  1. Wait till the ALDS

I don’t care about beating Felix, I just want A.J. to do well.

  2. pong

    a salute to Pete

  3. BFARBS

so does this mean youre staying with us for the rest of the year?

  4. Joe

i just want pete to stay, but i understand that being close to the family is important and this is a pretty good opportunity for him

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.c.....index.html

well that takes the cake. the umpires from last night’s Angels-Sox game are complaining about the abuse they got.

and pete, I think the book idea I had in the last thread is something that’d be real interesting :)

  6. Uncle Ellsworth (be nice, until it's not time to be nice)

Very Jeterian of you Peter to Cut short that last thread.
    The Blog must go on.

I was serious about a going away shindig.

  7. m

See? It’s much brighter in here.

Just take the series. Where’s our friend (coach?) that tells us what Boston would have to do to overtake us.

  8. Shawn

Earlier in the week I was looking forward to a CC/King Felix match-up, but it turned out that Burnett is going to face Hernandez. I’m a little disappointed, but hopefully A.J. can prove me wrong and have a really good start. He’s got the potential and I know he can do it.

  9. Anthony

Pete, you will be replaced…but you REALLY CAN’T be replaced in our eyes.

    We Wish You Luck!!

  10. jonnycat

Dude, why not wait until November when the season is over? Surely something could have been worked out then to leave right before the playoffs?!?

  11. Track, Wall, HR

Tough game to begin the road trip. A.J. needs to pitch well and at the very least, improve his location and command.

  12. m

Was it necessary to have a conference call behind closed doors? Was there terroristic threatening?

The dramas! Are they trying to deflect from their ineptitude? It’s not working.

  13. Joe from Long Island

    No.

    NO.

    NO!

Pete, this is not what I wanted to see after work.

And, you’re not even staying for the playoffs and World Series?

Rationally, I understand. But, this is a kick in the gut.

I truly wish you the best. The Boston Globe and their readers have no idea how lucky they are.

  14. wanger

ugh gaudin and mitre vs LAA?

  15. Tom in N.J.

So, the umpires blow 2 calls that Stevie Wonder could have made, and they’re playing the victim card?

  16. Track, Wall, HR

Wanger-You don’t know that for sure. Andy will take the hill Monday, either Gaudin or Mitre can throw Tues, which leaves A.J. for Wed.
    What’s the problem???

  17. Carl

    Now I will troll Boston.com

  18. Wait till the ALDS

Those umpires at Fenway are lucky they still have a job.

  19. pat

I’m guessing no punches were thrown so they sound a little whiny complaining about being told off if that’s all it was.

The umps messed up. Just admit it and move on.

And Beckett adds to his HR allowed total.

  20. 100 pitches of fun...

A win or a loss won’t mean much tomorrow either way if AJ pitches bad. I wonder if his bad pitching has anything to do with fatigue? Molina said he thought it was possible. Since AJ hasn’t had that many 200 inning years. Game 2 of the ALCS could be 2 pitchers that have pitched terribly in Jackson and AJ and the question will be who steps up for that game.

I think a going away party is a great idea. (I never turn down a party :-) )

Have you contacted Pete to see if its something he would have time for before he goes or would you like me to?

  22. m

Seriously, Pete. Please tell the hostile natives that we’ll be dropping by to say “hi” once in a while. We come in peace and mean no harm. :)

  23. Erica - always OPPC

    Ian Snell…

How many endless hours did Brandon insist he was the answer to the Yankees pitching problems this season?? LOL

Seems like such a simpler time

  24. Abdababdaserser

The umpires should be taking plenty of abuse from the Angels. They handed the game to Boston. Boston didn’t win.

I would hope that the Commissioner was ripping into them big time because of the officiating of that game.

Snell has done alright for Seattle. At the same time Gaudin’s done a nice job here so it’s all a non issue

I have not. Go for it.

  27. Zooboy

Pete — Congrats. Here’s wishing you decades of great stories in Beantown (the agony of defeat, epic failures and chokes, etc.)Your blog and the community you’ve created are most appreciated. Best to you, your career, and your family.

  28. Sarah

I’ve been a lurker for years now. Stepping behind enemy lines onto your blog has been awesome, Pete. I look forward to your work at the Globe. Certainly much better news for Red Sox fans. To all Yankees fans, I’m sincerely sorry for the loss. You’re welcome to lurk at the Globe anytime. :)

  29. Abdababdaserser

100 pitches, AJ hasn’t been pitching well for a decent length of time, I can’t buy it that its fatigue driven. It is usually a melt down that happens rather than poor pitching throughout. Half the time its a bad inning and then he goes deep in the game.

