night over what our very own Nick Swisher did. He also had 2 HRs, but if he didn’t have them, they wouldn’t have won. That’s clutch. It can be argued that if Dusty went hitless the Sox still win. A good night for him, yes; clutch performance? No way.

  44. Richard C September 9th, 2009 at 7:14 am

    God Bless you, Nick Swisher.

  45. Evan D. September 9th, 2009 at 7:25 am

    Memo to Girardi:

Despite batting 8th in the lineup in postseason play, if we have 2 on and 0 outs, please let the Swish swing the bat!

  46. Doreen September 9th, 2009 at 7:41 am

I just got a chance to watch Kim’s interview with Dr. and Mrs. Jeter – Derek’s folks – on the YES website. Lovely, lovely people. And they give a much better interview than their son!

(Though I have seen Derek in some interviews where he talks about something besides himself and he is much more expressive in those.)

  47. Denise September 9th, 2009 at 7:54 am

hillarious! Swish is just what they need, show the others not to take everything so serious and reminder that this is a game, we call it baseball; it is SUPPOSED to be fun!

  48. John in Ohio September 9th, 2009 at 8:00 am

UPDATE, 9:54 p.m.: Mo in the ninth. If the Yankees are to win this, it’ll be a walk-off. Gentlemen, start your pies.

    Nicely played, Mr. Abraham

  49. Ryan September 9th, 2009 at 8:08 am

how am I supposed to motivate myself to go to my classes when I could be chatting about the yankees all day long on here? Any suggestions?

  50. Betsy September 9th, 2009 at 8:19 am

LOL Pete………AJ got Swish good last night, but someone needs to seriously question the guy. Running out of Reddi Whip? No excuses……….

  51. upstate kate September 9th, 2009 at 8:21 am

ESPN had a lot of love for Swish this am. He was in the opening section and was the top play. They showed his HR from about 4 angles and also showed him getting pie-ed.

  52. Doreen September 9th, 2009 at 8:25 am

    upstate Kate -

    Yay for that!

  53. Betsy September 9th, 2009 at 8:31 am

I can not believe how big a deal the media is making of this – Jeter has had slumps before. This isn’t even a big one – it’s a few games, big deal. All the headlines lead off with “Jeter hitless, but Yanks win” or something to that effect. Who cares? I mean, I look forward to him getting the record, but this is too much.

  54. able 21 September 9th, 2009 at 8:33 am

That’s a great picture of Swish. Even funnier was Burnett hitting him with the pie and rubbing all over Swish’s head. Then those two eye holes and the grin appeared through the whipped cream. What a moment.

  55. upstate kate September 9th, 2009 at 8:41 am

yeah, AJ got him good. Does anyone know what AJ was saying to Swish?

  56. jennifer September 9th, 2009 at 8:41 am

    rb September 8th, 2009 at 11:41 pm

Erica, Sterling stopped using Jolly old St. Nick awhile ago. He apparently asked John to use Swishalicious instead.

I’m sorry you didn’t get to see history, but a walk-off is pretty cool too!
    ************

I saw you posted the link. I was at Foley’s they were talking about changing the homerun call, and that he didn’t like the one John uses, (he wasn’t exactly sure what it was) I told him. He was like what is up with that. LOL I contributed to Swishalious lore. :-)

  57. The Ghost September 9th, 2009 at 8:47 am

anyone notice the only time Jeter becomes unclutch is when he focuses on personal goals? It’s like an affront to his DNA or something.

    ————————————————-

Sounds like an offense to be settled in Kangaroo Court.

  64. rover September 9th, 2009 at 10:21 am

When is someone going to point out that the Swisher acquistion is not all that. I mean the guy has almost no shot to hit 40. Another managerial failing I suppose.

  65. Shew September 9th, 2009 at 11:26 am

Maybe A.J. should practice throwing baseballs and not pies….

  66. ChrisC September 9th, 2009 at 1:21 pm

Thanks for this post, Pete. One of my all-time favorites of yours! I love the year Swisher is having and so does my Dad, who has become a HUGE Swisher fan!

God, I hope they keep this up and WIN the World Series this year. LET’S GO Yanks!

  67. Albany +er September 9th, 2009 at 3:41 pm

I was extremely excited when the Yankees traded for swisher, and so far, I feel vindicated. Might I suggest a new title for this pic: Swish-mellow man.

  68. Stateman52 September 9th, 2009 at 4:33 pm

It is feast or famine with Swish in both his hitting and outfield play. I will admit he is better than Betemit, than again Horace Clarke was better than Betemit.
