Erica, and anyone who may be curious...

I looked through the 17 submissions for "Guess the ALDS Roster" (including the very late submission), and found the following:

1) There were 3 pairs or people who submitted the same roster; one of those by saying "I'll have the same as her/him". All of the other rosters were different.

2) 9 submissions had 14 field players and 11 pitchers, 6 submissions had 13 and 12, 2 submissions had 15 and 10.

3) 19 players were selected by everyone:
Posada, Teixeira, Cano, Jeter, ARod, Damon, Cabrera, Swisher
CC, AJ, Andy, Joba, Rivera, Hughes, Aceves, Coke
Gardner, Hairston, Molina

4) Matsui was accidentally left off by 1 submission.

5) The other players included in the various submissions were (in order of frequency)- Hinske, Bruney, Robertson, Marte, Gaudin, Peña, Guzman, Cervelli, Kennedy, Mitre

In honor of PeteAbe, I have one last observation from the roster guess submissions:

6) No one included Angel Berroa in their submission.

ghost: "Their top three starters are locks, as are relievers Mariano Rivera, Phil Hughes, Phil Coke and -- in a role to be determined -- Joba Chamberlain.

That leaves three spots for some combination of the following: Damaso Marte, who is quickly regaining his manager's favor; David Robertson and Alfredo Aceves, who must prove they are healthy; Chad Gaudin, who could make it as a long man; and Bruney." From MLB.com

To accomodate taking out one pitcher from those listed above would be risky. I would even suggest 11 pitchers.

I believe Hughes should be a starter (just like Joba). However, dont dismiss him staying in the pen. In that article it sure seems like he's happy there.

I read somewhere that Pena and Jeter go at it every day at ground ball practice trying to see who can have the least amount of errors. Makes you wonder if El Nino has combined with surehanded Mark Teixiera to make old captain the best that he can be. Just one more reason to love that kid. I would take him in a second over Hairston on the post season roster. My rules on the post season are as follows - whoever has contributed to the teams success in a substantial way deserves a spot on the roster - even if that means leaving a player with more talent/experience/versatility off. It's just my controversial view but I believe that players that have contributed big in the regular season are more heavily invested in the team than those that have merely played well. Hence I believe that Pena AND Cervelli need to be on the roster at the expense of Guzman and Hairston or maybe take one less pitcher.

Joe from Long Island:

"You want dedication, Pete – I was at the game, stayed thru the rain delay, saw Nino’s HR and the slam by Robbie, drove home, have to get up at 6:30 in the AM, and what am I doing now?"

You are a better man than I, Gunga Din. I was "yanked" from the game (and Stadium) after the 4th inning due to the wife's cold, wet feet. Vamos Yankees!

Will Andy be back next year?
C.C., A.J., Wang, Joba, Hughes
Robertson takes the 8th inning role. I just hope Marte comes back healthy & we get some value out of his salary.
Melancon may likely get a shot at the bullpen too.

If Robertson continues to develop and Mark Melancon get himself sorted out Hughes to the 'pen will be a moot point.
