Pettitte finishes with sour taste as Yankees wait on opponent

Andy Pettitte cost himself a chance at win No. 15 tonight, allowing five runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings. He walked four and never found a rhythm, but that’s history now.

“It was ugly,” he said. “But it’s over. I’m ready for the postseason, that’s all I can tell you. I’ll forget about this one and just get ready for my next start, whenever it is.”

Here’s Pettitte on what wasn’t exactly the best of Pettitte:

Joe Girardi sat in his office and watched the Twins-Royals game before his club took the field at the Trop. He saw Denard Span’s catch, Michael Cuddyer’s homer and another day (at least) of uncertainty for the Yanks.

Here’s Girardi talking about Pettitte, another good performance by Chad Gaudin and more:

Let’s just hope CC and Andy got that out of their systems.

Joba looks so out of shape…wow

Jorge de la Rosa just left the game with what looked like a groin injury.

What a disaster if it’s serious enough to keep him out of the playoffs.

Question was asked in the previous thread: do you trust Joba to flip the switch for the playoffs and go back to being a dominant reliever?

    No, I don’t.

He’s been struggling a lot with his command lately. In that last start, he couldn’t locate ANY of his pitches. When he was a dominant reliever, he was hitting corners with the fastball to set up the slider off the plate. If he can’t locate, though, people will just wait for the mistake pitch or the walk.

But, if he goes out tomorrow and has a dominant relief appearance, I just might change my mind.

Andy was brutally honest in the post-game……ouch. He’ll be fine next out……

Bronx, I’m horrified for the Rocks, but then I thought, imagine if Jose Contreras is the one who wins it for the Rocks? Wouldn’t there be something pretty sweet there?!

He had a chance to give them a lead, but struck out.

Oh, you meant win it for them with his pitching! Not his bat. Sorry. ;)

Rox announcers said DeLarosa didnt want to come out and that it may only be a minor groin strain. Hope so.

Rob B – I was referring to his pitching but I noticed as I was posting that he was coming up to bat! I would love to see him save this for the Rockies because I feel bad for Contreras. He never really hit his stride, at least not for any extended period of time.

    GO JOSE!!!

Contreas pitching for Rockies,it’s only a matter of time before he implodes. So far he’s good through 5.
He started the season with CWS.

That was a weird inning. Both teams had 1st & 2nd, no outs. Both had GIDP, man to 3rd. Both pitchers intentionally walked a batter to reach the pitcher. Both of whom struck out to end the inning.

Cosmic. If the Rockies pull this out, they can’t be much more even than that.