  30. trisha - OPPC lifetime member who is missing the worry gene

It’s a riot that the homely turtle Rick Reed contacted the MLB about last night’s “abuse”. I would have thought the victims of the abuse, the Angels, would be the ones contacting the MLB about Rick Reed!

Nick said he was the brother of US Senator Jack Reed. I don’t know if he said that in jest but if he didn’t, it causes me even larger pause since the RI Reeds are HUGE Sux fans…

  31. trisha - OPPC lifetime member who is missing the worry gene

“The umpires should be taking plenty of abuse from the Angels. They handed the game to Boston. Boston didn’t win.”

    I heard that Scoscia made a comment about Nick Green’s 3 and 4 AB…

    Done :-)

  33. bknocks

wow congrats on the job..that sucks though you can’t stay through the rest of the season..here is the question though..yanks vs sox alcs..who are you rooting for?!?!

  34. 100 pitches of fun...

Did the ump really think he wasn’t going to hear it when he handed the game to the Sox? Please when you blow an obvious call expect to hear it. Something like that is waiting to happen in the play offs and some team will be….(insert any word here)…I hope it isn’t the Yanks…

  35. Bunny

Pete finally realized his mistake and is coming over to the GOOD side. Go Sox!
PS – It was so nice on here for a week without Trish.

  36. MB

So Pete bounces AND I gotta see the pin head pitch vs King Felix tomorrow? Not good.

  37. Alias

    Good luck Pete.

    You will be missed greatly.

    Shock or Disbelief

    Anger

    Bargaining

    Guilt

    Depression

    Acceptance and Hope

I think I’m still in ‘disbelief’. It’s just a web site, and it shouldn’t be a big deal.

Somehow, though, it is. This isn’t just ‘a website’ — it’s ‘THE website’.

They’ll find a replacement, but you can’t be replaced, Pete.

  39. ray (sox fan)

I haven’t been on here very much this summer because I have been working at place in a national park that does not have easy internet access.

I just the news about Pete moving to the Boston Globe. Often people have asked me why I would spend time on this blog since I am a Sox fan.

I have told them on a number of occasions that there was no equivalent to this blog on the Sox side of things. Now that will change and although I glad that Pete will be covering the Sox, there is part of me that has become very comfortable reading this blog with Pete leading the way.

Congratulations Pete. I hope to still hang out some on this blog because there are some really good people on here.

  40. Ray Clark

Oh God. She’s back. It was such a nice week+ and all of us were all (admit it even if privately) begininning to think how nice it was without her.

  41. Erin

I’ve read the blog for a while now but never felt the need to comment until the previous post. I guess Pete’s announcement inspired me. LOL

I kind of feel like a bad fan tonight-I’m happy there’s no game so I can watch the season premieres of The Office and Community and not have to constantly be checking the score.

I have a purely gut feeling that AJ will do well tomorrow night. I feel like he’s due to go on a good run.

  42. Bunny

Trish, give it a rest with the umps. Get a life. Games are routinely decided by umpires strike zone. Christ, Half the comments during Yankee games are people crying about the strike zone. You dont see that? You only see it when it pertains to the Sox.

  43. 100 pitches of fun...

I can’t stand when Tori Hunter flips his bat after he hits a pitch. It is really annoying to watch.

  44. Darrin

Pete – I have been reading your blog since the beginning. It’s truly the class of the league and will be sorely missed.

Good luck in Boston – at least there will finally be some quality sports blogging out of that town. I’ll be sure to check out your reports (though I expect I will eschew the comments section).

Are we to correct to assume the “two weeks left” comment means that you will start your coverage of the Red Sox this postseason? That’s going to be interesting…

One thing, though – I hope you have the courage of your convictions. Be sure to mention to your loyal Globe readers your prediction of a Yankees World Series championship this season ;)

  45. Rose

Congrats Pete and best of luck. You will be missed.

  46. Wait till the ALDS

    Those were two ridiculous at-bats.

  47. Erica - always OPPC

    Uncle E-

Pete has to check his schedule since he will be moving and stuff. He’ll let me know

  48. Abdababdaserser

I wish Pete the best. He had said, when covering the Mets, that he was a Red Sox fan. That may still be the case, but he kept things fairly objective in his reporting. He has done a great job, far better than the political reporters have done over the decade or more.

