  4. Bill in Boston September 11th, 2009 at 10:05 am

Awesome!!! I’m going to my first game at the new stadium on saturday.. Was worried it would be Mitre. Was hoping for Carsten Charles but I’ll settle for Allen James

Will be interested to see Tillman and Matusz pitch live. They are going to be a big part of the future of the O’s starting staff, two really talented guys. Tillman they got in the Erik Bedard trade which continues to look like one of the most lopsided deals in quite some time.

  6. nature boy September 11th, 2009 at 10:09 am

well i would assume tonight gets rained out so hopefully that pushes cc to monday for the angels

  7. Rishi September 11th, 2009 at 10:11 am

Looks like its our playoff rotation in reverse. Hope they go out and beat down those birds. Hopefully the rain holds off tonight.

I don’t think I mentioned this yet, but this handle makes me smile everytime I see it. Congratulations again :-)

I’m flying up to the city from SC (insert politician joke here) for my first game at the new stadium. I’m planning to get there early to look around. Does anyone have any recommendations? And when does the Stadium open for an afternoon game? Thanks.

Erica, glad to hear it, it was always fun to GTLU, and I wanted to keep its memory alive and promote my (moderate) success via the handle. You’re not supposed to celebrate 3rd place but whatever, only 2 people (3 if you count Girardi) can say they were better at GTLU.

  16. Vader September 11th, 2009 at 10:20 am

Taking the family to the game tomorrow…so a little part of me, oh who am I kidding, I hope tha game is rained out and tomorrow is the day that DJ breaks the record.

The stadium opens 3 hours before game time. I would go right up to the Yankee Museum first. The line was long when i tried to get there later. When you walk in the main gate, Gate 6 there is a ramp by the Hard Rock. Go up that ramp and you will see the Museum.

I agree completely. GTLU is harder than it seems. 3rd place is quite an accomplishment considering the amount of people who actually played regularly.

I am planning to do a “Guess the Line Up- Postseason”. I will work out the logistics of it when the playoff calendar is released. I actually miss GTLU. I keep feeling like there is something I am supposed to be doing at 2. LOL

  19. Jay Hirsch September 11th, 2009 at 10:25 am

Don’t want to pitch your regulars too often against the Angels and let them get a preview for the playoffs.

  20. dba September 11th, 2009 at 10:28 am

    Thanks Erica!

  21. JohnC September 11th, 2009 at 10:33 am

It always hurt more losing game 7 in Arizona in 2001 than blowing the 2004 ALCS to Boston because of what winning that WS would have meant for NY after the tragedy of 9/11. God bless the families of all those who lost loved ones on that terrible day.

  22. 86w183 September 11th, 2009 at 10:34 am

    Erica —

I didn’t play GTLU alot but I did win once — AND had the earliest entry. I appreciate you doing it.

However GTLU in the post season won’t be very interesting. If everyone is healthy it probably won’t change from Jeter, Damon, Tex, Alex, Matsui, Posada, Cano, Swish, Melky.

  23. Rex September 11th, 2009 at 10:35 am

Hey Andrew, was that you who submitted that scathing statement/question to Keith Law yesterday?

  24. Erica - always OPPC September 11th, 2009 at 10:36 am

To Anyone Going to the Game on Saturday-

Kim Girardi (Joe’s wife) will be having a stomach cancer awareness event. She will be selling blue hair extensions to raise money towards stomach cancer.

My mother died of stomach cancer in 2002 at the age of 47. She was in a lot of pain for a year before the doctors were able to find the source of it. I always wonder if they were able to detect it earlier if my mother would be alive today.

Even if blue hair extensions aren’t really your thing, I would greatly appreciate anyone who stopped by to make a donation to this very important cause.

  25. MG September 11th, 2009 at 10:37 am

first, we should always take a few minutes to think about 9/11/2001 and to hope this never happens again.

secondly, Jetes will probably lead off the game with a hit and end this quickly.

finally, has there ever been a 3 game series where the visiting team has a worse chance of winning a game than this weekend? The O’s may be good in a couple of years but right now, with these pitching matchups on the road, they have virtually no chance.

