The LoHud Yankees Blog

A New York Yankees blog by Sam Borden, Chad Jennings and the staff of The Journal News

Some good news to share with you

Peter Abraham
September
29

Now that everything is finalized, here is some more news for you.

I’m thrilled to announce that The Journal News has hired Chad Jennings of the Times-Tribune in Scranton and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees Blog to cover the Yankees. Chad starts on Oct. 7.

Chad covered the Triple-A Yankees with distinction and his blog was a must-read for Yankee fans who wanted to be up to date on the organization’s prospects. Chad has a knack for blogging and is a fine writer and reporter.

As somebody who once covered the Double-A Yankees, I believe there is a lot of value in having a reporter who started in the minors and worked his way up. Chad is a young guy with a lot of ambition and knowledge of baseball and he’s the perfect choice to take over this blog.

I’m grateful to Mike Fisch, Henry Freeman, CynDee Royle, Susie Arth and everybody else at The Journal News for moving so swiftly to add Chad to the staff. This assures a seamless transition and continuous coverage on the blog. The LoHud Yankees Blog won’t be going anywhere.

Sam Borden will be covering the Yankees from now and throughout the playoffs with assistance from Chad once be comes on board. Josh Thomson will be in Tampa this weekend.

So please join me in welcoming Chad to this blog. Please treat him well once he arrives.

Chad, this circus is yours. I’m glad it’s in good hands.

Chad Jennings? Sweet! Glad to hear it.

Good luck, to the both of you.

That’s great news that Chad is coming over here. Sounds like the perfect guy to take over.

Welcome, Chad. Hope it’s a smooth transition for you. Pete, I wish you look, but it’s going to be weird with you not here for the playoffs(at least on THIS side)

We’ll see you in a couple of weeks anyway.

  6. Rishi

    Welcome, Chad…congratulations!

  7. The Mad Prince in Pinstripes

    Welcome aboard Chad.

You have massive shoes to fill, but we’ll get you through it.

Pete, it’s actually LUCK I wish you. Not look.

Chad, two words for you, not necessarily in order of importance:

    1. Welcome!

    2. REGISTRATION!! (Yes, I’m yelling.)

  10. THU

Welcome Chad, your blog has been one of the best to read. I hope your good coverage continues.

I couldn’t imagine a better choice to replace Pete than you, Chad! Congrats! I hope SWB gets as good of a replacement as Pete’s getting in you.

    Erica,
I’m a long term reader and finally decided to post today. There are many posters that speak from the heart as well as the head and bring an enjoyable insight here. I find that your posts are not only enjoyable but a breath of fresh air to this blog. I’ve had the occasion to meet your PBF and he’s really a good guy.
If possible I’d like to submit my P/S roster.

Best of luck to you Pete Abraham! It’s been great!

This is very good news. Chad, you have big shoes to fill but judging from your work you’re going to be up to it.

Thanks! But if you have any young & cute single friends, I am open to introductions :-)

    A well-deserved promotion.

Chad earned his place on the 25-man roster of beat reporters.

  21. m

Great news. From everything I’ve seen and heard, Jennings is the perfect person for the job.

    Congratulations, Chad, and welcome aboard!

That’s all it takes to civilize you, Erica? Just kiss up to you? If I had known that, I would have tried it.

  23. bdog375

    Congratulations Chad!

  24. Frank from Chatham, NJ

Good luck to you, Pete. You were a tremendous read for me on a daily basis. Always candid & honest with your thoughts. I will miss reading your Yankee thoughts.

    Welcome Chad!

I have read your blog on occasion and I do think you will fit in very well with this crowd.

  25. cardiganfox

    The chad is great

  26. Johnny 99

Does this mean Mike Ashmore gets the callup to Scranton?

There are bloggers and there are Yankee bloggers. Chad will save my morning read. And to think, with Pete leaving, I thought I might get some work done.

  27. Wolf In Pinstripes

Oh, wow. That is indeed great news. There’s no replacing Pete, IMO – but Chad is a fantastic choice to take over the reins and will keep this blog at the top of the heap where Pete put it.

Good work, LoHud! And congrats to Chad! Doesn’t mean you won’t still be missed tremendously, Pete.

  28. Laura - Say yes to Matsui in pinstripes for 2010

Welcome aboard, Chad. We’ll try to be gentle. :P

  29. m

    Wolf,

    Pete? Pete who?

(trying out a new coping mechanism)

  30. Austinmac

That is good news about Chad. Pete, I’m sure you played a big role in his selection and we thank you. I’m sure he will make Pete proud.
Pete, I will miss your writing and insights as will we all. Congratulations, on developing such a successful blog and I hope your future is equally successful.

