Here is a quick update on the minor-league playoffs:

Triple-A Scranton: The Yankees are in the International League finals and face Crash Davis and the Durham Bulls in a best-of-five series that starts Tuesday. It’s a rematch of the finals from last season. If you’re interested in catching a game, Scranton hosts Game 3 on Thursday. Game 4 (if needed) would be on Friday and Game 5 (if needed) on Saturday would also be at PNC Field.

Go to the team site for more information.

Single-A Tampa: They are tied 1-1 in the best-of-five Florida State League finals. The final three games are at Charlotte starting tonight. The Yankees will send D.J. Mitchell to the mound tonight.

Rookie League Staten Island: Staten Island faces Mahoning Valley in the best-of-three New York/Penn League finals starting tonight. Staten Island hosts Game 1 tonight. Games 2 and 3 are at Mahoning Valley, wherever that is.

2009 draft pick Adam Warren starts tonight for Staten Island. If you’re interested in attending,

Go to the team web site for ticket information.

The Brickyard showdown rematch with the Sacramento River Cats is on track.

You can also most likely just show up at Richmond County Ballpark if you want to see Adam Warren & the SI Yanks. Staten Island is not exactly bubbling with championship fever for the Baby Bombers (still wearied from the Little League World Series?), so tickets will definitely be available at the gate.

I believe that Mahoning Valley is located in the greater Youngstown, Ohio area. That Ohio bit is confusing given that it is the New York – Penn League.

anyone think there might be a chance that IPK gets a chance to start for scranton before the playoffs end?

No truth to the rumor that Nook LaLoosh was sent down from the “big” club for insulting another female reporter named Ray-ann with cheesy Motley Crue lyrics. I wonder if she still makes him wooly?? In real life I would like to see IPK actually come back this year and get a start. It’d be quite a story.

This a good sign for the future of the Yankees. There is talent on the farm and good team chemistry so it seems.

The Mahoning valley ballpark is in Niles, Ohio.

Can we get an all around update as to how the other Yankee farm teams performed?

  10. Joe C September 14th, 2009 at 1:30 pm

Regarding the remainder of the Yankee farm teams,
Trenton (AA) did not make the playoffs. Charleston (A) did not make the playoffs. Gulf Coast league (Rookie) lost in the playoffs to the GCL Marlins. Dominican Summer League Yankees 2 (Rookie) lost to the DSL Twins in the playoffs and DSL 1 Yankees did not make the playoffs.
So 5 of the 8 minore league teams ,ade the post season. Hopefully this translates to good prospects for the future in the Bronx or to trade.

I think I’ll hit one of the games in Durham, as I’m not far from it. See if I can get the guys on my rec-league ball team to go with. There’s 5 Yanks fans on our team…
