I’m not denying anything can happen. We saw it with the Mets. Twice.

But it’s ridiculous to fret about it. We can’t do anything about it.

But to question the mind of Girardi and the heart of the players, like some did of Molina tonight will get you a response.

They were 6 outs away from being 2-4 in their last 6 games and the lead being down to 4 in the loss. Stealing that game is what has prevented them from being in an even worse position right now. Imagine if they “only” won 3/4 against Tampa and didn’t steal the last game. They’d be only up by 4 in the division race instead of 6.

They are teetering on the edge right now if it still being a race. They can end that by winning a few, such as taking the series in Seattle and somehow winning in Anaheim. However, if they don’t and Boston takes care of business, it’s a race again hinging on that important series.

Until you have clinched, it’s not over.

No one is saying we’re going to blow the division.

However, when we had such a big lead, it would really suck to see Boston slice into it and give themselves a chance to win it if we trip up against KC or Tampa. We should never even have entertained thoughts about going into Tampa playing for something, but we just might.

We’re giving away these easy games.
