There was an old lady, who lived in a shoe

I was talking with CC Sabathia earlier this week and somehow the topic turned to how rookie hazing has changed over the years in the majors. Sabathia was talking about the Batman dress-up the Yankees did with their rookies on the last west coast trip, and so – naturally – I asked if he he had to dress up during his rookie year with the Indians.

“Oh yeah,” he said. “They made me be Grandmama — you know from the old Larry Johnson commercials? That was me. I looked good.

Unfortunately, Sabathia seems to have burned all the easily-accessible photos of his dress-up that might be on the web. But if you need a reminder of just how beautiful Grandmama was, check this out. I’ll bet CC looked lovely.

Just a FYI for later in the day and this weekend: The excellent Josh Thomson will be handling coverage of the series in Tampa. When Pete left for The Globe, I was able to move around a number of things in my schedule to jump on board here but one thing I couldn’t move was the wedding of my best friend from college. I’ll still be blogging in the mornings throughout the weekend, but Josh will be handling the game post updates and recaps (which will go up on here at the same times as usual).

In my own defense, I should say that at least the guy getting married is a Yankees fan. That helps, right?