Of course, with Pete moving to the dark side, he will not be hoping that the Yankee go to the WS. Its about the story. ;)

  49. able 21

Best of luck Peter and thanks for everything.

Does this mean Shaugnessy is coming to the Journal News :)

  50. Bunny

Ellsbury just homered to salute Pete’s new team!

  51. Doug

Sorry to see you go…you always provided me with information I’d normally have to wait days for the Yankee machine to let out. I hope your replacement is half as good as you. Good luck in Boston with those bums.

  52. m

Oh, boy, Pete. Look what you’re in store for. ^^ You thought we were neurotic.

You are so going to miss us. ;)

  54. no.27

So the Red Sox finally answer the Mark Teixeira signing by getting Peter Abraham to blog for them! Did anyone really think they would end at Smoltz/Penny/Martinez signings?

Seriously though, congrats on the new job. I’ll definitely be checking out your new blog, especially during the 19 games the Yankees and Red Sox play each other. Good luck with the new job.

I’ll take Teixeira over Abraham any day of the week anyway.

  55. Sergio Garcia

Watch it Ray Clark, She will Email Pete and have you banned. Happened to me quite a few times! LOL

  56. GreenBeret7

Scranton has taken a 1-0 lead in game three of the FSL championship. Jackson is 0-1 with a strikeout, a walk and a stolen base. Miranda hit a triple and scored on sac fly by Ransom. Ivan Nova has a 3 inning no-hit shutout going with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts.

Update: after Jackson and miranda walked, Ransom added an RBI single. 2-0 top of the fifth inning.

  57. no.27

    testing?

  58. Jim Pir-one

Looks like the Angels (lack of) effort is back.

They decided they weren’t going to fight to redeem the sloppy play of yesterday and Tuesday and the cheatjobs of yesterday.

  59. matt

Hope Pete’s replacement cuts the Bunny’s head off the way Pete did. Maybe even goes for registration. I know Pete told us the Bunny was banned. So it looks like the Bunny troll managed to sneak back on. Good luck with psychobunny Pete!

  60. GreenBeret7

No hitter for Nova is gone, still a shutout…leadoff 5th inning single.

Plenty of good food in the north end of Boston, That could have been the deciding factor.

  63. matt

    Sergio Garcia? Ray Clark? Bunny?

Tighten you seat belts. Troll city has arrived in force. I guess Pete’s announcement gave the trolls a renewed feeling of power.

  64. Bunny

3-1 for Pete’s new team. When will he change sides?

  65. NY

Hey pete, you been a great source for us yankee fans and no one will ever be able to produce the type of work and dedication you have given us. I have not been a frequent writer on this blog but I have your website as my home page and there is not a day that goes by that I don’t check for your updates and outstanding writing. I hope a Yankee executive or even brian cashmen gives notice to the type of work you produce and some how adds you to the payroll and does not allow this craziness to happen. But If so, please enjoy your family and your new job because all we eventually have is our family and happiness at the end of the day. Thank you pete.

  66. Fire Bud Selig

Damn. Hope the new guy is good.

  67. able 21

Why does it have to be a new guy? Maybe we’ll get a new lady.

  68. Jim Pir-one

    Bunny -

That’s kind of funny, considering every Red Sox sans Tim Wakefield is on the juice and every one argues every pitch that goes against them.

Even Jon Lestah, leans over in disgust when he “believes” he was cheated.

I do not see many Yankees arguing balls and strikes, despite being cheated daily.

  69. Eric

Do the Red Sox EVER lose at home???

  70. m

    matt,

Think Pete has already released the banned? Kind of like the Mariel boatlift?

  71. Bunny

It’s all about being the hot team going into the playoffs, Pete saw this and is joining the team that will win the World Series. Cant blame him, can you?

  72. Bunny

Trish? Trish? Where are you/ Still Emailing Pete on his Blackberry? :-) LOL

  73. no.27

“I hope a Yankee executive or even brian cashmen gives notice to the type of work you produce and some how adds you to the payroll and does not allow this craziness to happen.”

It’d be hard to take a journalist serious that was being paid by the Yankees. Think how objective the Yankee broadcast team is.

  74. Jim Pir-one

    Bunny -

Easy to win 26 world series, oops, im sorry.

The Sox have what, 7*, or is it 5?

Well, it’s easy to win 2 in 90+ years when you get handed everything in a 5 year span.

What a dynasty!!! Getting handed things from other GMs, from umpires, from the commish, and all they could manage was 2 in 5 years?????

