Now it’s 10 for both division and home-field (assuming Angels 2nd best record).
I saw some people yesterday saying that Magic# for Division was 11 and for HFAdv. was 10, which is incorrect. So long as the Magic# vs. Red Sox > M# vs. Angels, the M# for home-field and division are the same.
Your magic # isnt 10 traitor … I keed I keed, best of luck and thanks for doing this all of these years, I never rreally posted, but it was a hell of a good read.
Obviously it’s a reference to the Yankees until that point, but I still think it’s funny that someday the park will have 2 “Best Shortstops the Yankees ever had.”
Good luck, Pete! I’ve really enjoyed reading your stories and updates on the blog. Wish you the best in Boston. I hope the Red Sox fans will appreciate you as much as we do!
The Red Sox fans will love that you’re a big Pats fan. You’re really gonna have fun if you’re blogging there. I dont blame you for blogging for your childhood team and covering them. It’s kind of got a romanticized feel to it, you going to work to cover the Red Sox. Journalism is your passion and you’re going to be in a great place for a journalist: great stories, drama, and very, very passionate fans at a popular news outlet.

For those that missed the perfect game action in Philly the other night. Click on the big video and watch the little beauty in the pink hat. What a little doll. This is baseball as it’s meant to be.
GB – I loved it!!! I especially loved it when the dad hugged the little girl even though she threw the ball back. How cool that she actually knew enough to throw it on the field (so she hasn’t yet learned when you throw it back.)
I need some guidance from my fellow Yankee and Bruce fans. Do I go to Game 2 of the ALDS or Bruce’s last show ever at Giants Stadium on 10/9. I’m torn.
I’m not a Bruce fan but you obviously are if you’re asking that question. If it was between Game 2 of the ALDS and seeing my favorite group perform for the last time at a local venue, I’d go see my favorite group. If it were the potential last game of the world series, potential last game of the ALCS, or the potential last game of a DLS, I’d go to the game.

Priceless. And precious.
————————————————————
apparently, she thought sehe had done something wrong when her dad and the crowd groaned. That’s what he was telling, that she didn’t do anything wrong.
The people from the Phils front office all got the same idea, including Rubin Amaro the GM and ran to take the little doll a baseball. Her mother, who was in the picture and was afraid the ball hit somebody.

this might be a dumb question but..if the Yankees win and Red Sox lose tomorrow..would the magic # be 8? (Skippin 9)
****
Sorry, but I wouldn’t give up going to a Yankee post season game regardless of which game number it is. A concert is fine, but other than the venue they are generally the same.
One never knows when something historic can happen in a game… perfect game… multi home run game… no hitter… and getting to be there for it would be tough to match.
Pete, I just read the news. I have really enjoyed this blog and your coverage of the Yankees. Whoever inherits this has a thankless task ahead of them.
The Globe should count their lucky stars because they are getting the best baseball writer they have had since Peter Gammons sold his sole!

I hope you read this. Before you commit to that Boston job, think about what you’ve created here. It’s an amazing site, and if you think it isn’t a lot about your effort, go see how many commenters there are on the LoHud Mets blog. Newspapers are a dying business. The internet is the place to be. What you should consider doing is taking this blog privately — my guess is that everyone and more will come along with you — and selling your own ads, etc. That’s where the money is, and the community you’ve created, etc.
Think about it. This is really a rare, rare opportunity. The Boston paper needs you more than you need them.
So is this blog going to die–right before the playoffs begin with the strongest Yankee team in a decade?
Let’s hope not, but if it does, SJ can you tell us where you will post next if it does? I kind of like Feinsand, who sounds like covering the Yankees was his boyhood dream.
Say what you want about Micheal Kay, but could you ever see him aspiring to be Don Orsillo?
We want our beat writers and announcers to be homers–that’s the idea.
At least one mystery may be solved–Pete didn’t like ARod because he didn’t go to the Sox, maybe?
I’m still shocked that Fuentes was able to close them out tonight. It just shows you how meaningless the save category is when this guy leads the league.
There’s a player that has become an after thought in Yankeeland. Heck, he only won 7 rings, had 7 seaons of 20+ hrs and 100rbis and has the highest single season BA of any catcher ever. Plus, he taught Yogi how to catch.
Sorry for the slight bitterness in a previous post, but I have to agree with the other posters that this blog is one of the best, if not the best, Yankee sites around. I am sorry to see it change.
Any Yankee fanatic knows about it and has read it.
Good luck on your new job–you do deserve it, and the Boston fans really do need your help.
Will at least you fess up that you do love the Sox? You can’t love the Pats that much without being a Sox nut.
You’re welcome. 3 is such a great age. No more diapers, less gear to go anywhere, they can get themselves into a car seat and trust that you know everything.
Wow. Just read the news. A really sad day for Yankee fans. Been reading and posting almost since day one.(Changed usernames a few times) This is the only place I ever turn for insider Yankee news. Don’t know where everyone is going in two weeks…but definitely everyone give a shout out where you’re heading to get your news and post. Pete…man good for you man….but horrible news for us.
I want the truth… we all deserve it… pete did you grow up a sox fan? your family is from the area and you’re already a pats fan so just shoot us straight.
What’s wrong with a beat writer actually liking the team he’s covering?
Is that taboo or something?
I think most blog readers want an objective Strong minded fan!
All hail the new Cesar! ( whomever it may be)
Whew. Looks like the Scranton Yankees just got out of a bases-loaded jam. Maybe they’ll take advantage of the chance to win it in the bottom of the 11th.
While I appreciate Pete’s information that he has provided throughout the last few years, I can’t help but feel sad at this point. To see a lifelong Red Sox fan, use the team he hates and the market he reviles to further his career and acquire his dream job, all the while helping to mold Yankee fans’ opinions with his biased commentary on such players as A-rod, Clemens, Girardi and others makes me feel dirty. I wish Pete had been up front from the very beginning and given the wonderful people on this blog the chance to evaluate the information he used before they took his word as gospel. You can bet when Pete starts covering the Red Sox for the Globe, there won’t be any digs at David Ortiz for his steroid use or attacks on Kevin Youkilis for his whining. He will do what he was born to do, continue to help create the media driven monster that has become the Boston Red Sox. I can only hope that everyone here now sees the light and can parse through the constant digs at our players to understand where it was all coming from. At least now, we might have the chance to get an actual Yankee fan run this blog and not have to deal with the constant attacks on our team, our front office and our owners.
That’s right. Maybe she’ll storm the press box at Angular Stadium in Anaheim of Orange County, California, USA, Milky Way to try to convince Pete to stay.
Top 11th: Back to back two-out walks have loaded the bases here in the 11th, and Eric Wordekemper is in to try to clean up the mess. He has two outs. I honestly thought Kevin Whelan struck out Matt Joyce to end the inning twice, but the home plate ump called those pitches ball three and ball four.
*********
Apparently not knowing a strike from a ball happens in AAA too.
I hope this blog remains, even with someone else leading the way. This place is like a community – a place I can hang out even when there is no baseball going on.

