Posada threw an elbow Pete?

the TV angles weren't great, but it sure looked like Carlson purposely got in front of him and stuck his glove out.

i'll give you the benefit of the doubt though with your view

"but it will probably get much closer, enough to make us uncomfortable."

You already sound uncomfortable.

Sox are playing 20 games without an off day and 10 on the road which has been less than stellar for them.

I would think Francona would be more focused on making sure his players are fresh and rested than chasing a possible division win when they are getting an invite to the postseason either way but I could be wrong.

Matt,

Never mind that the Red Sox are two completely different teams on the road and at home.

They've been under .500 on the road all season long.

They don't have 16 home games left. But they do have a 10-game road trip starting on Friday.

If the Yanks simply play .500 ball over their remaining games, it would still be an enormous task for the Red Sox to go 16-3 during that same span.

Mitre losing to Halladay is embarrassing?

The Yankees were the underdog in this game. Rare for a home game.

We got 2 runs off Halladay. Not exactly a pounding.

And -- if I dare -- something like 100% of baseball brawls occur in games in which there is a loss.

Boston's "road trip" includes Baltimore and KC. Two teams they can beat with their eyes shut.

It's not like going to Chicago or Texas.

This team bounces back after ugly losses. They've done it all season and I expect that trend to continue.

"Why can’t I shake this feeling that Yanks and Sox will be tied (or worse) by the time the Yanks finish this West Coast road trip? Is it me or do they just look flat lately?"

It's really not as outrageous as it seems. We go out for 6 games on the West against 2 good teams while Boston plays Baltimore and KC.

We go 2-4, they go 5-1, lead is down to 2 games before starting a series with us.

We may not actually blow the division, but it will probably get much closer, enough to make us uncomfortable. Boston is playing to well and our pitching is in a funk outside of CC.
