Pete this remids me of the Entourage episode where Ari gets the big job offer and thinks about leaving VInce. So sad.

    Nova: 6 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts.

Jackson is 1-2 with a run scored, 1 stolen base, 1 strikeout, 1 walk.

Miranda is 1-2 with a run scored and a triple.

Ransom is 1-2 with a single, a sac fly, a strikeout and 2 RBI.

  5. Jim Pir-one September 17th, 2009 at 8:40 pm

I thought Kendry Morales was good?

He looks pretty stinky against the Sox.

  6. GreenBeret7 September 17th, 2009 at 8:46 pm

Heading into the top of the 7th inning, Scranton still leads, 2-0.

  7. Mike September 17th, 2009 at 8:46 pm

    Ransom!

  8. Mike September 17th, 2009 at 8:47 pm

Did you take the job offer so that no one would get the millionth post so there would be no dinner or whatever the prize was?

  9. Joe September 17th, 2009 at 8:50 pm

Pete this is painful man, really painful. dude you better come back tomorrow and tell me this was joke. I mean I can’t blame you for doing it but man, this is gonna stink. I SWEAR TO GOD BETWEEN FACEBOOK AND THIS BLOG GOES %90 OF MY DAY. Just the thought of you pulling for those stinking red sox is just ridiculous.

Is Ivan Nova a serious prospect or just a filler they put in Scranton that is on a good streak?

  11. AlbanyYankee September 17th, 2009 at 8:52 pm

    Peter,

When print news completely goes belly-up in the Northeast, you should seriously consider getting a few of your favorite beat writers together and starting a website about NY Sports. Get a Mets guy, a Yankees guy, a Jets guy and a Giants guy. Hell, if you can find a Knicks guy, bring him along too. People would pay for this site. I know that for a fact.

  12. GreenBeret7 September 17th, 2009 at 8:52 pm

Ivan Nova is rolling against the Rays AAA team. 7 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts. 89 ground outs, 7 fly outs, 84 pitches, 53 strikes, 31 balls.

  13. GreenBeret7 September 17th, 2009 at 8:53 pm

    ***9 ground outs***

  14. m September 17th, 2009 at 8:55 pm

I thought espn or SI would be Pete’s next stop. We’d all follow him there like, well like Abraham.

  15. brad September 17th, 2009 at 8:55 pm

Azaz I agree, feel like fake plastic trees should be playing in the background.

Peteabe, I am devastated but can’t help but be proud of you and happy for your family. Your success is really going to change a lot of people’s daily routine around here.

actually, Nova is a pretty good young pitcher. 22 years old. Spectacular, no, but, he’s been rushed a bit, perhaps.

Bottom of the 7th inning, Jackson is 1-2 with 2 walks (always encouraging)

  23. hardwired7 September 17th, 2009 at 9:01 pm

This is no surprise. Pete grew up a Red Sox fan and always has been one.

There is a link I can provide to prove it.

    ————————-

it’s irrelevant, Jim. what more could we have asked from Pete? He’s been a diligent posting machine with reliable information and a wry sense of humor.

any replacement is going to be ersatz, at best.

  30. Giuseppe Franco September 17th, 2009 at 9:04 pm

Who gives a flying crap about what team someone rooted for while growing up?

Alliances change depending on who signs your paycheck. It happens all the time.

Most players aren’t playing for the team they rooted for as a kid.

Phil Hughes was a Sox fan growing up, too. Does that mean if and when he pitches poorly against them that he’s doing so intentionally?

Get your heads out of your arses and get a clue.

This is a business and changing alliances is the nature of the business.

  31. pat September 17th, 2009 at 9:04 pm

  34. GreenBeret7 September 17th, 2009 at 9:07 pm

Nova is in trouble in the top of the 8th inning. No outs, only his 2nd walk of the night and a bloop single. Kroenke now pitching.

  35. Backbench September 17th, 2009 at 9:08 pm

    Pete:

    AlbanyYank has a good idea.

