the post season seems very simple to me:
1. The Yankees have the best team on the field, all they need to do is score some runs on a consistent basis. They don't need 10 per game, just 4-5 reliably.
2. They have 3 solid starters-CC, AJ, and Andy-2 out of the 3 need to pitch well.
3. They have the best bullpen for the playoffs-Mo and Hughes are the two best at the end and Robertson, Aceves, and Coke are good enough earlier if they need help.
4. Solid bench-Gardner, Hairston, and Guzman (if active) give them a weapon they haven't had in many years at the end of the game.

Put that all together it spells championship #27. The rest of the stuff isn't important at all.

I was kind of half listening to it yesterday.

Did I hear Sam say he just turned 30?

Could that be true?

If so, goodbye "Brandy (You're A Fine Girl)", hello "Hangin' Tough" by the New Kids on the Block.

Furthermore, the Yankees have not done Joba or themselves any favors by holding him to 3 innings per start in this last month. I know he was supposed to go longer a few times, and his ineffectiveness and pitch counts got him out, but does anybody really believe that he could give us 6 or 7 innings, or even 5 out of nowhere in a pressure packed playoff start?

As far as Joba is concerned, I am concerned about his performance if he has to start a game in the postseason. My concern is for the team's success, but I am not worried long term about whether Joba will be effective.

Right now, he is doing very little to be successful. He is nibbling, and doesn't have near the fastball command he would need to try to throw the perfect pitch. I think this was possibly brought on by his stuff being not nearly as sharp and unhittable as it had been in the past. But remember, we were thinking these same things about Hughes last year. It looked like he didn't have a chance of getting the ball past a ML bat at times. Look at him this year, he is much sharper and more effective. IMO, it is not just a product of him knowing he is pitching just an inning. I will choose to wait until next year to panic on Joba's long-term viability. An offseason of reflection, re-dedication, and most importantly, conditioning could make him a different pitcher next year.