————————————————————
Yeah, he always seems to be the 3rd or 4th Yankee catcher is the “best” discussions. .313 lifetime average, 200 homers, 1200 RBI and just short of 2000 hits, 400 doubles and 1,000 runs scored because of the war. Have only read and seen videos, but, like Posada, he was the true captain on those teams. I’d put him in a flat footed tie with Berra. Take a look at the walks and strikeouts.

good to see crappy umpires are being cultivated to take over in the futre.
Bottom 11th: Chris Stewart very nearly homered to left. Instead it was a lead-off double, with Eduardo Nunez coming in to pinch run. Top of the order due up.

age 3 and no diapers? That makes my mouth water. Only 2 years and 10 months to go. Or do I have to multiply that by 2 and make it 5 years and 8 months?
I just noticed Pete removed my comment. So much for the First amendment, Here it is again. Wake up folks. See below.
Pete,
Good for you but please dont be disingenuous about your move. You have hit the big time (in your world) going to the globe from where you are now and I’m sure you are psyched…and justifiably so. But please don’t talk about how you want to be close to your family and how tough of a decision this is. It is a no-brainer decision from a career perspective. Of course you would say yes. These folks are not dumb.
I read from time to time and , though I’ve never commented, it has been fascinating to watch the commenters on this blog propel you to the next level. Though you have done a decent blog, I believe its success is primarily a result of great Yankees fans participating so enthusiastically because they finally have a workable forum to exchange ideas.
So best of luck to you, but if you are covering the Sox in two weeks, you should do the right thing and close down shop now. Otherwise, this is all a little silly.

Wow, just wow.
I do have to say that the whole Selina Roberts coverage in this blog did have a certain “wool over the eyes” thing to it, didn’t it?
Same thing with the exposure of David Ortiz…hmmm.
Nonetheless, I wish Pete good luck covering his hometown team. This blog has been great–even though a Sox fan started it.
Well, I guess the sun will still come up tomorrow morning, but it may be wearing a frown. Thanks, Pete, for all the good writing, constant updates, wry humor and dedication to the job. Now if Kanye would just get in your face and tell that this is one of the best jobs of all time!
I’m sure it will be great to be nearer to your family (and the Pats), right? What if we all pitched in and moved your parents to the NY area?
Jacob – well said, I agree with you 100%. I can honestly say I never thought Pete was a Yankee fan, but I suspected the cheap shots on Arod and Girardi came more from being a jaded writer who may have been slighted by certain players not a Red Sox fan trying to get under the skin of Yankee fans. Pete – please come clean are you a Red Sox fan? There is not reason to keep a secret at this point.
Gosh, watching the highlights of tonight’s Red Sox-Angels game: Beckett just continues to hang pitches.
He really looks mediocre – no movement at all to him. Looked lousy in postseason last year, too. Boston is very fragile from SR standpoint, and we know how their offense wilts on the road.
Angels have that rotten bullpen, but I’ll take the Angels in that first-round matchup.
If the Yankees sweep the next three game series they clinch a playoff spot regardless of what Texas does. It would be mathematically impossible for both Texas and LA to finish ahead of them because they play each other 6 more times.
Pete,
Congratulations on the job with the Globe. I am very sorry to see you go Pete. This is a great site mostly becasue you do such a great job. You will be missed.

Let’s make Pete feel good about his decision by telling him why he’s making the right move.

Old BFFs- Feinsand and Kepner…… New BFF- Gammons and Shaugnessy

Joking or not, I’ve never had a desire to read how the other side lives or thinks. I get enough of that garbage on here. What’s worse is having to sort through the idiot trolls that pretend to be Yankee fans…generally by being totally obnoxious and transparent, some with their constant whining and others by their idiotic conspiracy theories that make it look like all yankee fans think like that.
FWIW, River ave blues is a more serious baseball forum.
This one can be great, but veers off too often with people talking about what Minka Kelly wore to the game, etc. You have to really scroll down sometimes to even find a baseball-related comment.
It is my opinion that Pete should immediately step down from his job as Yankee beat writere and also as blog administrator. It is clear that since he will begin working for the Globe in just 2 weeks, conveniently right around the beginning of the playoffs, that to continue to cover the Yankees would be a conflict of interest. A lot of conversations occur between players and the media that are off the record and who knows what kind of information could be disseminated by Pete to his new employers who obviously have a decided interest in helping the team they cover succeed. I can only hope that Pete would do the honorable thing and resign so he will not be forced into such an ethically precarious position. But knowing he is a Sawx fan, I think we all know what the end result will be.

1) This has been, and still is for the moment, Pete’s Blog. He can post whatever he wants, and he can delete any comments he chooses. Because it’s a BLOG.
2) The point of Pete’s Blog was to create a community for Yankee fans and give them inside information they would never otherwise get. He did that and did a great job. Nowhere did he ever say he was a Yankee fan himself, nor was he required to be.
3) I believe it’s silly that you think the right thing to do is close down this blog (that so many people enjoy) RIGHT NOW, instead of allowing a transition time to find someone else to take it over. I also think it’s silly that you feel so self-important, you felt the need to post this opinion twice.

Darrin you’re a moron the man is trying to make a buck why wouldn’t he predict the Yankees to win? It’s a Yankee blog! Wow man are you okay? Don’t hurt yourself.
Why are people obsessing and/or questioning Pete’s fanhood. It’s obvious he grew up a Red Sox fan. He did quite the job being objective. I can’t believe you guys are debating whether or not he’s a Red Sox fan.
I actually don’t care if Pete is a Red Sox fan or not – it hasn’t affected my enjoyment of this blog one bit. And remember – not every Red Sox fan is a rabid, mouthbreathing psychopath from SoSH.