“When print news completely goes belly-up in the Northeast, you should seriously consider getting a few of your favorite beat writers together and starting a website about NY Sports.”

There’s a real business model here. You should consider it. Adding your network to the quality regulars you have on this blog could make for an interactive, real time NY sports nexus that no other outlet could match. I would pay for a service like that.

  36. hardwired7 September 17th, 2009 at 9:10 pm

  39. m September 17th, 2009 at 9:14 pm

Double steal and a single ties up the game. Let’s go, Scranton.

  40. GreenBeret7 September 17th, 2009 at 9:15 pm

Final line for Nova. 7 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, 5 strikeouts.

Kroenke gets two popups and a 2 strike 2 run single to John Rodriguez.. 2-2 tie.

Im aware. All I said was Pete is a Red Sox fan. That’s why it’s no surprise that he is going to cover them.

However, his work is beyond the realm of reality, that’s how good his coverage of the Yankees is.

I cannot imagine anyone else coming in and doing anything close to what he’s done.

We’ll be lucky to get 2 posts a day from anyone else or news about a player within 3 days of the news being new.
    ————

I doubt Pete’s decision to work for the Globe stemmed from his love of a team. It is the Boston Globe, Jim. Growing up in Massachusetts, I am sure people in the field of professional writing dream of working for a paper like that.

  42. GreenBeret7 September 17th, 2009 at 9:16 pm

Kroenke/Stewart have allowed three stolen bases in the inning, and it’s killed them.

    GO EVERYONE ELSE!!!

  53. J9 September 17th, 2009 at 9:29 pm

    Pete,
Good for you but please dont be disingenuous about your move. You have hit the big time (in your world) going to the globe from where you are now and I’m sure you are psyched…and justifiably so. But please don’t talk about how you want to be close to your family and how tough of a decision this is. It is a no-brainer decision from a career perspective. Of course you would say yes. These folks are not dumb.

I read from time to time and , though I’ve never commented, it has been fascinating to watch the commenters on this blog propel you to the next level. Though you have done a decent blog, I believe its success is primarily a result of great Yankees fans participating so enthusiastically because they finally have a workable forum to exchange ideas.

So best of luck to you, but if you are covering the Sox in two weeks, you should do the right thing and close down shop now. Otherwise, this is all a little silly.

  54. BJK September 17th, 2009 at 9:30 pm

    Pete-

This is kind of how it felt the day I read Boomer Wells signed with the Sox. I imagine it’s how Sox fans felt when they read Johnny Damon was heading to New York.

As someone who spends most of his day-job sorting through horrible writing, it has always been refreshing to take a break and read yours. You’ve kept us informed and often chuckling at the same time.

Best wishes, bring some earplugs to drown out Youkilis’ whining, and try not to trip over Pedroia.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I wouldn’t stop being a Yankee fan if I became a beat writer for ANY team. Obviously, you have to keep it out of your writing, but I’d still root for the Yankees.

The Yankees never signed his paycheck and I don’t know how writers get paid, but I don’t see how the Yankees doing well would be a huge factor in getting paid.

The Phil Hughes example doesn’t make any sense. Phil Hughes IS paid by the Yankees and his pay IS based on whether he performs well as a Yankee. There is no relationship between the two.

  56. timo September 17th, 2009 at 9:31 pm

    2. Morales has had a fine year but his strikeout to walk ratio isn’t good (102/39). He likes to swing the bat and will chase.

    Interesting.

The book says in a tie game, put your closer in the 9th when you’re at home.

Boston didn’t do that. Rather, Tito teh Great didn’t do that.

Tito put in Wagner and he’s choking.

Halos just scored and they have a runner on 2nd.

of course, it doesn’t matter, the ‘roid sox lovin’ media will never hold Tito to account for going against the book.

    DT,

    Just caught this one. Nice!

“hopefully it’s not his painting arm!”

