  6. Matt

They will come in hot and heavy now…

  7. Benjamin in KC

    Coming up with stuff…

  8. Ed - slacking in class now

    Repost:

Gardner & Guzman as pinch runners in the playoffs? it does make sense though, one could pinch run for Matsui, while the other pinch runs for Posada late in the game.

  9. RCK

I have to admit, I really want to win that hat.

  10. Kei Igawa

I’m gonna be looking sweet cruising Scranton with that ski cap on.

  11. Nick

    GO YANKEES! 27 in ‘09!!!

  12. Mike

    Hmm…

  13. Tim N.

    Okay, here’s my contribution:

    Magic number jerseys:

    13: Walt “No Neck” Williamss
    12: Jim Spenser
    11: Buck Showalter
    10: Celerino Sanchez

More to come… anyone have any others?

  14. Charlie

I think Pete would have an aneurysm if I won.

  15. ANSKY

Pete’s bluffing with the magic number :)

  16. Matt

Pete…this is a testament to you. Congratulations.

  17. Erica - always OPPC

But the comments should be meaningful!!!!

Pete is probably laughing at us. LOL

  18. scott duncan

  19. Benjamin in KC

    WANT a new Soup Bowl.

  20. DJ

the yankees should win a playoff series this season but aj burnett scares the crap out me

  21. Yankee fan stuck in the heart of "The Nation"

I would want Guzman as a pinch runner over an etxra pitcher

  22. Clay Bellinger

    Go Yankees!

  23. Muel

I think the yankees should be The New York Yankees of the Bronx, only for today, in honor of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

  24. jaybird

I never won anything in my life…..

  25. E

I think it would have been better if the posts regarding how close we are weren’t put up today and it was a surprise so there weren’t random posters like me just trying to come with anything to say.

  26. Adam

That ski cap is going to look nice on me while I’m cruising down the mountain!

  27. Evan D.

The lucky 1 million should be about Joba and his rightful move (eventually) to the bullpen.

Joba is a reliever this year. He just gives his innings early in the game as opposed to middle or late in the game.

  28. Erica - always OPPC

MPB Johnny Damon = Awesome

  29. kav

Guzman is really fast. I am excited to see him

  30. Mike in WPB

Love it. Now how many of the 1,000000 comments are actually insightful? (certainly not this one)

  31. Matt

Watch, the magic number will go from 3 to 1 in one day, skipping right over Jeter’s jersey…

  32. Rocco

    Go Jets!

  33. Clay Buchholz Loves Laptops

I want to know what Bob Watson felt like!

  35. the artist formerly known as (sic)

I could really use a cup of soup right now. I hope I win!

  36. Benjamin in KC

Next rain out headline should be “Lost in the Flood”

  37. Kei Igawa

I can’t believe I’m wasting all this time trying to win a shirt PEte found in the trunk of his car. lol

  38. Mike

Looks like a good haul. Totally would like to win.

  39. Sean Ryan

Damn.. I’m so bad at math, I was counting, I was 94 posts away from 1,000,000 when you posted this post.

  41. DJ

how fast is guzman? never heard of him

  42. Unknown

Man lets go I need this!

  43. Muel

Does anyone know if they’re ever going to have a bacon day at the stadium?

  44. 27 this year

I think Gardner serves the purpose of being a pinch runner rather than needing guzman.

  45. Laura

    I want those luggage tags.

  46. Ed - slacking in class now

serious question: rookies usually comes up to the fans to give autographs right?

  47. kav

I love this blog. You rule Pete

  48. Yankee fan stuck in the heart of "The Nation"

Is the rotation gonna be CC-AJ-Pettite for the first round? I think that would make sense, hold Andy for a clinching game 3 or to get the Yanks to 2-1 if AJ bombs in game 2!

  49. Matt

    Insert Useless Comment Here.

  50. Kei Igawa

    Boston Stinks!

  51. Sean Ryan

    I’m going to win

  52. ANSKY

Will they announce the winner at the stadium? :)

  53. Rocco

UPDATE, 3:06 p.m.: Getting closer now — 28 to go. I hope a regular wins, I really do.

    I’m a regular, I just dont post a lot.

  54. Jonathan

Girardi should be retained even if they go out in the first round.

  55. 27 this year

At least Gardner plays a good position

  56. scott

    oh man, getting close! 2709

  57. DJ

  62. Alan Herson

The magic number is 10 for the wild card.

  63. Dave

    is it me?

  77. 27 this year

we have pena and hairston for the other spots

  78. Vinny

    Winner?

  79. Langdon

I think AJ showed a lot of promise outside his one bad inning last week. Granted it really was an awful inning, but hopefully he can take something out of the rest of his outing to help him launch into a solid finish for the season.

  80. DJ

    the yanks win number 27

  81. Bill

It should really be CC and Andy first, considering Andy’s big game mentality. Especially if we get someone like Verlander in Game 1.

Posada catching against the Angels worries me.

  86. RCK

I think having two pinch runners on the roster doesn’t make any sense.

This will be my final, no doubt fruitless attempt to be the millionth commenter.

  87. Evan D.

What happened to guess the lineup?

I need something to occupy some real work time.

  88. Mike in WPB

  152. 86w183

Is there any soup in the bowl? Will the soup Nazi fill it with the soup du jour?

I can’t imagine any scenario under which Guzman makes the 25-man without a major injury or two. I’ve never read or seen anything to indicate he is a star defensive replacement.

  153. steven

I would also like to pinch run.

  157. Shawn

I’m really looking forward to the Seattle game with CC vs. King Felix. Should be a really good game, if you like good pitching match-ups, strikeouts and not a lot of runs.

  230. Doreen

    Hi all.

Good news on IPK. Great news in fact.

    Hi Pete -

I don’t ever even play the lotto, but I figure, this is different. And I am a regular, so I’d help increase the odds of a regular winning.

P.S. I was running late this morning and got to see the fracas in the fifth. Good stuff. Hope it lights a fire for the next month, like the last major one in Atlanta did. And about Johnny Damon’s non-error – frankly, I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often to some players especially during slow-paced games. Heck, I don’t always know how many outs there are (I know, I’m not paid to remember. :) )

    Joe in LI

If you’re around. Thanks for asking about the trip to LI yesterday. Traffic wasn’t bad at all. But my daughters campus was hosting a Central American Heritage Day Festival (mostly El Salvador). It was actually pretty cool, but a minor inconvenience for those of us who had to be there moving into the dorms. Lots of blue and white, great smells, music and happy people.

  231. jeff

OK, after that now we can talk more baseball ,… still no one found basketball freak johnnie selvie so i shall hold on to my prizes.

  232. Ruddy Garmendez

Regardless if I win or not…I hope to see the Yankees win the 2009 World Series…and Jeter for MVP !!