I considered that, but Girardi could still have a few tricks up his sleeve. And there are things to consider like-DHing A-Rod? Will Posada catch everyday? etc…

  27. Andrew GTLU Bronze Medalist September 11th, 2009 at 10:41 am

At least Joe Girardi won’t win the GTLU postseason editions.

As to not pitching the regulars too often against the Angels, I don’t think that is part of the Yankees’ strategy–it’s just going to work out that way. When the Yankees go back out to Anaheim I doubt they will be purposely shielding Burnett or Sabathia or Pettitte from facing them, so as to keep them unknown come a potential postseason.

  28. bruceb September 11th, 2009 at 10:41 am

Have tickets for tonight. Weather forecast does not look promising. Does anyone have any clues when the game might be played if its rained out as it doesn’t appear we have any make-up days left? The only two clear days in the schedule are needed for travel to and from the West Coast.

2001 WS has to be worse than 2004 ALCS. 2001 World series it was over in a matter of minutes, going from extreme excitement to shock and disappointment. 2004 ALCS after game 4 was a slow week of torture.

  31. haiku-man September 11th, 2009 at 10:45 am

Mlbtraderumors yesterday speculated that, the Yankees may Non tender Wang, and instead offer him a minor league contract to move him from the 40 man roster.Wang has said he wants to stay with the Yankees, but do you think he or his agent will allow this?

A host of NL as well as AL teans will line up if he’s free. Please tell me the Yankees won’t let him walk.

  32. Andrew GTLU Bronze Medalist September 11th, 2009 at 10:47 am

Rex, wasn’t me but I love the sound of the work one of my fellow Andrew’s on the planet is doing–what was the question to Klaw?

  33. Rex September 11th, 2009 at 10:47 am

“I considered that, but Girardi could still have a few tricks up his sleeve. And there are things to consider like-DHing A-Rod? Will Posada catch everyday? etc”

Kinda doubt it Erica. It will be all about the best lineup once the games start to matter again. Posada will catch every game and Matsui will almost certainly be the DH. He could throw a curve on the CF position, but beyond that or injury, I think Joe G will be pretty locked in on the lineup.

  34. ADam September 11th, 2009 at 10:51 am

    Joba against the Angels????

  35. eric September 11th, 2009 at 10:57 am

    sweep

  36. MichiganYankee September 11th, 2009 at 10:59 am

Hmmm. It would have been easy to send out Mitre on Saturday or Sunday and save AJ or CC for the Angels. Perhaps they want Girardi is trying to avoid over-exposing the big guns to the Angels.

  37. Rex September 11th, 2009 at 11:00 am

    Andrew:

Law, and some of his audience, was kinda downplaying the significance of becoming the team leader in hits. Stuff like:

    1) Is becoming the guy with the 53rd most hits worth all this media coverage?

    2) Where was this coverage when Al Oliver passed Gehrig in hits?

So this other Andrew ripped into a little. Thought it could have been you.

  38. 86w183 September 11th, 2009 at 11:03 am

Wang will most likely be in a position like Jon Leiber was a few years ago and will probably take the most $$$ he can get whether it’s on a minor league deal or major league.

The Yanks have to offer $ Four Million to keep that from happening and control his rights and I doubt they or anyone else will go that high.

  39. AMS223 September 11th, 2009 at 11:10 am

my guess is they will do whatever they can to play the game tonight. Not only because of Jeter, yes they realize this is a hot hot ticket and do take that into consideration, but also because they wont want to play 2 double headers in a week. Jeter gets a leadoff hit, yanks win 3-1 in a 5 inning affair

  40. bluelion September 11th, 2009 at 11:13 am

im going to my first game this Wednesday, I’m trying to figure out who’s pitching….NO MITRE please

  41. 86w183 September 11th, 2009 at 11:32 am

Wednesday should be Pettite if there are no postponements between now and then.

  42. Oreos Cooked September 11th, 2009 at 12:44 pm

You could pitch 3 AAA pitchers this weekend and still walk away with 3 wins. What a GIANT joke!

The $201Million team against the $67Million team.

    Sounds real fair….don’t ‘cha think?

  43. Ryan September 11th, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Oreos cooked must be a bitter mid market fan…just so sad
