Video chat replay available on demand • 09.25.09
Sam Borden and I talked Yankees and answered questions submitted by readers yesterday for nearly an hour. You can see a replay on demand at our ProTalkLive page.
Today in The Journal News • 09.25.09
Sam Borden writes that Andy Pettitte should be the No. 2 starter in the postseason.
Pirates — of course — claim Claggett • 09.24.09
The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed 25-year-old RHP Anthony Claggett off waivers from the Yankees.
Claggett, obtained from Detroit in the Gary Sheffield trade in November 2006, had a 33.75 ERA in 2.2 innings in two appearances for the Yankees. He also was 7-7 with a 3.07 ERA in 34 relief appearances and five starts for Triple-A Scranton.
The Pirates now have Claggett, Ross Ohlendorf, Steven Jackson, Dan McCutchen, Jose Tabata and Jeff Karstens.
There has to be a way they’ll agree to take Kei Igawa.
UPDATE, 9:14 p.m.: As an alert reader pointed out, the Pirates also have RHP Eric Hacker, another former Yankee. So the Pirates have six former Yankees on their 40-man roster. Amazing.
Hairston update: Day-to-day • 09.24.09
This from the Yankees:
Jerry Hairston, Jr. was seen by hand specialist Dr. Melvin Rosenwasser today at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and underwent an MRI. Results of the MRI revealed tendinitis in his left wrist and he received a cortisone injection in the wrist. He is day-to-day.

Boston plays at Kansas City tonight. It’ll be Clay Buchholz against Anthony Lerew. I do this for a living and I try and pay attention, but I have no idea who Anthony Lerew is.
One would suspect the Red Sox are not overly thrilled with the idea of playing a night game in Kansas City and then showing up in NYC around 5 a.m. to play the Yankees that night. To which the Yankees would reply, “Tough noogies, we just made another West Coast trip.”
Meanwhile, doesn’t some HGH maker need to get commercials on ESPN for that game on Sunday?

Thanks to our generous readers • 09.24.09
Early last month we alerted you to a company fundraising project for Autism Awareness that a Yankees fan from Cambridge, Mass., was taking part in. Sachin is a reader of this blog and appealed to folks for assistance.
The hook was the person who raised the most money would get to throw out a first pitch at Fenway Park. Sachin said that if he won, he would wear his Yankees cap.
Well, guess what? He won. Sachin raised more than $1,550 and he’ll be throwing out a first pitch on Sept. 28. Sachin is a little worried what will happen when he puts on his cap, but the important thing is we raised a lot of money for a good cause.
Thanks to those of you who contributed.

The Yankees found some answers as they won two of three in Anaheim. A.J. Burnett was sharp yesterday.
Jerry Hairston Jr. has a potentially serious wrist injury. This notebook also has updates on Jorge Posada, Nick Swisher and A-Rod.

* That’s a Springsteen lyric in honor of the man’s 60th birthday today. Looking forward to the show at Giants Stadium next Wednesday.
That’s it from sunny California. I’m catching a red-eye back to Newark. The Yankees are off tomorrow and I’m planning to take the day off myself. However, there will be a live video chat at 4 p.m.
I will be joined by Sam Borden from the newsroom of The Journal News to discuss the upcoming Red Sox series and whatever else you would like to talk about. As always, there will be prizes.