I was sitting next to the dugout. J Rod was our best hitter. He has has some very interesting (quirky) routines.
======
Isn’t J-Rod 30? All they had to do was give them one decent reliever and Duncan, and they might have won the thing. Ah, well. The big club’s needs come first.
The truth is I never even liked pete’s blog, his writing was poor his jokes were bad and he was a baby web you challenged his ideas. I could care less if he was or is a sox fan because while they’re getting quantity in posting up there they aren’t getting quality. Best blog I ever read was mark feinsands MLB.com Yankee blog before he went to the dailynews, I could care less if he grew up a Yankee fan because he knew what he was talking about. The truth is everyone fell in love with this blog because pete posted so much it had nothing to do with his insight (or lack thereof) because if feinsands or kepner had enough time to post that much we would have Bren reading them (real reporters) for years. Sorry pete won’t miss ya.
Mel, there’s really nobody on the scranton team worth bringing up, unless it’s Russo and Jackson to just sit on the bench and watch, without activating them.
That’s fair enough. But it was Pete with the frequent updates. I don’t think the Journal News required him to check in with us from every airport and tell us what was on his iPod. That’s love of the blog
Now are we really going to find out what he thinks about the Yankees…and us? That is the real question. He’s a pro, so my guess is likely not.
m, people are obsessing about it for many reasons.
I guess some us wanted some authenticity.
Someone who created the best Yankee blog on the net–a Sox fan, and a Gammons lover? Would you as a die hard Yankee fan respected his opinion, or come over to read his blog? You would wonder about the sincerity of his every word–and to a news guy, credibility is everything.
So some of us may feel a bit used, here, yes. Sure, we didn’t have to post, but maybe if we had known the conditions, we may not have posted.
Since Miranda is actually on the 40-man, and has serious LH pop, and can actually hit breaking pitches, and can take advantage of our park off the bench, I would think we’d see him. On the other hand, he’s a guy that has no position, and can only PH.
I’ve been sitting on this news for hours and only just had a chance to get online and post.
This blog is the first website I launch when I start my laptop, get to work and get home – I read along all day and probably read 80-90% of the comments posted (and definitely all the posts).
I checked in when I landed and had to read the post 4 times to make sure it was true and that it was 2 weeks left and not 2 months.
I wish you all the best, Pete and lots of luck and success in Boston.
I hope whoever picks the blog up is even half-way crazy with updating posts and keeping us informed on all the behind the scenes/thought-provoking stuff…especially with the first fun play-offs in a long time coming up.
I hope the readers who post here will stay and continue to engage in the (mostly) lively and interesting debates.
I feel sad for us knowing things won’t be the same, but I guess change in inevitable.
Here’s hoping your post season last just a little less long than ours does
IMO, this site’s success is a testament to the dilegence and work that Pete Abe provided. There are baseball fans here other than Yankee fans. Yankee fans are the target audience and they are the majority (obviously) however I believe it is/was Pete’s tireless work that brought people here.
I take exception to your assertion that Pete handled his job even handedly. Every insult intended for A-rod, every attack on Girardi for not being truthful and even his claim of being lied to by Cashman that he wouldnt acquire Teixeira are direct contradictions to that belief. The problem is many Yankee fans actually believe every word Pete every typed. And that bothers me because there are a lot of fans out there that get the impression that Alex is a distraction, Girardi is a control freak and Cashman is a liar because of Pete’s reporting. We now know that Pete’s information may or may not have been slanted against certain members of the organization. But he can never rescind all those opinions he helped form. And that is sad.
The Alex stuff was over the top but part of the pack mentality of most writers.
The “get ARod” thing was too transparent and widespread.
Certainly, Pete was called out on it by many of us, repeatedly, so the notion that people were misguided is nonsense. As for the people who can’t think for themselves, well, that’s their misfortune.
The problem with Kennedy being brought up is that he can’t start unless you’re willing to take three innings. If he relieves, it will only be every 5 days.
Why did I stop here? I don’t even remember how I found this site. But I saw that a) it didn’t have some guy named Johah Falcon b) was frequently updated c) was lively with a great cast of characters d) Pete was a funny guy.
I suppose if Pete went to another blog in the NY market, we’d all follow him like blind sheep. But since he’s basically going behind enemy lines, I think it’s safe to say that we won’t follow him. Pete’s a good guy, but I’ve read some of what Sox fans have to say. And I don’t want to witness Pete taking shots at any of our players to ingratiate himself with the locals (j/k). The only problem now, is Pete’s such a good writer that the spawn will only multiply on his blog.
It’s about 2 p.m. here in Tampa, the Yankees have just finished their workout at Legends Field. Seems like a good time to launch my blog. Welcome to the LoHud Yankees Blog. Fueled by delicious Diet Coke and the 2,746 songs in my iPod, the aim will be to update this space once or twice a day with news and views about the Yankees and occasionally whatever else might be going on in baseball. Don’t come here looking to find out who’s pitching tomorrow or what George Steinbrenner had to say about a losing streak. That stuff will be in the sports section of the Journal News and elsewhere on LoHud.com. What we will try to do here is give you an inside look at the Yankees and a little taste of what goes into finding that out. If this is informative, great. Hopefully it will be entertaining, too. This project got started back in December when I blogged the winter meetings in Dallas. The response was excellent so it made sense to try again. At least I’ve convinced my bosses of that. Yankees baseball is a very serious matter. Why else would two elderly security guards sort through my backpack every morning? And you can bet those no-good Devil Rays don’t have hundreds of orange traffic cones in their parking lot for no apparent reason. But we’ll try and have some fun along the way. Once the regular season starts, check this space before games for starting lineups, updates from the clubhouse and other tidbits. The idea will be to get you information as quickly as possible. Have a question about the Yankees, the blog or what I’m writing in the paper? Drop me at an email at pabraham@lohud.com and I’ll answer them in this space from time to time, at least as often as Carl Pavano pitches. Opinions are welcome, too. Bring it on. All I ask is that you don’t threaten me with bodily harm. That’s why I have Gary Sheffield in my life. Check back later this afternoon, we’ll have more then.

Erica -
Absolutely. He likely was not required to update us Yankees fans every 10 minutes.
But, and I certainly will not fault him for this, is it possible that he worked so hard to better his career and move on to bigger and better things? To get a higher salary or even cover his beloved Red Sox?
He certainly knew he had a forum of the most loyal followers there could ever be (Yankees fans).
****
It is possible. But even if he did. I still would never fault him for it. I work really hard every day at a job I hate, and always give 100% of everything I do, because I am a hard worker who takes pride in her work. And if I do the best possible job now, maybe it will open doors for me down the road in a job environment I will be happier in.
Pete provided a place for us to form a community and share our opinions and ideas. And he was really good at it. And if being good at his job helps him reach a better place in hsi life… who am I to judge that?

Thank you, thank you, folks, I really couldn’t have done it without my trusty crystal ball.
Anytime you need another prediction, you just call on #25.
Oh, and Pete, I will miss you, but since you will be covering my beloved Patriots, you won’t be far from my orbit. Congratulations on the new position!
Enough with the moronic Pete bashing posts. Seriously.
Who gives a rats behind who he grew up rooting for?
First and foremost he is a reporter. And a damn good one.
His blog gave insight and timely Yankee news. Where else did you get Girardi pre-game audio? The minor league updates? The chance to send in questions for player interviews?
Did I agree with every Pete opinion? No.
Did I enjoy his sense of humor. Absolutely.
Why don’t you go ask your employer or your boss who they root for? Go ask your banker who they root for. Do you have all your savings in the hands of a Sox fan? How about your grocer? The guy you bought your car from?
Hell, maybe your dog and cat secretly watch NESN Red Sox reruns while you are away at work. Paranoia runs deep.

Exactly Jacob. He gave information about Joe, Alex, Cashman that some others now believe themselves.
Who knows if that information was biased?
——————————————————————
Jim, you’re being silly.
If Pete were a Yankee fan, would he still not be questioned for being biased? Maybe biased in a way you prefer, but still biased?
See if you can see a pattern here:
Pete would get on Joe Girardi when he didn’t tell the truth.
Pete would get on A-Rod when he didn’t tell the truth.
Pete would get on Cashman… you guessed it… when he didn’t tell the truth.
Pete’s job was to report facts. He didn’t like reporting false information. It affects his journalistic integrity, something you may have noticed he values more than anything else if you pay attention.
His job was not to kiss up to Yankee fans. It was to report the facts as he saw them.
I would suppose that they may want him to rest for a couple of weeks before he heads to the Arizona Fall League. They might, but, I just don’t see a reason for it.
=====
He was hoping to pitch a little more, but it all depends on where they think he’s at, arm-wise, health-wise.
While I haven’t posted alot, I check in frequently. Other sites can’t compare. My first thought was “Where is everybody going to go?” I hope that Pete’s replacement can live up to what this blog has become and that the community continues.
I dont think anyone is going to come on to this blog and work as hard every day and night as Pete did.
However, I knew from the beginning he was a Sox fan because of SOME of his slanted writing, not all, but some. If he wrote slanted pieces because of his fandom of the Sox, then that is a problem.
But like I said, we’ll see how he treats members of the Red Sox like Papi and Theo.