  102. Abdababdaserser September 17th, 2009 at 9:49 pm

HAHAHAHAHA the Angels win. I guess the umpires didn’t get the graft tonight to help Boston get the win.

  103. Carl September 17th, 2009 at 9:50 pm

7 games up. How do you babies feel now?

  104. Darrin September 17th, 2009 at 9:50 pm

    Angels 4-3 final

  107. jd jr September 17th, 2009 at 9:51 pm

i never understood why being a beat writer wont allow you to ba a fan of a team?
you can still be a fan and be objective,,or is that taboo to admit or something?

  108. Dave September 17th, 2009 at 9:51 pm

I don’t know how people can kill Fuentes for last night. He had that game won. Yeah, he was a little shaky, but that’s why he is Brian Fuentes. But he should have still gotten out of that game with a scoreless inning and a win.

    He can’t control the umps.

  109. JasonR September 17th, 2009 at 9:51 pm

“hey does anybdy think that because of some of the idiot comments pete got frustrated since he always said that he was tired of “babysitting”. I definitely think that factored into his decision.”

I really doubt this was a giant factor in Pete’s decision. If it did, then he wouldn’t cover the Red Sox. If his new blog (if there is one) is even 3/4ths as clean as the Sons of Sam Horn board, he’ll be lucky to go more than 5 posts without deleting a post filled with obscenities.

    ================================================================
Which Red Sox player wears a Number 10?

  111. Abdababdaserser September 17th, 2009 at 9:52 pm

Pete is going to Boston because he wants a shorter season to cover.

  112. Darrin September 17th, 2009 at 9:53 pm

    Give me some Chris Chambliss!

  113. m September 17th, 2009 at 9:53 pm

    Azaz,

Nah. We all knew Pete would move on at some point.

But, Pete has been testy lately. Of course who wouldn’t be with all the crazies? But a lot of stuff makes sense now.

And just when he and Clare kissed and made up. ;)

  114. haiku-man September 17th, 2009 at 9:54 pm

What’s funny is Beckett pitch 114 pitches, and all but the 9th inning and still lost, bwahahah!

  115. Darrin September 17th, 2009 at 9:55 pm

In other good news, Seattle involved in a marathon. Maybe they’ll exhaust the bullpen.

  116. Abdababdaserser September 17th, 2009 at 9:55 pm

Gotta love Karma getting the Saux on that passed ball from Buckett.

    “Trisha -

    Not fat blind turd.

The politically correct term is overweight perfect eyesight Red Sox fan.”

Dave – absolutely right about Fuentes. He had the win last night until Rick Reed intervened.

Abdab – karma is so sweet when you see it served the way it was tonight.

    :)

  119. GreenBeret7 September 17th, 2009 at 10:00 pm

Trisha, did you watch the video that I linked a couple of minutes ago? You’ll love it.

  120. haiku-man September 17th, 2009 at 10:02 pm

I’ll bet the Angels can’t wait to get the Sawx in their own yard.Payback time!

  121. trisha - OPPC lifetime member who is missing the worry gene September 17th, 2009 at 10:07 pm

GB – I loved it!!! I especially loved it when the dad hugged the little girl even though she threw the ball back. How cool that she actually knew enough to throw it on the field (so she hasn’t yet learned when you throw it back.)

    :)

    Priceless. And precious.

  122. Abdababdaserser September 17th, 2009 at 10:11 pm

The Yankees remain the only team in MLB to have 90+ wins. It will take 3 more wins for the Angels to get to 90 wins. 4 more for Boston to hit that mark.

Pretty impressive, even with the resting of the players and some of the pitching they have been putting out there lately.

Can we get an official: Hire Chad Jennings post or section going? He does an amazing job with Scranton and would be a natural replacement as he knows all the people he needs to know. If you’re not reading his blog regularly, you’re missing out.

    Journal News, hire Chad Jennings!

Holy Crap we got played. Pete was always laughing at us while he made his bones with us.
    I feel humiliated.