  31. Uncle Ellsworth (much ado about nothing)

Isn’t this the guy that won all those times on Jeopardy?

  32. Jerkface

What a coup, Chad is one of the best bloggers and beat writers in the business and that includes the major leagues.

  33. Yanksgal07

When one door closes another door opens.

Goodbye Pete (sob, sob) …no way to describe how you will be missed. It’s hard to accept your departure especially to the Boston but I wish you the best especially if you are relaxing with nothing to do during the World Series while the Yankees are playing … :o ).

Welcome to Chad…may you be as informative and witty in your own right. May your fingers never tire of typing Yankee news each and every day thus keeping the many bloggers of Lohud as happy as Pete did. Just don’t pick on Alex …lol.

    Go Yankees 2009 !!!

  34. Christina- Pictures of the Girardi and A-Rod ejection + Leiter's Sock

Congrats to Chad. Hes a good guy and will do well at this gig.

Did anyone see the Rockies play last night. Heres the link.
    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/bl.....mlb,192799

If you click on the story they have a link of the actual play. If you look at it closely, you can see how he has the ball in his hand. I guess that would be the only indication from the shot that he really may have dropped it.

Good job though covering it up. Had their not been pictures, nobody would have known.

  35. Bronx Jeers

This is like hearing we just lost Jimmy Key but now here comes David Wells.

In other words it’s very cool.

Like the Wells signing, they went out and got a guy who can definitely handle the responsibility and will have fun doing it.

A big congratulations to Chad. I’m looking forward to the interaction.

  36. Laura - Say yes to Matsui in pinstripes for 2010

“Isn’t this the guy that won all those times on Jeopardy?”

LOL! Um, that was Ken Jennings.

  37. upstate kate

    Welcome Chad!
Have to say when I saw the headline I thought Pete had changed his mind.

  38. Jeff NJ

Wow, that is great news. Glad to see the Journal News takes this blog seriously.

It’s sad to see you go Pete, it won’t be the same without you.
Now to the important news of the day.
Chad is a great reporter and I have a feeling he’ll blossom in NY (Big Leagues).
I wish him well (one last push here – Pete, don’t go, we need you here, [you might make less money, but you'll never find such devoted fans,] okay – end of push).
What’s your new email address Pete?
Good Luck to both of you.

P.S. You forgot to tell us when we can come and troll your blog up with Yankee Fans.

  51. SmackethDowneth

Wow – that is excellent! Chad, welcome :-)
Now, about who should report from SWB…..

Way to go Chad!!! I read your SWB blog daily. You will be great! I am looking forward to your coverage!!!!

  58. roid sox

Great choice, glad to have you Chad. Can you start now?

  59. rconn23

    Wow. That’s realy good news.

Chad did an excellent job covering Scranton. He would have been my first choice to replace Pete and seems like a natural fit.

Still, very sad to see you go, Pete. Yours are big shoes to fill.

  60. Wolf In Pinstripes

    SmackethDowneth –

Mike Ashmore would be a great choice anywhere. Between Pete, Chad, and Mike, Yankee fans have been spoiled with great coverage from all three.

  61. jennifer

I am grinning from ear to ear. I’ve read Chad’s entries on Scrantons site and he does a fantastic job. A+++ choice!

  62. Uncle Ellsworth (much ado about nothing)

we should all give chad the silent treatment on his first day

  63. Ed H.

Chad’s a great choice to replace the irreplaceable Pete. (Yes, it’s a Yankees blog and I am allowed to talk like Yogi.) Chad, we’ll do our best to treat you right and welcome to the LoHud Zoo.

  64. NYYROC

For anyone not familiar with Chad’s work, check out his blog. Don’t worry, Pete has left us in good hands. Chad is the best possible choice! He does a lot of pre, in game and post game commenting. Good stuff!!!

  87. Johnny D.

Nice. I prefer a real Yankees fan to Pete.

  88. Johnny D.

I’m just sad, really. I’ll actually miss Pete a lot. :(

  90. Raf

    Welcome Chad.

  91. SteveB

Pete, best wishes for you at your new digs. I am sure it is the right decision for you and your family, which is the only ‘fan base’ a person needs to be truly concerned with. GOOD LUCK PETE.

As for Chad Jennings, I said all along he was the perfect fit here. Anyone who hasn’t read his stuff will be in for a very pleasant surprise. He already knows many current Yankees as they passed through Scranton. But all you commenters here need to give him time to get ‘up to speed’. GOOD LUCK CHAD.