Pete – Me and my dad have been loyal readers for nearly 2 years. We admire your work and always love to find out the latest news — coupled with your great sense of humor– every day on this blog. We wish you the best at your new job, and totally respect your decision.
But there’s one thing. We’re offended that you’re leaving in the middle of the season, this great season that you have said many times yourself seems like something special. You owe the world to your fans and blog readers, and I think that leaving in the middle of the World Series run is completely letting us down. I think I’m speaking for all the fans when we say we are disappointed in your inability to complete the season at least — 1 more month — here in New York.
Thank you for all of the hard work you put in each day. Over the past few years, I’ve read your blog from home, work and even on my blackberry pretty much on a daily basis. As Yankee fans, we’ve been truly lucky to have a blog to turn to with someone as dedicated as you. I think we’re going to miss this blog most after the season, when we could turn here on a random day in January and probably find an update or two on the Yanks and especially in Spring Training where Pete would provide something for us to read even while he was in the car between cities. This blog is truly unique like that.
I remember a press conference the Yankees held, I think last year (probably in ST when Pettitte admitted the PEDs), I heard someone from the Yankees in the background invite Pete to ask his second (or third) question and the reasoning was “we like him”. Pretty much sums up that when you want the most reliable information on the happenings with the Yankees, you read this blog. It’s also why every other blog out there puts a cite to this blog for news updates.
Thanks for everything Pete. I’ll miss your unique contribution to my following of the Yankees.
as this is the only sports blog i ever read, i WILL miss the frequent updates and the self evident dedication to the job, but i WILL NOT miss the personal biases, the incendiary posts and the laissez faire attitude about the detritus who clog the blog! i wish pete good fortune, and i hope that lohud continues this blog properly. hint – hire chad jennings as the replacemrnt beat reporter/blogger. he’ll work cheap and will certainly improve his posting habits
“However, I knew from the beginning he was a Sox fan because of SOME of his slanted writing, not all, but some.”
What’s the point? Do you want some sort of prize?
Sometimes, it’s a writer’s job to criticize the team. Pete wasn’t a PR guy, he was a beat reporter. He’s not Jason Zillo or Howard Rubenstein.
I’m sure he’ll try to bring his success on this blog over to his new blog, which means that he’ll inevitable criticize the Red Sox when they deserve it.
* Lastly, I want to congratulate my good friend Peter Abraham on his new job with the Boston Globe. Pete and I have spent the past four years on the beat together, and while he is a tremendous writer and reporter – and of course, the blogfather – he is an even better friend. This long grind we know as baseball season won’t be nearly the same without him, but at least I know we’ll be covering at least 18 games a year in the same press box. Red Sox Nation is getting itself one hell of a reporter, one who will surely take over the Boston blogosphere with the same aggressiveness he used to dominate that area here.
Pete’s pending departure for Boston leaves a huge hole in the Yankees blogosphere, one that Blogging the Bombers plans to do its best to fill. When I came to the Daily News three years ago, I made the decision to use this space mostly for analysis, since it made little sense to try competing with Pete’s blog by posting the same exact news and notes.
Now that Pete is moving north, we – that’s me, McCarron, Peter Botte and whoever else covers the Yankees on a given day for the Daily News – are going to do our best to provide you with in-depth coverage of the Yankees. It may take a while to figure out some things like posting audio, etc, but we’ll get there. Expect full-blown blog coverage by the time the postseason starts. We will welcome all feedback and do what we can to make this your one-stop-shopping for all things Yankees.

I would suppose that they may want him to rest for a couple of weeks before he heads to the Arizona Fall League. They might, but, I just don’t see a reason for it.
=====
He was hoping to pitch a little more, but it all depends on where they think he’s at, arm-wise, health-wise.
————————————————————
He had 4 starts and 22 innings….before the playoffs, so, it looks like they’re giving him about 5 innings agame, but, they shut him down last night after 4. Not sure if that was by design, or, if something caused an early departure. I assume that he’s made 2 plaoff starts, so, he should be around 28-30 innings. Those are easy innings compared to any MLB appearances. I’d like to see if he can get big league outs before next year, though.

This is the beginning of the end of this once fun blog. I couldn’t agree more that Pete should gave waited unroll the offseason to play this card on us.
This is the beginning of the end of this once fun blog. I couldn’t agree more that Pete should have waited untill the offseason to play this card on us.
“How exactly did Jim Pir-one take over this blog?”
That’s something I’ve really been wondering mysel.
I stopped by tonight to see how people were remembering Pete and his work only to find more nonsense.
It’s unfortunate that in such a terrific season so much of this blog’s activities were subsumed by utter stupidity, namely Posadagate and conspiracy theories.
It’s been one of the reasons why I just haven’t been posting as much.
I would think most people would care, because everybody on this site comes here for unbiased information.
————————————————–
Gotta disagree with you again.
Everybody doesn’t come on here for unbiased information. Most people come on here for Inside Information. A good portion prefers Pro-Yankee biased information, which is why so many are complaining right now.
“If it turns out that readers’ views were skewed and the information was biased, then it matters a heck of a lot.”
I got news for you. This is a Yankees blog full of Yankee fans. It’s already skewed.
Successful sports blogs don’t get that way by towing the company line and trying to brainwash people. The best ones stir up debate and get people involved in the conversation. Obviously, Pete did that.
The nasty comments need to stop you guys. Can we be classy about this?
He put a crap load of work into maintaining this blog, giving Yankee fans constant updates about our favorite team. Sure, his love for Jason Giambi was interesting to say the least (and disdain for A-Rod), but what fun is a blog if the person writing it doesn’t add a little spark to incite the crowd.
If you dont like him, that’s great. But do you need to waste your time writing a comment like that? I dont recall anyone being forced to read a blog. I assume since you are opening the site, that you come here looking for something.
Some of you will realize what you had once it is gone. Go find another beat writer who dedicates as much time to updating the fans. I like Mark and Tyler, but their blogs pretty much are rarely updated and didnt give up half the stuff this one did.

And that’s sad, CB. Your posts and a few others are the reason I began reading the comments section in the first place.
This blog is/was good for 1 major thing- the inside info that Pete was privy to only cause he was a writer and a member of the press; things such as lineups, injuries, transactions/team updates…when it came to personal opinion or his input on the team, in my opinion, he was usually not that good or as i like to call it- Lost! that being said, lets hope the replacement keeps providing the thigs listed on a regular basis

