Webb would not be an inexpensive signing and he's not just some nl pitcher. there aren't more than 5 pitchers in baseball that you can say are definitely better than him when he's healthy.

Davis would be an expensive acquisition and not enough of an upgrade over current CF options to be worth it.
========

That's really the question I think. Is he an upgrade? I like Melky and Gardner, and I think they've done a really good job this year. How long do the Yankees go with the platoon? I think together they are a good tandem.

That being said, from what I saw of Davis this year (admittedly a limited sample) he's good defensively and is a pest on the basepaths.

I like Davis, too. He’s been a real shocker this year. just need to figure out whether he’s for real or is he a mirage. He’s about 29 years old, but, would Oakland take Cabrera and a young pitcher? He’d look just fine patrolling center field for a couple of years while terrorizing teams on the bases. He’s hit around .350 over the last 300-400 at bats.

-------------

The problem is how do you know if he's "for real"? Sometimes you don't until it's too late, but boy, other than Homer Bush when was the last time the Yankees had speed burners? Between him & Gardner...the havoc they could cause for the other team would be fun to watch. :D

Greg Gibson is the HP ump.

Agreed that Davis will have a high asking price, not that he necessarily deserves it.

pat,

Stark had the same thing. It doesn't make sense to me.

lol. Listening to the KC feed. This kid has been getting jobbed all night. During Ellsbury at-bat, someone was chirping from the dugout and the ump had a quick hook. They were confused because Heyman was still in the dugout. They just announced it was Greinke who was ejected.

Ellsbury should’ve been called out on strikes. Instead he got a hit, stole second, and just scored on the error.

Stupid ump.

Davis would be an expensive acquisition and not enough of an upgrade over current CF options to be worth it. A power hitting RF who is great defensively and in his prime would be another story... but I don't know of anyone who fits that description.

I'd take a flier on Webb of those three options because it is the least expensive/risky option and potentially has the best reward. Lackey is a bulldog and younger than AJ. I cannot understand people who say giving Chapman $ 30 Million or more makes the slightest amount of sense.

GB7,

Wow, I’d love to get Davis. Much as I’d like to continue bringing up the homegrown guys. Davis is appealing.

I think I’d avoid the FA market for pitchers and stick with Chamberlain and Hughes for the rotation next year.

Sox might be setting up their rotation so Lester goes Game 1 and Beckett go Game 2 in the ALDS.