Like the Pats, they haven’t won a SB in 4 or 5 years, and there is no “Last night of the Pats Dynasty”!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  75. Ray Clark

Someone must have lopped off her tongue

  76. Scorpio

Whoever takes over this blog, please, PLEASE, please let it not be Ernie (no offense but I need my Yankee news!). Please let it be Sam Borden or Josh. Ernie was a no show for the ENTIRE game thread!

  77. Benny Blanco

    3-2 Angels.

  78. matt

m it sure looks like it. Didn’t Pete tell us that psychoBunny was banned? He couldn’t lop off the loser fast enough! I think that all bets are off at this point.

    ============================

Considering Ernie no longer works for the Journal news, it probably won’t be him

  80. Bunny

Ray Clark find your own stalkee. Trish is all mine. It kills me that she ignores me so I will keep on her until I get her to answer me.

Trish please answer me. Then I’ll leave you alone.

  81. Bronx Jeers

I just logged on and read the big news.

    WOW!

I’m thrilled for Pete but I know this place won’t be the same without him.

So it’s awesome news and yet a bummer at the same time.

  82. Azaz

i think sam should take over josh was good too. I wonder how much of a pay raise pete got.

  83. Ray Clark

I’m a Red Sox fan and I have a different take on the umpire stuff. I’d rather they didn’t hand us games because unless we get the same umpires in the post season all of our weaknesses will be exposed. It’s better that we see what we really have now or we will go down in flames.

  84. GreenBeret7

Bottom of the 6th inning. Scranton leads 2-0 over Durham.

    Nova: 6 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts.

Jackson is 1-2 with a run scored, 1 stolen base, 1 strikeout, 1 walk.

Miranda is 1-2 with a run scored and a triple.

Ransom is 1-2 with a single, a sac fly, a strikeout and 2 RBI.

  85. Ray Clark

Bunny. I think she spoke by impersonating me. LOL

    What a blimp.

  86. m

Why are two red sox fans fighting over trisha? Go eat your own.

  87. Jim Pir-one

I thought Kendry Morales was good?

He looks pretty stinky against the Sox.

  88. Ray Clark

The best part is she can’t stay away from reading this.
    Seething blimp

  89. trisha - OPPC lifetime member who is missing the worry gene

mel, they are really easy to ignore.

    :)

Soon they will disappear from the scene, just like the second-class team they root for.

  90. Ray Clark

Yes, she can’t stay away LOL

  91. Bunny

I know you are my speed Ray! Anyone who says LOL all the time has to have an IQ in double digits.

  92. trisha - OPPC lifetime member who is missing the worry gene

    AWWWW! Tie score!!!

  93. Angel - A tale told by idiots, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing

I may have to make an exception to my rule of not visiting Red Sox blogs and actually visit Pete’s occasionally. Ack…dilemma.

Oh well, at least I’ll behave myself while on there, thanks to many lessons in how not to behave I’ve witnessed here. :-P

  94. YourCaptainHits220

Thank you for telling me this now. Thats awesome I have to get my Yankee news from a guy who is now a Red Sox. In this biggest stretch this team has had since 2000 you are now telling me this. Great thats awesome. I have lost all respect now and will not be going to this site anymore. I guess I should start getting my Yankee News from the newspaper, not named the Journal. Thanks for nothing

  95. Corn Chips

    Pete,

Please don’t play this joke on us. Did Peter Gammons put in a good word for you at the Globe?

  96. Yanks_Fan

    Angels win

  97. Nicole

oh wow, i feel lost. Pete, I’ve been reading your blog since 07 every single day every single post. i’ve never commented but i love this blog. I look forward to your insight and while i may not always agree I love to hear your opinions. I quote you to my friends and family and i’m not quite sure where i am going to turn now. This blog has become an old reliable in my life. I come to my computer, check facebook, this blog, then rtsports for fantasy football. Obviously i understand why you are leaving and i wish you the best of luck but BOSTON?! ah! As much as i love your wittiness (is that a word) and sense of humor i can’t read a red sox blog! Who’s going to embrace GGBG the way u did? No one.
i’m sad now and out of all times this is going to be a special postseason! WHAT AM I GOING TO DO? How am i going to look like i know so much about the yankees without your cliff notes?!?
ah! all kidding aside, congratulations, good luck, thanks for the knowledge and entertainment.. i’ve enjoyed having you as an everyday factor in my life these past 2 years. I feel like we just broke up. :(

  98. Zach

As a former boss once said, “No one is irreplaceable.” Who’s on deck to pick up the blog duties here? Your subs have been great, too.

    Good luck in Boston.