I did not take over anything on this blog.
Others started questioning his writing, and seeing as how I have an open mind actually will change my opinions based on what others say sometimes, I agreed with other people.
———————————————————–
It’s obvious that you have an open mind. The door as been left open so long, that any intelligence you had, escaped to the woods.
I will tell you this much, his love of Giambi didnt sway me. If your a true fan of someone, what a beat writer has to say shouldnt affect you much. I have never cared for A-Rod and if I had a blog where I was honest with how I felt and my readers, who knows what I would write about him.
I clearly have a love for AL Leiter and dont hide that. But its my blog, so I pretty much can write what I want. If you have an opinion, then go write your own blog.
As for him bashing A-Rod, find me an article he wrote in the Journal News and you will have something. I think unprofessionalism as a writer go for what you put in the paper, not on a blog.
Aside from this, it’s too bad the Scranton Yankees were eliminated. It would have been impressive to see them achieve it this year as their entire team has pretty much been dismantled. Regardless, a good season and it should be interesting to see Austin Jackson, and possible Kroenke at some point in the future.
I really don’t think Pete changed Yankee fans feelings about Arod. Alex was always going to be fighting an uphill battle here. He’s considered to be one of the best in the game and he earns the biggest paycheck. If he doesn’t perform up to those standards, perceived or real, he was going to have a hard time winning over the fans.
And, it seems to me people were calling him out on it anyway, so how was he affecting people’s opinions?
Seriously bummed about Pete leaving. He’s the best at what he does. Here’s hoping the Journal keeps this blog alive. But it won’t be the same. Will the new moderator have Pete’s contacts? Pete made the offseason almost as much fun as the playing season. It’s a huge loss for Yankee fans.
” i wouldn’t be surprised if more than a few of us visit his new blog if he does one with the globe.”
You can bet on that. A wise man once said it’s best to keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. We want all the inside poop on our enemies in Beantown and no one gets that info better than Pete.Plus, it’ll be a hoot to “interact” with the the fools who call themselve “Nation”. lol
No need to defend yourself. You have every right to post your opinion.
But the vicious cycle of comments between you and those you’re trying to reason with is driving us nuts.
You have some valid points, not everyone disagrees.
And I do agree, that in addition to the fresh content, we come here because of the community that Pete helped cultivate. It’s like Cheers. Where everyone knows your name. Wait, was that bar in Boston? Sorry about that, Jim.
I for will will make this the last time I look at this site until Pete is gone. I really have no interest in what he will write about the Yankees. I’m sure I can find the information elsewhere and the Pete’s opinions do not interest me. Pete good luck covering the Sox – I hope they lose in the first round to the Angels.
Here’s an exerpt of a post from The Globe’s site tonight:
You couldn’t hire a Red Sox blogger? Someone who lives and dies with the Sox? Someone who spends their money on server space to write about their love of the Sox? No Sox blogger was better than that fat Yankee fan? I will NEVER read a word he writes for you.
Just got up here in France and am stunned by the news of Pete’s departure. I knew he’d be moving up the food chain, since the talent is so huge, but I was hoping it would be in New York. It would have been easier after the season, I guess. On the other hand, living so far from my own aging parents, I certainly understand the need to be close.
Pete, You’ve helped bridge the distance to home and team for me and have given my son in New York and me something to chuckle about across the seas. You’ll be missed!
“But it is the Yankees fans who have created this atmosphere, not Pete.”
————————————————
Exactly. Just as the Oscars that Slumdog Millionaire won should have been presented to the people who watched the movie instead. I mean, all Danny Boyle did was actually make the film. It would have been nothing if we, the fans, hadn’t actually gone to see it. We really made that movie.
Yes, I know how ridiculous that post is, especially the comment about Pete’s weight. I love the Yanks-Sox rivalry but could live without the craziness and lapses of civility. On both sides.
You don’t need to be a Red Sox fan to write something bad about A-Rod. Every writer in NY as written bad things about him, and he’s deserved a lot of it. If I’m wrong, name a beat writer that hasn’t. On top of that, this is a blog, which is much more informal than a newspaper article and it’s never been advertised as opinion free. How do you think he would have gotten 1 million posts without any opinion??
More importantly though, the idea that all you need is a press pass to make a blog like this is ridiculous. There are tons of press passes, but no other Yankee blog comes close to this. Think about it.
A few months ago, Yogi Berra, the greatest living Yankee, answered questions from this blog.
You think any jerk with a press pass is going to make that happen? WRONG. And that’s just one example of the type of access that this blog offers that no other blog does.
I barely use any other sources to get Yankee information besides this blog. 1, the information is always here first, and 2, Pete has a better feel for this team and its fans than any of the other writers. He almost has to just by constantly gathering information from the team to make the 5 or so posts he makes each day and then reading as many of the comments as he seems to read.
From Feinsands blog:
Pete’s pending departure for Boston leaves a huge hole in the Yankees blogosphere, one that Blogging the Bombers plans to do its best to fill. wow pete. i just got home (3am) and read about you leaving.
i found your blog while ‘studying’ at the umass/amherst library one night. it wasnt easy being a yankees fan in massachusetts but you kept me closer than i ever was.
Farewell, Pete and best of luck at your new job at the Globe. None of us likes changes in our cages but we will get used to it in time. The disruption so close to the playoffs is upsetting. I wish the Globe could have waited for the end of the World Series so you could have made a shocking announcement like A rod’s
But you realize they wanted to steal Pete at just the right time, right? The Boston Globe was smart. But oh, Pete, if would have been easier saying good-bye AFTER the Yanks won the World Championship.
I wish PA the very best. How could anyone blame the guy for going home to his family on the staff of the Globe? Has to be a lifelong dream fullfilled. A diehard Pats fan. He is a talented writer without question, I will continue to follow him at the Boston Globe. His Christmas parodies were always my favorites. Thanks for everything Peter, you will be missed dearly.
On my way Seattle to visit the old man and catch a Yankee game. Nothing better than that is there?
I’ll miss Pete terribly but we got to cut the new guy some slack whoever it is. If he’s coming from within The Journal News one would think that Sam Borden’s got a good shot. He’s funny so that might make things easier.
Anyway I hope we can keep this site going in the interim.
Wow, I can’t believe Pete is leaving. I rarely post, except when Yankee farm teams come to Lakewood, but I check the blog all the time. Pete has developed a great method of communication and information dissemination that I could never have imagined when I used to go to WaWa as a kid and pick up the Daily News and NY Post for Yankee coverage since the Asbury Park Press didn’t cut it. This blog has also led me to others…
The fact that people are questioning his allegiance or fandom are absolutely insane and so completely myopic. The last time I checked the Boston Globe is a little better known in the newspaper industry than the Lower Hudson Valley Journal. Sorry, but true. He is making a career move that could be a springboard to better things. He deserves it. His tireless coverage of the Yankees has made all of feel as if we were in the clubhouse with the team. Additionally, every email I sent him was returned with a reply.
Congratulations Pete, you will definitely be missed. As many have said before the next person has large shoes to fill. Good luck at the Globe.
First, congratulations to Pete for a big step forward in his career. He has done an excellent job on this blog and beat reporting and it is well deserved.
Second, it seems to me that the disparity in opinions about Pete’s departure probably is divided between those of us who have a life and career and those who don’t (like Jim Pir-one, of course). What difference does it make if one writer moves from a New York to Boston newspaper, is that going to change anything about baseball?
This whole Yankees-Red Sox rivalry is something that was mostly manufactured by the media anyway, it barely existed before the Torre years since both teams were rarely in contention at the same time until then. 1978 was an anomaly and affected Sox fans far more than Yankees fans, we were much more caught up in the whole George-Reggie-Billy stuff than in how the Sox were doing.
Some of you seem to think that all Sox fans are mortal enemies and that is the farthest thing from the truth imaginable. I have two close friends from Rhode Island who are die in the wool Sox fans and we have never had an argument over baseball, we just root for different teams and congratulate the other when our teams do well.
I understand that many of the posters here are either very young or just need a place to vent but it just gets out of control way too often. There are some excellent baseball minds on this blog and most of you would do far better educating yourselves by watching the games and understanding why things happen rather than criticizing moves and events because it doesn’t match up with your very limited understanding.
That all being said, the Yankees will not suffer from the loss of Pete, it will not cause a single loss on the field. This has been a great season to be a Yankees fan, it’s just too bad for many of you that you allow the Sox and your fear of sucess get in the way of enjoying something special.