Seriously, this is a great choice and congratulations Chad I can’t wait to see you in the big leagues, as your work for SWB was great.

    scott,

Looks like today is Pete’s last day, and Sam Borden will be covering for the LHYB until Jennings comes aboard. Which looks like 10/7.

How exciting for Chad to start right when the playoffs begin. Talk about whirlwind!

  99. Brian M

Great news, always been a fan of his blog. Great job Journal News. Congrats Chad.

Only downside is now we need someone to step up and fill his shoes in Scranton ;)

What a great choice! It’s comforting to know that such a thorough and knowledgeable writer is taking over. His youth could be a huge plus — never underestimate the technologically inclined!

What more could you for? Enough baseball passion to cover double A, a background in covering the Yankees organization… Congrats Chad!

Welcome aboard Chad. I am very happy to have you continue with the blog. I have been a follower of Pete’s blog and love your feedback and interpretation of matters.

Pete, I am a little confused by this post, though. Will Chad be the new beat writer, going forward (and blog writer). I noticed that you said Sam will cover the Yankees throughout the playoffs with assistance from Chad. Is this just for the playoffs? Thanks.

  121. Yazman (aka David)

    Welcome, Chad!

As Phil, Joba, Gardie and crew helped the Yanks to the best record in baseball, I’m thrilled that LoHud is following the same strategy!

  122. Drew

That’s great news! Chad is a good guy.

Does this mean Mike Ashmore gets promoted from Trenton? ;)

  126. Ryan Loghry

Yeah, I echo Jim M’s question, will Chad be the beat writer and blogmaster next season?

So long Pete, we’ll miss you. Welcome aboard Chad!

  127. john

    Pete,

Thanks for all the hard work. You will be missed. Welcome Chad.

  128. EY

I am beginning to see a parallel between baseball and baseball blogs. Chad just got promoted from AAA to the big leagues. Pete has left the Yankees and signed as a free agent with *gasp* Boston.

I guess the only difference is there are no trades.

  129. disco stu

Welcome Chad … big shoes to fill, but we all have faith in you!!!

  130. mike eff

welcome Chad– I’m sure most of us feel you were the best man to take on– maybe this place will still feel like home. i hope it will

  131. nettles

Well, another way of looking at it is that Pete went from the 100th largest paper (measured by circulation) to the 17th largest. So the next stop is the NY Times, no? :)

That’s great news about Chad! I’ve been following his blog as well and it’s highly detailed. He’ll be a worthy replacement for Pete. Welcome, Chad; and all the best to you in Boston, Pete! Thanks for all the fun!

  132. Yankee Fan in VA

    Greetings and welcome, Chad!

  133. drousman

As a big fan of everything I’ve read by you, welcome Chad. Pete, As a latecome to the blog it’s about the only place I’ve gotten my yankee news for the past year so I’m sorry to see you go. However I’m glad I get to welcome you to my local paper, nice to have another thoughful and unbiased scribe on the sports staff of the Globe (along with Maz). Yankee fans in MA are glad to welcome you aboard.

  134. Jhutch

I, for one, welcome our new overlord.

    Welcome Chad!

  135. Patch

    hmmm.

why does this feel like a trade up to me?

  136. roy hobbs

Good Luck in Beantown, Pete (Do they call it that because we’re always throwing at Youk?

    Welcome Chad!
Just keep those posts coming fast & furious. Pete has spoiled us in that regard and without numerous daily posts we might be expected to actually get some work done.

  137. Doreen

I hope this thread isn’t dead – I have a bad habit of being the last poster in a lot of threads.

Congratulations, Chad and good luck with this motley crew Pete is leaving behind!

  138. MG

Yours are big shoes to fill but I’m glad you have someone with a good grasp of the organization taking over. I still wish there were more blogs with clubhouse access. Give press passes to River Ave Blues and you have a dream come true for me.

  139. RER - 98

Getting Chad Jennings is the equivalent of signing C.C. Sabathia and Mark Teixeira.
Those unfamiliar with his superb journalistic ability need only to read his blog.
The loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Times is our gain.
Let’s make his work as easy as possible. We’re in for a real treat.

  140. Jacob

    Welcome Chad!!!

  141. steve

Great news. Thanks Pete and welcome Chad.

  142. lil' m

Welcome and congratulations Chad!!! It’s great to see the Journal News’ intelligent choice – the blog and the Yankees coverage will clearly be in good hands.