Good luck up in Beantown, stay true to the reporter you have presented yourself as here. As you have said in the past you do not root for the team you cover, but for a good story. I wish you all the luck.
If you can learn as much from Bob Ryan…because IMO he may be the only sane person up there. Also, whatever you do don’t become one of those ball washing phonies on WEEI.
I will miss coming to this blog 10-15 times a day, for a while I thought I had an addiction, maybe now I will be able to get some of the things done, that I had been putting off.
I will also miss reading the comments and all of the off-season things Pete comes up with.
Good luck Pete…you will surely be missed.
One last thing, how can you be leaving before the playoffs????
I will never understand the lunacy of some people when it comes to certain things.
Pete put his heart and soul into this blog. He did it working for a newspaper that gets closer each day to shutting down.
He put up with a lot of nonsense from a lot of people and still put out a quality product everyday.
You don’t have to agree with every opinion. However, you certainly have to thank the man for making this place such a terrific destination.
Incivility and lack of respect have been talked about a lot in recent days, given some of the actions in sports.
Sometimes, some of you should take a step back and think before writing. Being civil and having respect for someone isn’t a sign of weakness. In fact, its a sign of strength.
Pete Abraham deserves unending thanks for what he brought to Yankee fans, and this newspaper, with his blog.
Its a shame the blog has gotten ruined in recent weeks with some of the nonsense we see in Pete’s goodbye thread and this one.
Unfortunately, that’s just nature of these types of enterprises. You don’t realize what you have until its gone.
In the meantime, I’m really happy for Pete’s success. He’s a good guy in a business not always filled with good guys.
He deserves every good thing coming to him.
The Boston Globe just got a star and the Journal News lost one.
As someone who has made difficult “family-first” decisions personally and professionally let me congratulate you and your family on what appears to be a very positive step towards the future.
I certainly hope that either Chad Jennings or Sam Borden takes over this blog. This quirky disfunctional family needs this outlet!
OT – little bit on johnny damon’s power surge this year on mlbnetwork – talking about the changes he’s made over the years…also mentioned that he’s a free agent and the ‘short porch’ in yankee stadium (which helps) but they didn’t even mention the change in the order so he’s going to see some better pitches (dropping him down in the order in front of texiera who’s more threatening than jeter) – your thoughts?
Yeah, the NY-BOSTON was invented in the 1990′s — what a dope[1]. I guess the Curse of the Bambino was made up in the 1990′s by Joe Torre as well. Sure in any given year a team may or may not be in contention and the rivalry subsides.
I find it amazing what people will say in an attempt to minimize whatever someone else is saying. While we are happy for Pete, an all around good guy, we have to be envious of his helping the Red Sox cause as he helped the Yankees cause here. I have been a full-blown Yankee fan since 1976 and it ain’t because of Pete but I definitely felt much more involved and a strengthened bond to the team having had Pete to read.
I did weigh in but, the post got eaten up in the filter.
I’ve also e-mailed Pete privately with my congratulations.
Find another conspiracy theory.
Pete deserves this promotion. The guy busted his hump to create a terrific Yankee Blog.
Whomever replaces him as the blogmaster is going to feel how the next Yankee Closer will feel replacing Mo. Huge shoes to fill.
I think its a time to celebrate Pete and what he brought to all of us instead of engaging in childish rants, digs and conspiracy theories.
You won’t find many people on this blog who dislike the Red Sox more than me. Unlike most of you, I’ve had some business dealings with members of their ownership group and let’s just say it wasn’t “pleasant”.
That means nothing when it comes to working for the Boston Globe. That’s a GREAT promotion for Pete.
You go from a newspaper ranking about 120 in the country to one ranked in the Top 10-12, that’s a no brainer move to make, regardless of who you will be covering.
Its a loss for us but a gain for Pete and I’m happy for him this has worked out.
I see lots of discussion around the net surrounding the Cy Young award and how Greinke has better meaningful numbers than CC. But I think if you look at those numbers (ignoring W/L) Mariano has even better numbers.
Mariano Greinke
G 59 30
IP 59.2 210.1
ERA 1.66 2.14
ERA+ 268 204
SO/BB 5.82 5.09
WHIP 0.888 1.065
So except for IP it would be hands down Mariano. But Mariano has pitched in roughly one out of every three games and leads the league in saves. I know some people will say the CY Young award is for starting excellence, not for relieving excellence. Well, part of starting is winning, I just don’t see any rationale under which you give the award to Greinke that by the same rationale you wouldn’t actually give it to Mariano. I mean by the same sort of logic that says if KC had scored more runs Greinke would be the clear favorite we could say if Mariano was a starter instead of a reliever with those numbers.
But I ain’t saying Mo should win since the award is about wins. Cy Young has the most wins of any pitcher — that’s what the award is basically about. In the end ya gotta win games. Which Zack ain’t done enough — yet!
So again, I don’t see a way that you give it to Zack and not to Mo. So, am I wrong, is the Cy Young not about winning games?
I completely agree with SJ. I don’t think you can put it better than that.
Remember, the Yankees don’t pay Pete, the Journal does.
As for the Yankees and the state of this blog, big shoes to fill or not, the fun of this blog to me has been the great conversations that happen. There’s no reason that can’t continue. Let’s take the Division and talk baseball the rest of the season….there’s nothing more we can do otherwise.
As always, wishing nothing but the best (health/wealth/happiness) for you and your family. I will certainly be checking in with you in your new blog (at most 19 times a year!!!). I really hope you that wont be performing the magic number updates for your new blog !!
Thanks for extending the yankee family into our family!
oh and more thing … please dont stop at the globe. would love to see you on ESPN as a regular … you certainly would alot of class, knowledge, and respectability to their programming!!
I have been reading this blog for the past year, as a 61 year old Yankee fan in Boston. I thought that Pete did a good job, and brought me into the clubhouse with him. The thought that a beat writer cannot be a fan is just silly – just how can you NOT be a fan of the very players you interact with on a daily basis. He must think we’re stupid. I am shocked about all of this, and 2 things stand out : my first reaction was that Pete was and is a traitor. How can somebody be a Red Sox fan (but I bet he won’t really admit this here on this blog) and enter into the Yankee clubhouse and “act” like he really likes them? It takes a real good faker to do that, and my friends, we have all been had by him. To do this to this blog with 2 weeks to go in a season that promises that we go deep into the playoffs is unreal. Wonder how the Yankee players feel about him now? There’s an old saying that says “what goes on here, stays here.” Will it really, Pete? I doubt it. Family loyality is great, and I admire people who attest to it. But there SHOULD be some loyality to the Yankee fans also. It’s also really unprofessional to drop this time bomb with 2 weeks to go. But it figures that Pete (now that we REALLY know him) would run from a class organization like the Yanks to a team that is the exact opposite of them (gee could that be the Red Sox ????) Hey Billy Martin’s's quote strikes me as a good way to end this entry : “They deserve each other” In this case it’s Pete and Boston.
pete u were kidding about leaving.. right?
Should really be 9Roger Maris but I’ll take it.
I see you really started following your new team. that was quick their game just ended
Impressive from Fuentes, he actually got 2 outs.
Looking forward to seeing Billy Martin’s number.
100 pitches of fun…
He got 2 outs last night too. Thankfully someone got the first in the 9th
The Yankee magic number is 10. Pete’s magic number is 14.
Jackson is on 3rd base, 2 outs, Ransom batting with a 1-2 count.
Both the Angels & sox are 6 games back in the loss column…….we are sitting pretty………..
Your magic # isnt 10 traitor … I keed I keed, best of luck and thanks for doing this all of these years, I never rreally posted, but it was a hell of a good read.
This whole thing Pete can’t be true. The heck with guessing the line ups. We should all protest to the journal for letting him go
Anyone else read Rizzuto’s plaque? Pretty funny…
“The best shortstop the Yankees ever had.”
Obviously it’s a reference to the Yankees until that point, but I still think it’s funny that someday the park will have 2 “Best Shortstops the Yankees ever had.”
3 outs. Ransom strikes out.
Jennifer,
Fuentes got 3 outs yesterday too. The umpire screwed it up.
And, in Philadelphia, Pigs Fly. Lidge gets the save and only allows one run.
How can Fuentes only have 43 strikeouts?
Good luck, Pete! I’ve really enjoyed reading your stories and updates on the blog. Wish you the best in Boston. I hope the Red Sox fans will appreciate you as much as we do!
Pete, are you going to be covering the Red Sox for the playoffs?
All I can say is…
Holy Cow
The Red Sox fans will love that you’re a big Pats fan. You’re really gonna have fun if you’re blogging there. I dont blame you for blogging for your childhood team and covering them. It’s kind of got a romanticized feel to it, you going to work to cover the Red Sox. Journalism is your passion and you’re going to be in a great place for a journalist: great stories, drama, and very, very passionate fans at a popular news outlet.
A dream.
Enjoy, Pete.
It’s going to be VERY weird reading Pete’s Red Sox blog next year.
10:04 PM: Still tied going to the bottom of the 8th. Papi or Youk now goes deep and gets the game to Paps. Bank on it.
Eww.

In other good news, Seattle involved in a marathon. Maybe they’ll exhaust the bullpen.

Second time that’s happened. They played 14 innings the night before our last series with them (and we won the first three games).

For those that missed the perfect game action in Philly the other night. Click on the big video and watch the little beauty in the pink hat. What a little doll. This is baseball as it’s meant to be.
http://mlb.mlb.com/news/articl…..p;c_id=mlb
Seattle is still playing, they started their game at 3:40, while the Yankees are already in their hotel.
GB – I loved it!!! I especially loved it when the dad hugged the little girl even though she threw the ball back. How cool that she actually knew enough to throw it on the field (so she hasn’t yet learned when you throw it back.)
Priceless. And precious.
Does anyone else think Dee from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia resemble a female Shelley Duncan?
I need some guidance from my fellow Yankee and Bruce fans. Do I go to Game 2 of the ALDS or Bruce’s last show ever at Giants Stadium on 10/9. I’m torn.

I’m not a Bruce fan but you obviously are if you’re asking that question. If it was between Game 2 of the ALDS and seeing my favorite group perform for the last time at a local venue, I’d go see my favorite group. If it were the potential last game of the world series, potential last game of the ALCS, or the potential last game of a DLS, I’d go to the game.

GB – I loved it!!! I especially loved it when the dad hugged the little girl even though she threw the ball back. How cool that she actually knew enough to throw it on the field (so she hasn’t yet learned when you throw it back.)
Priceless. And precious.

Josh Beckett in the press conference actually sounds humble.
Giving credit to the Angels for being a good team.
I guess he want to feed the Angels BS so they think they’re good and then come playoff time, Beckett and the RS will wipe the floor with them.

It is a trap! Angels can’t fall for it! Josh NEVER gives credit!

Thanks for that, pat. I hadn’t seen it. No question who’s daddy’s girl, is there. And her favorite player is Raul Ibanez. What a doll….and those eyes.
Go to the ball game. No question. Especially if you’ve seen the artist many times already.
Go see Bruce. Burnett will probably pitch game 2.
Pete, I just read the news. I have really enjoyed this blog and your coverage of the Yankees. Whoever inherits this has a thankless task ahead of them.

So, yes. Win for us and a Sox loss (do they play tomorrow?) knocks two games off the magic #.

WHAT IS THIS ABOUT PETE SWITCHING TO THE BOSTON GLOBE?????
Pete:
I hope you read this. Before you commit to that Boston job, think about what you’ve created here. It’s an amazing site, and if you think it isn’t a lot about your effort, go see how many commenters there are on the LoHud Mets blog. Newspapers are a dying business. The internet is the place to be. What you should consider doing is taking this blog privately — my guess is that everyone and more will come along with you — and selling your own ads, etc. That’s where the money is, and the community you’ve created, etc.
Think about it. This is really a rare, rare opportunity. The Boston paper needs you more than you need them.
Miller look down 2 entries.
Pete’s last post on this site is going to be epic, just epic.
Doreen must not have read the news yet…
Sox are in Baltimore this weekend so that’s 3 wins guaranteed
Has anyone ever worn the number 0 or double 0 for the Yankees?
So is this blog going to die–right before the playoffs begin with the strongest Yankee team in a decade?
Let’s hope not, but if it does, SJ can you tell us where you will post next if it does? I kind of like Feinsand, who sounds like covering the Yankees was his boyhood dream.
Say what you want about Micheal Kay, but could you ever see him aspiring to be Don Orsillo?
We want our beat writers and announcers to be homers–that’s the idea.
At least one mystery may be solved–Pete didn’t like ARod because he didn’t go to the Sox, maybe?
When are the Yankees doing their hazing? Wednesday? The probably aren’t going to fly out till Thursday afternoon since they are only going to Tampa.
I’m still shocked that Fuentes was able to close them out tonight. It just shows you how meaningless the save category is when this guy leads the league.

Pete,
Good for you but please dont be disingenuous about your move.
WOW!!!Best of Luck to ya Pete..Ill miss seeing you in Tampa at ST.

Do you sometimes post under the handle “Mo’s Flat Cutter”???
Well, I guess the sun will still come up tomorrow morning, but it may be wearing a frown. Thanks, Pete, for all the good writing, constant updates, wry humor and dedication to the job. Now if Kanye would just get in your face and tell that this is one of the best jobs of all time!
I’m sure it will be great to be nearer to your family (and the Pats), right? What if we all pitched in and moved your parents to the NY area?
Do people not know what the first amendment is or what it means? Pete is not Congress or a branch of government.

It bears repeating that in his opening day prediction thread, Pete predicted the following:
AL East Champ – Yankees. WildCard – Red Sox.
ALCS: Yankees over Red Sox.
AL MVP: Mark Teixiera
If he’s a die-hard Sox fan, at least he hides it well.
Excellent point Bronx Jeers – I bet Pete doesn’t even make the trip. Blogging will probably be from home.

Q and A with Pete
A couple of scrolls down
Red Sox fandom confirmation
————-
Who cares? Pete has done a great job covering the Yankees.
Jim-
Did it ever occur to you to maybe just stop for a second and thank Pete for providing a forum where you can voice your opinions and ideas?
The Durham LF just made a ridiculous catch to take a game-tying double by Reegie Corona.
Nearly doubled off the runner too, but the throw was wild so caught a break.
Bernier could be Scranton’s final batter.
“Very interesting, but stupid”…
Remembering Henry Gibson. Thanks for the laughs.
SWB lost
Bernier, 2-2 count.
SWB loses.
That catch was the game.
Hey Gay Pete – why don’t you lay off the freaking insults.
Last season he predicted the Yankees wouldn’t even make the playoffs – kinda ruins your ingenious theory, huh?
My point was simply that he handled his job even-handedly, no matter what his personal preferences were.
Oh, my. Season’s over for the Scranton Yankees.
They did well this season, considering they didn’t have much to work with as they fed the big league club.
Hopefully, they go off and do their winter work. And stay healthy.
Will anyone get the callup?

I was sitting next to the dugout. J Rod was our best hitter. He has has some very interesting (quirky) routines.
======
Isn’t J-Rod 30? All they had to do was give them one decent reliever and Duncan, and they might have won the thing. Ah, well. The big club’s needs come first.
At least SI and Tampa won.
Be nice.
Pete gave us a place to play. Hopefully his replacement will be as gracious and patient a host.
Mel, there’s really nobody on the scranton team worth bringing up, unless it’s Russo and Jackson to just sit on the bench and watch, without activating them.
Jim-
That’s fair enough. But it was Pete with the frequent updates. I don’t think the Journal News required him to check in with us from every airport and tell us what was on his iPod. That’s love of the blog
Pete’s a pro, and the Sox job is his dream.
But what a bat.
Kennedy could possibly be summoned for BP.
Here’s hoping your post season last just a little less long than ours does
Jim-Pirone-
IMO, this site’s success is a testament to the dilegence and work that Pete Abe provided. There are baseball fans here other than Yankee fans. Yankee fans are the target audience and they are the majority (obviously) however I believe it is/was Pete’s tireless work that brought people here.
Just My opinion.

And that is sad.
m
Kennedy getting a call up could put our tandem pitching plan into effect!
Pete’s First Blog Entry: 2/27/2006 01:34:00 PM
Welcome to our new Yankees blog
I don’t see why Kennedy wouldn’t be promoted. He’s on a limit, but he can still help us.
His command seems to be back, although he hasn’t pitched much.

How exactly did Jim Pir-one take over this blog?
Oh, and one of the best thing was that the comments posted instantaneously.
The LA Times Lakers Blog was the only blog I visited at the time, but all the comments were moderated. In this day and age!

GB7,
His is still an arm we can use to give people a break over this last month, and it can help him get in some innings before going to AFL.

I proposed that this morning. I believe the exact response I got was “thud”. LOL
I like the idea. I’d love to see IPK back
Enough with the moronic Pete bashing posts.
Just stop the insanity, please.