  143. The Walrus Was Paul

I thought having Chad Jennings as the replacement was only a pipe dream, this is great! I still will miss Pete though…

  144. Joey

  148. fridayjones

This is awesome, outstanding news. I’ve been reading Chad’s blog on Peter’s recommendation, and I’m looking forward to his taking over of this space. Feels like it’s gone to one of the family.

Now off to Boston with you Abraham! Traitor! ;-)

Seriously though, thanks Peter for your coverage and for making this blog one of the first things I look at online every day. Best of luck to you in Boston.

  149. Drive 4-5

Welcome aboard the board Chad! I’m sure you will work hard and do very well here. As Pete has shown, this blog can be the stepping stone for advancing your career. Best of luck to you!

What a terrific idea bringing in the perspective of someone as knowledgeable about the Yankee organization as Chad. Kudos to the folks at LoHud. I’m sure Pete had some input and he did us all a favor by recommending Chad.

    Pete,

You are going to going to be missed. Please stop by and say hello! My guess is you are going to have some time on your hands in about 2 weeks when the Sox are eliminated by the Angels. Be sure to get your digs in about the bandbox that is Fenway like you did with Yankee Stadium. The first time you watch a 310 foot popup scrape the Green Monster for a double, feel free to mention on your blog that it would have been an out in any other ballpark. And then run for cover! LOL. Best of luck for you personally, and the worst of luck for the team you are covering. I mean that…both ways:)

    Pete,
Yes, there are Yankee fans in Paris, France, and therefore avid readers of this blog; congratulations on doing such a wonderful job here, best of luck on the next move – and welcome Chad. Indeed, pretty big shoes to fill.

  151. Benjamin in KC

    Fantastic.

  152. Mark from Washington

Well, this makes Pete’s exit at least a little more palatable.

Good luck, Pete. You’ll be missed, but thanks for helping to steer Chad this way.

Welcome, Chad! Just like LoHud to date, your work at the SWBYB has provided a bevy of great content to read and react to, and a wonderful place to share ideas and comments.

Looking forward to all of your good work to come…

  153. Sports Geek

Welcome Chad!!.. We know you’ll do a great job! Great to have you with your very fine experience and performance in Scranton. Welcome to the funny farm!

But what happened to Sam? (No offense Chad, we’re happy to have you!) I was getting all psyched up to have Sam here.

  154. Michael

Question will Chad be traveling covering Yanks as well as at home. That is the only way he can do the job like Pete did. But it sounds to me that is not true because Sam Borden will be covering them. Unless of course they send both they may though they would just have to pull someone from covering the Mets.

  155. Sean Serritella

    Good luck Chad.

  156. bighead

    thank god!!!!!!

Pete, I was devastated when You said you were leaving.

    But

    This is a RELIEF!

  157. Cam

Holy crap! This is awesome. Chad’s blog is a great read. Nice to keep the guy in the organization. Welcome to the big leagues!

  158. JimmyH

    Welcome, Chad!
You’ll be a great replacement for ‘ol what’s his name.

  159. Keith

Way to go Chad … from one Northeast PA guy to another … I wish you luck ! Look at the bright side you no longer have to work with Joby !

I’m glad they hired Chad. This is the one guy I was hoping they picked to replace Pete. I’m happy that my daily fix will continue to be in good hands.

  168. Groundhoggator

    Chad,

Congrats… This is awesome news…we are truly in great hands.

Thanks Pete for setting such a high precedent and knowing that Chad will be able keep this blog at the top.

  169. 213 Area Code

Congratulations, Chad! We’re all confident that The Blog will continue to feature the instant reportage & updates that we’ve all grown used to and it will develop/grow as you (& Sam) put your individual stamps on it.

  170. Giant Blue

Sucks to be SWB. They just lost a very good reporter.

  171. Dustin

What great news. If there’s anyone held in the same echelon of esteem among Yankee blog readers as you, Pete, it’s Chad Jennings.

  172. Zac

I’m not sure about this “Chad” guy.

  173. ed

Congrats Chad….I’ve read your SWB blog this past year, and look forward to your coverage.

  174. TexasYanksFan

    Welcome Chad.

You’ve got some big shoes to fill. Pete has made this the best blog in baseball. Gonna miss him. But I look forward to your work and hearing your take on the Yanks. Best of luck to both of you.

  175. JeterJobaCanoFanForever, enough said

    Welcome Chad and good luck.

  176. nilrac2

Big Country to the Big Apple. As someone who has known Chad for 30 years, I can honestly say you guys are lucky. Chaz, you’ve come a long way my friend. Cards-Yanks 2009!………………………….Cards in 6.