I would suppose that they may want him to rest for a couple of weeks before he heads to the Arizona Fall League. They might, but, I just don’t see a reason for it.
Pete will be missed. This blog will never be the same. In fact I would not be surprised if it dies out altogether.
Wow.
I’ve lost more brain cells reading the garbage on this blog than if I had opened a can of paint thinner and sniffed the fumes for an hour.
It’s unbelievable how stupid people can be.
I don’t even care for Pete that much. But, good grief, people and their stupid conspiracy theories and utter nonsense is just insane.

I am off to bed. Good night Yankee people!!!

He was hoping to pitch a little more, but it all depends on where they think he’s at, arm-wise, health-wise.
You killed the blog tonight, Jim Pir-one…congratulations.
m-
Absolutely agree on **everything** you said.
While I haven’t posted alot, I check in frequently. Other sites can’t compare. My first thought was “Where is everybody going to go?” I hope that Pete’s replacement can live up to what this blog has become and that the community continues.

Like I said earlier,
Pete will be missed.

Like I said earlier, WHO CARES?
Pete.
Congrats. Great news for you and your family.
I think your very last thread should be “Good Night Yankee People”…:)

Thank you, DT.

Thanks. It’ll be a weird transition period for sure. Hopefully, the season will end well for “the good guys”.
re: IPK. I’d like to see what how he does against major leaguers.
I know it’s unfair to put him in that position coming off surgery, but I think he can do it.
all of you with the nasty comments towards pete need to get a life & stop taking this so seriously
it is only a game.not life & death.
i can care less if pete hated the yankees
he did a wonderfull job & cared more about us & his job than any writer can only dream about
if somebody can do half the job that pete did it will be nothing short of a miracle.
Pete,
Thank you for all of the hard work you put in each day.
Hey, look on the bright side, Pete. You’ll be linked on espn.com even more now!
I’m sure he’ll try to bring his success on this blog over to his new blog, which means that he’ll inevitable criticize the Red Sox when they deserve it.
well – the Daily News is picking up their game:

Very well said. Great post.

“How exactly did Jim Pir-one take over this blog?”
That’s something I’ve really been wondering mysel.
I stopped by tonight to see how people were remembering Pete and his work only to find more nonsense.

Obviously, Pete did that.
for some reason I can’t get the content past the filter, but check out the post on the Daily News blog – they appear to be trying to fill the gap:

Can someone tell me where to send my resume and to whose attention?
CB.
Hope you are well.
I thought your post on the last thread was spot on. In fact, it was the best testimonial to PA’s diligence.

the players dont know you, dont care about you
all i am concerned with is if we win or lose as long as the players arent major criminals
i cant possibly imagine what you expect out of this nonrelationship between fans & players

CB,
If you start posting more somewhere else, let us know where. I’d go to another site to read your posts for sure.

The door as been left open so long, that any intelligence you had, escaped to the woods.
so does this mean Pete loses his AL MVP vote since he’ll technically be representing a boston newspaper and not a new york one?
Jim –
I really don’t think Pete changed Yankee fans feelings about Arod. Alex was always going to be fighting an uphill battle here. He’s considered to be one of the best in the game and he earns the biggest paycheck. If he doesn’t perform up to those standards, perceived or real, he was going to have a hard time winning over the fans.
And, it seems to me people were calling him out on it anyway, so how was he affecting people’s opinions?
Jim
Opinion heard. Horse dead, beaten and beaten again.
cb-
pete has built quite the core baseball community here.
i think the best tribute to pete is to continue with whoever he passes the torch to, and whoever that is i’m sure will appreciate the support.
… and i wouldn’t be surprised if more than a few of us visit his new blog if he does one with the globe.
I love how people try and threaten by saying they no longer post here as much because of so and so.
Is that supposed to make us feel bad? You think people will stop coming to this blog just because another poster let some troll get under their skin?
It’s pretty funny.
“so does this mean Pete loses his AL MVP vote since he’ll technically be representing a boston newspaper and not a new york one?”
Good question. Does the vote belong to Pete or the Journal News?
randy l,
” i wouldn’t be surprised if more than a few of us visit his new blog if he does one with the globe.”
You can bet on that. A wise man once said it’s best to keep your friends close, but your enemies closer. We want all the inside poop on our enemies in Beantown and no one gets that info better than Pete.Plus, it’ll be a hoot to “interact” with the the fools who call themselve “Nation”. lol
pat – I have no idea – a “daytime” poster probably does…I’ll try to remember to repost in the am
Jim- And I recall Pete writing those exact sentiments in his post. Moving on.
randy l,
“and i wouldn’t be surprised if more than a few of us visit his new blog if he does one with the globe.”
My response seems to have been eaten, but basically it was a very vigorous “you betchya”
Jim,
No need to defend yourself.
Jim Pir-one,
Your posts are a blight. You’ve had your say. Please leave the podium.
Jim Pir-one is doing Pete a favor. His comments will make it easier for Red Sox fans to accept Pete.
Ed H.,
That’s hilarious. As if Pete spent a single penny on server space here. Ah, that other comment was a uncalled for, too.
Wow. This is the first time in literally years that I didn’t check the blog all day, and I missed the stunning news.
Anyway, Peter, congratulations on what I know is a big step up in the newspaper world and good luck in your new job.
m,
Yes, I know how ridiculous that post is, especially the comment about Pete’s weight.

Farewell, Pete and best of luck at your new job at the Globe. None of us likes changes in our cages but we will get used to it in time. The disruption so close to the playoffs is upsetting. I wish the Globe could have waited for the end of the World Series so you could have made a shocking announcement like A rod’s
But you realize they wanted to steal Pete at just the right time, right? The Boston Globe was smart. But oh, Pete, if would have been easier saying good-bye AFTER the Yanks won the World Championship.
There is a hugh void in Yankeeland today.
Greetings from Gate 2…
Yes I’m taking over!
And here’s the real magic countdown number:

wow- I guess I missed a lot last night. Best of luck to you Pete, we will miss you
Wow, I can’t believe Pete is leaving.
Thanks for the great coverage Pete.
I love this blog, but I won’t be visiting any Red Sox blog, even just to keep tabs on Pete.
I hope this place doesn’t die, but whoever takes over has awfully big shoes to fill……..I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
I admit I find it funny that Pete would leave before the end of the season, but …….whatever he has to do
Pete,
Good luck up in Beantown, stay true to the reporter you have presented yourself as here.
Good luck Pete and knock’em dead in Boston.
Pete —-
As someone who has made difficult “family-first” decisions personally and professionally let me congratulate you and your family on what appears to be a very positive step towards the future.
I certainly hope that either Chad Jennings or Sam Borden takes over this blog. This quirky disfunctional family needs this outlet!
Red Sox had their Rookie Dress Up thing.
They went real original and did a Wizard of Oz theme.
First they take Pete….
funny how SJ44 has not weighed in?
Is he the real Pete?
Good job pete even though you kicked me out,why i’m not sure, you did let me back.
Maybe my comment had a ring of truth?
Congrats to Pete. You will be missed. Now to figure out where to get my updates on the Yanks
Way to Go Angels !
Pete: Congrats. I have really enjoyed following the Yankees on this blog and have come to rely upon it for up to the minute information.
Red Sox Nation does not deserve you.

********
Haha they steal everything from us!
Well said SJ44. I couldn’t agree more
I agree with almost everything SJ wrote.
I love this blog, but I know Mariano Rivera. Mariano Rivera is a friend of mine. Pete is no Mariano Rivera. lol!
More dittos to SJ
I completely agree with SJ. I don’t think you can put it better than that.
Remember, the Yankees don’t pay Pete, the Journal does.
As for the Yankees and the state of this blog, big shoes to fill or not, the fun of this blog to me has been the great conversations that happen. There’s no reason that can’t continue. Let’s take the Division and talk baseball the rest of the season….there’s nothing more we can do otherwise.
whatsamatter SJ, can’t take a joke?
Pete!
